GinkgoSense Improved Formula

GingoSense - New formula can be used for the improvement of (age-associated) cognitive impairment and for quality of life in mild absentmindedness. It has traditionally been used for the relief of heaviness of the legs and the sensation of cold hands and feet associated with minor circulatory disorders, after serious conditions have been excluded by a medical doctor. GinkgoSense is used Cognitive Function

for

Symptoms that are common in cognitive fatigue and may include difficulties with concentration and memory loss, absentmindedness, lack of energy, fatigue, confusion, decreased physical performance, depressed mood and anxiety. These symptoms are sometimes associated with impaired cerebral circulation and therefore improving blood circulation may assist with the relief of these effects. GinkgoSense assists with the improvement of some cognitive function such as long working hours, attention-based tasks, speed of information processing, and immediate and long term memory loss in healthy adults. GinkgoSense may assist with the improvement of (age-associated) cognitive impairment and of quality of life in mild absentmindedness.

GinkgoSense contains ingredients which are traditional herbal medicinal ingredients used for the relief of minor circulatory disorders. GinkgoSense contains a group of flavonoids and terpenoids. These ingredients have anti-oxidant properties. These ingredients target free radicals that have been found to be causative in cell damage.

CELL FOOD

GinkgoSense is Improved vision

used

for

Age-related loss of vision, is usually caused by oxidative damage to the retina (from free radicals that target the retina cells). The antioxidant ingredients in GinkgoSense may assist with keeping the eye tissues healthy and free from age-related degenerative issues. People do not normally understand the importance of eye health until they are faced with losing their sight. We tend to take healthy eyes for granted. Prevention in this case, is better than treatment, as once eye tissue has been damaged, it is extremely difficult to reverse the damage. Improved blood circulation will also help to alleviate degenerative issues in the eye as many of them are linked to poor circulation.

The new formulation contains the following in two capsules daily: • 120 mg - Ginkgo Biloba leaf extract 24% Ginkgo Flavonglycosides 6% Terpene Lactones • 150 mg – Curcumin - Turmeric Extract (Standardized to 95% Cucuminoids) • 300 mg – Ashwagandha Root Powder • 10 mg – Black Pepper powder • 50 mg – Ginger Root Powder • 10 mg – Lutein • 500 mcg – Zeaxanthin

Safety Considerations

The use of GinkgoSense in children and adolescents under 18 years of age has not been established due to lack of adequate data. Due to possible stimulation of bile secretion GinkgoSense is not recommended in case of obstruction of the bile duct, cholangitis, liver disease, gallstones and any other biliary diseases. GinkgoSense may have an additive effect when used together with other complementary medicines or health supplements.

Conclusion

GinkgoSense is generally well tolerated and safe. The clinical effects may only come into effect after approximately 6 weeks. It is important to emphasize that taking any herbal supplements together with prescription medications must be managed by a qualified health professional. CELL FOOD

New Look New You

By Charlotte Meschede - Nutritionist

Proancynol 2000 and CellSparc 360 are two of AIM’s antioxidant products which have new labelling.

Proancynol 2000 is a formula containing a variety of antioxidants. However, first and foremost, let us understand what exactly is meant by the term “antioxidant”. Foods that contain antioxidant compounds have the ability to stabilize highly reactive, potentially harmful molecules called free radicals. These free radicals are generated during normal cellular metabolism and also from metabolism or breakdown of medications, alcohol and other toxins. Exposure to UV light, cigarette smoke and other harmful environmental pollutants also increases the body’s free radical load. Free radicals have the ability to damage membranes, enzymes and DNA structures and therefore eating foods or taking supplements that have a high concentration of antioxidants is important to help neutralize these free radicals and therefore protect the structural integrity of cells and tissues.

What 2000?

about

Proancynol

Proancynol 2000 contains the following nutrients per serving of 2 capsules: Vitamin A (as beta carotene) 1 495 µg Selenium 200 µg Green Tea Extract 100 mg Rosemary Extract 100 mg Grape Seed Extract 50 mg N-Acetyl-Cysteine 30 mg Alpha-lipoic Acid 26 mg Lycopene 2 mg There are many clinical trials and reviews that have focused on how antioxidants can protect the various structures from damage and have investigated the use of antioxidants in the improvement of specific immune responses. A review by Adrianne Bendich (Human Nutrition Research) from New Jersey (USA), found that supplementation with Vitamins E and A or beta-carotene supported a healthy immune response in individuals exposed to environmentally produced free radicals.

