WHAT’S YOUR MEDIUM? Standing in the middle of K Space Contemporary, I looked around at the 15 Coastal Bend artists who have congregated in downtown Corpus Christi to showcase their work for our first annual “State of the Arts” issue. I didn’t have a clue how we were going to fit all of them into this month’s cover story; however, they all were so passionate about their art. Each artist was truly as unique as the medium he or she used. They carved anything from mesquite to surfboards. They painted with acrylics, oils and pastels. Some worked with coffee filters, others chose rope and wire. Not a single piece of art resembled another, yet each artist resides right here in the Coastal Bend. Luckily, there is no way to avoid the arts in the Coastal Bend. You might pass a wall of street art on the way to work. Maybe a gallery sits next to your favorite lunch spot. You might even know a local artist. Either way, the arts are alive and well! Did you know that the Coastal Bend is home to some world-renowned artists or that Rockport is estimated to have the most artists per capita than any city in Texas, including Austin? The City of Corpus Christi has recognized the growing downtown arts movement and the Downtown Management District is committed to fostering a growing arts district. I recently heard that schools are no longer including art classes in their core curriculum. I think that is unfortunate. Deep down inside, I believe we are all artists in one way or another. We might not all paint, but there is a kind of art to whatever we do. I have even seen analytical types gaze at an excel spreadsheet as if it were a masterpiece. We set out to find a variety of artists making an impact on the local arts scene. This proved to be an easy task. There are so many creative, talented people using their gifts and abilities to contribute to the quality of life in the Coastal Bend. My challenge for all of us this month is to rediscover your inner artist. Whatever your medium, work and create in a way that brings more hope, joy inspiration or beauty to everyone in the Coastal Bend. - Jordan Regas Jordan@thebendmag.com

1. WATER STREET SUMMER FEST
June 5th & 6th, 2015 Water Street Market www.texassurfmuseum.org The 11th annual Water Street Summer Fest kicks off with a 7pm performance by Texas Polka Hall of Fame members, the Leo Majek Orchestra. These local legends will be the first to perform at this year’s stars in the South Texas Music Walk of Fame. Other 2015 inductees include: Tony Joe White, Jeff “El Jefe’” Anderson, John Campbell, Randy Garibay, and Roberto Pullido. Each year’s event includes at least one special tribute to a musician who is deceased or who can’t be with us due to schedule conflicts. The much loved Randy Garibay has passed on but will be forever known as “The Barbacoa Blues Man of San Antonio.” Tony Joe White can’t make it, but the afternoon performances will include a version of “Polk Salad Annie.” And members of Junction, the former band of deceased blues legend John Campbell, are traveling thousands of miles to honor their dear friend. The Water Street Summer Fest also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Executive Surf Club and the 10th anniversary of the Texas Surf Museum.

A SMALL TOWN WITH A NATIONAL REPUTATION
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE Three words: Flicks With Food. Corpus Christi’s only dine-in movie theater is slated to open in December at the corner of Staples and Yorktown. At 32,000 square feet, the Alamo Drafthouse will feature seven screens and a state-of-the-art culinary kitchen, plus plenty of brews, of course. The chain says each of its locations offer more than 30 beers on tap, with an emphasis on craft beer and microbrews. All seven screens are equipped with Sony 4K Digital Projection and Dolby Digital sound.
LITTLE FREE LIBRARY Wisconsin resident Todd Bol probably didn’t imagine the small little library in his front yard would turn into a national trend. But it did. In 2009, Bol built a replica of a schoolhouse, placed it in his front yard, and filled it with books for his neighbors to take for free. They loved it, and ever since, Little Free Libraries have popped up all over the U.S. Bol’s organization says it wants to promote literacy and a love of reading, along with a sense of community. Visitors can take a book or add one to the collection. Find one of the four Corpus Christi locations and get involved. Littlefreelibrary.org

Readers of USA Today recently voted Rockport, Texas, as one of the “Best Coastal Small Towns” in America. Rockport scored #5 in the nation, beating out even the iconic city of Mystic, Conn. USA Today noted the city’s art culture, along with fishing, shopping, and dining, as reasons for Rockport’s rise to national prominence. It is estimated that Rockport has the greatest number of artists per capita in the state of Texas. The prodigious output of the painters, sculptors, photographers, and other artisans has become a substantial industry in this small town, with dealers from all over the world coming to purchase art.

Q&A with
CHRISTINA KETCHUM Q. What made you decide to be a psychotherapist and life coach?
Corpus Christi Psychotherapist, Counselor, & Life Coach is helping our community feel empowered and hopeful.
A. I have an innate drive to help others. I remember at a very young age being aware of others’ negative emotions (sad, angry, hurt and lonely) and being drawn to help them. In elementary school, I recall facilitating a pseudo group therapy session with my friends and also teaching a friendless peer how to make friends. I also received a lot of encouragement and direction from my mom who is a University Professor in Social Work. In my opinion, there is nothing more amazing than watching a person overcome pain and difficult obstacles in order to become a strong, well-balanced and happy individual.
Q. What should you look for in a good life coach or psychotherapist? A. One of the most important factors in choosing a therapist or life coach is that you feel like you’re on a team. The relationship should be as equals working together and not a hierarchy. You should get the sense that they are trying to really know you and connect with you both on an intellectual and emotional level. They must stay up-to-date on the latest research and receive additional training throughout the year. They should also inspire hope and optimism for your ability to overcome obstacles and make positive changes. Finally, they need to be persistent but patient. Change is extremely hard. The human mind likes patterns and consistency and will naturally fight against change even when it’s positive. A good therapist / life coach will continue to push you forward without being critical or judgmental when there is resistance or slip-ups.

