OW! How did it get to be November already? I am not really sure, but it is a month packed full of events and activities. Daylight Savings Time ends on the 2nd. November 4th is Election Day and it is your responsibility to vote. It is also Use Your Own Common Sense Day. What a coincidence! Christian evangelist Billy Graham will be 96 on the 7th. The Marine Corps celebrates its 239th birthday on the 10th and the 11th is Veterans Day. There will be parades to participate in and veterans to acknowledge. Be there. Do it! The 11th is also World War II General George S. Patton’s birthday. The Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation on November 15, 1777 and the Great American Smokeout Day is celebrated (?) on November 20. Thanksgiving Day is November 27th this year. The toy runs have already begun, and will be in full swing in November. Check out The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar in this issue or online at FullThrottleMagazaine.com for the most complete listing in the Carolinas. You can also scan the QR Code in the Cruisin’ Calendar with your smart phone to see events that came in after this issue went to print. Cool, huh? Be sure to check out our advertisers for your Holiday shopping needs and be sure to tell them that you saw their ad in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. If you have an upcoming charity event (not limited to toy runs), list it for FREE on line or by e-mailing it to: editor@FTCarolinas.com. There is still time to list your December events. Do it NOW! We also have deeply discounted display ads for charities and benefits. Call 336-885-5400 for details and rates. The location for the 17th Attempt, Almost a Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day Party and Oyster Roast on February 14th is Locked & Loaded in Garner, NC. We will be giving away FREE chicken wings and oysters while they last and raffling off a 51” Samsung flat screen TV and a diamond heart pendant. There will also be tons of giveaways as usual. Plan to be there for the biggest FOF party ever! Now get out there and RIDE!

Widow Maker Custom Design & Repair By: Kathy Johnson Widow Maker Customs opened in July of 2003, but the groundwork for the shop started 3 years prior. Hank Thibodeau, owner of Widow Maker Custom Design And Repair, knew what he wanted to do since he was young. Hank bought his first bike at age 19. It was an ‘82 Suzuki GS750T he got for $75. The bike was not running, but $15 later he was riding it! Hank has been turning wrenches since he was a kid and doing it as a career for 20 years. His first build that rolled out his shop was a 1979 GL1000 Honda Gold Wing called “Gold School”. He finished building that in the fall of 2002. Every bike and every customer is of the utmost importance to Hank. His first customers were Gail Shulz riding a Honda Shadow 500, and Brian Sawyer riding a ‘97 Dyna Super Glide. They are still customers to this day! Recently, as an invited builder, Hank returned from Ray Price Motor Sport Expo with a 2nd Place trophy for a Harley-Davidson XL1200C Sportster. Hank also took the ‘99 Heritage Classic that is the sleek ride adorning the cover of this issue of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. He also took a ‘07 Yamaha V Star 1000 Classic, an ‘08 Yamaha V Star 650, and his personal chop “Mushu Suzie” to the show. When asked what he thinks he will show next year Hank said, “I think we are looking at doing a bagger. Yes, I know it’s not a Widow Maker style of bike, but when it is done, you will know it’s a Widow Maker bagger”. As for his best current product it is their “force feeding” intake system. Amazing would describe it best. You see average gains of 15% -20% just by simply bolting it on. As for the price, it is the most economical custom intake you can buy. Hank has spent hours on the Dyno, tuning bikes with various engine sizes, cam grinds, and exhaust systems. The gains from the intake only get better when installed with one of their Widow Maker CDR 2 into 1 exhaust systems which give great performance, “looks”, and unmistakable sound. Lastly, each set of Widow Maker’s handlebars is made for each individual customer. They are tailored to fit each customer. They do not make cookie cutter handle bars! They are similar styles but are different and made specifically for each customer.

Asked what he feels the future of Widow Maker is Hank’s response was, “I want to see us continue to grow, but slowly. Keeping what people enjoy about us. Keeping our values in place. Continuing to have real care and concern for our family of customers. From that I can see us having a larger facility expanding our product line and doing it at a price people can afford. I see us deep into the future not just being another bike shop, but a destination.” “Lastly”, he said, “My thoughts are of what I appreciate about the business. There are always bad days and difficult customers, but at the end of it all I really appreciate all of our customers and the support that they have given us over the years. To have made it to a place where we can put ourselves on the front cover and having gone from being shop to a product is amazing. The first 10 years have been a roller coaster. I am exited to see what’s next in store for us”. Widow maker customs would also like you to know their annual charity ride will not be held this year. Hank is working on a charity bike, which is something new to them, but is a welcomed change. It is a means for them to give more and involve more people. The idea came from not being able to do their annual run. So they decided to do something bigger and better. They have been so fortunate to be able to give the money raised every year to meet the needs of children. In their minds, it is like there very own Christmas. So they thought how much better would it be if they could generate $25,000 and be able to give 5 families $5000 each. They will generate the money buy building a charity bike, selling sponsorships and then raffling it off. Helping a child in need is very personal to Hank and Anne. They truly love helping children and they feel to do it on a personal level is over the top. So stop in check them out by visiting Widow Maker Custom Design And Repair at 5582 Mt. Harmony Church Road in Rougemont, NC. With a labor rate of $45 per hour and pick up and delivery service, what more reason do you need? You can also access Hank by calling 919-618-7202 or 336-364-8535. His email address is NiteTrain74@earthlink.net and their web page is WidowMakerCDR.com. I am sure you will be glad you checked out Widow Maker Custom Design And Repair.

10th Annual Capital City Bikefest And Ray Price Motorsports Expo By: Mark Infield We have attended this event for the past 10 years and it rains about every other year, but 2014 was a dry event. Perfect weather boosted the crowd to over 125,000! Fayetteville Street with Sturgis style parking made navigating the crowd of bikes and pedestrians testy. The street was packed from the State House to the City Plaza. Even the side streets were blocked off between S. Salisbury Street and S. Wilmington Street and packed with lots of stages and vendors. The event began at the Ray Price Harley-Davidson dealership on Friday with the Patriot Ride and the Kickstart Parade. Opening Ceremonies were at 6 pm downtown followed by the Parade Of Lights. Great bands cranked out music from 3 different stages until 11pm accented by periodic firing of the 1000 HP Ray Price Akea Top Fuel Harley Drag Bike echoing off the buildings. Ray Price and Tommy Grimes autographed pictures of the fastest Harley on the planet and posed for photographs and Torch finished off the evening with his fire performance in City Plaza. Kawasaki Stunt Alley featured stunt riders and Juli Moody – The Female Human Link, who held off 4 Harleys, two on each arm, doing burnouts. The scars will be visible in the asphalt for quite some time!

