€35,000 UPGRADE AND ENHANCEMENTS AT BALLYBUNION PLAYGROUND

Kerry County Council in conjunction with Ballybunion Development Committee recently installed an outdoor street exercise area and inclusive upgrade to the existing playground in Ballybunion. The works were funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs (2020 Programme) in the amount of €3,750 towards an inclusive upgrade of the existing playground and €7,802 from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme towards Outdoor Adult Exercise Equipment in Ballybunion. Kerry County Council’s Community Department and Listowel Municipal District supplemented these grants through the Community Support Fund. Furthermore, Ballybunion Development Committee generously contributed €6,000 towards the project giving an overall budget of €35,000 for the works. Kevin O’Callaghan, Chairperson of Ballybunion Development Company said: “An outdoor summer combined with a state-of-the-art facility like this complements the many attractions that Ballybunion has to offer its visitors and locals alike. Exercise, fitness, beaches and scenic walks makes for a very enjoyable day out. Ballybunion Development Company continues to make town improvements a priority and is looking forward to an influx of visitors this summer that can enjoy this new facility and the benefits of outdoor exercise.” The council and the local development company procured and installed the Inclusive Roundabout and Outdoor Exercise Equipment adjoining the existing playground in Ballybunion. Browne Brothers Site Services Ltd. were awarded the contract and constructed the facility in June 2021, following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. The resulting facility is a wonderful open exercise area available for use by all people in the locality. The rich colours entice users to the facility and encourage use. The facility will make Ballybunion Town Park an extremely attractive area to exercise with a beautiful view of the beach and castle in the background. Ballybunion Playground was developed in 2005. Following a review of the playground in early 2020, it was highlighted that facilities at the playground for children with a difference were limited. The latest installation of an inclusive roundabout within the playground which is fully accessible to children and young people with special needs and/or who require a wheelchair for mobility is a welcome benefit. The new roundabout allows space for assisted devices and wheelchairs to access same and will inspire young children of all abilities to play actively whilst feeling secure in their movements. Cllr Mike Kennelly, Cathaoirleach of the Listowel Municipal District said: “This new exercise equipment provides an additional activity experience for locals and visitors alike. I wish to acknowledge that funding was provided by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme in the amount of €7,802 to Kerry County Council for the installation of Outdoor Exercise Equipment in Ballybunion.” “I also wish to acknowledge that €3,750 funding was provided by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs Capital Grant Funding Scheme for Play and Recreation 2020 towards an Inclusive Roundabout in Ballybunion Playground.” Pictured: Kevin O’Callaghan, Chairperson of Ballybunion Development Company with the Cathaoirleach of the Listowel Municipal District, Cllr Mike Kennelly.

FÍS NA HÓIGE MOVIE REVIEW PATCH ADAMS

This week Fís na hÓige member, Kiana Breathnach, is reviewing the movie; “Patch Adams”. If you’re looking for a family movie to watch, keep an eye on this page where Fís na hÓige will be reviewing the very best movies for you to watch. “Patch Adams” directed by Tom Shadyac and starring Robin Williams is the true story of the heroic man named Hunter “Patch” Adams, who has a deep desire to help others but because of this he is determined to become a doctor and his passion is infectious. The movie opens with a suicidal Patch who has checked into a mental hospital. Here is where he finds his passion to help people but it wasn’t the doctors that helped him to do this, it was the patients. He checks himself out of the hospital with the intention of becoming a doctor. On patch’s journey to becoming a doctor he realises that medicine is an impersonal business. Anytime his superiors referred to a patient by their bed number patch would always ask for their name, which caused some confusion amongst classmates and professors alike. Patch believes that laughter is the best medicine, he is cheerful, fun-loving, quirky and above all lovable. While in the hospital he brings laughter and joy to the sick and dying. He uses humour to improve their quality of life and deliver some final happy memories before death. He gets to know his patients and what they love, he then uses that to bring smiles to their faces. Patch shows that medicine doesn’t have to be impersonal and cold, he shows that you can get to know your patients and have a sense of humour while also being a great doctor. This film takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, it goes from heartwarming to heartbreaking and back to heartwarming again. Robin Williams does an excellent job throughout the whole film, he plays the kind, funny clown who makes people laugh and he genuinely cares about them. It is one of the roles Williams was born to play and it certainly shows. I would recommend that everyone over the age of 12 watch this film. This is the perfect movie to sit down and watch as a family if you are looking for a feel good film. I could not recommend it enough.

CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while incorporating dóTerra’s essential oils into your daily routine. Fractionated Coconut Oil ~ Tips & Tricks! This week I wanted to share with you all the reasons why I and many of my Pod members and followers use ‘Fractionated Coconut Oil’ when using dōTerra’s essential oils. Fractionated coconut oil is a multipurpose carrier oil and is so useful and versatile. I use it to dilute “hot” oils that may cause skin sensitivity. I also like to use it as a moisturiser when mixed with my dōTerra Lavender, Frankincense, Juniper Berry, Geranium or Palmarosa essential oil or use it as part of any skin care routine. It’s also a fantastic makeup remover and I love it because it’s odourless, colourless and has a long shelf life! Tip 1: Use it to dilute essential oils before applying topically, lessening possible skin sensitivity and increasing distribution.

MEMORY LANE THEATRE PERFORMING THE PLAY ‘ROADSIDE’

Play that is currently being performed in Lixnaw ‘Roadside’. Memory Lane Theatre, Lixnaw are currently performing this play in aid of two charities: the Hospice Foundation & the Cancer Society.

Tip 2: Use as an after shower or bath moisturiser for young & old. Tip 3: Apply a few drops to a cotton ball and wipe over make-up to remove naturally. Tip 4: Mix with calming essential oils such as Ylang Ylang or Adaptiv and massage into the shoulders & neck for greater relaxation. Tip 5: Apply to your feet mixed with dōTerra’s Lavender oil to soften the skin.

NEW CATERING BUSINESS ‘BREENS BAKES’ LAUNCHED IN BALLYBUNION

Ballybunion Community Market is pleased to announce the launch of new catering business “Breens Bakes”. Holly and Hazel will be at the market every Saturday 10-1 with their fabulous selection of baked goods, from scones and breads to cakes and treats. Launching their business on Saturday, Hazel and Holly will have a selection of treats for everyone to sample. So be sure to pop by and support these wonderful entrepreneurs.

DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them to your skin with or without a carrier oil. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing them in your homes, classrooms, offices, salons, or places of work / business. The third way to use the oils is internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by putting one drop under the tongue daily. The oils are a natural solution to care for your needs and your family’s health needs. They can support you with many of the following that you may experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. You can contact me for more information on any of the above and I will be happy to assist you in your journey of health and wellbeing with dóTerra’s essential oils. Bespoke packages as a gift for someone special can also be arranged or if you want to create a self care package as a treat for yourself just let me know. For extra positivity and well-being, check out our Facebook page where we have information and videos on all dóTerra’s essential oils, including Master Brody’s Monday Night Lives which are proving extremely popular and helpful with our younger generation. Our newly addition of Caroline’s Fashion Fix every Friday night is also very uplifting and promotes positive body attitude and wellbeing to all of us ladies with clothing from the French label Captain Tortue. Should you wish to view the Autumn/Winter 21 Catalogue, let me know and I will send it to you by email. Until next time, I leave you with our thought for the week, ‘Be happy with the little that you have. There are people with nothing that still manage to smile’. SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column… We hope all is well with you this week.

Isn’t it strange where the week’s are flying by and yet we are trying to make the most of every day by doing something different rather than doing the same thing every day. You could say we do the same with our food choices too , but it’s important to remember that we need to shake things up a bit with different ideas and variety. On our San Rita Wellness plan we can easily bulk up our meals with added fruit and veg as most of these are calorie free on our plan. Fruit and vegetables are great to add colour to our meals which satisfies both our eyes and our belly.

Is Lunch a challenge for you? Are you reaching for the same thing every day like Bread, Bread and more Bread? Are you actually preplanning your Lunch or deciding on the spur of the moment? Are your Lunches filling enough? Lunch is the one meal of the day that is most likely to be eaten away from home, making it harder to stay in control of your food choices. For example : A day trip to the beach, A picnic with some sight seeing, A day out shopping etc. Here are some tips that may help… •

Have a look at some lunch ideas online

Make your own rolls / sandwiches to bring with you

Have some chopped fruit in a container for snacking

Decide to have something different every day

Choose to sit, eat and enjoy your Lunch ( more mindful )

Choose filling foods such as Wholemeal breads, pasta, left over protein such as chicken or fish

