Joe will give a short talk on the history of butter making and its importance to the economy of Kerry along with a couple of sto ries from along the Butter Road. The book, with its 364 full col our pages and 315 images, maps and photos is described as “a search for the old days on a sixty-mile journey through 275 years of time” is widely available.

CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS
CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY
Welcome to my weekly column and my Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while using DóTerra’s essential oils in our daily routine.
As a certified DóTerra essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help and support so many people and their families over the last three years on their es sential oil journey throughout North Kerry, West Limerick and beyond. I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind, the Mood and we are extremely fortunate to have a DóTerra bottling plant here in Ireland which is situated in Blarney, County Cork.
Cooking Meals with Essential Oils
This week the Listowel Food Fair takes place which is one of the longest and celebrated food festivals. Cooking, eating and drinking are such a natural part of our everyday lives so it will come as no surprise that essential oils are also useful in the kitchen.
Cooking with essential oils is a fun, simple way to enhance the flavor of food while providing you with all the internal health benefits each oil has to offer. How you use essential oils for cooking will depend on your own personal taste, what kind of food you are making, and which oil you are using.
For most Italian dishes, Basil, Rosemary, and Thyme are the perfect additions. They can either be added during the heating process on the stove, oven or slow pot cooker, or you can add them after. Because essential oils are so concentrated, you only need a drop or two!
In my kitchen Oregano is always used when cooking Spaghetti Bolognese or Lasagna using the toothpick method and Rosemary and Basil are always at hand when I’m cooking the Sunday roast. DóTerras Lemon essential oil is also lovely to add to any chicken dishes.
Adding Essential Oils to Your Beverages
Another way to internalize the benefits and taste of essential oils is through your beverages. For example, Lavender essential oil gives a refreshing flavor to lemonade, tea, or even warm milk.
For those of us trying to drink the required two liters of water every day and per haps find it challenging try adding a drop of Grapefruit, Wild Orange or Lemon essential oil for a revitalizing treat. Adding a drop of Lime or Peppermint to your favorite tipple is also very nice or simply add a few drops to a full cup of warm water, stir a few times, and enjoy!
I will be attending the Listowel Food Fair and will have a table on Sunday at the Craft Fair so should you wish to avail of any of dóTerras essential oils I will be delighted to support you.
DóTerras Essential Oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us with many of the following that we can experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Sup port, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity, Allergy Assist and so much more.
My Three – Way – Method to use dóTerra’s Essential Oils: Topically: Apply the oils onto your skin particularly on the pulse points and soles of the feet. Aromatically: Place two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffuse the oils in your home, classroom, office space, salons or other places of work and business. Internally: Add the oils to your favourite food, waters and drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue to support your body and mind.
For extra positivity and well-being, check out my Facebook page; Caroline’s Pod of Positivity where we have information and videos on all of DóTerra’s essential oils.
For more information or to purchase DóTerra’s essential oils you can reach me on the number below. To arrange a consultation or discuss using natural remedies for you and your fam ily I’d be delighted to support you on your journey with DóTerra’s essential oils.
Looking forward to meeting you on Sunday at Listowel Food Fair

PRESENTATION LISTOWEL’S SUCCESS IN DEBATING
The past week saw the return of the 2022/2023 Concern Schools’ Debate league with Presentation Listowel taking on Ballincollig Community School and emerging victorious.
Presentation Listowel sought off tough opposition from Ballincollig Community School in their first debate of the competition to ensure that the motion was defeated in what can only be described as a riveting debate. The Presentation girls valiantly opposed the motion “GMO foods are necessary in the fight to end world hunger”, impressively garnering all five available points from the debate. Both teams displayed powerful evidence to attest to both sides of the argu ment with excellent examples of refutation and rebuttals. But it was Pres Listowel who reigned supreme on the day and the motion was defeated by unanimous decision.

SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column
We are all feeling a chill in the air now and that’s probably acceptable this time of the year. So, you are probably turning up the heating more ,or putting on the extra layers of clothes to keep warm. This is also a time of year when our routines can change as the days are now shorter and the nights are longer.
So what kind of an impact does that have on your everyday life style?
You may be sitting down in front of the fire earlier in the evenings. You may not be as active as you previously were. You may find that you feel hungrier because the weather has got colder.
Sitting for longer…
Are you picking and nibbling mindlessly while watching TV ? Very often we can do most damage at this time rather than our mealtimes.
Tips Have something prepared like chopped fruit topped with flavoured yogurt. Have a low calorie bar or biscuit with the cup of tea. Take up hobby that will pass the night away.
Moving Less…
Now that the weather has got wetter, darker and colder it is less enticing to put your foot out side the door. We can always come up with a 1001 excuses but never a good enough reason
Tips Be active in the morning time instead of waiting until evening time. Make an arrangement to meet a friend to go for a walk, (less likely to cancel) Check out various online activities such as Dance, Keep fit etc (you can do this from the comfort of you own home)
Filling Foods…
It’s important also that we are eating the right kind of foods that will keep us warm on the inside too. Soup is great this time of the year as it’s hot, filling and biscuits don’t go well with it. It’s often referred to as the “Hug in a Mug”. Soup is ideal as a starter, a meal or as an inbetweener. There is no secret when it comes to making soup as anything goes. It’s a great way of using up all the vegetables you had bought with the best of intentions.
Tips You can always add in potatoes or pasta to thicken or add bulk to your soups. Try adding in some cooked chicken to make a filling meal of it. Batch cook soups, stews and casseroles in advance and freeze.

NORTH KERRY FOOTBALL
The Bernard O’Callaghan Memorial Championship in Association with McMunns Bar & Restaurant Ballybunion. Eamon O’Donoghue Memorial Cup has been up and running for the last two weeks and on Saturday last 22nd October Ballylongford were defeated by current Champions Castleisland Desmonds who are bidding for a three in a row at the local field. While our seniors were defeated quite heavily on the scoreboard they worked and played well as a unit showing wonderful passages of football at times and that is very hearting despite what the score line may suggest. So as the players now sadly end their season in Senior Football they should not take this recent defeat badly, but instead take solace from it and try and improve in areas of their game that need to be ad dressed, and look forward to new horizons in the coming year of 2023. The effort and hard work of the team officials must not be overlooked also, and great credit is extended to Mossie O’Connor, Sean Sheehy, Kevin Mangan and Michael Higgins in their first year in charge for their efforts and hard work over the year. Desmonds on the other hand must be admired and are now in strong con tention to once again regain their title and in their bid for three in a row. Our neighbours St Mary’s Asdee also put in a splendid performance on Sunday last as they ran Finuge to a single point at Walsh Park Asdee. The draw for the Bernard O Callaghan Senior Championship Quarter Finals sponsored by Mcmunn’s Ballybunion was made on Sunday 23rd October last in Coolard Club Rooms and the following are the pairings Desmonds v Finuge, Tarbert v Duagh, Emmets v Knocknagoshel and Beale v Brosna these games will be played on or before 13th November.

U21 Hurling: On the playing fields at the weekend our u21 hurlers, although short a number of players through injury, acquit ted themselves well and had a good win over Lixnaw. Ballyduff started brightly but the concessions of four goals in the second quarter left them trailing 4 – 7 to 1 – 11 at the break. In the second half they played some brilliant hurling and goals from “Man of the Match”, Anthony Kavanagh put them ahead. Lixnaw rallied but frees from sharpshooter Aodhain Curley tied the scores in a welter of excitement. Extra time was played and Ballyduff were quickly into their stride and a goal from substitute Seán Lucid sent us on our way and we ran out winners on a score line of Bally duff 4 - 27 (39pts) Lixnaw 5 – 17 (32pts). Ballyduff now meet either Abbeydorney or Ballyheigue in the final in a couple of weeks’ time.

