BUDGET INTRODUCED ALLOWANCES FOR CONSTRUCTING SLURRY STORAGE
By Mike Rohan, FDC Group
Budget 2023 announced a new scheme for farmers to allow for accelerated allowances for capital expenditure incurred on the construction of slurry storage facilities and certain associated capital items.
The scheme is designed to incentivise farmers to construct slurry storage facilities to allow for increased volumes to be stored.
This increased slurry storage is intended to reduce reliance on imported chemical fertilisers and to improve water and air quality.
Ballydonoghue/Lisselton Wren
handed over the proceeds €2,465 from their St Stephen’s Day collection to Listowel Hospice recently. They provided wonderful outdoor entertainment for passersby in Lisselton with an array of musical instruments, which was enjoyed by all. Huge thanks from Listowel Hospice to the Wren Group for their generosity of time and talent. And sincere thanks to all who supported this event.
Included in picture are Seamus Kelly, Danny Carroll, Jenny Tarrant, Eamon O’Neill, John Walsh, Tom Enright, Katie Joyce, Betty Joyce, Pat O’Donnell, Áine Hegarty, John Nolan, Eileen Sheehy Treasurer Kerry Hospice, Pat Lyons and Jackie Hegarty. Others involved but missing for the presentation were TP McNamara, Eileen Kelly, John McGrath, Fiona Fogarty, Aileen O’Neill, Shauna Nolan, Emily Nolan, Joanne O’ Riordan and Dan Foley.
All working towards the government’s plans to improve the environmental sustainability of farming.
Typically, slurry storage construction building costs are deducted from farming profits over a period of seven years through capital allowances, at a rate of 15% in years one to six and 10% in the final year.
In the case of plant and equipment, capital allowances are available at 12.5% over eight years.
The accelerated capital allowance scheme will allow for a deduction of up to 50% per year over the first two years.
This allows for a quicker tax deduction ie over a shorter period, rather than enhancing the tax relief, such as granting a double deduction.
The advantage of accelerating the capital allowances is that farmers achieve a higher saving at the beginning of the project, which aids the funding of the construction costs if a taxpayer has fewer outgoings in income tax, especially where the project is either funded from cash flow or over short-term finance.
Budget 2023 indicated that the scheme would be available on eligible costs incurred during the three-year period running from January 1st 2023 to December 31st 2025.
Due to delays at an EU level, presently the legislation states that the expenditure is to be incurred before June 30th 2023.
The Department of Finance expect that legislation will be revised to state the correct dates in advance of that date.
Tax relief on this scheme is claimed through your annual income /corporation tax return.
The aggregate amount of relief granted shall not exceed €500,000 over the threeyear period.
The following slurry storage-related items are eligible for accelerated allowances should they meet with the relevant specifications: Floors and walls of slurry collecting and storage buildings used to house livestock; mass and precast concrete tanks, circular stores, geo-membrane lined stores – all of which must have a roof or cover; farmyard manure pit with roof or cover; collecting and enclosure yards – slurry collecting structure used for holding animals whilst they are waiting to be milked or to be handled; automatic slurry scrappers; simple slurry aeration system.
Individual circumstances vary. If you are unsure of the best course of action, please do talk to your accountant before making any decisions.

CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS
CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY
Welc Welcome to my weekly column. My name is Caroline and as a certified DóTERRA essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help, guide and support so many people along with their friends and families on their essential oil journey throughout North Kerry and West Limerick over the last three years. I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind and the Mood and each week I’ll be sharing lots of tips and information on Self-Care, Wellness, Love and Gratitude when using DóTERRA’S essential oils as part of your every day routine.
A Restful Night’s Sleep with Feelings of Calm and Relaxation –Sounds Good?
