A message from the Head of School Dear Friends of Baldwin, The 2020–21 school year was like no other. Our lives changed as social distancing, mask wearing and temperature checks became a regular part of our daily routine alongside remote work and, occasionally, virtual school. Yet, in true Baldwin spirit, our community of innovative thinkers and collaborative problem solvers found ways to ensure our students, faculty, staff and families did not miss a beat. We learned new ways to teach, learn, communicate and gather; we tackled each new challenge with creativity, flexibility and a mission-first attitude; and we found new ways to reaffirm the bonds of sisterhood and community that make Baldwin so special. Throughout, the generosity of our parents, alumnae and friends ensured we could provide the best possible year for our Bears. Thank you for your extraordinary support of Baldwin during what was a truly extraordinary year! I am proud to share this 2020-21 Report of Gifts and so very thankful that, during these uncertain times, more than 970 donors continued to make Baldwin a philanthropic priority and helped us raise over $2 million for The Baldwin Fund. Additionally, nearly $7 million was contributed in support of our many endowment funds. These gifts helped us to provide all of our Bears a safe learning environment and support the enriching academic experiences and extra-curricular activities that make a lasting impact on today’s Baldwin girls. This past year, we came together to overcome our challenges and adapt to our ever-changing environment. You each made that possible. In the process, you also inspired the entire Baldwin community and, especially, the future leaders – and future philanthropists – now wearing Blue and Gray. With gratitude,

Highlights Diversity, Equity and Inclusion As part of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) work, Baldwin remains committed to fostering and modeling respectful engagement, open dialogue and thoughtful programming around diversity and equity. We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish over the past year, some of which was made possible by the generosity of our donors to the DEI Fund.

DEI Program Highlights Students Many special assemblies and student programs took place, from a visit from a Holocaust survivor for our Upper and Middle School students to an authentic Indian dance and artistic performance from Ajna Dance Company for our Lower School students; the scope of building Bridges, the Upper School’s annual diversity conference, was expanded; and our Middle Schoolers had increased opportunities to attend local, regional and national diversity conferences.
Parents Baldwin parents participated in Courageous Conversations: By Parents for Parents, sponsored by The Parents of Black Students Association. This three-part series focused on practicing anti-racism parenting by learning how to interrupt and disrupt racism in everyday conversations.
Alumnae The Baldwin Heritage Network, Alumnae Association Executive Board and The National Board of Advisors partnered on two engaging virtual events: a book talk on How to be Less Stupid about Race: On Racism, White Supremacy and the Racial Divide, written by Dr. Crystal Fleming '00 and a documentary film screening and discussion on “I’m Not Racist…. Am I?”
Faculty/Staff Our faculty and staff partnered with Lion’s Story, a racial literacy program based on the work of Dr. Howard Stevenson, on a year-long racial literacy journey. Our Board of Trustees also participated in Lion's Story workshops.
2021-22 Campus Updates We are excited about many campus upgrades and enhancements, including: An interdisciplinary hub - Thanks to a generous lead gift from alumna Sally Warehime Yelland ’54, the School broke ground on our latest capital project, The Innovation Center. The former pool building will be reimagined as a space for students in every grade to engage in hands-on, collaborative, interdisciplinary work. The project is slated to be completed in early 2022.
Relocating the Middle School - Baldwin continued its investment in campus by transforming the second floor of The Residence into spacious classrooms and collaborative spaces specifically designed for our Middle School program. What began as a temporary pandemic-motivated adaptation has become a fresh new space for our Middle Schoolers to permanently call their own!
Preserving campus history - The Cherry Trees are a defining landmark of the Baldwin campus. First arriving on the grounds more than 80 years ago, they have been a beautiful sign of spring and renewal for Baldwin girls over the ages. To ensure their beauty can be enjoyed for many years to come, an endowment has been established to preserve the trees. 2020-2021 REPORT OF GIFTS | 7
Highlights From Our Baldwin Bears DREAM Lab® Extends Beyond the Baldwin Walls Grade 3 DREAM Lab students celebrated Halloween by creating monsters and modeling them to scale in 3D using TinkerCAD. Students wrote a descriptive paragraph about their monster explaining the scale and shape of their monster's features relative to the size and shape of their monster's body. Then, they swapped descriptive paragraphs with a classmate, and drew and modeled their "swap monster" using only the description. Additionally, a call for volunteers was posted on social media, which engaged alumnae, parents, grandparents and friends in the fun of drawing their interpretation of the monsters. Drawings were sent from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Vermont, Massachusetts, Colorado and California, as well as some from Greece and Croatia! The volunteer artists’ ages ranged from 4 – 80 years old! What a beautiful way to stay connected to our broader Baldwin community!
Blasting Off with Rockets As part of the Interdisciplinary Institute, Middle School math and science students learned about the development of rockets and the barriers women have overcome to join the Space Race. They explored the theory behind human and object motion and then developed their engineering and design skills by creating and launching their own rockets. We have a few future astronauts in our midst!
First-ever Virtual Moot Court Tournament When the annual Princeton Moot Court Tournament was cancelled, Baldwin’s Club founder Samantha Eill '21 took matters into her own hands by planning Baldwin’s first-ever virtual Moot Court Tournament. The case they chose to debate, Baxter v. Bracey, raised relevant questions about the use of force by police and qualified immunity. Given the virtual platform, the organizers were able to engage members of the broader Baldwin community, including faculty, alumnae, parents and grandparents to serve as the competition's judges. Twelve local teams competed including Baldwin sophomores, juniors and seniors. Baldwin’s team emerged victorious taking home the coveted Golden Cow Trophy.
Notable Achievements • 14 Student-Athletes celebrated at college signing ceremony • 18 seniors honored by National Merit Program • The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) recognized four Upper School students for their computing-related achievements and interests • Baldwin’s literary magazine, The Roman Candle, received a Gold Medal from Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) • Baldwin Softball won first ever Inter-Ac Tournament 8 | THE BALDWIN SCHOOL
Signature Advancement Events Alex Wake '05 Run/Walk In Spring 2021, the Alex Wake '05 Memorial 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk was held virtually. Each year, this event celebrates the life of Alex Wake ’05 and raises awareness for domestic violence. Hosting it virtually allowed parents, friends and alumnae from across the country to participate in their location of choice. Proceeds from the Run/Walk support an endowed scholarship in Alex’s name. A special thanks to our event sponsors for their steadfast and generous support.
True Blue for Baldwin Day Baldwin was proud to reignite True Blue for Baldwin with great success. True Blue, our 24-hour giving day, is an opportunity for the entire Baldwin community to come together to show their combined support for our mission and our students. Over 400 parents, alumnae, faculty, staff and friends raised more than $118,000! We are so grateful for your kind generosity and support.

MasterSeries@TheBaldwinSchool The Baldwin School Parents' Association understands the impact the annual Community Auction and Dinner has on the School’s fundraising efforts and was determined to make it happen – even during a global pandemic! Their creativity – and eagerness to connect – resulted in a virtual four-event series, each with a unique and festive theme. Attendees enjoyed Cocktails and Conversations with best-selling author Jennifer Weiner (P ’21); a History Show & Tell hosted by Karen Pearlman Raab and Nathan Raab (P ’30), principals at The Raab Collection and preeminent American dealers in rare documents; a Wine Tasting hosted by Brian Freedman (P ’29), a wine, spirits, travel and food writer, restaurant and beverage consultant and wine educator; and In the Kitchen, where they enjoyed Chef Tyler Akin of Le Cavalier at Green Room in Hotel Dupont for a virtual cooking demonstration. The MasterSeries raised a total of $133,000 for The Baldwin Fund.
