Editor’s Note Niranjan Babu & Suprajarama Raman The November 2019 issue of The Astrological eMagazine has been one of the most interesting and enriching magazines I have edited. You may ask why? As humans, we undertake a journey from birth to death. The journeys sole purpose should be become a better human being. Sanathana Dharma prescribes a framework to improve the quality of this journey. They detail fourArthas or purposes of life, each a stride in one’s life. These strides are Dharma, Artha, Kama and Mokha. Accordingly, we have articles related to all these four aspects. To plan the four strides, one needs to first estimate his longevity. Vedic Astrology indicates many aspects of an individual’s life through a horoscope based on birth data. Most individuals are not comfortable in dealing with death, the ultimate material event of life. Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism considers death not only as merely the end of the physical body but also as the beginning of a new cycle for the eternal soul. Classical astrological texts indicate various planetary geometrical combinations that indicate the possible period for the end of life or death. In this context, what exactly does an astrological prediction covering a specific period for the end of life or death really indicate? Dr Bangalore Sureshwara says that horoscopic indications related to death is not fatalistic. He shares in detail a step by step procedure on how to estimate longevity. Read on. Once the longevity is broadly understood, a human can plan the four strides with the help of Vedic Astrology. H.H. all other branch trusts, including Sri Jnanakshi Educational Institutions Trust and Sri Rajarajeshwari Charitable Hospital Trust isthe worthy successor to His Holiness Sri Tiruchi Mahaswamigal. Swamiji’s one and sole aim is to revive the glorious heritage of the Bhartiya Sanskriti in its totality with due respect and regard for all other world cultures and present the goodness of all cultures to the entire mankind in such a manner that everyone respects the other, irrespective of geographic, ethnic, language or any other differences, and ultimately attains God in all glory. He writes on the eternal relevance to Astrology in a human’s life. As person progresses in the life, he are she enter’s into a sacred samskara known as Kalynam. Marriage – a cultural ritual that was once considered to be a very important part of a human’s life, has now lost its sanctity. Marriage is on a decline on every aspect across the world – marriages don’t last longer, marriages per human life has become multiple and marriage itself isn’t something that humans are interested in. It is time for us to take a moment to understand the real significance of marriage, the cultural and spiritual dimensions that it blooms, and the sacredness it attaches to a human. Sri Vamsi Krishna Ghanapathi very beautifully explains the meaning of Hindu Marriage or Kalyanam and how this great institution of life elevates the souls. One of the most commonly used horoscopic jargon during marriage is Kuja Dosha. Kuja Dosha is the most wrongly understood concepts in Vedic Astrology. Kuja Dosha to extract money for innocent clients. Kartheek Darbha writes about Kuja Dosa and Misconceptions, burst the myths surrounding it. Post marriage, there are other important activities that humans undertake – right from procreation to health to better job to travels or vacations to acquisition of houses, vehicles, lands and more. This is where Ashtamangala Prasna comes in handy. Ashtamangala Prasna is one of the celebrated branches of horary astrology unique to Kerala. It is a wonderful astrological procedure. Held in very high esteem, this technique has been carefully preserved and promoted by many great scholars of Kerala from the horary past to the modern times. No such system or procedure is seen followed in any other part of India. The rationale of Ashtamangala is beyond our comprehension like many other cannons of our astrological thoughts. It is proof positive that when astrology is in action in any Ashtamangala Prasna procedure, the presence of the Divine is felt that guides the astrologer apart from his erudition. Herein we find its greatness.A very senior Astrological Scholar who shed his mortal body has explained this branch of astrology in detail under the pen name Bharadwaja. He explains the steps involved in undertaking the Ashtamangala Prasna, the various dimensions one can analyse, and details on how this ritual or procedure needs to be analysed. After acquisition of the first three strides – Dharma, Artha and Kama, the human as to now strive for Moksha. Moksha can be attained through various routes. However, there are certain stalwarts who have attained Moksha through rigourous Sanyasa. Sanyasa is a very important aspect in Sanatana Dharma or the Vedic lifestyle. The word Sanyasa is understood to mean different things in different contexts. For example, in Rasayana Shastra, Sanyasa refers to a

state of being when a person faints. Further, in the Varnashrama style of living, Sanyasa is the fourth stride of life, where a person is expected to move away from worldly desires and focus on spiritual advancement. Perhaps the best definition is given by Lord Krishna. In Bhagawad Gita, Chapter 18, Verse 3, Lord Krishna defines Sanyasa to Arjuna – काम्यानांकर्मणांन्यासंसन्न्यासंकवयोविदु: |

सर्वकर्मफलत्यागंप्राहुस्त्यागंविचक्षणा: || A person who donates the fruits of all actions, ie undertakes tyaga, will then profess to be able to involuntarily stay away from the desires and outcomes, such a person becomes a Sanyasi. Attaining Sanyasa is very difficult. It is not for the common man. However, certain combinations in the horoscope easily facilitate achieving this while, while even more stronger combinations make the person Sanyasi by birth. Sri Ramadas Rao shares his views on Sanyasa Yoga, how it should be interpreted in various horoscopes, and shows its role in great horoscopes like that of Jagadhguru Sri Madhvacharya, Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya and Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. I hope you enjoy reading this issue, as much as I enjoyed editing it. As usual, I welcome your views. You can write to us at info@astrologicalmagazine. com.

