Melaleuca has purifying properties and can be used to cleanse and purify the skin and nails. It also helps to support a healthy complexion due to its antiviral and antifungal properties. It reduces warts and veruca’s and by taking one drop of Melaleuca in a veggie capsule three times daily will eliminate thrush and boost gut health. Many of our Pod members diffuse Melaleuca in their homes, offices, workspaces, classrooms and businesses to purify the environment, release negative energies and allow them to step back on their path to happiness. DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And we can take these oils internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. BASKETBALL SUCCESS AT PRES LISTOWEL

Our Junior basketball team made up of students from 2nd year have brought great excitement and joy to Presentation Listowel in recent weeks. This all began prior to the easter holidays after winning their All-Ireland playoff against Scoil Phobail Beanntraí ensuring a place in the All-Ireland quarter finals. The Quarter finals took place on Thursday 28th April in Oblate Hall in Dublin where the opponent was Taylor’s Hill, Galway. This game was an excellent performance by our Pres girls who lead and controlled the game from start to finish. This gave Pres 42-33 win in the end. Later in the afternoon we met a strong Mount Anville side from Dublin. Despite having the lead at the end of the first quarter, we trailed by 8 at half time. A strong third quarter by our girls gave us a slender 2 point lead heading into the final quarter. This was a tense affair but our girls showed huge determination and resilience to maintain their lead to win 40-36 in a pulsating finale. The prize was a shot at All Ireland glory against Coachford College. The team made the trip to the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght last Thursday to contest their All-Ireland final against Coachford College. Despite holding the lead for much of the game, a strong finish by Coachford who got some vital scores was enough to see them over the line. An agonizing 36-33 loss in a titanic battle. An incredible achievement by this group of girls to finish runners up in Ireland on what was a remarkably successful year. It was incredibly heartening to see these girls continuing the strong tradition of basketball at Pres Lsitowel and everyone in our school community is enormously proud and we have no doubt they will be back stronger next year. A special mention to all our supporters on the day who travelled, made up of staff, students, and parents. The noise and colour on the day was incredible and a huge motivation to the team.

BALLYBUNION TIDY TOWNS ANNUAL CLEAN UP

Each year Kerry County Council sponsors an April countywide clean up. Tidy Towns, like other groups & individuals, is always good to participate. This year the focus was on the Barrow Road and along the roadways of the Easter Half Marathon. Certainly it was well needed with all the bags of rubbish collected below. With some of Ballybunion’s small group of members retiring after this summer, new members are very welcome. If you are interested call Noel Nash, Chairman (089)412-8600. We really need the younger generations to start getting involved in town events and help caring for our community.

KERRY HOSPICE NEEDS CHRISTMAS CARD ARTISTS

With just 230 days left to Christmas, members of the Kerry Hospice Foundation are busy planning and preparing for the launch of their eagerly awaited, and much in demand, creative Christmas cards. This year they are enlisting the help of the Kerry public to come up with creative designs for the unique collection of cards which are a major strand of funding for the Kerry Hospice Foundation. “Kerry Hospice Foundation is looking for your ideas for our annual Christmas Card pack. All artists from around the county are invited to submit paintings of Christmas and we are open to your interpretation of what Christmas is for you. As a guideline we might suggest something on the lines of winter country scenes, busy street scenes, some famous landmarks from around the county all with a Christmas theme,” said Ursula O’Connell from the Kerry Hospice Foundation. The Christmas card committee would also encourage artists of all abilities and age to create some nativity scenes to embrace the message of Christmas and some playful scenes to include children, the heart of Christmas for all families. The card will measure 19x14cms and can be landscape or portrait. “The Christmas Cards are very popular with our supporters and a huge part of our fundraising campaign each year. This is an ideal forum for the successful artists to showcase their creative work. For many years we have been fortunate, honoured and delighted to have the incredible support of Kerry Group who has generously sponsored the cards. This has enables us to produce a top quality product that wings its way all over the World at Christmas time.” Kerry Hospice Foundation is asking artists and the public to submit their work by June 24th. Paintings can be dropped into or posted to the Suaimhneas Centre at the Palliative Care Unit, Kerry General Hospital, Tralee. All work will be returned in due course. For any further details please contact Ursula O’Connell, Christmas Card Committee at 087 7450126.

