CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY

ALL ROADS LEAD TO NORTH KERRY FOR BALLYDUFF VINTAGE CLUB’S CHARITY TRACTOR RUN

Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while using DóTerra’s essential oils into our daily routine. Over the past three years I have been using DóTerras essential oils and have supported many people and their families on their essential oil journey in counties Kerry, Limerick and Cork. I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood and this week I want to share with you 3 x of dóTerra’s oils that can help you with seasonal threats. Achoo! Achoo! Achoo! – Are You Allergic to Pollen? We are in the heights of the pollen season, and so many of you are sneezing and coughing, suffering with sore throats, nasal congestion, a runny nose or facial pain, experiencing itchy, red or watery eyes and even have pain around your temples and forehead. Well suffer no more because when you diffuse, use and apply dóTerra’s Lemon, Lavender & Peppermint essential oils from our Pod, these will support you with your allergies, particularly in Pollen season. Diffusing two to three drops of DóTerra’s Lavender, Peppermint & Lemon in your cold-water diffuser consistently throughout the day in your home, work or office environment will ease and soothe seasonal discomforts. You can also add one drop of each to a small amount of water and drink it morning and evening. It’s also advisable to apply the oils to your wrist points, behind the ears, on to the back of the neck and rub them into your skin. Roller Bottles are a fantastic way to apply the oils to the body and these can also be purchased from my Pod of Positivity. When you combine all three of these oils above they work together in creating natural anti-histamine for your body, thus helping you when pollen is high and your body is under threat. These oils alleviate a variety of issues and improve our overall quality of life and each of the oils on their own has many uses in supporting us in both body and mind! Lemon – detoxes the body, may help regulate blood pressure and cholesterol. A great oil to ease sore throats and prevent cold sores. It also adds flavour to your baking dishes. Lavender – a hero oil in our home, this is the soothing oil for both our physical and our emotions. Great to aid sleep, ease anxiety, soothes irritated skin, relive baby teething pain and provides a sense of calm and relief when stresses are high. Peppermint – Master Brody’s favourite oil to increase energy and focus. It helps soothes head tension, relives sinusitis and allergies, invigorates the lungs and opens the airways. I love to add a drop of Peppermint to my morning coffee. All of these oils can be purchased by contacting me on the number below. They can be bought separately or as part of a Trio Kit, the Family Essentials Kit or the Home Essentials Kit to support you, your family while your home space / work space. DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And we can take these oils internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. Feel free to ring me on the number below for more information or to make an appointment. For extra positivity and well-being, check out my Facebook page – Caroline’s Pod of Positivity where we have information and videos on all of DóTerra’s essential oils. Munster Technological University has secured €3 million in funding to provide over 1000 places under the Government’s Springboard+ and Human Capital Initiatives for the academic year 2022/2023. In total, MTU is offering 34 Springboard+ courses as part of its suite of part-time offerings. These funded places are spread across a broad range of disciplines including Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing, Data Science and Analytics, Culinary Arts and Culinary Skills, Pharmacy Management and Circular Economy, as well as Sustainable Agriculture, Automation & Control, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Practices & Systems, Information Design & Development, Building Information Modelling (BIM) with Revit, Leadership and Transformational Change and Automotive Operations. MTU worked closely with the South West Regional Skills Forum in developing and prioritising its Springboard+ offerings in line with the needs of industry and business in the region. Michael Loftus, Vice President for External Affairs at MTU stated “MTU is fully committed to the development of graduates who have the skills, positive attitude and overall ability required by industry. While this focus has always been centrally important to our work, it is now more vital than ever that we work to support industry at a time of unprecedented challenge associated with geopolitical events and the aftermath of COVID-19. This funding will enable us to reskill and upskill those seeking employment, as well as those who are currently in employment, at their time of greatest need. MTU is committed to industry engagement and our partnerships with enterprises and representative groups, such as the South-West Regional Skills Forum, ensure that our courses are current and relevant. The work-based learning approach which has been designed into these courses will maximise the employability of the graduates.” Dr Brendan O’Donnell, Vice President for Academic Affairs at MTU, said: “The Springboard+ initiative is the cornerstone of the lifelong learning offering at MTU. These courses are unique in that they offer both an opportunity to re-skill and/or up-skill, leading to qualifications that are in demand by employers. We work very closely with industry to understand their skills needs and how sectors are future-proofing the skills of people already in employment, particularly in roles that may be impacted by digitalisation. Our Springboard + offerings are direct responses to these collaborative partnerships. Our range of applied and blended programmes offer students flexibility around how they engage with the programme, which is invaluable when balancing study with a busy work schedule”. Springboard+ courses are free for people who are unemployed, those who were previously self-employed and returners to the workforce. Courses at NFQ Level 6 are also free for those in employment. For employed participants on courses NFQ level 7 – 9, 90% of the course fee is government-funded, with participants required to contribute just the balancing 10%. Staff will be available over the coming weeks to advise potential students looking at a return to education. Further information on course availability, eligibility criteria and the application process is available by visiting www.springboardcourses.ie. Domnick Walsh 087 2672033 www.dwalshphoto.ie

