H
ow was your January? Mine was great. I love the holidays, but I welcome the days when I can return to Wal Mart without fearing for my life in the parking lot and in the store. The only event that we attended in January was the Easyriders 2012 Bike Show Tour in Charlotte and you can read about it in this issue. There were lots of beautiful bikes there and we got to visit with many of our biker friends. The pictures of the bikes and the show winners are on our website www.FullThrottleMagazine.com > pictures > January 2012 > Easyriders 2012 Bike Show Tour. When you look at the pictures, you will be able to tell that we had a large time. January passed by fast and here we are in February. The advertisers are awakening from their winter slumber and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar is beginning to swell. The only really BIG EVENT in February is The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 14th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day, Oyster Roast and party. Because the title is so long and the weather is usually terrible, we call it the Fear Of February Party. We have had the Fear Of February Party at different locations over the years and this year we are happy to have Easy Eddie’s in Huntersville, NC as hosts. Eddie and Judy have been such loyal supporters over the last 11 years it only seems right to have it at their place. We have free oysters and chicken wings, cool event shirts, door prizes, music, vendors, games, and raffles for a diamond heart pendant and a BIG FLAT SCREEN TV! The date is February 11th. Easy Eddie’s is located at 12125 Statesville Road (I-77 Exit 23) in Huntersville, NC. Ramada Huntersville/Lake Norman is only 2 miles from Easy Eddie’s and has rooms for $49 per night (including a hot breakfast) and Easy Eddie’s will provide shuttle service to the hotel! Hell Yea! To make a reservation call 1-704-875-1165 and tell them that you are coming to the Full Throttle Magazine Fear Of February Party. Call 336-885-5400 if you need more information or if you would like a free vendor space. Don’t be embarrassed if you have to come in the car. Nobody cares!

2nd Annual Desperado’s M/C Raleigh & South Wake Chapter Toy Drive
By: Robert DMCR In two years, this event has reached out and made a lot of children happy and helped a lot of families. This year, on December 17th, two pick up trucks filled with toys were delivered to the NCNG Armory in Morrisville. The toys go to Operation Kids On Guard, which is a program that supports North Carolina National Guard families and children whose parents are deployed. The toys might have been delivered by truck, but allot of people rode their bikes that day and it was a cold one. Dedication and doing for others makes it a lot easier to shake off the cold. The Raleigh crew cooked up some fresh shrimp for over a hundred supporters at Marcom’s Lounge in Raleigh after the ride. It was a great event and some people need to be recognized for their support and for their donations. Our “Thanks” go out from DMC Raleigh & South Wake Chapter to Dragon Slayers M/C, Lords Of Loyalty M/C, Bikers For Christ M/C, Marcom’s Lounge, Corner Pocket, Black Flower, and North Raleigh Cycle. Our gratitude is also extended to everyone who worked and rode and donated to make this even a success.

By Anita Moreau January 14th was a flawlessly beautiful morning with a clear Carolina Blue sky. It was 33º - a perfect day for the 6th Annual Polar Bear Ride in Morehead City, North Carolina. The Crystal Coast Messengers, CMA Chapter 951 of Morehead City partner annually with six motorcycle business sponsors – Harley-Davidson of New Bern, MFI, and Jean’s Place in Havelock, The Bike Doctor in Newport, Knuckleheadz Kustoms and Chopper Toyz in Morehead City - to collect stuffed animals that are for local law enforcement officers to give to children when they answer domestic violence calls, accidents, or incidents where children are present. The small stuffed animals are collected as the entry fee (one small stuffed animal per rider or passenger) for the ride and from boxes placed at the sponsor’ businesses over a 4 week period. This year there were 65 motorcycles, 75 riders and a total of 81 participants in the ride. The motorcyclists began to show up at 8:30 am bundled up to face the chilly ride. They registered, dropped off stuffed toys, fellowshipped with each other, talked about their bikes, sipped coffee from the Garden Gate Café, and awaited a ride that has become a local tradition. At 10:30 bike blessings were offered by local CMA members and at 11 am it was kickstands up to begin the ride. The motorcyclists, complete with law enforcement escorts and individual escort vehicles, visited each event sponsor on the run. At each stop, from Morehead City to New Bern and back, riders enjoyed coffee and snacks provided by the sponsors. The bikers came through this year, as over 500 stuffed animals were collected for the cause. Those who hung on until the end had a warm up lunch at the Morehead City Golden Corral to finish the event! What a great start for 2012. Many thanks to all who brought or delivered a bear for this event and thanks to the Police Departments of Morehead City, Newport, and Havelock, Sheriff’s Departments of Carteret County and Craven County and to the NC Highway Patrol who helped make this event safe and successful!

14th Attempt Fear Of February Party
By: Mark Infield Has January been rather flat this year or is it just me? We went to the Easyriders Bike Show and it was great to see everyone again this year. Now I want to give you a “heads up” on a party that you do not have to pay to get in – The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 14th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day, Oyster Roast and party. Since the weather is almost always awful, we call it the Fear Of February Party. We have had rain, sideways blowing snow, and lately some pretty nice days, so the tradition continues with the 14th attempt. We started out doing deep fried turkeys and steamed and raw oysters, but the turkeys were too much work so we changed over to chicken wings and that streamlined things a bunch. Almost everyone eats chicken wings or oysters and the best part is that they are free as long as they last, so you want to get there early to make sure you get your share. This year as in the past couple of years, US Food Services is providing the wings and we have a new oyster sponsor, Bob Karney Law Firm. Hayes Jewelers in Lexington will provide the diamond heart pendant, and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine will be responsible for a BIG flat screen TV for the raffle. There will also be door prizes donated by various other businesses and individuals. If you want to be one of them contact me at 336-885-5400 and we will be sure that you get plenty of recognition for your donation. We also have free vendor spaces. Call me and we will set you up. We have had the Fear Of February Party at different locations over the years and this year we are happy to have Easy Eddie’s in Huntersville, NC as hosts. Eddie and Judy have been such loyal supporters over the last 11 years it only seems right to have it at their place. We always have a big crowd of loyal readers and when you add in their loyal patrons, it’s
bound to be the biggest Fear Of February Party ever. Even if the weather is terrible, Easy Edie’s has plenty of room indoors and a huge covered outside patio, so there is no excuse for not being there. Easy Eddie’s is located at 12125 Statesville Road (I-77 Exit 23) in Huntersville, NC. If you want to get a room for the night, Ramada Huntersville/Lake Norman is only 2 miles from Easy Eddie’s and has rooms for $49 per night (including a hot breakfast) and Easy Eddie’s will provide shuttle service to the hotel! Hell Yea! To make a reservation call 1-704-875-1165 and tell them that you are coming to the Full Throttle Magazine Fear Of February Party. So plan on being there. Even if you do not win the BIG flat screen TV you will come away having had a real good time and maybe an event t-shirt. I hope to see you there. Let’s start the new riding season off right at Easy Eddies on February 11, 2012. Call 336-885-5400 if you need more information. Don’t be embarrassed if you have to come in the car. Nobody cares!