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well We hope you are safe and well. I’m sure you are familiar with the saying “If the cap fits wear it “. Well, that’s all fine and dandy if we were only talking about a cap,. But what we want to think about this week is how can our clothes in our wardrobes help to keep our motivation strong and our weight loss and wellness journey going.

in association with

Change of Season This is now the time of the year, and more so with the change of season, we are having to maybe sort out our wardrobe and change around the clothes that are in there at the moment. For example, are there clothes in there that are too heavy, too dark, too wintery, too BIG, too SMALL or maybe just not quite fitting you right yet etc? Think about it...... How often do we look in the wardrobe and say “I’ve nothing to wear” Now that normality has resumed and we are all making plans to go places. Whether its meeting friends and having a meal out or maybe a night away , we all want to look and feel our best. Its great to now have an opportunity to get dressed up and we all have the clothes in the wardrobe that we haven’t had a chance to wear in a while. Carrot V Stick Clothes are something that can help us to keep our weight loss going. A bit like the carrot and the stick. The CARROT being to get DOWN to a smaller size, and the STICK being not having to go UP to the bigger size. We are all guilty of hoarding and holding on to stuff, so take out the clothes that are too big for you and get rid of them, otherwise you will only be thinking sure I will always find something to fit if I gain weight again, so our advice would be to get RID, RID, RID The type of clothes you wear can help or hinder your Weight loss .It’s usually your clothes that’ll be the first thing you notice as you start losing or gaining weight. Avoid wearing elasticated waistbands ALL of the time, because they grow with you while an item of clothing with a waistband will always give you the pinch or the credit when it’s due. Next, take a look at what’s not quite fitting right yet, and keep those where you will see them. That would remind you every time you open the wardrobe of what you want to achieve. The most important thing is that we should feel good in the clothes that we “ want “ to wear, and not just “ have “ to wear something because we have no choice and it will have to do.. Decluttering the wardrobe is like de-cluttering the mind, and that has to be good for our overall well being too. Think Ahead Upcoming events can be a great motivator for us to keep us inspired on how we want to look and feel when we are dressed up. After all when you feel good about yourself on the inside,no matter what you wear it will sparkle through on the outside. So, now we hope you will be busy sorting out the wardrobe over the week, but think about the satisfaction you will get every time you open the doors, knowing that you can put your hand on anything and every thing you love. We at San Rita Wellness would often encourage our members to look beyond the number on the scales and focus on their changing body shape. Clothes are really a great indicator of the progress our members are seeing and feeling and also are a great motivator. We will leave you with a thought .... “ Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels “ For extra support and for weekly accountability check us out on Facebook San Rita Wellness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “In Person Meetings”, “At Home Service” or our “One to One Service“ NB - Our weekly “In Person Meetings” take place in Listowel Community Centre every Wednesday and in The Ballybunion Health and Leisure Centre every Thursday. THE FLAMES

The electrifying historical debut about four muses and the artist who shocked Vienna

By Sophie Haydock

Vienna at the dawn of the 20th century. An opulent, extravagant city teeming with art, music and radical ideas. A place where the social elite attend glamorous balls in the city’s palaces whilst young intellectuals decry the empire across the tables of crowded cafes. It is a city where anything seems possible - if you are a man. Edith and Adele are sisters, the daughters of a wealthy bourgeois industrialist. They are expected to follow the rules, to marry well, and produce children. Gertrude is in thrall to her flamboyant older brother. Marked by a traumatic childhood, she envies the freedom he so readily commands. Vally was born into poverty but is making her way in the world as a model for the eminent artist Gustav Klimt. None of these women is quite what they seem. Fierce, passionate and determined, they want to defy convention and forge their own path. But their lives are set on a collision course when they become entangled with the controversial young artist Egon Schiele whose work - and private life - are sending shockwaves through Vienna’s elite. All it will take is a single act of betrayal to change everything for them all. Because just as a flame has the power to mesmerize, it can also destroy everything in its path...

Some of the projects on display from Presentation Listowel included, “Biodegradable Plastics” and “The Chemical reactions that occur in the brain when someone experiences Déjà vu”. Congratulations to 1st Year Science student Cara Leahy who’s project on Biodegradable Plastics won Best Project Runner Up. Well done to Maggie Mahony and Aoibh Lennon 2nd Year whose project on “The chemical reaction that occur in the brain when someone experiences Déjà vu” was also highly commended by the judges. Commenting on the success of her student’s projects, Science teacher Ms Jessica Keane said: “We are very proud of Cara, Maggie and Aoibh, this was a fantastic achievement for the girls and the Science Department. The SciFest competition allows students to develop their study of science, technology, engineering and maths, outside of the classroom and apply it to everyday life. All of the students have worked very hard on their projects and should be very proud of their achievements.” Pictured (left): Cara Leahy 1st year Best Project runner up with Science Teacher Ms Jessica Keane Pictured (right): Aoibh Lennon, Maggie Mahony and Science Teacher Ms Jessica Keane