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well In a sense we are still aware and being of the fact that Covid is still out there, but on the other hand we have to stay positive as thinking and feeling negative won’t help the situation or change the outcome. Thinking and feeling more positive is far more beneficial to our overall wellbeing and zest for life. Positivity vs Negativity

BOOK OF THE WEEK in association with

Woulfes Bookshop Listowel’s Only Dedicated Bookshop

So let’s get more positive It is well proven that “What we think, determines how we feel and how we feel determines what we do” so it does really all start with our thoughts. Think back over the past week and answer these questions yourself: What went well for you this past week ? (Food choices, Activity, Weekend) How did you make that happen ? (Planned ahead, Made the time) How did that help you ? (Felt in control, More organized,) How did it make you feel ? (Happy, Focused, In Control) Will you continue doing the same for this week? What are your Challenges? We all face a challenging time, whether it’s night time or the weekends etc. Think about your own challenges that you came up against recently on your Weightloss and Wellness journey. What were the factors leading up to it? ( Weather, Feeling fed up etc) How did that leave you feeling? (Sad, Stressed) How did you react? (Eat, Eat and Eat) How did you feel then? (Out of Control, Off Track) If you were faced with the same challenges again this week How could you react differently? Would it make a difference to how you feel ? When you find yourself struggling it’s important to think positive to keep yourself inspired and to keep trying. For example, You could look back on how far you have come from when you first started on your weight loss and wellness journey. Recognise the changes you feel and see in yourself. As we know nothing is ever just “Black and White” it is important to look at the “Grey” area in between. For example : Imagine you have eaten something unplanned for, it’s very easy to think negatively then and say to yourself “ I have ruined the day now “ feel bad about it and go on to eat more and then a bad day can lead to another bad day. So the “Grey” area in this case would be to think more positively and say to yourself “ Well it’s only one thing or one day , I can still pull this back “ We should think and talk to ourselves like we would to a friend. What would you say to a friend? ( Start afresh tomorrow, You can do this) Remember at the end of the day, we can be our own best friend or our own worst enemy. We will leave you with this Positive thought . “Don’t wait until you have reached your goal to be proud of yourself, be proud of every step you take towards reaching your goal“

THE ESCAPE ARTIST:

The Man Who Broke Out of Auschwitz to Warn the World By Jonathan Freedland

In April 1944 nineteen-year-old Rudolf Vrba and fellow inmate Fred Wetzler became the first Jews ever to break out of Auschwitz. Under electrified fences and past armed watchtowers, evading thousands of SS men and slavering dogs, they trekked across marshlands, mountains and rivers to freedom. Vrba’s mission: to reveal to the world the truth of the Holocaust. In the death factory of Auschwitz, Vrba had become an eyewitness to almost every chilling stage of the Nazis’ process of industrialised murder. The more he saw, the more determined he became to warn the Jews of Europe what fate awaited them. A brilliant student of science and mathematics, he committed each detail to memory, risking everything to collect the first data of the Final Solution. After his escape, that information would form a priceless thirty-two-page report that would reach Roosevelt, Churchill and the pope and eventually save over 200,000 lives. But the escape from Auschwitz was not his last. After the war, he kept running - from his past, from his home country, from his adopted country, even from his own name. Few knew of the truly extraordinary deed he had done. Now, at last, Rudolf Vrba’s heroism can be known - and he can take his place alongside those whose stories define history’s darkest chapter.

