Spring has sprung and Summer is here! Wow, I can hardly believe July is already here! I think we can all agree that we had an amazing Spring season. Now that the heat is here, it is time to cool off in our amazing resort style pool. As I walk around the Club, I am asked from time to time how we are doing? I’m happy to let you all know that during our second quarter, 74 of your friends, family members and business associates joined our Briar Club family! A big thank you for all the referrals. With all the renovations complete, NOW is the time to re-introduce the Club to that friend that wanted to wait. Have you attended one of our Member Mixers? If not, you are missing out on a great opportunity to mix and mingle with your fellow members of the Club. Mark your calendars for the next mixer!

AGES 9+ Monday - Thursday $20 per child, per day

5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

DDT: During a doubles match, an opponent’s shot struck a towel that was hanging over the top of the net near the net post. The ball dribbled over and fell on our side. I returned the shot, but ran into the net. I then gave the point to my opponents because I ran into the net. But should my opponents have lost the point because their shot hit the towel?

BRIDGE Monday - Thursday $30 per child/per day

4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

ADVANCED Monday - Thursday $30 per child/per day

4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

12 & Under Winner: Garrett Masterson

12 & Under Finalist: Joseph Marshall

12 & Under Consolation Winner: Tyler Shen

J OSE P H MAR SHAL L

A: This is three issues in one: (1) While The Code, Item 46, says you shouldn’t put a towel on the net, if someone drapes one over the net, it becomes part of the net, so a ball striking it is no different from it striking the net cord. (2) Since it was a legal shot, there would have been no reason for you to stop play. (3) Good on you for conceding the point (The Code, Item 19).

AQUATICS 2017 BARRACUDA SWIM TEAM This season, we were able to pull off another undefeated record, winning all six of our swim meets, in addition to winning first overall at the Annual Invitational, held at The University of Houston.

JON DILER

Aquatics Director (713) 552-2126 poolmanager@thebriarclub.com The Aquatics staff at The Briar Club works hard to make sure that our members enjoy the highest standards while using the pools at the club. Our job is to create a safe environment in and around the pool. You may see our lifeguards practicing their water rescue, first aid, CPR, and AED skills at various times around the club. We host two in service trainings each week to have lifeguards practice their skills, and run emergency drills. In addition to all of our in-house training, we hire a 3rd party company to perform 3 external audits of our lifeguards throughout the summer at random times. In these audits, the lifeguards are videotaped on the lifeguard stand while performing surveillance, and then run through mock emergency drills, and are graded. The aquatics staff does all of this to ensure that you and your family are as safe as possible while at the club, and so you can focus on relaxing and enjoying the summer weather.
