The foremost combination in his horoscope that catches one’s eye is the axis of the nodes with all the planets in between them. Though this is generally understood as Kalasarpa dosha, what is seen in Trump’s horoscope is Kalamrutha yoga as Ketu is in front of Lagna. This yoga is supposed to make the native rise high in life. Though classical texts do not talk about this yoga, this kind of combination such as the one in Trump’s horoscope is much talked in classical texts. It is the lunar eclipse combination. The classical texts treat this as something bad for the native. The native born during an eclipse is supposed to suffer from ailments, distress and poverty besides facing danger to life. (BPHS – 91-1-14). Curiously none of these were experienced by Donald Trump. When we check the eclipse data at his birth time, it showed that there was no eclipse in his place of birth as it was mainly visible in Asian countries. Role of Nodal Axis The eclipse-like axis in Trump’s horoscope comes with Rahu having crossed his lagna lord Sun in Taurus where Rahu is exalted. At the other extreme Moon has just crossed Ketu in Scorpio where Ketu is exalted. This has made the Kalasarpa dosha redundant as Moon has come to the other side of the axis. But Moon is in close conjunction with Ketu almost within one degree thereby giving rise to a disturbance to Moon (mind) by Ketu. Examining his horoscope we find that he had Ketu Maha dasa early in his life that ended in his 10th year. He had behavioural problems during that period. Trump himself has said in an interview that he was a ‘pretty rough fellow when he was small’.
Effect of Ketu- Moon Conjunction The effect of Ketu on mind was manifest in Ketu dasa and not in Moon dasa. His Moon dasa was marked by a number of acquisitions and successful business dealings in real estate and construction sector. This was between his 35th year and 45th year (March 1981 to March 1991). This shows that by and large Moon had remained unafflicted by Ketu but had instead reflected the raja yoga conferred by the sign dispositor Mars which is also a raja yoga causing planet and posited in the lagna. In addition, Moon has attained digbala and naisargikabala and has high bindus (31) in the sign where it is posited.
Businessman under the Spell of Mercury The common refrain of many people is the way Trump is talking erratically and changing his words very often. Mercury also happens to be the 10th lord from both navamsa lagna and karakamsa. From the 10th Navamsa it is posited in the 9th house receiving the aspect of dhanakaraka Jupiter. In the Rasi chart also, Mercury occupies the 10th house from the Dhana bhava which has dhanakaraka Jupiter posited there. Another feature is that Mercury is the sub lord of the 10th cusp thereby having a larger impact on Trump’s life in his profession. His current venture into politics also has the influence of Mercury as Mercury is the sign dispositor of the current dasa lord Jupiter. This means behind all his obnoxious talks and hate speech, there is the underlying influence of Mercury, the communicator whose sole aim is to seek success somehow. This makes it possible that Trump is deliberately making those talks with the one-point goal of getting success in his current venture in politics. This has nothing to do with Moon (his mind) or non-dependability on thinking power given by Moon. He could not have become so successful in business all these years if his Moon is functionally afflicted. His Mercury-mind is evident from his comment on some of his projects that had gone bankrupt. He said that he was not disturbed by that as he knew how to play with bankruptcy laws to his advantage in trimming down his debts. He has openly stated how to make use of the loop holes in law to ensure that his business runs well. Thus Trump’s mind is fully dominated by Mercury’s business tendency which is also evident now in his campaign style for the Presidential elections. He says whatever suits him to grab support. One example for this tendency in the current political campaign is evident from the mincing of words after meeting the Mexican President on who has to pay for the wall along the Mexican border. On his return from Mexico after meeting its President, Trump denied any talk on who will pay the bill for the wall. But the Mexican President refuted this claim. This shows that whatever Trump talked was for domestic consumption and was not true. This arises from two features in his horoscope, one the domination of business minded Mercury and two, the Rahu-Ketu axis running through 10th house taking along with them the Sun (atmakaraka) and Moon ( amatyakaraka). Effect of Rahu- Sun Conjunction The next feature of his nodal axis is the conjunction of Rahu with the Sun. In normal perditions, this means that the significances of Sun would be affected by Rahu. Father is the main significance of Sun and the next most important one is Government. Trump gained a lot through his father and his father lived long enough until Trump was 53 years of age. But once Rahu dasa started, it marked the end of his father’s life. This means that the affliction caused by Rahu to Sun was manifest in Rahu dasa and not in Sun dasa which he was running in his early 30s. The Sun dasa was however marked by investigations into alleged malpractices in his projects. So Sun as a signifactor for Government related contacts did not favour him in its dasa. However he was bailed out or supported by his father during that period which helped him to rise steadily in his success ladder. This shows that Sun being the lagna lord posited in the 10th kendra having digbala, kalabala and naisargikabala and 6 bindus in its own ashtakavarga and 34 bindus in the sign where it is posited (Taurus) was highly beneficial to him despite odds in Sun dasa. This is besides Sun’s role as the atmakaraka. But the same trend was not given by Rahu dasa which was within 2 degrees distance from the Sun. Soon after Rahu dasa started, his father died. But he had a blessing in disguise in his demise as it resulted in inheriting a huge amount left by his father. He cleverly used to expand his business in Rahu dasa. Three houses are noted for inheritance upon death of the father. The 9th house stands for father; what is given by father is seen from the 10th house. In Trump’s horoscope, 9th lord Mars is the yoga karaka for his Simha lagna. It is posited in Simha lagna whose lord Sun is in the 10th house and reached maximum distance as atmakaraka. Thus the beneficial inheritance in terms of fixed assets (Taurus, the 10th house is a fixed sign and Mars is the bhumikaraka) is seen. The inheritance upon death of father (8th house which is vyaya of the 9th house of father) is owned by Jupiter, the dhanakaraka. It is positioned in the 2nd house of dhana from where it is aspecting both the 8th house and the 10th house. All the planets involved (Rahu, Sun and Jupiter) are in the star of Mars. Thus Rahu dasa was marked by growth of his empire through his inherited assets. However Trump could not make any progress in the field of another important significance of Sun, namely gaining a political foothold. His desire to make a mark in politics grew only in Rahu dasa, due to the influence of Rahu’s axis in the 10th house where Sun attained digbala. Until them he was satisfied with his real estate business. Rahu dasa also pushed him into show business in which he was successful. But politics was not coming his way until Venus Bhukti started in Rahu Maha dasa (April 2011). It must be noted that Venus is the sign dispositor of Rahu and the 10th lord.
