CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while using DóTerra’s essential oils in our daily routine. As a certified DóTerra essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help and support so many people and their families over the last three years on their essential oil journey throughout North Kerry, West Limerick and beyond.

YOU ARE INVITED TO A COMMUNITY WEEKEND AT TARBERT FROM 12TH TO 15TH AUGUST

Kilnaughtin Church & Graveyard Committee is pleased to announce its programme of events for a community weekend at Kilnaughtin, Tarbert and a copy of the full programme is available from local shops or download from www.kilnaughtin.ie. Everybody welcome! Kilnaughtin Graveyard Mass – Friday 12th August at 7pm. In the interests of comfort and safety, a bus service to and from the Bridewell, at no cost to people using the service, will be provided by the Kilnaughtin Church & Graveyard Committee. In order to secure your seat please register at the Bridewell in advance as parking at Kilnaughtin is very limited and can entail a walk from where you park to the graveyard. The bus will take you to the main gate, collect you afterwards and drop you back to the Bridewell.

I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood and this week I want to share with you one of DóTerras encouraging blends which can benefit both young and old. Replace Negative Emotions with feelings of Confidence & Encouragement! This week’s oil has been a game changer for many as it includes nine essential oils in a base of fractionated coconut oil to create the perfect encouraging blend and provide feelings of confidence. Many like to use this first thing in the morning on the wrist points and behind the ears to get the day going. In our home we like to apply this oil over the heart space to support us in our day ahead. Here are the main benefits and uses of DóTerrea’s Motivate essential oil known as the Encouraging Blend and you can contact me on the number below for more info. Main Benefits: • Reduce feelings of tension • Creates an uplifting aroma • Provides a grounding, balanced effect on the emotions Uses: • • • • •

Use during a massage to ease feelings of stress. (Children love this at night times to unwind and relax before bed) Apply to the pulse points while working on a project to stay motivated Use topically before a sporting event or other competitions (May be a good one to use while on the golf course!) Place on the bottoms of the feet in the morning to promote feelings of courage Apply to the neck or the inside of the shirt collar to instil feelings of confidence before a presentation

DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. Using the oils internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we may experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. For extra positivity and well-being, check out my Facebook page – Caroline’s Pod of Positivity where we have information and videos on all of DóTerra’s essential oils. For consultations and appointments you can reach me on the number below to arrange a time / date that suits you and together we will start you on your journey with DóTerra’s essential oils. THE FAMILY FARM: TRANSFERRING IT CAN BE A VERY DELICATE ISSUE – FDC GROUP

By Caitriona Casey, FDC Group Newcastle West

There hardly a day goes by in my profession that John B. Keane’s powerful play “The Field” does not be invoked. It is one play that gets deep into the soul of Irish people. Compared to other nations Irish people have a huge attachment to property ownership but nothing can be as contentious as the family farm. Over the years land has become very valuable rising much faster than the rate of inflation. For instance, over the forty-year period from 1980 to 2020 it has increased in value from €2,135.95 to €10,316.00 per acre far ahead of the rate of inflation. However, the reality is that the income derived from such a valuable asset in no way compensated for its huge asset value. When a farm has been built up over generations there is huge possibility for arguments and division to develop. The sad reality is that it is a topic that is very rarely discussed in households as it is very sensitive and considered taboo. Traditionally farmers have been very poor at expressing their feelings. However, it is always better to be open about such issues. If an argument is going to develop it is better to have it sorted sooner rather than later. Pick the right time and place to have an open discussion on the matter. It is important that every stakeholder has their input. If the meeting gets too agitated, it is better to adjourn it to another time. All families are unique, and some members may exert more influence than others. Many potential disagreements can be avoided by open discourse and conversation. It is important to get the correct professional advice and it may be worth considering engaging a mediator. Unfortunately, there will be situations where it is impossible to get consensus. Some siblings may have contributed significantly to the farm over the years. They may have an expectation of obtaining a site or some other form of monetary compensation. It is important that they are allowed to express their feelings and expectations. Such involvement will avoid friction. Unfortunately, if farms are divided between family members it can make them too small and unviable. The future care and income need of the transferor cannot be disregarded. One also needs to be aware of The Fair Deal Scheme and any implications if could have on the Farm Transfer. Since October 2021, the financial contribution based on the farm is limited to three years once a family successor continues to work the farm for 6 years and the transferor worked the asset up to the time of transfer. Obviously, taxation issues need to be carefully examined. There are three main taxes associated with property transfers namely Capital Gains Tax, Capital Acquisitions Tax and Stamp Duty. There are various reliefs from all of these taxes and if managed correctly it should be possible to transfer a farm with very little tax. A farm transfer is a process and not an event. It needs to be carefully planned and thought out. Sometimes there are no successors and when this is the case one needs to study their options. With any decision it is vital to get the appropriate professional advice. As mentioned at the outset land goes to the care of Irish people. The main thing is to keep talking. “A problem shared is a problem halved”.

