CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS
CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY
Welcome to my weekly column and my Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while using DóTerra’s essential oils in our daily routine.
As a certified DóTerra essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help and support so many people and their families over the last three years on their es sential oil journey throughout North Kerry, West Limerick and beyond. I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind and the Mood. This week I bring you one of DóTerra’s top essential oils which act as a Natural Antibiotic – OREGANO!
Oregano has powerful cleansing properties that support our immune, respirato ry, and digestive systems. It has been used for centuries by the ancient Greeks for its taste and health benefits and is often referred to as ‘The Big Gun’ or ‘The Oil of Humility’. Oregano is a natural antibiotic and anti-inflammatory and is most popularly used for immune support. It is one of the Top 10 essential oils included in both the Family Essentials & Home Essentials Kits from Caroline’s Pod of Positivity. It offers powerful antioxidants and is distilled from the fragrant leaves of the Mediterranean herb.
Oregano is known to ease whooping cough, kill ringworm, treat athlete’s foot, candida, fungal infections, inflammation, carpel tunnel pain and arthritis, mus cle aches/pain, nasal polyp, warts and so much more. There is amazing healing power to be found in this dóTerra oil and it comes in a 15ml size bottle that contains 285 x drops of pure, neat and unadulterated essential oil.
Since Oregano is a ‘spice oil’ or ‘hot oil’ you may find it hard to drink it in water, however you can take it internally by putting one or two drops into a veggie capsule. I would recommend using it in your recipes when cooking and it is a top favourite in our house for any Pasta, Soup or Bolognese dishes. Oregano was a hot topic with food lovers at my Pod Table at the recent Listowel Food Fair Festival. This oil can be applied topically to the skin when blended with a carrier oil or added to a roller bottle with a mixture of other oils from the Family Essential Kit or Home Essential Kit to support your immunity, health and wellbeing. It can also be added to a cold-water diffuser to allow it to get airborne in your home, office, classroom or work space.
Oregano is one of the essential oils I will be using over the next few weeks as the weather is changing and I will have it pre-blended in a roller bottle with OnGuard, Lemon, Lavender, Melaleuca and Frankincense to support the Im mune System against seasonal threats. These oils mentioned are also part of the Family Essential and Home Essential Kits which are a great investment for health. As a family we always make sure to carry our Roller Bottles in the school bags, handbag, golf bag, and we apply them behind the ears, the back of the neck and on to our wrist points. If you still wear a face mask out and about or in your place of work you can apply the oils to the inside of the face mask.
These oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us with many of the following that we can experi ence from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity, Allergy Assist and so much more.
Caroline’s Three – Way – Method To Use DóTerra’s Essential Oils:
Topically: Apply the oils onto your skin particularly on the pulse points and soles of the feet. Aromatically: Place two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffuse the oils in your home, classroom, office space, salons or other places of work and business. Internally: Add the oils to your favourite food, waters and drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue to support your body and mind.
For extra positivity and well-being, check out my Facebook page; Caroline’s Pod of Positivity where we have information and videos on all of DóTerra’s essential oils.
For consultations and appointments you can reach me on the number below to ar range a time / date that suits you and to gether we will start you on your journey with DóTerra’s essential oils.
Have a gentle week.

SHRONOWEN WIND FARM
This is the latest in the long list of wind farms approved by an bord Pleanala in North Kerry, but this one is very different - there were more submissions to an Bord Pleanala from State agencies than from the public. Could the public not be aware of this application, the closest yet to Listowel, 6Km North?
Kerry County Council made a comprehensive submission to an Bord Pleanala concluding “The planning authority has significant reservations regarding the conclusion reached in the EIAR and strongly recommends that permission be refused for the proposed development.” Issues quoted by Kerry county council included,
• 1,458 dwellings within 5 kilometres of the wind farm
• Shadow flicker will impact 25 dwellings and is not acceptable
• Close to the Wild Atlantic Way
• Over 200,000 cubic metres of bog will be excavated.