Everyday Experiences Merging To Teach Life Changing Lessons
By: ishKiia Being aware of a combination of past experiences that relate in some aspect to what is being experienced at a particular moment can amplify that experience’s importance and emotional efficacy. Waiting for the time to be realized, those idle memories slide in and merge into that one simple experience making it a life changing gift that make a person realize that the seemingly remarkable experiences are nothing without a way to apply them. For example, a simple motorcycle ride experience I had from one perspective can mean one thing, but adding another perspective and experience in addition to that can make it take on a whole new meaning and lesson. Thinking back on one particular ride is like having a flashback like you would see in a weird unpredictable movie. I love to ride my bike. Every time I take it out on the road I always seem to think about how much I love riding it, with the comforting wind rushing across my ears, making a sound reminiscent of the Shabda I hear in meditation, or of the roaring waves on the coast that I love so much. The feeling of freedom that is conjured up is such great therapy for me. There is nothing around me that is confining and almost forget I’m stuck in this body of mine, and it is as if being in a prison and getting let out temporarily. The simple feeling of the bike weaving when I lean back and forth on curves making me feel like I’m swimming with a current, granting a feeling of fluid and smooth movement with no resistance. It reminds me of dreams I had when I was a child free flying with just my body steering where ever I wanted to go with nothing resisting or pushing me. I never forget the feeling of those dreams. At this particular time in my life, going through some difficult times extenuates the wonderful rides and such good therapy for me. It is like being in the dark and all of a sudden seeing a beautiful red sunset on the coast in the evening with the cool coastal breezes gently washing you. The sudden change, though good, is as if I have an electrical shock to the senses. This particular night, I ride my motorcycle to a gathering that some friends and I are having. After the event, I am getting ready to go home and talking with others as was customary for the group of my very close friends. They are like my chosen family and rather than having common blood, we have a common path we share. Always going outside, and those that smoke do so, and those that don’t stand there waving hands at the smokers and talk. We are standing and talking near my bike, and one of my friends fondly known as Deb was standing there with us. She is one of those people that have lifetimes of wisdom it seems and is most all the time very subdued and calm. Suddenly, as if some alien popping down from the sky, she starts talking about the bike with an obsession of fear that she can’t shake. It feels like she has just been dipped
in tar and she can’t get it off her skin. This is what she said: “I don’t know how you do it... I can’t ride a motorcycle like that without freaking out... I feel so vulnerable.... nothing around me to protect me and close me inside it. All that wind beating on me making me feel like I am in a open airplane or something, like I am going to fall out or something....” As she continues to elaborate how she feels, I truly, with much focus, listen. I can almost feel her experience, as if loosing yourself in a well done movie. I find myself feeling sorry for her because of what she is missing. I am looking at her in total amazement and shock, as if I am seeing someone get shot, at how different her perspective is. Although I don’t have the same view point, I respect and honor it greatly for some resonating reason. Her perspective is more significant to me in an odd eerie way, although I do not understand why quiet yet. I just accept and absorb it listening to her experience. In a short time, I decide to go home and put on my helmet. Something is different about it this time. Fastening my helmet seems surreal as if preparing for something significant like going to the moon or saving the world from an asteroid on a collision on earth. My hearing the acute vibration of every rib of the strap that slides through the rings of the fastener is so loud and echoes as if I am yelling in a canyon hearing the echo of my voice. I sit on the bike as if I’m mounting a most dangerous prize bull. As I turn the key and start the motor, I seem to feel every detail and nuance of the running engine; the sound, every movement that takes place inside that engine. When pulling through the gravel driveway I remember feeling every piece of gravel moving under the pressure of the weight of the bike under me as I roll over it. Although I am always careful on surfaces like that, the concentration on that gravel is more intensified, as if you are making a big play in the final 3 seconds of a football game. After getting on the smooth pavement, again I exhale and immediately started enjoying the feeling all so familiar as if I was returning home from a long hard business trip that happens to fall on a big traveling holiday. I let out a sigh of relief again letting out all my daily tenseness and feel the normal therapy of riding begin to take hold thinking of nothing but feeling peace and freedom once again. As if just waking up from a sleep, I realize I am one third the way home and notice myself looking around as if I am looking for something I know is there, but not seeing yet. It is like you think you see someone walking past you but miss them at the same time. I notice the clear early evening sky begin to look cloudy as if watching time lapse photography of fog rolling in. I realize it is my own perception and not the actual weather. I feel a presence creep up on me as if a thief in the night or a horror film character is creeping up behind me. And then it happens, a molestation of Deb’s experience Continued On Pg 31

Spokes & Jokes
The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!