LISTOWEL BAZAAR CANCELLED FOR 2022 Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control we have made the difficult decision to cancel our Bazaar again this year. As a fundraiser we will run a draw where the first prize will be €1,000. Your support would be very much appreciated as always.

LISTOWEL TIDY TOWNS LOCAL COMPETITIONS 2022

It’s that time of the year. Once again the Tidy Towns local annual competitions are up and running. Closing date for entries is Saturday July 23rd, with judging taking place throughout the following week. Listowel Tidy Towns are inviting all estates to get involved in the competition of their suitable category. Resident associations and community spirit goes a long way. The upkeep of these estates also played a major role in Listowel being awarded the Tidiest Town in Ireland 2018 and Tidy Towns are asking you to keep up the good work. Our roadside gardens speak for themselves. They are a credit to their owners and judges will have a difficult time choosing one above the other. But you must register your garden to be included in the competition. You don’t have to have a big garden or live in an estate to get involved in the excitement. There’s also a special category for hanging baskets/window boxes. Listowel Tidy Towns would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge their faithful sponsors, namely Kerry Ingredients, Listowel Garden Centre and Fitzgerald Tyre Centre. Without their generosity this part of their program would not be possible. And a big thank you to Oonagh for again facilitating the dropping off of the entries. All entries must be submitted to Oonagh, now of: Chemco Pharmacy, Market Street on or before Saturday july 23rd. Remember, If You’re Not In, You Can’t Win - Jackie Barrett-Madigan, PRO

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well We hope all is well with you this week. Isn’t it strange where the week’s are flying by and yet we are trying to make the most of every day by doing something different rather than doing the same thing every day. You could say we do the same with our food choices too , but it’s important to remember that we need to shake things up a bit with different ideas and variety. On our San Rita Wellness plan we can easily bulk up our meals with added fruit and veg as most of these are calorie free on our plan. Fruit and vegetables are great to add colour to our meals which satisfies both our eyes and our belly.

Is Lunch a challenge for you? Are you reaching for the same thing every day like Bread, Bread and more Bread Are you actually preplanning your Lunch or deciding on the spur of the moment? Are your Lunches filling enough? Lunch is the one meal of the day that is most likely to be eaten away from home, making it harder to stay in control of your food choices. For example : A day trip to the beach, A picnic with some sight seeing, A day out shopping etc. Here are some tips that may help. • Have a look at some lunch ideas online • Make your own rolls / sandwiches to bring with you • Have some chopped fruit in a container for snacking • Decide to have something different every day • Choose to sit, eat and enjoy your Lunch (more mindful) • Choose filling foods such as Wholemeal breads, pasta, left over protein such as chicken or fish. • Plan 3 or 4 different types of lunches for over the week Another option for you if you are trying to cut down on bread would be “BROGHIES“. Broghies are a large popped grain type cracker often referred to as an edible bowl. They are low in carbs and calories and are also vegan friendly. You can add a variety of different toppings to them which makes them an ideal lunch or snack. They are available in your local Super Valu store in Listowel and Ballybunion. Some of these tips can help you avoid food boredom. Planning lunch in advance is a great way to ensure you get in more variety and colour and most of all leave you feeling more satisfied. Lunch is every bit as important as every other meal as it has to carry you next main meal. So that is why it’s important that it is filling and healthy in order to avoid any pitfalls during the afternoon. For extra support and for weekly accountability check us out on Facebook San Rita Wellness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “In Person Meetings“, “At Home Service“ or our “One to One Service“ NB - Our weekly “In Person Meetings“ take place in Listowel Community Centre every Wednesday and in The Ballybunion Health and Leisure Centre every Thursday. MUHAMMAD ALI: FIFTEEN ROUNDS IN THE WILDERNESS By Dave Hannigan