• Hen harriers, whooper swans, bats and other protected species frequent the site
The National Parks and Wildlife Service, Irish Water, Inland Fisheries and even the Depart ment of Local Government, Housing and Heritage all voiced serious concerns. Will our local authority or any of the other 18 Prescribed Bodies invited by an Bord Pleanala to make a submission to the original application now seek to take a Judicial Review?
APPROACH ROAD GETS A FACE-LIFT
Listowel Tidy Towns would like to acknowledge and thank, the organising committee of the Barn Dance held in Feburary 2019 for their contribution of €3,500, which went towards the complete revamping of the large planted area on the Tarbert Approach in Cahirdown. Originally the funds raised from The Barn Dance was going to go towards the cost of a van for Listowel Tidy Towns Group. In light of rising costs and difficulties in insurance and other running costs, it was decided, with the blessing of the Barn Dance Committee, to use the very generous proceeds raised, on a rather jaded planted area at Cahirdown. This was one of the first projects undertaken by Listowel Tidy Towns in 1994 on one of the most important approach roads into Listowel.
Listowel Tidy Towns would like to thank the Barn Dance Committee of Martin McCarthy, Sean Costello, Marina Bourke and Aiden O Connor fro their initiative and contribution. Their generios ity has made it possable to allow us to greatly enhance this entrance into our beautiful town. Picture shows Cllr Jimmy Moloney, Julie Gleeson & Mary O’Hanlon of Listowel Tidy Towns. Martin McCarthy & Sean Costello of the Barn Dance Committee, Brendan Lynch who cleared & prepared the area for planting & Horticulturist Emmett Kelly who along with his mom Kerry Brazell of Listowel Garden Centre, designed & planted the area with pollination friendly plants.

SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well
This week we are going to focus on how important it is for you and your wellbeing to keep yourself accountable to your commitment to feel and look better especially now as Christ mas is approaching. There are many areas where accountability plays a big part in your weight loss and wellness journey. So, let’s break them down and ask yourself are you actu ally ticking all the boxes.
It’s you not me...
Very often you can blame others for “making” you eat or drink something you actually hadn’t planned on having which can very often be the start of the slippery slope that we are all familiar with. For example your feelings and emotions could be responsible for your actions to eat mindlessly and yet you could point the finger of blame at someone else. So maybe it’s time to recognise that you need to take the reigns of responsibility into your own hands, as after all it’s only you will carry the implications of your actions around with you let it be in your mind or your body.
There will always be occasions when we do want to have that little bit of relaxation to have the treat without the after taste of the guilt. These would be occasions like a day out, a meal out, a mini staycation or an office get together. Blaming others for our actions is an easy way of letting ourselves “ off the hook “ for our own accountability. Your choices are your decisions. Always remember when you point the finger at someone else remem ber there are still four fingers pointing back at YOU.
Accountability
Accountability is all about keeping records.
It is a proven fact when you keep an account of what you eat and drink you are more aware and mindful of your calorie intake. By keeping a track of your calories you are less likely to “forget” the little things that can all add up in the end. Keeping track of your daily foods can be done in different ways, it’s all about finding the way that works for you . Some people may like to keep a track record on their phone while others may prefer to put pen to paper and write it down, Whichever works will work No guessing ,No messing !!
Being accountable to somebody else with your weight other than yourself is very important also as we do tend to leave ourselves off the hook quite easily at times. By doing this you are making a commitment not alone to yourself but to somebody else also. “It will be a weight off your mind“. So that is another reason why San Rita Wellness works so well for our members as they check in weekly with us.
Mini Goals
Setting yourself a mini goal will keep you mindful and in the loop when you do feel like you may be inclined to throw complete caution to the wind. Having that mini goal in mind will help you to get back on track again so as not to cause too much damage overall Keeping a weekly record of your mini goals can help your motivation and commitment to stick with it and know that it will be worth it. Remember the saying “ Slow progress is better than No progress “
You may set yourself a goal by deciding to lose five to seven pounds at a time or maybe seeing a lower number on the scales. It could be an item of clothing that is a little bit too tight at the moment that you would like for it to fit better or maybe you would like to be able to reach for a size down in the clothes rail next time you buy yourself something whether it’s online or in the shops. Now picture that in your mind and think how great that would feel.