Mark and I had stopped for a beer when I pointed to two old drunks sitting across the bar from us and told him “That’s us in 10 years”. He said “That’s a mirror, you dip-s#it! After closing time at the bar, Stanislaw was proudly showing off his new apartment to a couple of his friends. He led the way to his bedroom where there was a big brass gong and a mallet. “What’s that big brass gong for?” one of the guests asked. ”It’s not a gong. It’s a talking clock,” the drunk replied. “A talking clock? Seriously?” asked his astonished friend. ”YUP, it is” replied the drunk. “How’s it work?” the friend asked, squinting at it. ”Watch,” the drunk replied. He picked up the mallet, gave the gong an ear-shattering pound and stepped back. The three stood looking at one another for a moment. Suddenly, someone on the other side of the wall screamed, “you a$$hole! It’s three-fifteen in the morning!” Witnessing the Republicans and the Democrats bicker over the U.S. debt is like watching two idiots argue over a bar bill on the Titanic. A counterfeiter decided that the easiest way to pass off his phony $18 bills would be to unload them in some small rural town, so he drove until he found a tiny town with a single general merchandise store. He entered the store, went up to the counter and handed one of the bogus bills to the man behind the counter. “Could you change this for me, please?” The store clerk looked at the bill and replied, “Of course I can. Would you prefer two $9 bills or three $6 bills?” An old man walks into the barbershop for a shave and a haircut, but he tells the barber he can’t get all his whiskers off because his cheeks are wrinkled from age. The barber gets a little wooden ball from a cup on the shelf and tells him to put it inside his cheek to spread out the skin. When he’s finished, the old man tells the barber that was the cleanest shave he’s had in years, but he wanted to know what would have happened if he had swallowed the little ball. The barber replied, “Just bring it back tomorrow like everyone else does.”
A motorcycle patrolman was rushed to the hospital with an inflamed appendix. The doctors operated and advised him that all was well. However, the patrolman kept feeling something pulling at the hairs on his chest. Worried that it might be a second surgery the doctors hadn’t told him about, he finally got enough energy to pull his hospital gown down enough so he could look at what was making him so uncomfortable. Taped firmly across his hairy chest were three wide strips of adhesive tape, the kind that doesn’t come off easily. Written in large black letters was the sentence: “Get well soon … from the nurse you gave a ticket to last week.”
edly. “As soon as Grandma comes into the room, make a noise like a frog!” “What?” said her Grandpa? “Make a noise like a frog, because Grandma said as soon as you croak, we’re all going to Disney World.”
A redneck family went to the city where they visited a mall for the first time in their lives. The father and son were strolling around while the wife shopped. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, especially two shiny, silver doors that moved apart and then slid back together again. The boy asked, “Pa, what’s that?” The father responded, “Son, I dunno. I ain’t never seen anything like that in my whole life. I ain’t got no idea what it is.” While the boy and his father watched in amazement, a heavyset, wrinkled old woman in a wheelchair rolled up to the doors and pressed a button. The walls opened and she rolled into a small room. The walls then closed behind her. The rednecks were still staring a minute later, when the doors opened up again and a gorgeous, buxom, young blonde woman stepped out. The father snapped, “Son, go get your mother!”
A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book, and noticed he had his collar on backwards. The little boy asked why he wore his collar backwards. The man, who was a priest, said, ‘I am a Father. The little boy replied, “My Daddy doesn’t wear his collar like that.” The priest looked up from his book and answered, ‘’I am the Father of many.” The boy said, ‘’My Dad has 4 boys, 4 girls and two grandchildren and he doesn’t wear his collar that way!” The priest, getting impatient, said. “I am the Father of hundreds”, and went back to reading his book. The little boy sat quietly thinking for a while, then leaned over and said, “Maybe you should have put your pants on backwards instead of your collar.”
A minister is driving down to New York to see a show and he’s stopped in Connecticut for speeding. The state trooper smells alcohol on his breath and then he sees an empty wine bottle on the floor, and he says, “Sir, have you been drinking?” The minister says, “Just water.” The sheriff says, “Then why do I smell wine?” And the minister looks down at the bottle and says, “Good Lord, He’s done it again!” A six-year-old goes to the hospital with her grandmother to visit her sick Grandpa. When they there, she runs ahead of her Grandma and bursts into her Grandpa’s room. “Grandpa, Grandpa,” she says excit-
A woman and her husband interrupted their vacation to go to the dentist. “I want a tooth pulled, and I don’t want Novocain because I’m in a big hurry,” the woman said. “Just extract the tooth as quickly as possible, and we’ll be on our way.” The dentist was quite impressed. “You’re certainly a courageous woman,” he said. “Which tooth is it?” The woman turned to her husband and said, “Open wide, dear.”
