reetings Members,

It’s hard to believe we are already more than halfway through 2024. As we continue to celebrate 75 years here at The Club, please stay tuned for details regarding our 75th Anniversary Gala planned for later this year. Recently, we established an internal committee called the Touch Point Committee, consisting of about 10 employees from various departments. Their task is to meticulously examine and enhance the overall membership experience. From your arrival at the parking garage or valet to the parking garage elevator or crosswalk, we are dedicated to reviewing and improving every single touch point. I hope you will notice the many great improvements coming from this committee in the months ahead.

FOCUS GROUPS / C2 LIMITED DESIGN ASSOCIATES

Thank you to all the members who attended the focus group sessions with C2 Limited. Craig with C2 Limited reported that we received a wealth of valuable feedback. Member input is crucial when embarking on a new campus plan, and your contributions are greatly appreciated. The next phase of this process will include a member survey. If you were unable to attend any of the focus groups, please ensure you participate in the survey. Should you have additional input regarding our campus, feel free to send it my way, and I will make sure it reaches C2 Limited. You can always email me at Daniel. Moreno@thebriarclub.com.

SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Congratulations to the three recipients of The Briar Club Employee Scholarship Fund. Jaiden Arias, the son of our facilities director Jesse, will be attending Texas A&M this Fall. Lennyn Perez, the son of our maintenance team member Oscar Perez, will be a senior at Texas Tech this Fall. Alexis Tzul, who works in our food and beverage operations, will be a junior this Fall at the University of Houston, majoring in Hospitality. Congratulations to these remarkable students and thank you to The Briar Club membership for your continued support.

KIDS ON THE TENNIS COURTS

There will be a new sheriff in town in the upcoming weeks. We will be implementing new measures to ensure the proper use of our tennis courts during nightly dining. Due to the persistent issues of children running on the courts, emptying cups, spilling drinks, and food, we will be staffing security personnel to monitor the area. Our security team will be on hand to ensure that children stay off the courts during these busy nights. Parents, please refer to the house rules, which state that children must remain off the courts.

Thank you all for your continued support. As I write this, I am preparing for our inaugural “Dinner with the GM” event and eagerly anticipate engaging with many of you about your Club. As always, my door is open, and I look forward to seeing you around The Club! Best ,

TFrom The

President

ents, umbrellas, and sun sails have gone up around The Club; activity at the pools, Breezes, and the Barracuda Café is increasing; temperatures are rising. This can mean only one thing—school is out and summer is here!

As always, The Club has tons of exciting summer events coming up, so be sure to check the weekly Beacon, The Club calendar, The Club app, or The Club’s new-and-improved website for event descriptions and registration information. The only thing that would make these events better is YOU, so sign up, have fun, and repeat!

Since my last letter, The Club has partnered with C2 Limited Design Associates, a boutique hospitality and architecture firm, who will develop a strategic campus plan for The Club. This plan will outline near-, mid-, and long-term goals for not only The Club’s campus and facilities, but also our amenities, programming, and services—all aimed at making our Club the best it can be for current and prospective members over the years to come. Hopefully you received an email from The Club advertising numerous focus group sessions related to various aspects of The Club (e.g., racquet sports, fitness, youth, aquatics, dining, etc.), which were hosted by C2 Limited in the End Zone on June 19 and 20. Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend one or more of these sessions.

If you weren’t able to participate in any of the focus group sessions, however, please be on the lookout for upcoming opportunities to engage with C2 Limited, Club management, and your fellow members in the strategic-planning process. Your opinions, insight, and ideas matter, and we want your help to shape the vision for our Club’s future.

I wish all of you and your families a safe and fun summer, and I look forward to seeing you around The Club.

Kari m. Foster CCM, CFO kari.foster@thebriarclub.com

As we move into the end of FY 2024 and embark on building the FY 2025 Budget, we continue to be transparent in the process. Past results serve as a guide, but the plan should be forwardlooking. Using creativity and diversity in thinking, we will continue to plan effectively and “WOW” membership with unique Club events, robust dining offerings, thoughtful programming, and responsible budgeting.

To be effective in club management is to understand the operation and to understand how decisions impact the bottom line. Maintaining integrity in everything we do sets an important example for staff and to membership that we can be trusted to take care of The Club and all assets, including physical, financial, and our most important asset class, which are people or human capital. When trust is broken, it is difficult to reestablish, as such, we remain diligent to continue to show up in an authentic manner and be trustworthy.

It is important to anticipate needs, set meaningful goals, execute plans, and deliver consistent performance. That is the overarching idea of a business philosophy called, “Kaizen,” translated as continuous improvement. Whatever the goal or how insurmountable the project appears to be, progress is certain when you work toward the goal in a consistent manner. It is by doing the right things every day when no one is watching. It is striving for excellence in every action. It is communicating effectively to engage membership and staff in the efforts.

The future is bright, as The Briar Club is certainly in a growth period. We look forward to FY 2025 with a substantial membership waitlist, adequate resources, and responsible management, who acts with a continuous improvement mindset. Continued success is possible by encouraging behaviors and traits that are everlasting. By demonstrating integrity in the numbers and everyday actions, honesty in the representation and communication of efforts, and consistency in performance and results, our members can rest assured that The Club will remain viable in the years to come.

Cheers to the future!

Best, Kari M. Foster CCM

On behalf of the Scholarship Committee, we are proud to announce the recipients of The Briar Club Employee Scholarship Fund.

I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Financial Planning! With this degree I have hopes of becoming a certified financial planner and wealth manager. I found my love for financial planning by watching endless videos on investment strategies and IRAs; I was astonished by the endless knowledge available on these interesting subjects. I am extremely excited to attend A&M, the aggie bond is very strong! Aside from school and homework, I enjoy Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, and traveling.

I'm pursuing a major in Civil Engineering at Texas Tech University and immersing myself in the dynamic world of infrastructure and construction. Texas Tech's rigorous academic environment and cutting-edge facilities provide the ideal backdrop for my studies, allowing me to explore my passion for designing and building structures that shape our communities. I am excited to apply my knowledge and skills gained here to contribute meaningfully to the field of civil engineering upon graduation.

I am currently pursuing a Business Management major with a Beverage Management and Marketing minor. I became interested in these fields due to working at The Briar Club and working in the hospitality industry. This will be my first semester at the University of Houston and I am excited as I’ve heard great things about it from coworkers. I am also interning at the Houston Symphony. I am excited to enter this new chapter and look forward to the challenges it will bring along.

The existence of the Employee Scholarship Fund is solely due to the incredible generosity displayed by you, our members. We express our heartfelt gratitude for your dedication to fostering higher education opportunities and enhancing the lives of Briar Club employees and their families.

We partner with the Greater Houston Community Foundation (GHCF) to manage investments, administer the paperwork and application process, and evaluate and select the grantees based on criteria set by the Scholarship Committee. If you would like to make a donation, please visit ghcf.org/donation-ghcf. Under Fund Designation, please notate Briar Club Scholarship Fund.
