Niranjan Babu & Suprajarama Raman Wishing all the readers a very Happy New Year 2020! May this year bring peace and joy to everyone. 2020 is indeed a special year as it’s the beginning a new decade. As always, it is our special issue where we cover a variety of topics. And it’s that time of the year when we get busy reflecting on the year gone by and drawing predictions for the New Year. This edition offers detailed predictions from renowned Astrologers from multiple perspectives. As you must have experienced, the New Year 2020 arrived on the heels of a powerful solar eclipse in Sagittarius on December 26, 2019. What’s exceptional about this annular eclipse is that it involves six of the nine Vedic planets, including the ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter. Ms. Lalitha Donatella Riback sheds light on the planetary conditions of this Eclipse and its aftermath. She shares information about the various Eclipses of 2020 along with predictions for all Zodiac signs. 2

January 2020

Dr. Gary Gomes comes with the much-awaited world predictions. He uses three charts; one for the year in question starting at midnight January 1, 2020; one for the sunrise rising sign (both using Greenwich, UK as the location), and one for Makar Sankranthi, the start of the sign Capricorn that occurs on January 15, 2020 at 7:15 AM using Ujjain as the origin point. Dr. Gary provides spotlight on major countries including the US, India, Russia, Turkey and China. Overall, with the New Year occurring this year between two eclipses (December 26, 2019 and January 10, 2020) and the chart for the New Year having so many planets located on one sign, this year looks difficult for major governments, diplomacy, organized religion and even long distance travel. Dr. Gary also provides a glimpse into the Eclipses with high level predictions of all Zodiac signs. Other than predictions for the New Year, this edition covers some of the innovative techniques The astrological emagazine

in Astrology such as Nadi Astrology and Vastu Shastra. Mr. Ramadas Rao presents a perspective on Nadi Astrology to analyze horoscopes and draw predictions for a successful marriage. The method offers an alternative model to the usual method of Lagna based predictions. In his article, Ramadas Rao examines horoscopes of two couples and demonstrates how one can analyze the charts using the principles of Nadi Astrology. Vastu is a science that establishes harmony between people and nature. When people are in sync with natural elements, then nature helps in maintaining balance and smooth flow of energy that are required for any activity. Dr. Veeramaneni provides deep insights on the core principles of Vastu and its application on home and corporate offices. The principles applied for Home and Corporate are different. You can read through the article to learn the guiding principles while designing residential structures or corporate offices. The article also highlights the key benefits one can derive by practicing Vastu in life. In today’s hyper connected and fast paced world, “depression” is becoming increasingly rampant. With the rise of depression, especially amongst youngsters, Astrology comes as a boon and a preventive remedy to treat such a condition. Astrologer, Mr. Subhash Sharma throws light on various forms of depression, causes of it and explains the planetary combinations that lead to depression in humans. He also shows example of a chart to depict the relevance of planetary positions causing acute depression. At the end of the article, check out a few remedies that can be administered to tackle depression and how to overcome it. Determining death of a native has been a critical aspect of Astrology. We all know the Navamsa

Chakra and we use for various purposes in Jyotisha. Parashara, Varaha Mihira and Jamini Maha Rishi’s have given us some very fine methods to determine the longevity of a native. In this article, Mr. Nemani Venkata Raghunatha Rao shares one such method to determine death of a native using Khara Navamsa. He has found this method working very well with Pushya-Paksha Ayanamsa. In his article, he has shared pointers on how to use this method and illustrated the principles with a few very wellknown political leader’s charts to demonstrate its application. It is indeed a great method that can be considered by Astrolgers, however with caution. We are pleased to have Sat Siri Khalsa, a Jyotish practitioner as well as a teacher of Kundalini Yoga to contribute to our January edition with her deep knowledge on Astrology. It is an opportunity to share her insights on Parashara teachings and the power of Graha Lagna Chakra. World Trends and Predictions for 2020 | Dr. Gary Gomes

General Map of the New Year

Dr. Gary Gomes, BA, MBA, Ed.D. Dr. Gary Gomes has been a Vedic Astrologer since 1990. He is an ordained Swami of the Temple of Kriya Yoga and served as the Vice President/President of the Council of Vedic Astrology. He has taught at Kepler College and American College of Vedic Astrology (as a Board Member). Many of his articles have been published internationally. Dr. Gomes has appeared on both the radio and TV channels and has been one of the few astrologers who predicted Donald Trump’s victory at the November 2016 US Elections. With many awards and titles, he is respected as one who can convey complicated principles of Jyotisha in an easy and understandable manner.

