Summer at Barstow

Academic About Academic Camps Academic

Create the perfect balance of academics and fun for your child by selecting a morning academic camp and adding an afternoon art, swimming or sports camp. Our popular academic camps are great way to review, maintain and enhance skills introduced in the previous school year. At Summer at Barstow you can select our six-week morning camp for your child in grades 1–6 or our four-week morning camp for your child in grades 7 and 8. We offer three levels of academic camps for grades 1–4 and two levels of academic camps for grades 5–8.

Readiness camp is designed to provide extra help and reinforce crucial skills to prepare your child for the grade level they are entering in the fall. The next level, Skill Sharpener, is a great choice if your child needs to review and maintain skills learned during the previous school year. Finally, the YOUniversity camp is designed to offer your child a “sneak peak” into the next grade level and provide enrichment.

The curricular emphasis in each of these camps is to focus on individual skill development and learning strategies in language arts and math. Each camp maintains a low camper-to-staff ratio. The camp will have a teacher as well as a teaching assistant allowing campers to advance at their own pace. Open communication between parents and teachers is encouraged. Progress updates will be available during the third and sixth week of camp for grades 1–6 and at the fourth week for grades 7 and 8.

Skill Sharpener is designed to review concepts from the previous school year while helping you retain the necessary skills for the coming year. You will spend this week diving into the world of American Girl preparing yourself, and your doll, for a special theme. Mini Camp

Kindi Camp is an exciting adventure for campers entering Kindergarten. The environment of Kindi Camp provides opportunities for social and individual growth. Campers will learn important transitioning skills they will need for Kindergarten through activities including a variety of science experiments, math lessons, art projects, language arts exercises, music instruction, water play and more. Weekly themes will drive hands-on activities and special guests.

Mini Camp is an engaging and active atmosphere for three and four year old campers. Join us for a new theme each week for half or full days! Campers will enjoy a balance of organized and self-directed activities including art projects, stories, songs, water play and quiet/rest time. Weekly field trip experiences come to campus including visits from firefighters, farm animals, balloon artists, Theater for Young America and more.

Extended Care Extended Care Service Extended Care is offered for campers in pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade. Our program is staffed by Summer at Barstow staff and teaching assistants. Campers participate in a variety of activities including arts and crafts, outdoor activities, sports, board games and Lego. Campers are age-appropriately divided in two groups. AM Care is offered from 7:15–9:00 am daily. Campers are escorted by staff to their camp meeting place daily. PM Care is offered from 3:30–6:00 pm daily. In case you are unexpectedly late or delayed in picking up your children, they are escorted by staff to Extended Care at 3:45 p.m.