The 1st Annual Raleigh Tattoofest was held in the Sheraton Hotel all three days. It boasted over 150 artists who were set up in a number of different rooms making the show very interesting to visit. This was a huge expansion over previous years when the tattoo exhibit was held at the dealership. Also new to this year’s event was the Ray Price Motorsports Expo held in the Raleigh Convention Center. Admission was free and there were bikes and bike related merchandise on display as well as demonstrations of talent and skill. The Adam Holbrook Trials Stunt Show was in one corner of the hall and The Globe of Death in another and the Keith King

BMX Stunt show in another. In the center of the hall the Expo Stage and seating area hosted a variety of entertainment ranging from singers to speed painter to pin up contest to fashion show. On Sunday, Freedom Biker Church offered services in addition to more shows from the Saturday schedule. The highlight of the day had to be the bike show awards. There were 13 invited builders: 40 CAL, Butcher Chop, Crazy Beaver Customs, Cyclone Cycles, Gangster Choppers, Garwood Custom Cycles, Holy City Designs, Ludwigsen Motor Co., KW Customs, One Time Customs, T-n-A Custom, Vindictive Wayz, and WidowMaker Custom Design & Repair plus Backyard Baggers and East Coast Baggers displaying their work. The Invited Builders Class winners are: 1st Place $4500 Rhett Holley of The Butcher Chop (1975 H-D FLH), 2nd Place - Matt Harris of 40 Cal (1955 FLE Chopper) and 3rd Place - Kenny Williams of Kenny Williams Customs (“Tantalizer” Pro Street Bagger). CHRISTMAS! By: Caroline The Veterans Helping Veterans Heal Transition House has been a project that is supported by the American Legion Riders of Post 55 as well as many other area organizations. The VHVH home is to help male veterans, that have substance abuse problems and would otherwise be homeless, to get the help they need to be self- sufficient. They go through a program that could last from one to two years that gives them the tools they need to overcome problems and get education or training so they can find jobs and a place to live. You can tell by talking to the guys there they have nothing but great things to say about the program. Some say if it were not for the opportunity they have been given in the program, they would not be able to survive. While there were some new residents that have moved in, there are others that are completing the program. These guys have found jobs and some have completed and earned college degrees. Saturday, October 11, after enjoying a short scenic ride, the American Legion Riders of Post 55 visited the facility. They were able to bring some much-needed items to the home, such as toiletries, clothes, snack foods, and coffee. As you can imagine, a place such as this always needs items like these, and depend on the community for donations. If you would like to learn more about this great initiative, you can go to their website, http://vhvh.org/ to read about some of their activities or find out about some things they need. You can also schedule a visit at their facility at 3614 North Glenn Avenue in Winston-Salem, NC.

James Vincent Concert At Clemmons Motorcycles

By: Caroline The folks at Clemmons Motorcycles have hit on a winning combination by featuring local artist, James Vincent, on Saturday, October 4. James Vincent is a very talented musician and songwriter who treated us all to a special concert of his original songs. He also shared with us how he came to write them and the life stories that inspired them. Vincent grew up in Wilkes County and was heavily influenced by his Grandfather, a biker, who took him to bike rallies, passed on a love of motorcycles and many life lessons. Now, he shares those bits of wisdom through his music and audiences all over the Piedmont. If you would like to check out Vincent’s music, check out his website: www.jamiecarrollmusic.com where you can read about him, order his music or find out where he will be playing next. Not only does James Vincent look to Clemmons Motorcycles to service his motorcycle, but you can as well. I would encourage you to go by Clemmons Motorcycles at 2636 Lewisville Clemmons Road in Clemmons, NC and see what all they have to offer. They will service your ride and have a great selection of preowned bikes, in all makes and sizes— something for every rider! I would expect that Clemmons Motorcycles will have more such events in the

future, so check out their web site at www. ClemmonsMotorcycles.com or at The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar at FullThrottleMagazine.com.

By: Mark Infield Have you ever wondered about some of the awards that businesses use in their advertising? I see them on TV all the time and being the skeptic that I am I look for the fluffy superlatives that sound great, but mean very little. Provisions or small print that have a tendency to get overlooked at first glance and tip the critical observer off that something isn’t quite right, pique my curiosity. I am not a fan of slick advertising. I want to be able to compare apples to apples without having to employ a forensic scientist, if you know what I mean. Even at that, I have been lured into a business only to find that what I thought was a real deal, really wasn’t. I bet that has happened to you, too. However, statistics will tell you a thing or two if you take the time to consider what they mean. Take, for instance, Customer Satisfaction Index or CSI. This is a number that is generated by the customer that rates their satisfaction relating to a product or service that they have purchased. You have probably participated in these types of surveys online without realizing how the facts that you volunteer are used. Harley-Davidson surveys their customers in a variety of ways. Then they use the information gained from the customers to help dealerships evaluate their performance in several areas of expertise. The CSI is a satisfaction rating by customers over an 18-month period after

the purchase. Harley-Davidson Of Greensboro was recently rated #1 out of 187 dealerships in the SE United States in customer satisfaction over the past calendar year and last quarter they were rated #2 out of 581 dealers in the nation. That’s pretty strong! Mark Wheelihan, owner of HarleyDavidson Of Greensboro, says, “We are here for the customer after the sale. Customer Service is something we have worked on for years. We don’t want to sell you one bike, we want to be your Harley dealer for life.” He said he grew up riding Harleys and did not become a dealer on “the wave”. He said he loves the motorcycle community and enjoys being a part of it. He added, “We want to thank the customers for their loyalty and appreciation of our dealership and taking the time to rate Harley-Davidson Of Greensboro so highly”. Sounds to me like it would be worth your while to motor on over to HarleyDavidson Of Greensboro at 536 Farragut Street (I-40/85 @ Randleman Rd.) in Greensboro, NC. There may be a deal waiting for you there and from the CSI you will not be disappointed if you buy from Harley-Davidson Of Greensboro.

Stars And Bars Tavern End Of Summer Bash By: Uwharrie Charlie Summer has officially come to an end and Mother Nature has announced it quite clearly. But it’s not the end of riding and partying season in Salisbury, NC by any means. To prove it, the good folks at Stars And Bars Tavern have scheduled this event as a season conclusion to the hot and humid days past this year. Also included with the event is a special ride for a special person, Ginger Whisnant Brittain. Lynn Burris, the tavern manager has some fun fund raiser ideas planned for Ginger and it seems to have gained momentum with many people that plan to attend and help out with their time or their donated items, sometimes both. The party started Friday at noon and went until Sunday afternoon with the Made Of Monuments Band taking the outdoor stage Friday evening. Campers had already begun setting up and patrons were rolling in. I could feel autumn rolling in also with it’s cool, crisp evening breeze present around the fire pit on the lower terrace by the band stage. Saturday morning came with bustling sounds of folks stirring and getting ready for the main day of events. Many of the donated items were placed on tables inside preparing for the Chinese Auction, 50/50 Draw, and baked Items for sale. Vendors were setting up out back, bikes were rolling in and Lynn and Monkey Butt were hard at work selling tickets. As noon rolled around, the call to prayer for the riders rang out for all to gather to begin the benefit ride. Wes Brady Sr. gave the kickstands-up signal and motors began to roar, as we rolled out towards Gunter’s In The Grove on Hwy. 901 just above I-40 and 77. After stopping for a breather along the way, we soon arrived at Gunter’s where many had already gathered from Rider’s Roost to participate in the event. Thanks Rick and Myra Nail, Mark Watson and Katrina Dunlap, Ron and Bette Moats, John Bedell, Michelle Petty, Tammy Maness and Holland Shoaf (check out all his Fb albums!). A lot of us caught up with old friends in the parking area while some strolled inside for a cold one and some really good wings with some watching the Marshal Tucker band setting up for the evening. It’s a great day to ride! Tim Rogers, owner of Stars And Bars Tavern gave the call to head back to the tavern so we rolled on down the highway taking a slightly different route than we came. Rolling back in to the event we saw a Ta-Ta Tent was set up (if you don’t know what that is, I’m not gonna tell you), Rodney Whisnant

