IMPACT REPORT FISCAL YEAR 2024
IMPACT REPORT FISCAL YEAR 2024
For more than 128 years, The Breakers has thrived as a pillar of American hospitality, rooted in a legacy of history, transformation, and purpose. Our enduring success is driven by an unwavering commitment to social responsibility, guided by our devoted family ownership - heirs of visionary founder Henry M. Flaglerand our Board of Directors.
At the heart of The Breakers is a meaningful and inclusive workplace that prioritizes an employee-centric culture and the personal fulfillment of 2,400 team members. This “people-first” philosophy empowers our staff to reach their greatest potential, enabling them to be the driving force behind increased guest satisfaction, long-term profitability, and broader contributions to philanthropic partnerships and sustainable business practices.
This past year, we enhanced numerous initiatives to support our team’s unique needs; they focus on health, wellness and preventative care, as well as professional development, training and education. In recognition of these efforts, The Breakers was once again named a “Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work” by Fortune Media® and Great Place To Work® for the second consecutive year, and for the first time, among the Fortune 100 Best Large Workplaces for Millennials® and Fortune Best Workplaces for Parents®.
Looking to the future, we are dedicated to championing our core social impact values of team, community and environment. As an entrepreneurial organization, we believe our best contributions are still to come, and that the only thing better than The Breakers today, is The Breakers tomorrow.
With gratitude,
Paul N. Leone

Each quarter, Jet Dental provides mobile oral healthcare for team members and their spouses. This fully functional, pop-up office features private dental stations, preventive cleanings and x-rays with DDS-certified doctors, comprehensive exams, cavity fillings and more. Employees can improve their dental health during work hours, and this arrangement eliminates the time allocated to driving, parking and waiting rooms.
Florida Mobile Mammography
As part of The Breakers growing roster of on-site, preventative exams and diagnostic services to identify potential health risks, the resort debuted a new partnership with Florida Mobile Mammography. This comprehensive practice makes it convenient and easy for employees to receive 3D screenings from a Breast Fellowship Trained Radiologist while at work during scheduled shifts.
Fortunately, no abnormal results were found during the first organized session.
“Coming from a family with a history of cancer, I was pleased The Breakers brought this service on property. The staff was warm, welcoming, and they made me feel very comfortable.”

Graduates
Led by voluntary team members, ERG’s bring employees together who share common characteristics, whether gender, ethnicity, religious affiliation, lifestyle, personal interest or other. Each group’s mission is to continue the advancement of a diverse, inclusive workplace by creating a safe space where employees can bring their whole selves to the table.
Recognizing that mothers, fathers and guardians sometimes need support while juggling dual roles of parent and employee, The Breakers developed and implemented Parent’s Corner to help colleagues balance work, life and caregiving demands. The group brings together new and experienced parents to share personal stories, challenges and referrals, as well as exchange parenting ideas, advice, information and resources. Participants in the group are reassured to learn that their concerns are not unique, finding kinship, camaraderie and comfort whether raising infants, small children, teenagers or young adults.
Recognizing and prioritizing each individual and their unique needs, this comprehensive program was designed based on findings from an internal diversity study and in partnership with Dr. Nicola Finley - an integrative medicine physician. Available for all team members, this course begins with a confidential biometric screening that provides tracked, measurable outcomes to bring awareness to health disparities and prevent chronic disease. Dr. Finley then facilitates group and individual sessions, empowering team members to recognize and discuss actionable steps toward optimal, personalized wellness.
Team members participate during paid work hours and are encouraged to prioritize their health and positively impact fundamental areas of daily life such as nutrition, exercise, spirituality, sleep and more.
“The only thing I can say is I haven’t stopped talking about this program. I told all my coworkers how great it is. Dr. Finley has a wealth of knowledge but speaks in layman’s terms. There is zero judgment and she is eager to spoil us with as much support as possible.”

Empowering managers to increase their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energy capacities, this in-depth training educates and encourages participants to achieve their ultimate mission and maximize personal and professional performance.
During each new-hire orientation, team members also complete Breakthrough to Energy - an extension of Corporate Athlete that teaches the benefits of nutrition and fitness to restore and expand one’s energy capacity.
The Breakers has established a robust partnership with Ferd & Gladys Alpert Jewish Family Services - a non-profit, non-sectarian organization - to provide MHFA training to the resort’s team of managers. MHFA teaches critical communication and support skills that empower participants to identify and extend initial assistance to individuals who show signs of mental health problems, or are experiencing a mental health crisis.
Mental Health is Everyone’s Business (MHEB)
With one in five Americans suffering from some form of mental illness in their lifetime (as cited by Alpert JFS), The Breakers recognized the need to expand mental health training to its entire employee population. In collaboration with Alpert JFS, MHEB (an extension of MHFA) is a virtual training that raises awareness of the role mental well-being plays in both work and non-work lives, while reducing the stigma around mental health challenges and encouraging participants to help others by emphasizing self-care.

