It w a s all about West Coast pool action this October in Lincoln City, Oregon. The 3rd Annual Chinook Winds 10-Ball Open hit the top of the charts and, once again, the beach was a great backdrop for the event. Chinook Winds Casino Resort added $17,000 prize money to the 10-Ball Open events - $12,000 to Men’s division based on 96 entries with a guaranteed $10,000 for 1st; and $5,000 to the Women’s division with $4000 guaranteed for 1st place based on 32 entries. The Men’s division raced to 7 and the Women’s raced to 5. Overall, 118 men and 30 women entered all contending to get into the money. Players came from all over the United States and beyond to participate and a huge gallery of spectators watched many excellent matches as the tournament unfolded. People were able to observe and learn what great pool playing is all about. The crowds were awed by the likes of top players such as Allison Fisher, Bernie Store, Joanne & Bev Ashton, Kathy MacDonald, Rebecca Wagner, Warren Kiamco, Carlo Biado, Danny Gokhul, Max Eberly, Marc Vidal Claramunt and Paul Poutier. They were equally dazzled by top regional players Cindy Sliva, Kim Jones, Liz Cole, Dan Louie, Stan Tourangeau, Randy Baker and Eddie Carrido, to name just a few. All the players showed great class, talent and sportsmanship. Prior to the CWO itself, a $1,000 added Warm Up 10-ball tournament took place on Thursday night, sponsored by Bud Light. League players and those entered in main event were welcome to play. 90 men entered the $25 entry, race to 3, double- elimination event. A short race can be an equalizer with top players and the event was a smash. There was over $3000 in prize money up for grabs. Warren Kiamco took 1st, Randy Baker-2nd, Sean McDonough-3rd, Carlos Biado4th. The Women’s Warm-up tournament featured 12 women. Sherry Ahola run through field to take top spot followed by Mary Coffman-2nd, Kimberly Kirk3rd and Natasha Hook-4th.

A Calcutta was held and, although auctioning through both fields took some time, it was well worth it. There was a net of $16,890 in the men’s and $4,945 in the women’s. Paul “Kez” Marquez was calling on bidders to buy horses and his enthusiasm propelled the bids. It was a fun and exciting event. The Women’s finals featured Allison Fisher of North Carolina and Rebecca Wagner of Nevada. Wagner, 2013 US Bar Table 9-Ball Champion, fought her way out of the loser’s bracket after being defeated in her first match by Liz Cole. She faced a gauntlet of tough competitors on the B side, including Sherry Ahola, Kimberly Kirk, Bev Ashton, Cindy Silva and Susie O’Connor on her way to the finals. The finals match featured a lot of great play from both women and both played like the champions they are. Billiards Hall-ofFamer Fisher seemed to struggle a bit on the Diamond 7 footer while Wagner played steady on to capture the first set 5-0, a rare shut out for Fisher. Wagner kept up the pace in the second set, leading 3 -0 until Fisher won a game. Wagner’s near flawless play proved to be too much for Fisher and in the end Wagner double-dipped The Duchess of Doom, winning 5-4 in the second set. In the Men’s Finals, Rodney “The Rocket” Morris of California drove at a run-out pace and met Filipino Champion Carlo Biado in the finals. Biado had sliced his way through a star-studded loser’s bracket featuring Marc Vidal Claramunt, and his fellow Filipino, Warren Kiamco, on way to the finals match. Biado showed why he is the feared competitor he is. Morris’ performance dominance in the tournament can be described as a ‘Mack truck’. “The Rocket” matched against some considerable competitors along his way - Danny Gokhul and Stan Tourangeau to name a few, but ran over Biado 5-3 in the finals on his way to the $10,000 1st place prize. Praise for the tournament came in from all fronts. The acclaim coming from both participants and spectators was very rewarding to hear. Players new to the event said they had never seen such a great event and are coming back to play at next one in March, 2016. Pool Coach Paul Potier gave

free stroke analysis - What fun! The event is growing in stature with professionalism and popularity. The Chinook Winds Open 8-Ball in March will be a qualifier for Mosconi Cup Points where pros can vie for a spot on Team USA. It took a lot of hard work producing the Chinook Winds Open event. Co-coordinators/directors Andrew Monstis and Mike Jensen managed the event from start to finish. Additionally, the WBCA team of Robbin Iredale - PR staff coordinator; Cathy Dunford Financial manager; Pam Carraway - Podium supervisor; and numerous other staff worked hundreds of hours to make this event successful. They say it’s better at the beach and they are right! Chinook Winds Casino Resort is a full service facility and is an exceptional venue for a world class tournament. Having this event tucked in at the beach in Lincoln City, Oregon creates an atmosphere you can’t find everywhere else. The CWO was sponsored by Chinook Winds Resort and Casino, a grant from the Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau, and Anheuser-Busch. Bud Light was the official beer of the event and sponsor of the Warm-up Tournament. November 2015
I like to tell players that 15 minutes of serious, focused, solid practice is worth 3 hours of play. I really believe this. Hardly anyone really practices. Yeah, they bang balls around. OK, they shoot their favorite shots. Sure, they set up their favorite drill from time to time. And that shot that cost them the match the other day – maybe they shoot it two or three times. I don’t consider this practice. Practice is working on the things you suck at. Improve the worst things about your game, and you raise your whole game. We all have them. We probably even know what they are, but it’s hard to admit we’re afraid of rail shots or our speed control is bad or there is a certain angle we see wrong every time. And it’s even harder to hunker down and work on these things in the poolroom because 1) it’s hard work and 2) we don’t want to look bad in front of all those players and railbirds we’re so certain are watching our every move. We are self-conscious. We are making an impression on everyone that’s watching, and we usually (hustling aside) want that impression to be that we are in the zone. We want to intimidate our future opponents. I’ve described some good practice techniques in other columns, and I’ll certainly be presenting more in future columns. There are many worthwhile practices. But while I like to promote real practice, I know you’re going to get tired of it pretty quickly and want to get busy playing or sitting around. So, let’s shift to looking at what you can do to learn and improve while you’re playing or sitting around in the poolroom. When you play, you spend some time in the chair, waiting your for next inning. A lot of players spend their time in the chair cursing themselves for their last miss, hoping their opponent will miss, looking around the room, trying to look disinterested, or slouching and sulking. This is unproductive, and may even be counter-productive. Instead, how about seeing your chair time as
The Break
OnTheBreakNews.com
practice time? Continue to study the layout just as if you were still at the table. What sequence of shots would you shoot? Why? What’s the best way to play that safety? How could you get back in line? How could you win from here? Stay fully focused and involved. No slouching. No feeling sorry for yourself. Part of the challenge of pool is warming up – getting your body and your attention activated and involved, fully and appropriately. I believe remaining engaged in the action while you’re in the chair helps you get warmed up and helps you get focused and stay focused. In pool, it’s absolutely vital to come out of the chair warm, focused, and ready. This is a skill – and a choice. Choose to come out of the chair fully present, fully engaged. We’re not always in a match or a practice session. Sometimes we’re just sitting around, casually watching others play. I suggest you use this same approach during casual watching. You can learn a great deal by watching the best players around. Watch their shot selection, their position play, their speed, their demeanor, their form. Why are they doing things the way they’re doing them? Actively think about what you see. What can you apply in your own game? What qualities could you incorporate? You can even learn by watching lesser players. Their mistakes will be more obvious. Why and how would you have done it differently? Do they have some of the same weaknesses as you? How could they improve? You get the idea. There is no end to what you can learn by watching. But there is a big difference between watching a thousand shots with your brain engaged and watching a thousand shots in a daze. This game calls for full concentration. Choose to focus and choose to learn. Take advantage of all that play going on around you – observe closely, and choose to get better.

