Kolkata's iconic Globe Cinema reopened its doors on Maha Panchami (October 8th), rekindling a cherished cinematic legacy that has lain dormant for nearly two decades. Once a vibrant hub for film aficionados, the cinema now calls out to a new generation, screening three Bengali films alongside two recent all-India hits.
Satadeep Saha, Managing Director of SSR Cinemas - who has taken on the mantle of the Globe - announced the venue's transformation into a dual-screen theatre. With state-ofthe-art facilities and seating capacities of 239 and 197, respectively, the Globe promises an iconic cinematic experience.
The theatre's storied history dates back to its establishment by the British in 1867 as the Grand Opera House, a stage for an eclectic mix of British and Indian performances. Its cultural significance grew when Bijou Company acquired it in 1917, leading to its transformation into a cinema under the Madan Theatre banner in 1922. Renamed the Globe in 1925, it quickly solidified its place as one of Kolkata's most beloved cinemas.
However, the venue's fate took a downturn in mid-2000, resulting in a prolonged closure and a partial conversion into a shopping arcade. It was leased to another city-based owner for several years, but its legacy of screening cinematic classics remained undiminished. Over the decades, the Globe showcased cult Hollywood films such as Mackenna's Gold, Ben Hur, Jaws, Basic Instinct, and Star Wars, alongside the timeless works of Charlie Chaplin, including The Great Dictator and Limelight. The last blockbuster to grace its screen was Titanic, which captivated audiences for several months before the theatre's closure.
"We are excited to breathe new life into the Globe. It has always occupied a special place in the hearts of Kolkata's cinephiles. This Durga Puja, film lovers can relive their cherished memories by enjoying films at the Globe once more", Saha remarked, a sentiment echoed in the palpable enthusiasm surrounding the venue's revival.
The reopening event boasts a thrilling lineup of films, including Tekka, Bohurupi, and Shastri,
alongside reruns of recent hits like Tumbaad and Stree 2. With each screening, the Globe reclaims its status as a vital part of Kolkata's cultural landscape, inviting audiences to once again gather, celebrate, and lose themselves in the magic of cinema.

MUKTA A2 CAPS F&B AT BIG CINE EXPO
In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revitalising the cinema experience in India, Mukta A2 Cinemas has announced a cap of INR 99 on all food and beverage (F&B) items across its multiplexes. This announcement was made during a panel discussion at the Big Cine Expo 2024 in Mumbai by Satwik Lele, Chief Operating Officer of Mukta A2 Cinemas.
In his address, Lele articulated the intention behind this initiative, stating, "We believe that cinema is a universal form of entertainment and should be accessible to all. It's not just about offering films at a great price; it's about ensuring that the whole experience - from buying tickets to enjoying food and drinksis affordable and enjoyable." By introducing this pricing strategy, Mukta A2 Cinemas aims to alleviate one of the most significant deterrents for moviegoers: exorbitant F&B prices, a sentiment echoed by filmmaker Karan Johar, who highlighted that high food and ticket prices are barriers for audiences.
The move comes at a time when multiplex chains are grappling with a challenging post-Covid landscape, where footfalls remain significantly lower than pre-pandemic levels. According to Lele, the aim is to create an environment where moviewatching becomes a celebration,
free from financial burdens that often accompany a trip to the cinema. "By capping food prices at INR 99, we are giving back to our customers and creating an environment where movie-watching becomes a celebration without the added financial burden", he emphasised.
This initiative is particularly noteworthy given the broader context of declining audience numbers. Post-Covid, theatres have experienced a notable drop in attendance, with some markets reporting a 40 to 50 per cent decline. The rising costs associated with cinema outings have been cited as a critical factor discouraging audiences from visiting.
Lele's vision for Mukta A2 Cinemas is clear: to foster an environment that prioritises accessibility and enjoyment. "We hope this offer will encourage more people to visit the cinemas", he reiterated. As the industry braces for the festive season, theatre owners, including Mukta A2 Cinemas, are hopeful that upcoming films such as Jigra, Singham 3, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will draw audiences back into theatres. This initiative represents a strategic effort to revitalise cinema attendance for a wider audience in India.

