here were days in January, February, and March when I rode my bike in short sleeves, but the winter seemed to return right after that. In April, I went to the Grasshoppers season opener. They lost, but the temperature at game time was in the low 70s. By the time they set the fireworks off and we were leaving the stadium it was in the upper 60s and I declared that winter was over. Our Dogwood is in full bloom as are the Azaleas and tulips. Then came a night with temps in the low 30s and the tulips were gone! It has been a real rollercoaster ride this spring, but I think that we are through it now. May has everyone getting their bikes ready to ride and thinking about Myrtle Beach Bike Week. Check out the Myrtle Beach Bike Week section on pages 47-54 in this issue. But before you ride anywhere in May, check out The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar. It is bustin’ at the seams with events large and small. This is, hands down, the best listing of events on the entire east coast. It has more events with more information for more years than any other and we are proud to bring it to you FREE thanks to the advertisers’ support. Be a part of it! We (and our staff) will be at many events this summer because we are bikers that publish a magazine, not publishers who own motorcycles. We may see you out at those events. Stop and introduce yourself and it will give us an opportunity to take your picture. If you are not at the events we are, you can read about them in an upcoming issue. You can also send us a story and pictures of your event and we will gladly publish it. It ain’t rocket science! Do not pass up an opportunity to enjoy life with your friends on your motorcycle. It is too short and fleeting. We may never pass this way again!

Smokin’ Harley-Davidson Demo Days By: Caroline Demo Days, one of the most popular events, was back at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson on April 12-13. That is the time when folks can actually come out and test ride any or all of the new 2014 bikes that are at the dealership - and there are plenty to choose from! This event consists of a 12 mile test ride through back roads and main highways so that you can get a good idea of what you can expect from that special bike you might have had your eye on. Or, if you can’t make up your mind then you can test ride as many as you want. Another feature that I thought was special, was the Jump Start Bike was set up outside for folks that are not currently riders. That is a real Harley-Davidson motorcycle that is set up so that a non-rider can be in a stationary position. It allows a person to sit on the bike while it is running and know what it is like to manage the gears and controls without moving. It really gives them a good preliminary idea

of what riding a motorcycle is about. It appeared that the whole event was a great success. There were vendors set up all around the dealership, giving it a festive atmosphere. The Winston-Salem HOG Chapter was on hand to lend their support by providing road captains and selling some good food. I talked to one fellow who had just come from one of the demo rides. He told me that although he has been riding motorcycles for many years, this was the first Harley he had ever ridden and he was impressed! I have to say that statement was a perfect example of what Smokin’ hoped to accomplish and it looks like they have found a new potential customer. 2nd Annual Bikes On The Border By: Matt Danielson The Second Annual Bikes On The Border was held March 21st and 22nd in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. We had 67 registrations, up 63% from last year. The conference was an opportunity for motorcyclists from the Carolinas and Virginia to gather and discuss topics of importance to motorcyclists and to motorcycle rights organizations. Attendees arrived Friday, March 21st and enjoyed fellowship over a few beverages at the hospitality room. The following day, the conference was held at the H. Lawrence Patrick Conference Center in Kings Mountain. Topics covered included federal legislation affecting motorcyclists, a panel discussion on effective lobbying on both the state and federal level, insurance law and how it affects motorcyclists, and a presentation on dealing with toxic members in your motorcycle rights organization. There was also a roundtable discussion on issues of importance to motorcyclists in each state in attendance. Presenters included Dennis Welborne with ABATE of South Carolina, Cindy Hodges with CBA/ABATE of North Carolina, John Pierce with ABATE of Oklahoma, Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Governmental Affairs and Public Relations for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), as well as members of Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group Tatanka Motor Club. The conference concluded with a banquet featuring a silent auction as well as a 50/50 raffle with the proceeds of both going to the MRF. The auction and raffle raised $827 for the MRF. Given the feedback we received from attendees, a Third Annual Bikes on the Border is inevitable. We are looking forward to announcing the details in the future.

5th Annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals At zMAX Dragway Story and photo by Alan Dockery On the second weekend of April, 40,000 horsepower repeatedly rattled Concord, NC, when the National Hot Rod Association came to town for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series 5th Annual Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway. This is the only race on the NHRA circuit where they run four lanes instead of two. So you could see Pro Stock Motorcycles and Cars, plus Top Fuelers and Funny Cars run four at a time. Three experienced racers from North Carolina competed in the Pro Stock Motorcycle Class. Shawn Gann; Stoneville, NC; rode the Pirana Z Racing Buell. Matt and Angie Smith, King, NC, competed on their Buells. Even though he’s from Connecticut, we still cheered for John Hall since he races with the Matt Smith team. Scotty Pollacheck may be from Oregon, but he is another racer on Matt’s team. Harley-Davidson fields two teams for riders Andrew Hines and Eddie Kraweic. In the Four-Wide Nationals, the top two finishers advance to the next round. Matt Smith and Gann didn’t make it out of the first round. Matt lit the red light when he left two thousandths of a second too soon. Gann was a little late off

the starting line. Angie Smith had the quickest reaction in her quad at the start but was third at the finish line on her Stockseth / Kandy Magazine Buell in the first round. I sure saw a bunch of y’all getting her autograph and photo with the Kandy Girls. Hall and Pollacheck made it through their first two rounds to face the two Harleys in the final. Both had great lights at the start, but problems down the track had the Harleys racing for the win. It was an exciting finish with Hines taking the trophy by less than a bike length. The NHRA is the premier drag racing series in the world. Pro Stock Motorcycles are scheduled to race again at zMax Dragway September 12-14. If you can’t make it to a race, you can still cheer for the Carolina teams racing with NHRA on ESPN.