So, this week I want to talk about dóTerra’s Clary Sage essential oil and how it is known for its calming abilities to the body. It dates to the Middle Ages and it includes relaxing and soothing properties that can help with the rejuvenation and calming of the skin. It is also a beautiful body balancing essential oil. When Clary Sage is diffused in any one room of your home, it adds to a relaxing environment, and it can be sprayed onto the bed linen & curtains before sleep-time when mixed with cooled boiled water. When Clary Sage is taken internally, by means of adding one drop to a small amount of water and drinking it, it can be a great natural aid to the body to promote a restful night’s sleep. During a menstrual cycle, Clary Sage should be applied to the abdomen area with some carrier oil – I recommend using fractionated coconut oil and massaged into this area for a soothing relief. DóTerras Clary Sage is very relaxing when added to a warm bath and provides a stress-relieving soak! Clary Sage can be added to your shampoo and hair conditioner to promote healthy hair and scalp and works great when you mix it with dóTerra’s Rosemary and Lavender essential oils.
The Clary Sage plant can grow up to six feet in height and is steam distilled from the flower part of the plant. DóTerra’s Clary Sage oil comes in a 15ml size bottle which contains 285 drops of pure unadulterated essential oil. This means that all the dóTerra essential oils are 100% pure and do not contain any harsh chemicals, substances, or alcohols. This beautiful Clary Sage oil also works on our emotions and can assist individuals in changing their perceptions and gives oneself courage to see the truth. It is one of the finest oils for the brow chakra and helps open the soul to new possibilities and experiences. I personally love wearing this oil as a perfume, and I apply one to two drops behind my ears, on to my wrist points, the back of my neck and even the collar of my shirt or blouse. You can check out my Facebook page Caroline’s Pod of Positivity or reach me on the number below for more information on getting and using DóTERRA’S Essential Oils. To book a consultation or an oil experience appointment you can reach me on the number and together we will start you on your journey of health and wellness using the oils with my full support and guidance.
My Three Way Method Using DóTerras Oils:
Topically: Apply the oils onto your skin particularly on the pulse points and soles of the feet. Aromatically: Place two to three drops into a coldwater diffuser and diffuse the oils in your home, classroom, office space, salons or other places of work and business. Internally: Add the oils to your favourite food, waters and drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue to support your body and mind.
DóTERRA knows that essential oils must be pure and potent in order to best fulfill the needs of those that use them. Too often, essential oils available for purchase contain contaminants and filler substances that weaken the essential oil’s effectiveness. With the sole purpose to provide pure and potent essential oils, doTERRA ensures that their oils are free of harmful contaminants and fillers through the CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade™ protocol. We are so fortunate that DōTerra now have a manufacturing plant in Blarney Business Park in County Cork and will become a household name in Ireland by the year end.
Though for the week ahead: ‘When you start to take care of yourself, you start feeling better, you start looking better and you start to attract better. It all starts with you’

MAYOR SALUTES TARBERT WOMAN’S ACHIEVEMENTS IN NEW YORK
The Mayor of Kerry, Cllr. John Francis Flynn, who is visiting New York, has welcomed the announcement (March 15) of Government support of €500,000 for the redevelopment of Gaelic Park in The Bronx, which continues to have strong Kerry associations. The redevelopment project is being led by Tarbert native Joan Henchy, chairperson of New York GAA, whom Mayor Flynn saluted at a function in the Irish Consulate. Earlier, Tánaiste & Minister for Foreign Affairs, Michael Martin TD confirmed ‘the Government’s support for the $4.5 million project in The Bronx under the Emigrant Support Programme.
Speaking to the Kerry County Council delegation, Joan Henchy said the works would secure the future of Gaelic Park. Two million dollars have already raised or committed and with the Government funding she was confident that the project could be completed by the centenary of Gaelic Park in 2026. She expressed her appreciation for the support she received from the Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD and GAA Headquarters in Dublin. Gaelic Park was purchased by the New York GAA in 1926 and operated by the famous John Kerry O’Donnell from West Kerry for 50 years from 1941. Joan’s father, former Senator Dan Kiely, was very involved in Gaelic Park when he was based in New York.
Joan Henchy was born in Yonkers, NY but raised in Tarbert, and has been a force in the New York GAA and her beloved Kerry Football Club for more than two decades, holding various leadership positions and devoting countless hours to helping both organizations thrive. In 2019 she became the first female chairperson of New York GAA and was last month awarded the GAA President’s international award for her long service to New York GAA.

SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well
Very often when we decide to try something, whether it’s for the 1st time or the 10th time we never know where it can take us, as each time can be different with a different outcome. Setting out to achieve weight loss and overall wellness can be compared to that of a journey.
