CRAOBH RÉIGIÚNACH DÍOSPÓIREACHT AN PHIARSAIGH

5th year students, Jodie Keane, Marie Keane, Faith Kennelly and Rebekah Sheehy competed in the regional final of the Irish debating competition, Comórtas Díospóireachta an Phiarsaigh on Monday 6th March. The first round of this competition was held last November in Scoil Pól, Kilfinane, Co.Limerick. The girls debated on the topic that Britain should keep the Royal Family. Four schools competed on the night, two schools in favour of the motion and two teams opposed the motion. Presentation

Secondary Listowel and Pobalscoil Eoin Báiste were chosen on the night to go ahead to the second round of the competition.

Round 2 was held in Coachford College, Co.Cork on Wednesday 1st February. The debate team argued in favour of the motion, Pensioners in Ireland have a great life. The regional final was held on Monday 6th March in Castletroy Hotel, Co.Limerick. The motion of the debate was that alcohol in Ireland should be banned. The girls argued in favour of this motion and once again showed their excellent debating skills. Unfortunately, they did not qualify for the All-Ireland Final but did amazingly well to get this far in the competition. Well done to all involved.

TARBERT COMPREHENSIVE AMONG WINNERS OF ALL-ISLAND ‘POETRY ALOUD’ POETRY SPEAKING COMPETITION

Out of 300 entries, with 22 making it to the final, 4 finalists were from Kerry schools, including St Brigid’s, Tarbert Community College, Presentation Secondary School and Coláiste Ide

A Tarbert Community School student, Máire Spaight, has been announced among the winners of this year’s Poetry Aloud competition, which challenges second-level students across the country to recite a prescribed poem from memory.

Organised by the National Library of Ireland (NLI) and Poetry Ireland, in partnership with UCC, this year’s competition drew 303 entries from schools across the island. There were 22 finalists in this year’s competition from across 12 counties, from Armagh to Laois to Cork.

Máire Spaight from Tarbert Community School has been named as the runner up of the competition’s Intermediate category, and received a Seamus Heaney Poetry Aloud certificate from the new Director of the NLI, Audrey Whitty for her performance.

The competition has been putting poetry to the forefront of students’ minds since 2007. It has three categories: junior, intermediate, and senior. The prescribed poems for this year were ‘The Gift of Time’ by Tony Curtis (junior); ‘That Hat’ by Nikki Griffin (intermediate) and ‘The Road at my Door’ from WB Yeats’ ‘Meditations in the Time of Civil War’ (senior).

The late Seamus Heaney was a significant supporter of the competition, citing the extraordinary way in which the competition seeks to celebrate the joy of speaking and listening to poetry, as well as the fact that there is a strong North-South dimension to the competition.

Commenting, Bríd O’Sullivan of the NLI’s Learning and Outreach Department said: “Poetry Aloud aims to celebrate the art of poetry speaking and to nurture the talented second-level students who practice it. The competition has been a highlight in the National Library of Ireland calendar for more than a decide. We keep the manuscripts of some of Ireland’s greatest poets in our collections, and it is wonderful to hear their works spoken with such emotion and skill during the Poetry Aloud competition each year.

Having the students return to the library after running the competition virtually since 2020 is a delight for us and we are delighted to welcome the students, their teachers and parents back to the NLI. We strive to, as Seamus Heaney put it, bring “poetry into the memory and affections of the young in a way that will make it a lifelong possession and value.”

Speaking about their support of the competition, Moira Cardiff from Poetry Ireland said, “Poetry Ireland is delighted to be back with our partners at the National Library of Ireland for the Poetry Aloud final. It is an absolute pleasure to listen to these young voices from around the country reading their chosen poems.”

“Throughout the competition the level of engagement from both teachers and students has been particularly encouraging and we wish all finalists and indeed participants the best of luck in what promises to be a bright future ahead of them.”

CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS

CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY

Welcome to my weekly column. My name is Caroline and as a certified DóTERRA essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help, guide and support so many people along with their friends and families on their essential oil journey throughout North Kerry and West Limerick. I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind and the Mood and each week I’ll be sharing lots of tips and information on Self-Care, Wellness, Love and Gratitude when using DóTERRA’S essential oils as part of your every day routine.

Start Your Day Well

There is a beginning, middle and an end to each day and this week we look at some ways in which we can get our day off to a positive start by setting our intentions and incorporating dóTERRAS essential oils.

When you awake say out loud or write down in your journal three things you are most Grateful for. Then set your Intention for the day ahead and visualise how you want your day to be. Picture your day running smoothly with Ease, Grace, Joy and Love.

Stretch as you get up out of bed and apply the following essential oils:

• One drop of Wild Orange into the palms of your hands, cup your hands over your face, closing the eyes and inhale deeply. Wild Orange is an uplifting essential oil, increasing positivity within the body and mind. Wild Orange is the oil of abundance allowing you to feel gratitude, happiness, cheer and love.

• One to two drops of Balance to the soles of the feet and massage into the skin. Balance is grounding and evokes feelings of tranquillity while cleansing your energetic field. It helps keep anxious feelings at bay and promotes a whole –body sense of relaxation.

When drinking your morning coffee or water/juice add a drop of Peppermint to it which will increase the body’s energy levels and promote a clear sense of focus. Plan to get some exercise into your day or evening like a walk /swim /dance /sport or gym activity and if life is busy there are some great workout videos on YouTube for you to do at home.

You can check out my Facebook page Caroline’s Pod of Positivity where I have information and videos on DóTERRA’S Essential Oils. To book a consultation or appointment you can reach me on the number and together we will start you on your journey of health and wellness using the oils with my full support and guidance.

My Three Way Method Using DóTerras Oils: Topically: Apply the oils onto your skin particularly on the pulse points and soles of the feet. Aromatically: Place two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffuse the oils in your home, classroom, office space, salons or other places of work and business. Internally: Add the oils to your favourite food, waters and drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue to support your body and mind.

DóTERRA knows that essential oils must be pure and potent in order to best fulfill the needs of those that use them. Too often, essential oils available for purchase contain contaminants and filler substances that weaken the essential oil’s effectiveness. With the sole purpose to provide pure and potent essential oils, doTERRA ensures that their oils are free of harmful contaminants and fillers through the CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade™ protocol. We are so fortunate that DōTerra now have a manufacturing plant in Blar ney Business Park in County Cork and will become a house hold name in Ireland by the year end.

Have a gentle week ahead

MICHEAL HEALY-RAE CALLS FOR FREE PARKING IN LISTOWEL

Independent T.D Michael Healy Rae is calling on Kerry County Council to offer free car parking in Listowel town centre due to the ongoing works that are being carried out.

I was contacted by a number of businesses in Listowel town in relation to this. People are avoiding the town due to the work that is being carried out and the traffic chaos that is ongoing, offering some free hours for parking would entice people to stay and shop local. While I do welcome the work that is being done it is very important that any help from Kerry County Council would be most welcome.

would like to thank the organisers, the

and all who helped, attended and donated. It was a great success in Billy’s memory and we are very grateful to you all

LISTOWEL CREDIT UNION INVITE YOU TO THEIR 50 YEAR CELEBRATION THIS SATURDAY

Listowel Credit Union Ltd., celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Tuesday last March 7th, having survived and experienced many challenges of rapid growth, recessions, austerity legislation and at times restrictive regulation.

We recognise this marvellous achievement, are proud of our past and are extremely grateful to that group of pioneers and individual volunteers who had the vision to set up a Credit Union in Listowel in March 1973.

Their community focused efforts and belief in the Credit Union ethos, supported by members and community has seen our Credit Union grow from very humble beginnings in 1973 with minimal assets of £586.10 (volunteers pooled monies) to assets of €72.4 million as per recent AGM A/C’s, and from 22 members in 1973 to the 16,800 members of today.