Plan 3 or 4 different types of lunches for over the week

Another option for you if you are trying to cut down on bread would be “BROGHIES”. Broghies are a large popped grain type cracker often referred to as an edible bowl. They are low in carbs and calories and are also vegan friendly. You can add a variety of different toppings to them which makes them an ideal lunch or snack. They are available in your local Super Valu store in Listowel and Ballybunion. Some of these tips can help you avoid food boredom. Planning lunch in advance is a great way to ensure you get in more variety and colour and most of all leave you feeling more satisfied. Lunch is every bit as important as every other meal as it has to carry you next main meal. So that is why it’s important that it is filling and healthy in order to avoid any pitfalls during the afternoon. A TOWN CALLED SOLACE By Mary Lawson

Clara’s sister is missing. Angry, rebellious Rose had a row with their mother, stormed out of the house and simply disappeared. Seven-year-old Clara, isolated by her distraught parents’ efforts to protect her from the truth, is griefstricken and bewildered. Liam Kane, newly divorced, newly unemployed, newly arrived in this small northern town, moves into the house next door, a house left to him by an old woman he can barely remember, and within hours gets a visit from the police. It seems he’s suspected of a crime. At the end of her life Elizabeth Orchard is thinking about a crime too, one committed thirty years ago that had tragic consequences for two families and in particular for one small child. She desperately wants to make amends before she dies. Set in Northern Ontario in 1972, A Town Called Solace explores the relationships of these three people brought together by fate and the mistakes of the past. By turns gripping and darkly funny, it uncovers the layers of grief and remorse and love that connect us, but shows that sometimes a new life is possible. ‘Poised, elegant prose, paired with quiet drama that will break your heart. The sort of book that seems as if it has always existed because of its timeless perfection’ GRAHAM NORTON

BEREAVEMENT Friday 23rd of July will be forever edged in the memory of so many people as it was the day that one of Ballylongford’s most famous son’s Conor Heaphy R.I.P. sadly passed from our midst after 67 wonderful years of which he enjoyed and loved so much. If there was ever a gentleman of this world award Conor would be a hugely strong contender and no doubt would be on the winner’s podium that is for sure. One only needs to read the wonderful tributes that are written by so many people on the condolence section of the RIP.ie website of his bereavement page to understand how truly this wonderful man was held in such rightful and high esteem. The numerous people that he had been a friend and colleague of all his life, all echoed the same sentiment “Gentleman”. Indeed that is what Conor was to so many people that had the pleasure of knowing him. While he had so many interests in life his devotion and love of his family was immense, his deep affection, loyalty, respect of his family was the deep bond that he always showed to his beloved wife Anne their children Norette, Áine and Niall, his brother John (Monaghan), sisters Helen (Ballybunion), Marie (Killorglin), Noreen (Abbeyfeale) and Catríona (Spain);sons-in-law,

