Discovered by the great Armin Van Buuren (so you know he’s good), Arnej is known for such tracks as ‘Strangers we’ve Become’ and ‘The Return’. Arnej will be heading to X2 on the 21st of January and will be having a little friendly DJ bout with Dancefellas remixer maestro Arty. Other local DJs set to raise the roof include DJ Yudhi, Glend and Dikaa. It’s time for trance fans to get together and enjoy the music they love.

Dominique A

GoodNews Productions in conjunction with The Company Studio and Homecooking Jakarta are set to bring UK DJ, Benji B to our fair city. On the 21st of January, this renowned DJ will be performing at Malt, which is located at Haji Agus Salim Menteng. Benji B won’t be alone in his efforts to bring the party to Jakarta, he’ll be accompanied by a string of local talents including, DJ Sanjion and Markus from 24Seven, Ebby from Melting Pod and Rei from Homecooking. Another January party not to be missed.

French pop minimalist songwriter and performer Dominique A will collaborate with French allies Miossec and Yan Tiersen to perform at the small theatre of Taman Ismail Marzuki. To promote his latest 80’s style synth sounding album titled ‘Musique’, Dominique A will entertain all those French music fans with a live performance on the 20th January. Scoop Step Up – Red Square’s Freestyle Dance Competition After successfully selecting the best lip sync performer last year, Red Square is now in search for the best freestyle dancer to shake their money makers on stage. The competition will see two elimination rounds on the 6th and 13th of January, with the finals to be held on the 20th of January. Contestants will be judged according to dance skills, creative costumes and choice of music. Winners will go away with a cash prize and trophy to prove they are the best. Two Doors Cinema Club

Change of Schedule

Alternative, electropop, indierock band from Northern Ireland, better known as Two Doors Cinema Club, is scheduled to perform in Jakarta, more precisely at Tennis Indoor Senayan, on the 15th of February. If you’re familiar with the songs ‘Something Good Can Work’, ‘I Can Talk’, and ‘Underover Martyn’ you’ll know the style of music the band is going to play at their live performance. After successfully bringing Temper Trap to the stage plus many other successful live performances this year, Ismaya Live! is set to kick 2011 in gear with Two Doors Cinema Club as their first stage show of the New Year.

After much deliberation, Urbanite has decided to move their concert featuring bands MGMT and The Whitest Boy Alive from Tennis Indoor Senayan to Bengkel Nightpark. No changes have been made to the date of the performance - Urbanite has promised to keep it on the 26th of March. Since the event will be held at Bengkel Nightpark, the tribunal tickets that were offered are no longer available and have all been changed to festival tickets. Tickets will set you back Rp325K and are available at all Aksara and Portico outlets.

Jakarta

2011 Sentra Konser Musik Asia Tahun 2010 baru saja berlalu beberapa hari. Dalam konteks berkesenian, khususnya pelibatan artis manca negara, tahun lalu Indonesia—utamanya Jakarta—menunjukkan geliat yang sungguh menggembirakan. Bukan saja makin banyak musisi asing mendatangi Nusantara (Java Jazz 2010 saja mendatangkan 430 orang), kian kerap diadakan festival musik berkaliber internasional (Java Rockin’Land adalah pagelaran musik cadas paling masif di Asia Tenggara), juga kualitasnya menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan (sebut saja penghibur kelasnya telah setingkat 311, Placebo, & Smashing Pumpkins). Nah, bagaimana dengan 2011? Tampaknya makin “gawat”. Kongsi seniman mulai dari Deftones (8 Februari, Tennis Indoor Senayan), Iron Maiden (17 Februari, Gelora Bung Karno), New Found Glory (23 Februari,

beatmag.com 044

Tennis Indoor Senayan), Stone Temple Pilots (13 Maret 2011, Pantai Karnaval Ancol), Jimmy Eat World (3 April, Tennis Indoor Senayan), hingga Maroon 5 (27 April, Istora Senayan) menggoyang Jakarta.

