ELLIE-MAI’S FUN WALK FOR TEMPLE STREET

Fresh from her recent appearance on The Late Late Toy Show, sixth class student at Coolard National School, Ella-Mai Neylon is organising a Fun Walk this St. Ste phen’s Day with the help of her parents Frank and Fiona and sisters Rachel and Emma. The walk will take place on Listowel’s Greenway at 11am on December 26th to fundraise for Temple Street Childrens Hospital and everyone is welcome to take part. Fiona has set up a JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ fiona-neylon?utm_source=whatsapp and would be very grateful for any contribu tions.

Speaking to us this week Fiona described the event and the motives behind it: “As you may know Ellie-Mai spent time in Temple Street Childrens Hospital over the summer period. We are greatly indebted to the Hospital and all its medical staff for the tremendous care given to Ellie-Mai, while she was under their medical care. She is now on the road to a full recovery. We now wish to support their foundation, which supports sick children and their families in CHI hospitals and urgent care centres thus helping to make groundbreaking paediatric research possible.” Fiona continued: “We are organising a family fun 5k walk on St. Stephens morning at 11am on Listowel’s recently opened Greenway. Walk off the excess while raising much needed funds! Everybody welcome, walkers, runners, buggies, kids on bikes etc. We hope to finish the event with refreshments. Details to be finalised nearer the time. Looking forward to welcoming you all on the day.”

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS

CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY

Welcome to my weekly column and my Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while using DóTerra’s essential oils in our daily routine.

As a certified DóTerra essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help and support so many people and their families over the last three years on their essential oil journey throughout North Kerry, West Limerick and beyond. I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind and the Mood.

A Natural Antibiotic – DÓTERRAS OREGANO

This week I bring you dóTerra’s Oregano essential oil which has powerful cleansing properties that support our immune, respiratory, and digestive systems. It has been used for centuries by the ancient Greeks for its taste and health benefits and is often referred to as ‘The Big Gun’ or ‘The Oil of Humility’. Oregano is a natural antibiotic and anti-inflammatory and is most popularly used for immune sup port. It is one of the Top 10 essential oils in the dóTerra range and is included in both the Family Essentials & Home Essentials Kits from Caroline’s Pod of Positivity. It offers powerful antioxidants and is dis tilled from the fragrant leaves of the Mediterranean herb.

Oregano is known to ease whooping cough, kill ringworm, treat athlete’s foot, candida, fungal infections, inflammation, carpel tun nel pain and arthritis, muscle aches/pain, nasal polyp, warts and so much more. There is amazing healing power to be found in this dó Terra oil and it comes in a 15ml size bottle that contains 285 x drops of pure, neat and unadulterated essential oil. Since Oregano is a ‘spice oil’ or ‘hot oil’ you may find it hard to take under the tongue so it is best advised to put a drop in some water and drink it. You can also take dóTerra’s Oregano by putting one or two drops into a veggie capsule and swallowing with some water. Oregano is the recommended oil for gut health and we all know how important our gut health is.

Oregano is a top favourite oil in my kitchen when cooking Pasta, Soup and Bolognese dishes. This oil can be applied topically to the skin when blended with a carrier oil or added to a roller bottle with a mixture of the other top 10 x oils from the Family Essential Kit or Home Essential Kit. It can also be added to a cold-water diffuser to allow it to get airborne in your home, office, classroom or work space. All of DóTerras essential oils can be purchased from Caroline’s Pod of Positivity on their own or as part of a Kit to support you and your family. These oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us with many of the following that we can experience from time to time, such as: Anxi ety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity, Allergy Assist and so much more.

Caroline’s Three – Way – Method To Use DóTerra’s Essential Oils:

Topically: Apply the oils onto your skin particularly on the pulse points and soles of the feet. Aromatically: Place two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffuse the oils in your home, class room, office space, salons or other places of work and business. Internally: Add the oils to your favourite food, waters and drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue to support your body and mind.

For extra positivity and well-being, check out my Facebook page; Caroline’s Pod of Positivity where we have information and videos on all of DóTerra’s essential oils.

For consultations and appointments you can reach me on the number below to arrange a time and date that suits you and together we will start you on your journey of health and wellness with DóTerra’s essential oils.

