Editor’s Note Niranjan Babu & Suprajarama Raman It is that time of the year when Indians ready themselves to take the blessings of Mother Goddess. Navaratri followed by Vijayadasami is a very sacred part of the year. During this time, the feminine energies change their nature to become aggressive and outward. Why does this happen? In India, almost everyone understand the meaning of a Muhurtha. Muhurtha is an identified time period during which energies of a particular type activate certain dimensions in the living beings. These Muhurthas can be as short as a Kshana (the time taken to blink) to as long as a Yuga (thousands of years). And the Muhurthas come in various ranges and styles. The time period when Sun is in the second Drekanna of Virgo or Kanya, is celebrated as Navaratri, and this Muhurtha extends for approximately 10 days. The Zodiac sign Virgo denotes a virgin lady who is fertile ie ready to procrate and in prime youth. When the Sun enters this Zodiac, he heats up the zodiac and the femine energies in the living beings considerably. These energies will be at the peak when the Sun transits the middle drekanna of the sign, and naturally those dimensions in humans gets activated. During this time the 9 feminine forms of Devi’s grace can be sought without much difficulty. There are very advanced Kriyas that will be followed during the Navaratri by Saints, Aghoris and Tapasvis. However, the simplest way to get the blessings of the Devi is to chant the respective Devi Mantras 108 times during the twilights ie either during Sunrise and Sunset. The below table summarizes the various forms of the Devi, the respective thithis, planets and mantra that needs to chanted to invoke the devi and take her blessings. We encourage all our readers to do this, and share your spiritual experience with us. Date Sep 29

In this issue, the editorial is by our beloved Editor-in-Chief Bangalore Niranjan Babu. He was invited to present the keynote address at the Global Conference - Vāstu Shāstra: The Vaidic Perspective, organized with the blessing of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji, by the The Art of Living Foundation. Our beloved Editor-in-Chief shared his thoughts on Vastu Shastra with reference to temples, spirituality and sanctity and the Vastu relevance to them. A once in a life-time opportunity just concluded recently in the ancient city of India, Kanchipuram. Commonly known as the Athi Varadhar festival or cermony, this is one of the most auspicious ceremony that takes place once in every 40 years. Millions of devotees from around the world thronged this temple to get the blessings of Lord Varadharaja or a divine form of Lord Vishnu. The deity, at 9 feet tall, is made of Athi wood or Fig tree wood. Awakening and rising the depths of ‘Ananthasaras’ or the temple tank, Athi-Varadhar emerges to give darshan to mankind for only 48 days. Our senior contributor, Prof R S Maniam, shares the Astrological Significance of this Athi Varadhar Ceremony. On the special occasion of Dasara, we’d like to also present a analysis of one of the powerful women leaders in this country. Smt Sushma Swaraj was one of the greatest leaders that India produced. She achieved greatness through her actions, she had courage in defining moments, and she was driven to change the India for good. She was the country’s youngest-ever Cabinet Minister, the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi and the first woman spokesperson for any national political party. Her last stint was as the Ministry of External Affairs in Modi 1.0 government, where she did a commendable job in implementing India’s foreign policy. There are several notable features in her horoscope – from the famous Hamsa Yoga, one of the pancha mahapurusha yoga, to several yogas that defined her as a leaders par excellence. Sri S Ramakrishnan analyzed Smt Sushma Swaraj’s horoscope, and shares his interpretation. Jyotisha is unique among contemporary astrological traditions in that, apart from the technical differences between Hindu and other forms of astrology, there is extensive literature that exists on remedies in Vedic Astrology. It is contained in the most ancient texts of Jyotisha; there are references to remedies that exist in natal charts, and there has always been a market for Hindu Astrology remedies. Some of these remedies have been practiced in India for perhaps thousands of years; others have developed and emanated from different parts of the world. Dr. Gary Gomes has gone great lengths to go through all the classical works of Vedic Astrology and Hindu Scriptures, and also travelled to remote corners of the world to discover the secrets to Astrological remedies. We present an article from him on the use of Gemstones for remedies from evil planets. A speech disorder or Vaani Dosha is an impairment characterized by improper articulation, omissions while speaking, fluency issues or vocal issues. Any person having a speech disorder will invariably undergo social and emotional challenges. Of course, the magnitude of the challenge varies depending on the environment in which a human lives, ability for the human to cope up with it and more. In this article, Sri Subhash Sharma discusses the various astrological combinations that indicate speech disorders, and also recommends remedies to overcome the same. Spirituality and Temple Vastu |Bangalore Niranjan Babu
Excerpt from the keynote delivered by our beloved Editor-in-Chief, Bangalore Niranjan Babu at the Global Conference - VÄ stu ShÄ stra: The Vaidic Perspective, organized with the blessing of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji, by the The Art of Living Foundation
My dear friends, I am happy to present my thoughts on Vastu Shastra with reference to temples, spirituality and sanctity and the Vastu relevance to them. We need to understand that Vastu is equally relevant and applicable to both human habitations - Manushyalaya and divine habitations - Devalaya. It is noticed that many of us are not aware of what Vastu Shastra is and how it can benefit in making us spiritually awake. Let us, at first, try to understand the definition and history of Vastu Shastra. It has several definitions In the Amara Kosa, Vastu is defined as a dwelling. Vastu Sastra is the science of dwelling or architecture and dates back to the Vedas or the knowledge books of India. Vastu Shastra can be defined as a way of life. How you sit, how and where you sleep, how you start the day, how you orient, how you eat The astrological emagazine
your food, how you study, how you teach your children. Every aspect of your daily life from the time you get up to the time you go to bed is defined as Vastu. For the interested students of Vastu, I wish to share the classical and authoritative works on Vastu Shastra. The epics Ramayana and Mahabharata contain description of cities with multi-storeyed buildings with spacious balconies and porticoes. It is said that the site plan of Ayodhya city was similar to the plan found in the great architectural text Manasara. In the Mahabharata, mention is made of a number of houses that were built for the kings who were invited to Indraprastha for the Rajasuya Yajna of King Yuddhistira. Sage Vyasa says that these houses were as tall as the peaks of Kailasa mountains, perhaps, meaning that they stood tall and majestic. The houses were free from obstructions,
had compounds with big walls, and their doors were of uniform height and inlaid with numerous metal ornaments.
Best books on Vastu Shastra References are also found in Buddhist literature, of buildings constructed on the basis of Vastu. The Jatakas contain detached references to individual buildings. Lord Buddha, is said to have delivered discourses on architecture and even told his disciples that supervising the construction of a building was one of the duties of the order. Mention is made of Viharas, Ardhayogas, Prasadas, Harmyas and Guhas. A treatise known as Chullavagga with a commentary of Buddhaghosa is said to contain much material on the science of architecture. Gemstones as Remedial Measure in Vedic Astrology | Dr. Gary Gomes, Ed.D.
Dr. Gary Gomes, BA, MBA, Ed.D. Dr. Gary Gomes has been a Vedic Astrologer since 1990. He is an ordained Swami of the Temple of Kriya Yoga and served as the Vice President/President of the Council of Vedic Astrology. He has taught at Kepler College and American College of Vedic Astrology (as a Board Member). Many of his articles have been published internationally. Dr. Gomes has appeared on both the radio and TV channels and has been one of the few astrologers who predicted Donald Trump’s victory at the November 2016 US Elections. With many awards and titles, he is respected as one who can convey complicated principles of Jyotisha in an easy and understandable manner.