18

daughter-in-law, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law nephews, nieces, and in most recent times the arrival of his wonderful grandchildren Conor, Fiadh, Darragh, Jack, Shane, Éala and Ella who he cherished and adored most proudly. It is to his grieving family that we extend our deepest sympathies at this very sad and heartbreaking time, we must also thank his family for giving us the privilege of also sharing in his wonderful life, a life of which was an inspiration to all of us as his contribution to our community and particularly to his beloved Bally O’Rahilly G.A.A. Club was enormous and was like a second family to him. He was the backbone of that wonderful Bally team of the 70’s which were kingpins of North Kerry, and County during that era. He has to his mighty credit 1 All Ireland Seven a Side Title (1977), 2 All Ireland E.S.B. Inter Firm Medals, 2 County Senior Football Championship Medals (1972 and 1977), 3 County Senior Intermediate Championship medals (1971, 1972 and 1976) 5 North Kerry Senior Football Championship Medals (1970,1971,1974, 1975 and 1986) He also has a number of North Kerry Senior League medals, the last being in 1982 when he captained Bally to victory, but sadly that year the team were defeated by the smallest of margins by Beale in the Final of the Senior Championship. Plus numerous medals from Parish Carnivals all around North Kerry and West Limerick. On hanging up the boots he devoted his time and energy to managing various teams within the Club and coached and encouraged many a young player most of whom became great sportsmen and footballers through the years. In 2010 he took over the Chairmanship of Shannon Rangers where he worked tirelessly over a four year period. He was appointed as Vice Chair in 2014 a position he has held right up to his passing. That is just the scratching of the surface as to what this wonderful man has done for his beloved Club and Community. He had other great interests also one of which was his love of Greyhounds and had a few good ones down the years. From being an out and out sportsman he was also a very hard working man and in the early 70’s took up employment at the Tarbert E.S.B. Power station, here also he became a leading light among his work colleagues and one who was highly admired and respected, he retired from the E.S.B just under a decade ago and had enjoyed his new lease of life with his wife and family and keeping more than occupied running the family farm up until recently. Conor’s enthusiasm, drive and community spirit will be sorely missed by all that knew him, as will his good nature, smile and good humour. He was an inspiration to all of us and his contribution to our community was enormous. He will be remembered fondly and never forgotten. Sleep well a Chara Gael and may you Rest in Peace. Conor reposed at his family home over the weekend, with his funeral cortege leaving the family residence on Monday for 12 noon Requiem mass at St Michael’s the Archangel Church Ballylongford followed by interment afterwards in Lislaughtin Abbey. We managed to field two teams, both playing some lovely football. The U11 hurlers played Kilmoyley away on Saturday evening. It was a very competitive free flowing game in which both teams showed some great skill and determination. U13 – Well done to the U13 hurlers who beat Abbeydorney away on Tuesday evening. U15 – Well done to the U15 footballers who won their final on Wednesday against Knock Brosna. Ballyduff had a very strong start with Evan Boyle winning the majority of Eamonn O’Connor’s kickouts and at half-time we were leading comfortably on a score line of 3 – 7 to 0 – 4. Knock/Brosna did manage to bring the deficit back to 6 points, especially with an injured Luke Rochford forced to the bench, but the Ballyduff boys adapted and managed to dominate the remainder of the game. Final score 3 – 15 to 1 – 7. Congratulations to players and management. BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS Minor Hurling – Our Minor hurlers were back in action after the three-week break. Ballyheigue were the opponents at home and the break did not do our boys any good as we made a poor start with the visitors ahead at the first water break 1 - 5 to 0 – 5 and we were still in arrears by two points at halftime. A feature of the second half was a hat trick of goals from Evan Boyle, two from the penalty spot and one play, and Ballyduff drove on to win by 3 - 16 to 2 – 10, a score line that was slightly flattering. Still, it was a good workout considering we were short some players through holidays and injury. Next fixture is away to Lixnaw on Sunday next. Kerry Hurling – Ballyduff were well represented in Minor, U20 and Kerry Senior Hurling teams during the past week with six players on Under 20 panel – Darragh Quinlan, Kevin Goulding, Darragh Slattery, Dylan Moriarty, JP O’Carroll and Kyle O’Connor, six players on the Minor panel – Andre Rodrigues, Ray Whelan, Anthony Kavanagh (Captain), Jack Enright, Killian Boyle and Conor Murphy while three players Mikey Boyle, Podge Boyle and Eoin Ross were on the senior team. Father and son, Mikey and Killian Boyle, maintained the Boyle tradition by scoring goals in their respective games. Unfortunately, all three teams lost in what was a bleak week for Kerry hurling teams. Ballyduff players gave their all and represented Club and County with distinction. Well done boys. Hurling Championship – Attention now turns to the Kerry Senior Hurling Championship with Ballyduff drawn in a tough group with Causeway and St. Brendan’s. Games will be played in early August.

LIXNAW

NOTES E-MAIL ADDRESS; notesplynch@outlook.com or tel Patrick Lynch at 068 36117 before 7pm Sunday.

LIXNAW GAA Split the Bucket Draw: Congratulations to Fionnuala O’Connor, The Village, lucky winners of €112. Next week’s draw will be held in J.J. Walsh’s, Lixnaw. Thanks for your continued support.