CELL FOOD

One of the most popular antioxidants to be studied is a group called proanthocyandins, which are naturally occurring antioxidants in fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, flowers and bark. These compounds have been shown to have a broad spectrum of biological, pharmacological and therapeutic activities against free radicals and oxidative stress (Oxidative stress reflects an imbalance between the systemic manifestation of reactive oxygen species and a biological system’s ability to readily detoxify the reactive intermediates or to repair the resulting damage). A specific proanthocyanidin found in grape seeds called GPSE was used in a trial (reported in Science Direct 2003) which compared the scavenging ability of GSPE with those of vitamins C, E and beta-carotene. The experiments showed that GPSE is highly bioavailable and may provide protection against free radicals and consequent damage to tissue as well as all the above-mentioned vitamins. Other studies have focused on cardiovascular health and the benefits of GPSE in this context. GPSE was found to maintain healthy cardiac function.

Proancynol 2000 assists with improving memory in healthy adults. Proancynol 2000 is a source of an amino acid involved in muscle protein synthesis.

CellsSparc 360

The NEW LOOK CellSparck 360 has the following formula: Co Enzyme Q10 60 mg Fish oil 238,8 mg Palm Oil extract 100 mg Vitamin E 6 mg The ingredients of Cellsparc 360 are antioxidants for the maintenance of good health and contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Cellsparc 360 is a source of omega-3 fatty acids for the maintenance of good health and is a source of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) for the maintenance of good health.

Conclusion

In summary it is important to know that taking Proancynol 2000 and Cellsparc 360 do provide antioxidant ingredients which have been shown through research to improve immune response, maintenance of good health and overall well-being !

The specific indications for Proancynol 2000 are as follows: Proancynol 2000 provides antioxidants for the maintenance of good health. Proancynol 2000 assists with cognitive performance, mental alertness and contentment.

Beet Juice

Comparisons can make for interesting studies, especially when the people tested have significant age differences. When older people come out on top, the results can seem even more impressive. Such is the case when researchers in New Zealand and Thailand conducted a 2019 study examining the effects of nitrate-rich beetroot juice.

Beet juice also reduced systolic blood pressure for all ages. Older participants showed a greater reduction in diastolic blood pressure.

Volunteers were chosen from two age groups: 18-30 years old and 50-70 years old. All were healthy and recreationally active individuals, but none of the participants were well-trained sportspersons or elite athletes. Nor did they use nitrate-based supplements.

Reaction time improved equally for all ages and no differences were observed between age groups in the other cognitive tests.

For the study, participants consumed beet juice 2.25 hours before walking 30 minutes on a treadmill. Throughout the trial, they were tested for blood nitrate and nitrite concentrations, heart rate, blood pressure, mood, perception and cognition. Drinking beet juice significantly increased blood nitrate (NO3) and nitrite (NO2), which convert to nitric oxide (NO). Nitrate levels were higher in the older group, due to an expected age-related decrease in nitric oxide activity.

8

Mar - Apr 2020 / to order call 011-675-0477

The study concluded that supplementation with beetroot juice can reduce blood pressure and improve cognitive aspects, providing potential health benefits for young and old. Of course, AIM Members of all ages have been enjoying the health benefits of supplementing with beet juice ever since the introduction of RediBeets back in 1993. The AIM Fields of Barley

The Roots of BarleyLife It is said that Christopher Columbus brought the first seeds of barley grass to the shores of the Americas in 1493. It wasn’t until the 1970s in Japan that extracting the unparalleled nutrition in the blades of grass for human consumption was explored. And the nutritious juice powder of young barley leaves known as BarleyLife was made available by AIM in 1982.