The milestone will be formally celebrated at St Marys Church Listowel on Saturday March 11th with the 10.30am dedicated mass to past and present members, staff, Board of Directors and volunteers. Following the mass, the Listowel Arms Hotel will form the backdrop for a number of formal addresses with light bites along with a snapshot of the archives where memorabilia of Listowel Credit Union days gone by will be on display. As current Chairman of the Board of Directors, I would like to extend an invitation to all our former volunteers, staff and directors to join with the current staff and board to our formal celebrations - Leo Daly - Chairperson

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well

As we are all now in a more positive place than we were this time last year this has a positive impact on our overall health and well being. But at the same time there are many things that we may need to continue keeping control over to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

So let us take a look at a few of those:

FOOD

Many of us are now back in the workplace compared to working from home so it is important to establish your own meal time routine again.

Plan your meals in advance and batch cook as this can leave you feeling more organised especially if you have a busy schedule.

Try out some new recipes as variety is the spice of life.... Safefood.ie, and Bord Bia have some nice recipe and meal ideas

Just be mindful of the extra foods and treats you may have in your home as you may be inclined to buy that bit extra to treat yourself .

TREATS

Don’t let the treats become a threat. There are other ways to make yourself feel better such as buying yourself a book or a magazine, treat yourself to a lovely body lotion or a nice bottle of your favourite perfume. Have a pamper night where you can have a relaxing bath, paint the nails or apply a rejuvenating face mask.

ALCOHOL

Limit your alcohol to the weekend’s. That way it can be something you can look forward to. There are also low calorie options available in the alcohol also, such as light beers, low alcohol wine and add your diet and slimline minerals as mixers for spirits.

WEEKENDS

For many people having a structured routine in place from Monday to Friday can be a good thing, but once the weekend comes it can be very easy to let things slip. Plan your weekends and plan to do something nice for yourself that will benefit you. After all it’s important not to let your guard down too much just because it’s the weekend. Remember after all there are 52 weekends in the year

ACTIVITY

The best way to keep fit and active is to get out in the fresh air, whether it is to your local park or beach. Being active will benefit you as it is good for the mind and will give you a positive attitude so you will feel better. When you Feel better you Think better and then you Eat better.

ATTITUDE

What is your attitude at the moment ? Eat all around you and go out of control OR eat mindfully and stay in control. How we think determines how we feel, how we feel determines what we do next.

So think positive, feel positive, be positive.

At the end of the day we are all responsible for ourselves but also to ourselves.

THE REF’S CALL

Memoir of a Rugby Referee

Owen Doyle is an Irish Times columnist and former Irish rugby Test match referee. Here in his frank, revealing and often humorous memoir, The Ref’s Call, he gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the high-pressured world of international rugby.

From the processes involved in becoming a referee, to officiating in the Five Nations, touring Internationals and a World Cup, Doyle takes us through the most memorable matches of his career and how, following his retirement, he became instrumental in coaching the most successful generation of referees in the IRFU’s history.

Covering over forty years of rugby, and written in his own inimitable style, Doyle looks at the challenges facing modern rugby, particularly the issues of concussion and dementia, to give a fascinating insight into the great game, told from a unique perspective.

KERRY CAMOGIE: NATIONAL CAMOGIE LEAGUE DIVISION 2A

Kerry 1-11 -v- Cavan 1-2

Kerry took another step towards a possible league semi-final with a convincing win over a newly promoted Cavan side who have yet to register a point in the campaign. In fairness, Cavan were missing their best player in the veteran Niamh Keenaghan, but Kerry lined out without Ashbourne cup winners Rachel McCarthy in defence and Jackie Horgan up front, as well as talented scorer Amy O’Sullivan. Half-time Kerry 0-6 Cavan 1-01. The Crotta Hurling club was well represented on the team by Aoife Behan (wing back). Kerry travel to Derry next weekend having yet to taste defeat this year and with a chance of a League final still well within their grasp. Throw in is Best wishes to the Kerry players and their management

THE LONG ROAD FROM LISTOWEL ACROSS MUNSTER AS A FINAL IS WITHIN GRASP

LISTOWEL 31 DUNGARVAN 14

After a bruising winter on the road, giant killer underdogs Listowel, are now poised and ready at the Cork City gates in Crosshaven, as their incredible aim to breach the walls and enter Musgrave Park in the Munster Plate Final is only an hour of rugby away!

