Introduction

Forecasting is Important

he recent election of *Donald Trump as President of the United States, leaves many astrologers and futurists with a somewhat embarrassing reality…. almost no one saw the outcome of his surprising victory. Trump’s win befuddled not only astrologers both Eastern and Western but other expert forecasters such as pollsters, media commentators, strategists, academics analysts, wishfully thinking politicians, along with seasoned economists and major business CEOs.

Forecasting is important because it tells us the future environment in which we may need to operate (or avoid operating). Researchers at organizations such as Harvard and MIT/Sloan remind us that the field of forecasting has advanced significantly in recent years. As such, anticipating events has become increasingly more important. People engaged in the affairs of the world must be able to constantly adjust to changing circumstances in a global economy. In order to make those adjustments, forecasters need to envisage what might happen in the world around them. Accuracy in forecasting can mean the difference between being ready and relevant or being out of phase and left behind. Forecasters need to spend more responsible time reviewing their forecasts before engaging with the public in order to help the populace make sound judgments.

T

The election of Donald Trump is a wake-up call for all futurists to come to terms with the reality, as unwanted as it is, that accurate forecasts, while theoretically possible, did not work so well this time around. While President-Elect Trump’s scantily forecast win merits examination, this article will focus more on exploring those factors that lead to inaccurate forecasts. THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE

Words of Wisdom from

Sri Sri Sri Ganapathi Sacchidananda Swamiji, Senior Pontiff, Avadhoota Datta Peetham, Mysore

 A devotee, truly speaking, is an incarnation of devotion. Just as fire cannot be separated from wood, similarly, a true devotee is not separate from the object of his devotion – the Lord.  It is very difficult to come close to a Sadguru. It is only the punya karmas (good deeds) of so many previous lives that can bring one to be with a Sadguru.  Carrying tales and speaking harsh words are behavior of men inhuman. Sachchidananda, Lord of true bliss eternal.  O Lord, you are the Truth. You are eternal and immanent. How could anyone feel incomplete after seeing your Form?

Vastu Principles for Bathroom | Bangalore Niranjan Babu One must pay special attention to the way Bathrooms are designed and situated in a house. Toilets and bathrooms influence and disturb certain energies, both positive and negative, and if improperly designed without applying Vastu principles, can affect the quality of life.

his month we will discuss the design aspects of your bathroom – attached or otherwise. A bathroom is used by every member of your family and every member of your business and this is done everyday. The Vastu and convenience appropriateness of your bathroom (with or without the toilet) is needed in terms of its location, design and construction where using the various facilities of the bathroom should be one of comfort and not one of distress. An independent bathroom without the toilet is very appropriate in the east but can also be based elsewhere taking into consideration the astro compatibilities too. Where a toilet is part of the bath never have them in the northeast or southwest of your room or your habitation, residential or corporate. Once the Vastu balanced area is located check out on the requirements of the bathroom. What are the fittings and fixtures that are needed to make your bathroom a place of comfort? You can design them to be user friendly either simple or luxurious. Make use of appropriate colors for walls, floors and the accessories. .

 Your cabinets can be innovatively created to conceal drainage areas of the water sink.  Cabinets for wet storage like perfumes, shampoos, soaps, pastes, oils, etc can be in the north and east of the bathrooms.  Use colors of wisdom and intellect – yellow and green for the floors, walls, toilet seats and cabinets.  Have your showers such that water flows out towards north or east into the ground drains.  Never orient your toilet seat to the south or west  Never have your wall mirrors on the south or west  Have adequate natural and artificial lights to make your bathroom inviting.  Have light switches next to the door for you to put them on easily during night.  Never locate your toilet seat next to your door but have the sink near (on the north) for easy accessibility to the water  Space out the toilet, sink and tub.

Here are some Vastu and user friendly suggestions

 Appropriately locate them in the northwest (or southeast), north and east respectively.

 Never have your bathrooms in the northeast or southwest of your room if the toilet is a part of it.

 Have the doors in such a way that they open clockwise (inner or outer) based on the size of the bathroom.

 Never have your plumbing pipes leaking.

 Have your geyser on the east (nearer to south) or south (nearer to east).

 Lay the pipes such that they can be accessed easily when you need to plug in the leaks.  Use pebbled or unglazed floor tiles to make them skid-free and elder friendly.  Bathroom flooring can be nice looking but hard and sturdy  You can have adequate ventilation to avoid moisture accumulating on the mirrors and glasses.  Never have your exhaust fans in the northeast and southwest of your bathroom  Have your dry storage space in the form of cabinets in the south and west of your bathroom THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE

 Have independent bathrooms for you and your husband.  Never have your bathroom door in the southwest. Bathrooms should be entered with a sense of pleasure. Make use of colors indicated above appropriately and have the necessary accessories to make your stay in the bathroom refreshing and enjoyable. Take care to design your bathrooms well. Make them not only user friendly but also Vastu friendly. To conclude let us note what a wise man says: “If I want to be alone, some place where I can write, read, pray, cry, and do whatever I want - I go to the bathroom.” MARCH 2018

