CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS

CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY

Welcome to my weekly column and my Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while using DóTerra’s essential oils in our daily routine.

As a certified DóTerra essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help and support so many people and their families over the last three years on their essential oil journey throughout North Kerry, West Limerick and beyond. I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind, the Mood and we are extremely fortunate to have a DóTerra bottling plant here in Ireland which is situated in Blarney, County Cork.

Gym Bag Essentials!

This week I want to share some of the oils that may be of benefit to you in your gym bag whether you work out a few times a week or practically live at the gym!

Deep Blue Rub – is a topical cream that provides comfort to prob lem areas for all sports men and women. The essential oils in this blend comforts and cools joints and muscles. Wintergreen, Camph hor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang are just some of the blends which work together to provide a sensation of cooling and warmth, especially after an intense workout. You can apply it to the back of the legs, feet, and back. It can also be rubbed on to the fingers, wrists, shoulders and into the neck area after a long workday. Deep Blue is also available in an essential oil and comes as one of the Top 10 essential oils in both the Family Essentials and Home Essentials Kits.

Air – a top favourite, this minty invigorating blend has a calming and soothing effect when applied to the body topically. Air is enriched with a combination of oils meant to help cool and enliven the body, provid ing you with feelings of clear airways. My top tip is to combine a few drops of this oil with Epsom salts in a warm bath for a soothing sensa tion or add three drops to the shower floor tray.

OnGuard Sanitising Mist – We are all know the protecting power of dóTerras OnGuard oil blend and the wonders it does for us in helping our families and homes with environmental threats. The sanitising mist purifies the hands by eliminating 99.9 per cent of bacteria and other germs on the skin through a fine quick drying mist. This is an absolute essential for all gym bags.

DóTerras Essential Oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us with many of the following that we can experience from time to time, such as: Anxi ety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity, Allergy Assist and so much more.

My Three – Way – Method to use dóTerra’s Essential Oils: Topically: Apply the oils onto your skin particularly on the pulse points and soles of the feet. Aromatically: Place two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffuse the oils in your home, classroom, office space, salons or other places of work and business. Internally: Add the oils to your favourite food, waters and drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue to support your body and mind.

For extra positivity and well-being, check out my Facebook page; Caroline’s Pod of Positivity where we have information and videos on all of DóTerra’s essential oils.

For more information or to purchase DóTerra’s essential oils you can reach me on the number below. To arrange a consultation or to dis cuss using natural remedies for you and your family I’d be delighted to support you on your journey with DóTerra’s essential oils.

I leave you with a thought for the week; ‘Let today be the start of something new’

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well

The term “self-care” has come to mean so much more than spa days and yoga classes. The point of self care is to do something for you—anything that leaves you feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

The real question is.... Why is self care so important for us all ?

It’s so important to make sure we take care of our body, mind and soul every day and not just when we get sick. Taking good care of ourselves involves making the right food choices, reducing your stress levels, being regularly active and making some “Me Time“. These are some key areas to self care to keep you healthy, fit and resilient.

So the next question is why do we often fail when it comes to self care? Most of us are crazy busy, have stressful jobs or spend too much time with technology to make time for ourselves. “Me Time“ is usually last on the agenda.

What kind of an impact does lack of self care have on you?

* Leave you feeling tired or worn out.

* You often make poor food choices.

* It can also leave you feeling negative about many things especially yourself.

* Your self esteem and confidence can be low.

* No motivation to achieve your goals.

So if one or all of the above apply to you at anytime the next question is, How can you turn things around?

Eat right for self-care. The food we eat has the potential to either keep us healthy or con tribute to weight gain or diseases such as diabetes, but it can also keep our minds working and alert. Eating the right foods can help prevent memory loss and inflammation, both of which can have long-term effects on the brain and, in turn, the rest of the body.

Exercise daily as part of your self-care routine. We all know exercise is good for us. Daily exercise can help you both physically and mentally, boosting your mood and reducing stress and anxiety, not to mention helping you shed extra weight. Of course, it might be hard to go to the gym every day, so try to incorporate other exercises, such as walking, tennis, or yoga, which may be able to fit into your schedule more easily. The most important thing is to create a routine that works for you.

Make sleep part of your self-care routine. Sleep can have a huge effect on how you feel both emotionally and physically. It is important to try and get 6 to 8 hours quality sleep at night and also it’s especially important to stay away from caffeine and sugar, which tend to keep you awake .Try to avoid the habit of using technology or devices in bed.