The Quarter Final at the Town Park: With Spring in Listowel, Dungarvan arrived in force last Sunday to the town park with some of Munsters biggest ever seen U16 players and a serious reputation throughout their pack. They were greeted warmly by the biggest home crowd of the season to support our all conquering underdog heroes. Listowel attacked from the start with the trojan work of the forward pack and the exceptional props John Curtin and Tadhg Mulvihill. Curtin was involved an incredible 4 times in the move before the talented and relentless second row Eamon O’Connor stripped the ball from a ruck and passed onto Curtin who laid it on a plate for outhalf Cathal Byrne to get over the line. This awakened the Dungarvan giants who rampaged over the line to take the lead back at 7 -5 from some well worked penalties and an excellent maul. The war of attrition continued and the well drilled Listowel’s defence stood tall and stood long, against an excellent Dungarvan pack with exceptional performances and turnovers from number 7, Sam Enright and back row Josh Aherne, while scrum half Fionn Byrne, his brother Cathal Byrne and Paul Lacoste on the wing gave a master class in tackling low against the biggest opposition to date.

Listowels line out jumping was exemplary with Mulvihills throwing excellent and quite spectacular heights reached, and great catching from inform second row Ruairi O’ Connell. It was off such a line out that O’ Connell soared and dropped to Fionn Byrne who threw a superb bullet to outhalf Cathal Byrne and the extraordinary partnership of centres Jack Buckley and Michael Coolahan was unleashed, with Coolahan going in under the posts to reclaim the lead with the try converted by the outhalf. Listowel 12 Dungarvan 7.

Listowel now had the momentum and Coolahan kicked for the corner near the Dungarvan try line, after superb running by Full back Jake Rochford putting the opposition under pressure time and again with his pressure vital as their relieving kick was returned with interest, following a great catch from vice captain Fionn Byrne. Captain, number 8 Liam Hanrahan, led the constant charge alongside O‘ Connor, Enright, Mulvihill, Hooker Jason Moriarty, Curtin and Aherne who exerted sustained pressure leading to a Dungarvan Scum. Fionn Byrne, the scrumhalf, immense all day, was electric off the scrum blocking down the opposition outhalf at full stretch, who was attempting to kick clear and Byrne managed somehow to touch down the ball behind the line for one of the most amazing tries of the season.

Listowel 17 Dungarvan 7 at Half Time: The pressure piled on by Dungarvan in the second half was very impressive and the Listowel defence was immense and had to be, an example of this incredible work was shown by centre Jack Buckley, helped greatly by flying winger Ewan Somers in clearing his line to half way. Buckley then followed up his 50m kick, made the tackle on the full back, released the player and made 2 further clear outs to win the penalty for Listowel.

A further break out from Listowel led to the scrum half ankle tapping his opposite number and getting in the tackle only for an incredible rob at speed from John Curtin getting Coolahan away in the centre of the field to go under the posts for his second try. Listowel 24 Dungarvan 7 Dungarvan exerted sustained pressure again to come back at Listowel getting in under the posts to gain back the momentum. Listowel 24 Dungarvan 14. Again Dungarvan came back only to be held up over the line by some incredible Listowel Defence. The starting team was added to greatly by the introductions of the excellent running of versatile Harry Reidy on the wing with Fionn Mcnamara on the opposite side and James Hunt at full back. Carlos Lopez added great running at centre alongside his Spanish counterpart the strong carrying Gonzalo Merino while James Roche made a great impact, also on the wing. The strength and depth of the squad was in full evidence with replacement hooker Ryan Henderson comfortably winning a great heel from a 5m scrum to set up captain Liam Hanrahan to show superb strength to cross the line in the corner at the death, seeing the inform outhalf Cathal Byrne slot over the long range conversion Listowel 31 Dungarvan 14.