had the top bid. Hot dogs and pork chop sandwiches were available outside, along with Nub’s Beer Shack, Jennifer’s Leather, Rebel Connection and Flick & Kay with various items for purchase while D K & Friends played some afternoon favorite tunes. Riders are rolling in by the dozens, but there’s plenty of room at the Stars and Bars. They have the largest gathering of folks and riders than any place I know of in Salisbury. The party went on into the night with the Bad Habit Band rocking the night. If you missed this event you missed the event of the year around here. Thanks goes out to Tim Rogers for welcoming this fundraiser to coincide with the End Of Summer Bash! Also thanks to Lynn Burris, Laura Massey, Linda Stevens, Loni Ashbey, Wayne Brown, Andrea Bridge, Donald and April Campaniello, Mary Burton, Nancy Porter, Wes Brady Sr., Crystal Nicholson, Tonia Wallace, Leigh Ann Sidelinker, others mentioned above and many more that participated and helped out in this event. While Ginger was not able to attend, she was with us in spirit! Pictures from this event may be viewed and downloaded for free at FullThrottleMagazine.com.

1st Annual North Central CBA Swap Meet And Bike Show By: Shannon Rights North Central CBA Chapter hosted their 1st Annual Swap Meet And Bike Show Saturday September 27th at Ted’s Kickin’ Chicken in WinstonSalem, NC. The day could not have been more perfect for riding and hanging out with friends. The vendors, with everything from support gear to Harley fenders, set up under a perfect Carolina blue sky. This swap meet was heavy on the old school used take off parts vibe. People showed up early on bikes then left to return in cars and trucks to haul off their loot. We are pretty sure one guy pieced together a Frankenstein bike out of the parts he left with. You can’t have a swap meet without some killer tunes and Madhouse rocked the patio with their high-energy performance. Madhouse plays everything from country to rock n’ roll with a little Prince thrown in to keep you guessing. The

crowd went wild when they broke into the Johnny Cash! The bike show offered a range of bikes to suit anyone’s preference. North Central CBA offered two plaques First Place and Runner Up. At the last minute, North Central also offered up the Most Unique bike award. This award was given to Mr. Zayden who entertained everyone riding around on his plastic motorcycle doing burnouts. Lord, help this boy when he gets a real bike, we can just imagine the tires he will burn through. He caught the eye of almost everyone at the swap meet. Forgotten Sons MC was so impressed with his burnouts they gave him a support sticker for his rear fender. The day wasn’t all fun and games though. North Central CBA circulated a petition that will be submitted to the Forsyth County Recreation and Parks Commission regarding the discrimination of bikers at Tanglewood Park. Members of the Chapter talked with people about what Concerned Bikers Association is all about. To that end, we were able to add 7 new members to the chapter during the event. Motorcycling is not a spectator sport and we need people to realize this. We are looking out for biker’s rights in North Carolina and can always use extra help. If you are interested in doing something to protect your rights as a biker, we have chapters throughout the state and we’d love to have you visit a meeting to see what we are all about. North Central CBA Chapter meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Salty Bay at 1075 N. Main Street in Walnut Cove, NC at 7pm. Come visit us if you get the chance or for more information contact us at NorthCentralCBA@gmail.com or www.CBA-ABATENC.org. Mark your calendars on the last Saturday of September 2015 when we will be hosting the 2nd Annual North Central CBA Swap Meet And Bike Show.

Keith Richner qualified #1 and then won the Super Comp class. Story and photo by Alan Dockery Beech Bend Dragway, Bowling Green, Kentucky, is one of my favorite drag strips. On the last weekend of September I joined some Carolina racers there for the American Motorcycle Racing Association’s Clay Jones Memorial Nationals. Beech Bend may be an old strip, but it holds some of the best races of all kinds. Fans sit close to the track and the seats are covered. This race draws a big crowd for a good party and great racing. Tracy Kile, Leicester, NC, qualified third in Top Fuel on the Bad Apple machine. Armon Furr, Orangeburg, SC, rode the great looking Red Rhea bike to qualify seventh in Nitro Funny Bike. Keith Richner, Moore, SC, was on the mark qualifying number one in the Super Comp 8.90 index class. Then on Sunday he powered through the field for the win. He also qualified second in Pro Gas. Glenn Sutton, Moore, SC, took the number one qualifying spot in the Pro Eliminator 10.90 index class. He made it to the semi-final round in eliminations. Rick Medford, Cherokee, NC, qualified first in the 11.50 Street Eliminator class and also competed in the 10.30 Super Pro class. Mike Motto, Jacksonville, NC, was in Outlaw Street. Ken Straus, Terrell, NC, was at Bowling Green on a V-Mod bike. Checkout www.FullThrottleMagazine.com for more photos of the Carolina racers at Bowling Green.

1st Annual End Of Summer Blow Out

By: Mark (Stretch) Carlyle Photos by: Alice (Smiley) Harvey September 27th was one beautiful day in the Lake Norman area. With 80º weather, babes, bikes, beers, Bar B Que, and bands! What more could you ask for? Twin Oaks Bar and Grill pulled out all stops for this 1st Annual End Of Summer Blow Out. Russell and the staff out did themselves with everything that took place! We started the day around 2pm with the bike show registrations in 3 classes, Antique, Stock, and Custom. At 3:30 the band Southern Spirit took the stage on the deck out back. They cranked out cover tunes from ZZ Top to Stevie Ray Vaughn. I also had a surprise call from the band Anarchy Slate from Florida. They had heard about us raising money for the Shriners Children’s Hospital and wanted to do a guest appearance. When Will, the drum-

mer, showed up he handed me an acoustic guitar signed by the band. He looked around and asked all the bands to sign it. We then auctioned it off starting the bidding out at $100. It went back and forth for a while until Eric Hudson gave up $325 as the winning bid. That wasn’t all we auctioned off, either. Next it was the wet Tee shirt contest with 7 entries. We did it a little different than most. I auctioned off the water to be poured on the ladies. Raising over $300 for the Shriners Hospital! It went well. Needless to say we ended up with 3 contestants in the finals and me armed with a water hose!! Then the shirts came off and the donations rose to a new level. LOL! To end the night The Joe Davis Band ROCKED the patio at Twin Oaks. Joe and the boys know how to light it up at bike events around the Carolinas! The Joe Davis Band is simply awesome and did the show justice, not to mention the ear shattering guitars that Joe brought out that night! My hat goes off to Russell Craig and his staff for putting on one of the best parties Denver, NC has ever seen. After all was said and done, Russell, Twin Oaks Bar and Grill and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine helped raise over $2300 for the Shriners Hospital! JOB WELL DONE TWIN OAKS! If you’re out riding in the Lake Norman area, Twin Oaks, located at 5242 Slanting Bridge Rd, Denver, NC 28037, (704) 483-9034 is a great place for cold beer, good food, and great friends! Cheers to ya Twin Oaks, GREAT JOB! P.S. Thank goes out to our dear friends Debbie and Smiley for your help!