Have a gentle week.

HOW TO INFLATION-PROOF YOUR SAVINGS

When considering what article to write for today’s publication, I could not get away from the topic of infla tion. While conscious that inflation and the associated cost of living crisis are ever present on our news channels and in our newspapers, it persists as the main topic of conversation and cause for concern during our client meetings this year.

Inflation in Ireland is currently running at its highest level in almost 40 years at just over 9%, and many commentators now believe that inflation will be more persistent than was originally thought. It is indeed hard to picture a scenario where the rate of inflation falls back to the desired level of 2% per year in the short term. For the individual, inflation can be looked at as an attack on the spending power of their money. High rates of inflation reduce the amount of goods and services that your money can buy over time. So, what should people do to protect the spending power of their savings in a time of high inflation and 0% interest rates on the majority of retail deposit accounts?

I encourage people to separate the way they look at their money in to three distinct pots:

Pot 1 – Your emergency fund and short-term money

An emergency fund for an employee with stable employment and earnings should be at least three months’ take home pay. An emergency fund for a self-employed person or someone with less stable employment and earnings should be at least six months’ take home pay. I would define short-term money as money that you know will be spent within the next 4 years, e.g, money for home improvements. You need certainty over the value of that money so a cash account, separate to your current account is the only place that these funds should be held.

Pot 2 – Month to month savings that will not be spent within the next 5 years

This could be money that you are regularly saving each month for a specific life event such as a house deposit, a wedding or even an education pot for your children. This money should be put to work to protect the spending power of that money, as holding cash over the long term will slowly destroy the value of that money. To protect spending power, this money should be invested in a savings account that takes an allocation to growth-based assets, including but not limited to equities, bonds, alternatives and cash. The level of investment risk taken here will be proportionate to an individuals own attitude to investing. The main things that savers need here are diversification, time and access. Diversification means not putting all your eggs in one basket, and time allows you to see out periods of high volatility. Access means savers take part or all of their money out when needed without penalty.

Pot 3 – Savings that will not be needed for 10 years plus This is savings that have been accumulated that will not be used for any specific purpose for 10 years plus. The spending power of this money absolutely needs to be protected, holding cash for over 10 years will greatly reduce spending power. The approach here can be best described as invest and forget. Put it away when you have it, take it out when you need it, putting as long as possible between one and the other will see you in the best position possible. Proper diversi fication and having time on your side are very important here, the longer time horizon also allows you take a little more investment risk than may otherwise be the case.

Savers can benefit greatly by speaking to a good financial planner about the options that are available to savers in Ireland.

LISTOWEL FILM CLUB RETURNS TO

ST. JOHN’S THEATRE

St John’s Theatre Film Club returns in January 2023 after a long hiatus. Screening a range of interna tional films throughout the year, the season’s opening film is the award winning Irish Film, An Cailín Ciúin and will be shown on Tuesday 10th January at 8pm in St John’s Theatre.

Colm Bairéad’s debut feature has become one of the most lauded and garlanded Irish films of recent years. Adapted from Foster, a short story by Claire Keegan, it centres on nine-year-old Cáit, a shy and withdrawn child who receives scant attention or affection from a family ruled by an uncaring patriarch. For film buffs in the town, the return of the big screen will be celebrated, particularly in the loss of the great independent cinema in the town in the past few years. The Film Club will take place on the 2nd Tuesday of every month in the Theatre at 8pm.

Maire Logue, Artistic Director in St John’s Theatre is delighted to host the film club for the town. She says ‘we are thrilled to be working with the Save Our Cin ema Group in Listowel who will curate the programme of films we will show throughout the year and look forward to replacing the Film Club started so many years ago in the Classic Cinema by Kieran Gleeson.’

In another great coup for St Johns, the venue has been included in Ron Sexsmith’s Irish tour just announced for Spring 2023. One of the biggest musical names of his generation, the three-time Juno award winning singer and songwriter from Canada will be a great treat for his legion of Kerry fans.

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well

With How are you?

This is a question we often ask or are asked and it can roll off the tongue very easily. It is also a question we can answer without really thinking about. Some words that may come to mind when you are answering that question could be for example.. I am great, I’m ok, I’m grand, I’m fine, I’m awful, I’m not too good, I’m hanging in there.