Michael K Glass
Michael Glass has been teaching pool for close to 10 years. He is a Recognized PBIA Billiards Instructor, taught by none other than Bob Jewett of the San Francisco Billiard Academy. Michael has been playing pool almost all of his life (except when he was in the Navy — it’s hard to install a pool table on a rocking ship!). He managed to stay away from the hustler life; he doesn’t believe in being dishonest in order to win money. He will, however, occasionally play for a beer or two at the local watering hole. Michael teaches all levels of pool players, from beginner to pro, and works on all aspects of the game, from fundamentals, to pattern play, to trick shots. He can be found playing in his home town of San Ramon, CA at Crown Billiards. Visit his website at billiardsprofessor.com for pool tips or to schedule a lesson!
OnTheBreakNews.com
Not long ago, I played in the BCAPL National Championships. It was a lot of fun; anyone who has been to Las Vegas for these events knows, it’s a great time. Unfortunately, my family and friends could not all go to Vegas to cheer us on, and would be doing so from afar. My gal helps out tremendously for events like this, sending out texts and updating my Facebook page to update them on our progress. This is awesome, but what if we could do more? One day, she and I were brainstorming, and suddenly realized we had the answer in the palm of our hands. Literally! Could we stream our matches from our smart phone? In short, yes! After much fiddling and testing, we decided to set up our iPad to use Ustream, and we met with resounding success. My family and friends were able to watch many of my matches over the course of a week, live. Plus, they could chat with each other and with my girlfriend as well. I love living in the future. As you might know, I play in the Mezz West State Tour. They have a “TV table,” and every match played on this table is streamed live, for free. On top of that, they use tablets for each table to keep score, which gets updated on their website in real time. They usually have two commentators who are very knowledgeable about the game and the tour, and they have a chat room set up where people can comment on the match as they are playing. The commentators even interact with the chat room, answering questions as they go. You won’t see that on ESPN! There are many other billiards events now that follow this same format. It is the way of the future, and we must embrace it. These days, I have heard and read many discussions about the state of the game of pool – how ESPN will show bowling or golf on TV, but you rarely see billiards any more. That the sport is “dying,” and that
www.facebook.com/onthebreaknews
there is a dwindling following. You know what’s dying? TV. There is a tremendous dilution of viewers for most television shows these days. 9000 channels, and now competition from the likes of Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and Roku. In a short time, I truly believe more and more people will abandon the sinking ship of large cable companies, and will begin embracing the idea of getting their content online. We are at the beginning of this paradigm shift, and it’s time that pool rides that wave. Do you want to see great pool? Go online. Jump onto those live streams, and get involved in the discussion. Best of all, give something back. Donate a little, and show the streamers that you support the hard work they do to consistently provide us with quality HD content. We’re never going to get back to the days of ESPN broadcasting epic pool matches. We don’t need them. We are the Online Generation, and we are the pioneers of the streaming world. Let’s embrace it, encourage it, and support it. If you are interested in setting up your own stream, there are a few options. I am not partial to any of them; I happened to pick Ustream because I was more familiar with it, and we needed a quick solution. I would look at Ustream, Livestream, or Youtube. Do some research; I am sure there other options as well. Most have a free option, if you just want to stream for a couple of people to watch, and a pay option to remove ads and allow more viewers. If you would like to share some of your success stories (or even the failures), or have suggestions for future articles, please feel free to drop me a line at pool@billiardsprofessor. com. Starting an In-House League

Sometimes it’s hard to find competitive pool games and it’s competition that will keep you sharp and measure your real progress at this game. Leagues provide an excellent opportunity for challenging games but sometimes playing in one of the national leagues just doesn’t work for a particular room. Below is how you can set up your own in-house league. The bookkeeping is pretty simple and if you choose the drop-in format described below there is almost no scheduling involved. The overview: The basic format is a league for individuals, not teams. It can be used for either a season or for weekly tournaments. It has a 100% handicap and that handicap is adjusted automatically for each player. First, how does the handicapping work? Each player has a rating. Players with higher ratings have to spot lower players according to the difference of their ratings. If a player wins, his rating goes up, if he loses it goes down, and that happens after every match. The match handicaps are given by tables. I’ll show tables for rack-based games as well as for straight pool (14.1 continuous). The tables are pretty simple to construct if you’re good with math, but in case you’re not, I’ll be glad to provide tables for various match lengths. Just send email to jewett@sfbilliards.com and let me know what sort of league you’re planning. Here is a table for nine ball with the race to about 5: So if a player rated at 500 plays a 550-rated player, the difference in their ratings is 50 points and the stronger player has to win 6 games before the weaker player wins 4. The largest handicap for this particular table is 6-2 which is the match for all pairs of players that are 156 or more rating points apart. Note that there are many, many rating levels in this system, not just A, B, C … as you see in some systems. This makes weekly automatic adjustment of the ratings possible. After each match, the winner of the match goes up 3 rating points while the loser goes down 3 rating points. That’s not a big change, so a single win won’t make much difference to a player’s rating, but if he consistently wins more than half his matches, his rating will gradually rise to his true skill level against the other players in the system. This is simple enough to do on paper or you could make a simple spread sheet to keep track of things. I favor paper which can be posted where everyone can see how the ratings change. There are several league season formats you can use with this system. A common one in my area is the weekly drop-in format for individuals. On, say, Tuesday night whoever wants to play shows up and they are matched up by the league operator according to the handicap table.
November 2015 The Break
OnTheBreakNews.com
Each player pays $10 for the match, some of which is for table time and some goes into the prize fund. If some players want to play a second match or even a third match, that’s OK as long as they have an opponent. At the end of the 12-week session, every player who has at least 12 matches completed gets to play in the playoffs. Cash prizes are awarded for best records during the session and for the top places in the playoffs. Another popular format is the single-night tournament. On Wednesdays, everyone who shows up by 7:30 gets in a single-elimination tournament and prizes are awarded each night. You could also have a quarterly tourney for the most frequent players in the weekly to reward regular participation. Finally, you could do the usual round-robin format where everyone plays everyone else. If you don’t want to work out a schedule, you could have the players schedule their own matches according to when they and tables are available. If you do that, I strongly recommend collecting half of the money for the entire season from each player at the start. The hardest part of running this system is setting initial ratings for players. If you know the players pretty well, you can figure about what a fair spot is and figure out the rating difference between them from the table. Set the strongest player in your area to a rating of 700 and the rest relative to him. You may want to manually adjust players after they play several matches in case you see they are clearly at the wrong level. You could also adjust players by 6 points per match for the first year they are in the system which levels things out faster. The rating scale described above is similar to the FargoRate system (see fargorate.com) which rates over 30,000 players worldwide, and if any of your local players have ratings there, you should use them as their initial ratings for your local system and adjust the other players relative to them. If you want to set up a handicapped straight pool league, here is a table for medium-length matches in which the better player goes to 80 points: Rating Diff. Match 0-4 80-80 5-14 80-75 15-24 80-70 25-35 80-65 36-47 80-60 48-60 80-55 61-75 80-50 76-91 80-45 92-109 80-40 110-129 80-35 130-154 80-30 155-183 80-25 184-219 80-20 220-up 80-15 If you would like to try the above and have question, shoot me an email.

