CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while using DóTerra’s essential oils into our daily routine.

ANAM CARA SUPPORTS FOR BEREAVED PARENTS CONTINUE... BUT, THEY ARE SEEKING YOUR SUPPORT

We are getting closer to the Women’s Mini Marathon, which returns to the streets of Dublin after a 2 year absence this June Bank Holiday. On Sunday 5th June, over 40,000 women will take part in the largest all-women’s event of its kind in the world, marking the 40th Anniversary of the Mini Marathon. Women of every age and walks of life part, adding to the atmosphere created on the day. Run, walk or crawl, it’s up to you.

A Natural Antibiotic – OREGANO This week we are look dóTerra’s Oregano essential oil which has powerful cleansing properties that support our immune, respiratory, and digestive systems. It has been used for centuries by the ancient Greeks for its taste and health benefits and is often referred to as ‘The Big Gun’ or ‘The Oil of Humility’. Oregano is a natural antibiotic and anti-inflammatory and is most popularly used for immune support. It is one of the Top 10 essential oils in the dóTerra range and is included in both the Family Essentials & Home Essentials Kits from Caroline’s Pod of Positivity. It offers powerful antioxidants and is distilled from the fragrant leaves of the Mediterranean herb. Oregano is known to ease whooping cough, kill ringworm, treat athlete’s foot, candida, fungal infections, inflammation, carpel tunnel pain and arthritis, muscle aches/pain, nasal polyp, warts and so much more. There is amazing healing power to be found in this dóTerra oil and it comes in a 15ml size bottle that contains 285 x drops of pure, neat and unadulterated essential oil.

“Team Anam Cara” will be out on the day and they would love a bigger and better team than ever before. Join the women that have faced unimaginable grief and who will take part in memory of their child that has past. Join the women who are supporting these women. Join the women who simply support Anam Cara. For your fundraising pack, please email info@anamcara.ie. The fundraising efforts of all that take part will ensure our support services continue, free of charge, for all beavered parents. On Tuesday10th May, Anam Cara will hold their Kerry meeting in The Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee @ 7:15pm. All bereaved parents are welcome, regardless of the age of the child or circumstances of death to the meeting, free of charge.

Since Oregano is a ‘spice oil’ or ‘hot oil’ you may find it hard to drink it in water, however you can take it internally by putting one or two drops into a veggie capsule. I would recommend using it in your recipes when cooking and it is a top favourite in our house for any Pasta, Soup or Bolognese dishes. This oil can be applied topically to the skin when blended with a carrier oil or added to a roller bottle with a mixture of other oils from the Family Essential Kit or Home Essential Kit. It can also be added to a cold-water diffuser to allow it to get airborne in your home, office, classroom or work space. Oregano is one of the essential oils I will be using over the next few weeks and I will have it pre-blended in a roller bottle with OnGuard, Lemon, Lavender, Melaleuca and Frankincense to support the Immune System against seasonal threats. These oils mentioned are also part of the Family Essential and Home Essential Kits. As a family we always make sure to carry our Roller Bottles in the school bags, handbag, golf bag, and we apply them behind the ears, the back of the neck and on to our wrist points. If you wear a face mask out and about or in your place of work you can apply the oils to the inside of the face mask.

BALLYBUNION BEACH NAMED AMONG 40 OF THE BEST IN EUROPE

Registration is not required to attend the meeting on Tuesday 10th May, just turn up. Anam Cara would welcome any bereaved parent in the Kerry area and surrounds to attend. For further information on this event and all other supports Anam Cara offer, their information line is 085 2888 888 or by email info@anamcara.ie

The Guardian has published an article naming 40 of the best beaches in Europe and two Irish locations have made the cut. These were Ballybunion in Kerry and Glassilaun in Galway, with both earning praise for their scenery, as well as their nearby restaurant options. The Guardian, in particular, singled out Ballybunion’s “stunning cliff walk” and “deserted Nuns beach”. Quote from The Guardian online atricle: “This beloved North Kerry resort town has four beautiful beaches. They have been popular since Victorian times and still draw a huge crowd on sunny summer days. But it’s easy to escape the throng by climbing the path to the stunning cliff walk above. Those brave enough can search for the rope to guide them down to the deserted Nuns beach, with its caves and Virgin Rock sea arch.”

