Experience, service and quality of product are vital requirements for survival over time in any commercial field of endeavour, but to have an unbroken history of 100 years in any industry is a rarely achieved event.

Next year the Boyce Family who have been in the glass and glazing industry for four generations, will be celebrating a century of involvement in all aspects of the Traditional Leadlight and the Glass and Glazing sector. Thirty of those years have been in Western Australia providing a complete Commercial and Domestic Glass and Glazing and Traditional Leadlight services.

The original family business was founded in Birmingham, UK by the great, great grandfather of the current Director of Boyce Western Glass, Philip Boyce.

Over 70 years, the company expanded to operate through out the Midlands region providing a glazing service involving the restoration and manufacture of traditional stained glass, domestic and commercial glazing and wind screen replacement for vehicles.

In 1992, Philip emigrated from the UK to Perth and with his Father established Boyce Western Glass working from a leadlight studio in the foothills of the Darling Range.

Restoration and Heritage work From this small studio, Boyce Western Glass has been involved in numerous restoration works and other projects including churches and heritage listed properties. With its English roots, Boyce Western Glass are able to provide a more focused understanding and a greater perspective of the long history and tradition of manufacturing and preserving genuine lead and Zinc lights. Years in the leadlighting business, also means they keep a small stock of obsolete glass which enable them, in the majority of cases to match glass for renovation work. Boyce Western Glass also stocks a wide range of stained-glass colours and textures which can closely match older glass patterns and equally can be used to for creating more modern vibrant designs.

Significant fluctuations in the economic climate over the years pushed Boyce Western Glass to add the speciality of Simulated Stained Glass to their repertoire becoming the Australian Distributor for the Regalead range of Self-adhesive Film and Lead products. These products offer not only the option of creating more intricate designs but affords customers on a smaller budget with the ability to still incorporate stunning stained-glass features in their home. This form of simulated stained glass has also been successfully used in heritage and modern church buildings alike to create a stained-glass feature which appeals to the more modern era of designs whilst meeting the budget restraints of the project. New Purpose factory and showroom With a growing reputation for outstanding craftsmanship, old fashioned service and absolute integrity together with a total commitment to the highest standards of design, materials & workmanship, the company soon outgrew the small hills studio.

Whilst many customers today remember visiting the studio to get their leadlights repaired and restored to their original beauty or to commission new stained-glass work to create a unique and stunning masterpiece in their home, today Boyce Western Glass operates out of a purpose-built factory located close to Perth Airport and main road links to the North, South and East of Perth.

The new factory has allowed Boyce Western Glass to increase its range of stock holdings of textured glass patterns including

some of the older glass patterns such as Delta, Orchid and Kosciusko together with a small stock of obsolete glass patterns which are widely sought after for use in heritage restoration and renovation projects.

The traditional favourites of Waverly Flemish, Reed and Everglade provide the versatility to create that modern classic appeal to your home, with some patterns being suitable for shower screens to lend that unique touch of innovative design and luxury to any bathroom renovation.

The extra space available in the new showroom enables customers to browse the displays and choose from the large range of stained glass and simulated art glass film and lead and textured glass, art glass tools and shower screens using the textured glass.

In-house artist available Boyce Western Glass has an inhouse artist on hand to assist and work with customers which means the sky is the limit in designing the stained glass to make the impact statement they want for their home.

Australiana themed leadlight with gumnuts and parrots are the company’s most popular designs, however Federation and Art Deco styles are frequently used for renovation projects in our older Perth suburbs. Abstract and marine themes have been most popular for projects in coastal areas and new suburbs.

Stained Glass though is not confined only to older period homes. There are a myriad of modern designs available to create that statement masterpiece creating beauty and ambience to any space for years of enjoyment. To make that happen, Boyce Western Glass spends time to liaise with interior designers, architects, and homeowners alike to gain an understanding of their vision in order to ensure that their leadlight suits the style and space for which it is intended whilst at the same time, adding value to the customers home.
