AMBASSADOR DR. KIMBERLY GRANT-BYNOE DIAMOND AUTHOR

Ambassador Dr. Kimberly Grant-Bynoe is a native of New York growing up in the urban suburbs of Brooklyn, New York. Since her youth she has always had big dreams of one day becoming an entrepreneur.

Her career and humble beginnings began after graduating High School. She obtained her first

employment opportunity on Wall Street in the Financial District working as an Executive Assistant for high level c-suite executives. She worked at Fortune 500 Companies such as Merrill Lynch, Shearson Lehman Brothers and American Express to name a few. This is where she was introduced to the financial services industry.

After years of working in Corporate America Kimberly was later called to leave her job to begin her first ministry assignment as a full time stay at home mom in raising her two children. This was very rewarding but also a financially challenging time in her life. This is where she discovered her purpose through the biblical life story of Joseph and answered her ministry call leaving the workplace and pursuing her dreams of entrepreneurship with a dollar and a big dream.

In 1999 her dream became a reality.

The organization was founded and incorporated in 2001 by visionary leader, business woman, social entrepreneur, philanthropist, and humanitarian Ambassador Dr. Kimberly Grant-Bynoe. Through the acts of charitable giving this was her way of giving back to assist underserved and disadvantaged minority communities in small business development, economic empowerment and financial literacy education.

IDTCA is a 501(c)3 tax exempt faith-based community economic development organization with offices located in New York and Atlanta, Georgia. Our vision is transforming lives, building dreams and changing communities one business at a time.

Amb DrKGB has served in the nonprofit sector for 25 years as the Executive Director for the International Dream Team Christian Association, Inc. (IDTCA).

She has become a 3X Award-Winning Economic Developer, Creative, Innovator, Thought Leader, International Speaker, Business Strategist & Innovation Coach.

Who knew that her audacious faith journey would lead her into investing to expand her business globally from the US and would become apart of history amongst women in Dubai, UAE.

As a wealth catalyst she has catapulted from a dollar and dream to turning her dreams into

wealth streams. Her most recent rewarding and greatest achievement was becoming the first African American woman expat in Dubai to obtain her mainland professional license in project management services, opening her new KGB Global Project Management Services International Headquarters in Downtown Dubai, UAE and receiving her Dubai, UAE investors residency visa. She will never forget this day that the Lord used her SET BACK as a SET UP for a strong COMEBACK.

Teresa is an accomplished entrepreneur. She loves to bring people together with her strong cultural background. It is important for Teresa to have a team around her that fosters diversity. Teresa’s strong background in Diversity & Inclusion ensures that she builds a community and network around different cultures.

Teresa is a strong believer of cultural relevance, and she has a clear understanding that one’s cultural background, uniqueness, and experiences can bring great success to any business.

While working as a senior director in the beauty industry for prestigious companies, Teresa would attend yearly conferences, with over 300 other directors. She only saw a handful of women that looked like her. It was not a good feeling. She became the voice for black and brown girls and women at her workplace. She received training and her certification for DE&I. Her training includes how to disrupt unconscious bias in the workplace

Teresa attended Strayer University and received her bachelor’s degree in business administration, while under an MBA program, she received her master’s degree in business management and Entrepreneurship.

Teresa always had a passion for owning her own business and is a firm believer that no job is your job, unless you have your own. Her 30 years of extensive knowledge, experience and leadership skills has helped her build collaborative business relationships. This profound expertise makes her a go-to business coach, empowerment coach, mentor, and consultant.

Growing up in Belize, Central America, Teresa admired the women in her life. They were true entrepreneurs. Her late mother taught her the importance of self-sufficiency. Understanding that position, Teresa became her own boss. Girls Of Color Take Over LLC was created to mentor, educate and empower young girls and women from different backgrounds. “Greatness takes a while“

There is Red Velvet but then comes Monique’s Red Velvet Cupcakes. There is no word to describe the Passion that Chef Monique Johnson has for food and people. Her big heart and gracious smile is reflective of the industry that she so enthusiastically loves.

“Betty Crocker” was a nickname that was given to her through her teenage years – and it followed her into adulthood. A hobby that has blossomed!

After a plethora of requests from her family and friends to bake on a daily basis, a baking career emerged for the Chef in 1995. To sharpen her skills, Monique received an A.A.S. in Culinary Arts and continued her education at Farleigh Dickinson University and received a B.A. in Hospitality and Tourism Management then later a teaching certification in culinary arts and hospitality and tourism. She has also attained a business certification. Monique has also received a Masters in Entrepreneurship and is presently working on a supervisors certification in education, masters level.

When completing college, the well-rounded Chef set her ambitions high by opening her own bakery. Monique’s burning desire was ojijnne that was well received in her community and expanded beyond her traditional baking skills. Monique Johnson’s struggles became real into her motherhood years when her son Miles was diagnosed with astrocytoma [brain cancer]. Through her son’s struggle Monique was afforded the opportunity to tell his story on the Queen Latifah show and provide tastings to the Queen while she was visiting the show. The Queen LOVED the sampled cookies and, as a result, offered Monique a job baking desserts for the show’s guests and crew.