Your weight loss and wellness journey may go through different phases and speeds at various times also. For example do you remember as a child learning to ride a bike for the first time. It was exciting yet scary and you were probably a bit wobbly, but once you got going it was so easy and you loved it. A little bit like your weight loss and wellness journey on our San Rita Wellness plan, once you start to see and feel the pounds coming off it’s a fantastic feeling too. But like everything else sticking to the guidelines is key in order to achieve the outcome we want.
There are six key areas that we need to be mindful of: Planning, Shopping, Tracking, Cooking, Walking Water
1...Planning: Planning in advance is like mapping out a route to give you direction. It could be like planning your meals in advance, Planning out some short term goals with your weight loss, Planning out some time for yourself like a walk in the park.
2...Shopping: What we put in our shopping trolley end up on the kitchen table, and what ends up on the table we are more likely to eat. We are easily tempted especially around Easter time when we do go into the supermarket with the wide range chocolate etc available. Make a list of what you really need to buy and think about how it can help you to have the right foods to hand, compared to buying other things that will only set you back on your weight loss journey.
3...Tracking: Keep a track of various things such as your food choices, your calorie allowance, your body measurements and how you feel are all key in helping you to progress. We not alone learn from the good choices we make, but we also learn from the not so good choices also.
4...Cooking: When lockdown first came into our lives many of us found ourselves cooking and indeed baking more. There are two sides to this however which may have helped or not helped. Trying out new recipes and ideas can add more interest to our meals, as it can sometimes be very easy to keep eating the same kind of foods over and over which can result in boredom and lack of variety
5...Walking: Walking can be so beneficial to our overall health and wellbeing for many reasons. Firstly it costs nothing to put on a pair of comfortable shoes. Being outdoors in the fresh air leaves us feeling energised, invigorated and motivated. With the clocks going forward this weekend this gives us an extra hour of brightness in the evenings which we should take advantage of.
6...Water: The recommended amount of water we require is between a litre and a half to two litres a day. Very often we can think we are hungry when in fact we could be more thirsty than hungry. Tips to help you drink more water would be to keep it at room temperature or try adding in some no added sugar cordial to your water.
As we said in the beginning your weight loss and wellness journey may go at different speeds at different times. You may even hit a bump on the road which can cause a flat tyre, which you will need to repair in order to get moving forward again in the right direction.
Tools of the trade
Puncture repair kit - To fix a bad day to make it a better week.
Bicycle wheel pump - To keep your motivation pumped when it gets flat. A road map - To know where you want to go and how to get there.

KERRY SENIOR HURLERS
The Kerry senior hurlers had a home game to Down on Sunday 19th March in the Allianz National League Div 2A Round 5 and had a one-point victory Kerry 1-20 to Down 1-19. The manner in which the victory over Down was achieved too, coming from behind in the last quarter, with some sensational scores, and a brilliant goal from Jordan Conway, will provide a real shot in the arm for this bunch of hurlers.
While far from a vintage display in the round, the way the Kingdom rounded out that game will give them huge encouragement ahead of next weekend’s trip to Tullamore to face Offaly in the semi-final. The home side led by 0-12
to 0-9 at the interval break. The Crotta Hurling club was represented by Cillian Trant and Jordan Conway (1-02) who both came on as subs, Sean Weir was also a member of the Kerry panel.
Kerry travel to Glenisk O’Connor Park, Offaly for the 2023 Allianz Hurling League Division 2A Semi-Final against Offaly on Saturday 25th March at 2.00p.m Best wishes to the Kerry players and their management.

Moyvane lost two of its senior citizens recently, Bridie Moloney of Leitrim Middle and Phyllis O’Connor, Kilbaha, both wonderful ladies and both were well enough to live in their own homes with their families. Bridie cycled her bike to the village for many, many years, I would say into her seventies. She was a regular at Bingo and attended Senior citizen events. Herself and her late husband, Michael always went to Listowel on Thursday, Mart day. She is survived by her sons James and Thomas and James’ wife, Mary. Phyllis O’Connor came to live in Kilbaha with her husband Mike in their retirement. Mike was a native of Kilbaha. She was a lovely quiet but chatty lady and like Bridie, she attended the senior citizens events in North Kerry/West Limerick. Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Breda & Mena, sons Eddie & Tony, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. May they both rest in peace, reunited with their husbands of many, many years.

BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS
County Football League: Keel were visitors to Ballyduff on Sunday last in Round 1 of the Credit Union sponsored County Senior Football League Division 4. The game was played in poor weather conditions in the top field. Ballyduff were playing against a strong wind and driving rain in the first half and had the better of the exchanges early on. However, Keel came on strong in the second quarter and led 1 – 5 to 0 – 2 at halftime. Ballyduff upped their game and points from Kevin O’Connor frees and Jack O’Sullivan from play plus an exhibition of point scoring from Kevin Goulding from frees and from play left the home side a point in arrears in injury time. As Ballyduff tried hard for the equaliser it came when Kevin O’Connor was fouled 40 metres out, and much to the delight of the home crowd, he sent the resultant free straight over the black spot to leave the final score Keel 1 – 7 to 0 – 10. The next game in the County Football League is on the weekend of April 1st/2nd.

LÁ LE PÁDRAIG
It was nice to see a large turnout of participants and on-lookers for the traditional St Patrick’s Day parade when thankfully the morning drizzle cleared for the event. The old adage that everyone is Irish on Lá le Pádraig was borne out with a good turnout of our Ukrainian guests and some Chinese children all attired in the Green with their own colours. The parade moved off from the Fire Station after the 11.30am Mass led by a suitably attired St Patrick imparting his blessing and keeping his eye out for snakes along the way. Among those taking part were the GAA in all age groups, the Tarbert LGFA,
the Tarbert Shannonsiders, Tarbert PTAA, Tarbert Pier Swimmers, the Ferry Rangers, the Swanky Bar, the Fairies, Coiste na Nóg, the Clean Coasts. There was also a vintage tractor and a large model of Tarbert lighthouse on view. The Parade was organised and stewarded by Tarbert Development Association and well done to everybody for taking part and keeping the tradition alive. It was nice also to see the windows along the route displaying the green- Helen’s Hairdressing Salon was artistically reflecting the Feast Day look while across the street Mary Coolahan’s big window was a showcase of all that was best in terms of Irish music, culture, heritage, story agus an Gaeilge against the backdrop of Limerick and Kerry flags. The Tidy Towns window was also bedecked with green shamrocks while not forgetting the message of bio-diversity.

BEALE GAA
A large crowd watched Beale seniors secure the points in our opening round game of the County League, Division 4, on a bright St Patrick’s Day in Páirc de Staic, when we overcame Sneem/Derrynane. We were first off the mark on the scoresheet and our opponents swiftly replied. Points from placed ball gave us the edge and we were four points to the good at the short whistle, 0-8 to 0-4.
The teams exchanged points early in the second half and Sneem/Derrynane reduced our lead to just two after twenty minutes. We then took the game by the scruff of the neck. Our defence were in control, keeping our opponents scoreless and ensured good movement of ball outfield. We went on to score a further three points without reply and ended the game with a five-point advantage, 0-12 to 0-7.
Our next game is at the beginning of April when we host Cromane and then we travel to play St Senans at Easter. Teams in our group for the Junior Championship are Knocknagoshel, Kilgarvan and Reenard. We travel to Renard for our first game. Details to be confirmed.
Beale minors played their final round County League, Division 6B, game in Firies on Saturday last. We won the toss and opted to play with the strong breeze in the first half. This worked to our advantage as we went on the attack right from the start.
Our boys launched a number of brilliant attacks at speed, with great interplay, to cut through the Firies’ defence. Unfortunately, our forwards did not have their scoring boots on, and the team racked up a number of bad wides. However, we still managed to score 1-4, with a well-taken goal and some good points. Firies were a resilient bunch and scored four points on counter attacks. Nevertheless, we had the advantage and were ahead by a goal at half time.