Before the harvesting of young barley leaves begins, the outer perimeter of each field is cut and removed, effectively purging the perimeter. This prevents any other plants from ending up in BarleyLife. Additionally, the lower-quality barley grass growing on field edges is used for animal feed. Only the remaining nutrient-rich grass inside the perimeter purge finds its way into BarleyLife.

They Only Come Out at Night When AIM harvests young barley leaves, it happens under cool, night skies. Barley grass contains coldprotective nutrients that increase when the temperature drops, so harvesting the leaves in the dark ensures their nutritional peak state.

The Best in Beets For a vegetable that has gotten a bad rap for its taste over the years, the beet has managed to rise to superfood status. Beets are a great source of the nitrate needed for nitric oxide production. These nourishing vegetables also provide many other beneficial nutrients, including anti-inflammatory betacyanin and betaine, which was first discovered in beet juice back in the 19th century. As a result, beets are considered to be one of the most nutritious root vegetables ever unearthed.

Tested pesticide-free

SOD, Lutonarin & Saponarin BarleyLife provides an astonishing number of beneficial nutrients, including the super enzyme, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and the flavonoids, lutonarin and saponarin. As a potent antioxidant, SOD defends the body against oxidative stress. The antioxidant activity of lutonarin and saponarin also protects against damage caused by free radicals.

Cold-processing the juice of beets preserves the raw vegetable nutrients found in RediBeets. Each canister of RediBeets contains

15

pounds of beets

Why Say Yes to NO? NO is the abbreviation of the nitric oxide molecule, a colorless gas that your body produces primarily through the conversion of vegetable nitrate. Nitric oxide benefits include the relaxing and widening of blood vessels, promoting lower blood pressure. Nitrate-rich vegetables such as red beets naturally support nitric oxide production in your body. RediBeets delivers over 70 milligrams of vegetable nitrate in each 4-gram serving.

Each whole-food concentrate in the Garden Trio is glutenfree. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), for a product to be considered gluten-free, it must have less than 20 parts per million (ppm). BarleyLife, Just Carrots and RediBeets have all met this requirement.

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are “bioengineered” plants or animals, using gene-splicing. However, nature creates plants and animals that are NOT genetically modified organisms: Non-GMOs. The Garden Trio and every other AIM product is Non-GMO.

Cultured Enzymes Protease Amylase Lipase Cellulase Lactase Maltase Invertase

The Enzyme Basics Although enzymes are present in all things that are alive, these protein molecules are not living things. Think of them as essential tools for chemical reactions in the body, including muscle contraction, metabolism and digestion. Active as enzymes are, there’s no life in them even though you can’t live without them.

Prepare with PrepZymes Big meal ahead? Having a processed food moment? Planning on doing some fast fooding? Whenever you are in the mood to challenge your stomach, having PrepZymes on hand is preparation that will go a long way in avoiding digestive discomfort.

Moving Beyond Digestion Taken with meals, digestive enzymes go to work at helping to break down food so that it can eventually be used for energy. When you take the same enzymes on an empty stomach, they go to work at reducing inflammation in body systems.1 In some European countries, treating inflammatory conditions with systemic (aka proteolytic) enzymes has become commonplace. PrepZymes contains systemic enzymes, including protease and papain. 1

Fiber Intake: Hit or Miss Even though fiber is a fundamental nutrient for maintaining good health, most people miss the recommended intake by a long shot. Instead of the 21 to 38 grams daily— depending on age and gender—the average fiber intake is between 10 – 15 grams.2 Taking Herbal Fiberblend helps to hit the targeted amount so that you don’t miss out on the essential health benefits of fiber.

Herbal Fiberblend’s main source of fiber is

psyllium, providing both types of fiber:

Soluble fiber becomes gel-like, slowing both digestion and the absorption of blood sugar. Insoluble fiber bulks up stool, providing an intestinal-wall scrubber.

How Many Times Should You Go? The most recent study suggests that the “normal” number of bowel movements ranges from 3 per day to at least 3 per week.1 Going once a day at a usual time may be your normal. The healthy key is to be regularly eliminating waste from your body to keep the intestinal tract clean and toxin-free.

FloraFood’s probiotic formula introduces 3 strains of good bacteria to repopulate your

gut, delivering 3 billion live cells per capsule. Good bacteria actively support healthy digestion and communicate among body systems to maintain good health.