In order to do world predictions, I use three charts; one for the year in question starting at midnight January 1, 2020; one for the sunrise rising sign (both using Greenwich, UK as the location), and one for Makar Sankranthi, the start of the sign Capricorn that occurs on January 15, 2020 at 7:15 AM using Ujjain as the origin point. The Midnight chart gives a Virgo rising sign; the Sun rises in Sagittarius in the morning. The planetary placements of the chart at New Year’s show Mars in Scorpio, a cluster of planets (Mercury, Jupiter, Ketu, Sun, Mercury, Saturn by ascending degree), Venus in Capricorn, Moon in Aquarius and Rahu in Gemini. If we take the Sunrise time, no planets change signs, but the Moon changes Navamsa positions from Aries to Taurus. The Navamsa positions of both charts are both the same; with Venus, Mercury, and Jupiter in

The astrological emagazine

the fourth house in Cancer; Mars, Sun and Ketu are in Leo; Saturn is in Sagittarius in the ninth house, and Rahu is in Aquarius in the 11th house. The consistency of the Navamsa positions is not surprising; the Navamsa ascendant of Aries can fluctuate a bit, as picking the beginning of the rising sign in which the Sun sits would probably not be every astrologer’s first choice, but I use equal house/sign for simplicity’s sake.

General Map of Makar Sankranthi For Makar Sankranthi, Mercury moves to Capricorn, Venus moves to Aquarius, Moon moves to Leo, and the Navamsa positions of the planets are Sun and Saturn in Sagittarius, Mercury in Capricorn, Rahu in Aquarius, Moon in Cancer; and Ketu in Leo; and Mars is in Libra and Venus in Scorpio. Overall, with the New Year occurring this year between two eclipses (December 26, 2019 and January 10, 2020) and the chart for the New Year having so many planets located on one January 2020

Architecture in Ancient India |Bangalore Niranjan Babu

The ancient Indians, rather Hindus, had a wonderful civilization. One of the proofs of this great civilization was their amazing architecture. The magnificent temples, palaces, forts and wonderful caves of ancient India are even today standing tall and strong in spite of the onslaughts of mlecchas over a length of time. These are the marvels of human ingenuity at a time when the so-called technological advancement of today was not there. Travelers from across the world are excited and amazed at the great architectural skills of the ancients thousands and thousands of years ago. It is said that the ancient architecture of India was so amazing that the early European observers did not find words, sufficiently intense, to express their wonder and admiration. Each piece of architecture of the ancient Indians gave importance to strength, durability apart from beauty. In fact, these were the primary qualities of the Hindu Style of Architecture. Thornton says: “The ancient Indians erected buildings, the solidity of which has not been overcome by the revolution of thousands of years.”

Temple of Borobudur Havell in his book Indian Sculpture and Painting describes the 8th/9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple of Borobudur as “The great building from the basement to the seventh storey was adorned with a series of wonderful sculptures and reliefs extending in the aggregate for a length of nearly three miles.” He concludes, “There is no living artist within the boundaries of Europe who can produce anything, either in painting or sculpture to be placed side by side with these wonderful reliefs.” The astrological emagazine

The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. It is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa. The temple demonstrates the influences of Gupta Art and Architecture and reflects India’s influence on this predominantly muslim region (of Indonesia).

