Editor’s Note Christmas is the best time of the year, it is the time when we celebrate, reunite, and feast with our family. It is also the time when the ordinary Filipino would feast with their family and friends, despite the struggle brought upon the pandemic and the current political and economic situation. I am delighted to present our third edition of the Puto Bumbong magazine, dedicated to all Filipino families who are struggling. Let this magazine be an inspiration to continue fighting amid the socio-economic challenges brought upon the criminal negligence of the current administration As we celebrate Christmas, let us remind ourselves that not all Filipinos are privileged enough. Many families will face Christmas without their loved ones, and so that should serve as our cue to make the necessary actions to change our society, where many children are unable to spend Christmas with their loved ones. After all, this magazine is simply a compilation of our creations that reflects the present society, but it has no power to make a change. Change should come from us, and we hope that this magazine will motivate you to make that change — to take the necessary action to change our society and to make a better future for the future generation. JHON MARCO MAGDANGAL Editor-in-Chief, The Angelite

Hatid

by ARLIN SALONGA

“Namamasko po!” Ang kadalasang susunod na mga kataga Sa tuwing may kakatok sa aming bakod. Ngunit naiiba ang Paskong ito. “Tao po! Delivery para kay—”

Mula pagkain hanggang

Nag-unahan ang mga may-ari ng bahay

Sa pinakabagong budol

Si Ate, si Kuya, pati si Nanay,

Gaya ng libro, sapatos, o damit

At ang nagkakape pang Tatay.

Na matagal nang gustong makamit,

Sumisilip maging ang kapitbahay.

Sagot nila ang bawat kapritso

Umulan, umaraw,

At pangangailangan mo.

O kahit pa yata umulan na ng nyebe,

Kaya sa Paskong ito,

Nagpapatuloy.

Subukang ibalik, magpasalamat

Silang dalawa, tatlo, o apat na gulong

Saluduhan ang kanilang serbisyo.

Ang nagsisilbing mga paragos.

“Salamat po!” sa kada “Tao po!”

Hatid ay mga bagay na nagpapasaya

“Ingat, Kuya!” pagkatapos makunan ng

Sa mga taong

litrato.

To the Same Ambiance of Bliss by BRIENNE DAVID

as the skies begin to darken, the luster of luminous lights envelop the streets, a nighttime show is at last streamed, trinkets of sorts adorned each abode the forthcoming footsteps faintly approach a chorus of reminiscent melodies echoes, voices spirited as it fills the brisk atmosphere just to be funnily dismissed after how lively, vibrant, and warm it is to recollect memories that are now lost, to yearn for a remainder of normalcy for little souls to grasp how wondrous these are little by little, a portion seems to be set ablaze illuminating yet a better present for this shall bring a genuine smile to the sprightly faces of the future a metamorphosis of conventional to present-day from tangible to something of not do not fret for we will see how the season will be a memoria of gaiety a fair period now swiftly aviates, plethora of varicolored palettes sit beneath touches of laughter radiate the bustling space the abundance of love and blissfulness blankets all it may seem quite different but ironically, quite also the same light-heartedness and fondness remain even amidst the reigning chaos of today

Endings Can Be So Scary story by HONEY DE JESUS art by ANGELA MANALOTO

10

Endings can be so Scary There is an ache in my heart, but I do not quite understand where it’s coming from. Is it some sort of longing? Yearning? Nostalgia, perhaps. After all, joyful memories come with the ironic pain of knowing that we can never go back to the past to exist in the same time and space with the same people. At best, we can only relive them through memory. I feel so empty, but at the same time, so overwhelmed. How can I be so empty and yet so overwhelmed? How can emptiness be so overwhelming?

13

Endings are scary but in order for trees to have plants again, they must wilt and go through winter. We must allow things to end. especially those that are unhealthy before they become invasive. We must bury them underneath new soil.

14

Through endings, I found hope. That friendship ended, so I could meet people who were truly trustworthy and would be there for me through thick and thin. That short-lived connection ended, simply because it was not meant for me, but that does not mean I am not grateful for it. That love I thought was forever did not last forever so I could be with the person I am with today. I could not write before this, but nothing will ever come out of me if I refuse to try. I know I will be able to write again.

17

Soon enough, it will be 2022. The ending of this year is like one big sunset. 2022, being the sunrise. The sun will keep rising and for as long as it can, For as long as it does, There is hope.

18

Now, with that hope that you have, It is time to continue your own story.

My acceptance of everything I couldn’t mend by HANNAH PINEDA

I was distracted striving to reclaim myself from you a month ago, I worked tirelessly to rid myself of all remnants of you. I remained in the past at the same moment since knowing you had been the pinnacle of my existence. Being anyone else’s had been one of the most prestigious titles I’d ever held, and I’d both lost you and my sense. The more I attempted to disengage, the more I found myself captivated by you, Neither of us remains the genuine person we used to be. My subconscious, however, still remembers you and I hope you knew. My heart knew you as its other half the moment we met, I have a lot to share to you about each moment I followed you that I wont forget. Carry me to the spot where you visit when you seek a moment to yourself. Take me everywhere you go and keep me where you left. I don’t wish to experience your quietness ever again All I want to do is hear your words as much of it as I can. From this day on, I’ll keep you much longer, Embrace you a little harder, Adore you even more stronger, And this is because I want you to be happier.

Remnants of Joy by MCGIORGE DAVID

As your world crumbles down, and uncertainties fill your cloudy days Your prowess unmatched by your burden as questions doom your sleepless nights, you wonder when this would end. Still keep on going as you reach the yuletide spring Let your soul wander through old habits Reminisce with God’s gifts. Relish your favorite colors with brothers and sisters. Feed your weary spirit with food for the soul. For once in a while, you are not alone. While everything has turned around, your golden circle is irreplaceable. Make love with the moment as the cold wind blows Come along, celebrate with your secrets blown Smack your lips with rice custard Kiss your troubles away as you feast with harmonic chimes. Let the afterglow remind you that if your world collapsed, your existence would not. Let the memories overcome your doubt After all, traditions are remnants of joy.