Tilley Harley-Davidson Biker, Blues, & BBQ Rally By: WildThing What could be better than riding your motorcycle on a sunny day, enjoying a good band, savoring varying styles of BBQ, and cold beverages? Then Tilley HarleyDavidson Biker Blues BBQ Rally in Salisbury was the place for you. On Friday, September 19th, 64 teams of BBQ enthusiasts rolled into the back lot at Tilley’s and set up their grills and began the allnight grilling. I’ll bet the aroma was delightful. Friday evening music was provided by Right Turn Clyde and we were told that a good crowd of BBQ lovers hung out on the nice fall evening enjoying the music. We rolled into the dealership on Saturday and it was packed! There was offsite parking and a shuttle trolley. Vendors and the stage commandeered the whole front lot and the bikes had to squeeze in wherever they could. We headed to the H.O.G. room to sample some of the BBQ and the member volunteers were just cleaning up. Thirty-four of the cookers turned in BBQ for the sampling in competition for the Peoples’ Choice. We were given a huge plate to ‘sample’. It was scrumptious! I wouldn’t have been able to choose if I had been early enough to vote. The poker run on Saturday morning had about 34 bikes participating. It was sponsored by McGrath Motorcycle Law Group and led by Jim Cannon. They enjoyed a nice ride out through the country and raised $600 for the Salisbury VA Hospice Unit. At the awards ceremony, Jim recognized Jeff Metcalf as the poker run winner with a king high straight and Lisa Metcalf with the worst hand, Jack high. Both received gift certificates to Tilley Harley-Davidson. We spent the afternoon strolling around the dealership, visiting with friends and vendors. There were lots of families there, as well as bikers and the store was doing a bang-up business. Everyone was hanging out enjoying the festivities until it got time for the awards ceremony. Anyone who has ever organized an event recognizes that Gary Moss deserves a tip of the hat for the great job he has done the past four years to produce Biker Blues and BBQ. This competition is the NC State Championship BBQ cook-off

and is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. The awards started off with a very nice traditional performance of our national anthem by Neil Wilkerson. In a tribute to Don Tilley, the Rowan County Veteran’s Honor Guard marched in and placed an American and a POW/MIA flag in standards in front of the stage. Army National Guard members marched to center stage unfolded an American Flag and ceremoniously refolded it while a bagpiper standing off to the back of the stage area, played Amazing Grace. The Guardsmen presented the perfectly folded flag to Don’s son, Derek Tilley. Then the Rowan Honor Guard retrieved the flags and a Guardsman played Taps. It was a very moving memorial. Next on the agenda was awarding the raffle prizes. Tickets had been sold all weekend and folks were drooling over the prizes. They had three truck toolboxes, a ladder rack for a truck, Ingersoll Rand sponsored an impact wrench, and Budweiser sponsored a beach umbrella and Michelob Ultra cooler. Tilley HD gave away a $500 gift certificate and Charlie Barber BBQ gave away a Big Green Egg grill. Don and Debby Harwell, The KCBS representatives, came on stage to award the plaques and trophies. The Peoples’ Choice, decided by the attendees that paid $10 to sample the BBQ offerings, was won by Pickin’ Porkers who received a trophy and cash award. In the state competition there were four categories: chicken, pork, ribs, and brisket. There were ten awards, plaques for five, then trophies for the top five and cash to the winner in each class and then an overall winner. The Grand Champion was Checkered Pig and the Reserve Champion was Redneck Scientific and prize money totaled $15,000. But, that’s not all, The Main Event Band took to the stage and began rocking’ out the tunes as the attendees drifted back to shop the vendors, or just have a cold one and enjoy the music. It was a great day and a huge thanks goes out to Gary Moss, Salisbury H.O.G. and the staff at Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury who all worked so hard to put on a great rally. I, for one, hope they do it again next year and I will be sure to get there early, cause I sure do love BBQ!

Planning A Toy Run? Don’t Forget To ADVERTISE

By: Rose and Lloyd A few months ago the biker community lost a friend and brother, Ronnie Daniels, to Mesothelioma Cancer. On September 27th, his friends and biker family came together for a poker run in his honor. The ride was sponsored by The Moose Lodge in Thomasville, NC and Jamie Burkhart, who had many friends and family to help organize including Barry and Mama Kris from JR’s Tavern. The ride began at The Moose Lodge, heading to R’Los in Thomasville, The VFW post in Archdale, and then to JR’s Tavern. It was a great ride with many friends and brothers participating. There was a 50/50, raffle, and auction, with great donations from Budweiser, gift baskets from Amish Trading Post, sun glasses and a night’s stay at Barry’s Walnut Island, just to name a few. A special “Thank You” to Dutch, Charlie Cooper, Melissa Thomas, Donna Burkhart, and Liz Kennedy for their help cooking, serving, and making sure this event was a success. This is the first of hopefully many memorable rides for a man we all loved and miss dearly. All proceeds will go to The Mesothelioma Research Center. Special thanks to all that came out in honor of RD, we laughed and remembered many great times we had with him. He is and will forever be missed.

The Sue Pariseau Memorial Run 2014

By: Everette “EZ” Short On Saturday September 20th our local celebrities from the Grand Strand mounted their steel horses for another great yearly ride on the Sue Pariseau Memorial Run. Around noonish, kickstands went up at Patty’s Bar in Surfside to celebrate with Sue, who was only with us for a short time, but touched the lives of everyone around her. Our local cause was to raise money for the Hearing Impaired to help little Corbin with his Cochlear Implant surgery. While at Patty’s Bar, we got to spend a little time with Corbin, an amazing little boy who just celebrated his birthday with his first Cochlear implant functioning. Keep in mind that this beautiful child has been deaf from birth and the sound of everyone angling over him for photos was a little much. He is so adorable, with the most wonderful smile and he is an inspiration to all of us. Out on the road, Patty herself, who has just gotten through open-heart surgery, led the pack up Kings Highway to The City Line Saloon, where more of newest and oldest best friends had gathered as well. JC Childers and his gorgeous band of mixologists, like the leathered up effervescence of Tony and the bubbling beauty of Mo Mo, served up laughs, stories, and tearful hugs. Then it was off to the newly reopened Barnacle Bill’s Rum and Raw Bar just across from Myrtle’s new Zip Line. This is across from the previous site of the demolished Pavilion that will never be forgotten by anyone who had their parents and grandparents take them there as a child, so if you were ever there, then you know right where that is. Guage always has a big smile and why shouldn’t he with the best “New Old Sckool Biker Bar” on the beach with some of the best barkeeps like Carolyn and Holly slinging drinks to brighten your day? After a lot of loud and lascivious behavior that drew a brigade of attention when we invaded the Zip Line grassy knoll, parked, and drank beer almost in the street, we hopped over to Dog House Donny’s Saloon for a bit of reminiscence at the wishing well dedicated to Sue. Don “The Dogfather” rolled with us on this ride and there wasn’t a dry eye in the lot when we toasted Sue with a shot and a teary story of her legend, be-