The second half had the home side now playing with the breeze and they took full advantage of it to reel us in and draw level. We still continued to attack but could not make it count on the scoreboard. Firies opened up our defence and scored a goal to go three points ahead. Our boys did not give up and they managed to get a point to leave only two points between the teams. We continued to press but could not make our possession count. Firies counterattacked and took their chance to extend the lead again to three points. We launched one more attack to try get that all-elusive goal, but, alas, to no avail. The final whistle blew as a goal yet again separated the sides, with Firies winning by three points, 1-5 to 1-8.
It was a hard defeat for the boys to take as they had played well for most of the game. Scores win games and Beale were found wanting in the scoring department, unlike Firies who were much more clinical in the firing department. Beale team and scores: Brian Dineen, Killian Scanlan, Con Fitzsimons, Kean O’Keeffe, Nathan Austin, Dara O’Connor, Fiachra Buckley, Cormac Scanlan, Daithí Keane Tyrrell (0-1), Shay Murphy (1-0), Chris Kiely (0-2(f)), Charlie Ryan, Oran O’Sullivan and Leigh Meehan (0-2(1f)).
This ends the team’s County League campaign. We were very competitive in three of our games and could have had at least one win. This is the first Beale minor team in three years, so it is great to see Beale competing at this level again. The team now have a break from competitive action for a number of weeks with the North Kerry League coming up next.
We also look forward to the exploits of Brian Dinneen, Chris Kiely and Daithí Keane Tyrrell, who will be lining out with the North Kerry minors. We wish the lads and their teammates all best in the upcoming County Championship, as they set about retaining their county title.

FINUGE GAA
PITCH remains closed to all activity until the end of March. It has seen a lot of action over the past 8 weeks and needs a rest to get it back into shape ahead of the various competiitive fixtures coming up.
SENIOR: The Credit Union sponsored county league swung into action last weekend on Sunday 19th of March, with an away trip to Laune Rangers B. A tight low scoring game in tough weather conditions went right down to the wire. Finuge were leading right at the end, when Laune Rangers popped over the leveling score to finish the game on 7 points each and a share in the league points. Next up is a home game against Ballylongford next weekend the 2nd of April, details TBC.
MINORS: The back game against Knock/Brosna was played last Wednesday the 15th at Knockanure pitch. Knock/Brosna are strong at this grade and so it proved on the night. Our lads were missing a few players which meant it was always going to be a big ask. Final score Finuge 1-02 to K/B 3-14. This was quickly followed with an away game to Beaufort on Saturday 18th of March, which was the final round of phase 1. Having a bigger panel of players it meant the boys were able to make a good account of themselves. Beaufort proved too strong and the game finished Finuge 3-07 to Beaufort’s 6-09. The team that played were Sean Spink, Fionn Morrissey, Gearoid O’Sullivan, D McCarthy, Aidan O’Mahony, P O’Donoghue, Mark McElligott, Gavin O’Keeffe, M O’Flaherty, Ivan Conway, Cillian O’Sullivan, Kieran Stack, Mikey Fealy, Lee Caffrey, M O’Sullivan. There is one outstanding game against Reenard/St Marys which we awaiting confirmation of how it concludes. This team are very young and the majority are under age against next year and even the year after, so this is a really great experience for them!
U15: First game home to Sneem/Derrynane/Templenoe/Tousist next week on Wednesday the 29th of March - best of luck to the lads for the season ahead.
U13: The team played out an entertaining challenge with Knock / Brosna last Sunday. Plenty to do for both teams for the season ahead! CUMMAN NA MBUNSCOIL mini sevens were held last week and our boys and girls were in action representing multiple schools that included Dromclough, Lixnaw, Killocrim, Gael Scoil Lios Tuathail and Kilflynn - I may even have missed more! Congratulations to Dromclough who won the North Kerry regional boys final and special mention to our players involved Tommy Corridan and Corey Heaphy.