Feature

In the context of international entertainment, last year brought a lot of hope to Jakarta. So many overseas musicians were involved (Java Jazz 2010 itself brought 430 musicians alone). The calibre of the festivals became much bigger (Java Rockin’Land was considered to be the largest rock event in South East Asia). More and more world famous bands came and played (311, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins, to name a few). How about 2011? Will it get even more “large”. The early days of this new year N.E.R.D. will play in Istora Senayan. A bit after that Ne-Yo will also perform at the same venue. In February there’ll be Deftones, Iron Maiden and New Found Glory. In March Stone Temple Pilots. In April Jimmy Eat World & Maroon 5. From this list the general public can be optimistic that the music shows in Indonesia will be even more dynamic. We won’t be too surprised if Jakarta or Indonesia could reach at least “Asia’s Rock Mecca” status in 2011...

What music are you into at the moment? At this very moment I am listening to Toe, an instrumental band from Japan. What was the first record you bought—any interesting stories behind it? The first CD I bought was by Lenny Kravitz. I bought it when I was still in high school, can’t remember how old I was. What are your all-time favourite albums? Why? Led Zeppelin, and I like all of their albums. I just like the way they display their soul in their music. What was the worst record you ever purchased? Never. Ask around before you buy. Ha ha ha. Who do you want to be, other than yourself, next time you reincarnate? Mistique (one of the characters in X-Men that can transform into anyone) hahaha. What album do you choose to start your weekend with? Last weekend I was listening to Deftones’s new album, maybe next week I’ll be listening to Kylie Minogue. Anything goes. And album you choose to end your weekend with? Kaimsasikun.

D

Benar, Badai (vokal, keyboard) tercatat masih menjadi personel Kerispatih. Betul, "Badai Baru" bukan anak kemarin sore. Perhatikan Arief (gitar), ia juga anggota tetap Kerispatih. Enwil (vokal) mantan biduan Aladin. Deva dulunya drummer Pilot.

Brand New Storm (BNS) have created a big buzz: they have not even formally released their debut album, but Mustang FM, one of the biggest radios in Jakarta, has already awarded their upcoming debut as "The Hottest Album in January". After making quite a big buzz with their first single in 2010, "Harus Meninggalkanmu", in early January 2011 they released the second single, "Pergi". This single is actually one of the songs that is included in their upcoming album, SHER (Soul Heart, Energy, Responsive). Badai, keyboard/ vocal/leader of the band, gave Mustang FM the whole album that hadn’t yet been formally released. It turned out Mustang FM really liked the material and honoured it as "The Hottest Album in January". Although BNS only started to attract the public's attention in 2010, as a matter of fact, the personnel are pretty much veterans. Badai and Arief (guitar) are also members of Kerispatih. While Enwil (vocal) used to be the singer of Aladin, Deva played drums before in Pilot, and Eltrino took care of bass during his days with Pribumi. If you're into simple, easy listening and 90s music from the likes of Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Soul Asylum, Foo Fighters and The Calling, turn on your radio and check out their newest single "Pergi". My Culinary Journey in

Luna negra

2010

By Erza S.T.

As a city, Jakarta still has its problems. Luckily, Jakarta’s culinary landscape is improving more than the city itself. More and more new restaurants (independent or chain, in malls or not), are springing up all over the place. It reminded me of what Laksmi Pamuntjak once told me: “People need food! The restaurant business will always work in Jakarta”. This is especially true thanks to an ever-growing population to feed, ensuring that the restaurant business is indeed a safe one.

Nevertheless, we also need to remember that aside from moneymaking reasons, restaurant business owners also need to put high priority on service, food quality and price. As a food reviewer I see many restaurants opening just for the sake of it that lack any sort of passion. To start a restaurant business is totally fine, but having the knowledge of how to do it properly is of the utmost importance. This is something that most restaurant owners in Jakarta often overlook. So this is my list for 2010. I could go on and on with more restaurants as Jakarta has over 1,000 restaurants and countless street eateries, however the list below consists of restaurants that are most memorable to me.