parenting, research has found that the best thing a parent can do to develop positive attachment to their children is to have a Coherent Life Narrative. Many of us have gone through difficulties and/or experienced emotional, physical or sexual trauma. Being able to discuss the trauma openly and relay how it affected our life story and what we did to overcome is vital to our overall well-being and our relationships with others. Many people try to ignore difficulties or trauma they experience or pretend it doesn’t affect them. Instead of working through the pain, they suppress it. This can lead to addictions, self-damaging behaviors, relationship problems, anxiety, depression or other mental health disorders.
Q. What do you love most about your job and impact you have on people’s lives?
Q. Are there any foundational concepts or techniques you often share with clients? If so, what are they? A. In recent neuroscience research, meditation and the positive effects it has on the human mind and body has been studied. We live in a day and age of information overload and anxiety/stress related disorders are on the rise. Our brains are being bombarded with information around every corner. Meditation allows the
brain to slow down and dump the information overload that can lead to overwhelming stress. Having a daily meditation routine is proven to reduce stress, improve concentration, reduce negative emotions and increase overall happiness. Because of the many benefits of mediation, I am currently getting certified as a Mediation Practitioner in order to better help my clients develop the practice in their own lives. Another technique I share with my clients is to work toward having a Coherent Life Narrative. Regarding
[the lifestyle magazine of the coastal bend}
A. I love watching people go from overwhelmed, afraid and hopeless to empowered, integrated and filled with hope and purpose. I love helping people identify their strengths and using those strengths to overcome barriers and negative strongholds. I love helping people work through unresolved pain, trauma and /or guilt to find peace and freedom. I love helping people learn new and healthier life skills in order to unlock their full potential. And what I love most is the ripple effect my work has on others that I’ve never even met. Many of my clients use their life story and work in therapy to positively influence their family, friends and co-workers. It is a beautiful phenomenon, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

GIVING BACK
David Tapscott, Clinc Director for Metro Ministries
THE BUSINESS
OF TRANSFORMATION Words: Christina Boothe Photos: Rachel Durrent
Metro Ministries is actively working to transform lives and get families off the street.
The media represents the face of homelessness as that of a middle-aged man, but the average age of a homeless person is nine years old.
L
ines of people wait outside to get some lunch. Each one of them has a story of their own—a story that not many people have ever stopped to hear. These people are used to being cast off because of their appearance. When you’re homeless, you can’t afford the luxury of showering every day or having a closet full of nice, clean clothes. But most people never really try to understand a person’s situation. However, at Metro Ministries, many of the overlooked homeless are finding a second chance.
30 the bend magazine
“We serve up to 500 meals a day,” said Annie Ramirez, Director of Development at Metro Ministries. “Those who come in have to eat in 15 minutes, so that we can get the next groups in quickly.”
The facilities are stellar. The Kitchen Manager is a military veteran and runs the kitchen like a tight ship. Unsurprisingly, Metro Ministries’ meal services score 100% with the health department during checkups.
The organization has multiple partnerships with food banks and Schlotsky’s, who is working with them to introduce healthier eating habits for visitors. The meal center is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, providing meals for anyone who comes through their doors.
“We also offer clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We rely completely on volunteer doctors and nurses, and we are open from 5 p.m. until the last patient is treated,” said David Tapscott, the Clinic Director for Metro Ministries. “We provide medication and treatment for simple things, but we can’t treat big things, like a broken leg.”

“And there are no big prescription drugs in our closet,” Ramirez added, “so if someone comes here looking to fuel an addiction, this isn’t the place.” The media represents the face of homelessness as that of a middle-aged man, but the average age of a homeless person is nine years old. Metro Ministries is working to change that statistic and to change the face of homelessness for the City of Corpus Christi. Nueces County is one of four counties in the state to have “coordinated access,” which means that the system is actively working to help those in it to move through faster and reducing the number of people who enter in the first place. Metro Ministries is actively trying to help those who come through their doors find success. For instance, all residents at Metro Ministries (there are two different residence wings—a men’s wing and a wing for women and children) are required to meet with a case manager. “You tell us what you want to do with your life,” Ramirez shared, “and we’ll help you get there.” People who live in the housing must be working and saving 70% of their income so that they have savings to use when they leave to get them back on their feet. “We’re about stopping that process,” Ramirez continued. “We’re encouraging transformation.” And with that transformation, Metro Ministries has watched many of the people who came through their doors soar. Just recently, they watched one of their former residents finally get their own home. The business of changing lives is an exciting one. And Metro Ministries doesn’t plan on leaving it any time soon. This is the place of second chances.

C
orpus Christi native Julie Mintz gave up the Gulf Coast for the West Coast a few years ago but never really left it behind. Although she still resides in Los Angeles, singing backup and playing keys for multi-Grammy award wining artist Moby, her debut EP is characterized by her South Texas upbringing. Mintz’ EP, “The Thin Veil,” is comprised of four original songs and a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Lodi.” Moby produced all songs himself, and released the album May 5. She considers her style as Gothic Americana with hints of old country artists she grew up listening to like Patsy Cline.
Mintz met band member and producer Moby by chance while living in L.A. One day she walked out to her driveway as one of Moby’s friends was trying to sneak away, because he had just blocked her car in. Acknowledging that he had been caught, he tried to make amends by inviting her to the party across the street. Mintz, after repeated pleading from the man, finally agreed to go with him. Turns out Moby was her neighbor having the party.

“I ended up meeting Moby and he was so friendly, and because I was his neighbor he thought we should exchange emails. So he would invite me over to have tea and do yoga and apparently he found out I was a songwriter.”

“I’ve been writing songs for years before I even met Moby and started playing with him,” Mintz said. “He really encouraged me to make a record, and we started going through all of these old songs I had written in my bedroom late at night and he helped me choose what songs he thought were the best.”
Moby started inviting her over for song-writing sessions before asking her to accompany him and his band as they performed on late night talk shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien. She also played numerous sold out shows with Moby in front of thousands of fans.

The title of her EP references Mintz’ battle with insomnia, which she’s struggled with her whole life and also lead to her writing most of her 60-song catalogue.
Leading up to the release of “The Thin Veil,” Mintz seems relaxed and still very humbled about everything she’s accomplished over the years. She’s been filming music videos for her songs and booking shows for the EP’s release.
“I do a lot of my writing late at night,” Mintz added. “There’s sort of a theory about the world between the living and the dead, some people call it the conscious realm and the spirit realm, and that veil is lifted in the middle of the night. That’s when we have greater intuition and creativity.”
36 the bend magazine
“I want to make a full length album next. I just want to make more music, and if there’s an audience, tour and play shows.” Mintz returns home to headline artRageous: Myths and Legands on June 13 at the Art Museum of South Texas.