Between defeat by Trevor Berbick in December 1981 and lighting the Olympic flame in Atlanta in July 1996, Muhammad Ali spent the 15 most turbulent years of his life traversing the globe, seeking a higher purpose. Depending on the day, the retired champion could be a diplomat trying to liberate hostages in the Middle East, a salesman flogging cookies and cologne across America, or an amateur magician performing sleights of hand everywhere from prison yards to school halls to Valentino fashion shows. Sometimes hilarious, often terribly poignant, this kaleidoscopic account of the most bizarre episodes in his epic life chronicles Ali preaching Islam, causing havoc and touching lives from Beijing to Birmingham, Detroit to Damascus, Khartoum to the Khyber Pass. One minute hanging with Donald Trump, the next with Nelson Mandela, even as his own body and mind battled the onset of Parkinson’s Syndrome, here are so many previously untold stories about ‘The Greatest’ treating statesmen and strangers, popes and paupers just the same. Fifteen Rounds in the Wilderness documents Ali’s public life during these 15 years in compelling detail. Hannigan presents a vast number of incidents and anecdotes captured at the time or remembered by the participants. The volume of research is impressive with countless local, national and international reports quoted and long forgotten small events highlighted. It’s these local, low-key events which tell us so much about Ali because even the most routine appearance was made significant and memorable simply by Ali’s presence and charisma. Each individual story works as an interesting insight but the combination of so many together is powerful, fascinating, funny and heartbreaking. It’s a brilliant addition to the ever growing library of books on Ali.

Eoin was not far away from the medals and has been a consistent performer at all levels right up to national for a number of years. in the Munster B championships in Templemore and the club wishes them the best of luck. Club information is available from 087 7985557and stbrendansa.c.kerry@gmail.com. COISTE NA NÓG U13 Our U13 footballers kicked off their North Kerry Division 1B campaign with a home win against Knock/Brosna. The game was played in glorious sunshine on Sunday morning with the visitors getting a quick start by notching up 1 – 1 within the opening four minutes. It took the home team some time to settle, however centre forward Sean Ross O’Gorman started to get onto the ball and after some well worked moves our boys scored 1 – 2 without reply. Ballyduff hit a purple patch in the second quarter with Adam Kennelly getting some excellent scores. Half time score was 2 – 4 to 1 – 2. With the aid of the wind in the second half, the boys in green started to work the ball through the lines allowing the forwards to pick off some lovely scores. Knock/Brosna kept battling and got their just rewards by scoring an excellent goal and kicking some well taken points. However with great determination and commitment the home team finished stronger with Sean and Adam getting further goals. Aodhan Slattery, Ruairi Walshe, Darragh James, Ben Lynch & Micheal Donegan put in stellar performances with Sean Ross O’Gorman and Adam Kennelly getting the all-important scores. The team lined out as follows: Odhran McDermottroe; Sean Baron, Ryan Carey, Paudie Enright; Micheal Donegan, Aodhan Slattery, Ruan Houlihan; Ruairi Walshe, Darragh James; Adam Kennelly, Sean Ross O’Gorman, Ben Lynch; Conor Curley, James Harrington, Jack Houlihan. Sub: Ronan Barron. Final Score Ballyduff 5 - 10 Knock/Brosna 2 – 6. U15 This age-group had a very busy week playing three matches in as many days at the start of the week. On Monday the U15 hurlers drew with Kenmare in Kenmare, and on Tuesday were unlucky to lose to Parnells at home. On Wednesday the U15 footballers took on Tarbert at home. It was a tough physical game of football with both sides taking their chances and each side leading at times but in the end Tarbert were able to pull clear. Final score Ballyduff 3-10 Tarbert 2-16. BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS Championship Hurling: Our Minor and Senior Hurlers advanced in their respective Championships at the weekend . Minors: The Minors advanced to the County Hurling Final when they defeated combination side Crotta /Kilmoyley in the semi-final played in Lixnaw on Friday evening last. After a shaky start when the teams were level 1-3 to 0–6 Ballyduff went into overdrive swinging over points from all angles and adding 3 goals to run out easy winners on the scoreline of Ballyduff 3 - 20 Crotta/Kilmoyley 1—6. Ballyduff Team; Killian Murphy; Gavin Murphy Aaron Whyte, Ray McGrath; Ryan O’Rourke, Luke Kennelly, Adam Lynch; Oisín Healy, Evan Boyle; Jake Rochford, Jack Enright (captain), Cian Sheehy; Killian Boyle, John Curtin, Luke Rochford. Subs: Michael Houlihan, Shay Murphy, Chris Ross, Jack Galway, Diarmuid O’Connor. Seniors: Our Senioir hurlers advanced to the County Senior Hurling semi-final on Saturday last when they defeated Abbeydorney at Austin Stack Park. Just like the previous week they started well and led by 0 – 14 to 0 – 7 at halftime. An injury to Kevin Goulding seemed to unsettle Ballyduff and we conceded a goal but still led by 5 and two further points put us seven up going into injury time. However two Abbeydorney goals meant a very shaky last couple of minutes but we managed another point and were relieved to hear the final whistle with the score reading Ballyduff 0 – 26 Abbeydorney 3 – 15. Ballyduff Team: PJ O’Gorman; Adam Segal, Sean O’Connor, Kyle O’Connor; Thomas Slattery, Kevin Goulding, Paud Costello; David Goulding, Eoin Ross; Anthony O’Carroll, Mikey Boyle, Daniel O’Carroll(Captain); Aodhan Curley, Kieran O’Carroll, Podge Boyle. Subs: Jack O’Sullivan for Anthony O’Carroll; Kevin O’Connor for Kevin Goulding (inj.); Paul O’Carroll for Aodhan Curley; Cathal Kearney for Sean O’Connor. U-12 HURLING BLITZ The Crotta Sportsfield in Dromakee was awakened on Saturday morning 16th July to the sounds of U12 hurlers from Ballyheigue, Ballyduff, Ardfert, Abbeydorney & Crotta who were taking part in a North Kerry hurling blitz. It was Fantastic to see so many kids and parents out enjoying our national sport on the eve of the All Ireland Final. Like the sunshine the standard of hurling on display was delightful. Huge thanks to all players and parents for making this morning possible. Thanks to all parents who provided refreshments and for looking after everybody with cool drinks and nibbles. Sincere thanks to John Ross and Tommy Guerin for referring and guiding the players during the games. Finally, a huge thank you to all mentors and volunteers involved with each team. Your efforts and involvement are invaluable in keeping the young kids involved in sport. Being involved with your club and working with kids is just as important as the guys parading the side lines of Sunday’s All Ireland between Limerick and Killkenny in Croker. Well done everybody, looking forward to our next outing

