Monica D. Reed was born to impact the nation. She has been on a mission to change the world one woman at a time. In addition, Monica is an award-winning, 18x #1 International Best-Selling author, transformation speaker, relationship consultant, and serial business owner. Monica Reed is a mother of four beautiful and amazing children.

Many people may not know that she WON second place in 7th grade for reciting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech. She did not win the award because of the words spoken. Dr. King accomplished that already. Her deep passion for “CHANGE” came from her heart that showed up through her tiny body (back then) with a BIG IMPACT that later led to the middle school AWARD!

Monica lost her passion within that little girl behind life experiences, insecurities, childhood trauma, becoming a wife, a mother, and being anyone else for everyone else. However, her unique life experiences led her right back to her life’s purpose.

NEWS FLASH. That girl is back! She is again fighting for CHANGE!

Monica started her journey as an entrepreneur by sharing her marital journey with the world by publishing her first book. Her story led to reconciliation and healing for many couples and women individually. Her fight will continue for change in families, marriages, and, most importantly, personal transformation. Her advocacy for change led to building healthy married couples and women empowerment communities.

In 2017, Monica launched her coaching then

speaking career to serve those passionate about sharing their journey, helping more women find their voices, and utilize their voices to reach back and pull another woman up.

In 2018, she won the Indie Author Legacy Award in the relationships category. She will forever take the stand for healthy families.

Monica Reed completed the Global Leadership Academy under and was mentored by #1 Transformation Speaker Lisa Nichols and Profit Coach Susie Carter, speaking on the same platform alongside Dr. Cheryl Wood and the Legendary Motivational Speaker Mr. Les Brown.

Monica continues to make a significant mark of her legacy in changing the trajectory of families for generations to come through new business HER Creative Corner: The Entrepreneur Business Center. The multi-location business is the platform and opportunity for new, aspiring, and existing companies to take their businesses to the next level. Her business has been marked as the FIRST black-owned, full-service, entrepreneur business center in Bucks County, PA.

All of her endeavors support the overall good works of her non-profit organization, Love Mama Inspires Foundation. The foundation serves children and young adults who have lost their mothers due to unforeseen circumstances. The organization ensures to continue empowering, inspiring, and guiding the children with the love, support, and community they need to carry out their family legacy.

She is not only the founder of the FIRST Black Owned Entrepreneur Business Center in Bucks County, but in Pennsylvania, she is also the visionary behind the FIRST Black Family Breakthrough platform, The FIRST Black Family

Magazine, the Executive Director of the Love Mama Inspires Foundation, and HER Impact & Success Leadership Academy.

Monica Reed was the FIRST in her family to receive an Outstanding Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy of Entrepreneurship and Business Administration along with the prestigious United Nations Global Woman of Distinction Award presented by the fully accredited Trinity International University of Ambassadors School of Business honors program.

Dr. Monica D. Reed is a solid voice to change the trajectory of adverse childhood experiences and a prime example of what happens when thought leaders raise awareness, create solution-based environments, and face life with a choice point; community outcomes become an excellent example of positive post-traumatic growth.

Monica has led several social-impact movements, such as Reneww Your Marriage, Reneww You, and the “I Am the VOICE of My Ancestors’” Movement, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Her work has been featured on ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX, BlackNew, and a host of media outlets.

Dr. Monica D. Reed has committed to spending the rest of her life creating platforms and programs to help women-led social-impact entrepreneurs, thought-leaders, and legacy leaders rise and to help to build stronger family foundations.

Her motto is:

“When one woman heals, one family is healed.”

Meet “LuxuRay”

Ray-moan LuxuRay Walker is a Brooklyn native New Yorker, Designer, Stylist, Luxury Curator, Founder, and CLxO of Haus of Flash. His fashion journey began the moment he recognized clothes for himself during his early childhood. Born to a mother and father who are both seamstresses and studied fashion, a grandfather who… well let’s just say was for the streets in an error of Frank Sinatra kept him the “people’s choice” for best dressed. In daycare LuxuRay’s favorite playing station was “housekeeping”, not because he loved to play house but because he was able to play in the closet. While others were pretending to cook and play mommy and daddy, he was forcing his friends to play at weddings or dinner

parties. LuxuRay has always had a burning passion for clothing and events! By 1st grade, he was picking out his own clothes. While the road was not easy he is a proud product of the NYC Public School System, an Alumni of Howard University and King School of Business. LuxuRay resides in Dumbo Brooklyn with his partner Rashod and “pawter” Bella.