VISAKHAPATNAM'S CINEMATIC LANDMARK TURNS 54
Jagadamba Theatre, an iconic name in Visakhapatnam, celebrated its 54th anniversary recently, marking more than five decades of being woven into the cultural tapestry of the city. For countless Vizagites, Jagadamba is a cherished part of their lives, a place where their passion for films was first ignited and where enduring memories with loved ones were made. Since its inception in 1970, it has become a symbol of the city's ever-evolving relationship with cinema.
The story of Jagadamba's founding is as unique as the theatre itself. Vegi Bhadrachalam, affectionately known as Rambabu, was a successful wholesale merchant dealing in onions and potatoes in the bustling markets of Vizag. His business success, however, sparked an ambition far beyond the realms of agriculture. During a visit to Madras (now Chennai), Rambabu was awestruck by the grandeur of Safire Theatre. This experience left a lasting impression on him and ignited a vision of bringing a similar cinematic marvel to his hometown. He set out to turn his dream into reality, and in 1970, Jagadamba Theatre opened its doors to the public. Named in honour of his
mother, the theatre was inaugurated by the then Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, P. Narsinga Rao, and immediately became a cultural landmark. With a capacity of 1,200 seats, a gleaming silver screen, and state-of-the-art projection equipment, it was a beacon of modernity in a city that had long been waiting for a cinema of such calibre.
From the outset, Jagadamba Theatre was not just about local fare; it was a window into the world of international cinema, introducing Visakhapatnam to Hollywood's finest offerings. The theatre's inaugural film, Where Eagles Dare, marked the beginning of a longstanding tradition of screening English-language blockbusters. Over the years, it became synonymous with iconic films like Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, Guns of Navarone, and the Indiana Jones series. These films captivated local audiences, establishing a deep connection between the people of Visakhapatnam and Hollywood's golden age. As time went on, Bollywood films also began to feature, with Sholay marking the first Indian film to grace its screens. The fusion of Hollywood epics with Bollywood classics created a cinematic melting pot, offering a unique experience for local film lovers.
Jagadamba's influence became a defining feature of its neighbourhood, a catalyst for transformation. The area surrounding the theatre, once known as Yellammathota Junction, was soon renamed Jagadamba Junction; reflecting the theatre's cultural impact.
Technologically, Jagadamba was always ahead of its time. It was one of the first cinemas in the city to boast of 70mm projection and stereophonic sound, technologies that were revolutionary at the time. These innovations ensured that Jagadamba could deliver the kind of cinematic experience that rivalled the world's best theatres. In fact, it was one of the few cinemas globally to meet the exacting standards of Todd A. O., the founder of the 70mm film format. Over the years, as technology advanced, the theatre continued to evolve. It became one of the first theatres in the region to introduce 4K projection and 3D capabilities, setting new standards in visual and audio excellence.
The ‘First Day First Show’ is a muchanticipated event, a tradition that has become a part of the city's cinematic culture. The air is thick with excitement, and the streets are lined with fans celebrating their favourite stars. The theatre itself becomes a festival of lights and colours, with confetti showers and fireworks
filling the air in celebration of a film's arrival. This fanfare is a testament to the special place Jagadamba holds in the hearts of the people of Visakhapatnam.
In the years since its opening, numerous modern cinemas have emerged across Visakhapatnam, offering sleek designs and the latest in technological advancements. Yet, despite the competition, Jagadamba Theatre has remained an institution, cherished by generations of moviegoers, with a special place in the memories of countless individuals.
BROADWAY CINEMAS BRINGS IMAX TO TIRUPPUR
Broadway Cinemas, a name synonymous with quality cinema experiences, is expanding its footprint into Tiruppur, promising to elevate the region's movie-viewing culture. The iconic Sangeetha Theatre, located on Union Mill Road, has been taken over by the cinema chain, which is set to transform it into a state-of-the-art multiplex. This ambitious development is expected to offer a premium cinematic experience, with five screens, including an IMAX laser screen.