John Olvey spent 40 years as a competitive surfer, although his love for the board has morphed into a new infatuation: Upcycling vintage surfboards. In 1999, the “Surfin’ Art” exhibit at the Museum of South Texas opened and John renewed his passion for surf art. Best known for his painted surfboards, John creates one-of-a-kind, hand carved, deeply sculpted images of the coastal surf scene, with gleaming finishes sometimes accented by mirrored backgrounds, stone, wood and glass. John breathes new life into old boards. Obviously inspired by the surf itself, John also has committed his artistic expressions to canvas, murals, and tropical furniture. His dream project is to create a City Sculpture using 30 or more vintage surfboards to depict the DNA of a surfer. Today, John is one of the few artists in the world creating sculptures from surfboards. To top it off, he contributes his talents to many fundraising and surfing related events, making him a top charitable artist in Corpus. Righteous!
Soft, smooth, warm, flowing…these probably aren’t words you’d typically use to describe a rough piece of wood. But Sculptor Harry Angel works his magic and transforms it. Raised in the Amish country of Pennsylvania, Harry was brought up to build everything from scratch, learning his woodworking skills early in life. His style of sculpting is simple, free-style, where he strives to follow the contours and deformities as much as possible. Harry’s inspiration comes from the challenge of carving mesquite. It’s fraught with flaws, and this sculptor employs his skills to enhance these flaws. He’ll often use the natural edge of the tree to give a natural or rustic look and feel. Harry does custom projects, too. He’s constantly cutting logs and coming across unique wood for one-of-a-kind projects. Harry sometimes uses semi-precious stone inlay to add color to a project. Using his garage as his shop, and the ocean and music as his sculptor’s rhythm, Harry wants to keep society “awed.”

Neva Rossi-Smoll Occupation: Lead Right of Way Agent – AEP Transmission Currently Based: Corpus Christi Medium: Pastel Exhibits: Art Association of Corpus Christi, Art Center
of Corpus Christi, Austin Pastel Society, Pastel Society of America – New York, Pastel 100 Competition, First Annual International Contemporary Art Exhibition – Assisi, Italy
From the time Neva was a teenager, she’s had a paintbrush or ink pen in her hand. Her camera is yet another extension of her artistic hand, and she is constantly taking photos of her travels and surroundings. These photos often become the catalyst for her art, whether her medium is watercolor, oils, inks, graphite, or most recently, pastels. Since 2009, Neva has received countless awards and recognitions, both in Texas and abroad. One of Neva’s most rewarding accomplishments is winning an Honorable Mention award at the Pastel 100 Competition in Assisi, Italy, for a piece titled “Magdalena,” a woman whom she photographed at an ancient festival called Calendimaggio. Due to her paintings portraying this ancient celebration, Neva has been invited to return back to Assisi this year for their First Annual International Contemporary Art Exhibition. This versatile artist captures emotion in her subject’s faces, movement in stills, and turns the everyday occurrence into extraordinary beauty.
Dinah Bowman Occupation: Artist/Illustrator Studio: 312 5th Ave. Portland, Texas 78374 Medium: Gyotaku, watercolor, acrylic, color pencil, pen and ink, block printing, collage Style: Realism, abstract realism, biological illustration Exhibits: Smithsonian Institution – Washington DC, Gyotaku Invitational – Japan, Kerr Arts and Cultural Center – Kerrville, TX Dinah Bowman is most well-known for her mastery of the art technique called “”gyotaku.” This is the art of inking a fish and then making an artistic replica of the fish on paper or cloth. Dinah was studying Marine Biology in Japan in the late ‘60s when she saw the technique being demonstrated at an upscale department store. “Fish-Rubbing” stuck, and she brought it back to the states with her and opened a gallery in 1979 with fishes of the Gulf of Mexico. Since she’s been a professional artist, her themes and media evolve to keep her and her collections fresh and interesting, but the underlying current is always related to fish and nature. She’s keen on studying other artists and their techniques and sometimes taking that expertise and transforming it into her own. The role an artist plays in society, Dinah believes, is to instill wonder and enhance the life of the viewer visually and emotionally. Dinah’s main goal? “Keep on keeping on!”

Festival in Houston, Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, Corpus Christi Art Center, Island Joe’s Coffee and Gallery
Bryan Tumlinson is a full-service commercial advertising and fine art photographer who has been fortunate enough to travel the globe for 28 years in search of the perfect photo. He has over 80,000 different stock photos in house and many can be found lining the walls of his coffee shop, Island Joe’s Coffee and Gallery located on Padre Island. Bryan’s photography has won numerous top awards nationally and internationally. But perhaps Bryan’s most rewarding tribute to society is his charity work. He works with a lot of non-profits in Dominican Republic where 10% of all photo sales is plowed back into a feed program he’s helped set up. It provides food to 500 people a week. He pursues themes that inspire him, such as the ocean and South America. But, Bryan dreams of traveling the world for one year and taking non-stop photos, as “God has created a beautiful world for us where there’s beauty all over.” With that, Bryan’s creative advice is to just keep it simple.

Noël Parker is more than just a painter. She makes jewelry, furniture, frames for her paintings, and wood crosses decorated with artifacts she finds from the ocean bottom. Using reclaimed wood, relics from the beach and ocean, and the Bend’s wonderful birding scene, mother nature is really Noël’s best resource. No single piece is alike, so every buyer has a one-of-a-kind creation, found nowhere else. Although Noël is mainly self taught, she did study art at Del Mar for two years. Nature, birds, water, and everyday coastal surroundings inspire her creations. Her favorite piece is a very large Pelican, whom her client named “McGee.” Noël has the unique ability to paint the bird feathers with such detail and realism that you can almost feel their soft texture and quill. When Noël isn’t kicking it at the gym or expressing her imagination onto a canvas, you can most certainly find her waterfront, or rather, diving underneath it.