fore rolling out to Hollywood’s Bar & Grill for some food and bowling madness with some great people who cannot bowl worth a crap on that machine. There was alcohol involved, so, if you made it to the machine, and bowled with a hot dog and a drink in your hand, then you won. Then, it was back to Patty’s Bar for prizes, some tomfoolery, and a lot of just good stuff that you would have to have been there to understand. Although Sue left us in 2008, she was definitely on the run and if you’ve been to Dog House Donny’s Saloon, then I am sure your forehead has met the wishing well many times as you round that OPEN 7 DAYS! bend. With all the Mon 4-10p love I have, I’ve Tues-Sat 12p-? got to say that y’all Sun 1-10p? are some of the Grill Open prettiest peoples on All Week this planet. 2nd Annual Ride To Remember By: Joseph Burkett On September 20th Summerfield First Baptist Church hosted the 2nd Annual Ride To Remember. It was a ride that had virtually everything needed to make it a success – a great cause, perfect weather, dedicated ride organizers, and a generous group of business sponsors. Once you add 123 motorcycles of varying makes and models, more than 150 enthusiastic participants, and a scenic, nearly 100-mile route escorted by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department, you have truly created a Ride To Remember. The Ride To Remember team put on their second annual motorcycle charity ride benefiting the Western Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association (WCCAA) on Saturday, September 20. The event exceeded goals and more than doubled the amount of donations generated by the 2013 ride. All proceeds from the event, which this year totaled $9,314, are used by the WCCAA to support local families in need of services and to enhance the quality of life for all family members involved. “We were overwhelmed by the response from the riders who participated in the event and by the financial contributions

made by local business sponsors,” said Charlotte Stoll, who led the planning efforts for the event. “Our goal was to double the donation total from last year, which we did, and thanks to great weather and the generosity of sponsors, riders and our planning committee, the event exceeded expectations in every way. The ride volunteers made it all happen.” Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the US and there are currently five million individuals living with the disease in this country. Since its founding in 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association has invested more than $279 million in advancing research for a cure. Local events such as the Ride To Remember are critical to this support. This year’s ride participants were treated to a beautiful route that ran through rural Guilford and Alamance Counties. It was a meandering and comfortable ride with a significant lineup of bikes that were efficiently escorted by a talented team of motorcycle police from Guilford County. According to ride participant Greg Sanders, who rode a BMW 1200 in the event, the fact that this was an escorted ride made it a very memorable experience. “The ride was not only for a good cause, it was a blast,” he said. “Being escorted by several Sheriff’s Department motorcycle policemen made the 100 miles go swiftly, smoothly and safely. Plus, the chance to meet and talk with new biking friends during the day was a true highlight. ” The route began and ended at the First Baptist Church in Summerfield, which generously provided the use of its facilities for the event. Ms. Stoll made a special point of thanking Reverend Richard Odom, his staff, and his volunteer team, for all of their support. “Our thanks go to everyone who helped support this event,” she concluded. “Participants, sponsors, and organizers alike are generous supporters of this event because they want to do something of value to support local families while also helping in the effort to find a cure for this disease. We are very pleased with the outcome of this year’s event, and already look forward to 2015.”

By: Meredith Wisniewski I attended the 5 day long Fall Bike Week at Beach House Harley-Davidson of Shallotte on Saturday, October 4th. Let me tell you what, unless you’re about to purchase one of the 2015 bikes you missed out. They had the 2015 demo bikes there trailered all the way from the Harley Davidson headquarters out of Milwaukie. A few lucky riders even got to test ride these bikes out on the open road. There were food trucks, plenty of leather for sale, a pinstripping expert, and even a sign for a “free boob exam” which fits perfectly in the month of October. Beach House H-D had their front doors wide open to showcase all their bikes and apparel with a friendly staff to boot. I met some great riders there and got to check out some perrrdy bikes and trikes. Beach House H-D had it going on. If you’re looking to get on a new 2015 Harley-Davidson and become a part of the Harley-Davidson family, stop in at Beach House Harley-Davidson, 4919 Ocean Hwy W. (US 17) in Shallotte, NC (28470) or call 910-575-9997 and see what they have to offer you. Check them out on the web at: www.BeachHouseHD.com.

Southern Fried Cycle Show

By: Patrick Lee The Charleston area got to experience the first ever Southern Fried Cycle Show. Jake Silver began putting his vision into action in February of this year. Charleston has a large number of motorcycle shops, rides, and events. With so many styles and subcultures of riders in the area, the chopper culture really didn’t have an identity. Jake wanted to get everyone together and build the community. The Southern Fried Cycle Show had a great turnout, especially for being a first time event. Riders came from as far away as GA, NC, VA, and a couple folks from WI. The backdrop of the Ashley River was perfectly scenic for the event. The sponsor list included Jason’ Garage, Chop Cult, Vanguard Machine & Tool, Biltwell, Lowcountry Harley-Davidson and quite a few more. Vendor space was free and included a few swap meet vendors as well as Blu Gorilla Tattoo and Pepper Shade Tattoo. Camping space was available on a first come, first serve basis. Since the event was held behind a local brewery, Freehouse Brewery made sure everyone stayed hydrated (I recommend the Battery Brown Ale!) along with a baja burrito food truck to keep everyone fed. Josh Roberts and the Hinges provided some tunes.

The event featured a best in show award, furthest rider, and a slow ride contest (on gravel). Jake and his crew did an excellent job and this event needs to become an annual mainstay of the Charleston area.

8th Annual Camp Clearwater Chapel Ride By: Trisha Beasley White Lake, NC was the place to be on September 20th, 2014. Camp Clearwater Chapel hosted their 8th Annual Christmas gifts For The Kids Run. The annual event, which is normally on the second Saturday in September, was a success! The proceeds from this ride go towards Christmas gifts for Bladen County Foster Children. The Camp Clearwater Chapel has also sponsored charity work such as ramps for the disabled, food for the needy, as well as funds needed for impoverished students in area schools. These are just a few of the great causes that they work so hard to achieve! Their hard work for this year, well it certainly paid off! The day began with a sweet smell of Bar B Qued pork around the campground. The aroma filled the air as riders came in “Loud and Proud” to take part in a day of riding and charity. Mr. Donnie Weaver officiated the commencement of the day’s events. The crowd joined in unison for the opening prayer; prayers of declaration and giving thanks for charity, fellowship, love, and protection. As everyone is reminiscent of the teaching “Support the weak, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” ACTS 20:35 KJV. Kickstands were up and the ride was on! From one lake to another, motorcycles were on the road and headed through Bladen County towards the nearby neighboring County of Columbus to Lake Waccamaw. The scenic ride was beautiful! The roar and rumbling of motorcycles seemed to resonate across the lake. The sounds of each tailpipe, the wisp of each curve, and the awe-inspiring feeling of humility, perfectly paired with a sense of pride and thanksgiving. In the words of Goldilocks, the sound, the overwhelming sound,

of each biker, streaming in perfect harmony fine-tuned as a symphony orchestra was “Just Right!” Upon returning to Camp Clearwater, the bikers enjoyed an awesome meal followed by fellowship, an auction and door prizes for each participant. Acknowledgments and thanks were given to local area businesses that sponsored auction items and door prizes. The campground is notorious for their work with this and other charities in the area. The end of the day brought many pictures, smiles, memories, and lots of Christmas gifts! As the day was wrapping up announcements were made about other upcoming charity rides in the area. All bikers pledged their attendance for the next year’s annual ride. Everyone is in hopes that next year will bring even more biker friends!