All of these oils can be purchased from our Pod separately or as a Kit to support you and your home space / work space. DóTerra now have a plant in Blarney Business Park in County Cork which is the first manufacturing facility outside of the United States and serves as our European Headquarters. DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And we can take these oils internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. Feel free to ring me on the number below for more information or to request a sample. Minister Foley welcomes announcement of €50 Million Scheme for Rural Village Waste Water Improvements

Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley welcomes the announcement of a new €50 million scheme targeting the waste water collection and treatment needs of villages and settlements without access to public waste water services. The announcement follows the completion of a review by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, of villages and settlements that do not have access to public waste water infrastructure. This work included consultation with stakeholders and a detailed survey completed by local authorities of villages and settlements in their area not serviced by waste water collection and treatment systems. The first phase of funding announced today will focus on areas of most need based on housing and environmental criteria. Local authorities are now being invited to submit proposals for consideration for funding under this new measure. Minister Foley said: “Improving the quality of waste water treatment and collection is imperative to support, cultivate and progress the development of sustainable rural communities. I welcome this funding which will provide a vital boost to local economies and enrich rural villages with sustainable housing projects.” The scheme will now open to Local Authorities for application and will stay open for applications until September 15th.

LAUNCH OF ‘THE CUBBIE’ AT LISTOWEL LIBRARY

Listowel Library has added a Sensory Hub to its range of services. ‘The Cubbie @ Listowel Library’ was launched by Cllr. Jimmy Moloney, Cathaoirleach, Kerry County Council at Listowel Library on Friday, 29 April and he complimented the range of services that are now available across Kerry libraries and urged the people of North Kerry to come in and use this new sensory resource. ‘The Cubbie’ is a self-contained unit that will offer a user experience for children, teens and adults with sensory impairments (ASD, Dementia, ADHD, Dyspraxia and general anxiety) and can help ease anxiety in a safe and private environment. Its user-friendly software can generate effects like sound, visuals, coloured lights and can be adapted to the individualised sensory needs of each user. Settings can be saved and used during future visits to Listowel Library or indeed any of the other Cubbie locations across Ireland. ‘The Cubbie’ will offer increased opportunity for more inclusive access to library services, and it will support Listowel in its objective to achieving accreditation from AsIam (www.asiam.ie) as an Autism Friendly Town. ‘Library staff look forward to engaging with the local community – parents, teachers, carers, Special Needs Assistants and the Listowel Autism Friendly Town Committee to promote the benefits and developmental value of ‘The Cubbie’,’ said County Librarian, Tommy O’Connor.

SIX HUNDRED ATTEND KERRY JOBS FAIR: A SUPER SUCCESS

Over 600 people met with 30 employers at the Kerry Jobs Fair at The Rose Hotel Tralee on Monday 25th April. The event was organized by NEWKD in collaboration with the Kerry Chambers and the response from both employers and jobseekers was very positive. According to event co-coordinator Lisa O Flaherty who works with NEWKDS Moving on Employment Programme “We are delighted with the response to the day. There was a lovely relaxed and informal atmosphere and people really appreciated the opportunity to talk face to face with employers.” “It can be difficult to make a direct connection with an employer so we were happy to be able to remove some of the barriers. It was also great to see the response to the ‘Careers Clinic’ where local organisations supported people with their CVS and provided information on education and progression opportunities”. Jennifer O Sullivan from the NEWKD SICAP programme who offers specific supports for young people who are unemployed said she “was delighted that the event attracted such a diverse group of people from all over Kerry. Our work is very much about equality so it was great to have such an inclusive event.” “We organised buses and translators for Ukrainian refugees and it was great to be able to connect them with employers”. NEWKD are part of the Kerry Community Response Forum facilitated by Kerry County Council which is supporting Ukrainian Refugees in Kerry and employment is a key part of this as they are anxious to work and work is a key part of integrating into society”.

‘Anyone is welcome to use this service and it can be used as a safe space for anyone seeking a calming environment in which to relax and refocus. It is also suitable for meditation, mindfulness and promoting well-being,’ he said.

Breda Flaherty, the Organisation Development Manager with Dairymaster said “I’ve been to a lot of fairs in my time but this was the best set up really super. There was a great flow of people all day who were genuinely interested in the positions. We got a substantial amount of very good applications. We also got to meet a lot people from the Ukrainian community and hopefully we can give them employment too”.

Provision of ‘The Cubbie’ was facilitated by Dormant Accounts Funding, as part of a Government of Ireland initiative from the Dept. Of Community and Rural Development to provide Library Supports for Marginalised, Socially Excluded and Disadvantaged Communities. Kerry County Council provided matched funding.