KINARA Cuisine of India

Kinara has been Jakarta’s venue of choice for those who appreciate the finer things in life, especially when it comes to culinary delights from the subcontinent. Kinara Cuisines of India has been awarded as the best Indian restaurant in Jakarta many times over. Fashioned after the palaces of the mighty Maharajas, this romantic restaurant is a fine dining experience like no other.

hen you walk up the stairs (the restaurant is on the second floor), you feel like you are being transported to another world and another time. A couple of waitresses in colourful Indian attire immediately smiled and greeted us warmly on my recent visit. The place itself is really impressive. The ambiance is unmistakably Indian, with beautiful furniture and decorations that evoke the magnificent country of India. The stylish neutral tones are accentuated by soft lights streaming down the walls, while the rich aromas of burning oils drifted in the air as we sat down, adding a dramatic touch to our dining experience. It really felt like we were invited to some regal palace in India for a magnificent meal.

of the best quality, the cooking is brilliant, and the presentation excellent. That is why we love coming to this restaurant time and time again. Kinara is not just a great Indian restaurant, but having a meal there feels like a wonderful event, whether enjoying it by yourself, with your partner, or with a bunch of friends or family members. I recommend sitting in one of the intimate nooks and crannies for a better dining experience.

I’ve been to Kinara a couple of times before, but have yet to savour (from what I’ve heard) the best Indian Sunday brunch buffet in town, probably even in Indonesia! Every Sunday from 11.30am until 2.30pm, a sumptuous array of delicious dishes that are the trademark of Kinara await you. Our friendly waitress brought a complimentary This Sunday buffet is priced at 100k++ (including basket of papadums with chutneys, which started free flow juices and lassi), 150k++ (including free off the meal beautifully. We then ordered some flow beer), and 250++ (including free flow wine garlic naan (19k++) (leavened refined flour bread and beer). made in the tandoor and seasoned with garlic), Subz Shahjahani (52k++) (a richly flavoured curry Now, if that isn’t a good reason to visit Kinara, I of vegetables cooked with tomatoes and onions), don’t know what is. LIQUID

EXCHANGE bar | lounge | restaurant

Liquid Exchange is a fresh and vibrant concept by the Aphrodite group located on Epicentrum Walk. It is a great new place to meet, wine and dine in the heart of the Kuningan area.

A

t first glance, Liquid Exchange is a study in contrasts. The opulent bar area on the first floor with its chandeliers and mirrors turns into a cozy, more homely upstairs area. But most people make for the outdoor area, where you can enjoy your drinks and meals alfresco on the large comfy sofas in a beach-bar type of setting. There is one other feature that is unique to this place. You should check out the stock exchange-type drink menu (drinks market price information) featured on the plasma screens. The system goes like this; the more people that order a particular type of drink, the more its price will go down! Now that’s what I call an extra incentive! I visited Liquid Exchange with a few friends in tow on a nice, late afternoon. We came mainly for the happy hour (2-8pm, 40% discount on drinks), but we also decided to try the food there. They go to great lengths to make sure that the food is first-rate. The first thing we noticed on the menu was the extensive selection of soups from around the world. They come in two sizes, regular (200 ml) and big (300 ml).We ordered some Tom Yam Goong (29k, regular) - the ever-popular spicy Thai soup. It was a tasty starter, with just the right amount of kick. Next came escargot in bread boat (49k), and roast baby chicken with shiitake mushrooms (99k). The escargot is craftily hidden inside a hot dog-type bun, and sautéed in rich herb butter. It’s a feast for the eyes and the taste buds! The roast baby chicken is served with dauphine potatoes and mixed vegetables with herbs, and accompanied with a tasty creamy sauce. We were informed that their Asian food selection has received much praise from the patrons, with the stock exchange influenced names adding an extra level of fun: The Ikan Rica-Rica becomes ‘Ikan Rich-Rich’ (69k), the Beef Rendang turns into ‘Beef Rundown’ (79k), and the ‘Ayam Broker’ (69k) are among the crowd’s favourites. The lunch and dinner set menus are also noteworthy. For 45k, you’ll get soup, main course and dessert - a great deal indeed. We ended our visit with a Snickers Martini (80k) - just one of many concoctions offered here. Next time, we will definitely try the drinks market information on for size! Liquid Exchange had its soft opening on November 26th, 2010. It is still a new kid on the block, but already they are creating a lot of good hype. We are eagerly waiting for the grand opening sometime in February this year.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest Thriller, Drama. Director: Daniel Alfredson. Writer: Ulf Ryberg. Cast: Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace and Lena Endre. After playing with fire in the previous sequel, Lisbeth Salander, the girl with the dragon tattoo, shows how to kick the hornet’s nest this time in this last installment of the Millenium trilogy adapted from Stieg Larsson’s books. The storyline follows on from the second installment, where Lisbeth fights to prove her innocence with the help of Mikael and her journalist friends from Millenium magazine. The last film in this trilogy will grip you with its courtroom-drama tension for a large part of the story. Be sure to pay attention to every scene, as a few puzzles from the previous sequel are answered here.