Composure: Have you ever seen a professional pool player break their cue in the middle of a match? Missing an easy shot can be very frustrating! What most players don’t seem to understand is that remaining positive is often their best option. Being cool, calm, and collected are some of the best characteristics that a pool player can have. Understanding how to harness your negative feelings and transform them into something positive will not only make you a better player, it will also intimidate your opponent.
“Focus” Pool is a brain game. The majority of what occurs between the break and the money ball depends in large part upon what’s going on inside of someone’s mind. Although not as strenuous as some sports, pool is perhaps the most difficult game ever invented. Regardless of a player’s ability or the conditions of the table, our thought processes dictate everything that we do. Our thoughts determine if we are going to shoot or play safe or whether we are going to be calm or nervous, and it also sets the tempo that determines whether we play fast or slow. Here’s a look at a few of the essential mental skills pool players of all ability levels (both amateur and professional) need to master. Confidence, composure, focus, and control are all functions of the mind and all share equal roles in our ability to play well. Confidence: Pool players have got to accept the fact that they must live in the present moment. No matter how good your last match was, you are only as good as your next shot. Developing self-confidence is essential for players seeking to reach the professional level. Sure, it doesn’t hurt to have come off a great performance, but a positive outlook will allow you to return to the table after losing five games in a row and say to yourself, “From here on out, this is

Focus: There are two types of distractions in the game of pool: external and internal. External distractions include playing conditions, noise, and the aggravation that comes along with the fact that your opponent may be trying to intentionally “shark” you. You really can’t control external distractions, but you can definitely improve the way that you deal with the internal ones. By changing the way we think, we can effectively reduce the negative effects distractions have on our game. Our ability to concentrate on one shot at a time requires practice, but the benefit of learning how to focus fosters a positive outlook that is well worth any player’s time and effort. Control: Being able to stay focused, composed, and maintain a high level of self-confidence sum up to what most pool players seek to achieve every time they approach the table. When you learn to control your mental game, you can visualize the physical aspects more clearly. And when the two work together in harmony at the correct tempo, you experience a positive, pure, and effortless performance that only takes place when you are functioning subconsciously. Players refer to this state as “Dead Stroke.” A strong mental game is crucial. A powerful game takes commitment, determination and lots of practice. Players must learn how to apply mental concepts during game play. It’s easy to read an article on mental training and then forget about the strategies you learned a few days later. The key is to find mental game strategies and apply them to your practice so you become comfortable with them during competition.

November 2015 The Break
This month’s shot is from the official Artistic Pool program and the principle it is based on is going to be very useful during any kind of pool game. Let’s take a look at the diagram for the correct set up. The Cue Ball is frozen to the long rail at 1.5 diamonds from the closest corner pocket. Our first object ball, the red 3-Ball, is also frozen to the rail at the second diamond from the same corner pocket. The green 6-Ball is placed next to it, frozen to it and their line of centers is perpendicular to the long rail. Place the 8-Ball behind the Cue Ball at the first diamond and at about 1/2 inch from the rail. Finally place the 9-Ball hanging by the corner pocket. We obviously want to win the game and if the 8-Ball had not been in that spot, we could have drawn the Cue Ball back after hitting the 3-Ball and thus pocketing the 9-Ball. Instead we are still going to hit the 3-Ball first but we are using it as our “Ramp Ball”. This concept is rather useful while playing any pool game: if a ball happens to obstruct the path you need to send your Cue Ball along, always check for any other ball which could serve as a ramp so you can easily hop over the obstacle ball. Going back to our shot, place your “elevated bridge” behind the 8-Ball, where the “X” is. An “elevated bridge” is when the palm of your bridge hand is off the table but you are still keeping the tips of 3 or 4 fingers on it, except for your thumb. That allows you to shoot over an obstructing ball by also jacking up the back of your cue. For our shot, elevate your cue about 20⁰ and aim the 3-Ball full, using 2 tips of top-left English on the Cue Ball (10:30 on the clock). Use a 3-speed stroke. The Cue Ball will hit the 3-Ball and hop over the 6-ball, then travel two rails and sink the 9-Ball in the corner pocket. To master this shot, try also different approaches such as using a little more elevation, or a 10 o’clock or even an 11 o’clock stroke on the Cue Ball and find out for yourself the different outcomes. Keep in mind that Ramp Balls can be used to jump the Cue Ball over an obstacle ball or a whole cluster of balls provided the distance between the Cue Ball and the Ramp Ball is no more than 8” and the distance between the Ramp Ball and the obstacle is under 1-1.5 feet, otherwise the power you’ll need to clear the obstacles will likely send the Cue Ball off the table.