Heather Macrae Stringer
Diane Weiner
Occupation: Jewelry Designer Currently Based: Padre Island Studio: Home Medium: Jewelry made from semiprecious gem-
Occupation: Retired Elementary School Counselor Currently Based: Corpus Christi Studio: Home Medium:
stones, pearls, raw diamonds, antique lace, Polynesian rope, wire and chain Style: Island jewelry and minimalist beauty Exhibits: Schlitterbahn Art Walk, Home and Gallery Trunk Shows, Cypress Tree and Board House in Port Aransas, Art for the People and Prima Dora in Austin, TX
Cloth/paper fusion, free motion embroidery water color, sculptural pieces from polymer clay, jewelry, acrylic paints, handmade papers, collage oil pastels Exhibits: Art Center of Corpus Christi, Aurora Theatre
Heather founded her jewelry company, Tula Blue (which means Balance) upon returning to Corpus Christi after 7 years living in Hawaii. Many of her pieces are ocean inspired and perfect for beach living. They’re waterproof, gender and age neutral, and can be worn all day, every day. Her other collections are made with semi-precious gemstones and metals, pearls, raw diamonds, antique lace and other materials when they spark her interest. Heather has a huge collection of stones and sometimes gets inspired by the piece and thinks “what could I do with that?” She’d love a permanent local space to display and sell her collections, showcasing her belief that the integral work of an artist is through pure love of the craft, hard word, and dedication. “At the end of the day, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.” Heather is going for it, and has enduring support from her husband and their three energetic boys.
As an evolving artist, Diane Weiner has a respect and passion for the medium itself, which she fabricates with paper and cloth and wallpaper paste. True earthly pieces of art, Diane finds inspiration through breathing, her emotions, happenstance – turning into her inner soul for self expression. Diane took art classes at Del Mar in the late ‘70s with the late Joseph Cain (Corpus Christi artist, of both national and international acclaim). All of her new fiber pieces have turned into her favorites to date. She intertwines ferns between layers, and they are translucent, gorgeous hanging in front of a window. The stitching used creates tiny holes that sparkle when the sunlight beams through. Fellow artist Jenifer Hartsfield Pichinson once advised Diane to “trust the process, give a piece time to evolve.” As an artist in the Corpus Christi art scene, Diane aims to inspire, lead the way, and teach by example.

Kate Browning Word Occupation: Retired Cosmetologist Currently Based: Corpus Christi Studio: Home Medium: Mixed-media collage, photography, digital art Style: Abstract Exhibits: City
Gallery at City Church, Stingers Coffee
Art is in Kate Browning Word’s blood. She began drawing and painting at an early age and attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX where her Fine Art concentrations were in textiles and painting. Kate’s passion lies in creating mixed-media collages using used coffee filters and discharged/dyed fabrics. She also is a skilled photographer and will print her images on inkjet transparencies and incorporate them into her collage. Kate has a true talent for playing with patterns, contrasting colors, and contrasting textures. She was once told “Everything has already been painted and nobody cares. When you can totally embrace this, you can paint freely.” Art is more than just a hobby or something Kate does – it is who she is. Much of her work resides in Texas, but some of her silk ikat textiles now live on in Kyoto, Japan, Baltimore, MD, Franklin, TN and numerous other places. We are given color, shape, sound…unveiling these impressions is the “word” Kate hopes to share.

Port Aransas, N.Y. Joe’s Authentic Italian – Corpus Christi, Third Coast Spray Tanning – Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi Art Walk
Cameron Walls is as bright and vibrant as his art. His love for art and water has been with him as long as he can remember. Cameron grew up surfing and sailing and has always had a strong connection to the ocean. He began painting as a child, and in third grade his drawing of a dog was chosen and displayed at the state capital! Cameron continued to paint and draw though high school, but just this past October picked up his brushes again with definite proof of talent, passion, and professionalism. His obsession with sunsets has given his life purpose and dedication: To painting the perfect sunset. And living on his 36-foot sailboat gives Cameron the perfect front row view to the best Coastal Sunsets around! He’ll copy pictures and add elements like sailboats or lighthouses. He has also started a tradition of hiding a fish symbol in the art. This idea was borrowed from Thomas Kinkade, only he used his wife’s initials. “I do what I do because I believe the world looks that much more beautiful with a bit of wild color. Interrupting images is what keeps me going.” And he’s going to do that, so save a seat next to Guy Harvey, Cameron is going to continue to paint.

Flint Reed and Jill Reed Occupation: Artists Studio: Mustang Island Art Gallery Medium: Oil painting (Flint) and Pottery (Jill) Style: Impressionist oil painter with a realistic style Exhibits: Mus-
tang Island Art Gallery
Flint and Jill Reed are the owners of the Mustang Island Art Gallery. Flint, having served as a Navy Carrier Pilot for 6 years in the ‘50s, moved to Spain to study art. Since then, he’s been a member of the art world for 40 plus years - Flint is a painter, and, as wife Jill puts it, “if you can’t beat them, join them!” She’s a potter. During their art adventures, inspirations for his paintings come from their worldly travels and observations. They have been involved with exhibits throughout the U.S., as well as internationally. But the most outstanding accomplishment to date is Flint’s landscape paintings titled “On the Guadalupe River” that was presented and accepted by President and Laura Bush for inclusion in the White House collection. In 1991, Flint was included in “Who’s Who in American Art.” This honor was a contributing factor to their decision to open their own fine art gallery in Port Aransas in 2006.

Julia Curran Occupation: Visual Artist Currently Based: Corpus Christi Studio: Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi Medium:
Printmaking (silkscreen, woodcut), collage, sculpture, performance Style: Children’s book from hell Exhibits: “The World is Yours” displayed at K-Space Contemporary Gallery – Corpus Christi, Dope Chapel – Norman, OK, Dulce Olivia Gallery – Mexico City, Mexico
Growing up in the diverse community of St. Louis, Missouri and living abroad, Julia Curran has formed a unique view on society that is portrayed loudly and colorfully through her prints and collages. Her work is a satirical deconstruction of American pop-culture and socio-political history, and how fear and the desires to own and to control drive hyper-masculinity and hyper-consumption. Party Boy, Julia’s main muse, is half human, half donkey. Party Boy helps demonstrate awareness, introspection, and to not take oneself too seriously. Julia finds inspiration through history, current events, and most importantly, humor. As an artist and printmaker, Julia believes her job is to not only create socially conscious art, but to work to make fine art accessible to people as a tool of self-expression. The Corpus Christi art scene is not huge, Julia points out, and so there are vast opportunities to do new things and everybody is going to welcome and support it, we hope!

