the Benefits of AIM

NOVEMBER 2019

Improving the Quality of People’s Lives In early September, AIM once again partnered with AIM Director Charlie Lotshaw to host the AIM and Lotshaw Helping Hands event for 2019. This year we took 120 needy children from our local community shopping. Each child went with a volunteer and was given $100 to buy clothes and shoes. They also received a backpack filled with personal care items and some school supplies. Each child could choose at least one item from toys that were donated to the Lotshaw Helping Hands, and a few children also won new bicycles.

Employees from the Nampa JC Penney store provided meals for the kids. Several AIM employees and some family members stopped by to visit with the kids, letting them know that they do matter! For the past 24 years, AIM employees have been an integral part of these

wonderful events, showcasing AIM’s dedication to helping people improve the quality of lives in our local community.

Changing Diabetes There was a time when type 2 diabetes was a disease that affected older adults only. The past few decades have unleashed the onset of this disease among children, adolescents and young adults around the world. Obesity is considered to be a major factor in this change. Generally, weight issues are the result of eating unhealthy food. There was also a time when type 2 diabetes did not affect people in most “non-Western-diet” countries. But the increasing popularity of junk food over the past thirty years or so is believed to explain the rise of this life-threatening disease worldwide for all age groups.1 Again, the finger points at unhealthy food as the main culprit.

If people equate eating junk food with consuming inflammation, they would be correct. Inflammation is at the core of diseases such as diabetes, so why choose to feed on inflammatory nutrition when there are proven healthier choices?

The Proof Is in the Plants

With so much research on type 2 diabetes and “going plant-based”, it’s not always easy to make sense of it all. The Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health succeeded in putting it altogether in July 2019.

What’s Wrong with This Diet?

Highly processed food that is high in calories and low in nutrients can be considered “junk” particularly when it contains added salt, sugar and saturated or trans fat. Junk foods tend to be addictive and promote inflammation in the body. Consuming them more than twice a week increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.2

I am thrilled about GlucoChrom for my diabetes. I used to have swelling in my ankles, but that’s gone down and so has my A1C level. Maria Sipple, AIM Member Dayton, Ohio

The data from nine recent studies were combined, examining nearly 24,000 cases of incident type 2 diabetes and over 300,000 participants.3 The conclusion: stick to a mostly plant-based diet to prevent type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes The body produces insufficient amounts of insulin or cannot effectively use it to channel blood sugar into cells, resulting in chronic inflammation.

Plant-Based Food Junk Food

AIM for Plant-Based

Eating mostly plant-based food is an overall good recipe for staying healthy. Complementing this with AIM products provides an added daily concentration of plant nutrients. With a wide selection of supplemental nutrition, The AIM Companies™ has been providing an adjunct to wholesome food intake for nearly four decades. Contributing to whole-body health and targeting specific concerns is the aim. For example, to help maintain blood glucose health, GlucoChrom delivers a combination of natural ingredients that increases the effective action of insulin. For those with blood sugar issues, taking this natural health product in conjunction

with adopting a plant-based diet can be of great benefit. AIM’s whole-food powders take concentrated nutrients to a substantial level. BarleyLife, BarleyLife Xtra, LeafGreens, CoCoa LeafGreens, Just Carrots, RediBeets and ProPeas all fit finely into an anti-inflammatory, plantbased diet. And being easily absorbed powders, they give the body a digestive break while delivering a profusion of plant nutrients suitable for people of all ages. Antioxidants with Proancynol 2000

Adding

Like everything in life, the secret seems to be balance . . . even for breathing.

that deliver an even greater number of antioxidants.

The contradiction of oxygen is that you need it to stay alive, but once inside your body, it splits into single atoms with unpaired electrons. When these free radicals begin to outnumber antioxidants, oxidative stress damages cell membranes, DNA and proteins, which can lead to the onset of disease.

For example, green tea extract contains four kinds of polyphenols, providing antioxidants that go after free radicals called reactive oxygen species (ROS). Also effective at deactivating the many ROS, rosemary

External free radicals include air pollution, chemicals and fried foods. Even converting food into energy generates free radicals, so they are a fact of life. Fortunately, your body produces antioxidants, but not enough to maintain the balance. So eating antioxidant-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables is essential. And taking Proancynol 2000 can easily supplement your essential, antioxidant intake.

Antioxidant Diversity

The wide variety of free radicals requires a diversity of antioxidants to neutralize them. Proancynol 2000 contains seven ingredients

leaf extract releases antioxidant phytonutrients such as carnosol, ursolic acid and rosmarinic acid.

By defusing free radicals, Proancynol 2000’s antioxidants boost your immune system to better protect you during the cold and flu season.