Lisa Fingleton also from NEWKD/Moving on Programme explained that there are still opportunities for those who couldn’t attend on the day “Employers were offering hundreds of jobs across a range of sectors including technology, office admin, accounts, hospitality, food production and tourism.”

‘The Cubbie’ is designed and manufactured in Ireland and won a Microsoft for Start-ups Diversity in Technology Award for Disability Inclusion in 2020. It is designed to the Wheelchair Association of Ireland specification and can be used by all people regardless of age, size or ability.

“Employers were also interviewed and filmed about their ongoing recruitment needs and this footage will be available in a webinar over the coming weeks therefore If you missed the event on Monday NEWKD will have an online version available soon. Just follow NEWKD facebook page or Moving on @movingonkerry on Instagram, to see updates. Also there will be another event online event looking at employment rights in Ireland, more details will be released on our social media in the coming weeks”.

The current opening hours at Listowel Library are 10.00am to 8.00pm each Tuesday and 10.00am to 5.00pm on Monday and Wednesday through to Saturday. SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well Everyone dreams about achieving their Weight loss and Wellness goals (and staying there) but how many of us actually put the time into planning how we will reach and maintain our overall target. Preparation, Planning and Focus are essential in staying motivated for your long term Weight loss and Wellness journey. Many of us spend a great deal of our time planning the logistics of family life, such as budgeting, child care, pick ups, drop offs, work, shopping, family meals and paying bills. But when it comes to focusing on our own health and wellbeing we somehow just run out of time and very often we end up at the bottom of the “To do List “ MAKE TIME FOR YOU!

BOOK OF THE WEEK in association with

Woulfes Bookshop Listowel’s Only Dedicated Bookshop

Church Street, Listowel - T: 068 21021

www.woulfesbookshop.ie / follow us on facebook

15 x 7 = 105 minutes This week we want you to think about how you can set aside 15 minutes out of each day over the week just for YOU and how you can use that 15 minutes to help you achieve your Weight loss and Wellness goals. By doing this you are actually creating 105 minutes over all just for YOU in your week. There are a lot of “ you’s “ in what we just said there , but after all YOU are important. What part of the day could you set aside those 15 minutes for yourself this week? Morning? Lunchtime? Kids in bed at night? It is also important to think in advance what you want to do with that 15 minutes and how that 15 minutes each day can help you achieve your goals. Things you can do in 15 minutes * Write your shopping list. * Keep a diary of what you eat and drink * Reorganise the kitchen press (Tempting snacks out of sight) * Plan your meals for the following day. * Choose a new recipe to try * Get out for a short walk rather than sitting on the couch.

FREEZING ORDER A True Story of Russian Money Laundering, State-Sponsored Murder, and Surviving Vladimir Putin’s Wrath By Bill Browder

Following his explosive international bestseller Red Notice, Bill Browder returns with another gripping thriller chronicling how he became Vladimir Putin’s number one enemy by exposing Putin’s campaign to steal and launder hundreds of billions of dollars and kill anyone who stands in his way. When Bill Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail, Browder made it his life’s mission to go after his killers and make sure they faced justice. The first step of that mission was to uncover who was behind the $230 million tax refund scheme that Magnitsky was killed over.

YOU ARE WORTH IT!

As Browder and his team tracked the money as it flowed out of Russia through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas, they were shocked to discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was a beneficiary of the crime.

Know your worth: Self-care is important to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself as it produces positive feelings and boosts your confidence and self-esteem. Also, self-care is necessary to remind yourself and others that you and your needs are important too. By looking after your own health and well being you are actually filling up your own cup, as the saying goes “ you can’t pour from an empty cup “

As law enforcement agencies began freezing the money, Putin retaliated. He and his cronies set up honey traps, hired process servers to chase Browder through cities, murdered more of his Russian allies, and enlisted some of the top lawyers and politicians in America to bring him down. Putin will stop at nothing to protect his money.

Just before we finish up, 3 things to keep in mind

As Freezing Order reveals, it was Browder’s campaign to expose Putin’s corruption that prompted Russia’s intervention in the 2016 US presidential election.

1. Make the time as nobody else may make it for you. 2. Think about what you want to achieve for your overall wellness. 3.Think about what and how you can do it in that 15 minutes. Give us a call on Sandra 087 6718377 Rita 087 1012174 Until next week Sandra and Rita

At once a financial caper, an international adventure and a passionate plea for justice, Freezing Order is a timely and stirring morality tale about how one man can take on one of the most ruthless villains in the world.