ASDEE GAA
Credit Union County League Division 5 Asdee 0-06 Kilgarvan. 1-05 Our senior footballers made the long trek to Kilgarvan on Sunday last in Round 1 of the Credit Union County Football League and after a low scoring game the home team just edged out the visitors by a single point. Certainly, when Asdee will reflect back on the game they will rue all the scoring opportunities squandered from well within their range. After a dogged opening half in which the sides were locked together at 1pt a piece at the break and this continued well into the second half with very little to separate these two evenly matched teams. However, Kilgarvan got the most crucial score of the game in the 36mt when a great run from Kilgarvan corner back Denis Twomey up the field and found the back of the net that helped them lead for the remainder of the encounter. Asdee did battle hard but certainly the team showed a vast improvement from their North Kerry League campaign and could very well have at least got something out of the game only for poor finishing. Team and subs; James Kelly, Martin Collins, John Daly, Patrick Mulvihill, Sean Keane, Shay Doran, Kieran Kelly, John Doran, Eoin Kennedy, Darragh Keane, 2pts. Paul O Carroll, 4pts, Cyril Dineen, Jack Hannon, Stephen Lynch. Subs; Brian Coughlan, Michael Walsh, Denny Dalton.

All-Ireland Champion: A great honour was bestowed on the local St. Marys, Asdee GAA Club and the Keane Family of Tullahinell recently when Brendan Keane, who is attending the Salesion Agricultural, College, Pallaskenery, County Limerick (Sponsors Grassland Agro) and the youngest of a great footballing family. Brendan who plays his football with Asdee played a pivotal role in his schools All Ireland football victory played at the University of Limerick regaining the Cup they last won in 1996. An enthralling semi-final against Teagasc Clonakilty Agricultural College County Cork, saw them run out 2-point winners on a score line of 1-15 to 3-07 AET. This set up a captivating final against Mountbellew Agricultural College, Galway with the final score of 1-10 to 1-07 in which the Asdee man excelled all through. Brendan received his All-Ireland medal at a presentation function recently where he also received his Footballer of the year Award from Eamon O Flaherty. No doubt but Brendan who was a star player at under age from under 12 level up along and was a member of the North Kerry Under20 squad that were defeated in the County Final in 2022. Brendan has a great footballing future ahead of him and as a crafty forward as he is will surely give opposing opponents plenty to think about in the years ahead.

County Minor Football League Division 2A Result, Saturday 18th March. Kilcummin 3-10, Tarbert 2-06.
Tarbert u17s suffered their 1st defeat of the Co. League against a Kilcummin side who had won all their games.
With both sides guaranteed a semi-final place before the fixture, the only contest was about who would secure home advantage for the semi-final. Tarbert played with the strong wind in the 1st half but failed to take advantage of the elements and went into halftime a point down 0-06 to 0-05 with all Tarbert’s scores coming from the boot of Caolam Moriarty.
Tarbert started the 2nd half strongly with a fine point from play from Conor Egan. Kilcummin responded with a goal to put them 3 points up. Shaun Wren goaled for Tarbert level the game at 1-06 a piece. Adam Enright scored a goal for Tarbert to put Tarbert back in the ascendancy but this was to be their last score of the hame with Kilcummin able to bring on fresh players in the final quarter and they scored 1-04 without reply to leave the final score 3-10 to 2-06. Through suspension, injury and illness Tarbert had only 14 players available for the 2nd week in a row and great credit is due to the players who gave their all for the red and black and never gave up.
The Co. League Div 2 semi-final will be on Monday 3rd April, and Tarbert are probably going to be away to Listowel but this fixture will be confirmed in the coming days. Team: Aaron White, Thady Mulvihill, Shane Stack, Dylan Kennedy, Conor Egan(0-01), Mikie Carmody, Michael Coolahan, David Mulvihill, Adam Enright(1-00), Shaun Wren(1-00), Lee Moriarty, Caolam Moriarty(0-05), Jack Walsh, Pa Dillon.
County Senior Football League Division 4 Result. Sunday 19th March, Tarbert 1-05, St Senans 0-04. Tarbert got off to the perfect start in Division 4 with a home victory over St Senans.
Shannonside Tarbert LGFA Club:
U14 Ladies County League Division 8, Result & Match Report Sunday 19th March. Shannonside 4-03, Laune Rangers B 3-05
Our U14s took to the field today in the first ever Shannonside ladies football match and they produced a hugely entertaining football match against Laune Rangers, winning by 1 point at the end. In difficult conditions for both sides, it was a credit to both Shannonside and Laune Rangers players that they produced a highly entertaining game throughout. Shannonside started brightly and had two goals scored inside the first 10 minutes, both goals coming from the boot of Ali Sheehan. Laune Rangers got more into the game at this stage and registered their first score to leave Shannonside leading by 2-01 to 0-01 mid way through the first half.