Smokin’ Harley-Davidson Swap Meet By: Caroline This fall weather makes me think of festivals, fairs, and of course swap meets. For the second year in a row, Smokin’ Harley -Davidson took the opportunity to have one on Saturday, October 11. They invited folks from all over to come out and set up to sell their new or used motorcycle items. I have to say there was a good selection of just about everything you could imagine that has to do with riding from parts to books, or riding wear to windshields, seats, wheels, and an impressive selection chrome. Not to be outdone, Smokin’ even got in on the fun. They set up a great selection of parts and MotorClothes, new, mind you, but drastically reduced in price. So, if you are into re-styling your ride, this was the place to be. Smokin’ Harley-Davidson has a lot more events planned for this fall and don’t forget the holidays are coming up. The fine folks here will help you get your shopping completed with just the right gift. Be sure to check them out at 3441 Myer

8th Annual Ride For The Cure By: Addie Best There were bikers with a cause riding through Eastern North Carolina on Saturday, October 11th. Over 160 motorcyclists participated in the 8th Annual Ride For The Cure, a breast cancer benefit ride hosted by Eastern Radiologists. The organization has offices in Greenville, Washington, and Kinston, where the riders made stops on their 100-mile journey. They also made a stop in Winterville at Hometown Harley-Davidson. The Greenville location had free breast screenings by appointment as well as door prizes, food, raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and a live remote with WRNS 95.1 FM. There was also live music provided by Mace N Dixon as the riders returned. When the riders all come out in the procession it is an awesome sight. There were even spectators across the street sitting out waiting to experience the sight and sounds of all the motorcycle riders heading out. Ride For The Cure is held to raise money for early detection programs, breast cancer screenings and support for patients during treatment with the money going to Pitt, Beaufort, and 1335 National Hwy. Lenoir counties. “It’s Breast Thomasville, NC Cancer Awareness Month and we want to shed light on trying to prevent the disease,” Dr. John Herlong said. “It’s important for women 40 and older to come in for mammograms annually, which saves lives.” At the Kinston www. .com Eastern Radiologists location, staff members had food and drinks for the motorcyclists who

came for a period of rest. Receptionist, Leytricia Harris said she supported the event for the cause and its effect toward those close to her.
“I’ve had family and friends who have dealt with breast cancer,” Harris said. “I didn’t volunteer just because I work here, it’s all for a great cause.” Greenville resident George Hayward said he has had family members who have dealt with cancer, including his wife. He said he liked the turnout of the event and number of motorcycles on the road.
“We might have around 150 riders (this year),” Hayward said. “It’s all for a good cause.” For New Bern resident Mark Suhrie, he said the event was emotional because of the loss of his wife’s friend, Barbara Crawford, last year. “She passed away from leukemia last year and I was one of the pallbearers at her funeral,” Suhrie said. “Since then, I’ve supported and participated in every cancer awareness event that I could.” Bath resident Harold Davis had a little color added in his ride with his wife, Patsy, spray-painting his beard pink for the occasion. Patsy had her husband spray-paint her hair pink as well. “When we ride by, people can see the pink and it’s another way for folks to identify the cause for the event,” she said. Harold Davis said he was glad to be a part of the event. “I’ve lost family to cancer, so anything I can do to help raise awareness, I will,” he said. Tanya Dixon, site manager for the Washington location and who headed up the event, said this ride had the largest number of riders yet. She expressed her deep appreciation to the bikers who participate. “Many times bikers carry a “tough” persona, but I must say the people I have met throughout this event are the most caring, compassionate, kind people I have ever met,” Dixon said. “On behalf of myself and the staff of Eastern Radiologists, we thank you tremendously for you support through the years and we look forward to seeing you next year!” Junious Smith III with the Kinston Free Press contributed to this article.

Save The Twins Charity Ride By: Mark Steven Armed Forces Motorcycle Club along with Ray Price Triumph of Fayetteville, Hooters, Holiday Express, The Chop Shop, and 22 Klicks, conducted the Save The Twins Charity Ride for cancer research on Saturday the 4th of October in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This was the 3rd time this event has been held, first time under this new name. This event drew in riders from all walks of life for this great cause. Heck at $10 a hand, and they give you a very nice pink ribbon pin, who could not enjoy your time spent with all the pretty ladies. Due to the great turn out and donations, over $3000 was raised for Demanding The Cure charity. Everyone enjoyed great food, drink, and one heck of a time. All the while everyone was basking in the beautiful weather that day. With the ride starting at Hooters of Fayetteville (which will be adding a Hooters girls bikini bike wash and picture opportunity for this event next year), the ride followed on to more local establishments to finally finish in the 22 Klicks parking lot. The rider that came in at 22 Klicks with the winning hand received a 2-night stay in Myrtle Beach thanks to Holiday Express of Hope Mills. The low hand received a 2-night stay in the Fayetteville area from them as well. Many other prizes and gifts were given away to all that came out to help. The generosity was so great that the winner of the 50/50 raffle donated the $255 that he won, to the charity. This theme of giving back to give as much as possible to the charity, follows the great example set by the winner of the first run. They donated back the limited edition framed print from Z’s framing. It brought in an extra $400 for the charity that year. That example seems to have stuck, with winners on the following rides giving back prizes to be auctioned for more monies going to the charity. Following the MC giving out of all the prizes, Avery Hurt, Prophecy, and Chris Scroggins, each

played on into the night donating their time to help raise more money for cancer research. Next year on the first Saturday of October, many people may be heading down to Myrtle Beach to deal with the crowds, traffic, and people not wishing for a bike week to be there. I, on the other hand, know I’ll be up in Fayetteville enjoying a great time riding in the Save The Twins Charity Ride, instead. You can’t beat great drinks, food, and people having a great time on an incredible North Carolina Saturday afternoon!