Motivation
We are all different and it takes different things to encourage us to be more motivated. For some it can be the number on the scales or the clothes fitting better. For more it could be looking forward to meeting up with family and friends over Christmas and wanting to look and feel our best.
By constantly reminding ourselves of whichever it is will help keep the motivation strong. So, remember the saying: To wake up with Motivation, Go to bed with Determination
For extra support and for weekly accountability check us out on Facebook San Rita Well ness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “At Home Service“ or our “One to One Service“. NB - Our weekly “In Person Meetings“ have reopened in Listowel Community Centre and Ballybunion Health and Leisure Centre every Wednesday .

THE MADNESS
By Fergal Keane
A MEMOIR OF WAR, FEAR AND PTSD
As a journalist Keane has covered conflict and brutality across the world for more than thirty years, from Rwanda, Sudan, South Africa, So malia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine and many more. Driven by an irresistible compulsion to be where the night is darkest, he made a name for reporting with humanity and empathy from places where death and serious injury were not abstractions, and tragedy often just a moment’s bad luck away. But all this time he struggled not to be overwhelmed by another story, his acute ‘complex post-traumatic stress disorder’, a condition arising from exposure to multiple instances of trauma experienced over a long pe riod. This condition has caused him to suffer a number of mental break downs and hospitalisations. Despite this, and countless promises to do otherwise, he has gone back to the wars again and again.
Why? In this powerful and intensely personal book, Keane interrogates what it is that draws him to the wars, what keeps him there and offers a reckoning of the damage done.
PTSD affects people from all walks of life. Trauma can be found in many places, not just war. Keane’s book speaks to the struggle of all who are trying to recover from injury, addiction and mental breakdown. It is a sur vivor’s story drawn from lived experience, told with honesty, courage and an open heart.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS FOR BALLYBUNION
We are starting a GoFundMe to help fund the cost of Christmas lights in Ballybunion. We estimate that the cost of funding for the Christmas lights to be in the region of 6,500 euro.
We in the Forum have been involved in the Christmas Lights programme for the last five years but we were forced to go to the townspeople through a GoFundMe appeal for the last number of years as we didn’t have a local funding stream since the Covid19 pandemic.
We have invested annually in a continuous replacement policy for the upgrading of the Town Lights due to the environment in town over the Christmas period. This is costly and requires continuous investment in the cables and bulbs. There is the ongoing cost of insurance, the hire of a cherry picker (Hoist), the cost of erecting the lights and trees, plus a legacy debt to the ESB (believed to be around €3,200), all of which must be covered.
The good news is that all the bulbs are now “Led’s” (Light Emitting Diods) and are more resilient and more cost effective to run so the electrical power drain is minimal and more economical.
We are initiating this GoFundMe appeal to the townspeople and businesses of Ballybunion. With this support Bal lybunion will have the Lights, seasonal appearance and Christmas Spirit as usual.

FR. PAT AHERN IS ONE OF OUR OWN A native of Leitrim Middle, a member of a very mu sical family and the man who had the vision to set up what is now known as National Folk Theatre of Ireland, “Siamsa Tire”. His new book called “Forging the Dance” is a history of his journey from small be ginnings, starting with the choir in St. John’s Church,
Tralee to Teach Siamsa in Finuge in 1974 and Carrig in the Kerry Gaeltacht in 1995. His journey finally led to the purpose
in 1991. Siamsa has played in theatres all over the world, from Tralee to the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, to Broadway. You could say Siamsa was the forerunner to Riverdance, it brought a new insight to Irish dance and song in the more traditional sense. Fr. Pat is still going strong. His legacy is testament to a man who saw no boundaries, a man who saw the opportunities and grabbed them with both hands. Congratulations to you, Fr. Pat, may you enjoy many more years of good health.