Say no to others, and say yes to your self-care. Learning to say no is really hard; many of us feel obligated to say yes when someone asks for our time or energy. But once you learn how to politely say no, you’ll start to feel more self confident, and you’ll have more time for your self-care.

Take care of yourself by getting organized. Getting organized is often the first step to becoming a healthier you, because it allows you to figure out exactly what you need to do to take better care of yourself.

Schedule your self-care time, and guard that time with everything you have. It can be hard for us all to find extra time. But it’s extremely important to plan regular self-care time. Moments alone can help you to ponder the best ways to move forward in your life and keep you grounded. And moments with friends can help you feel more connected and relaxed. First and foremost reading through this weekly column is another step of self care on your Weight loss and Wellness journey.

MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS

November, the Month of the Holy Souls The Catholic Church sets aside November which begins with All Saints Day and All Souls Day, as the Month of the Holy Souls. During the month of November, we are encouraged to pray for those who have gone before us, family and friends. However, it does not end there for we are asked also to pray for those who may have no one to pray for them. In this way, we are joined to oth ers in the Christian family and reminded that we are a wide community united in our belief in Jesus and his Resurrection. Those in purgatory cannot pray for themselves but one day they may be able to pray for us when we are in the same position. Perhaps this is why Pope St John XXIII wrote the following words “The devotion to the memory of the dead is one of the most beautiful expressions of the Catholic spirit.” Also visiting cemeteries is a significant way we can devote ourselves to the Holy Souls this November. Beginning with our own deceased family members and friends, visiting their graves is an opportunity for reflection and meditation. Per sonal offerings, such as candles and flowers, or just keeping the family plot clean and tidy also gives us an opportunity in keeping our graves in check so why not make a visit even once a week during the coming month.

CÚRSAI CURSÁLA

Fógra from Sean Enright; Listowel Coursing Club, considering the recent inclement weather, com pleted its three- day event in perfect weather conditions. John Flynn’s Howdylittlelady was well contested by Ballyhimikinmoll in the final of the Jet and Eamonn O’Carroll Memorial Cup but the Tarbert owned and trained bitch appeared to be in control throughout and she won by a length. The highlight of the weekend’s sport was the John Prendiville Memorial Cup. John, in his day, was an icon on the coursing fields of Ireland and a leader of the sport and it is lovely to hon our his memory in such fashion. In an exciting final Ballymac Tudor whose kennels have seen many recent successes went up against Sammy Be which is locally trained by the O’Connor fam ily of Saleen. The two dogs were neck and neck the whole way up the field and all in attendance waited in anticipation to see the judge raise the white flag to declare Sammy Be the winner. This was a thrilling conclusion to the 117th. Annual Meeting of Listowel Coursing Club

BALLWALL AND ASTRO TURF FACILITY

The winter has announced its arrival and the matches/ games on the sportsfield have ceased for this season but a new lease of life has been heralded for the players and members of the club with the “Opening” of our new development on Sunday. It was a wonderful sight to see young and old alike, some running, some walking around the splendid AstroTurf facility. A development which began in mid-July has been completed and is ready for use. It should be a tremendously beneficial resource for the club and the entire community now and in the future.

The Development Committee, club personnel and club members who contributed to an idea/ proposal progress ing through the many phases until it became a reality are to be commended. The club are very grateful for the generous support of the Car Raffle last year spearheaded by the Development Fundraising Committee. They are

also very grateful for the assistance received in secur ing €150,000 funding grant through the Sports Capital Funding Scheme and the €80,000 grant which we are receiving by way of Leader (NKWD).

LIXNAW COURSING CLUB

Within the parish of Lixnaw and further afield, young and old are mourning the very sad loss of Mike Quilter of ‘Bridewell’ fame. Mike is one of those characters you’d hate writing about because you’d worry about not prais ing him enough. Anyone who ever owned a greyhound would find it hard to drive through Lixnaw Village with out stopping at J.J’s where you’d find Mike behind the Butcher’s counter by day or behind the counter of ‘Mike’s’ pulling pints at night.