Man of the match was Fionn Byrne at scrum half who bullied the scrums, caught the opposite number 8 and scrum half constantly, tackled ferociously, passed accurately with not one of over 100 passes going astray plus getting a superb block down try under high pressure when it was needed.

BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS

Minor Football:

Although very short in numbers our Minor football team travelled to Glenflesk on Saturday last with only 16 players. They battled courageously and were eight points down with six minutes left on the clock but a late scoring spree saw them come away with a share of the spoils on the final score Ballyduff 5 – 7 Glenflesk 4 – 10. Well done to the Team and Management.

County Hurling League:

The top field was the venue for the opening round of the Credit Union sponsored County Senior Hurling league with Lixnaw providing the opposition. Both sides were short a number of players due to the involvement of players with the County Senior & U20 hurlers. Ballyduff introduced a number of players from last year’s minor team and it was great to see Luke Kennelly, Killian Boyle, Stefan Carrig, Aaron Whyte and Rory Whelan make their Senior debuts. However it was Killian Boyle who stole the show displaying a wide range of skills that his Dad (Mikey), or his uncles, would be proud with Killian scoring a penalty, points from frees and a delightful side cut from 50 metres out to fashion a deserved victory on the scoreline of Ballyduff 1 – 20 Lixnaw 0 – 18. Round two takes place this weekend when we travel to Lewis Road, Killarney to take on Dr Crokes time to be confirmed.

Kerry Hurlers: Best of luck to the Kerry Senior Hurling team who travel to Newbridge this weekend to take on the Lily Whites in the Allianz National Hurling League. Victory here would ensure that Kerry would qualify for the latter stages of the League.

Club Membership: Ballyduff GAA Club Membership is now due with the prices as follows; Adult Membership €50; Family membership €80; Juvenile membership €40.

The book is a collection of twenty poems in both Irish and English with illustrations by his anam cara Brenda, formerly Downey from Tarbert and was launched by Dara O’Cinnéide, of Radio na Gaeltachta. Everybody enjoyed the night which featured contributions in music, song and verse from Gabriel and friends. DOG FOULING

It has been brought to my notice that dog fouling is now a problem on the footpath walk on the Island road despite signs and collection points for dog litter. The people, young and old who enjoy this amenity walk should not have to suffer this potential health hazard. The clear message is that if your dog does his business then you his owner must do your business and clean up the mess.

Emmets Results

Keane’s Supervalu County Minor League – Div 2B Emmets 1-12 Milltown Castlemaine 1-10 The minors made it three from three in their county league clash with Milltown Castlemaine at home on Saturday last, this was a highly entertaining game with both teams giving it their all and the bare minimum between the sides at the small whistle Milltown Castlemaine 0-6 Emmets 0-5. Conor Sweeney levelled things up on the resumption but the pendulum began to sway in favour of the visitors as they took the next 3 scores, with their full forward taking a fine goal as Emmets defence were in disarray. It was the nudge the home side needed with some fine fielding from Aaron Kennelly saw their attack take good scores from Harry Reidy and Aaron Carey. Pa Walsh was now operating on the 40 and aided the Emmets attack as he drove forward at every opportunity finding Conor Sweeney and Ajay Barrett who converted. As the game entered the final few minutes Aaron Kennelly again fielded a good ball and drove forward he collected a pass from Aaron Carey and hit the back of the net putting Emmets into a two point lead. Milltown continued to billow down on the Emmets defence but they dealt with what came in front of them and Emmets held on for a two point victory, they now meet with Kerins O’Rahilly’s away this Saturday at 3pm in Strand Road. Well done to the boys on a great team performance.