We went out to get our cues and discovered that John had accidently locked the keys in the car. We went back in and said “can someone call a locksmith, we locked our keys in the car”. Six guys jumped up at the same time and said “I’ll get it open for ya,” pulling slim-jims out of their pockets. One of them got to the door first and preceded to get our car open as fast with his slim-jim as we could with the key. We didn’t waste a minute and won a couple thousand in 4-5 hours. Later that year we heard that one of the biggest car theft rings in the country was busted in that town. The newspaper said they all hung out at a local pool room. HIGH DESERT SHOOTOUT
The 2015 Andy Cloth High Desert Shootout held in Rawlins, WY on Sept. 25-27 was another huge success! There were 170 entries from around the Rocky Mountain region and beyond competing in this $10,000 added tournament for a total of almost $30,000 of prize & calcutta money in the ten different events that were offered! In the open class there were Masters (pros & top notch players), Expert (seasoned players), Classic (intermediate players) and Sportsman (beginners players) divisions, in the juniors there were three divisions offered and also a hard luck 9-ball tournament on Sunday. The tournament was highlighted by the presence of 4-time World Champion and Hall of Famer Johnny “Scorpion” Archer, U.S. Open Champion, Rodney “Rocket” Morris and also World Champion Trick Shot Artist, Mike “Tennessee Tarzan” Massey! Not only were these three professionals were very gracious with their time throughout the tournament interacting with the other players and spectators with photo ops and autographs but they also displayed their talent on the table by winning all three of the Masters events, Morris won the single elimination 10-ball and double elimination Saratoga (an 8-ball & 10-ball hybrid game) events while Archer grabbed the single elimination 8-ball title. Mike Massey, who had a 4th place finish in the Saratoga event and whose only losses all weekend came against Archer & Morris in all events, still wowed the crowd with an outstanding trick shot exhibition

He was pretty worn out after having performed trick shot exhibitions for the six nights in a row prior to the tournament across southern Wyoming and northern Colorado! As Johnny Archer said, “It never gets old watching Mike entertain a crowd and perform his outstanding trick shots and amazing
stroke shots!” Once again, promoter, EJ Glode, was able to keep the sport of pool rolling with being the man behind the scenes that not only brings this kind of talent to the Rocky Mountain region for everyone to enjoy but to also bring this level ($10,000 added money) of pool to this area for players to compete for! Men’sB Singles The Men’sB Division got on the tables on Tuesday evening with a field of 147 on a quest for first place and $880. Tyler Hanson (CPL) and Evan McClendon (EV) came through their preliminary brackets undefeated to get to the “big board”. There they both went on to the point match where Tyler prevailed by a score of 6-3 and captured the hot seat to wait and see if Evan would come through for a rematch. Only Zack Hill (CC) stood in Evan’s way. Zack wasn’t quite up to the task, losing that match 4-6 and left in 3rd place ($485) and Evan moved on to the final and another chance to take Tyler down.
Tyler Hanson
The race to 6 final match was a good one, with solid shooting by both men, and was even through the first 6 games (3-3) before Tyler took control and won the next 3 games to put an end to Evan’s singles (2nd place/$665). Tyler accepted the title and big check and will try his luck in the Men’sA Division next time he comes to Lincoln City.
GramdMaster Singles
Kim Jones
Stan Tourangeau
Also starting on Tuesday were the GrandMaster Singles, with 16 men and 9 women playing for $1000 and $650 respectively. Kim Jones (NPL) was looking for another GM title to add to her collection and a hot shooting Kimberly Kirk wanted it just as much. First, however, Kimberly had to deal with Jing Liu and she was up to the task, leaving Jing in 3rd place ($100). On to the final. Kimberly came out red hot and took the first set 7-3 with three break and runs along the way. Kim Jones is as tough as they come though and, after falling behind 0-3 in the second set, got down to it and took seven of the next 8 games to close out the match 7-4.
On the men’s side, Jim Conway (LTD), in his first outing as a GrandMaster, showed he is worthy of the designation as he bested Stan Tourangeau in the point match and went undefeated to the final. To get to the final, Stan first had take down Bobby Campbell (NPL), shutting him out 9-0. Master Bobby finished in 3rd place ($300), a great showing. The final between Jim and Stan was a good one. The first set was a tight one with Stan coming out on top by a score of 9-7. The second set was similar to the first and with the same result. Stan was just a little too much for Jim (2nd place/ $650) this day as he captured another title and showed us he is, indeed, a great champion.

Men’sA Singles
The Men’sA Division started Wednesday at noon, with 129 entered and $1170 waiting at the other end of the brackets. Isaac Norman (CPL) made his way to a spot in the final unbeaten through his preliminary bracket and the “big board’ to await a challenger for the title. David Lash (NPL) knocked out Brian Roberson (NPL) in the backside semifinal to get a shot at the title. Brian earned $650 for his 3rd place showing. Isaac got off to a quick start in the race to 7 final, reeling off three straight wins. David then answered back with five wins of his own to take the lead (5-3). Isaac broke and ran game 9, but that was it for him as David followed with his own break and run plus a win in game 11 to close out the first set 7-4, setting up another possible double dip. In the second set, the boys split the first 6 games (3-3). Isaac then took control of the match and won the next four games and the match was over with David finishing in 2nd place ($875) and relative newcomer Isaac walking off with the title and $1170.

Men’s Senior Singles Also starting on Wednesday was the Men’s Senior Singles with 35 seasoned veterans seeking the title and the $500 first place prize. Vernon Joe (LTD) made his way to a spot in the final undefeated. Vernon is no stranger to the final of this event, having several titles under his belt. His eventual opponent, Richard Green (LTD) had a tougher road to the final. Richard met up with David Pasciyo (LINC), in round 5 and went to the back side. David went on to the point match against Vernon, lost that match and he too went to the back side. Richard won his next two matches to get a rematch
with David and sent him home in 3rd place ($230). Richard went on to the final against Vernon, which turned into a 2 set affair. Richard won the first set decisively 7-1. The second set was a tense battle between these two gentlemen and went hill-hill. Vernon won the decider and was the champion. Richard earned $330 for his efforts.
Vernon Joe
It’s always interesting to watch the Senior Singles. Most of these players have been around for awhile, play just as hard as anyone and know a trick or two. Fun to watch.
Women’s A & B Singles Both the Women’sA Singles (50 entrants playing for the $6601st place prize) and the Women’sB Singles (46 entrants playing for $410 for 1st place) started their quests for the titles on Wednesday as well. In the Women’sA Division, NPL’s Barbara McKinney-Garza (2014 9-Ball Women’sB Champ) continued her upward journey to capture this event’s title and will next test her feet in the waters of the Women’s Master Division. 2nd place ($450) finisher, Mary Olney (CWY) was no match for Barbara in the final, losing 5-1.
In the Women’sB Division, Nicole Donisi (CPL) lost her first match and came all the way through the backside to the final against Brooke Williamson Barbara Garza undefeated Brooke Williamson (LTD), playing Brooke Wiliamson in her first regional championships. Nicole took the first set 5-1 and was on her way to the title if she could continue playing well. Brooke, though, had another plan for the second set and reversed the score, winning the set 5-1 and the match and she was the champion. Pretty good showing for a first timer!