Your answer could be from a positive answer to a negative answer, all depending on your mood and feelings at the time. Moods and Feelings can have arms and legs and can grow in different directions and also take us in different directions.

“How we think determines how we feel and how we feel determines what we do“

Some of you may be feeling:

In Control

RoutineMany of us feel more in control when we have a set routine. Whether it is with work or children going to school. Have a set bedtime ensures that we have a good nights sleep.

Food -

Having the right foods in the house is important especially when we are conscious of making healthy choices for mealtimes . Also we are less likely to make rash decisions and choose less healthier foods.

ActivityBecoming more active are all important steps for a healthy lifestyle. Throughout the day be mindful of walking as much as you can. All of these steps count towards the recommended 10,000 steps a day for overall good health and wellbeing. Our San Rita Wellness ethos is when we “Eat Well“ we “Feel Well“ & therefore we “Live Well“

EmotionalHappy, Sad, Stressed, Tired. These FEELINGS can be triggers to reach for the wrong kind of foods. This can create what is known as a vicious circle and can be hard to break out of . Identifying these emotional feelings and dealing with them in a different way other than eating your way through them can have a different outcome for you at the end of the day.

More Positive

Positive V Negative. Many things can sway us from one to the other . The weather for example, sunny day/rainy day, restrictions or no restrictions. These are some of the things we have no control over. Focus on the things we have control over to leave you feeling more positive and getting an outcome that will benefit you for the better.

Supported

There are many support groups out there in all areas so nobody should ever feel that they have to do or cope with something on their own .We also find that our members in our San Rita Wellness “ In Person Meetings “ and in our weekly Zoom meetings feel that being part of a group offers them the support they need with their weight loss and wellness journey

For extra support and for weekly accountability check us out on Facebook San Rita Well ness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “In Person Meetings“, “At Home Service” or our “One to One Service“.

NB - Our weekly “In Person Meetings“ take place in Listowel Community Centre every Wednesday and in The Ballybunion Health and Leisure Centre every Thursday. Give us a call on Sandra 087 6718377 / Rita 087 1012174 Until next week, Sandra and Rita

QUINN

This is the gripping inside story of Ireland’s bankrupt billionaire, Sean Quinn, who went from rags to riches before he gambled it all on Anglo-Irish Bank shares and became the world’s biggest personal loser of the economic collapse of 2008. A millionaire by thirty, Quinn took on the Irish cement business in the 1980s and won. He became an almost mythical char acter, creating thousands of jobs at a time when the dark shadows of mass unemployment and the Troubles loomed over the borderlands. Then he gambled on the stock market, and this time he lost. Quinn’s senior team was hand-picked, with loyalty prized above all else. But they have now become the sole focus of his obsession, as he holds them responsible for what happened. The atmosphere in ‘Quinn Country’ turned dark and ominous, culminating with the horrific abduction and attack on Kevin Lunney in 2019. Ten years after losing it all, Quinn is a brooding figure in a monstrous house, refusing to accept any blame for his downfall. This is the truly remarkable story of the man everyone said was too big to fail.

KILFLYNN

TABLE QUIZ

After a break of almost three years, the Kilflynn Cancer Sup port Group table quiz returns on Wednesday 28th December. The intervening period has been difficult for our designated charities, Recovery Haven, Kerry Hospice and Kerry Cancer Support, with much of their fundraising activity curtailed because of the pandemic. Therefore, the community’s sup port is needed more than ever so that these beneficiaries can continue their wonderful work. The quiz has always received unbelievable support from the people of Kilflynn and the surrounding parishes, with almost €80000 raised to date, the vast majority of which was distributed to Kerry-based cancer charities. With such support, the quiz has become an integral part of Christmas celebrations in the village. Moreover, the event is not all about answering questions but also a fun filled night of music, raffles, and auctions. Therefore, the or ganizers would be grateful to receive any donations. Maybe you could ask a business, you regularly deal with, for some item, such as a voucher, that we might raffle or sell on the night. Also, if you have any unwanted presents do not put them in the attic; give them to us to raise much-needed funds for our charities. Even if you cannot attend on the night we would be grateful of your support in these ways. If interested please contact John Flaherty on (087) 2352753. Any donations can be handed in to John, Parker’s Pub or Her bert’s Bar and shop.

