Domino Effect of the Pandemic

Over 300 companies responsible for making such claims have received warning letters from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as of November 2020.2

Calcium

What is calcium and why do we need it?

Calcium is a mineral that is necessary for life. When most people think of calcium, they think of bone and dental health, but actually, calcium has many more functions in the body other than making our bones and teeth stronger. Whilst it is true that 99% of the calcium in our bodies is in the bones and teeth, calcium is integral in blood clotting mechanisms, muscle contraction and enabling the beating of the heart.

In order to give more clarity about the role of calcium in the body, I will elaborate a little on each of these specific functions.

Calcium and Bone Health

You probably understand that calcium is necessary for your bones. Calcium is essentially a building block for bone, but it can only be absorbed into the bone tissue if there is sufficient vitamin D and other nutrients such as magnesium and phosphorous to facilitate this process. That is why it is important for calcium supplements to combine with vitamin D in order to ensure adequate absorption. If there is insufficient vitamin D, then calcium in food and supplements will be released back into the blood stream and not be absorbed.

Calcium and Muscle Contraction

Calcium affects muscles by regulating contractions. Since the heart is also

a muscle, calcium is needed for the functioning of the heart in the same way as it is used in other muscle contractions. When a nerve stimulates a muscle, calcium is released into the blood. When the calcium is subsequently pumped out of the muscle, the muscle then relaxes. This is why a lack of calcium can cause cramps and muscle stiffness.

Calcium and Blood Clotting

The blood clotting process is a complex metabolic process, which involves several elements, including calcium. Vitamin K is one of the major nutrients associated with the coagulation process (blood clotting).

The ability to bind calcium ions (Ca2+) is required for the activation of seven vitamin K-dependent blood clotting factors. These are specific proteins like prothrombin which help to stop bleeding through clot formation.

Other Roles of Calcium in the Body

Calcium is a co-factor for many enzymes, without which they cannot work efficiently. Most of these enzymes are involved in muscle metabolism.

Low dietary intake of calcium and inadequate vitamin D status have been linked to the increasing prevalence of obesity worldwide. There is consistent evidence that calcium and vitamin D increase the breakdown of body fat (oxidation) and that calcium promotes a modest energy loss through increased fat excretion. Calcium is also linked to a higher metabolic rate, suppression of those enzymes, which play a role in fat deposition and reduced hunger or greater satiety..1

Is there a danger of too much calcium?

Very high levels of calcium in the blood can lead to kidney problems, calcification of soft tissues and blood vessels, kidney stones and constipation.

Since calcium is a positively charged ion (2+), it may interfere with the absorption and/or assimilation of other ions such as iron as they compete for similar absorption sites. It is also important to be aware of other conditions or diseases that may be present and either the condition or the medication required to treat certain conditions can lead to releasing excessive amounts of calcium into the blood. Thyroid conditions are one of the examples that can cause high calcium levels. If an individual consumes excessive amounts of carbonated beverages, too much magnesium (supplementation), excessive alcohol or caffeine consumption, then they may not absorb calcium effectively

and this will be reflected as high levels in the blood, contributing to the above-mentioned conditions.

How much calcium do you need?

General recommendations for calcium requirements are reflected below.

These recommended amounts vary slightly according to different countries and regulatory bodies.

intolerance or cow’s milk allergy, women who exercise excessively and those individuals who follow a vegan diet.

Generally, people who have adequate calcium in their diet tend to have: • lower blood pressure • improved cholesterol levels • a lower risk of colorectal tumors of the non-malignant kind • a lower risk of fracture in elderly people3

Good food sources of calcium include: • yogurt • milk • fortified dairy alternatives, such as soy milk • sardines and salmon • cheese • tofu • green leafy vegetables, such as broccoli, turnip leaves, watercress and kale.