Bernard O Callaghan Senior Championship Sponsored by McMunns Bar and Restaurant Ballybunion Report by Maurice Mannix
Semi Final
Castleisland Desmonds 3.11 v Tarbert 1.11
Con Brosnan Park Moyvane was the host for the first of this year’s North Kerry Championship semi finals between Castleisland Desmonds and Tarbert. Both sides availed of the excellent weather and pitch conditions by providing an open game of football throughout. Castleisland were first off the mark with a point by midfielder Brian Leonard who was excellent throughout the game. Tarbert attacked at the other end and were desperately unlucky when corner forward Cillian Langan rattled the crossbar . Maurice Hickey put Castleisland 2 points up with a point from 40m. Tarbert replied with a point by Michael Hea phy who was afforded a lot of space down the right wing early in the game.
On the 7th minute the Tarbert keeper Pa Carmody was forced into emergency action when Pa Hickey ran along the end line and punched across to Adam Donoghue who got a fist to it forcing the keeper to parry over the bar. On the 9th minute came Tarberts second point from Mark Buckley. Soon after that Adam Donoghue found the back of the net for the first of Castleisland goals after a great ball in by Brian Leonard At the 18th minute mark Cillian Langan replied for Tarbert with a top class point from 45m out. Sean Lynch replied at the other end. On the 24th minute Cillian Langan got his second point from play for Tarbert . Wing forward for Castleisland Graham O’Connor kicked over from 40m. On the 29th minute of the first half Tarbert were hit with a second hammer blow when Castleisland centre back Denis O’Connor found himself in loads of space 13m out and he gave the Tarbert keeper no chance with a ground finish to the net. On the 4th minute of injury time a Cillian Langan free for Tarbert hit the upright rebounding into the hands of Gerald O’Sullivan but unfortunately for them he just got under the ball blasting it over the bar when a goal would have been a good physiological boost at the half time whistle. Half Time score Castleisland Desmonds 2.05 Tarbert 0.05.
In the second half Graham O’Connor began the scoring where he left off for Castleisland with an excellent point on the 4th minute. Brian Leonard and Adam Donoghue increased the lead with further points. Tarberts first point of the second half came on the 11th minute with a Cillian Langan free. Unfor tunately for Tarbert a minute later Brian Leonard put the game beyond them with the third goal for Castleisland after another run in along the end line by Pa Hickey and he punched across for Leonard to finish. Tarbert to their credit showed great character adding points from corner back Danny Wrenn and a 45m free from Gerard O’Sullivan Outstanding wing back for Castleisland Domi nic Finnegan added another point on the 25th minute followed by another Adam Donoghue point. In the 4 minutes of injury time Tarbert hit for a goal and two points. The first another excellent point from Cillian Langan who had a great game throughout. Danny Stack added another point and with time all but up Tarbert latched onto a poor kick out and Conor Flavin finished to the net to leave the full time score.
Castleisland Desmonds 3.11 Tarbert 1. 11.
Huge thanks to Moyvane who had the pitch in pristine condition and to referee Brendan Griffin Clounmacon and his officials. So Castleisland Desmonds march on to this year’s North Kerry Championship Final. They await the winners of next Sunday’s semi-final in Duagh between Brosna and Listowel Emmets. In fact Castleisland Desmonds will be going for 3 in a row on Sunday December 4th on North Kerry Final day.
Minor Championship Final

Report by Maurice Mannix
Division 1 Final - Listowel Emmets 0.13 v Ballyduff 1.08
Jack Walsh Park Asdee was the venue for this much anticipated final between Ballyduff and Listowel Emmets. A large crowd was present and they weren’t disappointed. Both teams fielded numerous County Minor Championship win ning player’s and an enthralling game of football was served up by both sides especially so in the first half.
