DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – ap plying them on to our skin particularly our pulse points and soles of the feet. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and dif fusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work / business and thirdly using the oils internally – by adding them to our favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue.

Welcome to my weekly column and my Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while using DóTerra’s essential oils in our daily routine. As a certified DóTerra essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help and support so many people and their families over the last three years on their essential oil journey throughout North Kerry, West Limerick and beyond. I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood and this week I want to share with you one of my Pod member’s popular choice oils in supporting one’s Self-Belief, Self-Acceptance and promote feelings of Calm and Positivity. I bring you DóTerra’s Bergamot! These essential oils work on our physical and on our emotions and dóTerra’s Bergamot essential oil relives feelings of despair, self-judgement and low self-esteem. It invites individuals to see life with more optimism and positiv ity. Bergamot is unique among citrus oils because it is both uplifting and calming. Although the fruit is sour, the oil is sweet and aromatic, and is an ingredient in many women’s fine fragrances and one third of men’s colognes! It is also a key ingredient in the classic Eau de Cologne created back in 1709. Eau de Cologne was a favourite scent of Voltaire and it was he who declared it ‘a fragrance that inspires the spirit!’

From the heroism of Antarctic explorers to pioneering women in the Middle East; from record-breaking athletes to survivors of war and torture, this wide-ranging collection embraces both classics of the genre, as well as new and neglected voices. The extracts are or ganised around a range of themes; you will find those who sought out new frontiers, or who purposely tested their physical limits in full knowledge of the dangers or risks they might face, but also those who endured persecution and suffering, or were thrust into life or death situations yet defied the odds to survive. Endurance is packed full of you-couldn’t-make-it-up true stories and adventure fiction classics, from the high seas to the poles, from inhos pitable jungles and deserts to the unknown realms of space, through physical and mental despair to euphoric highs. Yet all of these ex traordinary stories celebrate the enduring nature of the human spirit, and show the mental and physical determination it sometimes takes to achieve one’s aims.

This varied and compelling collection will take you on an adventure around the world, but also on an emotional journey exploring what it means to be human.

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well With Autumn approaching it can become easier to focus on our weight loss and wellness goals. But there will always be something that will throw a spanner in the works and trigger us to lose sight of what we really want to achieve overall. What is a trigger? A trigger is any person, place, thing, situation or food that has a tendency to cause you to overeat. This has an impact on our motivation and our self-esteem. Very often we can pull the trig ger ourselves and be our own worst enemy. That in turn could lead into a negative mindset which would not have a positive impact on your overall well being . At San Rita Wellness we help our members to recognize what it is that triggers them to slip, and that is why being part of a group of like minded people helps to know where your weaknesses are and discover where your strengths are.

These kind of triggers can lead us into a vicious circle which can be hard to break out of, but not impossible. Take steps !! * Recognise your trigger, they may be some of the above.

Includes extracts about and by Ernest Shackleton, Robert Falcon Scott, Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, Amelia Earhart, Marie Colvin, John Krakauer, Solomon Northrup, Ella Maillart, Freya Stark, Ed Stafford, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Aron Lee Ralston, María Elena Moyano, Gertrude Bell, Isabelle Eberhart, Nellie Bly, Alex Honnold, Nelson Mandela, David Nott, Jules Verne, Neil Armstrong and Scott Kelly.

COISTE NA NÓG Well done to Billy Roberts who finished 7th out of 18 in his qualification heat in the Community Games Long Puck final. Billy missed out on a place in the final by 3 metres after hitting a respectable 69.07 metres, a new personal best for Billy.

U15: Our U15 hurlers left nothing to chance on Sunday when they took on Kenmare in the replay of the County League Semi-Final. The last time these two teams met in Kenmare, it was a tough encounter and Kenmare managed to get a late flurry of goals to ensure that the game would go to a replay. The replay was fixed for 12pm on Sunday in a very warm Abbeydorney. Bally duff started stronger and had four points scored before Kenmare got themselves on the scoreboard. The backs were working hard and this paid dividends in the first half when they managed to keep the visiting side to two points. Ballyduff kept plugging away and taking their points, and even when Kenmare scored a goal in the second half, Ballyduff retaliated a few minutes later with their own goal. A Great team performance today with scores coming from all over the pitch including Sean and Jack from the U13s who came on and scored a lovely point each. Next up is Parnell’s in the County League Final.