Fógra from Councillor Mike Kennelly to state that N67 pavement overlay works will be starting from the Car Ferry terminal and going towards Tarbert. He also advises that two sections of footpath will be completed next year at Doonard Crescent.
‘TARBERT’S SAD DEMISE’
The recent Kerryman front page headline on ‘Tarbert’s sad Demise’ was the big talking point locally over the past cou ple of weeks. To paraphrase Mark Twain the rumours of our demise are very much exaggerated. Mike Carrig, Tieraclea articulated very well in his letter of 10 October how Tarbert is very much alive with various active social, cultural and recreational groups in the parish. The closure of the Gala Shop / Filling Station was indeed a blow to the community as indeed is the loss of any business in a small rural com munity. This has been the trend in recent years with rising energy, insurance, rates, operating costs and declining footfall. Central and local government need to help small business enterprises more as these are the lifeblood of a community. At local level it is up to us where possible to support our own local business outlets, we either use them or lose them!
TARBERT ACTIVE RETIREMENT (OVER 55’S)

Our lads held a 3-point lead going into the closing minutes but Asdee threw everything they could at us and had Finuge holding on for the slimmest of victories at the end. Final score read Finuge 1-08 to Asdee’s 0-10. The quarterfinal draw was made later Sunday evening in Coolard and Finuge came out of the hat again Castleis land - a tough encounter indeed!
U13: Last Sunday the big day finally arrived as our U13s lined out for the NK Championship final and the chance to lift the Tommy Madden Cup! Played in perfect conditions, our boys got off to a really bright start and were 6 points to no score up after about 15 minutes. Listowel came storming back with an excellent goal. Our boys responded with a goal of their own and a point with Listowel adding two to make it at halftime Finuge 1-07 to Listowel’s 1-02. The second half got off to the perfect start for Finuge with an early goal and really from here onwards, controlled the game. Listowel battled right to the very end and had a number of goal chances that our backs bravely defended. When ref Mike Hennessy blew for fulltime our lads were very deserving winners on the score line Finuge 3-09 to Listowel’s 2-05. Daithí Laide was captain and ac cepted the trophy on behalf of the team, along with collecting the man of the match award. It was back to the clubrooms for food and treats and plenty of celebrations. This brings the curtain down on the U13 action for this year and what a year this team has had! They won the county league division 4, North Kerry league division 1, U14 Super Touch division 2 and now the U13 North Kerry Championship. A well-deserved rest is now on the cards for players and

TimmyTommy Madden u13 championship Final
As usual Coolard was the venue for this much anticipated final between Finuge and Listowel. The weather was excellent, the playing surface likewise which meant the massive attendance were treated to a very good game of football. Finuge got off to be better start when captain Daithi Laide put over a free Jamie Breen added another excellent point from play moment’s later. Finuge continued to dominate the early exchanges and pressure on the Listowel de fence resulted in two frees both put over by centre forward Joseph McElligott.
Further pressure on Listowel meant Finuge with two further points from Daithi Laide and a brilliant point by Matthew OFlaherty had Finuge leading 6 points to no score. Listowel though by the 10th minute were beginning to get a grip on the game. The Finuge keeper Finn Daughton pulled off a good save and when it broke back out it was cleared to safety but Listowel recovered pos session and centre forward Ajay Barrett burst through the Finuge defence and sent an unstoppable shot into the top left hand corner of the Finuge net. oseph McElligott responded soon after with another top class point for Finuge . Listowel kept in touch when Ajay Barrett put over from a free. Listowel were now playing much better and the Finuge back line were called into action on a few occasions when their goal was threatened. Finuge having weathered a Listowel storm struck for a goal by corner forward Eoin Commane who latched onto a ball sent in by Joseph McElligott. Timmy Kennelly replied with a point for Listowel leaving the half time score Finuge 1. 07 Listowel Emmets 1.02
On the restart Finuge captain Daithi Laide hit the back of the Listowel net in side the first minute. Minutes later Timmy Kennelly replied with a point for Listowel from a free. Listowel keeper Ciaran Moriarty pulled off a great double save to deny Finuge another certain goal. In fact Listowel keeper Conor Mori arty also produced a few other great saves during the game to keep his team in contention. Mason Sheehy Elston put over for Listowel on the 7th minute of the second half . Unfortunately for Listowel the Finuge corner forward Cody Walsh hit them for a goal and a point inside of a minute to rock them back on their heels but the Listowel boys refused to surrender and continuous pressure resulted in a penalty which centre forward Ajay Barrett expertly converted. Jamie Breen replied with a Finuge point. Mikey Henigan put over a point for Listowel in the final moments but it was to be Finuges day when they captured the Tommy Madden u13 championship title for the first time after losing out to Ballyduff in last year’s final. Finuge were that little bit stronger throughout and were deserving winner’s over a gallant, determined Listowel Emmets team.
After the game presentations were made by members of the Madden Family to the referee Mike Hennessey Ballyduff. Well done to him and his full team of officials. Further presentations were made to the management of both sides. Man of the match for the Listowel side was Ajay Barrett with Finuges Daithi Laide their man of the match.