Thanks to the group’s dedication and work, there is currently a massive display of brightly coloured flowers to be seen all about the village. Unfortunately, last Friday night in an act of vandalism somebody removed one of the hanging baskets from the bridge area and dumped it into the river. The basket is broken and can no longer be used. The matter has been reported to the gardai and they are examining security cameras on nearby premises to try and identify the culprit(s).The matter is very upsetting for the Tidy Towns volunteers who give their time freely to improve the appearance of the village for the benefit of the whole community. This act is nothing short of disgraceful and complete disrespect for a group of voluntary people who are endlessly trying to enhance and make the image of our village a one that we are and must be extremely proud of. TARBERT

LIXNAW

TARBERT NEWS Email; tarbertnews@outlook.com or telephone Patrick Lynch at 068/ 36117 on or before 7pm Sunday.

ST MICHAEL’S CHURCH Mass Times: Monday 20th June at 7.30pm. Wednesday 22nd June at 10.00am. Friday 24th June at 7.30pm. Saturday 25th June at 7.30pm for Peter, Colm & Ina Gleasure, Tullig.

SYMPATHY Sympathy of the community is extended to Helen Clifford (née Creedon) of Surrey, England and formerly of Main Street, Tarbert on the death of her husband William, formerly of Croom, County Limerick. William died on Thursday 2 June in the Royal Free Hospital, London and it was his wish to be buried with his parents in Croom. Requiem Mass for William took place in St Mary’s Church, Croom on Thursday 16 June followed by interment in Reilig Mhuire. Helen who taught for many years in England is the daughter of the late Brendan and Eithne Creedon. Sympathy also to the family of the late Maurice (Mossie) Kearney formerly of Kilbaha, Moyvane who died in Manchester, England on 22 May. His Requiem Mass took place on Friday 17 June in the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane followed by interment in Kilnaughtin Cemetery, Tarbert with his late wife Anna Marie (née Cregan). Anna Marie was born in Ardmore, Tarbert and died on 13 August 2021. Beannacht Dé lena h-anamacha uasal dílis. TARBERT NATIONAL SCHOOL The local National School was again in the spotlight this week. On Thursday last 16 June at 8.30pm there was a large rally of parents, grandparents, teachers and children at the National School in support of the Board of Management’s decision to fight for the retention of a teacher. The School would lose a teacher because the School was one pupil short of the magical number of 138 pupils at the end of September 2021. The School will now have that number and with the influx of the Ukrainian refugee children it is hoped that Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD will intervene to retain the teacher. Dail Deputies Pa Daly and Michael Healy-Rae together with local Councillors Michael Foley and Mikie Kennelly attended the rally and promised their support. As we go to press, the good news came through on Friday that the Department of Education had reversed its decision and Tarbert would be retaining its teacher. FUND-RAISER SAMANTHA Well done to Samantha Martin, Tieraclea Park, Tarbert who organised a slow motor bike race at the Lanterns on Saturday 11 June. The event which was well attended by motor-bike enthusiasts from near and far raised €1,506 for the Irish Community Air Ambulance which is based in Cork. Samantha is pursuing a career as an Ambulance paramedic. She has written and illustrated a children’s story book ‘Rapid Response’ on the essential role played by the air ambulance in an emergency situation, proceeds which went to the Air Ambulance fund. We wish Samantha well in her training and future career. TARBERT GAA The winners of the June monthly 500 Draw in aid of Tarbert GAA were €500 won by Nora and Dan O’Connell, Lower Doonard, €50 won by Gavin O’Connor and €50 won by Aoibh Carrrig. The next Draw will take place on Sunday 3 July and tickets are available at Tarbert Post Office or from the usual committee members. Comhghairdeas to Gavin Denihan, Ryan Browne and Dylan Buckley from Tarbert National School who represented Kerry in the Munster GAA schools competition recently in Mallow. These young footballers displayed their skills well and were declared first place winners. CELEBRATION OF LIGHT On Friday 24 June at 7.30pm there will be a Mid-Summer Celebration of Light at Tarbert Pier. You can take part in a special evening of solidarity in honour of those touched by cancer and in support of Recovery Haven Tralee. Fáilte roimh gach éinne go dtí Ché Tairbirt. 1911 CENSUS In a very interesting talk to the Tarbert Historical and Heritage Society on Saturday 18 June, Jerry O’Connell in an analysis of the !911 Census covering the Tarbert and Tarmons DEDS revealed that the Tarbert population had declined by 42% and the Tarmons population had declined by 49% between 1901 and 2016. The ten most common surnames were ‘O’Connor, Fitzell, Enright, Finucane, Mulvihill, O’Connell, Murphy, Stack, Walsh and Lynch. The ten most common Tarbert surnames coming through the Ellis Island centre for entry to America were O’Connor, Murphy, Enright, Scanlon, Stack, Mulvihill, Collins, Kelly, Moore and Patwell. The 1911 Marital Status revealed 538 Married, 1,139 Single, 101 Widows, 50 Widowers, 36 Blank. In a Gender Comparison between 1911 and 2016 he found 956 Males as against 602 in 2016, 906 Females as against 638 a total of 1,862 in 1911 as against 1,240 in 2016. BEALE GAA

