MISSION STATEMENT The Baldwin School, an independent college preparatory school, develops talented girls into confident young women with vision, global understanding and the competency to make significant and enduring contributions to the world. The School nurtures our students’ passion for intellectual rigor in academics, creativity in the arts and competition in athletics, forming women capable of leading their generation while living balanced lives.

A message from the

HEAD of SCHOOL Dear Baldwin community, I’m excited to share our 2021-22 State of the School report, which provides updates from campus as well as information about our enrollment, fundraising, financial operations and more. It is just a snapshot of how we continue to ensure that The Baldwin School is leading the way in girls’ education, locally and nationally. Since our founding in 1888, Baldwin has remained steadfastly committed to our mission of supporting generations of curious, creative, compassionate global citizens on their path of self-discovery and impact. As part of this work, I was excited to announce this fall the public phase of The Future Is Baldwin campaign, which calls for $25 million in strategic investments to help our School and our Bears realize a future that matches our Baldwin pride. Our 2020-21 financial results likewise reflect strong fundraising efforts combined with the strategic management and operational planning that create our healthy financial picture – all so we can bring Baldwin’s mission to life and provide our students what they need most, each and every day. While just at our midway point for the 2021-22 school year, we have already enjoyed many standout moments like our lively Homecoming games, the alwaysfun Halloween parade, our beloved Thanksgiving assembly, festive winter assemblies and other grade-specific special events. We also welcomed our Bears back to the stage for multiple musical performances and enjoyed seeing parents on campus for classroom activities. We look forward to all the traditions and celebrations the spring holds, including our BSPA Block Party – the School’s largest annual parent-led fundraiser and community-building event. Our students and faculty continue to reflect the best of Baldwin, in and out of class, even as Baldwin’s parents, alums and wider community generously support all that we do. Thank you for such unwavering commitment to our mission and our girls. I look forward to seeing all we accomplish together during the rest of the school year. Go Bears!

CAMPUS RENOVATIONS We are always adapting to what our programs and students need most and are excited to unveil major renovations throughout campus this school year. In 202122, we are thrilled to introduce a new Middle School space, an additional floor for our Early Childhood Center and our forthcoming new hub for interdisciplinary and collaborative work, which we are calling the Innovation Center. After the pandemic inspired us to relocate our Middle School Bears to the second floor of the Residence, we quickly realized the benefit of a dedicated space designed specifically for the academic and emotional growth of Middle Schoolers and to reimagining how we use the beautiful historic landmark that is our Residence. Over the summer, major construction work was undertaken to knock down walls, paint, install new wiring and hardware, and more. The Residence second floor now has spacious classrooms, collaborative student spaces, administrative and student support offices, a dedicated wellness center and all of the technology and tools our Middle School students, teachers and program needs – and it is filled with the daily laughter and learning of our girls.

THE BALDWIN SCHOOL

Our youngest Bears are also in new spaces in the Residence this year. With an expanding Pre-K and Kindergarten program, our Early Childhood Center (ECC) now spans two floors and includes larger classrooms, dedicated spaces for our ECC specials such as a new library, science classroom and DREAM Lab, and additional rooms for our after-school program. Also upgraded over the summer, these new ECC spaces reflect the warmth, joy and tailored programming that are hallmarks of our Pre-K and Kindergarten grades. After decades of use, Baldwin’s “old pool” has sat dormant since the opening of our state-of-the-art Athletic Center in 2008. Later this school year, we will re-open its doors to reveal a transformed space and our new Innovation Center - an interdisciplinary hub that will give our students additional room to explore, collaborate and invent on a daily basis. This building is dedicated to the tangible, hands-on work of interdisciplinary learning and will provide students across grades and classes new opportunities to focus on problem-solving, creativity, teamwork and adaptability.

DEVELOPMENT Thanks to the continued generous support of our parents, alums, Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and a long list of friends of Baldwin, the 2020-21 school year was another exceptional year for the critical fundraising that sustains our program. We raised over $2 million for The Baldwin Fund and more than $9 million in gifts and pledges for our endowment. Your generosity helped ensure we can provide the very best programming and support for our girls, now and in the future. Thank you!

FINANCES The 2020-21 school year was, once again, a strong year for the School financially and operationally. With the guidance of our dedicated Board of Trustees, we continue to manage our revenue and expenses expertly. This allowed us to effectively and strategically navigate the pandemic while still introducing exciting new programs for our students, continuing to support our faculty and staff with competitive salary and benefit packages, and completing impactful capital projects around campus. Our tuition rates for the 2022-23 school year underscore this strong financial standing and the Board of Trustees’ dedicated efforts to balance our mission of educational excellence with
