LIVING WELL OCTOBER 2021

Happy Harvesting 1

Corporate Message

A Time of Harvest It’s the heart of the harvest season for much of the Northern Hemisphere. This period of time is spent reaping nutritional riches from the earth, a culmination of the tremendously hard work of farmers who till, seed and cultivate soil to nurture plant-based food into the world. Some of the intensive labor of these workers of the land results in nutrientrich barley leaves, carrots and beets that become the juice powders in BarleyLife, Just Carrots and RediBeets. These three whole foods make up the Garden Trio, aptly named for its harvest of concentrated nutrition that is easily assimilated and utilized by the body. The same can be said about the crops of leafy greens and cocoa beans that enrich the diets of Members who enjoy the chocolaty zest of nutritional benefits from CoCoa LeafGreens powder. As a matter of fact, most of the plantbased ingredients in the AIM product lineup are reliant on the cycle of planting and harvesting, actions that are, in a way, analogous to the experience of being an AIM business builder.

Growing an AIM Business

Employing the opportunity of being independent distributors, Members who have chosen to plant the seeds of a homebased business to share the benefits of AIM nutrition can reap a harvest unlike any other entrepreneurial endeavor. 2

For example, becoming friends with people whose health has been improved after ordering and taking AIM products is a gain that goes above and beyond any financial rewards. At the same time, The AIM Companies™ compensates Member efforts to grow AIM businesses with monthly commissions, rewards and leadership bonuses along with cash prizes from contests.

The name of this year’s contest is aimed at growing new generations of Members who will become a part of growing the future for the AIM Family. The top achievers in the New Generations 2021 Cash Contest will receive generous monetary prizes for the challenging work of signing up active new AIM Wholesale Members and nurturing their promotions to Preferred Members, Group Builders and Directors from July 1 to December 31. For AIM business builders, the contest period is a time to grow, and there will be a time of harvest for contest achievers worldwide.

AIM Ingredients

Papaya Puts the Papain in PrepZymes If you have ever eaten papaya, you’ll recognize the orangey color, butter-like texture and slightly sweet taste of this tropical fruit. Christopher Columbus is said to have referred to it as “the fruit of the angels.” With its botanical roots likely on the Caribbean coast of Mesoamerica, papaya has become the third most cultivated tropical crop worldwide, wherever the weather allows Carica papaya to flourish fruitfully. In addition to its delectable taste, papaya is often eaten as an aid for digestion, making it an appropriate ingredient for PrepZymes.

Papaya’s Digestive Benefits

Papaya appears in the formulation of PrepZymes in two ways. Both the fruit and one of its most effective enzymes, papain, are individual ingredients. The PrepZymes’ product label shows Papain (Carica papaya) as one of the nine cultured enzymes as well as Papaya (Carica papaya) fruit. Together, they provide a double papaya presence for breaking down food.

Given that the fruit is enzymerich makes papaya a standalone ingredient that is digestively beneficial. The papain ingredient is sourced from the skin of unripe, green fruit that is still growing on papaya trees. Cuts are made into the peel so that the flow of whitish, saplike papain can be collected and dried. Before becoming a plant-based ingredient in PrepZymes, papain is assayed to determine its level of enzyme activity. This is a vital step in analyzing the effectiveness of this proteolytic enzyme that breaks down the protein in food intake. In combination with enzymes that go to work on breaking down the various components of food, papaya and papain add a tropical “punch” to the digestive action of PrepZymes. 3

Health Feature

Support from the Gut Every person is unique. It’s a scientific fact right down to DNA. Even identical twins can have slightly different genetic material, not to mention dissimilar personalities and tastes. Beyond science, you instinctively get the impression that each person you meet is a one-off, so it should come as no surprise that every individual has a unique gut microbiota. The ongoing research conducted on what goes on inside the gut gets to the bacterial heart of the matter. The diversity and population of the microorganisms inside of you—your microbiota—has a major impact on your health. And just like lifestyle choices can alter what genetics has in store, you can change the state of your microbiota. There are ways to populate and diversify the good bacteria that turn out to be microscopic health care providers, working to maintain your well-being without a thought (at least as far as we know for now). It’s likely not a selfless occupation for bacteria. More of an innate will to survive. If good bacteria do well, so do you. On the other hand, if there’s not sufficient population growth of beneficial bacteria and/or a lack of species diversity, your health can be negatively impacted.