Teddy Hennessy RIP: In the last two weeks we have lost two people who made huge contributions to our Club. Firstly it was Gerald McKenna and on Wednesday evening last came the news of the death of our esteemed President, Teddy Hennessy. Teddy was a member of a family who made a huge contribution to hurling in Ballyduff with all seven brothers winning County Senior Hurling Championships with Ballyduff. Their father, the late Mike Joe, was the man who purchased the Sportsfield on behalf of the Club in the early fifties and which is now a focal point for so many of our young people. Teddy won Championships in the breakthrough year in 1955 and subsequently in 1957, 1959 (captain) 1961 and 1965 . He was also a member of 1961 Kerry All Ireland Junior Hurling Championship winning team which was captained by his brother Michael (RIP). He was predeceased by his wife Nellie ,son Dara, brothers Michael and Patrick, sister Kathleen. Teddy is survived by his sons Michael and Toddy, daughters Kathleen and Julie, sisters Mary and Ann, Brothers Thomas, Brendan, Tony and Gussie, grandchildren and a large circle of friends. Hard luck to this team also, as luck wasn’t with them in the Feile qualifying sessions they lost out to Churchill in the opening game and had a good win over John Mitchels but Churchill went through on the day. A speedy recovery to Churchill midfielder Aaron Harty who suffered an arm break in the opening game. County Senior League Div 2 – Round 5 Emmets 0-17 Glenbeigh Glencar 3-06, a hard fought result in Glenbeigh last weekend, the team trailed by 4 points in the opening quarter but battled hard and went in at the break up 2-02 to 0-10. The home side brought plenty physicality to the third quarter but this young Emmets team played well together and found their feet opening up a four point lead, Glenbeigh Glencar fought to the end and seized an opportune goal which led to a ferocious last ten minutes with Emmets coming out on top by two points. It was great to see Niall Collins back in action in the final quarter and we wish him well in his recovery, all in all, it was a massive team performance and a great result. The boys have now earned a good rest as county league pauses until 14/15th May. BEALE GAA

Beale seniors had the upperhand on Duagh on Saturday evening in the County League, Division 4. Both teams served up a good, competitive game but we always had the edge in play and on the scoreboard. While we seemed to be in charge throughout, we lived dangerously towards the end. 5 points up with 5 minutes to go against 14-man Duagh, it looked like we were well on our way. However, complacency set in and we were slow to move the ball out of defence. Duagh duly punished, grabbed the opportunity, turned the ball over and brought us back to a goal. They then converted from the penalty spot to draw level. It looked like the match was drawn but luckily, we stormed up the field to pop over a delightful, winning point. We emerged victorious by the narrowest of

28

margins, 1-10 to 1-09. These two valuable points put us in sixth position on the table. We now look forward to hosting Knocknagoshel in mid-May.

FINUGE GAA

U15s: Our U15s had a busy weekend with Féile action and what a weekend it turned out to be. It started off Saturday morning with a qualifier game against Ardfert. The game was in Finuge and our lads came out on top 1-05 to 0-03. This put them into the semifinals which were held in Currans on Monday. Our neighbours St Senans provided the opposition and our lads proved the stronger on the scoreline 5-04 to 2-05. This set the scene for the final which was played soon after. Na Gaeil were the opposition and after a hard fought battle against the Tralee side our boys came out on top 1-08 to 0-07!! Gavin O’Keeffe collected the silverware on behalf of the team on what was a very special day for this hard-working squad. We done to all the boys and the management team. Everybody has worked really hard all year and this is a very deserved reward for all the work put in. Finuge now go forward to represent

