FUEL ALLOWANCE TO BE PAID FOR 28 WEEKS TO 14,086 PEOPLE IN KERRY
The national fuel allowance scheme for the 2022/23 season will help many households in Kerry with their winter heating costs, Fine Gael Councillor Mike Kennelly has said.
Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys TD, has announced the start of the National Fuel Allowance Scheme, which will be paid over 28 weeks.
Fine Gael Councillor, Kennelly has confirmed the Fuel Allowance will be paid for 28 weeks to 14,086 people in County Kerry, with many more people in County to qualify this year.
“14,086 people in County who are entitled to the Fuel Allowance will now be able to avail of it as we approach the winter. The payment is made at the weekly rate of €33 or, by way of two lump sum payments if people prefer.”
“In Budget 2023 my colleague Minister Humphreys also ensured a €400 addi tional Lump Sum payment for all households in receipt of the Fuel Allowance Payment. This will be paid the week commencing 14th November 2022. This will bring the total value of the Fuel Allowance to €1,324 per household.”
“In addition, as part of Budget 2023, Minister Humphreys secured funding for the largest ever expansion of the Fuel Allowance scheme. This expansion will bring many more County households (81,000 more nationally) into the scheme. This will be of particular benefit for older people with a new Means Test taking effect for Over 70s from January.”
“Under this new over 70s means test, a single person can have income of €500 per week and a couple can have income of €1000 per week. In the case of a couple where one person is under 70 and one person is over 70, they will be as sessed under the Over 70s Means Test criteria. The weekly means threshold for those aged under 70 will also be increased by €80 per week, from €120 to €200 above the weekly rate of State Pension Contributory.”
“We in Fine Gael know that times are tough and we are ensuring we put more money in your pocket to help reduce the impact of the higher cost of living.”
The Department of Social Protection is now working on developing the necessary IT systems and application forms to give effect to these changes from January.
Minister Humphreys added: “Broadening the eligibility of the Fuel Allowance to include more older people was a priority for me in the Budget and my Department is now working on developing the necessary IT systems and application forms so that persons Over 70 will be able to benefit from these changes from January.”
“We have also increased the weekly means threshold for those aged under 70 by €80 per week. Combined it is estimated these changes will bring an extra 81,000 households into the Fuel Allowance Scheme which represents the largest ever expansion of the Scheme.”
“As part of the Budget, I secured approval for a range of other Lump Sum Pay ments to support our pensioners, carers, people with disabilities and working fam ilies and I will be setting out the timetable for these payments in the coming days.”

Ballybunion Tidy Towns would like to thank the Community Activity Fund award from Kerry County Council, which helped to cover our insurance costs during the Covid lockdown pe riod. Tidy Towns was very grateful for the award.
Also, Ballybunion Tidy Towns would once again like to thank the Community Support Fund through Kerry County Council, as well as the Local Water Authority and Clean Coast for their help in funding the new Cashen Biodiversity Garden and Learning Centre within the Cashen Park at the end of Sandhill Road.
We hope schools, groups and individuals will take advantage of this new learning opportu nity. Thanks must also go to Geoff Hunt, environmental consultant, for his help and photos used in disseminating the relevant information.

SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column
No matter what time of the year it is we all have something to look forward to and make plans for various upcoming events in all of our lives. Not to mention Christmas which we hope will bring us all some cheer to end the year.
We all want to look and feel great for Christmas so therefore we can look on Christmas as a target for setting ourselves an overall personal goal. That means we are more likely to achieve it when we have a beginning and an end to that target.
As it is now October this could be an ideal time to set a goal for Christmas. In just over ten weeks it will be Christmas so this could be the right time for you to start making plans as every week will count to help you achieve your goal.
A goal for Christmas may vary from person to person, it could be anything from losing 7lbs in weight, dropping a dress size, seeing a new number on the scales or clothes fitting better.
Know your goals
Once you have decided what changes you need to make to your lifestyle and feel ready to make them, it can be really helpful to set your personal goal. Goals help you focus on making realistic changes that will make a difference to your lifestyle and will be personal to you. That means you are more likely to achieve them.
When setting your goals, make sure they are S.M.A.R.T.
S - Specific - A specific goal has a much greater chance of being achieved than a general goal.
M - Measurable - Measure your progress weekly whether it’s the Scales, Clothes, Fitness or Mood.
A - Achievable - Make sure your goal is achievable for YOU, that helps to make it more possible.
R - Relevant - What will it mean to you when you reach your goal. How will you look, How will you feel?
T - Timely - Every goal needs a target date. So there is a beginning and an end.
Now that you have set your goal it is time to recognise the changes you may need to make to your diet and lifestyle.
Here are some tips to help you :
• Eat regular well balanced meals and be aware of mindless snacking as the kettle may always be on the boil with everyone working or schooling from home.
• Include plenty of fruit and vegetables. The recommended daily amount of fruit and vegetables combined is 5 to 7 servings a day.
• Plan your meals ahead of time. You will be a lot more organised and you will get more variety into your meals.
• Drink plenty of water. It is recommended we consume 1 &1/2 to 2 litres a day. This is important to keep the body hydrated.
• Be active for at least 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week. This not alone helps to tone the body but it is also important for our mindset.
For extra support and for weekly accountability check us out on Facebook San Rita Well ness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “ In Person Meetings “ “ At Home Service “ or our “ One to One Service “