A man was driving through town when he saw the flash of a traffic camera. He figured his picture had been taken for exceeding the limit, even though he was certain he was not speeding. Just to be sure, he went around the block again and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly. Again, the camera flashed. Now he began to think this was quite funny, so he drove even slower as he passed the area again, but the traffic camera still flashed. He tried a fourth time with the same result. He did it again a fifth time and again the camera flashed as he rolled past at a snail’s pace. Two weeks later, he got five tickets in the mail for driving without a seat belt.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine
BOLT Summit 2012
By: Rogue Bikers Of Lesser Tolerance held their first summit of 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 6-8. B.O.L.T. is the “NO COMPROMISE” biker rights collective. They oppose discrimination against bikers and other motorcyclists. Known primarily for opposition to government mandated helmet laws, they lawfully fight discrimination on all fronts, including legislative buildings, courtrooms, and the streets. Membership is limited to proven freedom fighters and activists who become know to the organization as a result of their actions, using a nomination and acceptance process. Unlike some of the other motorcycle rights organizations, you cannot join by paying a fee. Do not get me wrong some of these other organizations do a very good job and out of them come some people that are more dedicated and better prepared much like the special military teams our country has. Everyone who is involved in fighting for their rights is very important, some just have more experience and are better suited for the job that B.O.L.T. is looking to accomplish. Many of the people who belong to B.O.L.T. also belong to one or more of the other organizations fighting for motorcycle rights. Members from all over the country attended and numerous issues were discussed. Motorcycle-Only Roadblocks was a high priority as was mandatory helmet laws. David Stillwell of Guerilla Lawfare (http://GuerrillaLawfare.com/) reported
on the class action lawsuit filed by Las Vegas attorney Travis Barrick. For more information check (http://RepealItOrFeelIt. com/). Douglas Findlay of Repeal Machine (http://b4bs.blogspot.com/) gave a presentation on government, legislators, strategy, and how to get elected officials to listen to motorcyclists. It was very well thought out and a proven strategy as I have used it myself in the past with good results. There were also committee and steering committee meetings on other business. www.FullThrottleMagazine.com Continued From Pg 25 comes over me, through me, and around me totally engulfs me with no remorse and leaving me no escape. I feel every detail of her told experience, every fear, every vulnerable exposure to the elements. Wanting to scream, I realize that it isn’t possible because the very real fear that I am experiencing has a paralyzing effect. It is as if I have been poisoned by a giant spider just waiting near by for the poison to take hold and make her final move. Terrified, I look around with an odd “knowing” awareness, as if I am observing the experience from the outside as well as the inside. The newfound awareness seems to be just enough comfort to gain my senses, yet still feeling the horror of being on that bike. My attention then goes to my body and how it feels, isolating it from the emotional trauma. It is as if the pieces of my being are being separated and dissected as if in a biology Lab assignment carefully tearing apart a worm or frog, yet being the frog or worm itself at the same time. The focus on the body sensations is so intense I forget the horror for a brief flighty moment. This one moment seems like an eternity crammed into one brief breath. In an awakening daze, I look around and realize I am two thirds the way home and feel the horror once again. Though it begins to subside I never take focus off of my body sensations, as if in a melting transition from one scene to the next in a movie, I once again begin to enjoy the ride as I always do. As this transition takes place like melting ice on a hot summer day, I notice that my body’s sensations don’t transition and remain the same. As if a huge flash of light moves through me, I realize that the body is very finite and the mind’s perceptions are what makes experiences different. Yes, the body only knows a very limited set of sensations and the mind is what colors it whatever color it decides to paint it. To the body, pain is joy, joy is pain, freedom is prison, prison is freedom, and all is the same just functioning in an ignorance as if it is being inserted into a matrix of something it does not understand and is still sleeping. At this point my mind starts flashing, and all past experiences flooding into this newfound ordinary experience bringing on the new meaning and insight as if I am looking through a new pair of eyes. I roll into the driveway, park the bike in the garage, and take off my helmet. Walking away, I stop and turn back looking at the shiny black and chrome bike of light and darkness that has now become my best friend for the moment. It has an etheric presence and seems like it is smiling back at me with a knowing glimmer. A simple motorcycle ride becomes my best teacher in perception. The ordinary becomes the most extraordinary gift tying together all the past that seems useless for a life lesson that completely initiates you to a new dimension of awareness from that moment on.

I want to tell you about Wild Bill. Some of you may know him or someone like him. And I want to tell you about an old biker that had long since quit riding, but still loved the sound of a Harley. The old biker had become a well-respected gentleman in his community and was head of the Deacons and Ushers at his very conservative and well known church. Wild Bill had just accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior a few days before and was out riding this Sunday morning looking for a church to attend. Wild Bill hardly ever brushed his long hair and always wore oil stained jeans with holes in the knees and those big black boots and a t-shirt with the sleeves cut out. He had a naked woman tattooed on his right arm with three names marked through under it. That was just Bill, a good man that had a very successful bike shop and didn’t have to impress anyone. The church was filled with not one seat vacant this Sunday and the service was underway. The pastor was just about to begin his message after welcoming all the visitors. The old biker was sitting in his special chair at the back of the church when he heard a very familiar sound come rumbling into the parking lot. He always loved those Harleys! In just a few minutes Wild Bill came through the big double doors. Everyone looked around. Bill began walking down the aisle looking for a seat, but after walking all the way to the
front he realized there wasn’t one, so he just sat down in the floor right in front of the pulpit. The whole place was silent and there was tenseness in the air. Even the pastor didn’t speak a word. Then everyone noticed their head of the Deacons and Ushers began walking very slowly with his cane toward Wild Bill. They were expecting the stranger to be asked to leave so they could continue with their service on Christian Love! Finally the old biker reached the front of the church and to everyone’s surprise he dropped his cane and slowly lowered himself to the floor and sat with Wild Bill to make him feel welcomed. The pastor, after taking awhile to wipe his eyes and clear his throat, said to a teary eyed congregation, “What I’m about to preach, you will never remember. What you have just seen you will never forget.” Sometimes you may be the only Bible some people will read! What will be learned from your life today? Have you prayed the Biker’s Prayer on this page so you can be there when the Lord needs an example of Christian Love?

Specialist Benjamin K. Pearce & Post 7 Honor Guard, John Gault By: Kathy Johnson Humble is what we are when we have the honor of being in the presence of a soldier, a warrior, returning home from Afghanistan. Emotion, to put it lightly, is what you feel wondering what Benjamin Pearce felt on his tour of duty. Making sure, even though he does or doesn’t know you, he was protecting you. It was my honor to spend Saturday, January 14th with him and his family at Crazy Shots in Hillsborough, NC. Benjamin was honored that day by Crazy Shots and American Legion Post 7 (Durham, NC). Neil Donelley sang our National Anthem with compassion and spirit. Post 7 Commander, Joel Lipsey, started with the Pledge Of Allegiance and then Commander Lipsey gave a very moving speech. There were not very many dry eyes when he finished. After that the American Legion Honor Guard and Color Guard Presented arms and the colors. How impressive! The names alone stand for themselves. After they presented arms and the colors I walked and talked with them. I think this statement from one of the members sums it up. He said, “I wish we could do this for a thousand at a time, but if it is one at a time, that is what we will do”. Myself, I am a proud member of the American Legion. We say at the Post, “It’s not what the Post can do for you. It is what you can do for your post”. Help us send more packages to our troops overseas and help us welcome them home You can learn more about American Legion Post 7 by visiting www.durhampost7.org You can donate online or by stopping by the Post at 406 East Trinity Avenue, Durham NC 27701. why they should pay $20 plus parking ($5) to look at some more. My response to someone who wouldn’t spend $20 to go to a bike event in the middle of winter is not printable, but I did offer to let the cheapskate look at all of our pictures for free. I cannot give that person the memories or the good times that we had with our biker friends at the show, but what’s that worth any way? WTF! That is part of the biker lifestyle! I had a great time and it cost me a lot more than that to attend. It was worth every penny to see you all there. We’ll do it again next year. Will you be there?