LUXURAY

Exclusive Interview with CEO & Creative Director of Haus of Flash Chief Luxury Officer of The LuxuRay Experience

Luxury CuratorDesigner - Stylist

Black Family Magazine: Tell the world about LuxuRay and the “LuxuRay Experience.”

LuxuRay: I am LuxuRay. I was born in Brooklyn, New York, an entrepreneur, luxury curator, designer, and stylist. I could never have imagined that I would grow so ingrained in a city I had only dreamt about visiting as a child. In 2021, I established my luxury clothing brand, “Haus of Flash.” In 2022, I established my luxury enterprise “LuxuRay Experience. Two brands with the same common goal provide luxurious and memorable experiences to everyone we serve. This Historical edition of the Black Family Magazine is intended to take our readers on a journey through Paris via the eyes and lives of black professionals.

Black Family Magazine:

Let us begin with the initial phone call you received from Black Family Magazine to be a guest editor-in-chief and to do your magazine takeover. How were you feeling then about

being able to follow this through, like what it would mean to you and your brand, all those different things? Do you have any thoughts?

LuxuRay:

I remember exactly when I received the call from Black Family Magazine. I thought we would talk about the November edition. I had no idea that would be an invitation. Then to learn that this was a historical edition, I was like, wow. It was an honor. I was surprised. I was shocked. I was eager. I was excited. This was also around the time I was invited to do the show for the NYC Fashion Week. I remember sitting there going, Wow, God is moving and moving fast. These are all things you would hope to happen in your career someday. I remember sitting there thinking that in less than three months, a magazine, an international magazine cover, and a fashion show in Fashion Week. This is crazy!

16 THE BLACK FAMILY MAGAZINE

Black Family Magazine: Before stepping into the fashion industry, what were you doing?

LuxuRay: I have worked in corporate America for over ten years as an executive in Human Resources. I love developing people and helping them to be their best and achieve their professional/personal goals. While growing in my corporate path quickly, I always felt there was something more I should be doing. I’ve always taken pride in my attire and how I

show up. Without a direct intention to “show out,” I am often admired in my workspaces for my sense of style. Whenever someone asked me what I do for a living, I responded, “I’m an HR director,” my jaws would always drop. Truthfully I ran away from a career in fashion for two reasons.

1) I didn’t want to be a cliche stereotype for gay men. Just because a man is gay doesn’t mean he has to enjoy fashion or is fashionable; if he does, it doesn’t mean that’s his only layer.

2) The mental confines of America conditioned me to believe that the story of an artist is that of a “starving artist.”

A corporate role would prove me to be successful. In September of 2022, I learned that my corporate role was being eliminated; it was the worst timing as I prepared for NY, London, Milan, and Paris fashion week. At that moment which felt like a perfect storm, I realized it was God’s plan and timing. Though officially unemployed, I now had the full time to strengthen my craft and produce my brand, Haus of Flash, without limitations.

Less than six months later, here we are, and I have attended many shows in various fashion weeks, been featured on billboards, produced multiple collections, and made my debut on the runway at New York Fashion Week. I now understand that my assignment is to touch lives through fashion by making people feel good and look good.

Black Family Magazine: What would you say about the presence of Black families in Paris or the term “Black in Paris”?

17 THE BLACK FAMILY MAGAZINE

LuxuRay: When thinking about Black in Paris, we sometimes underestimate our presence there. I wouldn’t say we dominate France, Paris, or any other place in Europe, but we have a strong presence.

We are doing things, you know, where a lot of times people potentially think in Europe or precisely in Paris, you know, we all have immigration stories. There are a lot of Parisian or French citizens in Paris for Region locals born and raised in the city of Paris.

A perfect example is my barber whose family is of African descent, who is one of the first black people I’ve met who was born, raised, and grew up and still lives in Paris. He guided me to areas where our people are and broke the narrative that there’s not a lot in Paris. Just like any place in the United States, we have towns and neighborhoods that we dominate.

Our presence is definitely present. In Paris, we work in all different industries. We work in fashion and corporate; we own restaurants and many other types of businesses.