SYMPATHY Sympathy of the community is extended to Nora Horan, Dooncaha, Tarbert on the death of her sister Mary White (née O’Sullivan) of Tournafulla, County Limerick. Mary died unexpectedly on Saturday 18 July. Requiem Mass and burial took place on Tuesday 20 July. Sympathy also to the extended White and O’Sullivan families. Sympathy of the community is also extended to the wife and family of the late Conor Heaphy, Carrigafoyle, Ballylongford. Conor worked for many years up until his retirement as a member of the permanent ESB staff at Tarbert Power Station. He was very popular with his work colleagues. His death on Friday 23 July at a comparatively young age came as a great shock to everybody. Beannacht Dé le h-anamacha na marbh go léir. LUIMNEACH ABU Congratulations to Grace Kelly, Mungret St Pauls, who designed the Limerick Ladys’ Gaelic Football Jersey in conjunction with the Woodlands Hotel, Adare. Grace is grand-daughter of Mary and Patrick Kelly, Tarbert and Grace and Michael Holly, Glin. The very attractive team jersey is on display in Coolahan’s Window, Main Street, courtesy of Mary Coolahan, Limerick’s Ambassador in residence. Also on view is a framed copy of ‘Ode to the Sallowglen Stag’ penned by local poet Patsy O’Shea. Well worth a look! A KERRYMAN ABROAD A Kerryman who reads his favourite newspaper avidly every week is Nicholas Murphy, Sallowglen, Tarbert who has lived for many years in New York. A past pupil of St Ita’s College, Tarbert became CEO of the giant U.S. firm AT&T. Long retired he follows the GAA scene regularly with very decided views on recent rule changes. He is looking forward to returning to Sallowglen in September. He was delighted to hear that Nuala was reopening after her nine months lockdown and he asked me to remind her to change the barrel!. Nicholas sends best wishes to his cousin James Murphy and to everybody in Tarbert and Ballylongford. ARD CHURAM FLAG DAY Fogra from Kitty McElligott to remind people that there will be a Flag Day from 9am to 9pm in Tarbert on Friday 20 August in aid of Ard Churam Fuschia Alzheimer Centre at the Hospital Grounds in Listowel. It is hoped to have this Centre open on 3 August. The Social Day Care Centre is open catering for meet ups, social gatherings, bingo and meal provisions. Your support will help to extend care and facilities at this very much needed Centre in North Kerry. Well done and thanks to everybody involved. SEANFHOCAIL NA SEACHTAINE ‘An te nach gcuireann san earrach, ni bhainfidh sé san fhomhar’ - Whoever does not plant in the Spring does not reap in the Autumn. ‘Is minic a bhí fear maith í seanbhriste ‘- A good man often wore old trousers. ‘Ní chronaitear an t-uisce go dtriomaitear an tobar’ - The water is not missed until the well runs dry. Never more relevant than in this dry spell, so water is a finite resource, don’t waste it.

Presbytery House, Lixnaw in aid of the Hospice Foundation and the Cancer Society. Roadside was written by the well-known play writer John Mc Donnell under the pseudonym of Noel Marian and this particular play has a long association with Lixnaw as it was first performed in 1947 by the Kiltomey Players Drama Group and by St Michael’s Drama Group in 1990 & 1991. Over the years Noel Marian’s plays were always very popular with the Lixnaw audience especially the Wigs on the Green and Swan Song. His most famous play was All the Kings Horses which was first produced by the Abbey Theatre in 1961. The family of John McDonnell have very generously waived the licence fee of this production. Prebooking is essential due to Covid guidelines as numbers are limited at each night performance (for bookings & enquiries contact Siobhan 087-1469458). The play is currently being performed at 7.30pm sharp on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Memory Lane Theatre are a very talented group and their production of this play is outstanding. The cast are as follows: Siobhan, Gloria & Emily Keane, Padraig Dennehy, Ciarán O’Murchú, Chris Fitzgerald, Róisin McCormack and Maria Conway. TIMMY NOONAN Timmy left this world without getting time to say goodbye.

Contact: moyvanenotes@gmail.com GOODBYE TO FR. KEVIN It is regrettable that our Bishop has seen fit to remove Fr. Kevin from our parish after such a short time and in the middle of a pandemic. Everything has remained static for the past eighteen months and we have all been encouraged to remain in our own spaces, so to me it makes no sense from a safety perspective. It has been a tough time for everyone but Fr. Kevin has had to deal with so many families who have lost loved ones since the virus took hold. We have had a horrendous time in Moyvane since the beginning of 2020. In this parish alone we have had 33 deaths. We have lost people in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, babies, a mother of a young family. Fr. Kevin has had to deal with all these families and all the sadness that goes with it. At one point he officiated at 3 funerals one week, 3 funerals the next week and 2 funerals the third week, EIGHT funerals in three weeks! Preparations for funerals are not easy, the families have to be advised, readings arranged and homilies prepared. This is quite stressful, he is a man who lives alone, and he is human like the rest of us. He has gone above and beyond the call of duty and there are many in this parish who can testify to that. There is no other parish in this country that has provided more Masses than Fr. Kevin. This was much appreciated, not alone by locals but by the wider community of North Kerry and West Limerick who flocked to the Church car park to hear Mass and tuned in to the radio in their homes. Since he arrived in Moyvane he has turned this parish around. Young people had started to come back to church again.