By: Mark Infield On January 21st & 22nd the Easyriders 2012 Bike Show Tour returned to the Charlotte Convention Center. As usual, there were some bitchin’ bikes, and cool custom cars on display. Nationally known bike builders Paul Yaffe from Bagger Nation, Ralph Randolph from Knockout Motorcycles Company, Shannon Davidson from Chopp Shop, and Kendall Johnson from Kendall Johnson Customs were on hand to meet everyone at their set ups all day. Many of our advertisers were set up as vendors and there was a full schedule of entertainment for this year’s attendees. When they opened the doors at 10am on Saturday morning a steady stream of motorcycle enthusiasts took refuge from the cold, drizzly January day in the hall. It was perfect weather for an indoor event. Mike and Angie Ballard from the hit TV show “Full Throttle Saloon” and Chibs (Tommy Flanigan) and Lyla (Winter Zoli) from “Sons Of Anarchy” were there for photo ops and autographs. I didn’t have time to stand in line for that, but I did get my picture taken with Paul Yaffe for free! Live music was provided by “HEMME” and the Purfect Angels modeled Easyriders Roadwear on stage. The Charlotte Roller Girls were rollin’ through the crowd and there were plenty of door prizes donated by the vendors given away. There was a display of David Mann artwork with prints available for sale. I do not know what the attendance numbers were, but Saturday was busy and Sunday was fairly busy. I know that we always had a crowd at our booth and gave away about 2500 magazines and sold 90+ Carolinas’ Full Throttle shot glasses! The last order of business was the awards and over 60 awards were given out for the motorcycles not to mention the car awards. We have not received the list of winners yet, but Carolina bikers sure brought some great bikes to this year’s show. You can see pictures of all of them by visiting FullThrottleMagazine.com > pictures > February 2012 > Easyriders 2012 Bike Show Tour. I had someone on Facebook make the comment that they had been looking at bikes all their lives for free and wondered

The Effects Of The Flaws Of The Uniform Code Of Military Justice
By: Paris B. Carter For many men waking up every morning in a 10 by 10 cell with nothing but the horrors of war and the realization that they may never see their families again is a reality. This is a sad fact because they are in this situation for doing their patriotic duty, their jobs. But why are they there? They are there because there are many flaws in the military judicial system. Due to these flaws in the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), many soldiers* are now in Leavenworth Prison or another military prison. The UCMJ is the judicial branch of the military. If a soldier is accused of a crime against the UCMJ they are typically sent to what is called an Article 32 hearing first. This is a one-man tribunal in which the one person, called a Conveying Officer, decides what the next step for the soldier being prosecuted is. The soldier could be pardoned, given minor disciplinary actions, or sent to Courts-Marshal. However the military government does not always take the Conveying Officer’s recommendation for the next move. There are three different types of Courts-Marshals. The first is a Summary Courts-Marshal, which is for minor or misdemeanor type crimes. The next level is Special Courts-Marshal; this is where most cases under the UCMJ are seen and consists of a judge and three members of a jury. The final type is General Courts-Marshal. This is the most powerful of all of the levels of the Courts-Marshal and handles the most severe cases such as rape and conspiracy. General Courts-Marshal consists of a judge and a minimum of 5 members of the jury. The catch is, is that the “jury” for Courts-Marshal isn’t always a “jury of peers,” it is typically soldiers who have never seen the line of battle. This is a violation of the 7th amendment of the US Constitution, which is the right to a jury of your peers; someone can not be considered a peer if they do not comprehend what these soldiers have gone through because they
have not seen battle. After Courts-Marshal the soldier is either found guilty or not guilty of the crime they haven been accused of. If found guilty, they are sent to Leavenworth Prison in Kansas or another disciplinary barracks, which is a type of prison where soldiers who have committed serious crimes are sent. After a period of time a soldier my receive clemency, appeals and parole hearings which may reduce or reverse their charges and sentences. One of the men currently in a military prison is a man named David Lawrence. After seeing many people die in Iraq he found him self becoming mentally unstable, so his commanding officer sent him to a mental hospital to be checked out. The hospital diagnosed him with severe schizophrenia and put him on medication. However Lawrence’s command did not see it fit to change his job. Then one day, Lawrence’s command left him alone, with a gun, to watch a prisoner of war longer than a normal shift. When Lawrence’s command returned he found the prisoner of war dead. Lawrence had his medications taken away and was sentenced to an Article 32 hearing. Prior to the Article 32 Lawrence was sent to four mental hospitals to get sanity tests to see if he was stable enough for Courts-Marshal. When Lawrence was initially interrogated, he was questioned without a witness, video or audio. The Conveying Officer said Lawrence changed his story three times in six hours. In the end Lawrence was sentenced to General Courts-Marshal, without the results from the sanity tests, and sent to pre-trail confinement. There are many flaws in Lawrence’s case. First, they left a known schizophrenic alone with a prisoner of war for longer than he should be. Next was that the Criminal Investigations Division (CID), kept no record of Lawrence’s interrogation by not having video or audio records or witnesses. This, in court of law, is not legitimate evidence and would be thrown out. Finally, the sanity test results were not available before the
www.FullThrottleMagazine.com