8th Annual Vietnam Veterans Memorial Run By: Joel Roberson Sept 27th 2014, with a beautiful day and temps in the low 80s approximately 500 motorcycles showed up at New River Harley-Davidson for the 8th Annual Vietnam Veterans Memorial Run. The plans to build the Vietnam Veterans Memorial began back in 1998 with Lawrence Fitzpatrick and the help of Patricia and Leroy Walker. The total cost of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial came to 3.7 million dollars. With this being the 8th annual run it was a celebration of appreciation and no charge to the riders. The Memorial is now paid for and now maintained by Camp Lejeune. Jacksonville and Onslow County both donated 1 million dollars, and $80,000 was raised from bike runs alone. The site was given to Camp Lejeune in June 2009 with the final phase completed May 30th 2014. The walls at this site have all the names of 58,229 veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice to their country engraved in the clear glass. When I asked a Vietnam Veteran his thoughts on this memorial he liked the glass. He said, “I can see through it, and what I can see on the other side is hope”. The memorial consists of a reflecting pool/fountain covered by a gazebo. At night lights in the water fall that consist of 5 colors, each representing one branch of service, Each column that supports the dome repre-

sents a specific conflict in the Vietnam War. On the outside of the dome engraved in stone are the lyrics to “Taps”, which was the one thing that each person on the wall had in common. Sixteen years later, Lawrence Fitzpatrick and Patricia and Leroy Walker can now say that this site is complete. Special thanks to them and all of the loyal riders that attend year after year. You can learn more about the Onslow County Vietnam Veterans Memorial at OnslowVietnamMemorial.com.

Ridin’ Hawg Wild

By: dpapabear Saturday, Sept 20th, Ridin’ Hawg Wild held their 6th Annual motorcycle ride and poker run in support of “Autism Speaks”. This year’s event kicked off from Ted’s Famous Chicken in Winston-Salem, NC with registration from 9-11, with the ride running from Winston-Salem down some scenic country roads to Badin Lake and then back around the Rowan County side of High Rock Lake and back across Tuckertown Lake ending up at the Top Of The Rock located waterfront on High Rock Lake. Stops along the ride included Allied Veterans Post 17 AKA Suggs Little Bar, Spider’s Place, and Tamarac Marina. Suggs Little Bar provided the riders with sausage biscuits, ham biscuits, several other tasty goodies, and sweets while Judy at Spider’s Place provided us with refreshments also. We especially want to thank each of them for their support! Upon arriving at the Top Of The Rock, we were treated with chicken or beef vegetable soup, donuts and several other sweet treats, and then 3 different bands playing music up until around 7pm. Thanks to Diane for her support and be sure to drop by Top Of The Rock for other events as well. The ride had the usual poker hands, 50/50 drawing, a silent auction and door prizes at each stop along the way. Around 4:00, the 50/50 winner was drawn and thanks to winner, Randy (Stempe), who won $140 and donated part of it back, and the winners of the poker hands totaling $150 also donated part or all of their winnings back to the ride.

51

Mother nature provided us with a great day for riding and some pretty scenic country roads and the ride captain (Rusty) and all the helpers/road blockers kept us safe, led us at a reasonable speed allowing the riders to view and enjoy the country side. GREAT JOB to all! It was really a great day with great fellowship, all for a worthy cause! Watch for next year’s event and come join in. Again, THANKS to everyone. Ride often. Ride safe. Have fun and always enjoy the journey!

By: Rose and Lloyd American Legion Riders of Post #87 in High Point sponsored their 1st Annual Legacy Ride on September 20th. Each American Legion that has Legion Riders does the Legacy Ride. The proceeds are used solely to provide and ensure higher education is possible for children that have lost a parent in the line of duty since the Terrorist Attack on September 11, 2001. Over the years this event has raised over $500,000 to help these families. A beautiful day for a ride provided a huge turn out. The first stop was American Legion Post #55 in Winston-Salem, then a nice ride over to Double D Burnout Saloon. After a great reception at both we headed to Legion Post #53 in Greensboro, for more fun and laughs. Arriving back at Post #87 in High Point, we spent the afternoon with music from DJ Ron Neely and tons of fun in the dunkin’ booth. Many thanks to those that volunteered to get wet. There was a 50/50, and a raffle for some great prizes. A very special “Thank You” to the manager Ernie Thalasinos and regional manager Pat Murphy of Sheetz on S. Main Street in High Point for proving all the food, Triad Engraving and Printing for donation of the grill we raffled. Thanks to Wayne Hill, Piedmont Peterbuilt, for all their donations. The grille was raffled after months of selling tickets and congratulations to Belinda Church who won it. Again many thanks to all that came and participated making this day a huge success. The day turned out great. Everyone enjoyed the ride, fun, and entertainment. There was lots of fellowship, dining, and lots of happy faces, knowing we were doing our part to ensure these children get the education that they desire. Keep your eyes on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for more fun events, and of course The 2nd Annual Legacy Ride next year.

Feeding The Passion

By: WildThing It is nice to be appreciated, isn’t it? Well, that is what Mark Wheelihan, owner of Greensboro Harley-Davidson thinks, too. The result was an evening get-together, an Appreciation Night, for the members of Triad Harley Owners Group and the Triad Bad Lasses. The festivities were planned for the evening of October 15 and dealership and staff welcomed the members after usual closing hours for this special occasion. The store was decorated for Halloween and they had provided a real nice spread of wrap sandwiches, cheese, crackers, grapes, a real tangy pasta salad, and cookies and desserts. There was chilled wine and beer as well as soft drinks for everyone to enjoy. There is nothing like food and drinks to attract a crowd. The shelves and racks were loaded with fall riding apparel, chrome accessories, parts, and everything Harley. The biggest attraction was the shiny 2015 models that graced the showroom floor. The sales associates were on hand to answer any questions, help you choose your new ride, or accessorize your current one. It appears Harley’s new “Boom!”TM Box Infotainment System has captured the imagination of many enthusiasts with its variety of features. Imagine all this in the cozy atmosphere of a members’ only evening. It happens every fall in Harley World, our passion for riding is fed with examining of the new models, the latest MotorClothes©, and the newest coordinated chrome accessories. And don’t forget the service department. Can the mechanics make my ride go faster? Sure they can, if you can say “Screaming Eagle Performance”! Thanks, Mark, for your hospitality. My advice for Harley-

Davidson enthusiasts is to get on over to 538 Farragut Street in Greensboro, NC and check out what they have to offer. You don’t have to wait for a special invitation! And be sure and mention that you read about them in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

By: Caroline It doesn’t seem like it has been 2 years since Mike Burroughs left his family and friends way too soon. Mike was a respected and loved member of the community, whether it was with his co-workers at the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department, helping with the BSA Explorer group, or being with his beloved wife, Cathy, his sons or his grandchildren. Mike was also a very active member of the Sons of the American Legion and served the American Legion Riders at Post 55 as Chaplain, “Reverend Homey” for 7 years. On September 20th the American Legion Riders of Post 55 honored the memory of their brother in a memorial ride. The ALR was able to make a donation of $240 to the BSA Venture Crew, a scouting initiative that Mike was involved with. They met the family at the gravesite, where, lots of stories and memories were shared amid laughter and tears. I am sure there is not an ALR event that goes by where Mike’s presence isn’t felt by all. We will all miss him but more importantly, we will remember the integrity, passion, thoughtfulness, and humor that Mike brought to everything he touched.

