NEW MONTH LONG FESTIVAL IN OCTOBER TO ATTRACT DIASPORA

The new Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr John Francis Flynn was in London last week for the launch of the Global Irish Festival Series at the Irish Embassy and meetings with the Kerry Association London. The festival series, jointly funded by Fáilte Ireland and Kerry County Council, places Kerry among the counties at the centre of a national effort to connect with their diasporas. Kerry’s mini gathering titled ‘An Turas Mór/ Homecoming Kerry’ takes place over five weekends during the month of October. An impressive programme of over thirty events, some existing and others new, will take place in towns and villages across the county. These will include Street Spectacles, seasonal festivals, clan gatherings of the O’Sullivan, O’Connor, McCarthy and Fitzgerald families, sporting events and a large diaspora business event in Tralee. Mayor Flynn invited Kerry’s London Association to become actively involved in the event and a number of joint initiatives were discussed including honouring those past and present who have brought honour to Kerry and their host communities abroad through their exceptional service. Speaking at the launch in London, Moira Murrell, Chief Executive, Kerry County Council said that An Turas Mór would deliver memorable visitor experiences that will attract overseas and domestic visitors to the county and provide a welcome boost for tourism businesses during the shoulder season. Voluntary and community groups are being invited to become involved in the various activities. A new website has been set up to promote the event at: www.homecomingkerry.com Pictured: At the London Launch of the Global Irish Festival Series in the Irish Embassy London. DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And we can take these oils internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. Feel free to ring me on the number below for more information or to make an appointment. For extra positivity and well-being, check out my Facebook page – Caroline’s Pod of Positivity where we have information and videos on all of DóTerra’s essential oils. USEFUL TO KNOW THE PROS AND CONS OF TAX ON RENTAL INCOME - FDC GROUP

By John Browne, FDC Group Limerick

If you are renting out a residence, what should you do about tax? If you are getting mortgage interest tax relief at source (MITRS) on your mortgage, get onto the Revenue and cancel it. You cannot claim MITRS when renting out your property. Register the letting of your property with the PRTB. This is a legal requirement and very important for tax purposes. Make a list of the cost of all furniture and fittings being provided, how much they cost and when you bought them. Keep receipts for all expenses incurred in respect of letting out the property e.g. letting agents’ fees, service charges, PRTB registration fee, repairs, mortgage interest certificate, advertising costs, and more. After the end of the tax year, you must tell the Revenue about your rental income. You will have to complete a simple profit and loss rental account and make a claim for the furniture and fittings provided. Regarding the payment of tax on rental income, if you are taxed under self-assessment you must complete a tax form every year no later than the end of October to avoid penalties. If you are a PAYE earner, then you should complete a tax return F12 every year and send it to Revenue before the end of October. If you have rental income and are taxed under self-assessment you have to complete a tax form every year no later than the end of October to avoid penalties. If you are a PAYE earner then you should complete a tax return (F12) every year and send it to the Revenue before the end of October. You also have to pay tax on any Airbnb lettings. The rent a room exemption does not apply so you need to record your expenses and receipts to claim them as a tax deduction against your Airbnb income. You cannot claim tax relief against rental income for the Local Property Tax. But you can claim mortgage payments against rental income, but only for the interest part of your mortgage payments. Residential properties must be registered with the PRTB to claim mortgage interest tax relief. And yes, you can claim tax relief for furniture costs and ongoing maintenance of a rental property. The initial fit-out costs for furniture, appliances etc are allowed at a rate of 12.5% per annum for eight tax years. Ongoing maintenance for repairs and replacements can be claimed as a tax deduction when incurred. What is a replacement for rental income tax relief? This applies for low-cost items that are cheaper to replace than repair e.g. microwave breaks down, so you buy a new one or a window is broken and you have to put a new one in. If a tenant leaves and the property is empty for a few months, for tax purposes you still claim the full annual costs incurred on the property, provided it will be re-let once a tenant is found. You have to pay preliminary tax on rental income if you pay tax under our self-assessment system. If your rental profit is €5,000 or over, you are automatically treated as a self-assessment tax case and the onus is on you to complete tax returns and pay whatever tax is owed on time. If a tenant damages your property, you can claim tax relief for the cost of repairs, replacements and re-decoration. John Browner is a consultant with FDC Limerick.

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well At San Rita Wellness your self care and well being is important to us. Wellness covers a variety of areas such as eating healthily, being active and looking after ourselves both mentally and physically. One of the ways of looking after ourselves is getting a good nights sleep. But that’s probably easier said than done. Sleeping well directly affects your mental and physical health. Health experts recommend that we should try and get 7 to 9 hours sleep a night. Fall short and it can take a serious toll on your daytime energy, productivity, emotional balance, and even your weight. We can often feel moody, short tempered and reach for sugary foods to give ourselves a bit of an energy boost. Yet many of us regularly toss and turn at night, struggling to get the sleep we need. If you want to optimize your health or lose weight, getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most important things you can do. Here are some tips to help you sleep better at night. Sleep Routine Try to go to sleep and get up at the same time every day. This helps set your body’s internal clock and optimize the quality of your sleep. Feeling drowsy Having a heavy meal late in the evening can leave you feeling sleepy way before your bedtime. get off the couch and go for a short walk, call a friend, or get your clothes ready for the next day. Screen time Screen time limits your dream time . Avoid bright screens within 1-2 hours of your bedtime. The blue light emitted by your phone, tablet, computer is especially disruptive. Say no to late-night television.