The FloraFood Trio of Good Bacteria Lactobacillus gasseri Bifidobacterium bifidum Bifidobacterium longum

Your microbiome is comprised of essential microbial life within your life. Scientific research continues to reveal the benefits of having a diverse multitude of bacterial strains. It’s as though the microbiome is a virtual organ of your body that keeps you healthy. So, you need to be mindful of the adverse side effects that drugs and processed foods have on your microbiome.1

Lactobacillus gasseri is normally present in the digestive and urinary tracts, helping to strengthen a healthy immune system and aid digestion.

Microbes are tiny living things that you can only see with a microscope. Dietary probiotics are the good kind of microbes.

The non-profit International Probiotics Association (IPA) reports that there are more than 53 million probiotic users across the USA alone. The majority are millennials. Globally, sales of probiotics in 2018 topped 5.6 billion US dollars. bit.ly/MicrobiotaHealth 1

Taking Fit ’n Fiber with FloraFood is a nourishing move for you and your microbiota.

Fiber: The Overlooked Nutrient

Before the 1970s, fiber was not considered to be an important part of daily food intake, mainly because it is not digested. Of course, opinions change over time, especially when the incredible health benefits of fiber were recognized. Today, fiber is also known to be a healthy nutrient for the microbiota, feeding the good bacteria that keep you healthy.

Each serving of Fit ’n Fiber feeds good bacteria with 8 grams of prebiotic fiber.

Some Fit ’n Fiber Benefits: Increases fiber intake Supports digestive health Provides soluble and insoluble fiber Promotes regular bowel movements

• • • •

• Helps in achieving weight management goals • Maintains good gut bacteria with nourishing food

Biotic: Pre & Pro

The word biotic relates to life and living organisms. Probiotic signifies the good bacteria in your microbiota.

FloraFood is a probiotic formula that adds 3 billion live cells of healthy microorganisms to repopulate your good gut bacteria.

Prebiotic refers to the food that feeds the good bacteria in your gut.

Fit ’n Fiber is an everyday supplement that delivers 3 types of probiotic-feeding, prebiotic fiber: acacia, konjac and guar gum.

The Vitamin D in CalciAIM

Having sufficient calcium in your diet means you’re giving your body the primary building block of strong and healthy bones. However, your body also needs the presence of vitamin D to absorb this mineral; otherwise, calcium can be wasted. CalciAIM contains ergocalciferol, a plant-based source of vitamin D that helps your body to effectively absorb calcium.

Worried about Kidney Stones?

It is vital for children and adolescents to have a sufficient intake of calcium. During these stages of life, bone structure is continuously broken down by the body as new bones are built. Fittingly, this process is called remodeling, and bones grow in size and strength because the body is building more bone material than it is removing.

According to the National Kidney Foundation®: “A diet low in calcium actually increases your risk of developing kidney stones . . . The recommended calcium intake to prevent calcium stones is 1,000 – 1,200 mg per day . . ..” And drink plenty of water daily!

Fiber is the material in plants that is not digested by your body. One type of fiber is insoluble, meaning it moves through your digestive tract like a brush that scrubs the intestinal walls and softens stools for easy elimination.

The second type of fiber is soluble, which dissolves in water and turns into a gel-like substance that regulates blood sugar, reduces cholesterol and inhibits the absorption of substances that are harmful to your body.

Fit ’n Fiber delivers healthy sources of both insoluble and soluble fiber.

As the most abundant mineral in the human body, calcium plays a vital role in many body processes, such as hormone secretion, blood clotting and muscle contraction, most notably in the heart. L-lysine is an essential amino acid that has to come from dietary intake or a supplement. L-lysine is necessary for the formation of collagen, a protein in cartilage, tendons, skin and bone. Studies indicate that L-lysine aids the intestinal absorption of calcium and the kidneys’ conservation of absorbed calcium, which helps prevent high levels of this mineral from being excreted in urine and causing kidney stone formation.

CalciAIM provides bioavailable

calcium from three types of calcium just by mixing it with water.

