EDITOR’S NOTE forced humankind into a state of isolation. Something that happens in ‘Bhandhana Yoga’. Saturn and Mars play a crucial role for such situations. The article by Ravee K explores historical events and the position of Saturn in those events leading to situations such as isolation.
Dear Readers, India - China relations are at an all-time low. The recent Galwan incident came as a shocker for Indians and served as a reminder that the Chinese cannot be trusted and taken lightly. This month's editorial by Raman Suprajarama is on the India China relations and what clues Vedic Astrology gives India a strategic advantage. Shimla convention of 1914, the Chinese Tibetan invasion, escape of Dalai Lama from Tibet, Sino India war of 1962, Doklam standoff of 2017 and the recent Galwan attack, are all analysed astrologically.
The year 2020 is by all means turning out to be the year of extremities of all sorts. Notice that the number 2020 adds up to four that refers to the ‘number’ of mystical Rahu. Rahu is synonym to sudden change, planning and mystery. The article by Ashish Chauhan takes into account placement of Rahu and other planets in yearly chart of India, in conjunction with Vastu principles, and throws light on the major incidents faced by India in year 2020. The analysis is validation of what the world and specifically India is going through currently including the pandemic, cyclones, earthquakes, and political unrest.
We are happy to present a rare and in-depth research paper by Dr Jayasree Saranathan on the Siddhantic concept of to and fro motion of the Equinoxes offering newer insights to emerging trends in science. The article is a multi part series that details revelations from olden Vedic sources that can impact the way precession is thought of now and pave the way for rewriting the concept of precession and the cycle of 26,000 years.
We are delighted to start a new column “Astrothority” unravelling Astrology concepts. Tune in to soak in the not so commonly known nuggets of Astrology from the experts themselves.
We know that lunar and solar movements are used to find one’s zodiac. Dr. Venugopal. R. Veeramaneni shares predictions for each zodiac for the year 2020-21, based on sidereal zodiac which is governed by the position of the moon and considered a better approach.
Like always, the magazine ends with the monthly features with the most awaited predictions for your zodiac, ephemeris, calendar and panchanga for the month of August.
There is a certain mystery about the theory behind alchemy, having it’s deep roots in ancient practices where it is believed to have preparations of elixir concoctions that can bestow immortality and supernatural powers. But alchemy is not a mysterious knowledge that is the stuff of fairy tales. It happens in our very being, constantly transforming our life energies. Roopa Rajan explains the alchemical process in humans and presents some of the tools from Ayurvedic sciences such as astrology, vastu, reiki, crystals and sound to empower our innate capability to resolve blocks and problems.
We wish all the readers safety and health. Happy reading to you all. Please do share your comments or feedback at info@astrologicalmagazine.com.

ZODIAC SIGNS - LUNAR VS SOLAR
PREDICTIONS
CHARACTERISTICS AND FORECAST FOR 2020-21 Dr. Venugopal R. Veeramaneni
Astrology - Lunar Vs Solar (Tropical & Sidereal) Zodiac Signs Lunar movement to find Zodiac sign Majority of people follow this method to know their present Gochara, that is, following only birth Star to find your zodiac sign which is calculated from your date of birth, time of birth and place of birth. Follow your first letters of the name to find your zodiac sign if you don’t have the correct date of birth details. Solar movement to find Zodiac sign Some Indians and people from the West follow Sun movement, that is, finding your zodiac sign with the date of birth in between the range of the dates in months. Sidereal Zodiac (Dates approximately 14 or 15 to 15 or 16 of the month) – a more precise & accurate method Traditional Hindu Vedic astrology uses a sidereal system of zodiac and accounts for the precession of the equinoxes using a system of correction called ayanamsa, which allows it to be a more accurate reflection of the current astronomical trends than the tropical zodiac. Tropical Zodiac (Dates approximately 20 or 22 to 21 or 23 of the month) The tropical zodiac is thought to have been used by Western astrologers and does not correspond to the visible zodiac. Instead, it is defined based on seasons and their relationship to the cycles of the Sun. Sidereal Zodiac is governed by the position of the Moon and better for the spiritual world. Meena (Pisces) P. PLANETS & INDIA - CHINA RELATIONS Suprajarama Raman
India - China relations are at an all-time low. The recent Galwan incident came as a shocker for Indians and served as a reminder that the Chinese cannot be trusted and taken lightly. China follows Mao Tse’s philosophy. Mao Tse was the founding father of the People’s Republic of China. He depicted his philosophy using the hand, palm, and five fingers. According to him, the hand indicated China, the palm indicated Tibet and the five fingers indicated Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bhutan, Sikkim, and Nepal.
China’s actions so far indicate that they are completely invested in this philosophy. Just a sheer understanding of this Mao Tse philosophy might have given you chills. On the other hand, India continues to follow the Gandhian policy of being peaceful and non-violent, commonly termed in the historian circles as peaceful co-existence policy. Before we begin, let me share the horoscopes of India and China for our ready reference.