THE MASTER

The Brilliant Career of Roger Federer By Christopher Clarey

Widely regarded as one of the greatest ever sportspeople, Roger Federer is a global phenomenon. From his humble beginnings as a temperamental teenager to becoming symbol of enduring greatness, The Master is the definitive biography of a global icon who is both beloved and yet intensely private. But his path from temperamental, bleach-blond teenager with dubious style sense to one of the greatest, most self-possessed and elegant of competitors has been a long-running act of will, not destiny. He not only had a great gift. He had grit.

Wind down Have a relaxing wind down routine. Have a bath ,listen to music or read a book. When it’s time to sleep, make sure the room is dark. Use heavy curtains or shades to block light from windows, or try a sleep mask.

With access to Federer’s inner circle, including his wife, Mirka, his longtime trainer and based on one-on-one interviews with Federer, legendary sports reporter Chris Clarey’s account will be a must read retrospective for the loyal sports fans, and anyone interested in the inner workings of unfaltering excellence. The Master tells the story of Federer’s life and career on both an intimate and grand scale.

Avoid alcohol Having a couple of drinks at night can negatively affect your sleep and hormones. Alcohol is known to cause or increase the symptoms of sleep apnea, snoring, and disrupted sleep patterns

OPEN FROM 10.30AM - 5.30PM MONDAY TO SATURDAY

Tidy room To optimize your bedroom environment, try to minimize external noise, light, and artificial lights from devices like alarm clocks. Make sure your bedroom is a quiet, relaxing, clean, and enjoyable place. Daily Exercise People who exercise regularly during the daytime sleep better at night. Regular exercise also improves the symptoms of insomnia and sleep apnea and increases the amount of time you spend in the deep, restorative stages of sleep. Limit Caffeine Caffeine stimulates your nervous system and may stop your body from naturally relaxing at night. In one study, consuming caffeine up to 6 hours before bed significantly worsened sleep quality

First off were our minor hurling team who made the trip to Abbeydorney at noon to take on the locals in the quarter-final of the County Minor Hurling Championship. Ballyduff were very quick off the blocks and picked off scores at will and were in a very good position at halftime. They took the luxury of resting some players to give the panel a chance and ran out convincing winners on the final score Ballyduff 2 – 25 Abbeydorney 0 – 3. Next up for Minors is a semi-final v Crotta/Kilmoyley on a date to be confirmed. Senior: On to Tralee where our Seniors took on St. Brendans in the final group game of the County Senior Hurling Championship Round 1. Taking example from the minors they hit the ground running swinging over points from all angles and held a halftime lead of five points. They continued to dominate and ran out winners 0 – 22 to 0 – 14. That meant Ballyduff topped the group but lost out on a draw for a place in the semi-finals with Crotta and Kilmoyley going through meaning we have to play Abbeydorney in a quarter final on this Saturday July 16th at 4.00pm with Causeway meeting Ballyheigue in the other quarter final at 6.00pm. Well done to all concerned on a very enjoyable day’s sport.

“If you are trying to convert me you are wasting your time. I’m very happy with my own way of thinking. We don’t “do” God in our house.” Recently I was thinking about this conversation l had with a friend some years ago. In the course of our chat l had shared about how coming to know the One, True and Living God of the bible had changed my life so incredibly for the better. l shared that l made the choice to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour of my life after years of searching for real meaning and purpose. I had “religion” back then but l never knew the love of God. I knew rules and regulations and fear of punishment for breaking the rules. But l had no idea of “....what is the width and length and depth and height...of the love of Christ which passes knowledge.” Ephesians 3:18-19. For me, being a follower of Jesus is the difference between living each day now with hope, peace, purpose and joy, while safe and secure in the perfect knowledge that l am a child of my Heavenly Father and that Jesus Christ has secured eternity OR just existing, as l was , looking to a hopeless

world for direction, for purpose, in a world that seems to try everything to prevent belief in the existence of a Holy Loving God. I am full of faults and failings and fall so short as a human being. BUT l know my Saviour loves me. Jesus died for me....and you. He died to gain our love!!The God who created the universe - the most powerful Being ever loves you and me....personally. I can’t wrap my head around that but l believe it. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that “..neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Roman’s 8:38-39 I wish everyone in the world knew the One, True and Living God. There is no greater love available to humanity. If you require any further information you can call LCF at 087 9529907. Yours in Christ, Bridie (Dillon)Hartney