The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far from the Tree Shared by Cindy Ponchot, Star Sapphire Director in Middletown, Ohio My mother, Lois Koch, used to ride motorcycles as a teenager. When she and my father were dating, she would go for rides on the back of his motorbike. Just this year, my mom let us know that she wanted to take another motorcycle ride. She’s 89 years old. What allowed her to get back on a motorcycle is the help she got from taking AIM products. Back in 2009, my mother was severely depressed, and for good reason. Three types of arthritis had crippled her hands and knees. She had to use a lift chair to get up and a walker to get around. After she was diagnosed with macular degeneration, we had a serious talk about the difficulties of caring for her if she went blind and couldn’t walk. I suggested she try the AIM products. Within six weeks, mom was up and about. So, 10 years later when my mother said, “I’d really like to get my picture taken on a motorcycle and let AIM know how well I’m doing,” that’s all it took for me to hit the road with her. On Labor Day, my husband, Don, took mom for a ride on his motorcycle while I led the way on mine. We rode down the street that she lived on as a child. It was a once-ina-lifetime experience for her. As the old saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. My mother and I love riding motorcycles, and we love the AIM products too!

The Skinny on AIMega Omega-3 and -6 essential fatty acids (EFAs) cannot be made by your body, which needs a consistent dietary intake to provide a long list of benefits, including skin health. AIMega delivers a balanced 2:1 ratio of plant-based omega-3 and -6 EFAs to help ensure you get enough of these skin essentials.

A regular intake will also help protect you from skin damage and aging caused by sun exposure. AIMega delivers 380 mg of omega-3 per capsule.

Skin Deep Your body is made up of around 37.2 trillion cells, an estimated 35 billion of which are skin cells. Fatty acids become structural components of cell membranes, so it is vital that your diet includes omega-3 and -6 to optimize cellular permeability and function. Both EFAs are integral to the health of the epidermal (outer) and dermal (inner) layers of your skin. Dryness and inflammation affect the appearance and aging of skin. Omega-3 helps to reduce both visual negatives. It also maintains the strength of the skin’s outer layer, guarding against pollutants and toxins.

8

Omega-6 is required for normal epidermal structure and function. However, it should come from a healthy source, such as the organic seed oils in AIMega: 190 mg per capsule. Supplementing with this essential fatty acid has been shown to alleviate inflammatory skin problems. Together, omega-3 and -6 contribute to the natural oil barrier of your skin, helping to keep it hydrated and youthful. So, you can think of AIMega as a cosmetic that works from the inside out. My Hip Replacement Shared by Petra Stevenson, AIM Director in Ashton, Ontario Being a very active person, owning an organic livestock farm and teaching fitness classes twice a week, I was not sure how to live with the fact that I needed a hip replacement. How could I deal with not being able to move around much? It was a scary thought. A few hours after surgery, I started applying Mag-nificence lotion and spray on my operated leg on the thigh and knee and around the edges of the heavy bandage. My leg was very swollen, and I could not move it a lot. Every few hours, I applied more of AIM’s fantastic Mag-nificence products, even throughout the night. These products helped me sleep better and feel more relaxed. I tripled my BarleyLife intake, doubled my Herbal Fiberblend mixed with fit ‘n fiber and took 8 FloraFood capsules separately from 6-12 PrepZymes capsules—also between meals—every day. This helped to offset the side effects of the strong pain medication and antibiotics and to detox faster.

Two weeks after the operation, I met with the surgeon. He told me that I was the only patient without any bruising on the entire leg. I could also walk with only one crutch. The same week, I met with my physiotherapist, who gave me the green light to put full weight on my leg and start walking without any crutches or other aids, which was a bit unusual to be doing so soon after surgery. My second meeting with the surgeon and physiotherapist was scheduled six weeks after the operation. I followed the suggested exercise instructions but had already started teaching my fitness classes by week five. I also continued taking my regular AIM products: the Garden Trio for all of the nutrients and for consistent, mild detoxing, Peak Endurance to recover from my very active days, CalciAIM to support my bone health, ProPeas for plant protein and Herbal Fiberblend, FloraFood and PrepZymes for my digestive health. I also added Frame Essentials to my daily program. Thanks to AIM and their great products, eight weeks after my hip replacement I have almost fully recovered.

contains all the beneficial nutrients found in cranberries. Each capsule delivers 500 mg of cranberry extract derived from the entire fruit, including the skin, flesh and seeds.

Cranberries contain flavonoids called proanthocyanidins (PACS) that stop infection-causing bacteria from sticking to the lining of the urinary tract, allowing these harmful microbes to be flushed out of the body. A 2019 study also shows that cranberry PACs interfere with the process that makes bacteria resistant to antibiotics. bit.ly/CranPACs

The diverse concentration of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients in cranberries supports urinary tract health.

+

The plus in CranVerry+ is the addition of three effective natural ingredients:

1

Resveratrol inhibits the formation of bacteria’s protective biofilm and growth of Candida.

2

Beta-glucanase disrupts Candida’s biofilm formation and delivers antifungal properties.

3

Mangosteen can kill Candida yeast and provide antibacterial activity.