If Mike knew you, the first question would be ‘were you coursing?’. Mike loved coursing and greyhounds more than most people you would know. He had a great mem ory for breeding and thoroughly enjoyed the sport. An ab solute gentleman and that doesn’t even go close to sum ming him up. He was an absolute peach of a man in every way and anyone who knew Mike was fortunate to have known an honest, sincere, dignified and hardworking gent. Rest in peace a Chara! To his brothers: Tommy, John, Francie and Willie; his sisters-in-law Joan, Noreen and Joan, nephews and nieces, his other family the Walsh’s and his great pal John Moynihan, Tralee who trained Mike’s greyhounds for years, our heartfelt condolences.

BEALE GAA

The curtains have come down on senior football for 2022. We succumbed to the challenges of Brosna in the quarter final of the North Kerry Senior Cham pionship on Sunday in Duagh. A repeat of last year, when Brosna were authors of our demise, too, at the quarter final stages.

Played in poor, wet conditions, the teams were evenly balanced in the first half and were level on two points after ten minutes. Little separated the teams on the field of play or on the scoreboard and we were just two points adrift at the short whistle, 0-8 to 0-6. While there was little between the teams, Brosna seemed that bit more threatening. Playing with the breeze, we would come to rue some missed scoring opportunities in the first half.

The teams exchanged points on the changeover, and both missed goal oppor tunities. We pulled them back to the bare minimum in the twentieth minute, but our opponents went ahead again as we missed close up frees. Brosna were guilty of missed chances too but went ahead by three as the clock ticked. We tried desperately to close the gap but ended on the wrong side of the score board, 0-10 to 0-12. An exciting game between two fairly evenly matched teams but Brosna just seemed to have that slight edge.

Beale lined out as: Seân Dee, Joe Finch, Fionnán Toomey (capt), Podge Holly, Conor Toomey, Jeremy King, Daithí Toomey, Robert Stack, Phillie Blake, Barry O’Neill, Ger O’Gorman, Bernard O’Callaghan, Ian Mannix, Darragh Buckley and Tom Joy. Substitutes, Seân Maloney for Daithí Toomey (inj), Barry O’Mahony for Ger O’Gorman (inj), Tommy O’Neill, John Griffin, Shane Joy, Diarmuid O’Mahony, Rory Mulvihill, Andrew O’Connor, Jack O’Sullivan, Barry Ryan, Dan iel Hayes and Philip Hornyak.

And so, ends our seniors’ year. We survived to live another year in Division 4 of the County League, conceded the semi-final of the North Kerry League, were defeated in the final the Novice Championship and lost out in the quarter final of the North Kerry Championship.

Our juniors play Desmonds B in North Kerry Intermediate Cup semi-final on Saturday, November 20th, at noon. Venue to be confirmed.

There was no jackpot winner in this week’s Beale Lotto which took place in The Bunker on Sunday night. There were 2 Match-3 winners, Mike Creed and Tommy Allen, who each won €50. Numbers drawn were 2, 4, 10 and 19. Next week’s jackpot is €2,050. The draw takes place on Sunday night in The Exchange at 9 o’clock. A huge ‘míle buíochas’ to everyone who supports and promotes the Beale Lotto.

Tickets, €2 each or 3 for a fiver, are available in Joyce’s Newsagents or in the local pubs. Play online by downloading the Clubforce app or simply click the link on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages or log onto https://clubforce. com/clubs/beale-gaa-kerry/. His sons, Billy and Maurice, did the club proud down the years. Solid in de fence, Billy played corner back for the Kerry minors in the mid-80s and starred with Beale into the1990s. Maurice too had an illustrious career in the green and red and played his part in the North Kerry Championship winning side of 2014. The tradition continued to the next generation as Sonny’s granddaughter, Jackie, donned the colours of Beale Ladies at under-age.

A skilled tradesman and carpenter, Sonny O’Connor was part of the team who built and developed our sportsfield in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Sonny advised on buildings and, on a voluntary basis, worked all his free time to com plete the dressing rooms and the stand, alongside his friends and comrades. Steeped in the history and traditions of Gaelic football, we are very grateful to Sonny for the many memories and photographs he shared with us for our book, Sand in our Boots. His memory lives on in the annals of Beale GAA Club. Ar dheis Dé gurb a anam dhíl.

FINUGE GAA

SENIOR; Our senior team took to the field last Saturday against a strong Castleisland Desmonds side in the North Kerry Championship sponsored by MacMunns of Ballybunion. The game was played in Stack Park Ballybunion and went along expected lines with the Desmonds leading from early stages, running out winners on the scoreline Finuge 0-05 to Castleislands 1-13. This brings the curtain down on the year for the senior team. Thank you to the play ers, management and everyone involved in what was a busy year.