Women’s Master Singles All that remained of the singles divisions were the Masters, getting underway on Thursday. The Women’s Master Singles started at 11am, with a field of 37, and by Friday at 5pm, only undefeated Misty Saldana (TC) and Susie O’Conner (LTD) remained to see who would be champion and $940 richer. It proved to be a 2 set affair, with the ladies going back and forth as the slogged their way through game after game. Neither of them really took control of the match and in the end, the first set went to Susie by a score of 6-4. In the second set, Misty got off to a great start, winning the first four games before Susie got on the board (4-1). Misty won the next game, was on the hill (5-1) and only need one game while Susie needed 5 to win the match. Susie chose that point in the match to bring it and played the best 5 games of the match to capture the title, including many difficult, do-or-die shots and a table run to close it out. Susie had a pretty good week in Lincoln City, Women’s Master Champ and a third place finish in the Women’s Chinook Winds Open. No, not a bad week at all.
Susie O’Conner
Men’s Master Singles The Men’s Master Singles featured 66 strong shooters looking to take home the $1370 first place check. Four made it to the “big Board” undefeated: Randy Baker (CC), Clayton Foran (CWY), Steve Lingelbach (NPL) and Bob Olson (NPL). Randy and Steve would go on to the point match, Clayton and Bob would go to the backside to battle on. The point match was as good as any final and had a little of everything. There were three run outs following misssteps on the break (one foul, one failed push and one dry break), two break and runs and one 3 foul loss among the 13 games of the match. There were safety games and few unforced errors. But in the end, Steve prevailed by a score of 8-5 and moved on to the final. Would Randy come back for a second shot at Steve? Bob Olson had other plans that didn’t include Randy Baker (3rd
place/$660) in the final. Bob wanted another crack at Steve himself, having met him earlier in the front side semis and losing. The final between Bob and Steve was a little more lopsided than Bob would have liked. Steve was simply in the zone. The first four games hinged on one mistake in each game - a missed shot or a poor safety or an ill-timed foul – and, just like that, the score was 2-2. Those were the only two games Bob would win. Steve took advantage of Bob by either forcing errors with great safeties, good pushes or just Steve Lingelbach plain great shot making. Steve shut Bob (2nd place/$960) down, winning the next 6 games and proving himself a great champion and more than worthy of GrandMaster status.
2nd Chance
While all the regular divisions were playing out, there was more competition to be had. All divisions offered 2nd Chance Tournaments to players who finished out of the money. 9 of the 14 divisions filled brackets for 2nd Chance Tournaments. These were all $10 a stick, single elimination brackets with slightly shorter races. Results: MMSD (19 entered): 1st – Kenny Dodd/Susan Preston ($140), 2nd – Junior Sardoncillo/Deby Welfringer ($70). OMSD (29 entered): 1st – Roy Chevalier/Robin Adams ($200), 2nd – Shane Palmer/Berni Michel ($100). MAS (44 entered): 1st – Charlie Burnett ($100), 2nd – Travis DeJong ($60). MBS (55 entered): 1st – Jose Villa ($200), 2nd – Greg Barquist ($100). MSS (12 entered): 1st – John Aranda ($50), 2nd – Steve Marker ($30). WAS (15 entered): 1st – Robin Adams ($65), 2nd – Julie Goodman ($45). WBS (13 entered): 1st – Teri Klyzek ($85), 2nd – Laura Smith ($25). MMT (21 entered): 1st – 3 Shoguns/Fred Matzke, Akio Nakashima, Robert Niemeyer ($250), 2nd – Ralph’s Crew/Jim Barth, Kevin Fong, Bill Henderson ($125). MBT (17 entered): 1st – Plan B/Bryan Bernard, Cody Garner, Brian Goodrow ($245), 2nd – RBS/Ray Bray, Scott Gentry, Brian Hanson ($125)

Men’s/Mixed Teams
As the singles divisions were winding down, the teams were coming in to get started on Friday evening. The largest division, Men’s/Mixed Teams, had 99 teams all hoping to win the $3210 1st place prize. By Sunday afternoon, there were two teams in the final, each arriving there from opposite directions. LTD’s Hammertime (Dexter Ambang, Davyn Arscott, Gary Sankey) came the long way around, losing their 1st match and having to win eleven matches to get to the final. Their last obstacle before the final was NPL’s Men of the People (Charlie Burnett, Bill Ermatinger, Steve Tune) who gotten to the point match and lost. Hammertime wasn’t ready to call it a day after winning 10 matches and beat Men of the People (3rd place/$1710) 11-5 to get into the final. In the meantime, LTD’s Cues Brothers (Cody Davyn Arscott, Dexter Ambang, Gary Sankey Clark, Greg Odal, Scott Perry) went all the way to the final unbeaten. The first set was Hammertime over Cues Brothers 11-7. The second set was a repeat of the first with Hammertime winning 11-7 again and leaving Cues Brothers in 2nd place/$2340 and completing the double dip.
W Men’s/Mixed B Teams E S T E R Women’s Teams N The Men’s/Mixed B Teams had 55 teams playing for $1590 and the division championship. The eventual finalists, NPL’s Brunswick Kings (Matt McInnis, Todd Molinari, Scott Pahl) and CPL’s Amateur Hour (Blake Fierro, Chris Nicol, Eddie Parenti) were, unfortunately, in the same half of the bracket and met in the match just prior to the point match. Brunswick Kings beat Amateur Hour 11-8 as they went on to the point match against EYOCUES B (Sandro Menzel, Mike Schamens, Robert Strom) and sending EYOCUES B to the backside. EYOCUES B lost to Amateur Hour and finished in 3rd place/$810 and the final was set.
Again it would be a two setter and again there would be a double dip. Amateur Hour won the first set 11-4 and the second 11-8 as they sent Brunswick Kings (2nd place/$1125) packing.

