from: Mary Hopkin SPOKANE - Hsin Huang captured her third consecutive title on the Northwest Women s Pool Association tour at McQ s Billiards in Spokane June 21-22. Huang, a Taiwan native currently living in Vancouver, BC, won $570 and a paid entry into the WPBA Canadian Classic. The tournament was sponsored by McQ s and RT9 Designs, a New York company that designs billiard art and clothing. RT9 owner Linda Pault donated $500 plus a set of four prints and a letterman s jacket for the NWPA to raffle. Pault, who lives in New York, spent the weekend sweating the matches in Spokane as 48 women from Canada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wisconsin battled for the WPBA spot. I love the competition at this level, Pault

said. It s very intense. The tournament action was certainly intense and entertaining for the spectators who watched the competition over the two days. Press coverage from the Spokesman-Review and two local television stations helped bring in more than 40 spectators to watch the two-day tournament. Hsin Huang cruised through the winners bracket comfortably, with wins over Debi Welfringer, 7-5; Julie Burney, 7-1; Julie Valdez, 7-5; Jo Woodward, 7-5; and Mona Remedios, 7-3 before meeting Katherine Czarkowski, also of Vancouver BC, in the finals. Czarkowski beat Morgan Steinman, 7-5; Linda Carter, 7-4; and Andrena Brown, 7-4; before losing to Mona Remedios, 7-1. The VNEA (Valley National 8-Ball Association, Inc.) just concluded it s 23rd Annual International Championships. Pool playing enthusiasts from 49 states and 19 Countries with sanctioned VNEA members of almost 100,000, gathered to compete and claim their title as one of the best in the world. Countries included Argentina, Bahamas, Finland, France, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Republic of Georgia, Russia, Singapore, Spain, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States.