Homeless Heroes Poker Run

By: Old Spook The homeless heroes poker run supports the Veteran’s Village facility at the old Navy base as well as an expanding location at Ashley Phosphate Road. Randy, President of the Warhorse Brotherhood MC, has helped to host this event for 8 years. Helping all veterans’ causes has been the Warhorse Brotherhood’s mission. I met with “Snake” of the WHB who was there to coordinate the run at Low Country Harley-Davidson. The word definitely got out as the Warhorse Brotherhood kicked off another successful fundraiser. Over 200 bikes were registered and nearly $9000 was raised for the Veteran’s Village. The run started at Low Country-Harley Davidson and snaked it’s way to Smokey’s Place Bar & Grill in North Charleston, Shooters in Summerville, Cat Daddy’s in Ridgeville, Wolf Track Inn in Charleston, Red’s Ice House in Mt. Pleasant, Richard’s Bar & Grill in Mt. Pleasant, and finished up for the after party at Moonshines in Summerville. The entire trip covered 118 miles. DB Bryant and David Cooler Band, helped to kick off the party, which was well attended.

Locked And Loaded Bike Show By: GypsyRose Sunday, April 13th was more like a summer day than a spring day, but what a day for a bike show. The day started out with over 15 vendors taking over part of the parking lot at Locked And Loaded in Garner, NC. There is nothing more exciting than hearing music in the air and the roar of motorcycles. It was apparent that the warm weather brought people out in droves because the inside of Locked And Loaded was so packed you couldn’t even walk and that’s not counting the people outside sitting and the people walking around. With all that was going on you would have thought it was a bike rally not a bike show. Beside the vendors, there was live music through out the day. They also had BBQ chicken plates for sale in addition to the food they were selling on the inside. Beer as well as mixed drinks and soft drinks were also available. Registration was at Z & J Bait and Tackle in Bahama, NC. Firehead Sports in Durham donated 100 benefit t-shirts for us to sell to help with raising money. The owner of Z & J Bait and Tackle were the first donation to our ride with a $100 donation. When registration closed we proceeded to the Local Watering Hole in Durham. After a brief stop there we then went to Van’s Bar in Bahama. From there we ended at Big Daddy’s Country Club in Rougemont. By: Mark (Stretch) Carlyle The sun was out over the Carolinas on Saturday, April 12th. The sun spred its rays over a new rising son in the Carolinas. C&S Custom Creations has hit the map in a big way in Rock Hill, SC. Scotty has built this business with bare bones and a mindset that no one can stop. He opened a year ago in a small shop in Rock Hill with a non-stop attitude you need these days to make any business a success. This past winter, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle gave him a contact in Florida for a build off. Little did we know what an impact it would have on him, his shop, and all of his friends and family. After building his first chopper and showing it in Florida’s Full Throttle build off, his business has taken OFF! Not only was he inducted into the Master Bike Builders Association of America, he had to find a bigger shop. So, he made a call and ended up with the building Country’s Harley-Davidson once occupied. Saturday, April 12th was the official Grand Opening for Scotty and his wife Crystal. We had the privilege to make this an official Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine event. With live music provided by Chubby Knuckles and Rusty Pilot the music never stopped. Scotty cooked the Bar-B-Que himself and the cold beverages flowed (I can’t mention what all that included). I dare say that all in all about 300 people came through the shop just to see what was going on. All the bikes that lined the street in front of the shop had the traffic slowing down to look at what was going on! As the day went on we had a corn hole tournament, ride in bike show, and countless raffles. C&S Custom Creations has a raffle for a free paint job running till the end of April. Who doesn’t want a free paint job for their ride? So, go by C&S Custom Creations and get your ticket for $20. The bikinis came out for a charity bike wash with the money going to fallen brother Bobby Hammond’s grandchildren. The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine was on hand to socialize and give out free t-shirts, shot glasses, and koozies. Scotty & Crystal want to invite everyone to come by and just say hello. United Nations General Assembly Calls For Global Mandatory Helmet Law By: Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs, Motorcycle Riders Foundation Recently the 68th session of the United Nations voted to approve a non-binding resolution entitled “Improving Global Road Safety,” which sounds innocent enough, but when closely examined, has some very disturbing ideas concerning motorcyclists, motorcycles, and helmet laws.   The most disturbing directive is “to encourage Member States (countries participating in the UN) to enact comprehensive legislation on key risk factors for road traffic injuries including the non-use of helmets.” Or in other words, universal mandatory global helmet law. Keep in mind this is a non-binding resolution, but many countries and legislative bodies take the UN’s suggestions very seriously. This is the warning shot across the bow. The United Nations is coming for motorcyclists. That is why it is so unfortunate that America’s own Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and a member of President Obama’s Cabinet voted in support of the resolution. She even spoke to the General Assembly in strong support of the resolution.   The non-binding resolution has some other very troubling issues with regards to motorcyclists. For instance, one of the

directives claims that there are insufficient policies in place to protect motorcyclists. The idea that one type of policy would work for every country in the United Nations is beyond fantasy. Our diverse global motorcycle community cannot exist under a one-size fit all approach.   Another section of the resolution recognizes and commends The UN Economic Commission for Europe and the World Forum for the Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations to modify vehicle regulations to increase safety. This is essential in the UN calling for global harmonization of policy that could include helmet laws and universal vehicle anti-tampering measures. Both of these would devastate the motorcycle community and aftermarket industry in America.   It is a clear picture of the mindset of the UN to support such an over-reaching resolution. By muddying the waters with controversial policies, the UN loses support for some very good ideas concerning distracted driving and Good Samaritan policies.   The MRF is engaged on this and will keep you informed about this issue.

