A Primer on the Super Blue Moon Lunar Eclipse and Astrological Implications | LALITHA DEVI Does an eclipse affect every being on earth? Will it be positive or negative? Read on

A

Lalitha Devi is a Pillai Center teacher and author of many articles and blogs on the Tamil Siddha tradition, yoga philosophy, Jyotisha and other Vedic arts and sciences. She holds an advanced certification in Vedic astrology and lives in New York, USA.

ccording to the yogis and Vedic astrologers, light and intelligence are synonymous, and the brighter is the light in our brain and consciousness, the higher is our evolution. Needless to say, the Sun and the Moon are responsible for our light and well-being on Earth, thanks to the various biological processes and the yearly seasons. But these luminaries have also considerable impact on our moods, thoughts and well-being. Although modern science shows general disregard for any consciousness not related to the physical brain, it’s the millennial domain of yogis, rishis and vedic astrologers to talk about the interconnectedness of all species, cosmic phenomena, human consciousness and evolution. So many people are wondering how the total lunar eclipse on January 31, 2018 will affect humanity physically, mentally and spiritually. In the vedic scriptures, it’s pretty obvious that the rishis, astronomers and astrologers were fully aware of the eclipses (or grahanam), and could easily calculate their occurrences. Reference to eclipses can also be found in the Rig Veda. Similarly, the Surya Siddhanta and Bhagavata Purana mention calculations of the eclipses and the reasons for them, respectively. Another example can be seen in the Ramayana when King Dasharatha, Rama’s father, expresses his concern for the upcoming transit of the north lunar node Rahu on his birth star. In fact, for Vedic astrology, Rahu and Ketu are considered the causes of the eclipses. Again, in the Ramayana, when Rama was about to battle the demon Khara and his relatives, the Sun went dark due to a total solar eclipse. Another epic eclipse was mentioned in the Mahabharata when Krishna calculated a solar eclipse that would benefit Arjuna and grant him victory at Kurukshetra.

&RXQWULHV 0RVW $໤HFWHG E\ WKH 7RWDO /XQDU (FOLSVH It is said that an eclipse affects every being on earth due to its significant amounts of radiation, and its impact on human consciousness and all life forms. This temporary darkness is, however, believed to be more eventful for people living in locations where the eclipse will be visible to the naked eye. This is the second Full Moon in January 2018. The second Full Moon in a month is called a Blue Moon. THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE

Words of Wisdom FROM

SRI SRI SRI GANAPATHI SACCHIDANANDA SWAMIJI, SENIOR PONTIFF, AVADHOOTA DATTA PEETHAM, MYSORE

WE ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE WHOLE WORLD, BUT WE CAN CHANGE OURSELVES AND FEEL FREE AS BIRDS. WE CAN BE SERENE EVEN IN THE MIDST OF CALAMITIES AND, BY OUR SERENITY, MAKE OTHERS MORE TRANQUIL. SERENITY IS CONTAGIOUS. IF WE SMILE AT SOMEONE, HE OR SHE WILL SMILE BACK. AND A SMILE COSTS NOTHING. WE SHOULD PLAGUE EVERYONE WITH JOY. IF WE ARE TO DIE IN A MINUTE, WHY NOT DIE HAPPILY, LAUGHING? IF YOU HAVE DONE SOMETHING MERITORIOUS, YOU EXPERIENCE PLEASURE AND HAPPINESS; IF WRONG THINGS, SUFFERING. A HAPPY OR UNHAPPY LIFE IS YOUR OWN CREATION. NOBODY ELSE IS RESPONSIBLE. IF YOU REMEMBER THIS, YOU WON’T FIND FAULT WITH ANYBODY. YOU ARE YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND AS WELL AS YOUR WORST ENEMY.

Some of the birth dates indicated are 509 BC, 44 BC, 788 AD, etc. However, according to Professor B. Suryanarain Rao, an eminent historian and author of renowned historical treatise A History of Vijayanagar, the Never to Be Forgotten Empire (1905), The Royal Horoscopes and many other books, Sri Shankara was born on the fifth day of the bright half of the lunar month of Vaisakha of the cyclic year Eswara in Vikrama 14. This corresponds to 25th March 44 B.C. My father, Dr. B. V. Raman, the internationally recognized notable Vedic Astrology scholar of the twentieth century concurs with the date of 44 B.C. Scholars agree that Sri Shankara lived only for 32 years. It appears that God (Brahma) recalls those whom he loves dearly. Sri Shankara lost his father when he was three years old. He completed his Sanskrit and Vedic studies early in life. The young Sri Shankara with the consent of his mother becomes a Sanyasin in his eighth year. Then, with his mother’s permission, he went searching for a Guru and found Sri Govindapada on the banks of Narmada River. His studies were completed by the age of 16. Sri Govindapada sent his gifted student to Kasi (Varanasi) so that he could present and explain Vedanta systematically and in detail to the people. Scholars and students quickly recognized Sri Shankara’s immense knowledge and learning. During his stay in Kasi, he wrote commentaries on Sri Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and Brahmasutras.

Question I am from Bangalore but live outside India with my husband & his mother. I am recently married. Can you give your Vastu appropriate guidelines for the architect plan?

Answer The floor plan indicates that the site is angularly oriented from the north by 27.5 degrees. With proper orientation of the paramasayika mandala (81 module plan), it is noticed that the entry zone falls on the north in the third module (from east) of the mandala. &RPSDWLEOH 'LUHFWLRQV The astrologically compatible directions for you are north and west while for your husband, they are south and east, The compatible colors for you are blue, green and red while for your husband red, white and rainbow colors are compatible. The dimensions – length, breadth and height - of the building given by your architect as desired by you have to be slightly modified using the building formulae called Ayadi Shadvarga. The house can be on either end of the site allowing at least 1/9th of space from the end. However since the primary element for you is Vayu and lord of the sector is Moon who signifies mind and mother, you can have your home oriented to the north. $GGLWLRQDO ([WHUQDO 'RRUV You can have two additional doors as these two directions are compatible to you and your husband. This amounts to your home having three external doors and goes by the name of Vardhamana which is very much approved by the Vastu texts. The main door THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE

which allows the breath of life (prana vayu) into the house falls in the third module from east on the north. This therefore falls into the permitted seventh module from the west. However, if you can also have a dwara on the east, it is indeed powerful life breath flowing into the habitation. Home Temple Placement of the temple room is in order. The platform can have three steps as indicated. Dining area is identified properly by your architect. You can have a big painting of morning Sun on the east wall here between the suggested door and the proposed window.

7KH )XUQDFH The furnace can be relocated to the marked place. The store and central heating unit are in order. Room two (in the northwest) can be used by you until the birth of the first child. Lot of blue in various shades and hues can be used by way of wall colors, flooring, bed linen, curtains, seat cushions, paintings (of water and sky), etc. Later on it can be the room for the daughter. The ground room in the northeast is ideal for your mother-in-law. The master room (southwest) now indicated can be your study room while after the birth of a child can become the master bedroom and color schemes incorporated as indicated earlier. Room three (in the south) can be your husband’s study now and later if you have a son, this room can be his. Toilet seats can be oriented to the north. The center of the structure can be free of pillars, columns, dirt and water. | CONTINUED ON PAGE 38 FEBRUARY 2018