MARY LOU MCDONALD
By Shane Ross
Mary Lou McDonald is the bookies’ favourite to be Ireland’s next Taoiseach. She would be the first woman to reach the office, and the first Sinn Féin leader ever to enter government in the Republic of Ireland. But how did a quintessentially bour geois woman become the leader of a political party with such recent links to terrorism?
This exhaustively researched biography unearths new details of her family background and her privileged education, as well as her initial foray into politics through the more traditional Fianna Fáil party. It explores her unusually late com mitment to political life and traces her mysterious but meteoric rise through the ranks of Sinn Féin and her relentless drive to reach the top of the party. Scrupulously fair and balanced, Mary Lou McDonald illumi nates its subject’s political awakening and her interactions with the hard men of the IRA, while posing important questions about the evolution and future of Sinn Féin.

Memorial Day
A fine crowd turned out for our memorial day on Sunday last at Pairc naGael
The day was to honour two former great club men, Martin Lyons & John Moloney. Despite the horrendous weather conditions, the stand was full for all games on display.
First up was the underage setup & they really gave it their all & enjoyed their day in the rain!
Next was the mixed game & this didn’t disappoint either with numbers turn ing up that exceeded expectations
Therefore there were 4 teams with male, female, young, old & older togging out to honour & remember both John & Martin
The weather was poor but all agreed that it was a very enjoyable day
There were refreshments afterwards in the packed club room with presenta tions to the winning team
Chairman Seamus Toomey spoke of the contribution that John & Martins gave to the club over the years
Presentations were also made to Marian Moloney & Mary Lyons as a gesture from the club
Though emotional, it was a lovely day for all involved & the club would like to thank everyone for turning up on the day to remember and honour our two great friends

BUSY WEEK FOR TROJAN BOXING CLUB
Nine 9 full classes ran again this week from U8s to Adults women/men. The work rate by everyone is just outstanding, boxers and coaches. Brilliant to see such a buzz in the club.
Friday evening saw Scarlette, James, Bradley, Bobby, Spencer, Orlando & Joe take to ring in Rathkeale BC for some excellent rounds of sparring. All boxers did very well. Thanks to Peter, Rob, Gavin and the Rathkeale crew for having us, a pleasure as always!
On Saturday we had Scarlette, James & Emmett take on a team from Dublin in an excellently run sparring session in Sliabh Luachra BC. All 3 boxers got some great rounds in with some great opposition and took away a few things to work on for the next outing. Big thanks as always to Jen & John in Sliabh Luachra.
Lastly, we had Spencer Gadbury finally step through the ropes in the home of Irish boxing, in his first ever contest in the National Novice Championships. Huge achievement for Spencer to get into the ring in the National Stadium, a boxer who trains very hard and has a lot of potential. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for Spencer, coming up against a bigger op ponent, but the experience and learning that Spencer took away from this contest was bigger than any win. You never lose, you either win or learn and we are so proud of you. The only way is up for Spencer and the rest of Team Trojan.
Big well done to all boxers & coaches, another big week of training com ing up.
Pictured are Scarlette Ball, Emmett Daly & James McCarthy who all sparred in Sliabh Luachra BC against a Dublin team

MEANING OF LIFE
This past week I had a medical appointment. The meeting with my health official was therefore brief but how her parting words blessed me and impacted my whole week. Just 3 simple words. All she said was “you’ve done well.” I felt so uplifted. l couldn’t believe how much those en couraging words blessed me.
It got me thinking about Someone else from whom l long to hear those words at a future date.
In the Gospel of Matthew chapter 25 Jesus tells us the parable of the talents. This parable hints at various rewards in Heaven for those who serve God faithfully in this world. The words I am referring to are uttered by Jesus at the close of the parable. “Well done good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many things.” Don’t our hearts just long to hear those words “you’ve done well !”
Remember that Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us “... by grace you have been saved, through faith and.....it is a gift of God not of works lest anyone should boast.” That’s incredible. We are
saved only by the grace of God. But in the very next verse we read that we are saved “for good works.”
We have purpose and that purpose is to do His will and pursue good works. That may be as sim ple as encouraging someone who is feeling dis couraged. We never know how much our words impact others.
Jesus urges us in the Gospel of Matthew 6:19 to “lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven....”
In Hebrews 11:6 l read that “without faith it is impossible to please God for he ( that’s any one of us)who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
So this week let us seriously consider these words and “let us take thought of how to spur one another on to love and good works,“ Hebrews 10:24.. There is too much at stake to ignore them. If you require any further information, you can call LCF at 0879529907
Yours sincerely, Bridie (Dillon) Hartney
OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
Oh, most beauti ful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven.
Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Im maculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity (Mention your request here)
There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3 times). Amen
This prayer is never known to fail. It is to be said for 3 consecutive days. Publication on granting of the favour must be promised and done. T.E.
PRECIOUS MOTHER OF JESUS
Mother of Devine Grace, You can find a way where there is no way, please hear my prayer and grant my request. Amen. Say 6 times a day for 3 days.
J.T.
THE MIRACLE PRAYER
Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours.
This time I ask you this special one, (mention fa vour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen.
Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. M.K.