Broadway Cinemas, known for its focus on cutting-edge technology and audience comfort, is no stranger to enhancing the theatre experience. The Tiruppur location will follow the chain's philosophy of marrying innovation with comfort, ensuring that patrons enjoy a complete cinema experience from the moment they step inside.
The addition of an IMAX laser screen is particularly exciting, offering sharp visuals and crystalclear audio that promise to redefine the way audiences in Tiruppur experience both international blockbusters and local hits. This move reflects the growing demand for top-tier cinemas in regional markets, where multiplexes have increasingly become a central part of social life, providing not just films, but an experience that attracts families, students, and movie buffs alike.
As Broadway Cinemas continues to expand, its vision of modernising the movie-watching experience across smaller cities and towns seems well on track, bringing a new level of sophistication to cinema culture in Tamil Nadu. The multiplex is expected to open soon, and for the residents of Tiruppur, it's an exciting new chapter in their cinematic journey.
THE PRICE OF CINEMA'S REVIVAL
In recent years, the once bustling cinema halls, teeming with eager audiences, have witnessed a worrying decline in footfalls. A significant factor behind this downturn is the steep rise in ticket prices, which have rendered the theatre-going experience increasingly inaccessible for a broader demographic. In response, cinema chains have introduced a series of Cinema Day-like promotions, offering drastically reduced ticket prices, sometimes as low as INR 99, in a bid to lure viewers back to the silver screen. These initiatives, though, have sparked a conversation about their long-term viability in revitalising the cinematic experience.
While these one-off events have been met with success - boosting audience numbers on special days like Cinema Day, which was celebrated most recently in September - they do not represent a sustainable solution for the cinema industry. The allure of affordable ticket prices may drive up attendance temporarily, but experts suggest that these spikes in footfalls are often short-lived. Films such as Article 370, Mr & Mrs Mahi, and Yudhra, for instance, saw a surge in viewership thanks to the reduced prices, attracting audiences who may not have otherwise opted for a cinema outing. However, the excitement generated by these promotions often fades once the pricing returns to normal, leaving behind a sense of fleeting interest.
Trade analysts caution that while Cinema Day offers an immediate uptick in revenue and audience numbers, it does little to alter the industry's underlying challenges. The initiative creates a temporary event around the cinema experience, but this cannot replace the broader structural issues - such as high ticket prices, competition from multiplexes, and the growing
dominance of streaming platformsthat have plagued theatres for years. "In the current scenario, nonevent films have struggled to open at the box office, with the share of big-ticket blockbusters continuing to rise", noted Ormax, a leading media consulting firm. "Cinema Day can create a brief surge in viewership, but it does not foster long-term audience engagement or build the kind of sustained growth that the industry desperately needs."
The idea of Cinema Day is rooted in nostalgia - reminiscent of the days when going to the movies was an affordable communal experience. It is about reviving the magic of the cinema hall, where viewers collectively lose themselves in the story unfolding on-screen.
Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Executive Officer of PVR INOX and President of the Multiplex Association of India, articulated the deeper value of these promotions, suggesting that they serve as a reminder of cinema's unique ability to bring people together in a shared emotional experience. "Cinema Day is not just about driving footfalls but about rekindling the magic of cinema itself", he said. "The collective energy in auditoriums and the emotional response that these experiences generate cannot be replicated in the solitude of home viewing."
However, the industry faces a delicate balancing act. Hosting Cinema Day too frequently could risk diluting its impact, undermining its ability to serve as a meaningful occasion that celebrates the joy of cinema. As Gianchandani pointed out, Cinema Day must remain an annual event to preserve its allure and avoid becoming just another marketing gimmick.
A CANVAS FOR THE SENSES
With a sharp focus on creating immersive, luxurious spaces, this brand has always held an upper hand in transforming every cinema experience into an art form. Every new development embodies their philosophy of pushing the boundaries of what a theatre can be, making each movie screening feel like a curated event. It's an invitation to engage with craftsmanship, cutting-edge technology and a promise of luxury that leaves a lasting impression...