RAHU & INDIA 2020 SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS Ashish Chauhan
Rahu is synonym to sudden change, planning and mystery. Year 2020 adds up to four that refers to the number of mystical Rahu. The article explores the placement of Rahu and other planets in yearly chart of India, in conjunction with Vastu principles, and throws light on the major incidents faced by India. The analysis is a validation of what the world and specifically India is going through currently including the epidemic, cyclones, earthquakes, political unrest, also indicating the possibilities for the coming few months. Rahu is synonym to sudden change, planning and mystery. Year 2020 adds up to four that refers to the number of mystical Rahu. It will be interesting to assess the possibility of major incidents in the present year for India based on the placement of Rahu and other planets in yearly chart (Varshfal).
foreign material while Gemini refers to air, as a result, a virus of foreign origin will enter the country through foreigners visiting India. Jupiter, the planet of air (oxygen) is involved in it so the inhaled air is contaminated with foreign virus. Jupiter further strengthens the congestion as it intensifies the effects. So, the overall congregation of Jupiter, Saturn, Ketu, Mercury and Rahu resulted in spread of Coronavirus that disturbed every aspect in India. Since, Sun is part of the collaboration so there would not be any medicine of the same. Sudden orders of complete lockdown were a result of interaction of Sun and Rahu. While influence of Jupiter and Ketu on it brought the life to a stagnation at home. Combination of Saturn and Mercury under the effect of intensity enhancing Jupiter, paralyzed the normal life.
The yearly chart of India in 2020 has Virgo ascendant, Rahu is placed in Gemini sign in 10th house while Sun, Ketu, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury are conjunct in 4th house in Sagittarius. Venus is placed in 5th house in Capricorn, Moon is placed in 6th house in Aquarius whereas, Mars in 3rd house in Scorpio sign as per astrological horoscope. Astrology is a chemistry of celestial bodies and planetary interactions. Let us collaborate this study with Vastu Shastra and analyze the situation.

There is placement of five major celestial bodies together (Sun, Ketu, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury in 4th house) under the malefic aspect of Rahu.
The planets were in close proximity approximately from 21 November 2019 to 15 January 2020. The planetary effect will be pronounced in the birth chart of the newly born and the native who have birthday within this time domain, as their yearly report will show its antagonistic effect in one way or the other. Taking the Vaastu Shastra and yearly horoscope of India (Figure 1) in consideration, it is clear that North, West and South regions of India will be drastically affected by Corona. With time the infection will spread more in northern region till September.
Rahu under such circumstance while influencing all the four including Ketu, will trigger its effect from the third month March. The complications will appear in lungs as 4th house refers to lungs1. Saturn, Ketu conjunct with Mercury lead to severe infection. Rahu refers to

