AFrom The General Manager
DANIEL A. MORENO, GENERAL MANAGER/COO
daniel.moreno@thebriarclub.com
s we wrap up our fiscal year at The Club, I'm pleased to report that we are on budget and have made significant strides in reducing our debt. A big thank you to Sergio Amelio, our Finance Committee Chair, and the entire finance committee for their hard work in ensuring The Club's financial stability.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the online survey and those who attended the C2 Limited focus groups. We had an impressive 826 members take the survey, reflecting the strong commitment among our membership to ensure The Club's bright future. Growth in clubs, facilities, and services is essential to our identity as a private club. If you didn’t get a chance to submit the survey but have thoughts to share, please stop by—we want to hear your voice. All survey results and comments have been shared with C2 Limited, who will now begin working on the next steps. Exciting times are ahead for The Briar Club!
I am incredibly proud of our Food and Beverage team, led by our Clubhouse Manager, Skyler Gentry, Executive Chef Michael Powell, A La Carte Dining Manager Daniel Cassidy, and Banquet Manager Miguel Rodriguez. We’re on track to finish the fiscal year with an impressive $8 million in food and beverage revenue—significant numbers in the club industry! Of that total, approximately $4.5 million comes from banquet events. A special thank you to our Catering Team; Shawn Rushing, Carolina Palacious, and Sergio Martinez, for their impressive work! The more banquet events we host, the more we can keep member dues low and support various services The Club provides for our members.
I also want to take a moment to recognize our Directors for their outstanding work this fiscal year. Our Swim Team had an undefeated season, our Racquet Sports program is thriving, and our Fitness Center has introduced grab-and-go food options along with additional classes. Meanwhile, our Youth team continues to create amazing events for our younger members.
Many of you may not see the behind-the-scenes efforts here at The Club, but I encourage you to reach out for a tour. You’ll get to meet team members like Brooke Beatty, who leads our Communications Department, and Mauricio Yanes, our Director of Human Resources, who manages over 200 employees during peak season. Our Accounting team also plays a crucial role in ensuring statements are sent out promptly.
Congratulations to Linda Benson on a very successful year in Membership! Did you know she has been with us for 13 years and has signed up 80% of our current members during that time?
Exciting things are on the horizon for our already outstanding Club. It’s a wonderful time to be part of The Briar Club family. Here’s to a strong finish in 2024 and a memorable 2025 ahead! We have some amazing things planned for 2025. As always, my door is open for any thoughts or ideas you’d like to share.
Best ,
Daniel A. Moreno
IPresident
MELISSA STRYKER, 2024 PRESIDENT BOARD OF DIRECTORS
t’s fall, y’all, and the holidays are right around the corner. As the fiscal year 2025 begins at The Club, the calendar year 2024—and my term as President—are winding down. Though the end of my term is near, The Club remains in excellent, capable hands with the current and oncoming members of the Board of Directors and The Club’s management team.
Over this year, The Club has offered bigger and better programming and events, and has completed important projects, such as the renovation of the Competition Lap Pool and surrounding hardscape—all aimed at improving the members’ experience. Additionally, The Club has taken affirmative steps on a path of prudent future growth by hiring the architecture firm C2 Limited to formulate a Strategic Plan for The Club. Pursuant to that task, C2 Limited remains engaged in assessing our campus’s facilities, amenities, and services, and consulting with Club management, leadership, and membership through meetings, focus groups, and surveys. Ultimately, C2 Limited will provide The Club with a Strategic Plan with short-, mid-, and long-term ideas and solutions for potential modifications and additions to The Club which will help maximize efficiency and utility of existing facilities and offerings, as well as expand our facilities and offerings when feasible to ease compaction and allow for burgeoning interests. These efforts will not only ensure that The Club continues to be the best that it can be for our current membership, but also will keep our Club up-to-date, relevant, and economically viable in our market—which is essential to safeguard the long-term health and prosperity of The Club. Please stay tuned for more on the horizon and stay engaged in this process; this is your Club and your input matters. The future of The Club is bright, but it shines even brighter when The Club’s management, leadership, and membership communicate, keep an open mind, and work together. I am excited to see what’s next for our Club and I’m sure that you are, too.
Speaking of excitement, The Club has held several events over this year to commemorate The Club’s 75th Anniversary, and more are in store—not least of which will be the 75th Anniversary Gala on Friday, November 15, 2024. Not only are these events a neat way to celebrate and honor The Club’s history and traditions, but they are wonderful opportunities to socialize and celebrate with your fellow members. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend the Gala, so please mark it in your calendar and get ready to party!
Lastly, I’d like to extend a few words of thanks to some of the people who have made my service on the Board of Directors and as President special: to Daniel Moreno and Kari Foster, for their management and financial expertise and advice, which has helped inform and guide me regarding optimal Club operations; to the members of the Board of Directors, both current and past, for their tireless and selfless dedication to The Club; to my husband, Kevin, for his patience and understanding on the occasions when Club business was especially consuming; and to my best friend, Amy Munger, for encouraging me to be brave and run for the Board of Directors in the first place (which I agreed to do only after our conversation and a little “liquid courage” from one of Nikki Wilson’s amazing martinis)
It has been an honor to serve you, and I look forward to seeing you around The Club. Cheers!
Best , Melissa Stryker

The only constant in life is CHANGE, so as we embark upon the next Fiscal Year, we embrace the spirit of change by adopting a new FY 2025 Budget and continuing to re-engineer our processes to ensure optimal efficiency. During FY 2024, we transitioned our 401K plan over to Mutual of America, which provided increased 401K education and boosted enrollment, helping employees prepare for the future. We introduced a discount program for (hotels, car rentals, pet insurance, etc.) for employees as a perk though our healthcare brokers. This program did not cost The Briar Club anything and added more benefits to employees. We completed the FY 2025 Budget in a collaborative process that met the needs of the operation and kept the increase to a minimum for members.
DUES INCREASE FOR FY 2025
Per the needs of FY 2025, a $10 per member per month increase for both Operating & Capital Maintenance Dues was approved by the Board in the September 2024 Board Meeting. This increase will begin on September 30, 2024 statements, as all dues are billed in advance. So, the dues on the September 2024 statement will be recognized and earned in October 2024, which is the first month of the next fiscal year.
Please see the FY 2025 Dues Amounts below:

PAPERLESS STATEMENTS
Prior to June 30, 2024, we began to notify that members' statements would become paperless and anticipated that June 30, 2024 would be the timing of the transition. We will officially “go live” and move to paperless statements with the September 30, 2024 statements. Please note that all members will receive the September 30, 2024 member statement via email “paperless”, unless you have previously notified billing@thebriarclub.com or sent back a notice to indicate you still want to receive a paper statement. Please let us know if you have any questions about the process.
CHEERS TO FY 2025
As we move to a new fiscal year, let us embrace change. The Briar Club currently enjoys a robust Equity Membership Waitlist. As this demand fluctuates in the future, it is and will always be important to not only maintain the “look and feel” of The Club, but also the functionality. We look forward to the findings from C2 Limited Design Associates, as they imagine a new footprint of the campus to include all things important to members.
Cheers to the future!