In the city of looms and dyes, where history and modernity dance in tandem, PVR INOX offers a different kind of theatre - A Theatre for the Senses. Walking into the Alveal Fun Savvy Mall's multiplex feels like stepping into a scene carefully choreographed for effect - the transition from the daily to the cinematic is intentional, like a slow pan into a new world. It's the theatre before the theatre, a place where dynamic screens flash upcoming blockbusters while you step into the opulent lobby, greeted by vibrant hues and a sleek, modern aesthetic. The transition from the mall's buzz to the cinema's allure is
seamless, like unspooling a thread from one world to another. You're
not just at the movies - you're in the weave of something much bigger.
"We are thrilled to expand our presence in Coimbatore and Tamil Nadu with the launch of our third cinema in the city. Our commitment to providing a world-class moviegoing experience remains strong, and we are confident that this new cinema will enhance the entertainment options available to the people of Coimbatore. The cinema's modern design and state-of-the-art technology ensure that audiences can enjoy films in the most immersive and luxurious setting possible."
– Ajay Bijli, Managing Director, PVR INOX
ALVEAL FUN SAVVY MALL, COIMBATORE
Enter the grand concessionaire, which seems to have its own script. The bold, layered ceiling design and shimmering crystal accents feel less like a snack counter and more like a set piece in a high-budget drama. But here, your choices range from the classic (yes, popcorn is a must) to the more daring offerings, and it's all served with an almost cinematic flair. After all, what is a film without its supporting characters?
But the real show, of course, is inside the auditoriums. There's no single colour scheme here - it's a rainbow of moods. One theatre swathes you in the deep red of classic Hollywood glamour, another wraps you in violet like a scene out of a modern art film, while others hint at teal and gold: a palette of crafted extravagance. It's as if the screens themselves have choreographed their surroundings, inviting you to sit down and give in to the experience.
The star of the show, though, is the technology. 2K Next Gen projection in four auditoriums promises a level of clarity that might make you wonder if reality has been subtly edited for the better. And then there's the sound. Dolby 7.1?
Check. But for those who really
want to feel the narrative run through their veins, one auditorium goes even further with DTS X sound. It's not just surround sound; its sound that surrounds you in a way that makes you forget the real world for just a little while.
In a city that's no stranger to craft, from its world-renowned textiles to its equally rich cinematic history, this multiplex finds a way to marry both - craftsmanship and storytelling. It's an experience where you aren't just a spectator but a participant, where every corner has been considered, every sound has been sculpted, every image designed to leave a lingering
impression. As Ajay Bijli, Managing Director of PVR INOX, puts it, this new cinema is more than just a venue - it's ‘A Stage for the Imagination.’ His words are not just a corporate nod to the city but a recognition of Coimbatore's love affair with quality, whether that's in cotton or cinema.
Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director, PVR INOX, describes it as a place 'where film becomes an experience, and the audience is part of the story'. It's an ambitious statement but one that makes sense when you step inside. After all, cinema has always been about more than just the screen. It's about the flicker of light, the collective gasp, the shared thrill when a story hooks into you.
In a city where threads and textiles have long created beauty, this new multiplex feels like a canvas ready to be painted on. From the striking interiors to the cutting-edge technology, this is a multiplex that blends right in, as if it is home in a city that appreciates craftsmanship, in all its forms. Except that now, here's a new kind of loom in townone that spins not just textiles, but tales.
CP 67 MALL, MOHALI
Nestled within CP 67 Mall, this seven-screen venture in Mohali feels less like a multiplex and more like a quiet celebration of cinema's timeless allure. At the heart of this is the debut of PVR INOX's P[XL] format, a premium large-screen concept that practically pulls you into the story with 4K RGB laser precision. It's about catching hold of each flicker and shadow; it's about feeling like you could reach out and touch the world on screen.