I’ve been wearing custom clothes all my life. I’m grateful and love that I have family and support. I grew up in a middle-class home,

even though I grew up in the hood of Brooklyn. My parents have had a significant influence on my fashion journey. Both of my parents are seamstresses and tailors. I’ve been designing my clothes most of my life because I always gave input, but as I got older, I would like to collaborate with them too, you know, to produce my custom looks. I only really showed an interest in wanting to do this part-time. I can say now, as an adult, seeing how supportive they are, including my dad coming up for New York Fashion Week, and he has been here every step of the way. They would have supported and aided me if this was something that I realized I was meant to do much earlier.

18 THE BLACK FAMILY MAGAZINE
How did your exposure at home play a significant part in your career, and what did family, personal connections, and support look like for you in catapulting you into your dreams?

LuxuRay continues…

I must backtrack because I would be remiss if I also didn’t say this. Then there’s also my grandfather, whom I did a tribute to in my fashion show, who has been known to be one of the snazziest dressers in all of New York City, and some will potentially say the world. My grandfather, Edgar Coombs, whom everyone knows as Rev. Edgar Coombs, is the muse for many of my loves in fashion.

My grandfather was monochromatic, kind of like a Ron Isley style dresser. He had platform shoes, zoot suits and hats for every single outfit. Every outfit had a hat in the fur coat. He was even featured in Ebony Magazine. I missed all that in his prime; however, I remember growing up as a kid, he was the first man I ever saw, an old purple or pink.

Wow! Wow! Wow! In addition, we were super close because his birthday is New Year’s Eve; my birthday is January 8th.

I wanted to point that out because it’s super important. A lot of what I wear and how I dress is not only, you know, an homage to him, but it’s really like genetic because I love a monochromatic look like I truly love to go all out with color. I have 1000 hats and accessories; I even inherited some of his when he passed.

Black Family Magazine:

That is amazing. Thank you for sharing that. Yes, thank you for backtracking and honoring your grandfather; it gives us greater insight into who you are, your family background, and how all those different things have influenced your path in your career.

Black Family Magazine: What advice do you have for those looking to enter the fashion industry?

LuxuRay: Research is key for anyone looking to enter fashion or transition into anything. Research so you can identify your path. Learn all of the various possibilities and choose the one that makes the most sense for you, and if it doesn’t exist, go the bespoke route and make your own. I am doing that right now, and it’s proving helpful. No one knows me better than me. As a people person and a people professional, I have been able to tap heavily into my interpersonal skills to push this new venture forward.

Black Family Magazine: What can we expect from “LuxuRay” and the “LuxuRay Experience,” and how can our audience stay connected?

LuxuRay: I’ll continue making my rounds across the country for various events, including Nigeria, Hong Kong, Milan, London, Ghana, Dubai, and Paris, in the coming weeks/months. Haus of Flash is also planning to hit the runaway again for Fall/Winter 2023!

Growing up in the projects as a young girl you get so comfortable trying to fit in. I knew that I didn’t want to be a statistic of my environment. I didn’t want to have a bunch of babies and a bunch of baby daddies. I have 2 daughters who are grown, and I tried to instill in them that if you work hard and have faith you can have the lifestyle you want. I created the life I wanted for my family. Family, don’t let no one tell you that you can’t do something. You can do anything when you put your mind to it. What is that scripture that says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me? Philippians

4:13. Sometimes it can be scary embarking on something new but once you take that first step it’s not so daunting. I have said I wanted to embark on some new journeys, but I have let fear

and procrastination stop me. I had to do the self-talk like shake this off and move out of your own way because we are going to be great. Everyone doesn’t need to know what you are doing. Just do it. If you fail, keep on trying. This is the year for greatness and moving in silence. So far so good. Be encouraged by the family to step out on faith. You got this.

Dear God I’m praying that hurt people will be healed and those that have been misused and abused forgive those that tried to destroy their soul. Heal us from shame. According to your word Heavenly father in John 14:14 “Ask anything in my name and I shall do it.

Daily, be specific and personal when speaking with GOD. For example, when my joints are hurting from the ugly disease “LUPUS”, I ask GOD to release the inflammation and swelling in my joints. I exercise, pray and listen to music. All of those things make me happy. Proverbs 17:22 says “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones. Even though I’ve encountered so much throughout my 45 years of life and endured plenty of disappointments, GOD will never put more on me then I can bear. If he brought me to it he will bring me through it. Everyday won’t be easy, but I’m determined not to remain in the valley. There is light at the end of every tunnel. John 10:10 says “Satan, only comes to steal, kill and destroy. However, I find

comfort in knowing; GOD came so that we may have life and have it more abundantly. There is healing in your hurt because without pain there is no room for healing. Rain must fall in all of our lives, so that we can grow. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission for our sins. Hebrews 9:22 says blood is a cleanser.