The annual Kilnaughtin Graveyard Mass was celebrated in glorious sunshine with a large crowd in attendance on Friday 12 August. This year the chief celebrant was Bishop Ray Browne assisted by local clergy - Fathers Michael Hussey, Sean Hanafin, John O’Connor, Philip O’Connell and Jimmy O’Hanlon. Bishop Browne blessed the new Altar Shelter and Covid Remembrance Garden. Paddy Creedon, PRO of the Graveyard Committee welcomed everybody and thanked all those who had supported this project which had been com pleted on time and within budget and in line with planning requirements. Bishop Browne in his homily said that for generations going back over the centuries the community had gathered here to remember and pray for their dead. He was delighted to see so many young people present because it was important that future generations should carry on the faith and come and remember their dead here. Fr Hussey thanked the committee who had organised the evening’s celebration and remembrance and for completing the project. St Mary’s Choir accompanied by local musicians rendered hymns of praise, remembrance and acclamation. Members of the clergy blessed individual graves as family members prayed for their loved ones. Included in the Kilnaughtin Graveyard Committee are Patsy O’Connell, Brid Histon, Kitty McElligott, Patsy O’Shea, David O’Gorman and Paddy Creedon who are to be complimented on the fine condition of the graveyard.

MOYVANE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION Would like to acknowledge the receipt of €1,500 from Kerry Council 2021 Community Activities Fund towards the operat ing/running costs of the organisation.

TARBERT TARBERT NEWS Email; tarbertnews@outlook.com or telephone Patrick Lynch at 068/ 36117 on or before 7pm Sunday. DEATHS The death took place of Doreen Normile (née Smith) of Clareview and Dooncaha, Tarbert and formerly of Bedfordshire, England. Doreen who was aged 76 died at University Hos pital Kerry on Wednesday 10 August. She reposed at St Mary’s Funeral Home, Tarbert on Friday 12 August. Her Requiem Mass took place on Saturday 13 August in St Mary’s Church, Tarbert. The main Celebrants were Fr Michael Hussey and Fr Tim Curtin assisted by Fathers John O’Connor, Jimmy O’Hanlon and Philip O’Connell. St Mary’s Choir rendered the funeral hymns. Her next door neighbour in Clareview, Shane Wall composed and read a poetic re flection which encapsulated her life, love of family and good neighbourliness. Her son P J in a very emotional and colourful eulogy sketched her life as it evolved around her family. As a young nurse in Luton she met and fell in love with John Normile from Dooncaha, Tarbert who was working in construction in England. They were married in September 1967 and sadly John’s mother Mary died suddenly in Birmingham on their wedding day, aged 52. John and Doreen worked for a number of years in England where three girls were born. They returned to Tarbert and lived for a while in Doonard and Dooncaha where Doreen quickly made friends. Skilled with her hands she knitted garments for sale. Over the years five more children were born, a growing family of four girls and four boys. John travelled with the Feale Rangers football team to New York in 1981. He was involved in a very serious car accident where his companion was killed but he survived against the odds. After many months in hospital, John came home but Doreen as well as looking after a large family now had the added burden of looking after a husband recovering from multiple injuries. In 1984 they purchased Clareview, a period house previously owned by Parson Dick Fitzgerald. John died on 26 February 1993 in his fifties. Later with her family reared and educated Doreen went back to work. She worked for some 10 years as a Care Assistant at Lystoll Lodge Nursing home, Listowel. Outside of work she enjoyed her weekly game of Bin go, reading, gardening and socialising. She enjoyed looking after her grandchildren. After her Requiem Mass she was interred in Kilnaughtin Cemetery beside her late husband John. Sympathy of the community is extended to her family, her daughters Mary, Susan, Jennifer, Teresa, her sons Sean, P J. James and Micheál, brothers, sisters, extended family, relatives and Sympathyfriends.also to Nora O’Connell, Carhoona on the death of her aunt Joan O’Boyle of Castleisland, County Kerry. LIXNAW GAA SPLIT THE BUCKET DRAW