 Obituary Note by Nirupama

Dr. William Levacy

A Multi Talented Vedic Astrology Scholar is no More with Us It is with sadness that we report the death of Dr. William Levacy, a well known scholar in Vedic Astrology living in South California. With a degree in literature, a master’s and a doctorate in education with specialization in Human Performance Improvement, he was the author of several best-selling books on Vedic Astrology Beneath a Vedic Sky, Beneath a Vedic Sun and Vedic Astrology, Simply Put. He was a regular contributor to The Astrological Magazine and a good friend of the Raman family. Developed a computer generated/ printed ephemeris used by the Astrological Magazine. He was practising the science of Vedic Astrology for more than three decades. He was the receipient of very many awards. Our Raman & Rajeswari Research Foundation honored him twice with the titles of Jyothisha Maha Sagara and Jyothisha Jnana Sagara. On a personal level he had the greatest love, affection and warm regards for my parents Dr. B. V. Raman and Mrs. Rajeswari Raman and all members of our family. Whenever we (me and my wife) visited Los Angeles, USA, he (and his wife) would take pains to book us in a nice hotel and take us to various sightseeing places that included Disney Land, Malibu Temple of Venkateswara, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, the beautiful Queen Mary Ship and many other places of interest. In his website Dr. Bill wrote as follows: “I have been given several awards by the India Council of Astrological Sciences, headed by the late Dr. B.V. Raman, India’s most famous astrologer. I have also developed a planetary almanac for Vedic Astrologers. I have appeared on television in the US, Europe and India and have written books and numerous articles on Vedic Astrology. Outside the field of Vedic Astrology, I worked as a management consultant for the Aerospace industry. As a result, I have been fortunate to have been given a lot of training and have done many projects related to business process re-engineering, performance measurement, and team building. Much of what I have learned in my business career is readily transferable to my astrology practice.” Dr. Bill Levacy was a wonderful person, kind and considerate and a man of varied accomplishments. Dr. Bill’s demise has left a deep void in our lives. He has left the entire astrological world in deep sorrow. We have lost a very good friend who had such love and affection for the Raman family. The Astrological eMagazine offers its deep and heartfelt condolences to his wife Ms. Peggy and all members of the bereaved family. May his soul (Atma) rise to the higher regions and become one with the Almighty (Paramatma). 14

thing. Bang is sound. Aham denotes God. Aha consists of all 52 letters of the alphabet - alphabet ‘a’ to the alphabet ‘ha’ in the devanagari script. The alphabet Ksha was added later. Entire creation is present inside that. Just because you claim this property as yours, will it become yours? You have simply put a sign saying that it is yours. Everything belongs to God. It is not just His; It is all He. In worldly affairs, you cannot refuse to sign your name, saying that you have given up ego. Worldly truth is different from spiritual truth. These people are mine; they are associated with this body. These people who wear Datta Vastram belong to the Datta family. Such statements are necessary in worldly life. I put my signature. But the energy and ability to earn and give came by the grace of Guru. You acknowledge that and then proceed with your activities. Many people claim that the industry belongs to Swamiji and they are only managing the factory on his behalf. Such devotees are very happy. Once a man gave away an amount in charity. Swamiji asked “how did you take the liberty of giving away my money”. This man gave thinking that he gave for a good purpose. But the recipient misused the funds for drinking. The man realized his mistake. Giving up ego will get us out of trouble. It will give divine qualities. Ego blocks the view of Dharma. One must feel disgusted when each time ego it shows its face. Repeatedly remind yourself to guard yourself against it. A man wanted to kill his wife thinking that she had betrayed his trust. He went to a lecture and heard that God gives, gives, gives, and forgives. Man gets, gets, THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE

gets, and forgets. God endures our mistakes endlessly. The man then changed his password to ‘forgiveher’. That reminded him daily to forgive his wife. With practice anything can be achieved. Lord Krishna told us that. He is the world’s best manager. After a month the man had no anger left in his heart. He asked his wife, whom he was going to divorce, to come back and live with him. On another instance, a man used the password ‘quitsmoking’. It helped him to finally quit smoking. Repetition is very important until the concept sticks in the mind. Only when a mantra gets fixed in the mind, the deity will give darshan. Veda mantra states that all these mistakes and sins were committed not by me, but by my anger. My anger did it, not I. My anger is making me do this. I offer this anger to you, O Lord. You please consume this anger. Or, my desire has done this; my passion has done this, not I. You replace the word anger with greed. You surrender your greed to God. Kamakameswara is Paramatma. My lust and rage are responsible for my sins. Please remove them from me. In English there is a remedy. ‘I’ versus ‘We’. Because of I, the eye stops functioning. If you replace the ‘I’ with We, Illness becomes Wellness. All the laborers worked and the work got done. The owner, drinking tea in his office, claims that he has done the work. In your mind you cannot think that. If you disregard their effort, and insult them it is a sin. Like a laborer, God is doing all the work for us. It is wrong for us to take credit. The negative aspects of ego we have discussed. Divine feelings leave us and demonic traits increase because MARCH 2018