Woodleaf Speedway Flat Track Season Opens Story and photo by Alan Dockery Hey, y’all! Flat track motorcycle racing season has started at Woodleaf Speedway near Woodleaf, NC. Races are planned for the first Saturday night each month and they run several classes for everyone from kids on little 50cc bikes to older guys on cool vintage machines. Beautiful weather on the first Saturday in April and the first race of the season for the Southeast Motorcycle Dirt Track Racing Association brought a good crowd to the little ole country dirt track owned by Donnie and Anita Williams. SEMDTRA is a touring series that has spent the past few years rebuilding interest in flat track racing in the Carolinas and surrounding areas. “We had 132 entries,” Anita said, “That’s a terrific start to our flat track program.” If your riding group is looking for someplace different to go, plan a ride to Woodleaf Speedway and watch the bikes sliding sideways. Woodleaf Speedway is about 15 miles East of Statesville. Take Exit 49A off of I-77 like you are going to Tilley H-D and head East on Hwy. 70. Turn North on Hwy 801, after the

U.S. EPA to FTC: Ethanol Harmful To Motorcycles By: Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs, Motorcycle Riders Foundation Recently the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) proposed a new rule regarding the labeling of ethanol blended fuels in order to “help fuel purchasers identify the correct fuel for their vehicles.” Ironically, the new rule would exempt any fuel meeting the Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA) E15 waiver from the proposed labeling requirements.   In the record section of the proposed rule, the EPA provides information under the “objections to the proposed labels” section openly stating that ethanol is harmful to motor vehicles, and specifically mentions that ethanol is damaging to motorcycles. The EPA indicates two major ways that ethanol affects vehicles. First, ethanol enleans the air to fuel ratio by increasing the proportion of oxygen relative to hydrocarbons. This can lead to higher exhaust temperatures and can possibly cause catalyst failure by gradually deteriorating emission control equipment. Next, other component failures can occur due to materials compatibility issues with ethanol use.  The EPA also found, that ethanol can damage older conventional cars, heavy-duty engines, motorcycles, and non-road engines, explaining: “Older motor vehicles, heavy-duty gasoline engines and vehicles, motorcycles, and especially non-road products cannot fully compensate for the change in the stoichiometric air-to-fuel ratio as ethanol concentration increases. Over time, this enleanment caused by ethanol may lead to thermal degradation of the emissions control hardware and ultimately catalyst failure. Higher ethanol concentration will exacerbate the enleanment effect in these vehicles, engines, and equipment and therefore increase the potential of thermal degradation and risk of catalyst failure. In addition to enleanment, ethanol can cause materials compatibility issues, which may lead to other component failure and ultimately exhaust

and/or evaporative emission increases. For older motor vehicles, heavy-duty gasoline engines and vehicles, motorcycles, and non-road products, the potential for materials compatibility issues increases with higher ethanol concentration.”   The Motorcycle Riders Foundation has been attempting to block the widespread sale of E15 and higher blends until they have been fully studied. The MRF supports U.S. House of Representatives bill H.R. 875, a bill that would halt the sale of E15 and commission an independent scientific study to determine all of the effects of E15 on an internal combustion motor. The lack of demand for E15 has the EPA proposing that ethanol manufacturers produce less ethanol than they have for the past few years.   Additionally a study done by the University of Nebraska, the third highest corn producing state in the country, found that using corn crop residue (considered a ready source for ethanol production) is harmful to the environment by generating more greenhouse gasses than traditional gasoline.   The Federal Trade Commission is still taking public comments on the labeling requirements. Simply slapping another label on a fuel pump is not the best way to prevent misfueling. Separate pumps, like diesel, need to be developed and installed. Let the FTC know that you don’t like the fact that fuels meeting the E15 EPA waiver are exempted, and more labels are not going to lead to less misfueling. The Melissa White Bike Run By: Everette “EZ” Short By noon, on Saturday, March 29th it was raining hard and puddles in the road were getting deeper by the minute. Across the lot, it looked like a bear peeing on a rock, in the middle of a lake and The Melissa White Bike Run was sure to be a complete wash. Then, with five minutes left to kickstands up, the heavens parted and the ride against Breast Cancer was on at The Swingbridge Saloon in Little River, SC. It was all-good by the time we got to the first stop at Rockefellers, (a little local watering hole in Loris) and the air temperatures had gone up enough to shed the leathers. We all thought it was very groovy, but by the time we got back to the beach area to roll up on Longbeards Bar & Grill in Carolina Forrest for the second stop, there was a hard nipple breeze in the air. As we left for the next stop at The Waterway House (formerly The Dog House North) we began to run up on wet fog, wet winds, wet roads, wet hair and some wet underwear since people at the beach are mostly not from the beach and they never drive well under wet conditions. Note to whomever was not paying attention while driving their nice, new cage ~ WATCH WHAT YOU’RE DOING! WE (BIKERS) REALLY ARE EVERYWHERE and APPARENTY WE ARE NOT ALWAYS WHERE YOU ARE LOOKING! By the time we got to the next stop, at Capt’n Poo’s on the Intercoastal Waterway in Little River, Melissa was well enough to join the riders that had braved the storms to show her their love. Then, it was back to The Swingbridge Saloon for a big blow out finale with a fantastic pig pickin’ and some karaoke dance music, before The Sunset Band hit the stage.