All pro ceeds go to Crumlin Hospital Supporters of both sides were treated to beautiful food also on the day. Numerous photos of previous winning team’s adorned the entrance into the pitch.
Jason Foley presented the man of the match award to Finuge’s Daithi Laide on what was a very special occasion for everyone involved.
Ribbands were also given out to supporters on the day marking mental wellbeing and that’s just a reminder to all of us that our mental health is a very important part of life as is our physical health . Thanks to Ballydonoghue GAA and the Madden Family for again hosting a fantastic occasion. Without doubt as today proved again There is no better under age Final in the Country never mind the County. A credit to all and a privilege to be part of it again. Well done Finuge. Hard Luck Listowel Emmets.

North Kerry Championship Round 1 Castleisland Desmonds 7-20 -v- Ballylongford 0-9
It has been a very successful year for the Castleisland Desmonds footballers having already secured promotion to Division 1 of the Credit Union County League; McCarthys Insurance Division 1 North Kerry League along with the club now bidding for a three in a row of North Kerry Championships and cer tainly they served a real statement of intent to remaining opponents; when
disposing of a weakened Ballylongford side in perfect underfoot conditions at O Rahilly Park on Saturday October last. They were full value for their victory as they used their physical advantage to the full. They hit an incredible 7-15 from play; had 12 different players on the scoreboard and played at a pace that their North Kerry rivals simply could not keep up with.Brian Leonard who excelled at midfield all through got the opening score in the second minute and a minute later Cian W. O Connor hit the net. This was certainly not the start Bally needed against the firm favourites not alone to win here but to take the Eamon O Donoghue Cup at a later date. In fairness Bally against all the odds tried hard and Cian O Connor who was without doubt their most impressive attacker; he got their opening point after 13mts.The Islanders though went on a scoring spree kicking some excellent points from all angles as the home side could only look and admire. Jack Mulvihill and Paddy O Neill kicked points but Castleisland men finished with a florish with goals coming from Adam O Donoghue with the first of his 4 goals and Cian J O Connor and at the break it was Castleisland Desmonds 2-12 Ballylongford 0-4. On resumption it contin ued with Desmonds in total command. Again Bally didn’t go down easily and enjoyed a little possession but could not turn these few attacks into scores.
Luke Lyons and Adam O Donoghue added goals and at the three quarter stage Castleisland led by 4-16 to o-7. The remainder of the game petered out with further scores from Desmonds and as they did at the end of the opening half 3 goals came in a 4mt spell from Adam O Donoghue, Patrick Hickey,(2).
This was a dazzling performance from Desmonds who gave a masterclass performance with everybody including impressing. Fair enough Bally had a bad day at the office and will have to rebuild but just picking a few players who looked the part was Jermiah Tydings, Cian O Connor, Michael Holly, Sean Hanrahan and Michael McEllistrim. Teams and scorers;, Desmonds, Stephen Bartlett, Gearoid Leonard, Maurice Lynch, Luka Brosnan, 3pts, Dominic Finne gan, Denis O Connor, 1pt, Michael Walsh, 2pts, Maurice Hickey, Brian Leonard, 2pt, Luke Lyons, 1-1, W C O Connor, 1-2, P J Curtin 1pt, Sean Lynch, 1pt, Adam O Donoghue, 4-1, Cian J O Connor, 1pt.