Padre Island
National Seashore Latitude & Longitude: 27.424332, -97.299256
Little Shell, Big Shell If you want to find your own secret beach, scope out a spot at the Padre Island National Seashore. Enter the gate; pay the fee and drive about 15 miles. Look to your left, to your right, no one in sight, it’s yours. Take a dip in the gulf, fish, and bird watch or pretend you are one of the survivors of a shipwreck who found refuge on this lovely island in 1554. You’re likely to enjoy the peace and quiet of your private beach area, but if you hear a tremendous boom it may be ghosts of past aiming for the bombing targets! There were seven targets on the island when a Navy bombing range existed on the northern section of the island from World War II to 1960. But today you can enjoy the tranquility and an abundance of wildlife. More than 350 species of birds have been found at this national seashore, including 13 threatened and endangered bird species like the reddish egrets. This island is also home to Kemp’s ridley sea turtles. Wade into the surf for some fishing. The depth between sand bars here can be eight feet, which makes a good habitat for game fish. Trout, croaker, pompano, permit, reds and blacktip shark can be hooked off this long strip of beach. As sunset shimmers off the waves, you might spot a coyote searching the beach for food or spy a flash of the black-tailed jackrabbit who sleeps in the tall island grass during the hot day, but at night it roams about and can run up to 40mph. Whatever you discover on your own secret beach will be wondrous. Directions to: Drive South on Park Road 22 until you’re stopped by the National Seashore gate. Pay the fee or show the rangers your membership sicker, and enter to enjoy the 70 mile coastline and nature preserves.

Wild West
Beach Latitude & Longitude: 27.557966, -97.232952
Cowboy’s Playground A few miles of beach stretched out between Bob Hall Pier and The Padre Island National Seashore is no man’s land. Until recently, this area of beach was not under the jurisdiction of Nueces County and sits in Kleberg County. With the sovereign located in an adjacent county, this area of beach was unsupervised. Popular activities here include surf fishing, target shooting, four-wheeling and nude sun bathing “The Bowl” is a circle of sand dunes where four-wheel drivers negotiate unstable terrain in their vehicles. Head a little farther down from the Bowl and find shooters perfecting their aim on various targets. The next stretch of beach is home to surf fishermen. Past this area, near Padre Island National Seashore is supposedly a “Nude Beach.” Directions to: Head South on Park Road 22 until you reach Beach Access Road 6. Take a left and continue south once you hit the beach. Bob Hall to your left, Wild West Beach to your right.
Party Beach Latitude & Longitude: 27.588755, -97.244904
The Ski Canals Obviously, with such a name as “Party Beach,” this beach is no major secret. From September to May for local islanders it’s a secluded, quiet beach that is only reachable by boat. This marshy finger inlet settled in as one of the canals dredged for development many years ago. Posts for volleyball are staked and a few benches strewn about but rarely a soul in sight. Venture further inland along mucky ground to sight a Great Blue Heron stalking its prey in the shallow water. Relax in the solitude and beauty of the marsh. During tourist season this secret beach is discovered by boaters that jam pack the nearby water ski basin. The volleyball net is strung up and the aptly named “Party Beach” is in full swing. Directions to: By boat only – if coming from the Intracoastal, travel South until you hit the Padre Island Yacht Club on your left. Steer your boat past the club, and another 1000 feet or so you’ll swing your first right past the wetlands. Follow the noise to the party.

Sunset Lake Beach Latitude & Longitude: 27.863909, -97.338481
Sunset Lake Among wetland habitats and coastal marsh lies several beachy areas along Sunset Lake in Portland. Pick out your favorite patch of beach, gather the family under a sunshade for a picnic, and enjoy the breeze. You can settle in the sand with your beach chair near the water’s edge. Choose a cozy area nestled between island grasses and orange and yellow wildflowers or spread out on a vast expanse of sand that juts out into the water. This saltwater lake is positioned within Sunset Lake Park located between Hwy 181 and Corpus Christi Bay. Running through the middle of the ecologically rich inlets is a two mile hike/bike trail. The lake is a great place for fishing, kite boarding, canoeing and kayaking. Bird watching at the park is ideal. View pictures of numerous species of birds on the nature interpretation boardwalks then set out to spot them. REINVENTING THE WHEEL North Beach Lights Up with Entrepreneur’s Vision Words: gary s. whitford Photos: Rachel Durrent
Breezes of change are blowing across North Beach as businesses start up, spruce up, and bring excitement back to a historic beach. Former oil and gas globetrotter Lynn Frazier has come home with big ideas, inspiring new energy between th-e bays.
“IF WE BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME.”

“IT’S AMAZING - HOTELS AND OTHER PLACES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD HAVE REALLY STEPPED UP THEIR GAME SINCE WE’VE COME IN. THINGS ARE GETTING MOWED, TREES ARE GETTING TRIMMED, THINGS ARE GETTING TAKEN CARE OF.”
s Lynn Frazier, owner of Fajitaville, pursues his vision, North Beach will be transformed to the 21st century version of its former glory long before the new Harbor Bridge lands in 2020. “I traveled the world for 18 years in the oil & gas business,” Frazier said, “Africa, South America, Australia, the Caribbean – I saw a lot of beaches, with bars and restaurants right on the beach. Everyone seemed to be having a really good time, and I thought we might be able to bring that back to Corpus Christi. With Fajitaville, we are creating a beach quina atmosphere, a place where families can have fun.” Known in the 1800s as Rincon Point, North Beach was home to everything from military bases to rendering plants. Starting in the Roaring ‘20s, North Beach evolved to host entertainment attractions such as Pleasure Park, the Saltwater Pool and The Ship, an old sailing vessel turned into a popular dance club. Those initial developments recovered parts of North Beach from the destruction wreaked by hurricanes in 1913 and 1916. Cousins, Bruce Collins Sr. and John Mosser, built the popular
attractions. Like Frazier, they invested their own money in their ventures.
bright colors seem to be part of Frazier’s beach quina identity.
North Beach continued drawing visitors for decades, rebuilding after another hurricane in 1933. Many people learned to swim in the Saltwater Pool, and old-timers remember dancing under the stars on The Ship. In the early ‘30s, the Skyrocket roller coaster roared along the coast. Restaurants, tourist courts, hotels and even illegal gambling venues drew daily crowds of as many as 20,000 people to what would become one of the most popular beach attractions in the American South.
Frazier brought the brightly colored ferris wheel to his restaurant in December, getting state certification. Initially, city business development administrators told him no other permits were needed but then decided that Fajitaville’s zoning did not allow for the amusement ride. An unworkable web of temporary permits were discussed, then Frazier applied for a zoning change. City planning commissioners and city council members received the application warmly. “One of the ladies stood up and applauded,” Frazier said. Council has approved the rezoning request, and the ferris wheel is turning.
Frazier is too young to remember the glory days of North Beach, but his grandmother had many stories. For decades, people crossed to and from North Beach on a drawbridge. When the bridge was raised to accommodate a passing ship, long lines of traffic would form. Frazier’s grandmother told him people would get tired of waiting, and divert over to Pleasure Park for a rollercoaster ride or dine at one of the many food venues until the drawbridge reopened and lines became more manageable. As he built the three-story Fajitaville three years ago, Frazier also upgraded another North Beach standard, Marinaville. The bait shop and snack bar got a new pier, a sorely-needed fish cleaning station and a bright new coat of paint –
Carolyn Vaughn, the new council member representing District 1, which includes North Beach, is one of the city officials that recognizes Frazier’s contribution. “I wish every one of the little communities in that area had a Lynn Frazier. I’m glad to see some of the things he has done. We need somebody with a vision. We need somebody with initiative to take action, and thank goodness he does,” Vaughn said. Frazier is negotiating for 4 acres just north of Fajitaville to use for a few more rides. “We already have volleyball and