begun the lighting of lamp from north direction, which is a good indication that divine grace on family is present. Lighting was done in clockwise direction which again a good indication. But the tip of banana plantain faced the south and flame in south direction was slightly brighter than others. South is the direction where our ancestors dwell. This indicated that there some karmic balance of the ancestors.
Thamboola Prashna has certain procedures which must be followed before any prediction is made. First, the astrologer should worship the deity he follows and then ask the querist to get betel leaves, areca nuts, fruits, coconut, incense sticks and some dakshina. Without these items no predictions must be made. It can be seen at any time and has no restrictions.
Now at this stage the querist was asked to hand over the betel leaves, fruits, and flowers along with dakshina to the astrologer. The total leaves brought by the querist were 124 in number. So, we calculate for thamboola lagna as follows:
The querist while buying the betel leaves should not count or inspect any leaves. On a visual count approximately the number of leaves should be greater than 12. After the querist hands the betel leaves counting should be done from top to bottom if the time of query is in forenoon. Otherwise vice – versa. simple formula:
Total leaves = 124. So, Thamboola lagna = (124 X 5 X 2) + 1 = 1241 Dividing 1241 by 7 we get remainder as 2. So, number 2 indicates Moon. At the time of query Moon is located in Pisces sign. So, this becomes thamboola lagna. • First, we see if the divine grace is present or not. Jupiter should not be conjoined or aspected by bhadkadhipathi or be posited in 6th, 8th or 12th from Lagna. Here Jupiter is in 10th. Further 5th lord Moon is in Lagna and 9th Lord Mars is in trine. This indicates God’s grace is present on querist.
The tamboola lagna can be calculated by
(Total number of leaves X 5 X 2) + 1 = (Number/7) Here the number 5 represents the pancha bhutas and 2 represents parents. The number 1 is added which represents the querist himself. The remainder should be taken after dividing this number by 7. The remainders represent different planets according to the list below:
• But since Ketu is conjoined with Jupiter and Lagna is occupied by Gulika, it indicates some blockage to divine grace. • Further it was observed that first betel leaf was damaged. It had a hole in the centre. Lagna lord Jupiter was in mahabadhasthana (in Sagittarius). This indicated native has immense distress and obstacles.
1-Sun, 2- Moon, 3-Mars, 4-Mercury, 5-Jupiter, 6-Venus, 7-Saturn and if 0 it is taken as Saturn. The rasi occupied by these planets becomes Lagna or ascendant. Consider the first 12 leaves for prediction. The leaves represent the 12 bhavas counted from Lagna. One should observe the size, colour, and shape of the leaf carefully. Any leaf having damage or cut that particular bhava will be affected. Even though the planetary combination for a particular bhava may be bad if the corresponding betel leaf appears fine, then the querist may not face any issues. The above principles are explained using the example below:
• 2nd lord Mars is in 9th indicating good wealth to family. Mars aspects Venus in 12th indicates expenditure was made on luxurious items. Querist confirmed that he had purchased two SUV vehicles in a year. Also, 2nd betel leaf was bigger than the 1st indicating the family has good income. The tip of second leaf was cut indicating some damage was there on wealth. • The third leaf was smaller than 1st and was light in complexion when compared to 1st leaf. Also 3rd lord was in 12th showing no happiness from siblings to the querist.
Explanation with an example
A prasna was conducted in Mysore on 30th January 2020 at 10.30 AM. The querist was Mr. Somanath. The querist wanted to know the reasons for obstacles for progression in his life and reasons for some or the other misunderstandings in his family circle.
• 4th leaf was equal in size with 1st leaf and was slightly dry. The betel leaf was slightly tilted towards right. 4th lord Mercury also bhadkadhipathi for Pisces lagna was in 11th along Saturn and Sun in Capricorn. Since it was an even Rasi and Lagna had Moon and Gulika (who was 5th lord) it
The querist was asked to place a lamp on a banana plantain and afterwards light the lamp. The querist August 2020

PRECESSION OF EQUINOXES NEW REVELATIONS Part 1: Western concept of precession versus Siddhantic concept of movement of equinoxes Dr. Jayasree Saranathan
Precession of Equinoxes has been a topic that keeps the Astrological community confused and conflicted. Dr Jayasree Saranathan attempts to unravel the concept of precession as explained by vedic rishis in our puranas and astrological Siddhantas, and also by modern astrologers. This series details those revelations from olden Vedic sources that can impact the way precession is thought of now and pave the way for rewriting the concept of precession and the cycle of 26,000 years. Introduction
earth with precession one among them causing an impact on insolation, thereby on the climate of the earth. He proposed eccentricity of the earth’s orbit for a period of 1,00,000 years, obliquity variation of less than 3 degrees of earth’s axis in a cycle of 41,000 years and continuous precession of the earth’s axis like the spin axis of a top for a period of 26,000 years. All the three motions form the basis of “Milankovitch cycles”. Hipparchus was his inspiration for the concept of precession which he further developed by assigning the causes to the gravitational pull of the Sun, Moon, Jupiter and Saturn on the rotation of the earth.
Equinox is the day of equal day and night when the sun shines directly over the equator. This happens twice a year when the sun seems to move up and down on the earth’s surface crossing the equator twice a year. When the sun crosses the equator from south north the time is spring in northern hemisphere hence known as spring equinox or vernal equinox. Presently it happens on 20th March every year. When the sun crosses the equator from north to south it coincides with the autumn season in the northern hemisphere, giving it the name autumn equinox. This occurs on 23rd September in the current times. It has been observed that the position of the sun at the point of crossing the equator in the backdrop of distant stars (referential frame) keeps shifting westward or backward gradually in course of time giving rise to a concept called “precession of the equinoxes”.
At a time when Milankovitch cycles were gaining acceptance, David Pingree, an American historian presented his dissertation on transmission of Hellenistic Astrology to India. Though it is not known how far he was influenced by the Milankovitch cycles, Pingree towed the line that the Greeks were the forerunners in the discovery of the precession of the equinoxes from whom the Indians received this idea sometime between 2nd and 5th century CE.
Development of the concept of precession Precession of the equinoxes had been observed by people in the past. Greek astronomer Hipparchus is considered to be the first one to have recorded the precession of the equinoxes around the year 129 BCE. His conclusion that equinoxes had shifted by 2 degrees when compared with the earlier Babylonian records placed the beginning of the observation 169 years before him. 1500 years later we come across the first development of the concept of why it happens when Copernicus hypothesized that precession was due to the wobbling of the earth. Newton who came after him opined that the wobble could be due to the gravitational influence of the sun and the moon on the oblate earth.
This raises a question on the wisdom of the Indic civilization that existed for a very long time and was credited with inventions of many basic concepts of mathematics and astronomy such as binary numbers, pi, decimal system, zero, heliocentric motion of the earth and the planets, calculation of eclipses, tracking the motion and time taken by the sun and the moon across the zodiac interfaced with the stars - to name a few. On the contrary there is evidence to show that the knowledge about precession is one among the many inventions listed above, yet to be recognized by the world at large.
Twentieth century saw peak activity in shaping the concept of precession with the Serbian astrophysicist Milutin Milankovitch proposing three motions of the August 2020