Chris Nicol, Blake Fierro, Eddie Parenti
Last but not least were the Women’s Teams. There were 53 teams, all going after the $1920 first place prize. NPL’s Carissa’s Crew (Carissa Biggs, Dara Koch, Kim Toops) and CPL’s Diamond Cutters (Melyssa Chasteen, Kira North, Jennifer Windell) met in the point match, with Carissa’s Crew winning 9-6. Diamond Cutters went to the backside to, hopefully, win one match and get into the final and exact revenge on Carissa’s Crew. LTD’s Poolalicious (Lisa Foster, Cassie Francios, Angie Verhoeven) had the same idea but there was only one spot left in the final and Poolalicious (3rd place/$990) didn’t quite make it. Carissa’s Crew would need only one set to claim the title, beating Diamond Cutters (2nd place/ Dara Koch, Carissa Biggs, Kim Toops $1380) 9-7. That brought to a close the 2015 9-Ball Championships. The final Champion was crowned, the tables were being taken down and out. We’ll do it all again in March. Results p38

Ewa Laurance Wins Hall of Fame Challenge Cup
Trick Shot Magic, always garnering respectable ESPN viewership, never fails to please. Andy Segal was not to regain his title as it was Internet sensation Florian “Venom” Kohler’s time to turn the tables. Nick Nikolaidis, again, lost on the Sudden Death, 8 railer where the cue baller that lands nearer the 100 dollar bill moves on to the final. Nick lost the lag and World Draw Shot Champion Gabi Visiou, wisely, asked him to shoot first: It’s the smart way to learn the
speed of the Simonis. Expert jump shots, performed at the speed of light as players galloped round the table to screech to a sudden stop, raise their leg with knees cocked and stab at object balls with their cue sticks. This kept the audience amused as take after take was captured on tape. Skill shots had balls pocketed 3 rails after contact, superb masse´s, and draw shots executed while the cue ball was still in motion had Venom and Gabi in close combat until at 6, Venom struck ahead and sealed the championship at 9. Although the order of airing has not been determined, scheduled ESPN dates for all of the Billiards International events are December 13, 20, and 27. It was as cold as a meat locker in the tournament room until ESPN tuned up the lights. Add the standing room only crowds and it was soon as sweltering as you’d expect in Southern Florida. That was not all that was hot: How about Ewa Laurance 4-1, 4-2 stellar play over Jeanette Lee in event’s opening Hall of Fame Challenge? Jeanette, with her rock star itinerary, was way out of stroke. Ewa, killer instinct intact, devoured The Black Widow. The loss didn’t faze the fans as the line formed to get Lee’s valuable signature on the Billiards International event program. Ewa added another trophy to her vast collection. Although the order of airing has not been determined, scheduled ESPN dates for all of the Billiards International events are December 13, 20, and 27. The Tournament of Champions, the highly regarded women’s event opened with last year’s finalists, Kelly Fisher, and Allison Fisher–no relation, unlike brother and sister, Albin and Jasmin Ouschan. This year the roles, and rolls, were reversed as Allison, in the shorter races to 4, recovered after a 2-4 loss in the first set to prevail 4-3 in the second. After the climactic Sudden Death, race to one, Kelly confessed, “I gave it away but Allie maintained and deserved the win.” Korea’s Ga-Young Kim, always a contender, didn’t let Jasmine breathe as she was smothered 4-0 in the first set in semi’s #2. Jasmine, frustrated as she wasn’t given much opportunity, managed only one game in the second. Graciously, she signed autographs as she sadly exited the arena. Brother and sister could commiserate on their way back to Europe. Allison knew that she had to make every opportunity count yet Ga Young Kim was still unwavering in her determination. Gallantly, Allison got to 3-3 before Kim, alas, secured the first set. Behind 2-3 in the second, Fisher left a well played safety, snookering her opponent. Out came the jump cue. Masterfully, Kim speared the blinded ball into the pocket. Calmly, she sank the remaining 8 and 9 to run off $16,000 richer. Although the order of airing has not been determined, scheduled ESPN dates for all of the Billiards International events are December 13, 20, and 27. LAUREN WARD Goes Undefeated Diamond Billiards in Fresno, CA is a new addition to the Tiger West Coast Women’s Tour for the 2015 session. Sheri Dadian and her mother, Patricia Coppock Oliver, opened their doors and their hearts to the 26 participants who came from many different locations. For this stop we added ten new names to the regular roster of players. Sheri Dadian captured everyone’s heart with her attention and care for the players. She welcomed everyone and throughout the entire weekend tended to everyone herself. This was probably the first time we have ever had such a close rapport with a sponsor. Sheri’s family has owned pool halls for a hundred years. She has been the owner of Diamond Billiards for 11 years. She used to be the owner of the other Diamond billiards in Modesto, and Reno, Nevada. She keeps very busy at her location, actively running leagues such as APA, NAPA, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thursday and Sunday she runs her open-mix travelling leagues. She also holds two stops for the Mezz tour, for a fee of $2000. For this event Diamond Billiards had a combination of great equipment and a mix of salads and sandwiches complementing the regular menu. Lauren Ward, a new player to the Tour, won matches against Cynthia Salcedo, Stephanie Hefner, and Ashley Herr to set herself for a match in the top four. One of the newest addition to the tour, Sara Thomas, defeated Sondra Faith, Rose Bate, and Kendra Fuller to face Lauren Ward on Sunday. It was very exciting to have two new players be playing in the winner’s bracket. Minnie Tayaotao would get a bye in her first match, and win matches against Tammy Delgado and May Tcha to gain a spot for Sunday match against Lindsey Dorn who also had a bye and won matches against Gigi Callejas, and Janna Sue Nelson. On the one-loss side players had to win four matches to earn the opportunity to come back on Sunday. Revelina Um would rally against Ashley Herr, and Janna Sue against Cony Mendoza. This was the first time Ashley and Cony would place on top 8 this year. Cony’s final standings last year was top 13.
Tiger West Coast Women’s Tour Matches for Sunday on winner’s side: Lauren Ward vs. Sara Thomas / Minnie Tayaotao vs. Lindsey Dorn Matches for Sunday on one-loss side: Revelina Um vs. Ashley Herr / Janna Sue Nelson vs. Cony Mendoza This stop turned out to be even more special as we had mother May and daughter Ashley participate and compete head to head against the rest of players. The battle for the catbird seat was between Lauren Ward and Lindsey Dorn. Lauren would take the match and wait for the winner of the final match between Minnie and Lindsey. Lindsey would be the sole survivor of the one-loss side. She would have another opportunity against Lauren Ward. The final score would be 7-4 in favor of Lauren. Lauren Ward lives in Long Beach. She started playing in SFPA pool association, about 36 years ago. She is a charter inductee into SFPA’s hall of fame. She has won 3 national titles: APA women’s singles in 2000, BCA senior 2001, BCA open 2006. She uses a Tiger shaft and had her cue case and playing cue engraved. Lauren was part of the Tour when Julie Hunter ran it many years ago. She plays 5 different leagues and does cash tournaments every day. Our main sponsor continues to donate Tiger products to be raffled at each stop, as well as a cue for our big prize at the end of the season. Our newest sponsor, Ozone Billiards, donates a cue case at every stop. As always, we want to thank our regular sponsors for 2015: Tony Kalamaryan, President of Tiger Products, Don Akerlow of On The Break News, Ozone Billiards, Cony Mendoza, Diablo Valley Pool Leagues. If you enjoy women’s pool, please support the rooms and businesses that support our sport. Come out and join the fun. Women of all skill levels are welcome. Visit our website www.twcwt.com and our Facebook page Tiger West Coast Women’s Tour for more information.