It should be mentioned that some foods like spinach, strawberries and rhubarb, contain oxalic acid which can block calcium absorption. This isn’t normally a problem unless a person literally consumes abnormally large amounts of these foods and has a low calcium intake as a result. Also eating large quantities of oxalic acid, together with a low water intake, can also predispose

My Road To Recovery

I developed suffered from severe muscle, joint and throbbing body pain, possibly brought on by an incredibly stressful career as a stockbroker and trader since 1986, from a young age.

Adding to this stress was commuting between two big cities in South Africa, Johannesburg and Pretoria, daily, working exceptionally long hours, starting at 04h30 in the morning and continuing till 19h00 at night, 5 days a week. Hardly ever taking a break…

I was then advised to seek council from an Osteopath, a Sacro Cranial Therapist and a Sports Specialist. But to no avail.

I have always been a keen tennis player and used to play 4 to 5 times a week.

Owing to pain and my body’s recovery rate becoming slower I was eventually only able to play once a week.

An Osteopath/Sport Specialist, specializing in pain management, started treating my pain and stress, and he played an integral role getting me back on the tennis court after being unable to play for 6 months. This was only two years ago.

After the Specialist’s intervention I was back on the court twice a week.

During late February, early March, last year I developed a blood clot in my calf whilst playing tennis and after two weeks the blood clot went to my lungs and I landed up in ICU and had high care for over a week with a

double embolism. I still suffered a lot of pain after being in hospital; even after cutting sugar and wheat out of my diet.

AIM Just Carrots has been extracted from whole carrots. Carrot juice has long been known for its health benefits and is thought to boost immunity and maintain eye health. The main benefits of carrot juice are the following: Highly nutritious: 1 serving of AIM Just Carrots will provide 9 grams carbohydrate (7 grams sugars), provitamin A 6370mcg, 68 mg sodium and 358 mg potassium.

• Carrot juice may maintain eye health.

Specifically, one cup (250 ml) carrot juice provides over 250% of the recommended intake for vitamin A. In carrot juice this is in the form of beta-carotene which is converted into vitamin A by the body.

Carrot juice also provides the carotenoid pigments, lutein and zeaxanthin, which act as antioxidants in your body. These two carotenoids accumulate in the eyes and shield them from damaging light.

The main carotenoid in carrot juice is beta-carotene, which is responsible for carrots’ orange color. Your body converts it into the antioxidant vitamin A. • Improving your immunity: everyone in the medical fraternity will agree that if individuals improve their nutritional status, their immunity could also improve.

• Although carrot juice does contain some sugars (7 grams per serving in AIM Just Carrots), this amount is considerably lower than that found in fruit juices, sweetened cold drinks and other sugary beverages, so it makes a suitable replacement for that daily juice fix. for feeling better

My Husband Gert Kotze had the following injuries after a Motorcycle accident in 1982: he broke his collarbone and tore a nerve in his arm.

From that day on, he had constant pain in his arm. This worsened when the weather was stormy or cloudy.

There was feeling in the upper part of the arm, but he was paralysed from the elbow to the hand. He was able to move the middle finger yet he still experienced pain in his thumb.

In 2020, I bought Composure to help him to relax and sleep better. He also tried Composure during the day to see if it might help him to concentrate at work, but this made him tired during working hours.

I read a testimonial about CellSparc 360 and Proancynol 2000, so he started using these products in the evening.

The first night he used CellSparc 360, he fell asleep within half an hour. The same happened the next evening. He said that he was able to sleep better because the discomfort in his hand was reduced a little. He then decided to take this supplement during the day. It is so valuable to give your children the opportunity to be involved in a routine of taking supplements. It develops a sense of accomplishment and responsibility while delivering a great life lesson for a healthy lifestyle.

I always recommend sticking to the integrity of AIM’s whole-food concentrates, not disguising the taste by mixing the powders into favourite foods or flavoured drinks. Rather, I have found that by starting with small amounts— the size of a pinch of salt—given dry on the tongue always leads to the child taking a decent amount either dry or mixed in cold water. By the way, I love that the juice powders can be kept in the freezer.

A daily supplement routine is a time for parents to have one-on-one eye contact with their children, a connection that is valuable, especially at the beginning of the day.