Anyone who might like to lend a hand on the night itself please let us know. As always, the organisers thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you on the 28th, throw-in at 8: 30!

DEATH

The death took place of John Bohan, Tarmons East, Tarbert and formerly of Cloone, County Leitrim. John who was aged 88 died at his resi dence on Saturday 26 November. His Requiem Mass took place on Monday 28 November in St. Mary’s Church, Tarbert and was celebrated by Fr John O’Connor, Tarbert. Following the Req uiem Mass, burial took place in St John Paul 11 Cemetery in Listowel. With lack of employment opportunities in Leitrim, John like many of his compatriots emigrated to England in the 1950’s to seek his fame and fortune. He worked in con struction around London where he met his future wife, Theresa Mangan from Dooncaha, Tarbert. They were married and reared six daughters. With the advent of construction work at Tarbert Power Station in the 1970’s they returned to Ireland and lived in Tarmons East where they were to live for the remainder of their lives together. A tall, able, skillful well built, quiet spoken worker John was in demand to do the blockwork and plastering of new houses that were being built all over North Kerry and West Limerick. At the end of his day’s work he looked forward to a quiet drink with friends in the public houses in Tarbert. About 19 years ago John was predeceased by his wife The resa. Sympathy of the community is extended to his six daughters, Anita, Caroline, Hazel, Jackie, Bernadette and Amanda, to his sister Terry, sonsin-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and neighbours.

WINDOW ON THE PAST

Last week marked the Centenary of an Gárda Síochana in Kerry when the first members of the new Civic Guard, as it was then called, came to Listowel on 30 November 1922, reportedly coming by boat to Tarbert in the closing stages of the Civil War. The first Garda to arrive in Tar bert was Garda Pat Carr who arrived from the Garda Depot on 29 March 1923. He was joined by Garda Thomas Dunne also from the Depot on 18 December 1924. The old RIC barracks in Tarbert, site of the present barracks, was in ruins following an attack by Republicans on the Free State army in occupation there. The Gardai were based in a four- bedroom house, with kitchen and day room leased from Mrs. Bridget, Carroll, Main Street by the Board of Works. The contract for rebuilding of the ruined barracks was awarded to Reidy’s of Newcastlewest and the building was ready for oc cupation on 23 July 1928. The first Garda Sergeant appointed to Tarbert was E. P. McConnell who resigned in lieu of dismissal in 1923. He was re placed by Sergeant James Hurley who was trans ferred from Ballylongford on 5 September 1928. He was to continue to serve in Tarbert for the next 35 years up until his retirement on 27 April 1963.

The first Tarbert recruits to the new Garda Force were brothers Jimmy and John Lynch of Kilpa dogue, Tarbert. Both were members of the lo cal Volunteers and had been recommended by Lieutenant Con Brosnan of the Free State army. Both were appointed as Gardai in April 1923. They were joined by Jack Donovan, Doonard, a member of the Free State army garrison who had been in Tarbert barracks during the Civil War attack.

On behalf of the community I extend best wishes and continued good health and happiness in 2023 to Sean Liddy,Cooraclare, County Clare. Sergeant Liddy served 23 years in Tarbert from 5 July 1966 up until his retirement in January 1989. Sean was the last serving officer to reside with his family in the station’s living quarters. LISTOWEL EMMETS GAA

Thank you: A massive thank you to everyone for their support of our Senior Team over the last few weeks, the support at Sunday’s final was second to none, the players, team management and Club are extremely grateful to you all, the roar when Emmets went up the field was unbelievable and it meant so much to all involved.