Cranberries get their crimson red color from anthocyanins, another type of flavonoid.

10

Taking CranVerry+ helps improve urinary tract health.

With pockets of air inside, cranberries are able to float, allowing 90 percent of this fruit crop to be harvested on the surface of water.

2020 Celebration

To fully benefit from AIM Celebrations requires being there. The exciting moment of arrival at the location, opening night, illuminating presentations, team-building challenges and the Gala Event are to be experienced in person. Being at the AIM “Clear 2020 Vision” Celebration will give you the “aimed-for” perspective in Branson, Missouri. Take it from AIM Director Janet Breitkreutz in Canada and AIM Director Bheki Ngidi in South Africa.

Branson: You Have to Be There

“AIM Celebrations are a must to come to,” Janet enthused. “You get so energized and encouraged . . . the networking, just sharing with each other, learning from those that have done this for many years.” Attendees such as Janet are quick to note that AIM business leaders right up to Chairman’s Club Directors are there to help others succeed. “And it’s just so good to get together with your AIM Family and connect,” Janet added.

Bheki Ngidi turned the long flight from home to the USA into an AIM Celebration Vacation with touring time in New York and Orlando. “The first day of the AIM BIG Celebration started on a high note,” Bheki stated. “You could feel the excitement. After attending the Celebration, I am a different person; it has literally changed my life.” “There’s a big difference between watching these events on video and seeing them live,” Bheki emphasized, “so going to these events is worth the time and effort.”

Besides, there will be limited streaming of the AIM “Clear 2020 Vision” Celebration, so you simply have to be there! 11

for Fola t M

It’s a fact that folate is important for women before, during and after pregnancy. An increased intake of this B vitamin helps to prevent birth defects, fuel rapid growth and fortify breast milk. Recent research indicates that folate for fathers-to-be is important as well. A study published in 2019 examined the data collected on 108 couples who participated in infertility treatment from

e

2007 to 2017. Dur ing this period, 113 pregnancies occurred. The babies who had slightly longer gesta tion periods were fa thered by men who had increased their preconception folate intake to 400 mcg daily.1 This research suggests a couple of things: Preconception care should be a couple-based approach. Men whose diets include extra folate may father healthier babies.

Folate Facts

As the natural form of vitamin B9, folate is found in healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables. It’s required for the production of DNA and RNA, red and white blood cells and energy. A folate deficiency is often the result of an inadequate diet.

The recommended folate intake for pregnant women is 600 mcg daily. Food sources include fruits, legumes and dark green vegetables. Taking one of AIM’s green, whole-food powders in addition to their supplemental folate regimen will help pregnant women increase their intake of natural folate.

12

AIM Greens

A natural source of folate is present in whole-food powders such as BarleyLife, LeafGreens and BarleyLife Xtra. Supplementing with AIM greens is a healthy way for moms and dads to increase their folate intake and support the health of their children with concentrated plant nutrients.

Did You Know? Antibiotics seem to be fighting a losing battle against bacteria lately. Back in 1929, Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, leading the way to the use of antibiotics as treatment for a number of illnesses—often lifethreatening—caused by pathogenic bacteria. These days, many bacteria have evolved into antibiotic-resistant bugs that are winning the disease battle. Superbugs have taken hold in one of the least likely places: hospitals. Or maybe not so unlikely given the breeding ground. A number of antibiotic-related articles happened to be published in July 2019, The Economist took an imaginary look at our future if antibiotics were no longer effective. A Forbes article about Australian seagulls carrying superbugs made the situation an air battle that isn’t imaginary. July 2019 also held an announcement for the approval of a three-drug combination to treat complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), some of which are deadly due to antibiotic resistance. In the same month, the American Urological Association issued guidelines for treating recurrent UTIs. Part of that treatment includes cranberry products, given the growing medical literature showing that they could play a role in preventing recurrent UTIs. The AIM Companies™ knew this a long time ago, introducing CranVerry in 1995 and CranVerry+ in 2011.

Fiber: Negative Past and Positive Present Unlike vitamins, minerals, protein, fats and carbohydrates, before the 1970s fiber was considered to have no health benefits. While it’s true that fiber is a type of plant-derived carbohydrate that your stomach can’t digest, both insoluble and soluble fiber are actually of enormous value in keeping your body healthy. Most people associate fiber with laxation, but having regular bowel movements is just one of its many benefits. Fiber helps to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system and blood sugar, reduce inflammation, manage weight and the list goes on and on. Then there’s prebiotic fiber that good gut bacteria feed upon, helping them to proliferate and keep you healthy. These same microbes break down fiber into simple sugars, creating short-chain fatty acids that are absorbed by your cells. As an integral part of your microbiota, these useful bacteria have always taken nutritional advantage of fiber, once thought of as having no benefit for the human body. AIM offers two choices of fiber products to supplement your intake: Herbal Fiberblend and fit ‘n fiber.