Prambanan Temple, Indonesia The Prambanan Temple is another 9th-century Hindu temple in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, dedicated to the three primary Gods known as Trimurthi - Brahma, the Creator, Vishnu the Preserver and Maheswara (Siva), the destroyer (of evil). The temple is located approximately 17 kilometres northeast (eashyanya or the space of God) of the city of Yogyakarta on the boundary between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sir Stanford Raffles, British Governor of Java, says, “In the whole course of my life, I have never met with such stupendous and finished specimens of human labour.” January 2020

Accurate Marriage Predictions With Nadi | H. Ramadas Rao Marriage is a lifelong journey that thrives on love, commitment, trust, respect and companionship. Therefore, it is extremely important to ensure that one leads a happy and fulfilling married life. Ramadas Rao, presents a perspective on Nadi Astrology to analyze horoscopes and draw predictions for a successful marriage. The method offers an alternative model to the usual method of Lagna based predictions. The author examines horoscopes of two couples and demonstrates how one can analyze the charts using the principles of Nadi Astrology.

Introduction Since time immemorial marriage has been the greatest of all institutions in human society, across all cultures. Marriage is a sacrosanct union. It is also an important social institution. Marriages in India are between two families, rather two individuals. If so, then why some marriages lose its charm and slowly fade away resulting into separation? How do we try and get accurate predictions that can result into a successful marriage? H Ramadas Rao was born in 1952 in a traditional Madhva Brahmin family of Kashyapa Maharshi lineage from Surathkal near to Mangalore. Through the Blessings of Shri Raghavendra Swami Ji of Mantralaya, he started learning Jyotish with the books written by Shri B.V.Raman. In 1991, he got a Mantra Diksha from a Shri Vidya Upasaka from Udupi. His interest in Jyotishya increased and he studied Jaimini Jyotishya and later Nadi Jyotishya from Shri R.G.Rao. He regularly writes articles on Nadi Jyotishya in his Facebook page and currently teaching Nadi Jyotish in Surathkal.

Traditionally, we have followed the Lagna based predictions for evaluating horoscopes for a marriage. I would like to present here, a different method, which is based on Nadi Astrology for evaluating horoscopes and deriving predictions for marriages. In the Lagna based predictions, we normally consider 7th house from Lagna and its lord, 2nd house and its lord, and 11th house and its lord along with Karaka of marriage that is Shukra or Venus. Whereas, in Nadi Astrology, • Guru or Jupiter is the Karaka of Jeeva and indicates male natives. • In female natives Shukra or Venus is Stree/Female Karaka but Jeeva Karaka remains the same i.e. Guru or Jupiter. Already the double transit theory of Guru or Jupiter and Shani or Saturn is famous, and we can agree that this Sutra as almost an accurate method to predict a marriage.

Yearly Predictions for 2020 | Lalitha Donatella Riback

The New Year 2020 arrives on the heels of a powerful solar eclipse in Sagittarius on December 26, 2019. What’s exceptional about this annular eclipse is that it involves six of the nine Vedic planets, including the ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter. While it’s important to remember that according to the Vedic tradition eclipses are not auspicious omens, and viewing the eclipse with our physical eyes should be strictly avoided, the Sun will nevertheless be quite a spectacle with its luminous ring caused by the Moon. The eclipse occurs at 9 degrees 58 minutes in Moola (meaning the ‘root’), a nakshatra or lunar mansion ruled by Ketu. The planets involved in the December 2019 solar eclipse are Saturn, Ketu, Jupiter, Sun, Moon, and Mercury. Eclipses can seem like wild cards that often reveal their true effects only weeks (and even months) after their occurrence. The astrological emagazine

Aftermath of the December 26, 2019 Solar Eclipse The countries in which the eclipse is visible include -Saudi Arabia, Qatar, India, Sumatra, Borneo, Guam and the Philippines, South India, Indonesia, and Singapore. These countries will witness a stronger impact of the eclipse. Usually eclipses announce some natural events like hurricanes, telluric movements, bad weather, political crises, and pressure on the personal and professional levels. You might feel more stressed in relationships or lose confidence in your capacities during this time. But for everyone, the eclipse is usually felt with some tension and confusion. The most affected signs will be: • Taurus (eclipse in the 8th house of sudden events) • Gemini (eclipse in the 7th house

of relationships & business partners) • Cancer (eclipse in the 6th house of health) • Leo (ruled by the eclipsed Sun in the house of creativity) • Virgo (in the 4th house of home and mother) • Sagittarius (eclipse house) • Capricorn (eclipse in the 12th house of hidden events) • Pisces (10th house of work & career) Of course, among Sagittarians, those who have the Moon or Sun or ascendant in Moola nakshatra might experience more stress, and undergo changes in personality, activities and relationships. But despite this impactful eclipse, positive change can also be expected in the following few months, as auspicious Jupiter in Sagittarius will gain more strength, and Saturn, the planet of work achievements, will be strong in Capricorn from the end of January 2020. Determining Death by using Khara Navamsa | Dr. Nemani Venkata Raghunatha Rao

