Digital Technologies in the Classroom Kathy Holmes
“This is the 21st century!” Perhaps it’s not always the best line to use—the walls of conservatives go up and the pitchforks of liberals come out and we all get ready to go to war. Well, don’t bring out the whetstones and the mortar just
universities have adopted this option. In the blue corner, we have classes like Themes of the Bible and Old Testament, where computers and use of the internet are prohibited. These are two very different approaches to teaching—both valid, both effective. But let’s get down to the nitty-gritty here, because let’s be honest—none of us are interested in what the two sides have in common. We want to talk about the pros and cons of each. If you don’t, well, humour me. Let’s start with the paper-only method. Pros: 1) There is something about writing information down by hand that makes it easier to recall later. I think it has something to do with muscle memory, or magic. 2) Having a physical copy of what you are reading is a) easier to flip through to find what you yet, because this time we’re not talking about need, and b) way easier on your eyes than a computer screen. morals or societal norms. This time, we’re talking about technology and how we use it—specifically, 3) One can still read/do their work if there is a storm and the power goes out. The only paper anything we get are additional deadlines—wohoo! Cons: 1) Easy to get distracted when using computers in class. 2) If you leave an assignment to the last readings/activities in-class. In fact, many other minute and the power goes out, well, that’s just too bad. It will be late. 3) It’s hard on the eyes to stare at a screen all the time. But most importantly is this final point. As nice as it is to have a physical copy of whatever you’re reading/working on, it’s no secret that we are experiencing a decline in trees. A decline in trees means a decline in oxygen. Charger Athletics Nathaniel Burlock
The Chargers athletic teams prove to show excellence by making the ACAA playoffs this season. Throughout the regular season they have displayed qualities of true sportsmanship while still having a raw competitive nature on the court. The lady Chargers deserve a special shout out for the improvement that has been shown this season; unfortunately they were on the losing end of a well fought game against the MTA Mounties with the final score being 52-72. The Chargers season is done for this year and they will be looking forward to the 2015-2016 season with the rest of us. After beating the Saint John Seawolves 69-61 the boys have been defeated in overtime by the Holland College Hurricanes having a final score of 91-96. The Chargers have several returning students for next year and are optimistic about the 2015-2016 season. On a separate note, the indoor boys’ and girls' soccer teams are getting ready for the fast approaching indoor soccer league playoffs. The girls’ soccer team is receiving special training form David Parker and Fredd Agbozo in hopes to transfer these skills to the 2015 outdoor soccer season.

Life in Colburne House Danielle Reimer
Everything is weirdly quiet on March Break. For the first few days, there were maybe fifteen people on campus. All except three or four of the tables in the cafeteria were completely empty. There was no line up for meal times. I had the pod bathroom entirely to myself. Any sign of another human is cause for surprise. The school has the feel of an old-timey ghost town and all that’s missing is the fuzzy piano music and a tumbleweed or two.
At the time I write this a few more people are slowly starting to trickle back into dorms. The sudden influx on the weekend is going to be a bit of a shock. Before the roommate gets back, I should probably also dismantle the blanket nest I constructed on the floor and have been sleeping in for the last week and instead actually make my bed like a responsible adult. There’s going to be a lot of people coming back fairly soon, which will be quite terrifying and a bit of an adjustment from the quiet I’ve become quite fond of. This also means, however, that friends will be returning and my people will all be in one place again. Productivity will likely decrease dramatically but that’s to be expected. Oh, and as a side note, my little pet project (for lack of a better term) of getting open dorm hours lengthened actually happened. Open dorm starts at two every day now and goes until ten. This makes me very, very happy. Especially since it means I can steal friends’ blankets for my nest at a much earlier time in the day.
Soma Church
Nick Devine
Soma Church is a unique student-run ministry here at Crandall University. It provides students and faculty with the opportunity to use the gifts that God has given them in a church-like setting. The emphasis of this church is to come together as a one body – soma is the Greek word for body - in Christ to worship God. This is an exciting ministry opportunity built toward giving future pastors the opportunity to speak, singers the opportunity to sing, and everyone the opportunity to pray and encourage each other. Romans 12 is the foundational passage that Soma Church is built upon; it is a turning point of arguably the most fundamental and critical book of the New Testament. This where the apostle Paul switches from teaching the gospel to what is expected of us as Christians in day-to-day living. Paul asks us to come together in unity, by the mercies of God, to lift up one living sacrifice as our worship. He continues by talking about the importance of transformation through a renewed mind. The progressive sanctification that takes place in the renewing of our minds is the testing in which God shows us His will for our lives. In the end, we want to provide an environment to aid people in finding God’s perfect will for their lives in order to bring Him glory. Interested in participating? We are always looking for people that have extended interests in ministry to join our team of leaders. Our unique style allows room for prayer nights, worship services, and even testimony sharing. If you write poetry, if you paint, or if you have something on your heart to share, we encourage you to become invested in some way. Because we are all broken people, each of us must rely upon the mercy and grace of our Savior. Soma Church is a place where this can happen. It’s a place of refuge, encouragement, and community. Revival comes from a passionate community bound by the same purpose. Therefore, I encourage you all to join the body. 3
Crandall Poll Curtis Hoyt
Poll Question: What is the best late night snack for a university student?