First up was The Yellow Team who played Inter Kenmare A in The John Dowling Plate Final. While we dominated for large parts we couldn’t seem to convert the many chances we were creating. Overall it was a great display by The Boys and one they can be proud of. Kenmare were 6-2 winners on the day. Our goals were scored by Joe Joy and Cathal Dennehy. The squad on the day was Hugo Kissane, Joe Joy, Adam Shanahan, Bobby Ball, Henry Kissane, Cathal Dennehy, Daragh Gilbert, Luke Walsh, Simon Russell, Gearóid Lenihan. It was a great season for the Boys and a massive well done to their Coach, Jerry Shanahan who has been fantastic since joining the coaching set up at The Club. The Green Team played Tralee Dynamos A in The John Dowling Shield Final. The Boys were in control for lots of the game . This was great game between two good sides. We were 4-2 winners, with the goals coming from Mason Sheehy Elston(3) and Liam Dennehy. This was a great way to finish the season for these Boys and their Coaches Derek and PJ who have done trojan work all season. Congrats to all involved. Squad: Diarmuid Lyons, Ethan Stack, Myles Kearney, Liam Dennehy, Mason Sheehy Elston, Jack Cronin, Evan Rodgers, Nathan Roche, Adam Kearney, Shane Dunlea, Jerry Brick, Evan Dore, Dean O’Connor It was a great day and a fantastic experience for all involved. We had a record number of players at Under 11’s this season (52 in total) and to the two teams who didn’t make it to Sunday’s Finals, we are equally as proud of ye. Ye are all part of The Listowel Celtic Family.

LISTOWEL ATHLETIC CLUB

Kerry T&F Championships

The Juvenile outdoor season kicked off in sunny conditions last Saturday in An Riocht with the Kerry T&F Championship. For many our young athletes, it was their first time in a competitive environment and for our more experienced group, back to the competitive environment that we missed for so long. The club was represented by over 70 athletes from 8 years old to 19 years old. Pre covid, our club had won 4 county club championships in a row and with the performance from the weekend, Lios Tuathail AC is still one of the top clubs in Kerry with real quality performances across all age groups and disciplines. We still await for final team scores to come through. Quality and super performances was observed across all age groups and disciplines: 56 individual podium finishes, 9 team Relay podium finishes, 41 gold medals won by club athletes, 35 Silver medals and 16 Bronze medallist and a Championship best record in the Junior Long Jump. What a haul of medals from a talented bunch of athletes. Well done to everyone who took part whatever the result, it’s about doing your best on the day and we can’t be more proud of all athletes efforts. A huge thanks to all the parents too for making it such a fun weekend. A big thanks to all the coaches within the club who in any small part fed into the success over the weekend. Your unbelievable commitment and dedication has helped our athletes achieve the best that they can be. A big fixture in the club calendar is the primary school athletics for North Kerry schools which will be held in Listowel Emmets field on Monday 16th May at 6pm. Open to primary school kids and do not have to be a member of a athletic club so all are welcome. Fixtures 10/05 12/05 16/05 21/05

Beale forward, Cillian Courtney, lined out for Kerry in the New York league last weekend. Well known for foraging goals, Cillian scored 1-01, helping his team to win the game. Cillian wore the Beale colours at all levels from under-age to seniors. Born in New York, he moved back to the States a few months ago. We look forward to following Cillian’s GAA exploits in the Big Apple. The whole community was saddened and shocked in recent weeks by the sudden and untimely death of Tom Mulvihill. Tom was involved behind the scenes in Beale GAA down through the years. A passionate photographer and all things Ballybunion, Tom volunteered his photographic and graphic designer skills to the club, designing posters and other promotional material. We are especially grateful for the many hours he spent on our history book, ‘Sand in Our Boots’, capturing historic memories. He worked closely with his brothers, Paudie, co-author, and Eamonn, graphic designer on our project.. Together with his mam, Danna, he always promoted our many club events, selling tickets and displaying posters in Danna’s shop for our pantomimes and annual Christmas events. His brother, Paudie, is an influential member of Beale GAA executive committee and sister-in-law, Finola, plays an active part behind the scenes. The football tradition continues with his nephews, Neilus and Rory, on the senior team, and niece, Orla, who stars with Beale Ladies. Beale GAA Club extends sincere sympathies to Tom’s family.