Kerry at division 3 level in the All-Ireland series. The U15s were also in county league action last week when they had a comprehensive win over Dromid/Waterville. This was the final group of the group stage. They now go into a promotional semifinal playoff with Currow - details to be announced. U13s; The lads had a rest week with the final round of county league action coming up on Sunday against Kenmare. However the boys have won all their games and are clear leaders in the group going into the final round which means they are county league champions before another ball is kicked! Promotion to division is secured for phase II - well done to everybody involved!! SENIORS; Our Seniors had a road trip last weekend with an away trip to St Michaels/Foilmore. Unfortunately the team has been depleted through injury and various commitments and their hosts proved much too strong on the day. Next up is Asdee week after this with the break coming in time to help aid recovery. U11s; A home game last week with Ardfert provided lots of action for everyone. Each club had two teams so full time football for everybody. Both teams played very well and have showed great improvement over the past four weeks. This weeks game is with St Pats of Blennerville this Thursday. U9 & U7s; Training continues on Wednesday evenings. CÚL CAMP; Booking is open for the Finuge Cúl Camp. This is open to anybody within the club or outside and a great week’s fun is always guaranteed! CLUB FUNDRAISER: Important notice - Finuge GAA have decided to extend the draw date for the car raffle fundraiser. The new draw date is the 1st of October. Have you bought your tickets yet? KERRY TEAMS; Well done to the Kerry hurlers on a comprehensive win against Meath last weekend and also against Carlow the previous weekend. The boys are really on a roll and hopefully can keep up the momentum. Best of luck to Kerry Senior footballers and U20’s this weekend as they take on Cork and Tyrone respectively.

Senior Football County League Division 4 Result: Fossa 1-09 -v- Tarbert 0-14 Our Seniors returned to winning ways with an impressive away win against Fossa on Saturday evening 30th April. After a sluggish start from our boys, Fossa had raced into an early 1-03 to 0-00 lead inside the opening 10 minutes of the game. The away supporters were somewhat worried at this stage, but panic did not set in on the field. Mark Buckley registered Tarbert’s first score with a point from play in the 12th minute to settle the Tarbert players. Gerald O Sullivan then kicked 3 more points (1 from play, 2 from frees) to close the gap to Fossa to just two points halfway through the first half. Tarbert’s backs were now beginning to win the 50/50 battles and both Kevin and Shane Enright began to dominate in the full back and centre back lines. Fossa were awarded a free on 17 minutes to extend their lead but this was to be their last score of the first half and Tarbert dominated the remainder of the opening half. Three more placed balls from Gerald O Sullivan and a point each from play from Mark Buckley and Michael Heaphy meant Tarbert went in at half time with a 2 point lead, Fossa 1-04, Tarbert 0-09. On the resumption of play, Tarbert and Fossa immediately exchanged scores with Gerald O Sullivan adding another from play for the away side. Andrew Doherty registered his first score of the game in the 5th minute of the 2nd half to extend Tarbert’s lead to 0-11 to 1-05. Tarbert were in control in most areas of the field and held possession for long periods of play as the home side struggled to make inroads into Tarbert’s lead. Gerald O Sullivan kicked another point from a mark inside the 45-yard line on the 15th minute to extend Tarbert’s lead to three points with 15 minutes remaining. However, the home side rallied, and Fossa reduced the deficit to 1 point with scores in the 19th, 25th & 29th minute, making it a tense finish to the match. O Sullivan took on the Fossa defence and kicked a beauty of a point on 31 minutes as Tarbert again extended their lead to two points, 1-08 to 0-13 with time almost up. Three minutes into injury time Fossa reduced the lead to the minimum with a point from play as the home team pushed for parity. However, an excellent attack from the Tarbert boys was finished with a left footed shot and point from the hard-working Michael Heaphy to ensure Tarbert finished the game with the win and a valuable 2 county league points on the night. After a slow start Tarbert outscored their opponents 14 points to 6 points from the 10th minute of the game. Tarbert were solid again in the full back line with Kevin Enright never putting a foot wrong throughout the game and was well assisted by Danny Wren and Daniel O Connor at corner back. Shane Enright marshalled the half back line and drove out of defence on numerous occasions and used his experience to control the game to great effect. On either side of the number 6, Gavin Breen and Ben Sheehan were very good in defence and contributed well to the attack also. Michael Heaphy kicked two outstanding scores from midfield and with Shea McDonnell winning the aerial duals it meant Tarbert had a solid footing in midfield throughout the game. Up front Mark Buckley kicked 2 fine points from the no 11 position and Andrew Doherty also scored a point from play. However, the outstanding performance from Gerald O Sullivan proved to be the difference on the night. Gerald finished with a personal tally of 9 points and was instrumental in most of Tarbert’s attacks throughout the match. This was a very good performance by the Tarbert team and an excellent result as it keeps our boys very much in the hunt for promotion up to Division 3. Well done to players and management. Team: 1. John Kennedy, 2. Danny Wren, 3. Kevin Enright, 4. Daniel O Connor, 5. Gavin Breen, 6. Shane Enright, 7. Ben Sheehan, 8. Michael Heaphy (0-02), 9. Shea McDonnell, 10. Eamon Callaghan, 11.