Beale seniors were defeated by Keel on Sunday in the County League, Division 4. We were on the back foot from the throw-in and trailed by 0-2 to 1-7 at the short whistle. We found it difficult to come to terms with our opponents as our defence tried to soak up the pressure. Keel added two further goals in the second half and the writing was on the wall for us. The final score read: Beale 0-8, Keel 3-9. We now rank eighth on the table, with four wins from nine games. A vital game when we travel to play Cromane on Saturday evening. They sit just below us on the table. Throw in is at 7 o’clock. Our final round game will be against Austin Stacks B in July. Beale juniors contest Division 4A of the North Kerry League. team. Well done all. U13s County League semi-final result: Tarbert 2-08, Rathmore 3-10. Hard luck to our U13s who lost by 5 points to Rathmore on Sunday evening in Tarbert. Tarbert played against the breeze in the first half and trailed Rathmore 1-06 to 0-04 at half time, with Tarbert’s scores coming from Gavin Denihan (0-02), Ryan Browne (0-01) and Shea Culhane (0-01). Rathmore started well in the second half and extended their lead to 7 points before points from Fionn Egan (0-01) and Dylan Buckley (0-01) reduced the margin between the two sides. A goal from Rathmore midway through the 2nd half again extended the away sides lead. A pin point pass found Tarbert’s Dylan Buckley on the edge of the square and he reduced the deficit to 4 points with a goal for Tarbert. However, a mistake in the Tarbert defence shortly after allowed Rathmore in for their 3rd goal. Tarbert pushed on late in the game and further points from Gavin Denihan (0-01) and Ryan Browne (0-01) and a superb goal from a free from Michael Finucane reduced the deficit to 5 points but it wasn’t enough as Rathmore won on a score line of Tarbert 2-08, Rathmore 3-10. Tarbert panel. FINUGE GAA

SENIOR: The round 9 back game with Ballyduff was played last Sunday where the lads were at home in Finuge. A low scoring and tight affair throughout, saw Finuge leading at halftime by the minimum 0-05 to 0-4. Finuge would go on to rue several good scoring chances for both goals and points, eventually going down by 0-10 to 0-09. This leaves them mid table in seventh place with two more rounds left to play. Next up is an away game to Laune Rangers B, set for this Saturday at 7pm. U15: Our boys return to action with the North Kerry league against Moyvane at home this Wednesday, June 22nd. U13: The county league semifinal was played at home on Sunday evening against Beaufort. The second half continued along the same vein, but with Beaufort striking for two goals late on, the pressure was on! DUAGH/LYRE COMM. GAMES

Tag Rugby: Last Saturday at MTU Tralee the County Community Games competition was held in a fabulous dry day. Duagh/Lyre Community Games had three teams tak u ng part. Huge congratulations to our u11 Tag team who won County gold. Two teams were entered in the competition so it was a straight final against Caherciveen. The game got underway and we didn’t get off to the best of starts going 2-0 then 3-1 down at half time. Caherciveen got off to the better start in the second half going up 5-2, but this young team playing their first ever tag game dug deep and suddenly it all clicked into place with them pulling off some great tries levelling it to 6-6 at full time. This put the game into extra time. In extra time the excitement continued going down 7-6, levelling it 7-7 and in the dying moments of the game a mistake from Caherciveen saw a Duagh/Lyre tip off and a great pass out the wing to Adam Shanahan saw him run into the corner to score the winning try and the whistle being blown. Absolutely heart stopping stuff and a fantastic game by our participants showing their sheer determination on the day. The team have now qualified for Munster finals in September. Team: Anna Troude (Capt), Aoife Ryan, Adam Shanahan, Eamon Dennehy, Jack Cronin, Caoilinn Harte, Holly Carmody, Odhran O’Regan, Liam Fitzgerald, Jermiah Buckley, Gearoid Brosnan and Fionn Buckley.