By the way, a big Slap-on-the-Back to Jeff Long for taking the whole ride and putting up with the after party madness. If you were there, then you know there was a lot of fun, food, prizes, and even some tears along the way, but, in the end, the over 80 riders, family, and a lot of new best friends who showed up were all winners. When we have this HOPE as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure, we are blessed in the company of friends and family we have met along the way. Camp Corral Charity Bike Run

By: Cynthia Morrow On Saturday, April 5th, Golden Corral #559 located in Jacksonville, NC hosted the 1st charity bike run with all money raised going to Camp Corral. Beautiful sunny weather brought a great turn out starting at Golden Corral at noon then riding though Surf City and ending at Dukenfields in Half Moon. We where able to raise over $2500. Thank you to everyone who attended! Camp Corral founded by Golden Corral in 2011, is a free weeklong summer camp for children of wounded, disabled, or fallen military families. Camp Corral provides the kids with non-stop activities like canoeing, arts and crafts, swimming, archery, and encourages campers to create friendships and bond with other kids who share similar family situations. The SC Biker Hall Of Fame 1st Annual Ceremony

By: Everette “EZ” Short Finally, spring was sprung at the beach with two consecutive days of 70º plus sunshine and the stage was set on Saturday, March 22nd for the 1st ever induction of six legendary individuals into The SC Biker Hall Of Fame. By sunset, intermittent showers threatened us with brief downpours and the cool nectar of adult beverages had been flowing all afternoon, while Joe Santana and Kingfish played on the main stage at Suck, Bang, Blow in Murrells Inlet. By the time the ceremony began at 9pm the speeches were mostly mumbling “Thank You” from the recipients as they accepted their awards. Thankfully, our gracious host, Bill Barber, held the boisterous crowd together throughout the evening (and into the wee morning hours) with Suicide Jimmy taking the stage to perform his “Don’t Be A Word Er” comedy act. The SC Biker Hall of Fame is the brainchild of our own Bill Barber with judges consisting of Will Couch, Kirk Yedinak, Maiko Saravia and Dickie Martin to round out the Board of Directors for this spanking new non-profit organization. This year’s winners included Donny “The Dogfather” Emery, Emmit Jones from SC ABATE and Rolling Thunder, John “Brother Speed” Finley, Keith “Stump” Williams, SBB Founder & all around great guy, Jimmy Motley, Richard Sowash, and Robert “Tommy” Saunders. Tommy Saunders was the only person to receive his award posthumously, with his wife, son and family there in his stead. Each one of these six men are legends in their own right and it was good to see them get the recognition that is rightfully theirs. Among the audience were dozens of nominees who were all loud, happy, and severely lubricated by the night’s end, as we stood around a bonfire that reminded me of days long past. Earlier in the day, the new SBB Bridge was dedicated and opened to the public with a flourish of broken champagne

bottles. The bridge links the main bar to the back warehouse and was built as a true act of love in the sky to over look the madness that is SBB. During Bike Week, stop in at SBB and see the living legends and those of days gone by that make up the SC Biker Hall Of Fame. Memorial Ride For Rocky

By: Old Spook Sadly, another of your riding brethren has passed. Rodney “Rocky” McGlade, 8 years a marine and 18 with the DNR has succumbed to brain cancer at the age of 47. Rocky was well known and well liked in the biker community. He was a member of American Legion Post 166 for 7 years. Known for his photography, he had helped a number of biker organizations with his work. He leaves behind his wife Jackie. The Legion Rider Honor Guard fired a salute to Rocky and a formal flag ceremony was held. Bruce Richburg, Commander of the Post 166 Legion Riders, presented the flag to his wife, Jackie. Following the ceremony all of his friends retraced his typical steps that would follow his traditional Sunday morning breakfast at Post 166, for a ride to the Steel Horse for a bloody mary! Following that they headed for Geno’s in Goose Creek. The food for the party was donated by his friends. All proceeds for the run were in support of cancer research.

The Brian Collins And Family Community Benefit

By: Everette “EZ” Short One fine night Brian Collins was headed to work on his motorcycle when a pizza delivery person drove over him, sending him to the hospital and spinning his life out of control. Brian lived through the accident, but he will be bound to wheelchair for some time, which makes it impossible for him to work right now. That is where the true truly tragic part of this story comes in. You see, Brian is a single parent who has two children who depend on him for everything. So, just like it should be, his brothers and sisters, his MC and a few others got together in a call to action for The Brian Collins And Family Community Benefit on Sunday, April 6th at The Acme Bar & Grill in Murrells Inlet. The day was spectacular, with an outstanding turnout from the MCs and civilians alike. When I got there, the bar was full and there were more Red and White in the parking lot than you’ve seen at any one place lately. Several of the local SC clubs showed up with good cheer and good times in the wind with them. Brian himself was out in the front of ACME when I got there and he rolled himself up to meet with me for pictures. All in all, it was a good day to help out a brother in a bad situation.