4

NORMAL

Gut Caretaking

Even though people and their microbiotas are unique, the latest research shows that there is a fix that may work for all: healthy food choices. One of the largest and longest studies ever conducted on individuals showed that food choices can have a positive or negative effect on the health of your microbiota. From a group study that began in 2002, nearly 5,000 people between the ages of 25 and 74—53 percent being women—had their food consumption analyzed in relation to the state of their microbiotas. Both the overall species richness of a single individual and the differences of microbiotas between individuals were examined.

DYSBACTERIOSIS

One result indicated that the consumption of red and processed meat products led to dysbiosis: a reduction in microbial diversity and loss of beneficial bacteria.

your gut. For instance, Just Carrots and RediBeets make highly nutritious garden vegetables conveniently available in juice powders. Daily servings deliver wholesome beverages of great nutritive value. BarleyLife makes the concentrated nutrition found in young barley leaves fit for human consumption. To list and describe all of the known components and benefits of barley grass would require a lot more printed space than the pages available in this magazine.2

The overall results are not surprising to AIM Members: More diverse and compositionally distinct individual microbiota in the gut are associated with diets rich in plants, fiber and polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 and -6).1

AIM Supplemental Gut Support

First and foremost, AIM has promoted primarily plant-based food intake for good health from day one. What’s good for you is good for your gut. To take goodness to an even higher level, supplementing with AIM products intensifies your wholesome intake, filling in the gaps of any nutritional deficiency and saturating your body with what it needs to thrive. Plant-based powders from AIM increase levels of nutrients and phytonutrients that support whole-body health right down to

AIMega gives you plant-based omega-3 and -6, essential fatty acids that support your microbiota. Fit ’n Fiber not only increases your own fiber intake, it feeds your good bacteria with prebiotic fiber: essential nutrition for healthy microbiotas. To add to your population of good bacteria, FloraFood increases their presence with three billion live cells of three species of probiotics with each capsule. (For more FloraFood information, see page 8.) Healthy food choices are integral to having a gut microbiota profile that contributes to your well-being. AIM offers a wide selection of supplemental choices that work for you and your microbiota. References: 1 bit.ly/MicrobiotaFood 2 bit.ly/BarleyGrassBenefits 5

The Climb

Life took on a new perspective for AIM Director Char Pelfrey back in 2016, when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Like having a rug tugged viciously from beneath her feet and sending her crashing to the ground, Char found herself in a long, uphill climb to reclaim her health. Faced with such a serious condition, Char followed medical protocols through to completion, including multiple surgeries. Recuperation took time. She remembers feeling so weak that she could barely get out of a chair. “My stamina was gone,” Char related, “and even as I recovered from the operations, I still had no energy.” By adopting a primarily plant-based diet, she made an important lifestyle change that many health professionals recommend for improving and maintaining health. “I’m still amazed at what pure nutrition can do for a person’s mind and body,” Char exclaimed. What

6

followed was a connection to even more nutrition that works. Crossing paths with AIM Star Sapphire Director Cindy PonchotWatson was the catalyst to Char’s new lifestyle choice of wholesome, plant-based nutrient and phytonutrient intake. “I started taking a variety of AIM products, including the Garden Trio and CoCoa LeafGreens,” Char stated. “It’s as though my whole body has been revolutionized. It’s so incredible to me that my strength has returned, allowing me to do things that would have been too strenuous just a few years ago.”

Her words are no exaggeration. In the summers of 2020 and 2021, Char and her husband, Jerry, traveled from their home in Mason, Ohio, to hike over 200 miles in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and Utah through a challenging landscape of stunning scenery. “There we were, hiking ‘mountain’ miles daily instead of walking ‘mall’ miles,” Char stated. “I would get up the next morning and feel as good as I did the day before. This is something that people need to be encouraged about: you can reclaim your health, which is the name of My AIM Store.” Given their mountainous “peak” experiences, Char and Jerry help increase their energy levels with Peak Endurance. “Jerry mixes it with RediBeets for these hikes,” Char explained, “and because his job as a pastor often requires substantial reading as he studies, he takes Peak Endurance to stay refreshed throughout the day.” Char takes Peak Endurance for that extra burst of energy when a physically demanding day is ahead: biking, hiking, playing with grandchildren, etc. “Most of my everyday energy I attribute to Garden Trio, CoCoa LeafGreens and the other AIM supplements I take,” she explained. “I've been rebuilding myself from the inside out for quite a few years now and that's where my strength comes from.” At the age of 62, Char is an inspirational example of vibrant health that fittingly places her in the AIM Member Spotlight. “People often say to me, ‘Wow, you're energetic and strong, what’s your secret?’ I simply say exercise is important