Burlesque Musical, Drama. Writer & Director: Steve Antin. Cast: Cher, Christina Aguilera, Alan Cumming, Stanley Tucci, Eric Dane, Kristen Bell.

It seems like drama musical films have been making a bit of a comeback of late, but star-studded casts in movies of this genre don‘t always guarantee a hit. However, let’s try to throw the scepticism away for this one. Burlesque features the legendary Cher’s and stunning voice of Christina Aguilera. The story revolves around how Tess (Cher) struggles to revive the glory of her burlesque theatre days, only to find her new bar waitress, Ali (Christina), has the talent to put herself back the spotlight. With a spark of romance in the story, two original songs nominated for the upcoming Golden Globes, an eye-candy cast, sensuality and sexually provocative burlesque performing art, both male and female audiences are sure to find it enjoyable at the very least. So don’t delay and get glammed up with this fabulous flick!

Ever heard or read about the myth of the “Black Plague”, when practice of dark sorcery and witches caused mysterious death? Director Dominic Sena (Swordfish, Whiteout) tries to bring us this fictional adventure of a crusader (Nicolas Cage, Ghost Rider) and fellow knight (Ron Perlman, Hellboy) in their horrifying quest to transport an accused witch girl to a remote abbey for monks to perform a ritual, only to find themselves encountering a powerful destructive force. The story may be a tad predictable for such adventure fantasy movie, but the mystery atmosphere, the medieval-like cinematography and visual effects to complement the supernatural element are guaranteed to suck you in. FIND YoUR SIGNATURE SCENT AT ThE DIffERENT CoMpANy Most of us would love to have a signature scent that is memorable to anyone who smells it. Being unique and one of a kind is also important in choosing the scent that suits you the best. Understanding that necessity of being unique, The Different Company (TDC) offers its ultimate “haute perfumeries” selections with the highest quality of ingredients. Founded in 2000, TDC was created by product designer Thierry de Baschmakoff, perfume composer Jean–Claude Ellena, and daughter Celine Ellena. Their unisex personal creations are developed with a creative process that hinges on creating unique scents. TDC’s ultimate collection consists of six different scents; bergamote, bois d’iris, jasmin de nuit, osmanthus, rose poivree and sel de vetiver. Bergamote is described as a contemporary classic fragrance mixed with ginger, orange-flower and vert-de-feuille, infused with rhubarb wood and musk to prolong the pleasure. Bois d’iris is an aristocratic fragrance which contains the aromatic iris palida blends with vetiver, bergamot, cedar wood, narcissus, geranium and musk to deliver the wonderful scent of a flower. Jasmin de nuit is a warm and caressing scent of jasmine, a delicate yet shortlived flower that lightens the night with its scent, and gently disappears at dawn to remind us of peaceful summer nights and evening winds. Osmanthus scent is extracted from the osmanthus flower which