I’m not a doctor, but from the smile on his face I would say that Brian will be back on his bike in no time and he has a lot of friends that came out to show him he is not alone on his journey to recovery. The pictures were sparse for obvious reasons and I got there right when the warmth of the sun started to fade behind the clouds. I wish I had more time to spend with everyone, as this is a spectacular bunch with great stories to tell. Let me put out a big Thank You to everyone who participated. Godspeed Brian and get well quickly. We expect to see you riding by the time you read this in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

By: JC Childers On Sunday April 6th, a bunch of crusty, rusty OLD locals that have ridden together since back in the day (so far back that you knew who was on the bike coming at you down the road) held their semi-annual reunion party at The City Line Saloon. There was great food, music, and socializing with the folks we don’t see every day for whatever reason. It was SOOOO good to see many that have dropped off the grid. At this meeting, the weather cooperated and the rain held off until we all were safely home, nice and dry. Seems a good time was had by all and I am personally looking forward to doing it all again. For those of you that missed it, you should try to make the next one scheduled for October 5th 2014 at 1pm at the City Line Saloon. This event is open to all so drop on in. Her Diary: Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment on it. Conversation wasn’t flowing, so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed, but he didn’t say much. I asked him what was wrong; He said, “Nothing.” I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said he wasn’t upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it. On the way home, I told him I loved him. He smiled slightly, and kept driving. I can’t explain his behavior I don’t know why he didn’t say, ‘I love you, too.’ When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent. Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed. But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep – and I cried. I don’t know what to do. I’m almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster. His Diary: Motorcycle won’t start, can’t figure out why.

With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it was likely that he’d sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified. The old rancher threw down his tools, ran as fast as he could to the fence, and yelled at the top of his lungs, “Your badge! Show him your badge!”

Each church and synagogue in a small town was overrun with pesky squirrels! One day, the Presbyterian Church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn’t interfere with God’s divine will. In the Baptist church the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a cover on the baptistery and drown the squirrels in it. The squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next week. The United Church got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God’s creation. So, they humanely trapped the Squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back. But the Catholic church came up with the best and most effective solution. They baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, and Easter. Not much was heard about the Jewish Synagogue, but they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called circumcision. They haven’t seen a squirrel on the property since.

My granny lectured me about her practical knowledge: “For better digestion, I drink beer, for loss of appetite I drink white wine, with low blood pressure red wine, with high blood pressure, cognac, and whenever I have a cold, I drink Vodka.” “And when do you drink water?” “I have never been that sick!”

A DEA Agent stopped at a ranch in Texas and talked to an old rancher. He told the rancher, “I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs.” The rancher said, “?Okay, but don’t go into that field over there...”, as he pointed out the location. The DEA Agent verbally exploded and said, “Look mister, I have the authority of the federal government with me!” Reaching into his rear back pocket, the arrogant officer removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher. “See this badge?! This badge means I can go wherever I want... On any land! No questions asked, no answers given! Do you understand old man?!” The rancher

Last Tuesday President Obama got off the helicopter in front of the White House - carrying a baby piglet under each arm. The squared-away Marine guard snapped to attention, saluted and said: “Nice pigs, sir.” The President replied: “These are not pigs. These are authentic Arkansas Razorback Hogs. I got one for Secretary of State John Kerry, and I got one for Senator Harry Reid.” The squared-away Marine again snapped to attention, salutes and said, “Excellent trade, sir. Yesterday I was at my local COSTCO buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Jake, the Wonder Dog and was in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had an elephant? So because I’m retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn’t have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn’t, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I’d lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is, to load your pants pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care, because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff a poodle’s ass and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Costco won’t let me shop there anymore.

Three girls all worked in the same office with the same female boss. Each day, they watched the boss leave work early. One day, the girls decided that, when the boss left, they would leave right behind her. After all, she never called or came back to work, so how would she know they went home early? The brunette was thrilled to be home early. She did a little gardening, spent playtime with her son, and went to bed early. The redhead was elated to be able to get in a quick workout at the spa before meeting a dinner date. The blonde was happy to get home early and surprise her husband, but when she got to her bedroom, she heard a muffled noise from inside. Slowly and quietly, she cracked open the door and was mortified to see her husband in bed with her boss! Gently she closed the door and crept out of the house. The next day, at their coffee break, the brunette and redhead said that they planned to leave early again, and they asked the blonde if she was going to go with them. No way! the blonde exclaimed. “I almost got caught yesterday!”