ruling of the Article 32 hearing, which were needed to determine if he was fit to be put on trial. Another man in military prison under similar charges to David Lawrence is Michael Behenna. Michael Behenna, a decorated first Lieutenant, was ordered to take a known al-Qaida operative home after an interrogation. Behenna stopped the man on their way back to his home and had him sit on a rock where Behenna continued to interrogate him, which is legal under the Rules of Engagement. While Lt. Behenna was questioning him, the al-Qaida operative threw a rock to distract Behenna and made a move for the Lieutenant’s gun. Behenna, concerned for his safety, shot the man in the head. Behenna went through Article 32 and was sent to General Courts-Marshal. At the CourtsMarshal the government would not let their own forensic pathologist speak because the evidence that the pathologists had was in agreement with Bohemia’s testimony. The pathologist wrote emails after the Courts-Marshal stating that the bullets trajectory showed that the man was standing when he was shot in the head instead for sitting on the rock as the prosecution claimed. Behenna was sentenced to twenty-five years in Leavenworth Prison for premeditated murder. Since the ruling Behenna has had two Clemency hearings and his sentence has been reduced to fifteen years. Now his family awaits the results from his last appeal to see if his sentence will be reduced further or be reversed, which could take up to fifteen months. The flaws in Behenna’s case that got him placed in Leavenworth Prison are blatantly obvious. First, the government would not let their own forensic pathologist testify in the case because his testimony would have proved Behenna did not commit pre-meditated murder but rather acted in self-defense. This not only shows a problem with the UCMJ but also in the United States government. Added to this is the fact that Behenna and his family have to wait up to 15 months for the results of his latest appeal. This is a violation of the 6th amendment of the Constitution of the United States, which is the right to a speedy trial. Finally, there is Even Vela. One day a man, who was though to be a terrorist, and his son came up on Vela’s sniper squad’s hide out. The team let the little boy go but Vela’s commanding officer gave him direct orders to shoot the man. Naturally, Vela did what he was told. When Vela’s sniper squad went to trail for the death of the man all of the snipers and the commanding officer where tried on American soil, except for Vela. The Iraqi Prime Minister demanded that Vela be tried on Iraqi soil and insisted “Blood for blood”. The biggest flaw in Evan’s case was that he was not tried on American soil. This is a direct violation of the Geneva Convention, which states that all Americans should be tried on American soil in a crime of battle. Obviously, flaws in the Uniform Code of Military Justice are there and very apparent. Sadly, Michael Behenna, David Lawrence, and Evan Vela are not the only soldiers that arc in theses situations. There are currently 10 men in prison that are in similar situations as Behenna and Vela and countless others that are in the same situations as Behenna and Lawrence waiting for their sentencing to be ruled. This proves that even though they are American citizens, they do not have the same rights that are offered to other citizens of the United States of America. Stjepan Mestrdvic put it best in his book The “Good Solider” on Trial, when he said, “The military justice system looks the other way when law enforcement agents and prosecutors cross the line into unlawful behavior even though the government is supposed to have a ‘clean hand’ in prosecuting the accused”. These twists of the laws in the UCMJ have landed many soldiers in prison, and away from their loved ones. *Solider in this paper is used as an all-inclusive term to refer to all military personnel not just the army. RIP David E. Peterson North Carolina
FULL MOTORCYCLE SERVICE & REPAIR David is second from left in the back row with his signature hat on. Daisy is first on the left in the front row. David E. Peterson of Greensboro, NC went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2012 at the age of 72. He was born in Honolulu, HI. He married Daisy Wolfenbarger in 1967 and moved to Greensboro in the early 70’s. David owned Franklin Printing in Greensboro. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, January 21st at Adams Farm Community Church in Jamestown. David was a fine fellow who always greeted me with a big smile. He did a terrific job on the Greensboro HOG Newsletter. He also worked to promote motorcycling with the Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum in Maggie Valley, NC. I am sure that wasn’t the only organization that he supported, and we used to see him and Daisy every year on the Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run. We were heart broken when we heard of David’s passing. We would most certainly have attended his memorial service, but we were out of town on business. We will continue to keep Daisy and the family in our prayers. You can view David’s obituary and sign the guest book by visiting: http://goo. gl/7R5y Here is a picture of David & Daisy with some HOG friends at the Pink Heals event on September 11, 2010. Story And Photo By Alan Dockery Another Carolina biker hero is gone. Jim Whitener, Hickory, NC, 77 years old, died January 14. Jim was a legend among bikers far beyond the Carolinas. He earned his fame at drag strips across the Eastern part of the country before many of us learned to ride motorcycles. I first met Jim 20 years ago at Daytona Bike Week. While at the AMI Brute Horsepower Shootout, I was checking out the bikes that were leading the competition and remember thinking, “That ratty old Sportster is beating all these other bikes.” Jim and I talked a while and I told him I was still in the Air Force but planned to return to North Carolina once I retired. Since I am into Harley drags, it didn’t take long for us to cross paths again and become friends. Last year I camped with him and Mark Ray at Rockingham for the AHDRA Finals. Even though he couldn’t race, Jim still loved going to the strip and was always glad to see his old friends and race fans. Jim was truly a master mechanic and operated G & W Cycle in Hickory for 32 years. His shop was much more than a place for a tune up and some bolt on chrome. It was full of serious machine and engine building tools. “Over the course of 40 years he rode and built some of the fastest bikes, both Harleys and imports, in Hickory and the surrounding area. He was known as The Sportster Man,” said his son, Tim Whitener. For 50 years, from 1959 – 2008, Jim went to Daytona Bike Week. He did much more than cruise Main Street and hang on the beach. Jim was a favorite at the sand drags. He participated in and won the AMI Brute Horsepower Shootout multiple times in two H-D classes. Many folks knew Jim for his wins on the blacktop eighth and quarter mile drag strips. He raced across the Carolinas at Hudson, Shady Side, Farmington, Piedmont, Rockingham, and other strips. He still tore up the dirt, too, at places like Boozy Creek. Racing with the Harley Drag Racing Association, which became the All Harley Drag Racing Association, Jim represented us well at tracks such as Bowling Green and Sturgis from the mid 1980s to the 1990s. He was a three-time champion in the Street XL “C” Class from 1988 to 1990. His best know race bikes were a 1966 Ironhead Sportster know as “Little Red” and his 1986 Evo Sportster, “Big Red.” It was clear at his funeral that Jim was a well-loved man. More than 260 bikers, friends, and family members packed the Hickory Funeral Home. That was the biggest crowd they had seen there. Many of us will truly miss stopping by his bike shop or hanging out at the drag strip with Jim. Race In Peace, brother.