Results: North Kerry Senior Championship – Final Emmets 0-13 Castleisland Desmonds 0-07

Congratulations to our Senior team who were crowed North Kerry Champions on Sunday last after a simply brilliant display against the three in a row seek ing Castleisland Desmonds. Emmets got off to a blistering start and while it took ten minutes for the opening score from joint Captain Davy Keane they set the marker down and took the game to Desmonds, Desmonds did respond with a brace of points but the Emmets young guns steadied themselves and got lead at the break 0-06 to 0-03. Emmets continued their work rate on the resumption and a superb long range point from Cillian Holly followed quickly by two frees from Davy Keane. Emmets continued to hassle and run at the Desmonds outfit who just couldn’t find their grove, Emmets running out 0-13 to 0-07 winners. Emmets scorers: Davy Keane JC (0-08), Darragh Leahy, Mi cheal Kennedy, Jamie McVeigh, Cillian Holly (0-1)

A jubilant Ger McCarthy and Davy Keane lifted the Bernard O’Callaghan Cup to delight of the strong Emmets team and supporters. Ger McCarthy was also awarded Man of the Match. Hearty congratualations to the players and management team of Sean Moriarty, Johnny O’Brien, Martin Trench and Enda Murphy.

BEALE GAA

Páirc de Staic was the venue for the North Kerry Intermediate Cup final be tween Beale juniors and Ballydonoghue B on Saturday afternoon. Played in ideal conditions, the game provided lots of entertainment and excitement and the teams could not be separated at the final whistle.

Ballydonoghue had the brighter start with an excellent point and shortly after we replied. We exchanged further points from frees. Sixteen minutes in, we won a Ballydonoghue kick out and made no mistake finishing low to the net. Both sides were guilty of poor finishing and we went into a more defensive mode. Despite our great efforts, Ballydonoghue came back to level the game. We composed ourselves before the short whistle and went in at the break with a two-point advantage, 1-4 to 0-5.

Ballydonoghue were first off the mark on the changeover and we had a swift response. A further three unanswered points by Ballydonoghue gave them a one-point lead. Both teams had scoring chances but were guilty of rash finish ing. We were reduced to fourteen with a black card offence. As the clock ticked, we levelled. In a nail-biting finish, both teams grappled to find a winner and the full-time whistle went with both sides level, Beale 1-6, Ballydonoghue 0-9.

We got off to a better start in extra time extra time, gaining a two-point lead. Both teams added points and at the interval, again we had a two-point ad vantage, 1-9 to 0-10. In the second half of extra time, our opponents pulled us back and drew level as the final whistle beckoned, but we had other ideas and struck for a goal when a high ball into the Ballydonoghue square broke. It looked like victory was ours but from the kickout, Ballydonoghue attacked,

winning a free. A high ball was floated in and they rattled the net. A remark able finish to an exciting game of football as both teams have it all to do again. The final score read, Beale 2-9, Ballydonoghue 1-12.

Our hopes of a North Kerry double are still alive! We had the upper hand on Duagh in the North Kerry League a few weeks back and our lads will be pulling out all the stops in the replay to bring more silverware back to the seaside. We await details of the replay.

Beale lined out as: Tommy O’Neill (c), Andrew O’Connor, Podge Holly, Darragh Hanrahan, John Martin Horgan, Joe Finch, Daithi Toomey, Daniel Hayes, Shane Joy, Barry O’Neill, Callum McSweeney, Bernard O’Callaghan, James McMahon, Barry O’Mahony and Eric Daly. NORTH KERRY GAA

Bernard O Callaghan Senior Championship

Sponsored

Final - Report by Jack Hennessy

Castleisland Desmonds 0.07 v Listowel Emmets 0.13

It is a true saying in North Kerry that Championship football is a great leveller and certainly that was the outcome on Sunday last at sun drenched O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford; the home of the legendary Johnny Walsh, holder of 5 All Ireland Senior football Championship medals with Kerry. Pitch caretaker Noel Fennell had the pitch in perfect playing condition and also the stewarding by the home club was second to none as the huge travelling supporters made their way in droves. Castleisland Desmonds made the journey as hot favourites and rightly so as they easily accounted for the teams in their run up to the final by wide margins and were firm favourites going for a 3-in-a-row of titles to equal the last 3-in-a-row completed by Beale back in the late seventies early eighties. On the other hand Listowel Emmets didn’t have it all their own way and were made work much harder for their wins over St Senans, Knock nagoshel and Brosna after a replay. So as the day began at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford; excitement was at fever pitch amongst the huge attendance as they greeted their respective teams as they marched behind the Thomas Davis, Pipe Band, Mallow prior to the throw-in. Match Referee; Eamon Moran, Ballydonoghue, officiating at his first North Kerry senior championship final