The Golden Rule

Greetings brothers and sisters, I’m sure everyone who reads this probably takes in some news stories daily like seeing the news on TV or reading updates on your computer, or maybe you hear news on your favorite radio station. Lately I am hearing and seeing so much about all kinds of abuse in the news. It’s daily and even more than one story on some days. It’s parents doing heinous crimes against their kids, starving them, putting them in cages, and tying them up. Children abusing their elderly parents by withholding food, water, and medication, even killing them for their money. The murder and the suicides and mass killings are all over the news! I mean it’s like I sit and think sometimes, “What in the world is this all coming to? Why and how are people so heartless and when did we become a people where there is no value on human life?” Then I realized that people lack compassion! When I was in public elementary school in the 70s they taught me the golden rule. “Do unto others and you would have them do unto you”. That can actually be found in Luke 6:31 in the Bible, but I was taught that in school and lived my life with that principal. In other words treat people right, because you want people to do you right. Be honest with people because you want people to be honest with you. What about compassion? Where is the compassion? Compassion literally means “to suffer together.” Among emotion researchers, it is defined as the feeling that arises when you are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering. I want to leave you with a few scriptures and something to think about. Even though things around us are troubled on every side, we can take a stand and make a difference to those in our lives, our family, and our community. First off, if you don’t know Jesus, pray the biker prayer and ask Him into your heart today and then start living a life of compassion and make the golden rule your daily rule! 10th Annual CBA ABATE of NC, Central District Spoker Run 2014 By: Uwharrie Charlie What a way to kick off the largest Spoker Run in the CBA’s Central District! With nearly 100 bikes in the ride and more at the destination, it was even bigger than last year! The Uwharrie Chapter began at Corner Pocket Sports Bar in Albemarle and headed East towards Troy and wound down River Rd. to 109 into the Uwharrie National Forrest and Eldorado Outpost. Then to Highway 8 & 49 where we stopped at the Tank-N-Tummy to draw another card and meet with eight more chapters and friends/guests that were convening from their respective chapter locations. There were so many people that one couldn’t possibly meet them all here. The whole group fired their engines to head to the next stop which was at Tamarac Marina & Grill. While there was a large fishing tournament going on there, we managed to fit in and had a good time catching-up with friends and such all around the place. Bikini season has certainly arrived! Hey! It’s time to roll out of here and head to the final stop in Salisbury to get a taste of Gary Livengood’s “Bite My Butt” BBQ & Catering. That’s good enough to get me rolling! The

Cabarrus/Rowan Chapter of the CBA is hosting this event at Tim Rogers’ Stars And Bars Tavern on Klumac Rd. with DJ Dougie Fresh spinnin’ the tunes! The place was packed inside and out. Only bikes were allowed to park on the lot that day and it was so full the overflow of bikes were sent around back to the event area. It isn’t unusual to see bikes all over the place at Stars And Bars. Tim says “Park wherever you like, pitch a tent and stay a while!” There was some folk camping when we were there, or appeared to with the sight of tents out back. Both the inside bar and outside bar were hopping as folks conversed and caughtup with brothers not seen for a while. Telling stories, lies, and some truth even was heard. It could have just been some mumble while we were putting down some great BBQ, who knows? Nine chapters were represented and raised $1405 for the cause! The $500 Grand Prize was won by Ali of the Charlotte Chapter who plans to donate it to charity. The Most Supportive Chapter was Charlotte! No doubt with their superior show of riders! And the winner of the $112 was K. Swann from Charlotte. The 40th Annual Charlotte CBA Swap Meet And Bike Show

By: WildThing Twice a year, in spring and fall, the Charlotte Chapter of Concerned Bikers Association punctuates the riding season with their rallies held at the Metrolina Fairgrounds in Charlotte, NC. Like a well-oiled machine, the members take on the huge task of preparing the buildings and outside areas for the vendors, set up parking attendants, and ticket handlers. At the appointed hour, the attendees start rolling in on bikes, and in trucks cars to inspect the wares offered for sale. The CBA brags that this is the oldest and largest show on the east coast! The vast array of old parts, used and sometimes rusted, and sometimes pristine, are displayed on tables, in the back of trailers and pickup trucks, or just on the ground in the vendor’s appointed spot. Then the haggling begins. Surely if you are building a work in progress or just up fitting your rare old gem, this is a good opportunity to score just what you are looking for. On a good day, you can find rolling chassis, wheels and tires, mini-bikes, and a huge variety of replacement parts for a large span of motorcycle production years. You have to come early to get the good deals. Inside the buildings are vendors with t-shirts, all sorts of riding gear, accessories, and all sorts of motorcycle related products. One whole building is set aside for the bike show, and it is usually well worth your time to visit and see just what the competition looks like. The CBA displays a table full of trophies for the winners. There are food vendors on-site, so you can always stop that stomach from rumbling. This area, of course, is where lots of visitors hang out and chat with friends, old and new, and catch up with what everybody is planning for the upcoming riding