In 2006, when Chef Johnson opened her first bakery, “The Sugar Cube.” Her son Miles was her biggest promoter, handing out free samples for two weeks straight.

That same year, Monique was offered a job with the Jersey City Board of Education as a Culinary Arts Teacher. She was able to keep up with the demands of being a mother, wife, and career woman until Miles’s cancer returned. She was forced to close the bakery. Unfortunately, Miles’s battle ended in 2008.

No matter the challenges Monique has faced, she never gave up on her dream. The culinary world has been her stepping stool and she truly,” works while others play!” (The motto for FDU Hospitality Department) Baking is her passion and it is deeply infused into her being. Not only does the Chef get to bake but specializes in the teachings of the culinary in her classroom. Monique teaches different topics such as quick breads, stir fry’s, soul food origin, Italian cuisine, and the real-life work force. (Restaurants, hotels, country clubs, etc.) Her expectations for her students are always set high and she sends them out into the real world prepared to excel.

Chef Johnson is reliving her dream of owning her own bakery once again with her son, Miles’s spirit guiding her. In 2017, she was a featured entrepreneur on BET CENTRIC reality show Queen Boss. She currently holds the reign as America’s Best Baker Queen for New Jersey Edition Cupcake Wars. She competed in Las Vegas in May 2018 and placed 1st runner up in the National competition. For America’s Best Bakers. She was chosen as one of the 50 finalists for the Start something challenge. She also won 2nd place for Rising Tides pitch and plan competition in June 2018.

Her current location is called “Sweets 4 Miles,” named in the memory of her son; this intimate bakery is located in Jersey City, NJ. She didn’t stop there, she also gives back to the community through her non profit organization 501c3. named,” The Miles 2 Go Foundation,” in which she donates birthday cakes and builds her own cupcake boxes to children with terminal illnesses and educates people on the importance of bone marrow donation.

Monique is also the author of her own book, Miles Between Us and also co-author of two anthologies. She’s in the planning process of opening her very own Culinary Academy to teach special needs students functional cooking. Chef is definitely on a mission to pursue her dreams.

Exclusive Interview with “I AM AFRICA” Founder, Jean Adero

Who is Jean Adero?

I am Africa’s daughter! I was born in Nairobi, Kenya, and moved 33 years ago to attend Morvris Brown College in Atlanta, GA. I loved it so much I stayed. And now I call two places home – Nairobi and Atlanta. And I want the same for any African American who seeks to belong to have the opportunity to choose where they reside. They have the option to call two places home. And I can show you how.

Did you grow up knowing that you were Africa’s daughter?

Oh, no… I was born in the 70s and grew up hearing that Africa was “the dark continent,” or “third world,” meaning that there was a bright continent, a first world, and a second world and that we were ranked the lowest. Now, I recognize that subconsciously, I believed that Africa was less than. That the West had something we did not have and that the narrative that Africa was poor was ingrained in me – even though I was not experiencing that level of poverty.

When did you figure out that Africa wasn’t less than?

My African-ness didn’t dominate my thoughts. I didn’t think about it until I moved to the United States. I remember the first few days at Morris Brown College hearing, “Wow… she’s from Africa,” and people marveling over it. That’s when I became awakened to my blackness. Over time, I developed pride and understood that I had something that African Americans yearned for. I have a deep knowledge of who I am because I can trace my ancestral lineage if I want to, and yet there has never been a need to. I just know that I am a daughter of Africa.

You are Africa’s Life Coach™. How did that come about?

I used to coach everybody. It didn’t matter where you came from; I knew I could help you move quickly from A to B. Yet, because I started coaching my friends and their friends, I started hearing them say, “I no longer want to see another therapist cry when I tell them my story.” That caught my attention. I knew that I had context around being African. Because I attended a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), I also had context around the lives of other people of color (African Americans’ Caribbeans, Africans from 54 countries). That’s how I knew it was time to focus. In my heart, I had the answer.

It’s a big title. Does it scare you?

No. I once heard that Mohammed Ali told the world that he was “the greatest” first – then the world told him back that he was the greatest. That was all the permission that I needed. I started telling the world I was Africa’s Life Coach™, and now they call me just that. I am living it with pride, knowing where my help comes from.

How would you describe your work?

People who work with me clear their minds and make money and more… More spirit connection, more health, more family, and aligned work, more alive-ness (if that’s a word).

Most people are in a rat race. They are shackled by culture, by obsolete thought processes, by the way things are supposed to be. They are doing what I call “dancing with average” – comfortable in average life experiences. Yet it’s choking the life out of them.

My 12-week Design Your Life program moves my clients from fear to faith to manifestation in 90 days. It’s an organized system of thought. They begin to attract what they want. I want it to be money. Let’s go ahead and conquer making money, keeping it, and growing it to focus on what we really want.

I’ve heard you say, “I AM Africa. Africa is a person… not a place”. What do you mean?