The Bad Rap on Fat AIMega: Healthy Fat Capsules •

380 mg of Omega-3: Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)

• •

190 mg of Omega-6: Linoleic acid (LA) 200 mg of Omega-9: Oleic acid (OA)

Consuming too much fat or unhealthy types have given this necessary nutrient a really bad reputation. It’s important to remember that most nutrients in food come from carbohydrates, proteins and, yes, fats. Low-fat diets are not healthy in the long run if you eliminate all the healthy ones, such as omega-3 and -6 polyunsaturated fats and omega-9 mostly monosaturated fats. AIMega helps to supplement all three from the organic oils of flax, sunflower and sesame seeds and olives.

Your body can make most of the fats it requires from other fats or raw materials. However, omega-3 and -6 must come from your diet, making them essential fatty acids.

Omega-3 and -6 are necessary components of all healthy cell membranes. Both fats support cell receptor functions, including gene expression and overall energy balance.

Alphalinolenic acid (ALA) is plant-based omega-3.

Going Mediterranean It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle that incorporates omega-9 oleic acid from olive oil: the Mediterranean Diet’s staple source of healthy fat.

Three Proancynol 2000 Ingredients 1.

The variety of polyphenols in green tea extract, such as flavanols, flavandiols and phenolic acids, protect against oxidative stress and increase the antioxidant capacity of the body.

2.

Anti-inflammatory compounds and antioxidants in rosemary extract boost the immune system and circulation.

3. The antioxidants in grape seed extract include anthocyanins, flavonoids and oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) that help to protect against inflammation, tissue damage and oxidative stress. The seven ingredients in Proancynol 2000 deliver a diversity of powerful antioxidants that defends the body against free radical damage. Antioxidants are our protector molecules that donate missing electrons to free radicals so that they become stable and can no longer cause damage to our cells, proteins or DNA.

No one can avoid the free radicals that come from dietary intake and the environment or those that form naturally during metabolism. Just breathing in air creates free radicals made up of split oxygen molecules with unpaired electrons. Although the immune system uses free radicals to combat bacteria, their overproduction creates a chain reaction of oxidative stress that damages the body. The key is balance, which is maintained by antioxidants.

Garden Trio changed my life

CELL FOOD

By Elize Knoezen - AIM Member

My life changed the day I met my sponsor and was introduction to the AIM products. My mother passed away at the age of 54 due to four heart attacks in one go. My journey started to establish whether it could happen to me. Being a non-smoker for the last 10 years, family history of high cholesterol and a brother undergoing a few heart bypasses, I had to know what I could do to improve my life. I was diagnosed with a few conditions such as insulin-resistance and elevated Uric acid. I lost some weight over time but still did not know the reason for all of my symptoms. I attended a talk on Nutrition and it opened my eyes to Gut Health, Before

Gluten-sensitivity and the problems surrounding. I started following a gluten and diaryfree eating plan. I didn’t follow any conventional diet at this stage as we concentrated only on Gut Health and improving my health. It was suggested that I take the Garden Trio to feed my body with the right nutrients. With all of the support and help from my sponsor, I cannot remember when last I felt so good. My skin improved, my mind-set improved, I lost more weight and compliments were flowing in. It’s a lifestyle I want to share with everyone! AIM Garden Trio has been good to me!

Overweight Children What can we do?

By Charlotte Meschede - Nutritionist

Has anyone noticed how the incidence of children being overweight or obese has risen dramatically? How often in the 60’s and 70’s were we aware of children being overweight? In the US, the incidence of obesity since the 1970’s in children between 2 and 5 years has doubled, whilst the incidence has trebled in the 6-11 year age group. The impact of obesity on a child

We don’t have to be doctors or psychologists to see the negative impact being overweight has on a child. The psycho-social consequences include depression, anxiety, exclusion and low self-esteem. The medical consequences are vulnerability to develop diabetes, abnormal bone growth, higher incidence of suicides and substance abuse. According to a recent survey, 1 out of every 5 children in South Africa is obese or overweight. If the current trends continue, 3.91 million school children will be overweight or obese by 2025. In urban areas, the prevalence is approximately 30%. Childhood obesity is also a strong predictor of adult obesity and is extremely difficult to treat once it is established. Obesity established in childhood creates an inflammatory environment and virtually guarantees the onset of diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Given all the above, it is not surprising that intervention and establishment of normal body weight and fat percentage presents extreme benefits. However, it is the resetting of all the biological factors that drive appetite and 20

metabolism that presents the greatest challenge to health practitioners. In my practice, I have seen literally hundreds of overweight or obese children in my 42 years of consulting.