games. We want to put in some simple rides, nothing elaborate. We want to bring a nostalgic, old-school theme, a place where families can have a lot of fun at the beach.” One machine already under construction hearkens Blackbeard’s days. “One of the other things I’m working on right now is a vehicle that looks like a pirate ship with pirate flags; it’s going to be a big long trailer. People can be seatbelted in and it won’t go more than 15 miles an hour and it will be like a trolley service. In fact, we’re going to call it the Trolley Roger,” Frazier said. Carrie Reynolds Meyer, professional photographer and president of the North Beach Owners Association, admires Frazier’s investment, ideas, and support of the neighborhood. “Lynn Frazier has helped change the perception of North Beach from bad to good. When I used to tell people I lived on North Beach, they would give me kind of a funny look. Now, they nod and comment, ‘There’s a lot going on, isn’t there?’ And there is – from the Exxon station sprucing up to new restaurants, North Beach is really happening.” Meyer says that North Beach improvements are changing demographics in a good way. “A brighter North Beach is good for tourism, but it’s also a fun thing for locals. It’s attracting a lot of young adults and tying the residential area together with the beach. That’s
not just good for North Beach, it’s good for Corpus Christi.” Frazier takes some credit for inspiring his neighbors. “It’s amazing - hotels and other places in the neighborhood have really stepped up their game since we’ve come in. Things are getting mowed, trees are getting trimmed, things are getting taken care of,” he said. And the ferris wheel is already showing results on the balance sheet. “Our revenues over the same period in the last two years are significantly up. A ferris wheel is pretty good for attracting business.” As you stand at the Fajitaville beach bar during lunchtime, a cool breeze blows in from the bay. Ask the bartender and she will tell you how refreshing the breeze can be on a hot Texas day. It’s been part of North Beach since Native Americans stretched buffalo hides over the oyster reefs to cross the channel between Nueces and Corpus Christi bays. The feeling of a beach breeze echoes through the years – you can imagine families getting started as young lovers danced to big band music on The Ship, as youngsters learned to swim in the saltwater pond. As Fajitaville’s ferris wheel pauses with your car at the top, you get a glimpse of Lynn Frazier’s world – a wide open horizon out across the bay, a limitless future of family entertainment and growth for North Beach.

romantic evening full of sophistication and elegance was what this couple envisioned for their special day. Lush floral and candlelight set the scene at the ceremony and reception of Courtney Cotten and Travis Pollard. With colors of soft ivory, blush pink and grey, the vision was set for the sunny May evening of fun with friends and family. The ceremony took place at the Bride’s home church, Riverhills Baptist Church. As guests took their seats to a symphony of strings, the Bridesmaids waited in the wings and excited flower girls waited anxiously to take their turn. As the strings played the wedding party took their places as the church doors opened to the beautiful Bride and her Father as they walked down the aisle through a sea of adoring faces. A short trip was made to the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Center in Kingsville for the reception as cocktails were served as guests arrived. Appetizers were served from personalized trays and on the patio a refreshing pink lemonade bar was available for guests as well. Lemonade was served with grey striped straws with fresh berries. Passed appetizers were all around as servers presented jumbo shrimp cocktail in single shot glasses for guests to enjoy until dinner time. The wedding party made a quick planned stop at a private residence for formal pictures. Dinner was served as food stations showcased an abundance of fare. Guests enjoyed dinner on the patio under the lit cover surrounded by a lush garden landscape. Inside the

Guests also found a dessert bar with monogrammed cookies, almond macaroons and cupcakes. It was not long before there was not a sweet left in sight as guests made their way around the dessert bar. The Bride and her Father swirled and twirled on the dance floor to Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely.” It was a moment to remember. The guests could not wait to hit the dance floor as the Drywater Band from Houston was so inviting. The band’s energy flowed through the evening as the music kept coming and the guests never missed a beat. When it was time for the Bride and Groom to part, a beautiful bubble exit created a memory of a lifetime. Guests lined the foyer as Courtney and Travis held hands through the crowd and stopped for a kiss as all the guests cheered through the dancing bubbles floating through the air. It was a beautiful night for a beautiful couple! The couple just celebrated their First Anniversary and reside in Corpus Christi.

his Key Allegro home was an impressive contemporary gem when it was built in the late ‘90’s, but it soared to new heights with a bold, creative expansion and renovation in 2014. The owner’s quest was for larger entertaining areas, additional guest accommodations and more extensive wall space for an ever-growing art collection. With builder Raggy Loy at the helm, multiple open courtyards and space above the 2-vehicle garage were incorporated into the existing design, creating an artful oasis with gallery-style ambiance. The splendid transformation substantially increased the square footage, to include a dramatic 2-story great room, handsome library and an apartment-style guest suite replete with an auxiliary kitchen. Adding a punctuation mark to the ambitious project, the broadened wall space embraced a calabash of vivid canvases acquired by the owners on trips to Carmel, Santa Fe, Taos and cities and villages throughout Europe.
A library was added as a place to check in with the office, if you must!
Majestic double entry doors bid welcome, replacing an iron gate that once opened to a huge front courtyard. Brilliantly conceived and crowned with an intricate 2-story ceiling, the former courtyard is now a stunning great room brimming with a sophisticated aura for stylish entertaining. Ideally situated, a clubstyle antique bar, which once graced Corpus Christi’s Driskill Hotel, embellishes the entertaining areas. A second living area overlooks a swimming pool and terrace basking in forever views of Aransas Bay; and at every turn, paintings from a variety of national and international coasts add magic to the incom68 the bend magazine