and nutrition is critical for good health.” At the same time, Char meets people who question the need to supplement their nutritional intake. She reminds them that, “The typical Western diet does not support good health. Today’s food supply is usually grown in nutrient-depleted soils and processed foods provide little if any value. AIM supplements help to balance a nutritional deficiency.” More often than not, when Char gets people to take an honest look at their diets, they come to the realization that a lot of what they eat is actually detrimental to their health. The perspective that Char has on life as a result of her own health crisis is one of immense gratitude. “At one point, I didn't know if I had years, a year or even less” Char admitted. “This definitely changed me. I'm so thankful for every new day that I’m blessed to have with Jerry, our children and grandchildren.” “I mean, here I am, another year with the love of my life! We were back on the road together this summer, hiking another 100 miles and feeling fantastic. That’s pretty amazing,” Char exclaimed. “We get one shot at the life God has given us. Why would we do anything less than respect that gift by providing our bodies with the nutrition and exercise that we know sustain us?” Editor’s Note: All four of the Pelfrey’s daughters and their families take AIM products. Two of them live in East Africa and rely on AIM for the nutrition they otherwise could not get locally.

Testimonials should not be construed as representing results that everyone can achieve.

Your gastrointestinal tract is the home of roughly 100 trillion microorganisms. This monumental population includes fungi, protozoa and viruses, but the microbiota majority are bacteria. These dominant microorganisms are known to be beneficial for a number of reasons, including the ability to synthesize both essential and nonessential amino acids, produce a number of vitamins and perform bile biotransformation. FloraFood increases the presence of these healthy bacteria with a trio of probiotics: Lactobacillus gasseri, Bifidobacterium bifidum and Bifidobacterium longum. bit.ly/HundredTrillion

Lactobacillus gasseri isolated from infants proved to be one of two species that showed benefits for immune health while having the highest probiotic potential. bit.ly/Lgasseri

A baby’s gastrointestinal tract was once thought to be sterile before birth, and microbe colonization was believed to begin during the birthing process. A 2016 study suggests otherwise, concluding that colonization of the microbiota may start before birth. At the same time, for the first twelve months of life, a baby’s gut microbiota is compositionally simple yet integral for long-term health and shaping the adult microbiota. bit.ly/BabyMicrobiota

Bifidobacterium bifidum is a dominant

bacterial species in the gut microbiota of infants. Also present is Bifidobacterium longum. However, the aging process lowers the presence of both species. bit.ly/Bbifidum_longum

AIM Business Builders Take Note: A 2021 survey of more than 13,000 consumers in 16 countries revealed significantly increased use of probiotics. bit.ly/SurveyProbiotics

Nutrition to the Rescue

Shared by Barbara Swartzentruber, AIM Director in Coshocton, Ohio In 1997, I began to experience recurring migraine headaches. Consequently, about every two weeks I would be sick in bed for a day or two. Our friends Keith and Charlotte Thompson introduced us to the AIM Products, including the Garden Trio (BarleyLife, Just Carrots, RediBeets) and Herbal Fiberblend. They explained the benefits of building up our bodies with whole foods and cleansing our bodies with Herbal Fiberblend. I began using the AIM Garden Trio and Herbal Fiberblend. I also changed my diet by eating more fruit and fresh, green veggies. My meals consisted of salads, steamed vegetables and very little meat or processed foods. Within a year, I felt like a totally different person—no more migraine headaches. My energy level went up, and to this day, we are still using the AIM products. We are so grateful to AIM for providing great products that give our bodies nutrition that supports the immune system. Testimonials should not be construed as representing results that everyone can achieve.