- Last weekend in Carlow, 12 boys from the parish of Lixnaw competed in the All-Ireland Community Games. First up at 10am Saturday morning was Steve Reidy in the U.14 100m. Steve ran his semi-final very well but against a strong field of runners, unfortunately, he was outside the qualifying positions for the final. Dylan O’Callaghan followed in the U.16 100m sprint. Dylan ran a fantastic semi-final and comfortably made the top four to qualify. In the final, Dylan drove up the track and crossed the finish line with the four other leading runners and there was nothing between them. Upon deliberation by the stewards, Dylan was just pipped for medal position, coming in fifth place. It should be noted that both Steve and Dylan will still be under age for these races again next year.  Just before lunchtime, the U.12 Boys Relay Team competed in their heat. This team consisted of: Thomas Keane, Corey Hea phy, Éamon Kennelly, Donnacha Quilter, Richie Reidy and Ethan Stack. The boys ran a perfect relay, coming in fourth place to qualify for the semi-final. Shortly after, they were on the track again, where they battled hard for a place in the final. The com petition proved too strong and they were unlucky to finish in fifth position. Two great races by these young lads in their first experience of a National Community Games. Last up were the U.14 Boys Relay Team made up of: Maurice Galvin, Jerry Galvin, Steve Reidy, James Hunt and Paddy Larkin. These boys ran a powerful semi-final to claim third place. In the final, these boys showed real grit and determination but strong competition kept them outside the medals. Lixnaw Community Games Committee are very proud of these lads. They ran in the hottest county in Ireland on this day, wilted in the heat but stood tall when they were called upon to race. Well done boys, up Lixnaw, up Kerry!

One year ago next Sunday, August 21, Eileen Cronin left this world to join Mike Joe who passed away just over a year earlier. Eileen was one of a kind and kind was a word that was synony mous with Eileen. She loved Moyvane, she loved Kerry football and was involved in everything that was good in this parish. In the sixties she was part of the Drama Group that competed at Drama Festivals all over Ireland and won many All Irelands, The Open in Athlone, The Macra, the Oireachtas and finally the group made it to the Peacock and the Abbey Theatres in Dublin. Not many groups had that distinction. There were many Best Actress awards. She was part of Moyvane Bingo for, probably, 40 years and by God was she good at what she did and was she loved by everyone that came to Bingo? They thought there was no one like Eileen and they were right. She called back the num bers at Bingo on the night, paid the buses, paid the prize money and then, in her own time, sorted all the money. It now takes two people to do what she did! She is not forgotten and is re membered and talked about every Thursday night. Personally, I miss her every day of every week. She was my go to person. She would be so proud of Kerry winning another All Ireland this year. Darragh O’Shea was her favourite player and one of her prized possessions was a picture of Darragh signing his book for her in Brosnan’s Bar. Don’t forget her First Anniversary Mass will be celebrated this Sunday at 11.00am.

“A LEAP OF FAITH CHALLENGE” Will take place on Sunday, August 21 in Croke Park. This is an Absail fundraiser for Kerry Cancer Support Group. Two local la dies, Brenda Kennelly & Frances Leahy are being daredevils for this worthy cause and would appreciate your support. Perhaps you are not familiar with this group, then let me fill you in. Their motto is: no one should face their cancer journey alone: Kerry Cancer Support is devoted to maintaining a warm, welcoming environment while ensuring that service users have immediate access to our free programmes and resources. Our professional staff strive to help people affected by cancer in a way that is as supportive and helpful as possible to achieve the highest quality of life. Kerry Cancer Support is a community-supported volunteerdriven community-supported organisation. Their Health Link Transport was established 10 years ago to provide essential transport services to and from Cork to enable cancer patients to attend appointments to receive treatment.

The Graveyard Mass for St Mary’s Cemetery, Chapel Street takes place on this Friday 19 Au gust at 7pm. Hopefully the fine weather will continue for the Mass and in the eventuality of broken weather, the Mass will be celebrated indoors in the Church.

