“Or maybe you have an even bolder idea. This time round, I’m encouraging neighbouring businesses to submit a joint application to their local authority if they have a more ambitious proposal.”

The Streetscape Enhancement Initiative will provide retail and property owners in Tarbert with grants they can use to give their business a facelift. The primary aim is to make towns and villages more attractive places to live, work or visit.

THE FURIES

SAN RITA WELLNESS

The Furies: mythological snake-haired god desses of vengeance, pursuers of those who have committed unavenged crimes. Now, pri vate investigator Charlie Parker is drawn into a world of modern furies in two linked stories.

In The Sisters Strange, the return of the crimi nal Raum Buker to Portland, Maine brings with it chaos and murder, as an act of theft threat ens not only to tear apart his own existence but also that of Raum’s former lovers, the enigmatic sisters Dolors and Ambar Strange. And in The Furies Parker finds himself fighting to protect two more women as the city of Portland shuts down in the face of a global pan demic, but it may be that his clients are more capable of taking care of themselves than anyone could have imagined . . . From the number one Sunday Times and multi-million-copy bestsell ing author John Connolly comes two linked stories in one novel and the most compelling and unsettling Charlie Parker case yet.

This week the Community was once again plunged into deep sadness with the news coming through of the very sad passing of Brendan Flavin R.I.P. of Tullahinell, Ballylongford who died peacefully on Friday afternoon last August 26th. The eldest of a family of five Brendan was the first born to parents Mary and Paddy Flavin and enjoyed his youth and indeed his adult life in the townland of Tullahinell where he was born and reared and lived all of his life. All through his life Brendan was part of a hard working family and work was no burden to him and he worked for most of his lifetime with his good friend and col league Eddie Joe Mulvihill the duo forming a great working relationship in the construction trade. Their work took them all over North Kerry and beyond. Brendan was a gentleman in every sense of the word full of fun and an odd bit of devilment thrown in for good measure. Occasionally he liked to socialise and loved the fun and the banter that surrounded such occa sions. Sadly, his health in recent times deteriorated and sadly he slipped from our midst on Friday last. To his loving wife Teresa, daughter Marie, son-in-law Anthony, sister Marga ret, brothers Mike and Patsy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends we extend our deepest sympathies at this very sad time for ye all. Brendan is predeceased by his parents Mary and Paddy and his brother Stephen. On Monday morning last August 29th Brendan’s cortege departed his residence in Tullahinell ar riving at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Ballylongford, for Requiem Mass at 11.00 a.m, followed by private cremation in Shannon Crematorium. May he Rest In Peace. Ar dheis dea go raibh a ainm usual.

KILFLYNN NATIONAL SCHOOL RE-OPEN

Once upon a time a local community came up with an idea of putting together a magical event. A little committee was formed with the scaf folding of the community around it. Social capital at its best. Many meetings with laughter, madness, big ideas and friendships formed. A magical festival was developed with the focus on bringing children and families back to basics and using their imagination. Local land owners, business, farmers, Community organisations, and local families and in the surrounding areas pulled together with the kindness of their hearts to support this non-profit event, every penny is reinvested back into the festival the following year. Local organisations run little shops to support their clubs. A big thank you to our chairperson Mick Brady. With commitments of family life and work, hours of volunteering and hard work were done with kindness and dedication from all. Take a bow Kilflynn ye truly are amazing and ye have displayed community spirit once again on Saturday and Sunday 27th and 28th August. Our motto is we learn and grow every year.

CASHEN VALE BOXING CLUB Since it was established in 1996, the Cashen Vale Club has led a nomadic existence, calling 3 different places home. It started life in Ballyloughran Centre in Ballydonoghue, then it was on to the Community centre in Ballybunion, and now, the Irish Collage in Sandhill Road, where the Auctioneers Gavel could finally be the death- knell of the Club. Our thanks to a local intrapreneur for his offer of a premises. But we don’t have sufficient Coaches or Volunteers in the club at present to safely continue to train the amount of young people who are coming to the Club. And so, it’s with much regret we have decided to put our Ring and training equipment into storage until a more favourable situation arrives. Having won 14 National Championship Titles and 2 European Championship Medallists, and successfully hosted several County and Munster Championships, plus 3 International Tournaments. Could there still be a future for Kerry’s most successful boxing club in Ballybunion?

FINUGE GAA SENIOR: It was a big weekend for our senior team as they faced Cordal in the County Junior Championship quarterfinal, played in Cordal. Our boys got off to the right start with 3 points to no score within the first 10 minutes. Cordal struck for their first score - a goal and this would set a trend as they would go on to score two more within a minute of each other. While our lads kept up on the points front, they would never bridge the gap that the goals would provide to Cordal. Halftime score read Finuge 0-08 to Cordal’s 3-06. The sides would trade points in the second half and when Cordal struck for goal number four half way in, it was the end of any possible score would read Finuge 0-12 and Cordal 4-12, with the winners now playing Tarbert in the semi-final. Thoughts now turn to the North Kerry Championship where our lads take on Asdee in the first round. There are no fixtures set yet.

The girls set up the project and after a last minute pep talk we’re ready for action. The girls captured the judges with their variety of information on the project title Toys. The each took turns to talk and share their knowledge. The girls got great feedback from the judges and scored an unbelievable 94/100 and were crowned National gold medal winners. REMEMBRANCEANNIVERSARY

So what’s the Alpha course all about? Well if you have ever said to yourself what’s this life all about or if you have thought there’s surely more to life than sleeping, eating, drinking, pain, suffering and dying then Alpha is for you.

And much more. Alpha has the backing of all the Christian denominations (including Catholic of Thecourse)best thing about the Alpha course is that eve ryone can be themselves, we can ask the ques tions that we’ve always been half afraid to ask or we don’t need to say a word. We come to the LCF centre at 7.30 pm, we meet others, there’s a light meal. Then there’s a video on one of the topics mentioned above. We break up into small groups and chat about the video. We are free to speak our mind with respect. Then we break up and go home. So, if you like people, food and a good chat it will be a great way to pass a Thursday night. There is no pressure, no commitment, no charge, no follow up and no hidden agenda. It starts on Thursday September 15th at 7.30 PM. It simply explores the Christian faith. If you are curious about church stuff and want to check it out for yourself then you are most wel Havecome.a blessed week because we are so loved by our Heavenly Father. If you require any further information on the Alpha course you can call LCF at 085 1783757 or Email lcfkerry@gmail.com. Eircode V31P63