Is Political Power Indicated? This is a million dollar question which will be analysed here step by step.
1. The Rahu-Ketu axis having Sun and Moon in conjunction in respective nodes happens in 4th and 10th houses. This is a powerful and beneficial kendra as far as Sun and Moon are concerned as both these luminaries enjoy digbala and naisargikabala. The Sun and the Moon also happen to be atmakaraka and atyakaraka respectively. They are in the same conjunction with the nodes in 1-7 axis in the navamsa which is also a beneficial kendra, though it smacks of a cunningness in getting his goals accomplished. With the end of Rahu dasa in March 2016, the uncertainty and opposition to his nomination for President’s post has ended. It was only after Jupiter mahadasa started, he got nominated as the presidential candidate of his party. The current dasa of Jupiter is beneficial as it aspects Rahu-Sun combine in the 10th house. In return the exalted Rahu casts its 5th aspect on Jupiter. 2. From the point of view of karakamsa, Sun in the karakamsa lagna is empowered in two ways. It is the lagna lord posited in the 10th house. It is in the star of warrior Mars which is the yogakaraka and an occupant of Lagna owned by Sun. This gives him fighting tendencies in getting into the top position. Sun joins Rahu in Karakamsa and this association with Rahu makes him to live like a warrior – by having to fight with someone or on some issue. In other words he would continue to remain controversial forever. But this association with Rahu lends him an element of deception in his dealings. This means he may not mean what he promises now. He is likely to change his stance if he is power. 3. Role of Mars: Mars has played a big role in his life both as a yogakaraka and as a badhaka for Simha lagna. By owning a kendra and a kona for Simha lagna Mars ensures success in his ventures. Its location in the lagna enhances its power to do the same. From its position in the lagna Mars aspects the 4th house which is its own house. His house, surroundings and luxuries have never been at peril. By aspecting Moon in the 4th house, Mars has removed the debility of Moon and transformed it to confer raja yoga which was evident in Moon dasa. By aspecting Ketu in the 4th, it has inculcated martian blood into Ketu. The result is that while Moon had behaved like its star dispositor (Mercury) and sign dispositor (Mars), Ketu has taken up the badhaka nature of Mars in its major periods and sub periods. Trump was rude and violent in his Ketu mahadasa. Ketu had caused bankruptcies in its sub periods. The mahadasa of Mars was also marked by bankruptcies of some of his projects. Thus we find a dichotomy in the way Mars behaves. While it had benefited him by his significances, it had hurt him with losses during its periods and sub periods. Good news for Trump is that both his Ketu and Mars mahadasas are over. Its sub period in the current Jupiter Mahadasa is more than a decade away. 4. The 10th lord is Venus which joins Saturn, the 10th lord from the 10th (bhavath bhava). This is a rare and important combination which makes Venus and Saturn to work hand in glove in helping him earn his living. This combination happens in the 12th house. This has in no way reduced his success in his profession, but made an impact in his marital relationships. Venus in 12th joined with 6th and 7th lord Saturn gave him more than one wife and relationship problems. But as planetary combination hemmed in between Mercury and Mars, they had helped him in his business in real estate. They are in vargotthama and positioned in 11th Navamsa that denotes profits. In addition the 2nd lord Mercury is the star dispositor for Moon and sign dispositor for Jupiter. It is in mutual aspect with Jupiter in the Navamsa. The 12th Navamsa position of Jupiter is not a drawback as it is in the 12th to karakamsa lagna. The retrogression of Jupiter in Rasi is also not a drawback as far as Trump is concerned as it results in strengthening Jupiter. Mars as star dispositor of Jupiter further makes Jupiter fearless and ad ant in talks (2nd house position of Jupiter).
A variation of this Raja yoga is mentioned by Dr. B. V. Raman as the 262nd yoga in his book Three Hundred Important Combinations. It says that when one among the lords of 11th, 9th, and 2nd houses is in a kendra from Moon with Jupiter getting lordship of 2nd, 5th or 11th house, the native becomes a great man or a respected ruler. On the election day all planets get hemmed in between the nodes – an Ketu axis that is kendra to his Moon November 8, natal position of the 2016 Mars Rahu nodes. Mars is exalted in the natal 6th house which Saturn is aspected by Saturn and Sun Jupiter Venus Mercury Jupiter as in natal chart.