Win Jim’s Money SALEM, OR In the final “Win Jim’s Money” open tournament of the season, we had a new winner who had yet to win this season. In fact, the winner blazed through the field without a defeat. In the battle for 4th, Tricia Tipton took out Jim Anderson who settled for 5th/6th and $25. In the other match for the right to play for 3rd, Cristy Barsky took on Randy Baker. Cristy reports she was dead in the water, all but lost. Baker had her down 5 to 1, but Barsky stormed back and won the match. Baker settled for 5th/6th and took his $25. Tricia Tipton, having to go to work, was unable to meet Barsky, and forfeited her spot, settling for 4th place and $60.00. Had she defeated Barsky, a potential matchup between spouse’s could have been cataclysmic. Drama diverted. On the winners side, Tony Tipton had lost to Resse Alvaran for the point. Tony, perhaps too happy to have not had to play his wife, lost his mojo and fell to Barsky. Tony settled for 3rd place and took his $80, reluctantly. Now, it was up to Barsky to cool off a hot Resse Alvaran. Alvaran stayed hot and defeated Barsky handily, 5 to 1 to claim the win and $ 190. Barsky took 2nd place and $135. November’s tournament is restricted to the top 16 point winners from the regular season. This tournament is for the season championship. Entry for this one is $15 and features the most prize money of the year. The November tournament will be held November 14th at 10:00am. Don’t be late! Alternates will be assigned according to final point totals.

BELLEVUE, WA Suzanne Smith, looking to punctuate her standing as the 2015 Northwest Women’s Pool Association champion on the tour’s final event of the season. She made it all the way to the hot seat, before running into Kimberly Kirk in the finals. Kirk, playing in only her second event of the year, and looking for only her second win on the tour since 2002, won three matches on the loss side for the right to meet Smith, and then downed her in the finals. The $500-added event, streamed by R2R, drew 23 entrants. After giving up a total of only seven racks, over three matches (to Kim Toops, Kirsten Ferry, and Fran Johnson, Kirk was sent to the loss side in a double hill match, won by Patricia Tipton in a winners’ side semifinal. Smith, in the meantime, defeated Liz Cole 7-3 in the other winners’ side semifinal. Smith claimed the hot seat 7-4 over Tipton, and waited on the return of Kirk, or K2, as she was called throughout the live stream. On the loss side, Kirk picked up Michelle Hughes, who’d won four matches on the loss side to reach her, including a double hill win over Jessica Aarhaus, and 6-3 victory over Mary Coffman. Cole drew

The closest that Kirk had come to victory on the tour since 2002 was a runner-up finish to Cole in 2011. She got her threeyear-delayed vengeance against Cole in the quarterfinals, defeating her 6-3 and moving on for a re-match versus Tipton. She took care of that, too, defeating Tipton 6-3, for a shot at Smith. Kirk stayed steady in the finals, while Smith showed some vulnerability. Don’t Lose Your Head Tourney at the Scoop by: Matt Moffet, Tournament Director BOZEMAN, MT We had a great day of singles VNEA pool! The ‘Don’t Lose You Head Tourney’ had a strong turnout of very good players making for some great matches and great sportsmanship. Format for the tourney was a set of dual single elimination brackets, so everyone started in the first bracket and once you lost, then you were placed into the lower bracket. The top two players that got into the money on the top bracket, couldn’t go into the lower bracket. Getting into the money required you to win all the way to the top match for first or second in either of the two brackets, with the top bracket having a higher payout. As per se the name of the tourney ‘Don’t Lose You Head Tourney’ . Wonderful pulled pork sandwiches, pumpkin pies, deviled eggs were provided for lunch and other goodies. There were also free giveaways too, from bags of candy bars to free Scoop Bar gear. We also got to watch all of the football games, with the many new TV’s and sports package that Scoop started last year and keeps improving. There was some very quick tourney play with Nate Neergard and Cody Jones

Dustin Juvan and Dave Biesel this different format, so it allowed the winners to keep playing, while the lag in the brackets occurred later in the second bracket, but was minimal. The overall timing of the tourney went very well and was more enjoyable, in some ways, then the usual double elimination bracket. The game-play format was our basic overall rules, VNEA 8-ball, race to three, lag or coin toss to decide who breaks first, and alternating breaks. Congrats to Dustin Juvan, Dave Biesel, Cody Jones, and Nate Neergard who managed to keep their heads and make it to the finals! Chris Gleed rial May 5, 1987 - Sept. 6, 2015
HELENA, MT Christopher “Chris” Gleed left his world on Sunday September 6th. Chris was born on May 5, 1987. Chris attended the Helena public school system, graduating from Helena High School in 2005. Chris was active in sports from a young age, excelling at all sports he competed in, winning gold/silver medals at the Montana Junior Olympics, competing in stateside basketball tournaments and played as a linebacker and running back in football. After high school Chris began honing his love of pool, playing much more seasoned payers at O’Tooles Bar. This competition led Chris to become an avid pool player, winning many tournaments at the local and state level and competing in multiple world and international tournaments and being sought after by local area teams. Chris participated in several Eagles District/State pool tournaments representing the FOE 16 teams. Chris had a smile like no other … inviting, infectious, and always

genuine. Chris could energize a room just by walking in. He was always the one person that could just “roll with the punches”, not sweating the small stuff. He was the person who could be alone in a town, surrounded by people he didn’t know, and within a few hours, he would have a room full of friends and a ride home. Chris was a kind and caring soul, always putting others before himself. It was not uncommon to witness Chris approach a homeless or less fortunate person and give them a pack of cigarettes, a beer, food, or even or literally the shirt off his back. Even though Chris left this world too soon, in 28 years, Chris touched the hearts of more people than most do in a lifetime. Chris is survived by his three geez, Garrett, Gavin and Grace, parents Bill and Carol Gleed, brothers Robby (Roma) Gleed, Kory (Joscelyn) Gleed, Grandmother Dolly Gleed, and fur child Gabby. Chris is also survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and the entire Helena pool community. Chris is gone, but never forgotten!