originates in China and is known to be very fragile. The flower itself blooms in autumn, and its refined fragrance travels far. Add a note of vertdefeuille, bergamot, orange, mandarin, rose, rose berries, pastoreum or musk for an unforgettable scent. Rose Poivree is described as powerful and fresh. Hence, it can be worn by women and men. The perfume leaves a unique sensual scent, blended with warm peppery notes, such as rose, rose berries, pepper, coriander, vetiver and civet. 50 kilos of rose petals are required to create 250 ml of Rose Poivree. Sel de Vetiver is created for those who want to feel the sensation after bathing in the sea, every single day. The salty and sweet harmonious scent will leave you feeling sensual and fresh. The essence is heavy, earthy, and sour with stronger grapefruit zest and warmer woody notes. It’s been held up as “a magnificent fragrance” by The New York Times Magazine in 2006. FART, Art In Cycle Culture

December 22-29, 2010 Cyclo Bike Co. Jl. Kemang Raya no. 80 (behind Aksara Bookstore), Jakarta Selatan

There was a time when bicycles were just considered ordinary objects. But thanks to Fixie, the nickname for fixed-gear bikes, those days are over. Bicycles are now considered cool once again and even better, you can now turn them into pieces of art. Cyclo Bike Co., a new bike shop in Jakarta, held “FART, Art In Cycle Culture”, an art exhibition focusing on fixie bikes as the main object. From Aprilia Apsari, Arie Dyanto, Arks, plus many fixie bike enthusiasts gave their interpretation of this retro return as homage to this hipster vehicle.

Art You Can Ride As the streets of the capital grow ever more congested, the choice to use bicycles as an alternative transport is becoming a trend. The choice to use the fixie bikes, which several hardcore bicycle devotees consider a not-sopopular means of cycling is itself becoming an artsy selection for the young and trendy. Twenty exhibited artists, who happen to be fixie riders, manifested their love for their vehicle in their art works.

Fixie’s are known for their simplicity and the customization culture behind this new rising trend is left open to ones imagination. These bikes have sparked the creativity of many of its riders and judging by the strokes and the color used in their artworks, most of the pieces presented here were in the vein of pop art movement.

When art is beatin’ to a pulp

beatmag.com 076

No doubt, visitors to “All but Paper: Contemporary Paper Art” will find various messages shrouded within the pieces exhibited, although the only main theme of the exhibition is paper. Curated by Asmudjo Jono Irianto, the exhibition held at dia.lo.gue artspace, Kemang, celebrates the work of modern art using the keyword “paper” as the main object. From two-dimensional artworks printed on paper to the literal use of paper as the shapes that fill the space, you’ll never see paper the same way again. In the mainstream art scene, using paper as a medium of art is often judged as ‘second-grade’ work and shows low profile in character. However, one cannot deny that paper is used as the most basic material in creating art and plays an important role in every artist’s creative experience. Some of the pieces exhibited here can be classified as conventional works on paper. Artists such as T. Sutanto (Tarian Langit), Theresia Agustina (What Ark), Eddie Hara (Who’s Gonna Be My Guiding Light), Budi Kustarto (Take Me To Heaven), and Hilman Hendarsyah fill the blank spaces of paper with construction heavy in visual narration targeted at opening ones imagination. There are also some lessconventional artworks printed on paper by Agan Harahap (Unchained Melody), Arief Tousiga (Hi-story in Low Resolution) and Deden Durahman (AITTO: Mandala #2). Even though their creations of art are made by digital processing, the manipulation of historical images mocking our modern capitalistic society and its culture is of paramount interest. The contemporary use of paper in a wider sense is shown by Adi Purnomo (Rumah Susun untuk Siapa?), Aditya Novali (White Ashes), Henricus Linggawidjaja (Fully Booked), Mendiola B. Wiryawan (Curtain of Question), Beni Messa (Shirt) and Eric Widjaja (Legacy). The use of paper as a medium to create shapes and voice their social critiques is impressive. By incorporating various methods to manipulate paper visually; from folding to concaving; all pieces sends a message to the world.