Rēaltin O Sullivan produced some outstanding saves in goals for Shannonside in the first half which kept the home side in the game. However Laune Rangers drew level and the sides went in at half time on a scoreline of 3-01 to 3-01.
On the resumption Ali Sheehan scored another point for the home side but Laune Rangers started brightly in the second half and put the home side under pressure when they tagged on four unanswered points to put the away side three points ahead with five minutes remaining. Hillary Barrett scored a point from a free to put only two points between the sides with only two minutes left on the clock. A great team move involving Abi O Brien, Hillary Barrett & Niamh Halton resulted in Ali Sheehan scoring her and Shannonsides fourth goal to put the homeside ahead by 1 point with only seconds remaining. There were huge celebrations among the players and supporters when the referee blew for full time as Shannonside recorded their first victory.
The entire panel of players contributed hugely to this win. There was a ‘never give up’ attitude from the girls from the first whistle and they can be hugely proud of themselves after this victory.

This put the girls through to the semi-finals in the afternoon in Castleisland. Duagh/Lyre went on to play Castleisland in the semi-final and put in a courageous display but just came up short. In their final game of the day Duagh/Lyre met Abbeydorney/Kilflynn for the third and fourth place playoff. MEANING OF LIFE
“I can’t chat now, we have visitors calling and l’ve nothing ready!” said my friend.
A neighbour told me her daughter was waiting for a call to a job interview. And someone else l spoke to was expecting a call regarding his upcoming surgery
Last week it seemed that everyone l met.... including myself...... was waiting for a call from one source or another.
Some calls can be pleasant, some, life changing for the good , and some can turn our world upside down.
It got me thinking.
There is Someone Who spends our entire life calling on us.....to call on Him.
THE MIRACLE PRAYER
Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours.
This time I ask you this special one, (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen.
Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. P.M.
PRECIOUS MOTHER OF JESUS
Mother of Devine Grace, You can find a way where there is no way, please hear my prayer and grant my request. Amen. Say 6 times a day for 3 days.
M.K.
OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven.
Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity
(Mention your request here)
There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3 times). Amen
This prayer is never known to fail. It is to be said for 3 consecutive days. Publication on granting of the favour must be promised and done. T.C.
It never ceases to amaze me that the One,True and Living God calls us, over and over and over again to call upon Him. He wants to bless us and offers us the free gift of salvation.
In Psalm 91:15 God says to us “ When you call to Me l will answer you. I will be with you in trouble;l will rescue you and honour you.”
That’s incredible. God wants to honour us! In Jeremiah 33:3 He says ”Call to Me and l will answer you and tell you great and hidden things....”
In fact He tells us in Isaiah 65:24 that He will answer us before we call on Him. He says “Before they call(that’s us) l will answer, while they are yet speaking l will hear.”
Psalm 145:18 is so clear. It reads “ The Lord is near to all who call on Him...”
And likewise Psalm 86:5 which says “For You, Oh God are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon You.”
In the Gospel of John 15:15 He goes even further: He tells those of us who want to listen “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know His Master’s business. Instead (listen to this!!) Instead l have called you friends, for everything that l have learned from My Father,l have made known to you.”
That is mind blowing!
But wait! There’s even a more astonishing statement from Him. In Romans 10:13 it is written “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Notice,we need to call out to Him. That’s our job. We have the choice, we have the decision to make, to ask Him, to call out to Him.
How long will He wait? Isaiah 30:18 tells me “The Lord still waits for you to come to Him so He can show you His love.”
We foolishly keep our Lord and Saviour waiting. However in Acts 22:16 the apostle Paul urges us; ”And now, why do you wait? Rise and be baptised and wash away your sins, calling on His( the Lord’s) name.”
The most important decision we can ever make in life is to accept God’s call to salvation through Jesus Christ. We can accept it only while we’re still alive. So we would be very wise indeed to heed the advice in Isaiah 55:6 which says “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call on Him while He is near.”