1.McDonalds 2.Pizza 3.Chocolate A key aspect to being a university student for most is late night snacking. I mean, late at night is the best time to indulge in your favorite foods without worrying how many calories you're consuming, right? So when several university students are asked, the top choice for a late night snack is McDonald's. The top three are listed above and some honorable mentions are ice cream, chips, and Kraft Dinner. McDonald's was likely a popular choice because of convenience and cost. For on-campus students, McDonalds is the closest fast food joint around. For off-campus students, in Moncton alone there are at least 4 locations not including the ones in Dieppe. Also, it's cheap and delicious. When most people think cheap and convenient food, they think McDonalds. So for the late night snacker, here are the top options for stuffing your face whenever you please!
Defending the Faith Cody Guitard
One of the biggest problems in the modern church is that it seems to have lost the biblical way of sharing the Gospel. We often hear preachers saying something along the lines of “God has a wonderful plan for your life.” This is a misleading message, however, because - let’s be honest - nonbelievers don’t typically think of persecution and martyrdom as being ‘wonderful.’ Never once in Scripture do you see Jesus or the Apostles going around telling people that God has a wonderful plan for their lives or that they have a God-shaped hole in their hearts. The Gospel is not about God improving people’s lives, but about saving people’s lives from sin and its consequences. What is sin? Sin is when we break God’s commands, such as His moral laws, the Ten Commandments. Every time we lie, steal, lust, or covet, we are sinning against God. It doesn’t matter how many good things we might have done in our lives, they simply do not outweigh the bad. Because God is a good judge, He will judge us not according to what we’ve done right, but according to what we’ve done wrong, and the Bible says that the penalty for sin is death. While God is perfectly just, He is also perfect in love, grace, compassion, and mercy. Thus, He did the unthinkable. About 2000 years ago, God came to Earth as a man, Jesus Christ, and paid the penalty for all of our sins: death. He was tortured to the point of no longer being recognizable as a man, nailed to a wooden cross, and hung there until He breathed His last breath. His last words were, "It is finished,” meaning that the price for our sins had been paid. Three days later, He rose from the grave having conquered both sin and death. Because of this, we have hope in Jesus. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." As Christians, we are to share this good news with everyone we meet.

SHALLNOT Who We Are We pledge that: we shallnot withhold, we shallnot compromise, we shallnot surrender. In all that is done the main thrust of vision is that the artist remains true, our hearts pure and that the work that is started can come to its natural fulfillment in us. Shallnot to fulfill the vision as laid out will be a forum and an opportunity for students to express their ideas through all forms of prose and poetry. Works will be edited only through conversation with the artist. Censorship will be based only on brevity and vision. -Austin Reid J.

You Cannot Silence Me Where I’m from is important not, As who I am. I am tattoos and piercings, Colorful hair and laughter throughout the night. Singing songs and dancing in the moonlight, Loud music and the howl of wolves ringing in ear. Love, Pain, Happiness, and Hiding always.
I am the ghost of the friend you thought you knew, I am the girl that no one truly knows. In my head pain and happiness fight to the death, No one ever truly knows who is winning. Fire burns brightly as the array of colors in my eyes. I am me I fight the voices to be free You cannot silence me! - Kenny Dee
Just Because I Smile Just because I smile doesn’t mean that I don’t cry. Just because I’m laughing doesn’t mean that I’m alright. My happy, joyous nature doesn’t mean that I don’t hurt. Accepting a compliment doesn’t mean I know my worth. Avoiding easy romance doesn’t mean that I’m not lonely. Being friendly doesn’t mean I’ll let you get to know me. That I know where I’m going doesn’t mean I’ve found my way. My own opinion doesn’t mean that I know what to say. Sharing my dreams doesn’t mean that I think they’ll come true. Embarking on a journey doesn’t mean I don’t miss you. Learning new things doesn’t mean that I’ll forget my past. Uncertainty doesn’t mean I don’t want this to last. I say I’m fine, but it doesn’t mean my fears have left my side. 5
And growing doesn’t mean that I’m ready to say goodbye. Being brave in spite of danger doesn’t mean I don’t get scared. Rolling with the punches doesn’t mean that I’m prepared. Staying hopeful doesn’t mean that it’s not hard to stand, And letting go doesn’t mean that I don’t need a hand. And moving on doesn’t mean your face has left my mind, But looking back has never meant I wish I could rewind. - Kathy Holmes
And sometimes both at the same time Because that's what being human means It means variety and differences And complexity and messiness And being two things, or more things, at once And sometimes two contradictory things at once It means paradoxes and confusion And sometimes crying yourself to sleep And sometimes laughing until you cry Because humans aren't simple And you can't put them in boxes And you shouldn't try
Humans
Where’s the Humanity?