Ashtamangala Prasna The Matchless Method of Horary System of Kerala | Bharadwaja

Research scholars of Indian Astrology are unanimous that most of the different stages of development of the history of the Indian Astrological thoughts are thoroughly seen lost in the shadows of antiquity and they feel that it is a bit difficult to formulate any authoritative history of Indian Astrology, since its origin. Over the thousands of years of the past, this esoteric branch of knowledge has been an intrinsic and integral part of the religious, social and cultural life of almost every average Indian. It was and is, till date, guiding him perhaps in every major activity and is the beacon for his day-to-day life. Many of its fine distinctions stand subtly concealed in those immortal works of authors of erudition and eminence like Parasara, Varaahamihira, Prthuyasas, Govinda, Mantreswara, Madhava, Krishna and a host of others. They were responsible to bring this branch of knowledge to perfection, over the centuries. The three branches of this science of Indian Astrology are the Siddhanta, Hora and Samhita. Of these, Hora has its subdivisions of Jataka, The astrological emagazine

Muhurtha, Nimitta and Prasna. Prasna Sastra, according to some, is the hoary branch of the Samhita Skandha. The volume of the horary rules, knowledge and principles are so massive, compared to those available for natal astrology. Not much of them has been written down or handed over to the posterity, except for those rules found in texts like Daivagjnavallabha,

The volume of the horary rules, knowledge and principles are so massive, compared to those available for natal astrology Shadpanchasika, Prasnamarga, Prasnaanushtaana Paddathi, Prasna Tantra etc. However, traditional knowledge, passed on from generation to generation by the words of mouth, in many of the hereditary homes of astrologers, constitute and contribute much, to this particular branch of divination. Only very few of those elderly scholars who are alive and still with us and who had that rare privilege of having the traditional

training and the knowledge handed down from generation to generation, can enlighten us, on this area.

What is a Prasna? Prasna means query or a question. Then what is the technique adopted in the Prasna, by an astrologer in contrast with his dealing any natal chart? Generally, when someone approaches the astrologer with a question, the latter notes down the exact time of his query and casts the horoscope for the moment. Then he answers his questions based on the planetary positions and the Lagna that rises at that moment. Of course there are other methods employed by the astrologer to fix the Lagna by rolling his cowries and taking a handful for determining the Lagna for a count from Mesha, with the number left out, after casting away the twelves or asking the querist to tell a number and the like. There are some similarities in Prasna and Natal Astrology. They are similar in their form and content. The position of October 2019

Vedic Astrology indicates many aspects of an individual’s life through a horoscope based on birth data. Most individuals are not comfortable in dealing with death, the ultimate material event of life. Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism considers death not only as merely the end of the physical body but also as the beginning of a new cycle for the eternal soul . On the other hand, when it comes to the physical world, many astrologers find little comfort when dealing with any query related to death. Classical astrological texts indicate various planetary geometrical combinations that indicate the possible period for the end of life or death. Horoscopic review must be integrated with the existing world of reality. This means that that there is a possibility, even if it is rare, for an individual’s life to end any time due to traffic or other type of accidents, natural disasters, etc. In this context, what exactly does an astrological prediction covering a specific period for the end of life or death really indicate? It indicates only a possible or potential maximum life span that is subject to the fact that an individual may have an untimely death any time during

the entire course of life on this earth. One needs to be aware that horoscopic indications related to death are also not deterministic. Ethical, moral and other considerations play an important role when an astrologer is reviewing any length of life related information with others. The information covering longevity and related areas is primarily evaluated from the second, third, seventh and/ or eighth houses. Planets that indicate death related information (maraka) are associated, either by locations or geometrical relationships with one or more of the four houses indicated above. The length of life for astrological evaluation is commonly divided into four categories. The life categories are early (0 to 8 years), short (8 to 32 years), medium (32 to 75 years) and full (75 to 120 years). A large number of astrological combinations are given in classical texts to determine to which one of the four categories a specific horoscope belongs to. A learned astrologer eventually comes to conclusion as to the likely period of death. This evaluation is primarily a qualitative based one.

Kuja Dosa and Misconceptions |Kartheek Darbha

Kuja Dosha is the most wrongly understood concepts in Vedic Astrology. Fake and greedy astrologers freely use Kuja Dosha to extract money for innocent clients. Kartheek Darbha writes about Kuja Dosa and Misconceptions, burst the myths surrounding it.

