Academic About Academic Camps Academic

reate the perfect balance of academics and fun for your child by selecting a morning academic camp and adding an afternoon art, swimming or sports camp. Our popular academic camps are a great way to review, maintain and enhance skills introduced in the previous school year. At Summer at Barstow you can select our six-week morning academic camp for your child in grades 1–5 or our four-week morning camp for your child in grades 6–8. We offer three levels of academic camps for grades 1-4 and two levels of academic camps for grades 5-8.

2013 Camp Catalog

Readiness camp is designed to provide extra help and reinforce crucial skills to prepare your child for the grade level they will enter in the fall. The next level, Skill Sharpener, is a great choice if your child needs to review and maintain skills learned during the previous school year. Finally, the YOUniversity camp is designed to offer your child a “sneak peek” into the next grade level and provide enrichment. The curricular emphasis in each of these camps focuses on individual skill development and learning strategies in language arts and math. Each camp maintains a low camper-to-staff ratio. Kindi Camp is an exciting adventure for campers entering Kindergarten. The environment of Kindi Camp provides opportunities for social and individual growth. Join Barstow’s athletic trainer to learn sport-specific fundamentals to help prevent ACL injuries. There will be a strong emphasis on the PEP Program (Prevent injury, Enhance Performance), known to reduce the amount of ACL injuries in sports. Exercises and drills will include: squat mechanics, jumping (acceleration) and landing (deceleration) mechanics, single-leg strength progressions and core stabilization.