I noticed that whenever someone graduated from my coaching program, they would change themselves, and everything around them would change. One day, it hit me. The phrase “we must change Africa” was focused on the place, yet when the person transforms, the place automatically transforms. Lightbulb! Africa is a person… Wait! I AM Africa. I used my program to change my life. I really AM Africa! I’m a person – not a place.

Is that how the I AM Africa Experience came about?

Yes, during the pandemic, I spent my evenings coaching women via Zoom, and as the world was opening, my client Purity called me and suggested that she was ready to meet her Zoom friends, who had become so dear to her in person. We planned a beautiful weekend retreat in Atlanta with one key ingredient – the spirit of harmony. The I AM Africa Experience was born in a space of humanity, acceptance, and grace. I Kiswahili, we call that ‘Utu’ – I am because you are.

We have had 3 I AM Africa events in Atlanta, with the next one on August 9-11, 2024.

What is the intention of I AM Africa?

It gives us – people of African descent – a space to be. To feel safe spiritually, mentally, and physically. To simply be. To experience true psychological safety so that we can dream, imagine, and peacefully begin to see that the harmony in the room can be experienced anywhere – even in the midst of chaos.

Do you have an I AM Africa Experience in Kenya as well?

Yes. Nairobi is a welcome home retreat for African Americans. Over the years, I wondered why my African American sisters rarely took me up on my offer to come home to Nairobi with me. In 2023, one friend did, and she brought her adult daughter with her. It was magical.

We gave them a welcome home ceremony and made them our special guests. They received our gifts with joy; they gave us Africans permission to give them more, show them more, and share more of our stories. We did not hold back. There was an exchange. We realized that we are siblings, separated by history. We recognized that we need each other. Our American sisters got to experience true psychological safety for the first time. And now

they are free to come home whenever they want. And like me, they can choose to have two homes –Kenya and America.

When is the next I AM Africa Retreat in Nairobi? October 2-9, 2024. We are so excited. We would like to welcome at least 50 people home in Nairobi. We want you to experience the people, the culture, the hospitality, the food, our city, our homes, our vibrant spirits, our ancestral homes, our laughter. We want you to see “how we are” so that you can understand that there is nothing wrong with “how you be.” Once you experience home, your spirit will settle into the home within you and open you up to belong to yourself forever.

I am proud that I said yes to myself and embraced courage over fear. I became Africa’s Life Coach™, then coached others of African descent to become coaches. Eva Wambui was born and raised in Nairobi but later moved to the US, where I have been an IT professional for the last eight years.

As a leukemia survivor diagnosed in the US, I was inspired to start a bag line.

My diagnosis and the journey that started in Kenya became a life-changing journey in the US. The journey of acceptance changed my outlook into a positive one, and I was full of energy. I consider myself living proof that hope can prevail.

My Dream

More than anything in the world, it is my wish that I am seen as more than just cancer. I have a purpose, desire, plan, and faith enough to know that I can imagine the life I want and watch it come true.

Born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, Bernice Fynn immigrated to the United States to join her husband. She studied Business Administration at Coppin State University and worked with an auto manufacturing company for eighteen years.

Bernice has been in business her entire life since the age of seven. In 2016, together with her husband, they formed a small business enterprise. Our dream is to make Afrocentric products accessible to our brothers and sisters in the diaspora made by

the indigenous natives from the motherland. Some proceeds from this small business help sustain people and communities in Africa.

I am passionate about serving communities and dedicating my time to discussing basic fundamental rights and privileges, which has led me to be part of various organizations.

I co-founded Lending Hands-Touching Lives, a 501c3 nonprofit organization providing educational resources and mentorship to young boys and girls in Ghana and responsible for coordinating the delivery of goods and services to communities and institutions across the continents of Africa.

In my capacity as General Secretary of the Sisters Keepers Association, SKA, I have been instrumental in dissipating myths surrounding dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, in cities and villages in Ghana, while also advocating for the elderly population who are often neglected due to misinformation about the disease process.

I am also a member of the Makefield Women’s Association (MWA), a local nonprofit organization in Yardley, PA. The ladies in this group raise funds and provide services to individuals. MWA supports programs that benefit both the local community and humanitarian organizations. Each year, members select a group of local nonprofit organizations to be beneficiaries of our annual fundraiser. One hundred percent of funds raised, donations are given to charity.

In 2023, I was appointed the public relations officer of the Bono-Ahafo Association of Ghana, Trenton, New Jersey Chapter. This group focuses on bringing together and integrating Africans living abroad and our African-American communities. We also support developmental projects in the rural areas in some parts of Ghana and West Africa. Each year, the group organizes cultural events, seminars, and festivals showcasing the rich culture of the African continent.

As a culturally astute professional, I was honored to join The African American Culture Collaborative of Mercer County’s board in January 2024, committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity through arts and education initiatives.

I am married to my beloved husband Phanuel, and together we have three adorable boys. I love traveling, cooking, dancing, and building personal relationships. I am a firm believer of Christ!