NK Division 1 League Final: Emmets 1-12 Castleisland Desmonds 0-13

Emmets travelled to Brosna last Sunday to meet with Desmonds in a repeat of the North Kerry Championship final. Both teams started brightly and exchanged scores with Daragh Lynch in particular showing well ably assisted by Davy Keane. Half time score Emmets 0-7 Desmonds 0-6. Desmonds took the two scores of the second half and Emmets quickly responded and that was the tale of the majority of the third quarter with Adam O’Donoghue and Bryan Sweeney trading scores. Joe Joe Grimes hit home his first and on the kick out Emmets continued to press turning over ball and Eddie Browne found the back of the net on 27th minute, Desmonds responded with two more points as Emmets ran out winners by two. Again, a great team performance from the seniors as Darragh Leahy and Niall Collins were presented the North Kerry League Cup from Deirdre McCarthy of McCarthy Insurance Group.

Emmets Fixtures: Keane’s Supervalu County Minor League – Div 2B Round 4: Kerin’s O’Rahillys V Emmets Saturday 11th March 3pm, Strand Rd.

BEALE GAA

Beale minors put in another great team performance in their third County League match. It can be truly said that they are improving as time goes on. After a long bus trip to Valentia Island on Saturday last, the Beale boys earned our first points of the County League campaign with a hard-fought draw. The match was played in perfect weather conditions. We started brightly and were leading three points to one after 10 minutes. However, the home side dominated the next 20 minutes and notched up 1-5 to lead by four points at half time.

At the interval, our side-line asked for more intensity and effort from the players, and they duly responded with greater effort in the second half. At one stage early in the second half, we were behind by 6 points. We rallied by applying greater pressure,, forcing turnovers and by winning more kick outs. We got a foothold in the game and hit back with a goal and a point to leave only two points between the teams

The home team responded with a point to stretch the lead to three points. We did not give up and pressed forward again as the home team wilted under the pressure, and we won a kickout to create a good attacking move. We cut through the home defence to score the equalising point.

Our boys had managed to eke out a draw which they deserved, 1-12 apiece. This gives our players a boost as they face into their two remaining games in the County League. Ournext round game is on Saturday at 3 o’clock against St Senans in Páirc de Staic. Then our final round game is away to Firies on March 18th.

Beale seniors contest County League, Division 4, again this year. Our first game is on St Patrick’s weekend when we host Sneem/Derrynane. Then, at the beginning of April, we host Cromane and travel to St Senans at Easter. Teams in our group for the Junior Championship are Knocknagoshel, Kilgarvanand Reenard. We travel to Renard for our first game. Details to be confirmed.

Match Report by Mairead O Sullivan

The final was played on Sunday last with a perfect day for football in the perfect setting in Brosna, We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Brosna Club for the use of their facilities and providing refreshments on the day. With the two top teams in the district it promised to be an exciting encounter and that is what we got. In the opening minutes it was Emmets on the scoreboard with a free converted by David Keane, with some wayward shooting on both sides it took until the 7th minute for Emmets Darragh Lynch to spilt the posts form a long distance point, again it was the Emmets men who were on attack and this time it was wing forward Cormac Mulvihill who added to the scoreboard to bring his side three points clear. Emmets brought pace and intensity to the pitch that Desmonds found it hard to come to terms with. It was a late inclusion to program of Desmonds Brian Leornard who opened their scoring in the 10th minute splitting the posts. Emmets man of the match David Keane replied in the 12th minute. But for all Emmets dominance, you could see the tide turning with two quick points from Desmonds in the 13th and 15th minutes from captain Luka Brosnan and Maurice Hickey to leave the minimal between the teams. But it was the David Keane show in the first half and Keane added two more points in the 19th and 21st minutes, a point from a free and a well taken mark, his team mate and full forward Jake Moriarty fisted the ball over the bar in the 28th minute for the last score of the half for Emmets. But Desmonds weren’t gone away and added three points to their tally between the 20th minute and the final whistle a point a piece from Fintan O Sullivan, Denis O Connor and Tomas Lynch. The half time score after 32 minutes of play Emmets 0.07 v Desmonds 0.06