As the first of its kind in Punjab, the P[XL] screen is a nod to what discerning audiences have come to expect. Combining this with Dolby Atmos and RealD 3D, the cinema promises something beyond passive viewing; where each whisper of dialogue and every cinematic sweep feels like a deliberate invitation into the narrative. Aside from the technical jargon, it is emotional depth amplified in an awe-inspiring setup, where a film's quiet moments resonate just as powerfully as its climaxes.
In the LUXE auditorium, luxury isn't just in the recliners (though they are undeniably plush). The room's warm, autumnal tones of gold and brown bathed in soft lighting make it feel like cinema itself is being revered. This isn't a space for hurried popcorn and soda runs, though one can indulge as they may wish. However, PVR INOX takes it a notch further; gourmet,
“It is extremely gratifying to introduce yet another advanced cinema concept for our patrons in Mohali, Punjab. While we look forward to extending our footprint across the country, we will continue to focus on smaller towns and cities to bring them to par with the highest global standards of out-of-home entertainment. We are confident that our latest venture will become a prime destination for all movie lovers in Mohali and Chandigarh while giving a boost to the local Punjabi film industry."
made-to-order meals are on the menu because, here, convenience doesn't eclipse quality.
'We are glad to open our second property in Mohali', said Ajay Bijli, Managing Director of PVR INOX. It's a clear signal that Mohali, along with Panchkula and Chandigarh, is being cemented as a key region in Northern India's evolving cinematic landscape. This is more than ticking off a location on a map - it's about establishing a cultural footprint in a place that appreciates cinema as both art and escape.
Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director, commented, "The introduction of P[XL] with laser projection allows audiences to experience a world of heightened realism." Yet, realism feels almost too small a word for what's on offer here. It is no longer about mimicking life; it is about elevating it. In a time when streaming platforms churn out content at breakneck speed, PVR INOX Mohali is nothing short of an aspirational leap, a promise that the communal act of watching a film isn't just alive - it's evolving.
MOVIEMAX:
THE ART OF CINEMA, PERFECTED
Cinema has always been more than just a two-hour escape; it's an experience, a ritual, a slice of magic wrapped up in a dark room with strangers. Find that magic alive and enchanting in Pune's newest multiplex in Mariplex Mall, Kalyani Nagar. In a city where cinema culture pulses with life, it's a slice of luxury served with a side of comfort, designed for the discerning moviegoer who wants more than just a film - they want a moment.
The new multiplex at Kalyani Nagar, Pune beckons: welcome to the age of luxury - grab your popcorn and your pixels! What makes MovieMax's newest so special? It's as if the usual annoyances of going to the movies have been ironed out, leaving only the pleasurable parts: the anticipation of the film, the ritual of picking snacks, and the subtle hum of excitement that fills the air. It's the attention to detail, the way the sleek digital kiosks at the entrance whisper 'No queues, No fuss', and the way even the box office glows in an inviting warmth that's hard to resist. Here, you're not just buying a ticket; you're signing up for an evening of indulgence.
Forget the blinding neon or impersonal grey you might find elsewhere. Here, the décor nods towards modern chic with an inviting burst of colour - orange, green, and gold blend harmoniously under thoughtfully curated lighting. The lobbies are less wait, more social playgrounds to grab a coffee or a bowl of wok-fried noodles before sinking into your seat. One
doesn't rush through here; instead, they glide, carried by the sense that every detail has been thought through, every design choice intentional.
If this wasn't enough, the concession stand is a gourmet affair. Think of it less as a snack bar and more of a miniature food festival. Popcorn and nachos, yesbut also pizzas and wok-inspired dishes, because why settle for the usual when you can pair your cinematic indulgence with a side of flair? It's as though the multiplex knows that your taste buds are as important as your movie taste.
Spacious seats? Check. Perfect sightlines? Check. But here's the
kicker - one can find odes to cinema's golden age decking the walls, with design showcasing iconic film imagery. It's like sitting in a time machine that moves between the past and the future, where retro glamour meets cutting-edge projection.