BEALE GAA

Beale seniors secured a crucial victory in the relegation playoff over Scartaglin on Sunday. A blend of youth and experienced saved the day and kept us in Division 4. Stretched for numbers, we had to call on some former players to come out of ‘retirement’ for this vital game and, true to character, they did not disappoint. Thanks to their brave efforts and that of their teammates, we evaded relegation and contest Division 4 of the County League again next year. Scartaglin had the slight edge in the first quarter but when they hit the post from the penalty spot, our hopes were raised, and the teams went in at the interval level on five points apiece. While we drove on from there to lead by 1-7 to 0-6 going into the final quarter, our opponents brought us back to level. Great credit is due to the players who worked hard in exceptionally warm, sunny conditions. It was nip and tuck in the final quarter as the teams levelled twice and a last-minute point sent us on our way. Victory was ours by the slimmest of margins, 1-8 to 1-7. Beale lined out as: Seán Dee, Jack O’Sullivan, John Griffin, Joe Finch, Daithí Toomey, Jeremy King, Diarmuid O’Mahony, Phillie Blake, Pádraig Murphy, Conor Toomey, James McMahon, Neilus Mulvihill, Rory Mulvihill and Barry O’Mahony. Substitutes: Daniel Hayes for Daithí Toomey (inj), Paul Collins for Rory Mulvihill, Tommy O’Neill, John Blake, John M Horgan, Wayne Jones, Philip Hornyak and Podge Holly. We travel to Tarbert for the opening match of Group 3 of the County Junior Club Championship on Sunday, July 31st. Throw in is at 2.30. The other teams in this group are Asdee and Firies. Beale juniors are scheduled to play Clounmacon on Tuesday evening in Ballybunion at 7.30 and Moyvane on Thursday evening in Moyvane at 7.30 in Division 4A of the North Kerry League. We await details of our postponed game against Tarbert. North Kerry U-21s are through to the final of the County Championship, following a great win over Kenmare District in the semi-final. We look forward to a thrilling encounter when North Kerry take on East Kerry in the final on Wednesday, July 27th. Best of luck to Robert Stack and Diarmuid O’Mahony and their teammates. The winning numbers drawn in this week’s Beale Lotto on Monday night were 21, 27, 29 and 31. There was no jackpot winner and one Match-3 winner, Ian Madden, who wins €100. Next week’s jackpot is €1,250. The draw takes place in The Exchange Bar on Monday at 9 o’clock. A huge ‘míle buíochas’ to everyone who supports and promotes the Beale Lotto. Tickets, €2 each or 3 for a fiver, are available in Joyce’s Newsagents or in the local pubs. Play online by downloading the Clubforce app or simply click the link on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages or log onto https://clubforce. com/clubs/beale-gaa-kerry/. All online entries must be registered by 6.00pm on the day of the draw – entries after 6.00pm will be entered in the next draw. Congratulations to Kenneth Mannix and his bride, Katie, who tied the knot last Friday. Kenneth is a former player and actively involved in training of teams at many levels in the club. He is a former minor manager and currently trains under-age teams. Beale GAA wish Kenneth and Katie many years of love, health and happiness.