It was Desmonds who opened the score board with a fisted point from P.J Curtin to bring the game level in the opening minute, for the first time in the match Desmonds went a point ahead in the 2nd minute with a point from Adam O Donoghue, Emmets David Keane level affairs again with a converted free in the 5th minute, but 30 seconds later Desmonds Brian Leonard replied. The intensity levels on and off the pitch notched up and it was end to end stuff from these two teams, both sides adding a point each to bring Desmonds a point up. But again the industrious Darragh Lynch split the posts for Emmets to level proceedings once more. There was nothing between these sides and the supporters in the stand raised the noise levels to spur on their team and the first to respond was Emmets Brian Sweeney with a fisted point in the 17th minute, Emmets were now starting to filter back in numbers when Desmonds were in attack forcing Desmonds to shoot from distance which added to the frustration of the Desmonds forwards. It took until the 20th minute for the next score a fisted point form Desmonds Adam Donoghue, but in quick reply the returning Joe Joe Grimes split the posts for Emmets to bring his side a point clear. But just as things were hotting up and into the 27th minute of the half the reigning North Kerry Champions found the back of the Desmonds net from the boot of Eddie Browne to a roar from the stand, the Emmets tails were up and all they had to do now was defend. Desmonds are not a team to drop their head and and into injury time they continued to attack adding on two more points from play a point each from Denis O Connor and sub Tadhg O’Shea. Full time score Emmets 1.12 v Desmonds 0.13. I have no doubt that these two sides will meet again this year and we look forward to that encounter already. The cup was presented on behalf of McCarthy Insurance Group by Deirdre McCarthy to joint captains Niall Collins and Darragh Leahy. With a word of congratulations and thanks from Chairwoman Mairead O Sullivan.

Referee: Denis Kennelly Moyvane.

OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven.

Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity

(Mention your request here)

There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3 times). Amen

This prayer is never known to fail. It is to be said for 3 consecutive days. Publication on granting of the favour must be promised and done. T.C.

MEANING OF LIFE

The headline of the newspaper some days ago read “Dead on both sides of civil war in Kerry commemorated.”

The war which has been described as Ireland’s greatest tragedy, a story of failure and disruption, bitterness and antagonism, the unspeakable war, left Irish society divided and embittered for generations. A sad legacy.

We are all indebted to those brave people who died for Ireland so that we, one hundred years on, can live in freedom.

This got me thinking.

As a bible believing Christian l believe that over 2000 years ago Jesus died. He didn’t just die for Ireland. He died for every person, ever born, everywhere. And He left a legacy of forgiveness, salvation, kindness, sincere humbleness, and perfect love. Regardless of whether we are born into a free country or a country under oppression, we are all born slaves to sin according to the Word of God. Ecclesiastes 7:20 says “ Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins. “

Our sin nature separates us from God. But God, by the death and resurrection of His Beloved Son Jesus “ .... has rescued us from the dominion of

darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14

It’s wonderful to live in a country free from slavery and oppression where we can enjoy civil liberties and many social advantages. But there’s a greater freedom available. 2 Corinthians 3:17 tells us “Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.” When we accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour of our life it means we are no longer controlled by sinful desires. Roman’s 6:22-23 puts it like this, “But now, having been set free from sin .....(you have) the gift of God... eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.”

We have the freedom to choose how we live our life. In the book of Deuteronomy 30:19 God advises, tells us “.....l have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life that you and your descendants may live.”

The One, True and Living God is for us and not against us

THE MIRACLE PRAYER

Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours.

This time I ask you this special one, (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen.

Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. W.J.

PRECIOUS MOTHER OF JESUS

Mother of Devine Grace, You can find a way where there is no way, please hear my prayer and grant my request. Amen. Say 6 times a day for 3 days.

M.K.