SAM MAGUIRE: Our old friend came to visit recently and a great night was had in McCarthy’s Bar to welcome him! Garry O’Sullivan was MC on the night where we heard from the Kerry backroom team. Our own Jimmy Galvin and Christy Killeen of course were involved in Jack’s Army and we also heard from Arthur Fitzgerald, Colm Whelan, Brendan Griffin and Paudie McQuinn. These are the men behind the scenes that make it all possible and it made from great listening to hear their stories. Jimmy Deenihan gave us some insight into Kerry of old and tied together the current scene with days gone by. Our club Chair man Eamon Breen was honoured on the night to mark 25 years since he won the All Ireland and an All Star with the Kingdom. Great fun was had on the night with a raffle and great prizes along with music from DJ Tony! Thank you to our raffle sponsors McCarthys Bar, Kathleen Foley, Stacks Londis, Gibbons Filling Station and Cronins Cider. We hope that Sam will make a return visit again to the club quite soon!

NORTH KERRY GAA

Castleisland Desmonds 1.13 v Finuge 0.05

Firm favourites beforehand Castleisland Desmonds continued their North Kerry Championship campaign with another impressive performance and were assured of success from a long way off by defeating Finuge who in fair ness battled to the final whistle;did have a good share of possession but never threatened when it came to the scoring stakes; but i’m afraid they were always playing second fiddle to the Islanders who are a step nearer now and will fancy their chances in completing that 3-in-a-row of titles. Played at Stack Park Bal lybunion the pitch was in perfect condition despite the terrible amount of rain that fell. Castleisland played with that slight breeze in the opening half and were quick to get the scoreboard ticking over with Cian J O O’Connor lofting over; however Finuge were quick to reply with former Kerry footballer Pat Cor ridan splitting the posts but that was to be as near as they got to the Islanders as they took over with some superb points coming from. Brian Leonard, (2) Adam O Donoghue, (2), Cian J O Connor, Graham O Connor, (2), having them well at the break with Pat Corridan and Darragh Shannon only Finuge reply; leaving the score at the break; Castleisland Desmonds, 0-9 to Finuges 0-3. On the restart Finuge had a lot of work to do and in fairness winning a good share of possession they were either turned over by the Castleisland defence and any rare attack on goal came to nothing. Brian Leonard and Maurice Hickey were always to the fore at midfield but Pat Corrida and Johnny Buckley gave good service.Graham O Connor kicked his 3rd free of the game after 4 minutes before Adam O Donoghue, Brian Leonard, added to the scoresheet by the 10th minute. Colin Sheehy got one back for Finuge along with substitute Keltyn Molloy who were trying very hard to break down a solid Desmonds defence. Still 10mts or so to go and it turned out to be all one way traffic as Desmonds added a further 1-1 to their tally. Substitute Kieran Brennan kicked a neat point while Luke Lyons drove an unstoppable piledriver past Finuge keeper Martin Stackpoole. Overall not the most enjoyable game to watch but the bet ter team were streets ahead of their opponents. Teams and Scorers; Desmonds, Stephen Bartlett, Gearoid Leonard, Luke Curtin, Luka Brosnan, Dominic Finne gan, Denis O Connor, Michael Walsh, Maurice Hickey, Brian Leonard, 2pts,

Graham O Connor, 3pts, Fs, Patrick Hickey, Luke Lyons, 1-1, Sean Lynch, Adam O Donoghue, 3pts, Cian J O Connor, 2pts. Subs; Kieran Brennan, 1pt for Patrick Hickey, Colm Roache for Luke Curtin, Fintan O Sullivan for Sean Lynch, Conor O Shea for Michael Walsh. Finuge; Martin Stackpoole, Neilus Mackessy, Tom Foley, Aidan O Brien, Declan McCarthy, Conor O Keeffe, Darragh Shannon, 1pt, Maurice Corridan, Johnny Buckley, Colin Sheehy, 1pt P{at Corridan, 2ptsShane Conway, Liam O Brien, Darragh Mackessy, Jason Wallace. Subs; Keltyn Molloy, 1pt, Christen Griffin for Aidan O Brien. Referee, Joe Murphy, Ballyduff.

Tarbert 1.15 v Duagh 0.06

Venue was O’Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on what was a mild afternoon for the North Kerry Championship.