Some of these upayes (remedies) have been practiced in India for perhaps thousands of years; others have developed and emanated from different parts of the world as the knowledge of this form of astrology spread internationally, expanding rapidly since the latter half of the 1980’s. As I write this, I am often reminded of the debate that has sometimes occurred in the Jyotisha tradition. First, some astrologers view the role of the astrologer as being a guide to the client; others view it as the astrologer being a daivajna or a “knower of the will of God”. If the chart is the will of God, then is the astrologer of client working against the universe when he or she recommends
remedial measure? Or, if astrologers are supposed to know the predictive aspect of a chart, how can they possibly help the client change it? There is no easy or pat answer to these questions--and many more that reasonable people could ask. The idea of remedies, some of which are extraordinarily expensive, can have people who question astrology looking at it even more askance as some sort of elaborate con game, much like the practice that some fortunetellers (travelling or located in one place) have of offering to remove a curse from a family or an individual for several hundred dollars--then as the cures don’t work, the price of the cures go up and up. Several investigations occurred in the 1990’s in which fortune tellers were charged with fraud for such practices. I am not accusing my fellow astrologers of this kind of behavior as I write this. When we prescribe remedies, but these are cautions that any astrologer must bear in mind as remedies are prescribed. First, some remedies work immediately and show terrific, long lasting results. Others do not work all October 2019

As, speech is a marvellous gift from the God. Through impressive speech a native can express his views, moreover speech helps to attract attention of people. The way of speech is capable to give immense success but, on the contrary, it gives defame or insult also if properly not controlled. Person can adorn as many as costly jewellery but, if speech doesn’t having attraction or beauty then, the jewellery is useless, because of no attraction in the speech. Speech problems can be understood by ascertaining if Vaani Dosha exists in a horoscope.
Problems related to the speech is natural in children’s but, problem takes the shape of anxiety and tensions to the parents when the speech issues takes too long time to become clear, likewise; for children’s below the age group 5 to 7 years, stuttering and stammering this is a normal part of childhood and it depends on the child to child, because each child is different, fewer of takes long time to start talking but on the contrary delayed case of speech demands some action to rule out the cause.