parable atmosphere. Designed for gourmet chefs, the state-of-the-art first floor kitchen boasts a vivid red custom backsplash that adds a dash of spice to lively gatherings. Depicting carefree days at the beach, two of the home’s guest rooms, with en-suite baths, blend a seaside decor with works by area artists. An architecturally inspired circular staircase, as well as an elevator, ascend to the upper level, where the owners enjoy a world unto itself. Serene and private, the master bedroom suite encompasses a luxurious bath and exercise/spa room. An upper living room and full kitchen complement the owner’s wing, and a spacious terrace captures panoramic views of the bay and downtown Rockport. Overlooking the great room, an exquisite library is a regal 4th living area with walls of bookcases and classic furnishings to enunciate the elegance. Just steps away, an additional guest suite includes an en-suite bath and full kitchen, where visitors can enjoy early morning coffee or late night snacks. When the 5-month construction period began, the owner’s vision was a kaleidoscope of expectations room for all the family, for memory-making weekends, multiple living areas to entertain cherished friends and spacious walls and high ceilings to display the paintings that permanently imprint recollections of travel adventures. At journey’s end, this Key Allegro residence is a masterpiece of coastal living brushed with broad strokes of ingenuity and imagination.

he Vacation Rentals industry is worth an estimated $85 billion.
Why do so many travelers choose vacation rental properties? 9 in 10 leisure travelers rate “value for the price” as the primary motivation to rent a vacation home.* Many choose vacation homes for the sense of privacy, the convenience of a home-like kitchen and more living space, as well as, the comfort of being under one roof rather than multiple hotel rooms. Many travelers to the Corpus Christi area are realizing the benefits of staying in a vacation rental property. At the same time, many who own second homes in the area are looking to generate income by renting their property out to travelers. Putting these two groups together is where property management companies like Padre Escapes can help. ooking for a great hiking location in Corpus Christi? Look no further than the Harbor Bridge. Once a month, a group of health-minded adventurers set off on a 3.42 mile round-trip trek across the Harbor Bridge and back.
water and surrounding architecture greet the walkers at the top of the bridge. The USS Lexington, Texas State Aquarium and Art Museum of South Texas can all be seen. For those who may not be fond of heights, an alternative, land-only route through the downtown waterfront area exists.
Alan Albin, founder of the harbor Bridge Walk, initially desired to walk the bridge during his first visit to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1998. Bolstered by his mother-in-law’s encouragement, he and about five friends and family finally made that happen on January 1, 2010. Word spread, others became interested, and a group formed. Temporarily sidelined during bridge repairs, the walk across the bridge has been a monthly event since November 2011. As Special Projects Coordinator for The Corpus Christi Downtown Management District, Albin organizes and leads each Bridge Walk. The Harbor Bridge Walk occurs 13 times a year, held once a month on the Sunday following First Friday Art Walk in addition to a special New Year’s Day walk.
Yoga, Tai Chi and Zumba are also offered at Heritage Park the same day as the walk.

Besides helping with data, registration on Eventbrite also automatically enters the walker into the drawing for a $50-$70 health and wellness prize given away each month at the walk. For those who like to commemorate exercise milestones, a Bridge Walk t-shirt can be obtained after completing five months of Bridge Walk exercises. Taking part in either a walk across the bridge or an exercise class held at Heritage Park earns a stamp. One stamp can be earned a month. Participants who acquire five stamps, thus exercising for five months, receive a free Harbor Bridge Walk t-shirt. Months do not have to be consecutive, but more than one stamp cannot be earned in a month.
Approximately 150-300 people a month traverse the Harbor Bridge on Bridge Walk day, with many regular attendees. To date, almost 8,000 people have crossed the Harbor Bridge with Albin.
The Harbor Bridge Walk is about to reach a new landmark. The 50th bridge walk will take place on June 7th of this year.
To join the Bridge Walk, Albin encourages participants to visit the Bridge Walk website and register for the event via Eventbrite. Registration is not compulsory, however.
“It all started as a fond wish, which turned into a family deal, which wound up being advertised on the television, which drew the attention of the city’s mayor…and it’s just gone from there, becoming quite popular,” Albin says.
“We encourage people to register for the Bridge Walk so we have statistics and we know what to expect each

Summer Skin Tips HAVE FUN OUTSIDE THIS SUMMER, BUT BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR SKIN FROM THOSE HARMFUL RAYS.
Did You Know? Sunburn happens when your skin is burned by ultraviolet (UV) radiation. You can even get burnt on a cloudy day because UV light can travel through clouds. In a year’s time, sunburn affects more than 70% of children and 30% of adults. Even though most sunburns are not severe, frequent sunburns significantly increase your risk of developing wrinkles, skin cancer, cataracts, and other cosmetic concerns. Some people are more prone to sunburn such as people with fair skin and light colored hair and can develop a sunburn in less than 15 minutes. Sunscreen can expire! If it doesn’t have an expiration date, don’t keep it for more than 3 years.