DUMP - TOW - FARM - LONG/SHORT HAUL TRUCKING
By: Mark Infield Every year on the Saturday night of the Easyriders Bike Show Tour, Easy Eddies has an after show party. Usually I am too tired from standing on the concrete floor for 10 hours to go, but this year, I was afraid NOT to go. I didn’t want to miss anything and I don’t mind feeling beat up and hung over in the morning, especially if you have to work another 6 hour shift on the floor, load up, and drive home the next day. It is just a short drive up I-77 to Huntersville to Easy Eddie’s and when we arrived the parking lot was already FULL. When we went inside every table was taken and if there were any chairs open, they were orphans out in the middle of the floor. It was JAMMIN’ in there! I got us a couple of beers from a cute little bartender and shortly two spots at the bar opened up. I grabbed them and a menu. Man was I hungry! I have had Easy Eddie’s wings before and they were great, but that wasn’t gettin’ it tonight. I ordered Roadking Pizza and man was it good. Wild Thing had the Sturgis Cheese Steak sandwich and when I asked her if it was good she just grunted. I am certain that was a “hell yea!” Rock Highway entertained the crowd way into the night, but I could only take Shaggy’s word for that because we headed back to the hotel around 11pm. Shaggy came by our booth for some goody powders in the morning. You can see his picture on our website in the Easyrider Bike Show Tour pictures. Apparently that cute little bar tender I spoke of earlier had the power of persuasion in the form of a Coors Light! Easy Eddies is a good destination for a ride anytime you can get there, but make a special effort to get over there on February 11th when they are hosting The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 14th Attempt, Almost a Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day Oyster Roast & Party. There will be free oysters and chicken wings and raffles for a big flat screen TV and a diamond heart pendant as well as many other door prizes. Come prepared to party! Easy Eddies is located at 12125 Statesville Road (Hwy 21) in Huntersville, NC 28078. Google Easy Eddie’s, go to Facebook, or call 704-875-2501 for more information.

By: DaPapaBear Well another year has come and gone. I hope everyone had a great Christmas, got all the goodies they wanted, and started the new year off with some partying! That means you will do a lot of it thru out the coming year. Hopefully! I hope you made some resolutions, some needed, some not so, some you will keep, and some you will not. That’s just the way it goes. I got to go out and party with some great folks at “The Time Out Hut” in Lexington this New Year’s Eve. The “South of Normal” band was playing the tunes for the partygoers. Not especially my type of music but seemed to be a pretty good band and well liked by most in attendance. They did play couple tunes of ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin that I was familiar with and did a great job on them. Thought they had a pretty good turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, some a little more than others, if you know what I mean. Some of the partiers drinking spirits were certainly turning their inhibitions loose. The Time Out Hut had some balloons and noisemakers ready for action, and some treats passed out a little before the midnight hour. Everyone joined in the count down to the magic hour and then the kisses, hugs, and congratulatory slaps and pats were passed around. Overall, I think all had a good time. If you did not get out to celebrate this New Year’s Eve, make plans for next year and don’t let us down. But don’t wait until next New Year’s to drop in have a drink and see what’s going on at The Time Out Hut, 410 Piedmont Drive in Lexington, NC. We have got some great parties, rides, and events coming up all through the New Year. So, get ready, and get out and ride! Check out the www.fullthrottlemagazine.com website for some pics from events around the area. As always, keep the rubber side down, and see you down the road.

Anti Discrimination Bill To Be Introduced In South Carolina
By: Matt Danielson, Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group Have you ever attempted to park in a public parking lot or parking garage and been faced with a sign reading that motorcycles are not allowed? Have you ever attempted to use any roadway to enter any public property only to find out that motorcycles may not enter the property? If we are successful in this year’s legislative session such discrimination will be illegal in the State of South Carolina. This issue has arisen several times over the last year, particularly in the Charleston area. Those who have been denied access to public transportation facilities were justifiably angry. If the state, or any city county or town uses public money to build, maintain or operate any roadway or transportation facility, they should not be able to keep motorcyclists from using them. We as motorcyclists pay taxes, which fund these projects. We should not be told that we can’t use them. This led Chad Fuller, who works out of our Columbia office, as well as members of ABATE of South Carolina to seek a legislative remedy to this practice. I am happy to announce that Representative Todd Atwater, who represents the Lexington area in the House of Representatives, has graciously and enthusiastically agreed to introduce legislation to prohibit such discrimination in the State of South Carolina. Attached is the proposed legislation, which we drafted and which will be introduced by Representative Atwater. When the legislation is assigned to a committee we will forward the contact information for all members of the committee so that anyone who wishes to contact the committee members may. Should anyone wish to contact Representative Atwater to thank him for introducing this legislation on behalf of all motorcyclists you may do so at http://www.scstatehouse.gov/email. php?T=M&C=67045447 As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns about anything I have written, feel free to give Chad Fuller or me a call at 1-800-321-8968. ANTI DISCRIMINATION BILL Will be introduced this session. Representative Todd Atwater Lexington – District 87 320 D Blatt Building Columbia, South Carolina 29201 (803) 212-6924
Policy of the State of South Carolina regarding use of highways by motorcycles; discrimination by political subdivisions prohibited. In formulating transportation policy; promulgating regulations; allocating funds; and planning, designing, constructing, equipping, operating and maintaining transportation facilities, no action of the South Carolina Transportation Commission, the South Carolina Transportation Commissioners, or the South Carolina Department of Transportation shall in any way have the effect of discriminating against motorcycles, motorcycle operators, or motorcycle passengers. No regulation or action of the Commission, Commissioners or Department shall have the effect of enacting a prohibition or imposing a requirement that applies only to motorcycles or motorcyclists, and the principal purpose of which is to restrict or inhibit access of motorcycles and motorcyclists to any highway, bridge, tunnel, or other transportation facility. The provisions of this section shall also apply to transportation facilities and projects undertaken or operated by counties, cities, towns, and other political subdivisions of the State of South Carolina where public funds have been used in whole or in part to plan, design, construct, equip, operate, or maintain the facility or project.