Each year, Be Our Guest recognizes one outstanding volunteer from the community who dedicates their personal time, energy and resources to serving others. A recipient is chosen from a selection of nominations and is honored with an all-inclusive stay at the hotel.
In 2024, Mr. William Henthorne with The Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope was selected as the Be Our Guest recipient.
Mr. Henthorne has been a volunteer for 6 years while also fighting his own battle against cancer. Despite his health challenges, Mr. Henthorne is an exceptionally rare volunteer with an unparalleled devotion to support people in need. He delivers food, household products and toys to families touched by cancer. Each day, he goes above and beyond to complete projects like helping with special event preparation such as building signs, stands, platforms and furniture. He also assists patients with financial documentation, all while remaining upbeat and kind to everyone. With his personal health challenges, he serves with even greater empathy and understanding for what patients are going through. His positivity and genuine support are inspiring and truly highlight his selflessness.
This annual event honors the Servant Leadership Award bestowed to our CEO, Paul N. Leone, at the 2014 World Leaders Conference, which emphasizes the importance of giving back as a core component of company culture. This educational, goal-oriented program focuses on three crucial environmental pillars: water, waste and energy. It was designed in partnership with West Palm Beach-based FAU Pine Jog - a LEED-Certified Gold Facility dedicated to developing, researching, and disseminating services to cultivate environmentally educated and engaged communities.
Pine Jog’s programs foster awareness and action that impact more than 35,000 individuals annually in and around Palm Beach County.
This collaboration aims to empower Breakers’ team members to actively participate in the property’s sustainability journey for the future benefit of the company and surrounding communities.
The Breakers proudly sources and serves essential produce from area farms during Florida’s growing season (November through May). The resort also strives to purchase fresh, locally-caught and responsibly-fished or farmed seafood.
The Breakers cultivates a variety of herbs (basil, tarragon, rosemary and several variations of mint), as well as other naturally harvested ingredients on a yearround basis for use in the hotel’s 10 restaurants. The 2,000 square foot garden is a collaboration between the chefs, landscaping team and procurement staff, whose horticulture expertise and eco-friendly best practices produce a plethora of edible plants.
These aromatic greens are 100% organically grown (no synthetic chemicals are used). Natural processes, such as composting, allow the food to flourish in harmony with the surrounding environment.
A select partner since 2017, The Spa at The Breakers is proud to feature Eminence Organic Skin Care®. For every product purchased for treatment and/or guest use, a new tree is planted and a percentage of proceeds supports Eminence Kids Foundation - providing healthy organic meals to kids with cancer.

This non-profit utilizes aquaponics to grow fresh produce and fish to combat food insecurity in South Florida. Over the course of the summer, Breakers’ volunteers helped harvest the produce which was donated to local food pantries.
The Surfrider Foundation is a grassroots, non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches. It provides restaurants with the tools and resources needed to make sustainable choices, which aid in the conservation of coastlines and marine ecosystems.

In 2022, The Breakers joined GSN Planet, a nonprofit trade association that provides education, resources and gatherings for the spa & wellness industry. Through this partnership, The Breakers fosters relationships and shares knowledge with other companies that strive to promote sustainability through responsible business practices, in addition to minimizing the environmental effects from operations.
All 10 restaurants within The Breakers’ dining collection are certified as Ocean Friendly. This coveted accreditation indicates that each establishment follows proper recycling and water conservation practices, features reusable tableware and has discontinued the use of expanded polystyrene products and single-use plastics such as bags, straws and bottles.
The Breakers partners with The Mang Foundation to assist with various mangrove restoration projects. Team members volunteer to re-pot young tropical trees for distribution around the state, which help to protect Florida’s coastline.
Now more than ever, simple hand washing is vital to reduce the spread of infection and disease, which claim the lives of millions of people each year. Since 2011, Clean the World has recycled The Breakers’ partially used soaps and bottled amenities that would otherwise be discarded and distributes them to domestic homeless shelters and impoverished countries experiencing health and hygiene disparities. This effort not only helps the global community, it protects the environment, reduces waste and preserves natural resources.