season. There are adult refreshments sold at the outside bar and the inside bar, which is conveniently placed right in front of the bandstand. This spring, Bad Romeo entertained us. This high-energy band kept everyone toe tapping and some even dancing to their renditions of all our favorites. They helped out with the wet t-shirt contest and were a lot of fun to watch. You ought to watch for the Fall Charlotte CBA Swap Meet, because they put on quite a shindig. Just remember no pets, and no minors without adults. On the plus side, there is free admission for active military, they give away a $500 gift certificate both days, and there is a Sunday morning gate special 2 for 1 between 10 am and12 pm. Almost Born In A Sidecar By: WildThing James Goulding of Melbourne, Australia, born in England in 1885 and whose family immigrated to Australia in 1889, grew up to be an energetic and ambitious young man. He had his own home building business and his first Harley-Davidson motorcycle by 1908. He designed his first sidecar to haul his building tools and implemented a floating axle system that made it durable. In 1911, he married Mary Olive Ratford and in 1912, they produced a daughter, destined to become motorcycling’s most famous lady, Dot Goulding Robinson. For years, legend had the birth occurring in a sidecar, but the truth of the matter is James rushed Olive to a doctor in a 1911 Harley belt-drive motorcycle with a Goulding sidecar. By 1915, James had a sizeable sidecar manufacturing business in Australia and in 1920 decided to introduce Goulding Sidecars to America. By 1926 the family had relocated to Saginaw, Michigan where James continued to build his sidecars and run a Harley-Davidson dealership. As a teenager, Dot worked as a bookkeeper in her father’s Harley shop and by chance a motorcyclist named Earl Robinson came in to purchase a quart of oil and came back so often to visit the spunky red-head that they hired him as a mechanic. By 1931 Earl and Dot were married and running the Harley shop. All through that decade, they were both riding motorcycles and competing in endurance runs. Since Dot was only 5’2” and couldn’t touch both feet on the uneven ground in the woods, she competed in the sidecar class, carrying a male passenger. She won her first trophy in a 100-mile race with a perfect score. She competed in the famous and grueling twoday Jack Pine Enduro where out of 88 entries only 41 finished the 500-mile course. Dot placed second in her class, triumphing over men who felt she had invaded their turf. In 1935, Earl and Dot set a transcontinental sidecar record from Los Angeles to New York at 89 hours and 58 minutes. Don’t forget in those days there were no highways, just dirt roads and the only paved streets were in the cities. It was about this time that the race sanctioning body, the American Motorcyclist Association, tried to rule that women could not compete in the Jack Pine and everyone knew the

rule was aimed at Dot. Her response was to get on her motorcycle and travel the country asking other competitors to sign a petition to allow women racers. They all did, as well as the many motorcycle dealerships that Dot mailed the petition to. She took the signed petitions to the AMA president and crashed the gender barrier by dumping the petitions on his desk! Her no-nonsense attitude and her quest for justice and equality shocked him, and he acquiesced to the validity of female competitors. Dot went on to race until 1961, winning trophies and plaques, eventually receiving AMA’s Most Typical Girl Rider in 1950 and was heralded as an example of a woman being a lady and riding the hell out of a motorcycle. Probably the most famous accomplishment of Dot Robinson is helping to form the first women’s motorcycle riding club with Linda Dugeau. The women wrote letters and rode motorcycles all over the country trying to locate women riders. Fiftyone charter members launched the first women’s motorcycle club, the Motor Maids, in 1940 and received their charter from AMA in 1941. Dot was appointed the first president and held that position for 25 years. Dot, always appeared with fresh make-up, stylish hairdo, and solid confidence in her femininity. She frequently had her motorcycles painted pink and they sported a lipstick holder on the handlebar. She traveled around the country, frequently clocking 50,000 miles a year, attending Motor Maid conventions in her perfectly pressed MM uniform with white boots and gloves all the while promoting the fact that women could ride their own bikes, compete with the men, and still be ladies through it all. The Robinson’s sold their Harley dealership in 1971 and retired to Florida. They both continued to ride motorcycles and even took a trip to Australia where they put 6000 miles on bikes. Dot had to stop riding at the age of 85 after knee surgery prevented her from getting and off a motorcycle easily. She figured she had totaled a million and a half miles on 35 different motorcycles. As a pioneer in promoting motorcycling for women from the 1930’s and on, Dot truly is the First Lady of Motorcycling. She was the fourth woman inducted in to the AMA’s Hall of Fame and passed away on October 8, 1999 at the age of 87. She once commented, “I made the fatal mistake along the way, I got old!”

Ray Price Racing Captures First Win of 2014 NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series Team sets Top Fuel Harley NHRA speed Record. The Ray Price Harley-Davidson drag race team captured its first NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series win at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, VA as part of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series on April 4-5, 2014. With the win came a Top Fuel Harley NHRA speed record with an impressive 234.66 MPH run in the final round of qualifying. The Akea/Ray Price sponsored drag bike started Friday’s first of two qualifying rounds by spinning the big rear tire and popping the motor. The team worked against the clock to swap the motor in time for the second round, but due to strong cross winds NHRA officials made the decision to cancel round two and move it to Saturday morning. During final round of qualifying Grimes twisted the throttle on the Akea Express drag bike and the 1,000 horsepower top fuel motor delivered a 6.393 ET at 234.66 mph run to secure the number two spot and set a new Top Fuel Harley NHRA speed record. “The track and weather conditions are ideal for making good horsepower and the Akea Express should be able to put up some strong numbers during eliminations”, commented Ray Price. Eliminations for the field of five top fuel Harleys took place late Saturday afternoon and into the evening. Round one of eliminations the team ran an impressive 6.283 ET at 232.35 mph to advance into round two. Then in round two Grimes posted a 6.281 ET at an incredible 237.80 mph to win the round. Facing Drums Brancaccia in the finals, Tommy Grimes captured the teams first win of the 2014 race season with a 6.368 ET at 233.64 mph. “I am very proud of my team’s effort this weekend. They

worked hard to get the win and its really rewarding to set a new NHRA record”, said Ray Price. 2nd Annual Sandhills Bike Blessing