LENAMORE ROVERS

Tommy Healy Cup Q/F Lenamore 4 - 2 Killorglin Lenamore got off to a great start in the KDL grounds in Tralee last Wednesday evening. After only 4 minutes Michael Holly fired home the opener when he latched onto a superb through ball from Eamon Leahy. Whilst Lenamore started brightly, Killorglin settled into the game and the pressure told with an equaliser that split our defence. Both teams went close before the break in an entertaining first half, but again, Lenamore started the second half stronger. Lenamore’s high pressure told on 48 minutes when Michael Holly picked up a loose pass in the middle of the park, driving into the box and slotting the ball low past the diving goalkeeper to make it 2-1. Lenamore kept up the pressure, looking for a third, which came in the 71st minute, when Sean Hanrahan delivered a long ball from the back for Eamon Leahy to run onto. The Lenamore striker converted the chance superbly with the outside of the foot as the ball flew into the far corner of the net. As Killorglin pressed, Sean Hanrahan again intercepted a pass and advanced into the Killorglin half before threading the ball through to Lorcan Leahy, who ran on to wrong-foot the goalkeeper, sliding the ball into the net. Killorglin were not done, pulling a goal back with ten minutes to go, but Lenamore showed the grit and desire to see the game out, finishing 4-2 winners and into the semi final of the cup. A really good performance by the whole team. Brion Cregan with the Man of the Match performance in the midfield. All in all, another good night for this team, who are proving exciting to watch. Team: Matt o connor, Liam McCarthy, Ciaran o Connor, Kieran Swan, Sean Hanrahan, Wayne Hayes, Conor Hogan, Brion Cregan, Michael Holly, Jack Mulvihill, Eammon Leahy. Subs Lorcan leahy, Michael Nolan, Donal leahy, Shane o Sullivan. MOTM: Brionn Cregan Congratulations to Michael Holly who was voted the players player of the year for 2021/22 for the second consecutive season. Michael is the top scorer for the club with 20 goals so far and was presented with the trophy by managers Tony Fennell and Brendan Hogan. Lenamore have been drawn against Ballymac or Killarney Celtic in the semi final. Date and time to be announced. The club are aiming to launch a GoFundme Page in the coming weeks to raise funding towards a Defibrillator and Storage container. This will be located on the clubhouse and will be available to the community. Please follow out Facebook page for further updates.

“You’re a really good person. You go to church and you know about God.You deserve to go to Heaven.” I could only say NO! NO! NO! in response to what my friend said. Going to church, knowing about God and being a really good person won’t get me into Heaven. I don’t deserve to go to Heaven. It’s only by God’s grace extended to me and to all who believe in and confess Jesus as Lord and Saviour of their life that anyone gets to Heaven. Ephesians 2:89 clearly tells us “For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” God loves, forgives and saves us not because of who we are or what we do but because of the work of Jesus Christ. That’s grace. But there is one very important truth here, God wants me in Heaven, and He wants you there. Our part is this: we can accept Him or reject Him. I go to church and read the Word of God (the bible) and pray to God because I am so grateful

to God. I am grateful that He has given us Jesus Christ to be our sin bearer. He took all our sin and guilt and shame on Himself on the cross. I am grateful for the gift of eternal life when l die but also for abundant life of knowing Jesus while here on earth. I am so grateful that God gave us His Holy Spirit to live inside of us to be our internal guide and comfort. That’s incredible. And l am forever grateful for the Word of God. In it l read of the promises God has made to anyone who accepts Him. There are over 7000 promises made by God to humankind in the bible if we place our faith in Him. How do l know that He keeps His promises? God is a promise keeper. His word tells me in psalm 145:13 “The Lord is faithful to ALL His promises and loving toward all He has made.” It’s all there for anyone who wants it. If you require any further information you can call LCF at 087 9529907. Yours sincerely, Bridie (Dillon) Hartney

Mother of Devine Grace, You can find a way where there is no way. Please hear my prayer and grant my request. Amen. M.C.

Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity (Mention your request here) There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3 times). Amen This prayer is never known to fail. It is to be said for 3 consecutive days. Publication on granting of the favour must be promised and done. T.T.

PRECIOUS MOTHER OF JESUS Mother of Devine Grace, You can find a way where there is no way, please hear my prayer and grant my request. Amen. Say 6 times a day for 3 days. M.K.

THE MIRACLE PRAYER

Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours. This time I ask you this special one, (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. N.W.