But if you're after a bit more decadence, there's the premium section, where MovieMax truly flexes its luxury credentials. Think of it as the first-class lounge of cinema - plusher seating, better views, and an atmosphere that whispers exclusivity without ever being too loud about it. And for those who like their Instagram moments, the interactive selfie corners scattered throughout the venue give a little nod to the age of digital self-celebration (what's a night at the movies without a bit of digital proof that you were there, living your best cinematic life?)
Ashish Kanakia, Chief Executive Officer of MovieMax Cinemas, summed it up best when he said, "Pune has a deep-rooted love for

A promise to bring the kind of cinema experience you once thought was reserved for swanky city centres to the heart of Pune. MovieMax is setting the standard, not just for luxury, but for accessibility.
For Pune, a city that already breathes cinema, MovieMax at Mariplex feels like a love letter to film lovers. With its expansion into Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, and its recent accolade as the Fastest Growing Cinema Chain of the Year at the IMAX Big Cine Awards 2024, MovieMax is setting a new standard, one that blends luxury, technology, and accessibility. This is a carefully crafted journey, designed to remind you why, in an age of streaming and endless content, the cinema still matters. Here's a multiplex that shows you the magic of what cinema can be. And in a world where that magic sometimes feels like it's slipping away, that's no small thing.
RAJHANS CINEMAS: THE FUTURE WRAPPED IN TRADITION
Enter a modern multiplex in Surat's lavish backdrop - one that is crafted for the city, and designed for the future. A theatre that resembles a gallery of art: perforated bronze panels to the grand central chandelier - all meld tradition with luxury, creating a space that blends the city's historic grandeur with the cutting-edge spectacle of surround sound. Here, patrons encounter a lineage of cinema that reaches back to the art form's earliest days, as the new multiplex ushers Ahmedabad into an unparalleled viewing experience.
As you arrive at the new Rajhans Cinemas multiplex in Ahmedabad's CBD Mall, it's immediately clear this is a symbol of Gujarat's - and India's - fast evolving relationship with cinema. Housed in a city that has long been the cradle of entrepreneurial vigour and cultural heritage, Rajhans Cinemas, Surat, has been a front-runner in bringing high-end, experiential film
viewing to audiences across the country. With 120 screens spanning 35 multiplexes, Rajhans is a paragon of the cinematic experience - and their new 7-screen masterpiece here in Ahmedabad is a testament to that commitment.
For a city with a storied history in textiles and trade, this multiplex is less theatre, more a cultural landmark; and the interior speaks
volumes about this mission. The grand lobby radiates a warmth that invites lingering. Golden lights softly illuminate perforated panels, and a striking dome structure draws the eye up to a chandeliera homage to the kind of old-world grandeur that once defined palatial architecture. Reflective floors and bronze mirrors give it an almost tactile weight, one that is reminiscent of Surat's palaces with stately corridors that stretch on, seeming endless, flanked by pillars etched with scenes of battle and dance, and rising like ancient sentinels.
For all its attention to historic detailing, its technology is equally
"This new multiplex stands as a testament to the success of our three existing multiplexes in Ahmedabad. Rajhans has evolved a long way from Gujarat's entrepreneurial

RADIANCE CINEMAS:
MADURAI’S MOVIE RENAISSANCE
The newly refurbished multiplex in Madurai stands as a beacon of modern cinema, blending architectural innovation with a focus on luxury and comfort. Spanning five diverse screens, this venue is a testament to advanced design and technology, featuring tailored acoustic solutions and high-end seating arrangements. It includes a spacious lobby, family-friendly facilities, and a variety of dining options, offering an immersive moviegoing experience that caters to both film aficionados and casual viewers.
Radiance Cinemas in Madurai stands as a testament to the evolution of cinema spaces in India, offering a blend of modernity and tradition. Originally composed of two standalone single-screen theatres, the property has been meticulously transformed into a contemporary multiplex boasting five screens. This transformation is
not merely architectural but also a reimagining of what a cinema experience can be. The lobby alone, sprawling across 15,000 square feet, welcomes visitors with a vibrant atmosphere that sets the tone for what lies ahead-a complete entertainment hub that includes a family entertainment centre, a restaurant, and a variety of games,
ensuring that there's something for everyone, regardless of age or interest.