All but Paper: Contemporary Paper Art December 3, 2010 – January 8, 2011 dia.lo.gue artspace [LeBoYe] Jl. Kemang Selatan 99a, Jakarta

“All but Paper: Contemporary Paper Art” is able to demonstrate all the sentiments above with just a simple piece of paper. It is amazing what these artists are capable of doing to this recyclable yet tree destroying material.

Both organizations have been doing this messagesending art since 2004 and now this “Year End Project invaded Blora and Dukuh Atas tunnel. The tragedies of 2010 made it a hell of a year to face. It comes with a 600 MHz ARM processor and 419 MB of RAM. It has 170 MB of internal storage and supports up to 32 GB microSD cards. It runs Android 2.2 Froyo with a modified UI shell. Except for a few frills, LG has mostly left the Android OS alone, which is a very good thing. Cellular World. Jl Teuku Umar no 60 (Denpasar) RP. 2,890,000

CardSharp Folding Credit Card Knife

While not as robust a multitasker as even a basic Swiss Army Knife, this folding credit card blade from Iain Sinclair looks far more compact and smuggle-friendly as you can keep it stashed away in your wallet. It weighs just 13 grams, is only 2mm thick and features a stainless steel blade with a healthy 65mm cutting edge and a short serrated edge on the opposite side. When folded away a built-in sheath prevents you from accidentally touching the sharp blade, and since I’m sure you’re having as hard a time as I did envisioning how it does fold/unfold. http:// www.ohgizmo.com/ $23

Scoop International Day of Italian Cuisine Three Italian chefs, each working from their respective kitchens in Bali, will participate in the 4th Annual International Day of Italian Cuisine to take place on Monday, January 17th, 2011. The trio of Bali-based chefs will join a global group of 1,000 fellow Italian chefs all preparing a deceptively simple dish - Pesto alla Genovese - on that date. One of the three chefs joining the culinary campaign is Giordano Fagioli of the AYANA Resort and Spa Bali, who will present this well-known dish with a few modern touches not often seen in traditional methods. To celebrate this annual day of Italian cuisine why not visit the three chefs at each Bali location as they present their individual versions of this ubiquitous Italian favourite. They are: Chef Giorano Faggioli – Executive Chef, AYANA Resort and Spa Bali at Jimbaran. Massimo Sacco – Owner-chef, Da Massimo Restaurant in Sanur, Michele Greggio – Executive Chef, Puri Jimbaran Resort, Jimbaran.

Bali Requests UNESCO Geopark Status for Mount Batur The Indonesian government is seeking to have the Mount Batur National Park, located in the regency of Bangli in Bali, included in the UNESCO network of Global Geoparks. UNESCO Geoparks are recognized by the United Nations as “a territory encompassing one or more sites of scientific importance, not only for geological reasons but also by virtue of its archaeological, ecological or cultural value.” The director of promotions at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Achyaruddin, sees geopark status as important for increasing tourist numbers to a specific destination. The government is lobbying for geopark status for both the Mount Batur site and for the Pacitan nature reserve area of East Java. Only two other Southeast Asian districts - Langkawi in Malaysia and Dong Van Karst in Vietnam - have qualified for geopark status from UNESCO.

Dhyana Pura’s New Chill out Spot The construction walls have finally come down and the previously unknown white building on Dhyana Pura has been named as Maria Magdalena. Seemingly devoid of any religious ties excepting the name, Maria Magdalena is the little sister of JP’s Warung - housing a chill out bar downstairs and two large billiard tables on the second floor. Sometime this year, JP’s Warung will undergo renovation to connect both venues with the stage being moved further to the back. A sushi place will also be set at the back of Maria Magdalena to cater to those after some good Japanese grub.

