Shed Pride and be Humble The great philosopher-saint Adi Shankaracharya has given many instructions and teachings to illuminate the path of welfare for all of us. Even if we adhere to one of His instructions, we will be benefitted. For instance, the Acharya says: cee kegÀ© Oeve-peve-³eewJeve-ieJe&ced. Some have pride because of their wealth, some owing to the authority and power that they wield, some because of their education or social standing. Because of their pride and ego, people commit blunders. When Ravana kidnapped Sita, many advised him. His own grandfather advised him to free Sita. He turned a deaf ear to this advice. He was filled with so much pride that he dismissed the advice given by his own brother, Vibhishana, as well as the warnings given later by Hanuman and Angada. What is the use of his repentance at the end? The primary reason for his downfall was his ego – the idea that, “No one can do anything to me. I can indulge in any action.” The wealthy, the scholarly and the powerful must also realize that there are always people more wealthy, more scholarly, and more powerful than them. The Acharya also says that whatever you take pride in will be snatched away by time in a trifle: njelfe evfece<seeled keÀeue: meJec&e.d Hence do not have pride in anything. Have we not seen the most wealthy lose everything and become ordinary? We even pity such people. If you behave as you like, relying solely upon your wealth, power or knowledge, you will only meet your downfall. The Shastras place a high value on humility and state that he who is humble and tolerant is dear to the Lord.

le=CeeoefHe megveer®esve lejesjefHe meefn<Cegvee ~ Deceeefvevee ceeveosve mesJeveer³e: meoe nefj: ~~ - The Lord is to be worshipped with a humble state of mind, thinking oneself to be lower than a blade of grass, with a tolerance that is more than that of a tree, and devoid of all false prestige. May everyone remember that only the Anugraha of Bhagavan is permanent, seek it through humility and devotion, and attain Shreyas.

UR astrological authorities refer to the planets having a mutual exchange of houses. Some of these, as in the case of the lords of angles and times, are said to cause Rajayoga. An exchange of houses by the lords of the 6th and the 8th, the 6th and the 12th, the 8th and the 12th are taken to cause Vipareeta (extraordinary) Rajayogas. Exchange of houses by the lords of the 6th and the 9th, the 7th and the 8th, the 8th and the 9th, the 2nd and the 12th and so on are said to be bad. Except the Sun and the Moon all the planets own two houses. When two planets have a mutual exchange of houses, we have to see when these planets give the results of their double ownership. Moreover, though the problem of the badhaka houses belongs primarily to horary astrology, it has found a place also in predictive astrology. Then, if a planet is a yoga-karaka, what happens when he owns a badhaka house? For Taurus we are told that Saturn is the supreme benefic. But his lordship of the 9th appears to vitiate his benefic nature. A similar question is about the Moon for Taurus Lagna. Many such problems will crop up when we'probe deeper. Here we are concerned with the ownership of houses when they mutually exchange places. Illustrations will provide avenues for a solution. Consider the first chart1. It is that of the late Prof. B. Suryanarain Rao. Saturn is a badhaka and is placed in the 2nd. But he is in exchange with Mercury. That is, the exchange is between the lords of the 2nd and the 10th houses. The lords of the 5th and the 9th houses are not at all involved. Consequently The conjunction of the Sun and Mercury is not that of the 4th and the 5th lords, but that of the 2nd and 4th lords. The exchange between Saturn and Mercury protected only the 2nd and the 11th giving him fame, wealth and contentment. If these planets are 1. Ascendant—Taurus 11.37; Saturn in Gemini 3 20; Libra—Mars 0.63, Ketu 6.9 ; Sagittarius—Venus 20.33; Aquarius—the Sun 1.12, Mercury 8 27, Jupiter 21 38 ; Aries—the Moon 18.29, Birth 1856-2-12. treated as owning the 5th and 9th houses also, the results would have been different and he would not have lost his father at the end of Mars Dasa even if Mars aspects the 9th, since the 9th has benefics on either side. Saturn lost the ownership of the 9th, he ceased to be a badhaka. The second chart2 is that of Swami Vivekananda. Here is an exchange between the lords of the 2nd and 10th houses, Saturn and Mercury. If Mercury were to be treated also as the lord of the 7th, he will be a badhaka ; and yet his association with Venus could not prevent marriage even if Saturn is in the 10th with the Moon. Note also Jupiter's aspect on the 7th, himself being aspected by the lord of the 5th. As in the first chart houses 2 and 10 alone are involved. These planets lost the ownership of the 3rd and the 7th houses. Whatever results the 7th house gave, they came from Mars and Jupiter and turned his attention to the welfare of mankind. Similarly the 3rd house results were due to Jupiter, not to Saturn. Take another famous ascetic, Sri Nrisimha Bharati3. Here the 4th (Saturn) and the 10th (the Moon) lords have exchanged houses. The 10th is fortified as in the second 2. Born 1963-1-12. Balance of the Moon Dasa yrs. 3.3.27. Sagittarius — Lagna 27 31 ; Capricorn—the Sun 0.52, Venus 8.32, Mercury 13 13 ; Aries—R.