After 8 minutes of play Gérard O Sullivan opened the score line for Tarbert. This was not due to the great efforts of Donnacha Mahar who was simply a power house for Duagh, he never gave up and powered on throughout the game. The second score of the game came again from Gérard O Sullivan in the 15th minute. Killian Buckley Duagh scored the first point for Duagh after 16 minutes of play, quickly followed by another point from Cillian Langan.

With ten minutes left to half time, Tarbert 0.03, Duagh 0.02. Jack Moloney and Seanain O Caoimh played their defense role well, but with Cillian Langan putting another over from a free in the 25th minute. The half time score stood at Tarbert 0.06 Duagh 0.01.

After a minute of the second half Patsy O Connell pointed for Tarbert, with a greatly preticited ball from Mark Buckely. Duagh responded with a point from Aaron O Connor. Duagh were issued with a black card which resulted in Duagh playing 14 against a strong physical side from Tarbert. Cillian Lanagan again converted another point for Tarbert , leaving them now ahead by 6 points. Tarbert 0.08 Duagh 0.02.

Killian Buckley Duagh scored for Duagh, again followed by Tarbert. Through out this quarter final, Tarbert displayed a great team effort and played with assurance. Gérard O Sullivan scored a goal for Tarbert which would decide their spot in the Semi final Draw. Duagh had a never give up attitude and fought hard throughout. Tarbert proved stronger on the day and from start to finish they looked strong throughout. The game finished on a score line

Tarbert 1.15 Duagh 0.05.

Coiste na nOg U15 Division 1 Championship Final Report by Maurice Mannix - Listowel Emmets 0.06 v Ballyduff 1.11

The curtain came down on the North Kerry Coiste na Nog year with the meet ing of Ballyduff and Listowel Emmets . Weather conditions were ideal as was the playing surface in Moyvane.

Listowel were first to score with a point on the third minute from play by midfielder Trevor Chute. It was the 10th minute before the next score came and that was an excellent point from Jack Segal for Ballyduff. Straight after Jake Rochford for Ballyduff hit the crossbar with Listowel keeper Harry Reidy beaten. That began a purple patch for Ballyduff with further points by Jack Enright (2) and Callum Carey Sheehy (2) to give Ballyduff a lead of 5 points to 1. Listowels next score came on the 19th minute with a point by Dylan Toomey after a great run along the end line by midfielder Trevor Chute. Ballyduff re plied immediately through Jack Enright and again that began another scoring

burst by Ballyduff with further points by Callum Carey Sheehy, Jake Rochford and Jake Segal to put Ballyduff into an 8 point to 2 lead approaching half time. Listowel steadied the ship with points by Daniel Shine from play and an Oisin Mulvihill free. The last score of the half was by Ballyduffs Jake Rochford to leave 5 points between the team’s at half time.

Ballyduff 0.09 Listowel Emmets 0.04

Scores in the second half were more sporadic but again it was Ballyduff who increased their lead with a point by Jake Rochford after a well taken mark. Jack Enright added another from play. Unfortunately for Listowel it wasn’t

until the 18th minute of the second half before they got their first points both coming from frees by Oisin Mulvihill. Listowel continued to attack but couldn’t penetrate the Ballyduff defence with both corner backs Reece O’Connor and John Curtin outstanding. As the game approached full time Ballyduff struck for goal when corner forward Fionn Houlihan sent an unstoppable shot to the Listowel net with the keeper Harry Reidy having no chance. Moments later referee Tadgh Murphy Duagh blew the full time whistle to give Ballyduff a well deserved North Kerry Division 1 Championship title on a frnal score of… Ballyduff 1. 11 Listowel Emmets 0.06

Ballyduffs victory was gained by a far greater spread of fine individual dis plays by Reece O’Connor ,John Curtin, Jake Rochford, Jake Segal, Callum Carey Sheehy and Jack Enright. Listowel were best served by midfielders John Car mody, Trevor Chute and Oisin Mulvihill upfront. Coiste na Nog Chairman Sean McCarthy Castleisland Desmonds presented the shield to Ballyduffs winning captain Michael Houlihan.

Thanks again to referee Tadgh Murphy (Duagh) and his officials on an excel lent job. The Moyvane club for the use of the excellent pitch to round off an outstanding North Kerry Coiste na Nog year with so many excellent games in all under age competitions. Thanks again to everyone who helped in anyway to the running of the leagues and championships.