Best wishes and continued success to Anita Kelly, Main Street who moves to India over the coming weeks to take up her duty as Irish Consul General in Mumbai where she will be based for the next three years. Anita says she is not the first Tarbert person to be based there as Sr Carmel O’Connor, who became Mother Superior of the Loreto Order in Calcutta was based there and died in Calcutta in 1997. Sr Carmel (Nancy) was the daughter of Wil liam O’Connor and Kathleen Wren and coincidentally grew up in the same house on Main Street where Anita was born.

IRREMORE CHURCH: Mass times: Sunday 21st August at 11.00am for Doreen & Jeremiah Finnerty, Banemore.

A reminder from Kitty McElligott that there will be a Flag Day in Tarbert on Friday 19 August in aid of the new Fuchsia Centre for Alzheimer and Dementia care in Listowel. Your support would be appreciated for this worthy cause

To date this 100% VOLUNTARY FUNDED ORGANISATION has pro vided transport for over 3,000 service users who have attended over 23,000 cancer related appointments. They need to keep two buses and a jeep on the road for treatment trips and the increase in fuel costs is creating a major problem for the service, increasing their costs by €20,000 this year alone! Every Euro will be lifesaving and appreciated beyond measure. Check out the ladies on iDonate or Facebook. Sponsorship cards can be found in Frances’ Hair salon or Kennelly’s Hardware shop.

U16 Discus: A superb National finals for Cillian McMahon in the u16 discus. Cillian threw a new pb and after the first three throws was lying in 4th place, with a further three throws Cillian was just edged outside the medals in 5th. This talented lad who just picked up this event shortly before County finals done brilliant. Great support on the day from his family. Well done Cillian we are so proud of you and it is great that you are carrying on the throwing tradition from the McMahon’s. You’re grandfather Tom McMahon (RIP) would be so proud as would your uncle Timmy who was Duagh/Lyre’s first National Community games participant in Mosney.

NORTH KERRY MINORS; The NK minors are into the county semi-final after a tight one-point victory over Austin Stacks! It is really encouraging to see the fortunes of NK football taking to turn for the better these past few years! They played the semi-final against Kenmare Shamrocks in Fitzgerald Stadium this Monday just gone, ahead of notes compilation. Best of luck to all involved and especially our own Darren O’Brien who is on the squad!

U16 Discus: A long wait and the final event of the day was the U16 girls discus, with the schedule changing a number of times. It was the turn of Duagh/Lyre and Kerry participant Aoibhínn Harte in the u16 discus. Aoibhinn finished 9th overall with a new pb and narrowly missing out on a top 8 spot. This is Aoib hínn’s last year in Community Games and she really enjoyed the experience finishing the athletics season on a high. Well done on representing Duagh/ Lyre and Kerry Community Games. We are so proud of you and keep up the U16throwing.4x100m

U15: The boys are still awaiting details of the NK league semi-final where they will play Ballyduff.

U13: The North Kerry league semi-final came down for decision last Sunday evening with a big game against local rivals Listowel Emmets! A large crowd were present on a humid evening to watch an exciting game play out, with thunder rolling in the background! Our lads got off to a lively start with an early goal but Listowel worked their way back into it with some nice points and a goal of their own. At halftime, Finuge were two points to the good and the game would continue to be a tight and exciting affair throughout. It came down to a burst of scores in the last five minutes from our boys before the gap finally opened up. The final score stood at Finuge 5-11 to Listowel’s 2-10. This result puts them into the NK Final against Northern Gaels, due to be played this Sunday, August 21st. At time of writing, we do not have a venue - please check social media for more information.

U11: The last game in the Go Games series was played last Monday against Ballyduff. Two teams lined out with some great play from all involved, well done to everyone! Management are working on some challenge games and local blitz’s to keep the team active for the next couple of months.

Next Weeks Jackpot is €5,600 and will be held in Speedys Bar Sunday the 21st of August at 8:00pm As always thank you for your continued support.