By: JD Tew Folks at Freedom Biker Church in Fayetteville, NC were praying hard for the rain to either hold up or move along before they kicked off the 2nd Annual Sandhills Bike Blessing on Saturday, April 5th. The forecast was calling for rain late Friday and early Saturday morning, but it turned out (answered prayer) to be an excellent day for the Bike Blessing. This is a great event that focuses on praying for motorcyclists in Cumberland and the surrounding counties. Freedom Biker Church started the event in 2013 to simply pray for those who ride. Sr. Pastor JD Tew said, “We have approximately 8000 registered motorcyclists in Cumberland County and another 8000 in the neighboring counties. We want to pray for all those who ride, for their safety, their bike, and any other issues they have going on in their life. It’s an honor and a privilege to go to God in prayer, and even more so when you get to pray for others.” The folks at Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville would like to see the Bike Blessing grow into a statewide event and even an east coast event. They had several couples ride in from out of state and two couples who rode down from Pennsylvania. The event was scheduled from 11 am – 1 pm but folks continued to hang out until 2 pm, which says a lot about the folks at FBC. A main “Blessing” is shared at high noon for all the bikers and our military. After the main “Blessing”, the folks from FBC break out and pray for individuals and their motorcycles. It’s really something to see all those people praying over the bikes and those who ride! There were 30 vendors present for this year’s event with everything from biker jewelry to leather goods, and the crowd favorite chocolate covered strawberries, bananas & cheesecake from the Chocolate Lady! This year the folks at FBC cooked 3 pigs and sold BBQ sandwiches to raise money for their building fund. (And they need it the way they’re growing!) Freedom’s own Scott “Frosty” James kept the crowd entertained with his DJ skills and was the emcee for the event. They topped last year’s numbers with over 400 Bikes and 800+ in attendance. I’m sure next year will be even bigger and better!

American Legion Riders Annual Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Fund Raiser

By: Gypsy Rose On the weekend of April 12th, you could tell that spring was in the air by the warm weather and all the events going on. The American Legion Riders of Post 116 in Fuquay Varina, NC were glad to see the warm weather as they were putting on their Annual Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Fund Raiser. The day started with several vendors setting up and the riders with the Pony Express arriving. It wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t long before 73 bikes came rolling in to do the poker run, which was divided up into two groups. Outside of the vendors there were two live bands playing well into the night. There was a 50/50 drawing won by Karen Ter Meer and the highest hand went to Hildie. The Sons of The American Legion Riders were out there selling pizza slices and BBQ sliders for lunch and for dinner they did BBQ chicken plates with baked beans, green beans with boiled potatoes, and rolls. The most fun outside of the ride was the biker games, something everybody should see at least once in their life. The helmet toss went to Wrongway as well as the weenie bite and slow ride. By: Caroline This year, the American Legion Riders kicked off their Bike Nights on April 11th with a lot of fun. There was food and games not to mention a beautiful Friday night in the 70â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s so folks could hang around outside, or on the patio. The ALR even found a great local band, Knollwood Street to come and entertain with live music. It sure set the mood for dancing or just enjoying the end of the workweek with friends. The American Legion Riders Bike Nights are open to anyone who wants to come out and have a great time as well as helping to support our local veterans and community. They will be held on the second Friday of the month beginning at 6pm. Post 55 is located at 111 Miller Street in Winston-Salem, NC.

By Lee Simmons Saturday, April 5th, started out like any other Saturday in High Point, NC - quiet and slow-paced. That peace and quiet was shattered by a rumbling sound. That sound, you know, that wonderful sound as 60 Moose Riders rolled into town. Representing 11 different lodges from across the state of North Carolina and 1 lone rider from the great state of Texas, the High Point Moose Riders held their 2nd annual fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina. While riders began to register, old friends shook hands and new members were welcomed. After the pre-ride meeting and a prayer to The Big Man up high, the Moose Riders saddled up to put the hammer down. We were rolling down the back roads to our first stop: the Greensboro Moose Lodge 685, who welcomed the riders with open arms. After rolling the dice, eating a snack, and holding a 50/50, we headed out to our next stop: the New Garden Moose Lodge 1884, where we were entertained by our very own Tony Swain who sang the one and only Moose Rider song. Next stop: Kernersville Moose Lodge 2181, or “K Vegas” as the locals call it. We rolled the dice and came up snake eyes. Then we rode on to the Camel City Moose Lodge 466, home of the Gibby

frank and the Winston Salem Moose Riders. The riders were treated to free hot dogs with all the trimmings. The end of the line for this great ride was the High Point Moose Lodge 693, where we had more free food and the band, Arises, was there with great music, and the ladies were bringing out baked goods for the auction. Each year local business donate items to be auctioned off to help make this event a success. Special thanks to our guest speakers, Erika Adams, Community Event Intern, and Jodi Caruso, Development Coordinator Make-AWish Central and Western North Carolina - who spoke of how they grant wishes to children who have been diagnosed with a life threatening condition. The highlight of the event was a bidder who donated $80 to see Ronnie Douglas, our North Carolina Moose Rider President, parade around in a kilt on stage! This was a very successful event and we were able to raise a total of $3,000 to donate to the Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina. It was a great event for an even greater cause! A big “THANKS” goes out to the following Moose Rider groups that made this event a success: CBG, Greensboro, High Point, Kernersville, New Garden, Sanford, Siler City, Raleigh, Roxboro, Thomasville, Winston-Salem, and C2 Moose Riders of Copperas Cove, Texas.