got the game underway and it was very much evident from the word go that Listowel Emmets looking for their 16 title were well fired up for this encounter. They hunted in packs, chased every ball as if their lives depended on it; never gave Desmonds an inch to show their true worth and it was not a 2, 5 or 8 player performance it was a massive panel display; and furthermore having to line out without star players; out injured, Cormac Mulvihill and Bryan Sweeney they battled on regardless.Look this was as near to perfection as youd get for winning the District Championship and in fairness it had to be as Desmonds who are in the top flight in the County are an excellent side but on this occa sion couldn’t get hold of this flawless display by Emmets and 2pts from play is hardly good enough to win a game of this importance. Right I did say it was a panel effort but I have to mention a few players who excelled; Ger McCarthy who later received Man of the Match controlled the defence; Darragh Lynch was involved in a lot of their scorers and roamed the field while corner Davy Keane was unerring from frees. To be very honest the majority of the opening half was rather scrappy and free ridden and both teams finishing was poor to say the least. However it was Emmets who seemed to be that bit on top and playing the better football. It took until the 10th minute before we say the opening score with Davy Keane getting the first of his 8pts from frees.5mts later Cian W O Connor opened Desmonds account from a free. Two Adam O Donoghue frees saw them go ahead by 0-3 to 0-1 after 18mts but that’s was as good as it got for the Islanders as this youthful Listowel outfit took complete control and points coming from Darragh Leahy, Jack McElligott and 3 frees from Davy Keane and at the break it was Listowel Emmets; 0-6. Castleisland Desmonds, 0-3.

Half time featured the introduction to the attendance of the North Kerry Minor footballers who became 2022 County Champions; Jake Heffernan (Duagh); Thomas Kelly (Listowel Emmets), David Mulvihill (Tarbert), Conor Egan (Tar bert); Patrick O’Connor (0-2) (Moyvane), Conor Sweeney (Moyvane), Patrick Walsh (0-1) (Listowel Emmets); Eddie Healy (Listowel Emmets), Evan Boyle (0-1) (Ballyduff); Darragh O’Keeffe (Moyvane), Jack Enright (0-2) (Ballyduff), Jerh Brosnan (Moyvane); Oisin Healy 1-8 (0-3f, 0-2m) (Asdee), Jamie Moloney (0-1) (Moyvane), Aaron Carey (0-1 (Listowel Emmets). Subs: Luke Rochford (Ballyduff) for J Moloney (44), Aaron Kennelly (Listowel Emmets) for A Carey (51), Fionn Mulvihill (Moyvane) for J Enright (58), Robbie Foley (Ballydono ghue) for J Brosnan (63). and the Listowel Emmets team of 25 years ago. Derek Dalton Billy McElligott, (capt) Stephen Stack; Pa Galvin; Noel Twomey; Sean Moriarty; Kevin Lynch; Padraig Buckley; Gary Stack; Tadgh Kennelly;

John Hartnett; Mike Kennelly; Derek Galvin; Noel Kennelly; Brian Scanlon; Pat Kelly; Colman O’Flaherty; Tom Walsh; Liam Walsh; Billy Doyle; Carl Dillon; Sean O’Connell; Liam Keane; Padraig Thornton; Conor Moriarty.

On the restart and no doubt the way they were playing or should I say the way they were allowed perform Desmonds had a tough up hill battle on their hands; they needed a goal to get back in the game but never threatened the Listowel netminder Tom Harte at any stage. Emmets started the half as they finished and were to run Desmonds ragged for the majority of this half and the Islanders were not helping themselves giving away silly frees and with Davy Keane around you will be punished at every opportunity. Davy Keane, 2f and Cillian Holly added further scores with Adam O Donoghue only reply. Adam O Donoghue;3pts, 1play again on target with Patrick Hickey but Michael Kennedy and Davy Keane closed the scoring and guaranteed Listowel Emmets to be worthy North Kerry Champions after 7 years from long off. Overall maybe not the game people expected but nobody can question the super display given by Listowel Emmets against all the odds. Castleisland Desmonds had an bad day at the office but with the past 2 years they have been worthy cham pions and are still well in line for a shot at next years championship. After the game a massive Listowel Emmets supporters joined in for a hugh celebration with Chairperson of the North Kerry Football Board, Mairead O Sullivan pre sented the famous Eamon O Donoghue Cup to joint captain of Davy Keane and Ger McCarthy. Man of the Match went to Ger McCarthy and was presented by Sheila Enright on behalf of Estuary Print and Trophies, Ballylongford