I know girls who are hurricanes And tsunamis And winter storms that can tear your skin to shreds And I know boys that are gentle spring winds And flowers in a sunny meadow And birdsong in the spring And it doesn't matter Because they're both human
Define humanity: humanness, benevolence, the human race. Reconsidered, the definition is disgrace. “Where’s the humanity?” A young woman once cried, As she watched her family be beaten and tied. “Where’s the humanity?” A young man thinks, As he watches news reports, shedding tears with each blink. “Where’s the humanity?” activists declare, When they plead their cause and “the man” just stares. “Where’s the humanity?” the elderly say, As they work their whole lives to have them taken away. “Where’s the humanity?” scream it out to gain clarity, For what, in fact, is humanity?
I know girls like winter sunshine And lace on the edge of a sleeve And the gentle hum of drowsy summer afternoons And boys like firestorms And statues of stone and brass And lasers that can cut through hardest diamond And it doesn't matter Because they're both human It doesn't matter But it's beautiful too Because beauty comes in many forms And because they're both human And I Can be both strong and gentle Like everyone else
And why would you want to? - Theo
This is humanity. Take a look around. It’s sad, it’s gross, and it screams but doesn’t make a sound. This is humanity. It shivers and shocks. It throws up in your toilet at 3 o’clock. This is humanity. It cries, lonely and lost, 6
Like a leaf blown away by the wind, or destroyed by the frost. This is humanity. It reeks of disregard. It’s too busy picking itself up to see it’s permanently scarred. This is humanity: in need of repair. In need of a savior. In need of great care. What is humanity? It’s broken and stained, And there once stood a cross exactly the same. There is a Saviour, who was pierced with humanity’s own three nails, Who suffered and died for all that is wretched and fails. There is a Saviour. He’s perfect and pure. He stands with outstretched arms that are safe and secure. There is the Saviour. He’s holy and true. He’s alive today and calls out to me and you. There is the Saviour. The answer to humanity’s plea. His name is Jesus, and He has dominion from sea to sea. Jesus, the Saviour, Lord of lords, and King of kings. He is the one for whom all creation sings. What is humanity? Jesus replies: It is blind, but I open up eyes. It is broken, but I am the mender. It is dark, but I am splendor. It is wretched, but I give it worth, It is falling apart, but I made the earth. - Katie Hamilton
A Song for the Song of Lost Mountain Kin
O potter’s wheel let me find myself in thee Cleft my soul tunnels dim And soar now with doves above Looking down I see yon Mountain people looking back at me. Still wind blows coming from the sea Arrest me o wind your prisoner I’ll be. Tis beauty and no more I see. O pangs sweet mountain forlorn Further, further till I cry “no more.” No! Onward still; over white capped waves, Carry me still from white capped peaks. Entice me anew to great mystery I go To maple leaves and warm autumn glow. My heart leaps forth and lets albatross fly, Ink Ocean tides on rough paper plains. Tis beauty and no more I see. Arise my mind at wonders unknown Sea glass splash jumps And swift to and fro As time slow grows with winter’s falling snow. Alas, erect I hear and stand Woeful song of lost mountain kin. Shall I by thee weary flee again? Resolution rears and reigns And begin once more shall I As fly, fly home To tunnels known To lost mountain kin and Their Song my heart sing. - Austin Reid J.

The Voice Who Loves You
Don’t run away from me Don’t you dare do that You think you’re protecting me From chaos in your head But that’s not it. That’s not what you’re doing. Don’t you understand? I want to help. Please take my hand. I’m holding it out. You don’t even have to reach far. I want to see the chaos And all of the pain Because they’re real. I want to cry because you’re hurting And hold you when you’re sad Because that’s you And that’s real. And if you won’t let me in for the hard times How can I appreciate The wonder of the good times And what right do I have to appreciate them. When I asked you to let me in It wasn’t just for the gilt and the gold Or the joking or the joy. I wanted the guilt and the grey And the tension and the tears. Because they’re real And they’re you. And no one should have to face life alone. No one. - Theo
Within my heart Two beings dwell. One of peace And one from hell. With each other They duel and fight. Throughout the day And into the night. Although I scream And try to shout. No savior comes To get them out. The voice of peace He hates my ways. The voice from hell Whispers to stray. Although I try To live life well. The voices fight I cannot tell. What is right And what is wrong. So I close my eyes And hear the bird's song. No judgement lingers In his voice. He prompts me forward To make a choice. Chose the voice Who loves me for me. Or live my life Unhappily. So I close my eyes And grow my wings. I shall live in the tree With the bird while he sings. -Kenny Dee