What causes childhood obesity?

Are children born fat? Is it from overfeeding from birth or is it simply genetics? I’m sure you’ve all heard, “it is my genes that have made me fat!” And, yes, as far as genes are concerned, there are some people who will pick up weight more quickly than others. Some individuals have a greater tendency to develop diabetes than others and so the list goes on. The answers are not as simple, and the causes of childhood obesity could be due to a number of biological factors over which we have little or no control. However, there are a few common denominators in most of them. These are: • Overfeeding from a young age • Too much sugar and fat in the diet due possibly to too many snacks and fast foods that are so freely available • Too little exercise • Watching too much TV or digital entertainment

Interventions that can help children with weight issues •

• •

• • •

Firstly and most importantly, get rid of all sugary snacks, biscuits, sugary drinks and cakes from your pantry Limit TV or digital entertainment to ONE hour a day Have regular meals with structured snacks so children are discouraged from constant ‘grazing’ Ensure your grocery cupboard is well stocked with healthy foods so there is no excuse for eating junk food Plan activities that involve physical exertion Always sit down to eat as a family at least once a day Discuss health and good nutrition principles as a family so no-one feels isolated or targeted when it comes to being overweight. Half the problem is that we don’t educate our children well enough in these matters

What supplements are recommended? •

AIM ProPeas is especially useful in helping to provide a child’s daily requirement of essential proteins. These proteins are needed to build a healthy bone structure and muscular system. Protein requirements of children aged 4 – 13 is virtually double those of an adult and is often neglected in the normal healthy diet. This occurs especially in those families relying on fast or ready-made foods as the ‘protein’ component of the meal is frequently very minimal and often compromised as it may be fried in unhealthy oils and fats. Also making sure children have an adequate protein intake is crucial in managing appetite as high-sugar, carbohydrate foods will cause a

spike in insulin levels and increase appetite and decrease the sense of fullness. AIM Fit n Fiber is also very useful in helping to keep the digestive system working correctly. Many fast foods are low in fibre and this contributes to constipation. AIM Fit n Fiber is indicated to assist with the relief of constipation and assists with gastrointestinal tract support. AIM FloraFood is a probiotic which when ingested on a regular basis, improves and normalises the microbial balance in the human intestines and thereby improves the functioning of the digestive tract/ gut. AIM BarleyLife and/or LeafGreens are concentrated sources of all the nutrients, including essential amino acids (proteins), that naturally occur in leafy green vegetables. Many children are fussy eaters, so trying to incorporate 4- 5 servings of vegetables on a daily basis simply doesn’t happen.

Conclusion

No-one has all the answers in trying to correct this global epidemic, but we all need to start somewhere and step one should be at home. Teaching your children the why’s and how’s of good eating habits has long lasting and extremely beneficial consequences that will set them up for a healthy life forever.

Cocoa LeafGreens for

Sinus

By Philip Jacobs Bethlehem - AIM Member I am pleased to share my experience with the AIM Products. My family and I have been using the FloraFood in our house for a couple of years now and have always had a good experience with the product. About 8 months ago I called my sponsor to get advice for the sinus I have been struggling with. She suggested that I start taking Cocoa LeafGreens along with FloraFood as well as adjusting my diet. I started feeling the results very soon.

LeafGreens I am not even aware of the sinus. I am currently using ProPeas, FloraFood, Peak Endurance, Herbal Fiberblend, Composure and CalciAIM along with my Cocoa LeafGreens. Thank you AIM!

I kept on using both of the products until I went on holiday in December, but left my products at home. The symptoms returned quickly and I really suffered. I am a cyclist and sometimes have issues with sinus early in the morning, but when I take the Cocoa