Congratulations to Duagh/Lyre u14 tag team on winning Silver medals today at the County competition. Duagh/Lyre won the semi final v Caherciveen 11-6. In the final Duagh/Lyre lost out to Beaufort 16-8. Well done to all participants they gave a great display in both games and worked well as a team. Team: Donagh Buckley, Cillian Kirby, Tomás Kelly, Gavin O’Brien, Cody Collins, Fionn Doorley, Catherine Buckley, Asia Fitzgerald, Fiona O’Brien, Emily Rose Ashley and Charlotte Rydziova. Thanks to Eileen and Siobhan for the photos. Good luck to Beaufort in the Munster finals. U16 Tag Rugby: This fantastic bunch of participants who would do anything Community Games turned up like troopers today most after finishing their junior cert and the celebratory disco last night. In their semi final game v Beaufort they put on a great display and lost out by a small margin to make it to the final, the score 11 - 13. In the 3rd and 4th place playoff they played Boherbue/Cloghers/Manor and a superb team effort , with one of the team making their way back from an athletic competition just to play their part. They won 16-8. Team: Eimear Buckley (cpt), Luke Sheridan, Jack Collins, Denis Gould, Ronan Sheridan, Angharad Cudlipp, Cillian McMahon, Dylan Stack, Ryan Stack, Oisín O’Regan,Aoibhínn Harte and we wish Daibheád O’Regan a speedy recovery who unfortunately couldn’t make the game. Thanks to coaches: Derry Buckley and Jason Harte who were with all three teams during the day. Thanks to all the parents/guardians for their continued support. Thanks to Kerry Community Games for hosting a great competition which was coordinated by Nelius Collins and good luck to Spa/ Fenit/Barrow in the Munster finals. Cycling on grass: Huge congratulations to our four cyclists this evening at the County competition last Friday night in MTU Tralee. Our cyclists gave it everything tonight and the training in Duagh Gaa pitch with John Bunyan and our chief of operations Andy Keane paid off. In the u12 boys Eamon Dennehy won gold, this was Eamon’s first time taking part in this event, he’s a determined young lad who never is without his bike. Eamon has qualified for his first National finals. In the u12 girls Kate Sheridan no stranger to this event, having won bronze at National finals last year. Kate stayed with her competitor in the first lap and then pulled away to come away with a great win and the gold medal. A determined lady who has qualified for her third National finals. In the u14 girls Fiona O’Brien first time competitor at this event done herself proud cycling home in the gold medal position. Fiona another determined young lady and an avid cyclist, now secured a place in her first National finals. Our final cyclists this evening was Jack Dennehy, Jack got off to a great start but a small bit of misfortune with the gears dropping changed his position but he ended up with a fabulous bronze medal in his first County competition. Duagh/Lyre now have three cyclists qualified for National finals in September, Eamon, Kate and Fiona. We wish them all the best of luck going forward with the preparations. We are so proud of all our participants. Thanks to County Community Games for hosting the event. Thanks to our volunteers on the night, John and Neilus. Thanks to our participants, parents and supporters on the night. Thanks to Mike Buckley and Duagh Gaa for the use of the pitch. St. Martha, I resort to thee and to thy petition and faith. I offer up to thee this light which I shall burn every Tuesday for nine Tuesdays. Comfort me in all my difficulties through the great favour thou didst enjoy when Our Saviour lodged in thy house. I beseech thee to have definite pity in regard to the favour I ask (Mention favour). Intercede for my family that we may always be provided for in all our necessities. I ask thee St. Martha to overcome the dragon which thou didst cast at thy feet. Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys with a lighted candle every Tuesday and the above prayer made known with the intentions of spreading devotion to St. Martha. This miraculous Saint grants every thing before the Tuesdays are ended. No matter how difficult. K.G.