Most of the time, people have assertion that mars in 4,7,8,12 places/ houses of one’s horoscope gives rise to a Dosha. Henceforth, declare that the horoscope possesses Managala Dosha. This is definitely true. But in my experience, not at all the times. Reason behind this is pretty clear. Maharshi Parashara had clearly stated that, all KONA (1,5,9) lords of one’s horoscope will always give beneficial results. Lords of houses 3,7 and 11 Bhavas always gives malefic results. सवे् ति्कोण नेतरो ग् हाह: सुभपह प् दाह : Kartheek Darbha is a practitioner with over 8 years of experience in various fields of Vedic Astrology. He has good practical and hands-on experience in analysing horoscopes using Math (imapct analysis of each planet based on its degree of location in each and its effect in other Bhava) as said in Vedic Astrology by renowned Parasara Maharshi. His expertise is in dealing specially with Marriage prediction, various health situations in Female horoscopes related to Giving Birth to a Child, Vamsa Vrudhi, Onsite Travel, Occupation and Business predictions, Star Lord Dasha system analysis.

This is a basic statement. The impact of the planet on the position of Bhava depends again on various other factors such as Friendship / Enemy with that Bhava’s lord, strength of the impacting planet can be seen in Navamsa chart like exhale or inhale positioned etc. After reading this article, we will be clear with following distinguishable technical points with detailed proofs. 1. Judging a Mangala Dosha horoscope 2. Analogy behind the conspiracy, two Mangala Dosha horoscopes can be matched and ready for marriage match making. 3. The importance of Ashtama Sthana / Bhava 8 in analyzing Horoscopes, especially for marital life.

Technicalities Judging a Mangala Dosha horoscope Mars as evil planet for one’s ascendant, which impacts the 8 houses heavily must be considered as Kuja Dosha horoscopes. Syntactical Possibilities: The astrological emagazine

But in that we may find personalities who have developed high spirituality and intuition and lead the life of Sanyasi to help the mankind and society. Shri Avantikacharya or Varaha Mihira in his Brihat Jataka, gave certain planetary combinations for Sanyasa Yoga. Never in the past has there been a period when astrology has been subject to as much criticism as the present; at the same time never has there been a time in the last century where the ancient sciences of classical astrology, ritualistic worship and Vastu have found as much relevance as today. The never satiated thirst for higher and higher knowledge and the yearning for a more pleasant, better life, has driven the human being almost insanely adventurous and there are perhaps almost no more earthly regions spared from exploration and discovery. With the present efforts directed towards unearthly earths like the other planets, the quest has only become more breathless with newer and newer findings of the possibilities of extra-terrestrial life. The “unknown” has always challenged the inquisitive nature of man and it continues to do so as though beckoning him and saying, “You shall never find my limit, however hard you may try.” The astrological emagazine

Hence it has been given the place of “the eyes”(jyothisham vedasya chakshuh) in the vedangas (limbs of the vedas). Just like our eyes guide us to locomote without stumbling, or falling into pits, so also astrology guides us by studying the movements of the celestial bodies and the possible temporal effects on the time-bound human body and mind. If the clinician has started advising ‘steam inhalation’ instead of the ‘salt water gargling’ which he had so long been advocating; if he has begun to

support the ‘ice-pack’ instead of the age-old ‘hot water fomentation;’ it is because he and his contemporary fellowmen have had newer and newer experiences, based on sincere research, spread over many years. So also astrology is as valid today as in the yester years; the perfection in its facts being based on sound experience and above all intuition, which is absolutely applicable to all branches of science.

Sri Sri Sri Tiruchi Mahaswamigal that the science of astrology and vastu flourishes with more and more sincere, dedicated practitioners like Sri Niranjan Babu Bangalore, his devoted wife Umarani and their children. We also bless him with success in his endeavor to revive and rejuvenate the efforts of his father and mother, the celebrated Dr. B.V. RAMAN and Mrs. Rajeswari RAMAN.

What is Kalyanam or Hindu Marriage? | Vamshi Krishna Ghanapathi

Sri Vamshi Krishna Ghanapathi is an academic of Indology, deeply interested in philosophy, music, literature and linguistics. He is associated with Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji, a great spiritual leader of our times for the past 3 decades.

Kalyanam literally means welfare/ well being (Mangalam). As marriage/ initiation into Gruhastha Ashrama (System of House Holder with duties to take care of the beings around him) is vital to the world, marriage is also called Kalyanam. In physical sense, it is to bring together two clans, two families, two bodies, two souls closer to each other. In other words, it is indicative of the process of Unification. Hence, marriage has also come to be known as an institution. ● From the philosophical perspective, Kalyanam as explained in the story cited in Brahma Vaivarta Puranam is a metaphysical concept. It is to convey the concept of Creation and sustenance as well as

delusion. Without the advent of Sakti (Rajasika Pravrutti of Maya), Siva (Param Brahma) is a static, monistic, all pervading, omnipotent, omni scent force. The potent energy remains latent, till aroused by the dynamism of Sakti. To assume the form of dynamic force, the combination of Maaya is compulsory. This is well explained in the first stanza of Soundarya Lahari.

Hence, for the world to be exuberant with dynamism, creativity and incessant existential energies; the communion of Siva & Sakti (in other words Prakruti & Purusha or Saguna Brahma & Maaya) is absolutely required.