Double Six Even with a backdrop of hideous and rampant fireworks (that should be banned from the streets), heavy down pours of rain and constant drizzle, New Year’s Eve this year was a huge success all over town. Hot spots like Kuta were ram packed with tourists and locals like always, with a heavy police presence and roads closed to keep things under wraps. Most Seminyak streets were also suffering traffic jams from start to finish, with cars abandoned in the middle of the streets leaving people trying to make it by foot to their favorite venues. Early heavy rains and streets full of water made the trip even more difficult. The last 66 NYE (before they are rumoured to close later this year) was heaving with approx 6ooo people through the doors - an end of a long and famous saga perhaps, but time will tell if it does come to fruition or not. Parties rocked on till dawn including the newly renovated and larger DeeJay Club in Kuta which was also packed to the rafters by daylight. Another crazy New Year’s Eve passes leaving us all with tales to tell and another fresh year to behold, wiping the slate clean and rejoicing once more in what we have here and now. Enjoy 2011 folks.....

Food review

Barefoot

Alfresco Dining

Enjoy great food and great drinks at an affordable price while digging your feet in the sand of Double Six Beach.

H

ave you ever felt the pangs of hunger while walking on Double Six Beach but just couldn’t be bothered putting your flip-flops back on just to get something to eat? Well, your solution is here in the form of Sandpit, a little shack restaurant offering a wide array of food and drinks often only ever found at upmarket places. Located on the beach directly across the street from Double Six club, this little shack may not look so interesting from the street, but the moment you cross over the wall onto the beach, you’ll be greeted by white wooden chairs in the sand and a rustic looking wooden shack with a bar. Chalk boards surround the bar area announcing the specials of the day. The whole look is reminiscent of those classic surfing flicks from the sixties. Don’t be fooled by the minimalistic shack style of the decor, as the variety of food and beverages offered at the Sandpit are that of any upscale restaurant, but with the option of going barefoot. One of the most popular items on Sandpits menu and a positive must try is the Club Sandwich (Rp26K) served with roasted potato wedges is a great pick me up after a swim on the beach. Another light yet delicious hunger buster is the Caramalized Pineapple Chicken (Rp37K) bathed in a sweet yet savory honey lemon sauce, served with a refreshing fresh salad on the side. If you happen to come with a larger appetite, the Chefs Menu Seafood Combo (Rp150K) is sure to fill any empty belly. Consisting of nearly every seafood item on the menu grilled to perfection, served with three spicy sambals, the freshness and flavors are very reminiscent of the golden days of Jimbaran. Something famous from the hawker stalls of Malaysia, Chili Crab (Rp50K) also finds its way to the menu but with a lighter and less spicy sauce like you would find in its place of origin. The beverages offered are various, from fresh juices and mocktails to a select number of specially created cocktails and all at very reasonable prices. The proprietors of the place strive to bring quality food at an affordable price and in my honest opinion they’ve succeeded. [Rinaldi]

annekepis celebrated three years in downtown Seminyak before Christmas with friends and fans coming in their droves to enjoy a few drinks and canapĂŠs. ikon showed its charitable side by holding an early Christmas event to raise funds for YAPPENATIM Orphanage. Up on stage to entertain the crowd was an acoustic performance by Made J as well as DJ Alfan on the decks. The crowd may have been small that night, due to the weather, but they all had heart making their way there just for the kids.

Feel the Love

F

rench Dj, producer, model, and all round cool guy, Bob Sinclar literally filled the streets with music and people at The Stones in Kuta last week. Set up in the side street within The Stones complex, Sinclar played a bunch of House, mixing catchy remixes in and out of the play list to the appreciation (hands in the air!) of the mainly Kuta tourist crowd. They loved it, we loved it, everybody loves‌. Bob Sinclar!

o celebrate 88 manager, Ronaldizco’s birthday a special party was held titled Sparkling Disco. On the decks that night were Sparkling Saint (Iso Eddy and Fla), DJ Echa 1945MF, Vai and several other DJs, plus VJ Indramatic. The sexy side of the celebration came in the form of a fashion show by Jakarta Top Models and CnC Models plus, you guessed it, 88’s sexy dancers. Ronaldizco was in great form and looking as debonair as always..