COVID-19 has halted the entire world and has forced humankind into a state of isolation. Something that happens in ‘Bhandhana Yoga’. Saturn and Mars play a crucial role for such situations. The article explores historical events and the position of Saturn during those events. It is interesting to note that most times the events have led to isolation at all levels and even caused destruction.
The entire world has been subjected to a state of isolation and restricted access as a preventive measure for COVID-19. Such restrictions are typically observed and implemented for prisoners to regain control, which we can connect with "Bhandhana Yoga" of horoscope of an individual.
Saturn at Capricorn 1962 October: Sino India War - During the Indo Sino war, Saturn was placed at Makara/Capricon which is bhoothatva and influenced by Mars. This kept entire India under panic situation. However, more impact was for the North and North East part of the country and people were isolated/restricted about a month.
However, when such restrictions and measures become mandatory for large population, it is something different that we need to understand. Astrologically we all know that two tamasika planets play key role in Bhandhana Yoga, which are Saturn and Mars. So, keeping this as base, I started looking out for multiple events historically which kept people restricted or in isolation at least for a few days (may not be for entire population but certainly for few countries or one or two states). Thanks to Google and Wikipedia which came in handy to collect information on past events related dates to super-impose the same for astrological calculation.
*Moon is intentionally excluded 1962 October: Cuban missile crisis - Leaders of the U.S and Soviet Union engaged in a tense 13 day political and military standoff in October 1962 over the installation of nuclear armed Soviet missile on Cuba. Due to uncertainty, many Americans built backyard fallout shelters in case of nuclear war.
Largely, I could draw two themes: 1. Saturn is occupying "Bhoothatva" rasi - Earthy sign i.e. Makara/Capricorn which is its own sign and 10th from natural zodiac and influenced by Mars frequency every ~30 years 2. Saturn is occupying "Bhoothatva" rasi - Earthy sign i.e. Vrishaba/Taurus, Kanya/Virgo and may or may not be influenced by Mars - frequency every ~10 years. Most times, it is found that Saturn is occupying constellation of the Sun, resulting into major disturbances and steps taken by the government.
*Moon is intentionally excluded 1992 December: Demolition of Babri Masjid During this time Saturn was placed at Makara/Capricorn which is bhoothatva and influenced by Mars. This kept entire India under panic situation. Since the rally turned violent and the crowed overwhelmed security forces and tore

THE MAGIC OF ALCHEMY A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON HEALING AND TRANSFORMATION Roopa Rajan
Alchemy, a form of chemistry and speculative philosophy practiced during medieval times concerned discovering methods for transmuting baser metals to gold or finding an elixir for life. In simple terms, it’s about a magical transformation for better life experiences. Aside the mystery, alchemy happens in our very being, constantly transforming our life energies. To understand, the magic of our own alchemy, we have to grasp that we are beings of spiritual energy at our core, constantly seeking expansion. The author explains the alchemical process in humans and presents some of the tools from Ayurvedic sciences to empower our innate capability to resolve blocks and problems. Many of us in India have grown up with magical stories of wizened siddhas concocting alchemical elixirs that can bestow immortality and supernatural powers. Western folklore abounds with tales of druids transmuting base metals into gold. But alchemy is not a mysterious knowledge that is the stuff of fairy tales. It happens in our very being, constantly transforming our life energies.
everything, whether it is wholesome or not. Our deeper desire to heal and transform is suppressed by past memory, social conditioning and sheer ignorance of our real self. The result is discontent, turmoil and a sense of limitation affecting our health, wealth, careers and relationship. However, the cosmos never yields to our resistance and relentlessly works to spark the intense desire for integration and expansion. Sometimes, life creates a deep agitation of our energies to inspire a fierce yearning to break out of our inertia. We are compelled to make peace with these energies and surrender to their purity.
To understand, the magic of our own alchemy, we have to grasp that we are beings of spiritual energy at our core, constantly seeking expansion. Our lives are animated by an energy that cannot be perceived by the senses, but which compels us to create ever newer forms of expression.
This is alchemical healing at work.
However, the consensual reality we have built often works against our deeper nature, making us hold on to August 2020