Dave Piona Memorial
CONCORD, CA The Diablo Valley Pool league hosted the 9th Annual Dave Piona Memorial tournament last Aug 29th, 2015. It was another successful event and it drew total of 50 players, including 10 women. Players came from Sacramento, Vacaville/Fairfield areas, Daly City, Livermore; as well as all over Contra Costa County. As we all know Dave Piona was not only a personal friend to us but he was also instrumental on the developing of our pool clinics and teaching the basics of the game of pool to our new players. His friendly disposition and great demeanor will always

Cristina Piona and daughter Astar showed up to the event to welcome everyone and thank everyone for participating in the celebration of Dave’s memory. DVPOOL and Christina Piona joined efforts and made the pot juicier by adding a total of $500 to the pot. Let me also take this opportunity to thank Jeanne and Parker the owners of Vinnie’s Bar for offering a delicious barbecue and allowing us to host the event. We played a double elimination with a race to two on the winner side and race to 1 on the 1 loss side. Congratulations to Feras Qaddoura (Alias aka 60), one of our local Dvpool shooters who shot lights out this day, winning the event. He came back from the looser side and fought his way back to challenge Jeff H., who was sitting in the “catbird seat”.

Memorial courtesy of Deby Welfringer Don was born May 3, 1940 and lived in Seattle has a child and young adult. His mother died when he was your and was raised by his father and step-mother. As a kid he loved playing pool and pinball and as he became an adult he learned how to cheat the pinball machines to make enough money to have a weekly route from town to town. Don moved to California and played out of Cochran’s Pool Room. During this time is when he met his wife Rose. In 1960 Don and Rose had their first child Donna, their second was a son. David was born in 1963 and then came Cyndie in 1970. In 1975 Don earned his pilot license and in 1976 he landed his first job in Alaska. He packed his family and headed for the last frontier. Don was a commercial bus pilot for many years. He’d fly over glaciers, to small isolated villages, the North Slope and loved being in the sky. In 1978 Don and Rose divorced (but he always said to the end Rose was the love of his life). In 2008 he moved back to the Seattle area living the player’s life. Tournaments every night of the week and sometimes 3 tournaments a day. He played in the Steve Mizerick’s Senior Tour with all the greats. He played the local small and big tournaments, traveled all over the USA for tournaments. He loved nature, hiking and just being in the wilderness. Something you might not know is that Don was highly self-educated and could converse on just about any subject especially history. We will all miss his subtle sense of humor, the way he scuffed his feet when he walked and all the pool knowledge that he took with him. May Peace be with you Don Wirtaman. You will be greatly missed by your family and the many friends that you have shared your life with. We have posted a video tribute to Don on Youtube http://youtu.be/hA43JmLhLg0

CHAMPIONS
The Challenge of Champions, in its 24th year on ESPN, pitted Shane Van Boening against Holland’s 2014 World 9-Ball Champion Niels Feijen. With the Dutchman taking the first set 5-4, and having opportunity to take the 2nd at 4-4, Niels fell to the comeback power of SVB. The Sudden Death, race to one, formula proved fatal for Feijen as Shane’s nerves never faltered and he was into the finals. Austrian, 2015 China Open Champion Albin Ouschannow faced 2014 Challenge winner Germany’s Thorsten Hohmann. Albin, stoic, never strayed from the task in hand. His calm composure assisted as he took the first set 5-4. Thorsten, with huge wins this year as he capture his 4th World Cup if 14.1 and CSI’s US Open 10-Ball Championship at the Rio, was at a loss and, uncharacteristically, began to err. At 5-2, Albin sealed the deal and was off to the finals and a face-off with Shane. Still in stroke, Ouschan shook Shane as he snared the first set, handily, at 5-3. In an earlier conversation with Paul Smith, Diamond’s table set-up maestro, Shane confided, ”The Challenge of Champions is the tournament that I saw on ESPN that motivated me to become a pro. I really want to win this one.” It didn’t look like it was going to happen this year either. In the 2nd set, Albin took an early lead. It wasn’t until the 2nd game that nerves reared heir ugly head. Retired WPBA pro Mary Kenniston, cheerleading from the bleachers, chimed her support. “Come on Shane, let’s go!” Solid as a rock, punishing Albin for every minor error, Van Boening sped up the hill, and at 5-1, we were at Sudden Death: One game for the title–and the $25,000 first place prize money. Bupkis for second. Ouschan was shaking now, not visibly, but on the inside he later shared. Shane didn’t look too comfortable either as makable balls were missed by both players. But, it was Albin’s scratch, with only 2
balls on the table, that added another notch to Shane’s accomplishments while eliminating a lifetime goal on his bucket list. Albin was devastated. “I’ve never felt nerves like that before. Even when I was in the finals playing for $40,000. Maybe, it was the thought of not winning anything that scared me. At least in the China Open, I knew that i had 20,000 coming.” Billiards International promotor, Gregg Hovey, added, “These tournaments are the most brutal out there. It takes great courage to maintain championship composure.”
Being a four week old dad can do that: Our congratulations to Albin on the birth of his daughter, Lene Sophie. Although the order of airing has not been determined, scheduled ESPN dates for all of the Billiards International events are December 13, 20, and 27. Mark your calendars, set your smart phones, these shows offer some of the closest, drama-filled footage captured to date. Billiards International thanks its sponsors: Diamond Billiard Products, Simonis Cloth and Aramith Balls, Cue Mate, Mueller, Pool Dawg, and Seminole Casino Hotel.
Shane VanBoening posted on Facebook It’s a dream come true to win the 2015 international challenge of champions. 20 years ago, I watched earl Strickland and bustamante on ESPN challenge of champions. That day, I said to myself I wanted to be professional pool player. Today, won my match against Neil feijen on “sudden death”game with me breaking and run on last rack. The Finals match, me and Albin Ouschan won both sets and down to “sudden death” game. We both got to table twice and could not close the game out. I finally got a fortunate role to win the match. To win the ESPN challenge of champions is a mission accomplished and dream come true. Match will be edited and aired on ESPN later in December. Thanks for all the support.