The uniqueness of Radiance Cinemas is rooted in its commitment to delivering an unparalleled cinematic experience. This commitment is evident in the thoughtful design and technological innovation that pervades each of the five screens. Unlike many multiplexes that standardise their offerings, Radiance takes a more curated approach. Each screen is acoustically tailored, optimising sound quality to suit the specific characteristics of the films being shown. This attention to auditory detail is further enhanced by the use of different audio systems across the screens, sourced from various top-tier brands, allowing for a rich diversity in soundscapes that elevates the viewing experience to new heights.
But it's not just the technology that sets Radiance Cinemas apart; it's the
entire design philosophy. The cinema's seating arrangements are a case in point. The two-floor gallery offers a dynamic viewing experience, with the Grande screen featuring a nearly two-floor ramp that adds a distinctive architectural flair. The curved seating ensures that every guest has an optimal view, regardless of where they are seated, turning every seat in the house into a prime location. This thoughtful design extends beyond the screens to the overall visitor experience. For example, parking-a common pain point at many entertainment venues-is a breeze here, with ample space to accommodate up to 150 cars and 1,000 two-wheelers. This level of convenience ensures that guests can focus on their cinematic experience without worrying about the logistics.
Adding to the convenience is an innovative service where patrons can put a missed call to receive an SMS with the day's schedule. This simple yet effective feature allows moviegoers to stay informed and plan their visit with ease, embodying the cinema's focus on enhancing the overall customer experience.
Behind this state-of-the-art cinema is PKM Rajangam, the sole
proprietor, whose vision has guided the transformation of Radiance Cinemas into a premier destination for entertainment in Madurai. The journey from singlescreen theatres to a modern multiplex was not without its challenges, but it was driven by a clear understanding of the changing landscape of cinema. Where once a trip to the movies was a straightforward affair, today it is an experience, particularly for families. The renovation of the cinema into a family entertainment centre reflects this shift, offering a world-class experience that caters to a diverse audience.
One of the most striking aspects of Radiance Cinemas is its commitment to creating a holistic entertainment environment. The Team at Qube Cinema said, “We are glad to see Radiance Cinema keep the focus on making cinema-going an experience for families and they have reflected that throughout their property, making it a go-to destination for people of all age groups. Audiences in Madurai have been eagerly anticipating an unparalleled movie-watching experience, and with our advanced EPIQ Premium Large Format screen, we are set to fulfill that promise. With Radiance Cinema we are expanding our footprint of EPIQ
screens across South India and are thrilled to bring this state-of-the-art experience to Madurai.”
Families with young children, for instance, can take advantage of a dedicated baby feeding room, while kids can stay occupied in a gaming area designed to keep them entertained. The dining options are equally impressive, with a variety of choices that cater to different tastes. The cinema features an exclusive vegetarian café, a separate non-vegetarian café, and an ice cream café showcasing Cold Stone creations. Additionally, there are sandwich and pizza counters, as well as a chaat counter, ensuring that every culinary preference is met. With 1,100 seats in total, selfservice kiosks, and six café counters, Radiance Cinemas offers more than just a movie-it offers a complete outing experience.
The aesthetic features of Radiance Cinemas are equally noteworthy. Each screen has been designed to offer a distinct viewing experience, tailored to different types of films. The EPIQ screen, for example, is a visual feast, equipped with cuttingedge projection technology and mesmerising lighting that draws
audiences into the cinematic world. Verdor, on the other hand, is perfect for films that celebrate nature, with a design inspired by lush green landscapes that transport viewers into scenic wonders. For those who appreciate the artistic side of cinema, Arte showcases thought-
provoking and visually stunning films, creating an intimate atmosphere for cinephiles. Grande lives up to its name by offering a larger-than-life experience, with a massive screen and powerful audio that make it the go-to choice for epic blockbusters. Meanwhile, Carino offers a cosy setting, ideal for romantic comedies and familyfriendly films, creating a warm and inviting environment that is perfect for creating cherished memories.