Dr. Nemani Venkata Raghunatha Rao is from Parvatipuram (Near Vizag), AP, India, lives in San Francisco, USA. Dr. Raghunatha Rao has been practicing Vedic Astrology since 2002. With a doctorate in Business Management by profession. he considers H. Ramadas Rao, Pt. Sanjay Rath, Pt. Dakshinamoorthy Ramasamy and Swami Omkar as his Jyotish Teachers. Dr. Rao has recently received Jyotish Visharada from Council of Vedic Astrology (CVA), USA.

We all know the Navamsa Chakra that we use for various purposes in Jyotisha. Parashara, Varaha Mihira and Jamini Maha Rishi’s have given us some very fine methods to determine the longevity of a native. In this article, I will be sharing one such method to determine death of a native using Khara Navamsa. I found this method is working very well with PushyaPaksha Ayanamsa. I have used the following pointers and illustrated the principles with few very well-known political leader’s charts to demonstrate its application. Before venturing into the death analysis and predictions, it is very important to pray to Lord Siva with a Rudra Mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Rudraaya”. Let us understand what is Khara Navamsa. Jataka Parijata, Chapter V, Verse 56 says that 22nd Drekkana from that of the Drekkana occupied by the Lagna is called Khara Sthana. The 64th Navamsa from that of Navamsa occupied by the Moon

The astrological emagazine

is called the Khara Navamsa and by using this sensitive point we can determine a native’s death or longevity. Any of the modern Astrology software programs will calculate this easily.

Principles to follow 1. Identify the 64th Navamsa from Lagna or Moon 2. Identify dispositor of 64th Navamsa from Lagna or Moon 3. Death will take place whenever Rahu Transits on to the above Graha(s) or in 7th from it or have Rasi Drishti.

Notes: 1. I have used Pushya-Paksha Ayanamsa in this analysis. 2. It’s quite likely that the birth details you find elsewhere are slightly different from those I’ve used here. 3. Consider Jamini Rashi Drishti only here. 4. Appropriate Maha Dasa need to support the death of the native, in addition to this Rahu Transit(s) method.

Parashara has given more than one way to consider bhavas and more than one way to understand dṛṣṭis. One very useful if seldom applied method, is to read an equal house chakra from each of the family of grahas in a horoscope. Use the graha’s own degree as the lagna point and every house is 30 degrees further around the zodiac from this. The cusps, or bhava sandhis, are firm dividers of the houses. In the Nadis, grahas are known to be emanating pulses, which leap out as packets of light and sound. Each planet has its unique bija or seed sound that repeats in a cosmic jaap. These pulses carry dṛṣ, or light and meaning. Dṛṣ is the root for darshan as well as dṛṣṭi. When a graha has dṛṣ on another graha it is getting to know the other graha. The

planet looking is the dṛṣṭa graha, and the planet being seen is the dṛṣya graha. Ultimately we can add values for all these dṛṣṭis and understand which graha in the chart is receiving the most quality of light and knowingness, and which is lacking the most. This allows us to find which faculties of our humanness are strongest and weakest, so it is a most valuable topic. Many astrologers study only the sum of the dṛgbala, the total virupas given to aspected grahas, but it also is worth comparing how a planet puts out dṛṣ, as dṛṣṭa graha, to how it receives dṛṣ, as dṛṣya graha. Knowing leads to wisdom, so all dṛṣ ultimately will become sattva guna, even when it is the dṛṣ of a malefic, in which case the knowledge can come through some trouble. The more dṛs, the more knowledge and the more learning from experience, the more sattva accumulates. Since grahas are conscious beings with iccha shakti or desire, dṛṣ brings the fruits of the desire. The ordinary rasi chakra shows karma, but the Graha Lagna Chakra shows the learning from karma.