CUISINE FARM TO TABLE .85 FOOD DIRECTORY .87 THE DISH - POPCORN ETC..89
GUEST CHEF KAREY LYNN BUTTERWORTH GLUTEN-FREE FRIED CHICKEN WITH SQUASH BLOSSOM QUESADILLAS Karey Lynn Butterworth, chef and owner of GLOW in Rockport, visits with us through the serving window as she works in the kitchen. The dining room is drenched in sunlight and smells wonderfully of her cooking. Chef Karey is completely at home here; the restaurant feels like home. We invited Chef Karey to design a recipe for Farm to Table, and she instantly knew what she wanted to prepare: fried chicken. Chef Karey brings an eclectic mix of styles to her cooking. She grew up in the Woodlands, just north of Houston, and the downhome current of Texas runs through all of her dishes. Fried chicken makes perfect sense. She has also worked as a chef in New York and Yorkshire, England. Manhattan and Notting Hill are also reflected in her cooking, as seen here in the elegance of the freshly-picked squash blossoms. Chef Karey told us that Spain and Sweden had a great impact on her style. The salsa verde mayonnaise recipe is Spain itself expressed through local ingredients. The architecture of GLOW, with its simplicity and clean lines, would fit easily into a cobblestone lane in Stockholm.
Karey updates her menu six times per year to reflect local seasonal ingredients and seafood. Her menu design is a balancing act between what she is passionate about and what her customers want. Listening to her guests inspired the gluten-free touch to the fried chicken. “If you are using raw ingredients that are as fresh as possible, you can’t mess it up,” said Chef Karey. The squash blossoms, tomatoes, and other ingredients were freshly picked from the garden. She warns against over-complicating a recipe with too many ingredients. She points out that the squash blossom quesadilla only contains five ingredients--and once you taste it, you know that is all it needs. For Chef Karey, food is emotional. “How your mom cooked, how your grandmother cooked, is very important to your connection with food,” she said. “Food triggers memories; tastes, smells. Good food can take you home.” These recipes by Chef Karey are simple, fresh, and exquisitely delicious. Whether you prefer the downhome flavor of Texas, or the sophisticated tastes of Europe, this food will take you home.

SQUASH BLOSSOM QUESADILLA WITH GARDEN SQUASH BLOSSOM QUESADILLA WITH GLUTEN-FREE FRIEDDE GALLO GARDEN TOMATO PICO TOMATO PICO DE GALLO CHICKEN WITH SALSA Serves: 6 Directions VERDE MAYONNAISE Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes Ingredients: 12 squash blossoms 6 corn tortillas (preferably 6-inch) 1 cup Texas goat cheese (we used Lone Star Chevre from Cleveland, TX.) 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro leaves, chopped Freshly ground black pepper, to taste Pico de gallo: 6 garden cherry tomatoes, sliced into rounds 1 tablespoon finely chopped shallot 1 teaspoon finely chopped jalapeno, seeds removed 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro leaves, chopped juice from one lime sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Carefully inspect the squash blossoms and brush off any dirt you might find. Carefully remove the stems and stamens. The blossoms are very delicate, so try not to wash them.
Warm a cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Place a tortilla in the warm pan and heat, turning once, for about 15 seconds on each side to soften. Spoon 2 tablespoons of cheese, 1/2 teaspoon cilantro, and some pepper on half the tortilla. Place 2 squash blossoms on top of the cheese, arranging the flower petals at the edge of the tortilla so they show slightly. Fold the tortilla in half and press down lightly. Cook for about 1 minute, then flip and cook the other side for 1 minute more, until the tortilla is warmed through and the cheese has melted. Transfer the quesadilla to a plate and repeat to make 5 more squash blossom quesadillas. Mix together pico de gallo ingredients in small bowl. Serve warm with pico de gallo spooned over.

Serves: 6
Directions
Prep time: 2.5 hours
Mix the milk with the peppercorns, bay leaf, garlic and sea salt. Place the chicken pieces in a baking dish and pour the mix mixture over. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight. Remove the chicken from the milk and pat dry with paper towels. Season with sea salt and pepper.
Cook time: 45 minutes Ingredients: 3 -4 pounds cut up chicken pieces 1 cup milk 1 teaspoon peppercorns 1 bay leaf 1 clove garlic 1 teaspoon sea salt 1 teaspoon pepper 2 eggs, lightly beaten 2/3 cup gluten free all-purpose flour ½ teaspoon sea salt ½ teaspoon ground black pepper 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon smoked Spanish paprika 4 tablespoons peanut oil or grape seed oil
Salsa Verde Mayonnaise 1 cup mayonnaise juice of 2 lemons 1 tablespoon chopped capers 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil or mint sea salt and pepper to taste
Combine the gluten free all-purpose flour with the salt, pepper, garlic powder and smoked paprika. Mix together and put on a baking sheet. In a small bowl, lightly beat the two eggs. Bread the chicken by coating it first with the flour mixture then shake off excess flour and dip in the egg mixture, then dip back into the flour mixture shaking off excess again. Set aside on a baking sheet. Repeat for all of the chicken pieces. Heat enough oil in a cast iron skillet to medium until the skillet is completely hot.
[the lifestyle magazine of the coastal bend}
Carefully place breaded chicken on the hot skillet and allow them to cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side (longer if the chicken is thick), or until crispy and cooked through. Internal temperature of the chicken should be 160 degrees F. You can finish the thicker pieces in the oven if required. While chicken is in the oven, stir all of the salsa verde ingredients together in a small bowl and store in refrigerator. Serve the pan fried chicken with a green salad and a side of salsa verde. Lovely served with the Cinsault Rose from William Chris Vineyards in Hye, Texas.

Popcorn Etc. 5230 Kostoryz Road #2, Corpus Christi, TX 78415 (361) 851.0372 www.popcorn-etc.com
90 the bend magazine
opcorn Etc. is reminiscent of a high-end crystal store, with sparkling, vibrant colors, glossy and shimmering shapes. The difference is, crystals don’t smell or taste like the gourmet popcorn made here. Popcorn Etc. currently has over 25 savory, sweet, spicy, and seasonal flavors right at your popcorn-loving, sticky fingertips. Owner Jannell Ormand has been frequenting the store since she was a child and became addicted to these delicious morsels then, creating memories so fond that she couldn’t resist the chance to own the joyful joint in 2007! It’s truly a family business - almost each family member has had their hand in helping or working at the shop at some point. After multiple locations, Ormand settled into her new location on Kostoryz this past February. Still using the same 20+ year-old popcorn and candying machines, Ormand says if it ain’t broken, don’t fix or replace it. And let me tell you, it’s FAR from broken! The popcorn is pure perfection. Their Pepperoni Pizza is probably one of their craziest flavors, and the Tuitti-Fruity is one of their best sellers. Some of the popular seasonal flavors are Watermelon in June, Popin’ Patriotic in July (blueberry, cherry and vanilla), Harvest in November (cinnamon, toffee, caramel and vanilla), and Crazy Cupid in February (pineapple, cherry and strawberry), just to name a few! Aside from their gourmet nibbles, Popcorn Etc. is your one-stop-shop for gifts of all ages! Jewelry, children’s clothing, man-cave accessories, and ornate wall crosses all adorn the space. You’ll be glad you popped in!