DUAGH / LYRE COMM. GAMES National finals: Last Saturday all roads lead to Carlow for the highly anticipated National Com munity Games finals. In it’s second year at Carlow, a fabulous track and facili ties were on display. The weather was fairly hot, 31 degrees and staying cool was a challenge in itself. Duagh/Lyre had six participants taking part: Oisín O’Regan, Noelle Dillon, Cillian McMahon, Eimear Buckley, Angharad Cudlipp and Aoibhínn Harte over a number of events.

Coach: John Bunyan. Its these four girls last year in Community Games and they have given great service to lots of events/activities over the year since age 6/7. It’s good to see them competing at National finals in their final year and they did do with pride. Thanks to all our participants, coaches, parents, volunteers and supporters on the day for all the encouragement on the day and in the training preparation before the competition. It was a long but exciting and brilliant day for all involved, memories made to last a lifetime. Special thanks to Nelius Collins for keeping us posted on the games and changes to the schedule and for his continued support to Duagh/Lyre participants.

Relay: Well done to the u16 girls relay who ran a great race. The girls did amazing and as an area we are so proud of each one of the girls. Team: Noelle Dillon, Aoibhínn Harte, Angharad Cudlipp and Eimear Buckley.

COMMUNITY GAMES; Well done to our young footballers who took part in the All-Ireland Community Games finals held in Carlow last weekend, represent ing the parish of Lixnaw. NORTH KERRY U15; Well done to the NK U15s on their round 2 win over Ken mare District - NK 7-14 to KD’s 3-10. Our own Ivan Conway came away top scorer with 2-02 on the night!! Also on the team we had Gavin O’Keeffe, Mark McElligott and Gearóid O’Sullivan. Round 3 against West Kerry will be played this Wednesday, August 17th at Lispole, throw in at 7pm.

FINUGE GAA SENIOR: The much-anticipated round three game against Kilgarvan went ahead on Saturday evening in Farranfore. Our lads had to win while also relying on other results to stay in the competition! They got off to the right start and were 1-04 to 1 point up by the first water break. At halftime the score stood at Finuge 2-06 to Kilgarvan’s 0-04 and feeling that the win was on the cards. And so it proved, as the final score stood Finuge 3-10 to Kilgarvan’s 1-07. However, progression depended on the result from the Knocknagoshel V Duagh game - and as Knock ran out winners there, it meant that Finuge edge out Duagh on scoring difference! Goal scorers on the night were Pat Corridan, Ricky Heffernan and Keltyn Molloy. This was another very solid display from the team who are now looking forward to the quarterfinals, due to be played the weekend of August 27th/28th. There are still some Group one and three games yet to be played this weekend, so the line-up for the quarterfinals is not yet known.

The conversation was about a popular TV reality show where glamorous couples keep swapping partners until they find the love of their life. My friend’s words got me thinking. I am old enough to remember back in the 60’s when we got a black and white TV at home. And l remem ber warnings being given by the TV presenter if an unsuitable scene was upcoming to the screen.

It’s only a bit of fun, a brain bypass. Everyone knows it’s for the camera. No one takes it seri ously. You’ve become a real goody two shoes. Lighten up.”

Jesus challenges us constantly to change our thinking, to guard our thoughts and to be trans formed by the renewing of our mind with His Word instead of being negatively influenced by TV and the media. It is a constant battle. But He promises in Psalm 32:8 “l will instruct you and teach you in the way in which you should go. l will counsel you with My Eye upon you.” He doesn’t abandon us if we trust in Him. Again, in psalm 33:18 He assures us that “The eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, who hope for His loving kindness.”

What we look at does affect us for better or worse. In the early 1970’s l went to the cinema alone and watched the Exorcist. It was popular and l wanted to see. I was so stupid. It had an awful effect on me for a long time. God wants me to use my mind to give Him glory, not to wallow in the world’s gutter. I would like to draw your attention to a lovely Scripture in Pauls Epistle to the Philippians, Chapter 4 verse 8: ”Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy -meditate on these things.......and the God of peace will be with you.”

One such scene was a man hitting another man with his fist on the chin!!! It wasn’t just the TV that was black and white in those days!! We had a very clear picture of good and bad back then. Sadly, things have changed aItlot.iswell proven that the quality of TV shows can shape our thinking and even impede brain devel opment in children. But does scripture say anything about such Indeed, things?