Teams and scorers; Listowel Emmets; Tom harte, Ciaran Pierse, Jack McElligott, 1pt, Niall Collins, Michael Kennedy, 1pt, Ger McCarthy, Eddie Browne, Darragh Leahy, Jamie McVeigh, 1pt, Sean Gilbert, Darragh Lynch, Cillian Holly, 1pt, Jake Moriarty, Sean Keane, Davy Keane, 8f, Subs; Cathal Keane for Sean Gilbert, Cor mac Mulvihill for Jake Moriarty, Bryan Sweeney for Sean Keane, Dylan Quinn for Cillian Holly, John Heaphy for Darragh Lynch. Castleisland Desmonds;

Steven Bartlett, Gearoid leonard, Maurice Lynch, Luka Brosnan, Domnic Finne gan, Denis O Connor, Michael Walsh, Maurice Hickey, Brian Leonard, Adam O Donoghue, Cian W O Connor, 1f, Sean Lynch, Patrick, 1pt, Adam O Donoghue, 5pts,1f, Graham O Connor. Subs; Pat Fitzgerald for Michael Walsh, Kieran Bren nan for Patrick Hickey, Luke Lyons for Graham O Connor, Colm Roache for Luka Brosnan, Cian J O Connor for Sean Lynch. Referee, Eamon Moran, Ballydono ghue. Eamon had a fine game in his first District final.

THE MIRACLE PRAYER

Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours.

This time I ask you this special one, (mention fa vour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen.

Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. T.C.

OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

Oh, most beauti ful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven.

Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Im maculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity

(Mention your request here)

There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3 times). Amen

This prayer is never known to fail. It is to be said for 3 consecutive days. Publication on granting of the favour must be promised and done. T.C.

MEANING OF LIFE

“I suppose now that you’re shoving on, you’re considered to be in the vulnerable group?” My friend was laughing, since she’s a tad older than me!!!

We were chatting about the frequent announce ments in the media, encouraging vulnerable peo ple who may be at a higher risk of illness, to avail of flu’ and covid vaccines as protection. We are now all familiar with the term high risk groups.

It got me thinking. We are blessed to live in a Country where we have a health service that wants to protect those of us in vulnerable and high-risk groups. For that I am extremely grateful. But high risk isn’t just confined to our physical health. Of far more importance and with everlasting consequences is our Spiritual Health. This is a high risk group for which there is also a superior vaccine that has been provided by God for our eternal protection. That vaccine is Jesus Christ.

Rom 5:9 “By his blood we are now put right with God;”

I no longer need to belong to the high risk cat egory of people that do not trust in Jesus Christ for salvation.

The Word of God describes faith in Hebrews 11:1 as “...confidence in what we hope for and as surance in what we do not see.”

You could say that faith is a risk because we have to believe in things we cannot see. We believe in the presence of God, a God we can’t see, we be

lieve we will spend eternity in Heaven, a place we can’t see. We believe in the power of prayer and trusting that God will answer.

It’s a risk but it’s a risk worth taking. Many people believe certain facts that the Bible tells them about Jesus but they don’t rely on Him as their Saviour. Knowing the facts isn’t enough. We must also trust in Jesus, trust Him to do what He has promised in His Word.

The Word of God helps us to understand in Whom and in what we have faith. 2 Corinthians 5:7 tells me “...we live by faith and not by sight.”

Just listen to this. Jesus tells us through John 5:24 “l tell you the truth, those who listen to My Word and believe in God who sent Me have eternal life. They will NEVER be condemned for their sins but have already passed from death to life.”

And again in John 1:12 Jesus assures us “But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God.”

Everything in Salvation is based on faith and trust that God means what He has promised. In He brews 11:6 He even says that “He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Trusting Him is a win! win! win! situation.

We no longer need to belong to that high risk group who do not trust Jesus for our salvation, do we? Let us take that leap of faith!