Ballyduff made a dream start when a high ball in by Evan Boyle found Stefan Carrig inside the Listowel rearguard and from 10 yards gave Listowel keeper Jack Enright no chance with a well taken goal. A minute later supreme marks
man on the day Aaron Carey replied with the first of his 10 points with an excellent kick from 30yards out on the stand side. The opening exchanges were frantic with scores coming rapidly as both sides moved the ball quickly into the inside line’s giving Ballyduff their first point of the game by corner forward Luke Rochford. At the other end Aaron Carey was on hand to pop over another point . On the 7th minute Evan Boyle kicked a 45m free from the ground for Ballyduff after a foul on Luke Rochford. Listowel replied through midfielder Aaron Kennelly. Listowel followed up with 3 further unanswered points by Aaron Carey (2) 1(f) and Rob Heffernan. It took until the 17th minute for Ballyduffs next point with a free by Callum Carey Sheehy after a foul on Evan Boyle. At the other end John Carmody latched onto a ground ball for Listowel and sent the ball over the crossbar. From the resultant kick out Stefan Carrig responded with a Ballyduff point. Aaron Carey cancelled out for Listowel. With half time close again it was Ballyduff forward Stefan Carrig who did brilliantly to slip between 2 Listowel defender’s to fire over the bar. Not to be outdone Listowel closed the first half scoring with a point by Aaron Carey. Half Time score.
Listowel Emmets 0.09 Ballyduff 1.05
Scores in the second half were more sporadic even though the intensity and high football levels remained the same. A foul on Eddie Healy led to a point from a free on the 4th minute by Aaron Carey In fact Carey was Listowels only further scorer in this half. He had another pointed free on 9 minutes. It wasn’t until the 16th minute of the second half for Ballyduffs first point by Evan Boyle who equally was a his side’s only scorer in this half. On 22 minutes Aaron Carey from play had another point. Evan Boyle responded with 2 further points from frees for Ballyduff. With full time getting close Aaron Carey kicked over another excellent point with his imperious left leg to keep Listowel in a 2 point lead. Ballyduff in injury time attacked incessantly forcing two 45s in injury time. Keeper Killian Boyle lobbed in 2 dangerous balls but the Listowel rearguard stood firm and on the 5th minute of injury time the referees whistle sounded and Listowel were crowned North Kerry Champions on a scoreline.
Listowel Emmets 0.13 Ballyduff 1. 08.
The winners had a little more strength on each of the different lines of the pitch and on the day deserved their win and were pushed to the very limit by a good Ballyduff team. The main instigator of this win for Listowel was Aaron Carey who gave as good a display as anyone could hope to have or see in a minor final anywhere. He contributed as already stated 10 points 7 from play 3 frees. His team mates in fairness did give him excellent support throughout For Ballyduff Evan Boyle gave a great display throughout and he equally was helped by other good performances around him. Well done to both teams and management for giving all present an enthral ling game of football . Indeed it was fitting that the show piece of minor football in North Kerry produced such a good game of football considering North Kerry were crowned County Minor Football Champions a few months ago. Huge thanks to our Minor competition spon sor’s O’Connor Hardware and Farm Supplies Duagh. Referee Dan Hayes done a top class job as did his officials. Finally to Asdee who hosted the final a massive thank you. Jack Walsh Park is undoubtedly the envy of many a club. It was unreal to see a ball hop shoulder high after all the rain that has fallen. A credit to all involved in the club.

Semi Final: Listowel Emmets B 1.05 v Ballydonoghue B 0.11
Fixtures
The second Semi Final of the Bernard O’Callaghan Senior Championship be tween Listowel Emmets and Brosna which takes place on Sunday next, with two teams that play a very similar style of football. Both teams like to move the ball at pace and are both attacking minded. Emmets are a young team with players who are trying to break through to the Final stages of the Cham pionship for several years. Brosna in the other hand are a team with a mixture of youth and experience and have been knocking on the door and
were knocked out to eventual winners Desmonds in the Semi Final of last year. Is it now time for Brosna to break through to the last two of the Bernard O Callaghan Championship and push on for their first ever title or is it Emmets turn to make it to the last two who haven’t being in a final since 2015 beating Brosna on that day . What will separate these two teams??? Will it be fitness or hunger????
