The Ultra Degree of Processed

Terminology can be modified over the years and being aware of these modifications is part of the dissemination of information from AIM to Members and Customers. For example, there have been many variations of the word “processed” when it comes to food and food products.

Back in 2009, the NOVA classification put edible foods into four groups:

1. Unprocessed or minimally processed foods

2. Processed culinary ingredients

3. Processed foods

4. Ultra-processed foods¹

In March 2024, The Lancet Regional Health published an article focusing on the extensive number of packaged foods and beverages in the US, using elements of the NOVA classification system to identify ultraprocessed foods (UPFs) and foods high in saturated fat, salt and sugar (HFSS). The idea was to provide policymakers with a simple and accurate way to identify less healthy food and beverage products.²

Identifying unhealthy foods is vital for each of us to avoid the proven health consequences of consuming ultra-processed foods and beverages and fat-, salt- and sugar-rich foods. Fast foods fall into the ultra-processed category. Globally, the modern food supply has exposed people to exceptionally poor nutrition linked to a significant variety of chronic conditions.³

Just to be clear, ultra-processed foods contain many ingredients and additives that make ready-to-eat meals, snacks and sugary beverages addictively appealing. The trick is to be addicted to ultra-nutritious whole foods that are unprocessed or minimally processed, especially those that are plant-based. These forms of food offer the healthiest choices that have proven to promote good health.⁴

Always Back to School

The education that children receive in school is very different from what they may take in through devices connected to the internet. This makes what is learned at home these days all the more important for maintaining a knowledgeable balance of evidencebased information. One of the most consequential components of an education relates to health, particularly in regard to nutrition.

Many of these interactive platforms engage children in product advertising. By encouraging the posting of photos featuring their favorite ultra-processed foods, companies get free advertising for selling unhealthy products, along with collecting personal data about preferences for junk foods.²

Fifteen years ago, attempts were made by public health experts to address unhealthy food marketing to children. However, social media in the forms of Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, etc. continues to target children with captivating games and influencers that advertise the attractiveness of ultra-processed foods. Many are fat-filled, sugar-rich and salt-laden meals and snacks that induce obesity and disease over the long term.¹ Not exactly a healthy balance of information.

Q: How many pumps or applications should one expect from each of the three REPLY products?

A: Extensive testing has been conducted on the bottle, atomizer and pump mechanisms to monitor the quantity and potential variability of each administered dose. AIM Blue Diamond Director Shakti Selwood from Queensland, Australia, shared a helpful tip about using the REPLY Day & Night Cream, which is packaged in a round container with a well-designed air pump. Her recommendation for proper use of the air pump is to press it once and then wait two to three seconds, allowing the pump to rest and for air to flow back behind the cream. A single full pump should be enough for your entire face. In addition, the cream container features a screw-top lid, minimizing wastage as the cream amount decreases.

In Memoriam: Ruby Opal Wright

1936 – 2024

My mother, Ruby Opal Wright, first learned about The AIM Companies™ BarleyLife powder a few weeks after I had been in a motorcycle accident that nearly took my life. I was 27 years old at the time.

During that time, a close family friend told my Mom about a testimonial from Janet Pauly titled "My Miracle." Janet had shared her remarkable experience with BarleyLife. After learning about this nutritious green product, my mother believed BarleyLife could help my broken body and bones.

The crash left me with two broken femurs, a fractured sternum and clavicle, cracked ribs, internal bleeding and a highgrade concussion, all of which kept me in a hospital bed for several weeks. My healing process wasn't going well, and my doctors indicated that I would need more surgeries if my overall recovery didn't start to improve quickly.

How do you feel about achieving this award?

While this award marks a financial milestone on my AIM journey, it represents so much more for me. To say it changed me and my family’s lives is an understatement. As a single parent, I was able to contribute to further studies for my family. I managed to keep a roof over our heads, prevent our home from being repossessed, cover unexpected medical expenses and pay for legal costs. I am grateful for AIM and the owners of The AIM Companies for the unique products and opportunities they’ve made accessible. I truly feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

Why did you first join AIM?

I had health challenges back in 1993. After my family and I experienced amazing results from taking the juice powder of barley leaves, I joined AIM in 1996.

What are a few strategies you use to promote your AIM business?

I listen actively to the needs and values of each individual I consult with. I also participate and promote one-on-one training platforms offered online.

What motivates you?

My inner drive is to coach, grow and facilitate others to live their best life. Seeing my team flourish is what motivates me the most.

What is your approach to motivating your AIM team to achieve results?

I support each person through the process of identifying their own motivation and encourage them to apply steps to achieve their goals. Duplication is the key!

How would you define success ?

Success is never giving up on your purpose and potential.

Are there any challenges you occasionally or regularly face?

There are always going to be challenges, which I consider an opportunity to grow. A challenge I routinely face is how to introduce this unique AIM business opportunity to new generations.

What has been the most rewarding part of your AIM journey?

I have made lifelong friends whom I now consider family. Then there’s the significant impact of the AIM products and philosophy on my well-being, along with the financial compensation that allows me to pursue my passion for working with people.

How has AIM changed since you became a Member?

Over my 28 years with AIM, this company has grown through significant times of change and continuously sought to improve wherever possible, e.g., unique harvesting techniques, new products and product lines, and quality and alignment to their core values.

FloraFood to the Rescue

Back in November 2023, I participated in the Ride Joburg Bicycle Race. The Wednesday before the competition, I had a stomach bug that forced me to stay in bed for one and a half days.

On the evening before the race, I ordered a big portion of sushi, as it is a good source of carbohydrates and fairly light on the stomach. Halfway through my meal, I began experiencing cramps and discomfort.

I realized that there was no way that I would be able to finish my dinner and possibly would not finish the race the following day either. Although I was not race-ready, I decided to compete anyway as all the logistics had been finalized.