The technical aspects of Radiance Cinemas are equally impressive, with each screen equipped with advanced technology
that enhances the viewing experience. Barco RGB Laser projection systems are utilised across all five screens, known for their superior image quality and brightness. These projectors deliver stunningly vivid and sharp images, with true-to-life colours and deep contrast that bring films to life in a way that few other cinemas can match. Notably, one of the screens features KRIX speakers, marking it as only the second installation of this brand in India. These speakers are seamlessly integrated into the cinema's acoustics, delivering crystal-clear sound with precise audio localisation that fully immerses viewers in the film's audio environment.
The transformation of Radiance Cinemas from standalone theatres to a modern multiplex was not without its challenges. One of the primary architectural challenges was creating a cavity wall structure, a complex construction task that was necessary to accommodate the new design elements while ensuring the building's structural integrity. Dividing the existing space into five separate screens also required meticulous planning and execution, as the original design was not intended for a multiplex setup. The design process also involved careful consideration of acoustics, with the team implementing advanced soundproofing techniques to prevent sound from echoing or bleeding between screens. Despite these challenges, the project was completed in line with government guidelines and regulations, resulting in a cinema that not only meets but exceeds modern standards.
Radiance Cinemas also stands out for its in-house concessions, offering a variety of popcorn flavours at no additional cost, as well as branded snacks that cater to
a wide range of tastes. This attention to detail extends to every aspect of the cinema, from the technical features to the overall customer experience, making it a standout destination in Madurai's entertainment landscape.
The cinema market in this location is diverse, with Radiance Cinemas catering to a multilingual audience that enjoys a variety of film genres.
The cinema's ability to screen films in multiple languages ensures that it can attract a wide range of moviegoers, from local language enthusiasts to those who prefer international content. This flexibility, combined with the cinema's focus on providing a comprehensive entertainment experience, makes Radiance Cinemas a key player in the region's entertainment industry.

MOVIECLICKS:
THE SMART WAY TO CINEMA
When a leading theatre chain asked for a system that could elevate their box office, this brand answered with a solution that would redefine the experience of cinema itself. With systems that adapt and flow through the cinema, from digital signage to intuitive seating, it's more than software - it's an experience that redefines cinema management as a craft, built to captivate from behind the scenes.
It all began in Kerala in 2010 - a quiet revolution in cinema ticketing that few could have foreseen growing into a transformative force within the industry. MovieClicks, once a modest venture, soon found itself faced with a thrilling challenge: a renowned theatre chain requested a software that could not merely sell tickets but sculpt an entire experience. Rising to the occasion, the team crafted a system that has since redefined cinema management across more than 20 locations and 100 screens, with each screen serving as a small part of a grander vision for the future.
At its heart, MovieClicks is an intricate machine, where art meets precision. It is a system designed with a deep love for cinemas; a tool built to elevate not only the box

The platform, built on a highly customisable framework, offers cinema managers the power to oversee every operation - from ticket sales and customer engagement to digital signage and self-service kiosks. film. Now, a simple QR code awaits on each premium seat; with a quick scan, a menu appears, orders are placed, and payment flows through UPI. This is theatre as it was always meant to be - a seamless extension of the experience, with the audience at its heart. A discreet Kitchen Order Ticket (KOT) device springs to life in the concessions area, alerting staff with a sound as each order arrives, transforming an intermission snack into a finely choreographed service.
The elegance of this system lies in its meticulous attention to detail. Every concession order integrates with the backend inventory system, adjusting stock in real time without requiring extra input from cinema staff. As sales happen, inventory updates, and efficiency reigns - a reminder that great technology often shines brightest when it is invisible. For theatres that pride themselves on smooth operations, this feature becomes more than a convenience; it is an investment in the theatre's reputation for excellence.