There is a reason why you chose your spouse. There is a reason why certain people were born or placed into your family dynamics. These relationships involved life lessons as well as divine connections.

In life as your family matures, so will you. Your faith and belief system should evolve. Being a better you is a transformation that takes place over time. As you develop, you won’t always carry the same goals nor ideology. Your core can remain the same or you may have to dig everything up, rebuilding your faith walk’s foundation.

You may change your stance on certain things. Continue to seek knowledge, wisdom and understanding. Truth and transparency are very important. Don’t be led by what is commonly thought nor rely solely on emotions.

I have respect for not only my awakening, but the journey of others. People have a mentality of force feeding you their interpretation of who the Creator is.

Many believe there is a true religion or only one path you can take to connect with the Most High. Don’t get so caught up in the route, you forget the importance of the destination. Walk into the vision that the Heavenly Father has for you.

Continue to research, meditate and pray. In all things, just call upon The Creator’s real name [YHWH]. It will make the process an easier walk to endure.

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

L“et love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.” Romans 12:9 The definition of love is simple – a deep and tender feeling of affection for or attachment or devotion to a person or persons. As love relates to family, we are taught to love one another as God loves us. God gives us grace, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness. God loves us unconditionally and this is the same love we should exhibit within our families. Genuine love is one of the most powerful forces to mankind. Genuine love is what drove Jesus through his life, death and his resurrection. We should love everyone including our families wholeheartedly. God has chosen to reveal his love to the world through our life. Dear God, please mold me into the person you want me to be. I allow your grace and love to transform my heart. Help me to show genuine love to those that I encounter. Today is the day that I choose to live a life of genuine love. Help me to overcome evil with good and use me to bring others to

you. Allow me to minister to others so that I can share the genuine love you’ve shown me. Help me to remember that I was created to give and to receive love. When we live for love we find our peace and our purpose in life. Thank you for how you have loved me. In your name I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Family Protection

Family relationships are enduring and consequential for well-being across the course of our life. Families are important because our mental growth, well-being, and stability all depend on our family dynamics. Children feel secure and loved when they have a strong and positive family relationship. As a parent, it is our responsibility to give our children the love and support they need to help them thrive.

Psalms 91:11 states “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” Regardless of the attacks that may come against our families, the Lord our God is declaring that He is with us. He will never leave us nor forsake us. God sends his angels to protect us and we should pray for protection over ourselves and our families.

40 THE BLACK FAMILY MAGAZINE

Dear God,

I thank you for sending your angels to protect my family. I pray for protection over my family wherever we go. I thank you that you’re keeping us safe and I’m aware that you are the source of our safety. I don’t walk in fear, but I walk knowing that you’re there to help me through whatever obstacle my family is faced with. I thank you for your supernatural protection today and every day. I love and honor you and I count on your provision and protection. I know that nothing happens without your approval. In your name, Amen.

Samantha Jackson

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17-18 NIV

In life, we see so many contradictions when we look at blessings that turn into burdens. We pray for the blessings but get sidetracked by what many blessings can bring to our life. We pray for a bigger house, but the burden is it seems too much for us to clean. We pray for having children, but we don’t see the late nights or possibly not getting the proper sleep. We pray for a spouse but don’t see the compromises we have to make to stay married to that individual. We pray for that big promotion but failed to realize all the new responsibilities.

We look around our community and we see so many needs, but we choose not to step in because we don’t see

42 THE BLACK FAMILY MAGAZINE
“Life ontradictions”

the possibilities. We don’t see we can be the blessing, all we see is the possible burdens that may come along with it.

The mistake we make in life is wanting all the blessings, but no burdens that may come with it. That is not the reality of life. We have to learn to enjoy the blessings while the burdens are still coming. We have to learn to be thankful for all things, even the small blessings that come daily.

Today take the time to thank God for all the blessings and burdens and see exactly how rewarding your life can be regardless of what it feels like we are always blessed in God.