THE CAROLINAS’ FULL THROTTLE MAGAZINE IS LOOKING FOR SALES REPS IN

By: Judy Bortz Turbo’s Birthday Bash was held Saturday, January 14th at Outlaw Customs in Wilmington, NC. Everyone that braved the cooler temperatures riding in was rewarded with a beautiful sunny day to celebrate and raise money for a beautiful strong woman. Jennifer Turbeville is 37 years young and has been fighting ovarian cancer for the past 3 years. On the day of her birthday bash she was hospitalized, but she did show up via computer to visit with and thank her supporters. I spoke with Turbo for a bit, and she was truly overwhelmed with emotion at the generosity of all those who contributed to her day! Bar-B-Q plates of pulled pork, slaw, beans and roll were supplied by Atlantic Recovery and sold for $7 per plate. Kudos to the pit master, the food was delicious, and over 250 plates were sold throughout the day. DJ Shaft, who rocked the place till the very end, donated the music! Matt Legwin, owner and operator of Outlaw Customs has known Turbo for 15 years and was happy to organize the event and donate his time and shop to host the fundraiser. Matt, with a little help from his friends, was able to raise $3500 to help with Turbo’s medical bills, which have become unmanageable for her since her diagnosis. Matt worked as painter for Britt’s Motorsports for the past 15 years. He opened Outlaw Customs located at 6413 Amsterdam Way in Wilmington, NC about a year ago, and has had his work pictured in a variety of biker magazines. Visit Outlaw Customs on Facebook to see some of Matt’s work.

INDEPENDENT REAR SUSPENSION FOR HARLEY-DAVIDSONS & HONDAS By: Rose and Lloyd January. Winter. “Riding season” is gone, except on those few exceptional days we get when you can suit up and meet some friends and chase the sun. We were lucky to have a nice day in the 60’s on January 7th. We put on the long johns and chaps and met some great friends from United Riders Riding Club at about 12 noon. The weather was just nice enough to enjoy a beautiful ride through the country. It’s a great route with lots of great scenery if you have never taken it. We left out and headed to Hillsville and got on Hoover Hill Road to Hwy 64. We took Cid road through Jackson Creek to 109, proceeded to 49 and into Albemarle. At Albemarle we had a great lunch at a nice place, and very biker friendly called Harmanco’s. It was so beautiful we were able to sit on the patio, socialize and have a great lunch. After lunch we headed to Morrow Mountain, which is always a great ride. There were bikes everywhere, probably because no one knew when another beautiful day would come our way. If you have never been to Morrow Mountain it is definitely a ride you should take. It is pretty amazing to see a mountain just standing in the middle of the country. It is right out side the city of Badin. The scenic route takes you across Badin Lake a couple times and into a small town called New London. There are always other bikers there and it is a good place to meet new people and talk bike talk. You know what I mean, “Love those pipes!” “Have you taken baffles out?” “Where did you get your bike?” “How many miles you got on it?” All that biker talk. We have a 2007 Heritage Softail with over 54,000 miles on it and ride all year long, but we definitely like the the warmer days better. I hate the days we have to keep the bike in and pray for sunshine. This time of year we usually take short trips with friends, but it’s definitely still worth getting suited up and getting out there for a few hours and chasing the sun.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine
Kaydon’s Run By: Jeanie Hood-Carter In October of 2011 someone submitted a request to Bikers For Bikers Foundation for help with payment for a specifically trained service dog for an autistic child whose family couldn’t afford the needed dog. After investigating and some discussion, the foundation decided to take on this challenge and began putting together a benefit. BFBF was organized to help injured/sick bikers and needy children, but this was the first time someone had actually applied for help for a child. On January 14th it was cold, to the tune of about 24º when we arrived at Ray Price Harley-Davidson in Raleigh, NC. Luckily, Ray Price H-D always has coffee on. People were registering by 10am and the crowd was building. People were still pulling in at 11, so the kickstands didn’t actually go up until about 11:20am. There were a number of people who didn’t ride due to the cold but came for the music, chili, and just to support the cause. The fun part was recognizing the friends from Internet sites that we had never actually met before and seeing old friends from other areas like Winston-Salem, Burlington, and Gastonia who came to support the cause. I made 5 gallons of homemade “Texas Biker Chili” minus about a dozen jalapenos. Wes Carter, VP, got the chili going on the burner, and Kaydon arrived with his mom, teacher, and little sister a shortly after noon. He was quite the ham when it came to pictures. There are many levels of Autism. Kaydon has “severe meltdowns” and is unable to cope with certain things. Some children are more severely impaired than others. Luckily, Kaydon is able to handle some noise, but other things will cause him to have uncontrollable changes. The dog in training, Argon also made an appearance with the trainers from Allen’s Place at Diamond B Farms & Kennels. The live music provided by Total Strangers, a rock & roll band from Youngsville, NC, was so good that people were coming out of the dealership wanting business cards and information on how to contact them. Niva won 1st place, and Stephan Hicks won 2nd place on the Poker Run, which were both prizes donated by Ray Price H-D, Judy Carter won the 50/50 which she donated back and Toni Lipscomb cleaned up on the raffle. She should have tools for all the men in her life at Christmas next year! Though the benefit was a success making almost $1500, we fell short of the needed $4K to pay for the dog. We still have about 80 tee shirts for sale with Kaydon’s picture on them. You can purchase one at www.bikersforbikersfoundation.com. All the monies go toward the payment for the dog. Also, Bikers For Bikers Foundation would like to thank Ray Price H-D for having us there and providing the top prizes, Total Strangers for the great music, Murray’s Tire Bargains, Savage & Heads Tattoos, Billy Cummings, Pastimes, and Allen’s Place at Diamond B Farms & Kennels for sponsoring this event, Barry Moore for taking pictures, and of course all who helped and came out to support the cause.