He was a wonderful young man, full of fun, taken from his family and community far too soon. He was everything you would want in a son, brother, partner, uncle or member of any family. His funeral was a true testament to his popularity. It is not normal to see so many young people shouldering their friend from his home to the local church but that was the scene last Saturday. The donation of his organs will, hopefully, be a consolation to his family. Unfortunately it will not bring him back but in time it will be nice to know that there is some of Timmy out there still living and keeping someone else alive. Sincere sympathy to his Mom Tricia, Dad Con, sister Siobhan, brother James, partner Nicola, grandmother Kathleen and his extended family. Sleep easy Timmy. You will not be forgotten in Moyvane. MASSES FOR THE WEEK CHURCH OF THE ASSUMPTION, MOYVANE: Wednesday, July 28 Anniversary Mass at 7.30pm for Denis Corridan, Murhur. Thursday, July 29 Anniversary Mass for Jeremiah Mulvihill, Aughrim and deceased members of the Mulvihill and Connolly families. Friday, July 30 Anniversary Mass at 7.30pm for Jerry Clancy, Knockanure. Saturday, July 31 Anniversary Mass at 7.30pm for Mary & Ned O’Flaherty, Tubbertoureen. Sunday, August 01 Anniversary Mass at 11.00am for Maurice Harnett, Leitrim West. CHURCH OF CORPUS CHRISTI, KNOCKANURE Sunday, August 01 Mass at 9.30am for the staff and residents of Aras Mhuire Nursing Home (living) and the deceased members of the aforementioned at the request of James Gould.

The church is now a comfortable place in which to attend services thanks to his fundraising concerts. The priest’s house has had a makeover and the surrounding area is state of the art. This is my opinion. You may not agree with it and I know there are some in this parish who think otherwise. We are all entitled to our own opinion and sometimes perhaps we do not know the whole story so goodbye Fr. Kevin, stay safe and I hope you enjoy your new parish. You will be missed.

BEALE GAA

Best of luck to Robert Stack and his six North Kerry team mates on the Kerry team who play Cork in the Munster Minor Football Championship semi-final on Friday evening in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. A crucial County League game for our seniors who travel to Firies on Sunday. We are placed third on the league table, level on points with Castlegregory. A win at the weekend against table toppers, Firies, could mean divisional promotion, dependant on Castlegregory’s result against Tarbert. Throw in on Sunday is at 2 o’clock. Our under-20 game against Firies has been rescheduled to be played on Bank Holiday Monday at 8 o’clock in Farranfore. Our final round game in the County League, Division 4, will be against An Ghaeltacht on August 7th. This week’s Beale Lotto numbers drawn were 9. 11, 26 and 27. There was no jackpot winner and no Match-3 winners. Next week’s jackpot is €1,700. Thank you to everyone who supports our weekly lotto. Get your Beale Lotto tickets at Joyce’s Newsagents or online. Download the Clubforce App or log onto https:// clubforce.com/clubs/beale-gaa-kerry/. Beale GAA Club extends sympathies to the family of Bill Galvin, Ballyeigh, who recently passed to his eternal reward. Bill’s sons proudly wore the green and red down the years. Stephen was a very promising under-age and minor player and he did the club proud representing us on the county team. Unfortunately, plagued by injury, Stephen’s playing career was interrupted. Nevertheless, Stephen bounced back and played senior club football and indeed lined out with Beale juniors until recently. Stephen has also been active as team mentor with Coiste na nÓg. Liam Galvin was Beale’s senior keeper of the net in the late nineties and early noughties.

Another busy weekend for Lios Tuathail A.C. athletes crossing provinces to compete at events in Templemore and Carlow tracks over Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, at the Munster under 20s in Templemore, medals and pb’s were in plentiful supply. Padraic McCarthy carried on his great year with a gold in the Weight for Distance and a bronze in the Shot. Megan Lynch continued her outstanding run of form with bronze medals in both the 100 and 200m, achieving a pb in the 100 final. The boys all performed admirably in the 100 and 200m, Rory Lynn getting new pb’s in both events. Brendan O Leary broke his 200 metre record, and Louis O Connell achieving a new pb in the final of the 200m. All these athletes have at least 2 years left at under 20s so the future is bright.

On Sunday, Megan and Louis travelled on to Carlow to run in the AAI senior games at the wonderful new facilities in Carlow IT. In oppressive heat, they both performed well, Megan finishing second in her 100 metre race, and Louis coming home 4th in both his 100 and 200. Understandably, their times were down a little on the day before, but both ran admirably in the circumstances, and can be very pleased with their efforts over the weekend.