Open House At Smokin’ Harley-Davidson By: Caroline Saturday, September 20th, was the day you could come by and check out the new 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycles and there were plenty of folks there to see them! The deals were going hot and heavy, with folks coming out with new bikes all day long. The staff at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson was doing everything possible to make sure that you were completely satisfied. Manager, Ray Perry, even led some test rides. Now that is providing customer satisfaction! Many of the new bikes came with special package offers to customize your ride to your satisfaction or get you decked out with some great MotorClothes. For those of us who just wanted to take in the festive atmosphere, the Winston-Salem HOG chapter was selling an excellent barbeque plate. I arrived just in time for lunch and was able to relax and eat while watching all the excitement and checking out some of the vendors on hand. While there were a lot of deals and sales made. I’m sure that if you stop by Smokin’ Harley-Davidson at 3441 Myer Lee Drive in Winston-Salem, NC you will find some awesome new Harleys and don’t forget the pre-owned ones. Don’t forget, the holidays are fast approaching, so make plans to stop by or check them out on Facebook and at www. SmokinHarley.com.

At The Rock - AMRA Jim McClure Nitro Nationals Story and photo by Alan Dockery The Rock was thundering from the sound of Hotrod Harleys the second weekend of October for the American Motorcycle Racing Association Jim McClure Nitro Nationals. Unfortunately, at Rockingham Dragway there was some thunder from the skies, too. It rained for a short while late afternoon Saturday and then Sunday it was too wet to race. But for y’all at The Rock Saturday it was a sunny afternoon of watching Harley race bikes rip down the strip. Besides lots of racers, there was a pretty good group of vendors and exhibitors to check out. An AMRA drag race offers more than just watching Harley racers making six second, 200+ mile per hour passes. There’s walking the pits to see those awesome machines, hanging at the campsite and enjoying time with friends you only see at the track. After we took a short rain break nap, there was a wedding over at Donnie Huffman’s pits. Sam “Dead Bear” Mashini and Chanel Cerqueira were married at The Rock Saturday evening. Congratulations and good luck to both of you. Everyone enjoyed the ceremony, music, singing, dancing, and great food. And yes folks, the band PeacePipe was on stage Saturday night to rock the partiers. Even though they didn’t get to race, I’ll run down who was there to put on a show for y’all and how they did in qualifying. Like I tell y’all, come for the weekend because qualifying is usually a great show and you get to see everyone run. Fans were even treated to some passes by National Hot Rod Association stars, Matt and Angie Smith, Michael Ray and Chaz Kennedy at The Rock. In Top Fuel Tommy Grimes, Winston-Salem, NC, qualified the Ray Price Motorsports/Akea machine number one with a 6.330 second pass at 223.21 MPH. Armon Furr, Orangeburg, SC, qualified in Nitro Funny Bike. The Pro Fuel class saw Dale Nilles, Charlotte, NC, and Janette Thornley, Mocksville, NC, ready to race. Dale is probably going to finish second in AMRA national points. Dickie Johnson, Aynor, SC, was in the Modified class. Keith Richner, Moore, SC, qualified second in the quickest index class, Super Comp, where racers try for an 8.90 second pass. He has kept that good looking race bike running strong

all season and will be this year’s National Champion in Super Comp. Keith will also finish well in the Pro Gas class. Ken Strauss, Terrell, NC, qualified in Super Comp and the VMod class. In the 1250 heads up class, Glen Sutton, Moore, SC, was ready to race. Greg Best, Raleigh, NC, qualified that old Shovelhead number one with a 9.912 in the Super Gas 9.90 class. Chris Wood, Goldsboro, NC, was sixth with a 9.983. In Super Pro 10.30 index we saw Scot Wood, Goldsboro, NC, and Rick Medford, Cherokee, NC, in the field. There were 29 riders in Pro Eliminator 10.90 including Lane Boger, Sr., Greensboro, NC; Daniel Wilkinson, Sanford, NC; Steve Brumfield, Stantonsburg, NC; Don Meeher, Goldsboro, NC; Glen Sutton, Moore, SC and Erik Harley, Rock Hill, SC. In Street Eliminator 11.50, 21 racers made qualifying runs including Travis Ellis, Summerville, NC; Lane Boger, Jr., Concord, NC; Mike Best, Cary, NC; Todd Dillon, Wilmington, NC; Don Meeher, Rick Medford, and Erik Harley. Licia Danford, Akron, OH, took The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine big check for $150 when she qualified number one in the Eliminator class with a 0.001 reaction time. Mike Trull, Sanford, NC; Rick Miller, Jefferson, NC; Ben Williams, Wilson, NC; Vic Allen, Southern Pines, NC; Barry Walsh, Elgin, NC; Erik Harley, Chris Wood, Travis Ellis, Don Meeher, Glen Sutton, Daniel Wilkinson, Scot Wood, and Steve Brumfield also qualified in Eliminator. It looks like spring and fall races at Rockingham Dragway are on for next year. Keep reading The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for details and race dates. Spokes & Jokes

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!

Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties and had never been married. She was admired for sweetness and kindness to all. One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea. As he sat facing her old pump organ, the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water. In the water floated, of all things, a condom! When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist. “Miss Beatrice”, he said, “I wonder if you would tell me about this?” pointing to the bowl. “Oh, yes” she replied, “isn’t it wonderful? I was walking through the park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven’t had the flu all winter!”

is the Fire Department, lady,” the voice replied. “I’ll have to transfer you to the Police Department.” “No, it’s YOU I want!” she yelled. “They need a longer ladder!” “I’m not going to cite you,” said the officer. “I just wanted to warn you that the reflector on the back of your buggy is broken and it could be dangerous.” “I thank thee,” replied the Amish lady. “I shall have my husband repair it as soon as I return home.” “Also,” said the officer, “I noticed one of your reins to your horse is wrapped around his testicles. Some people might consider this cruelty to animals so you should have your husband check that too.” “Again, I thank thee. I shall have my husband check this when I get home. True to her word, when the Amish lady got home, she told her husband about the broken reflector. He said he would put a new one on immediately. “Also,” said the Amish woman, “the policeman said there was something wrong with the emergency brake.”

doubt it, but I’ll email her, just to be sure.” So he sat down and wrote an email: Dear Mama, I’m not saying that you “did” take the sugar bowl from my house; I’m not saying that you “did not” take it. But the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Your Loving Son, Anthony. Several days later, Anthony received a response email from his Mama, which read: Dear son, I’m not saying that you “do” sleep with Maria, and I’m not saying that you “do not” sleep with her. But the fact remains that if she were sleeping in her OWN bed, she would have found the sugar bowl by now. Your Loving Mama.

Expectant mom to doctor: “I’m two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?” Doctor: “With any luck, right after he finishes college.”

I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing ‘fairly well’ for my age. I will be sixty-eight before too long. A little concerned about that comment, I couldn’t resist asking him, “Do you think I’ll live to be 80?” The doctor asked, “Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine, or hard liquor?” “Oh no,” I replied. “I’m not doing drugs, either!” Then he asked, “Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?” “I said, not much. My former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!” “Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?” “No, I don’t,” I said. He asked, “Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lots of sex?” “No,” I said. He looked at me and said, “Then why do you even give a $hit?” “Hello 9-11! Help! Send someone over quickly!” the old woman screamed into the phone. “Two naked bikers are climbing up toward my bedroom window!” “This

A biker was riding on a country road when he collided with a little bird. The biker was ok, but the bird was lying in the road and looked dead. He was soft hearted, so he picked up the bird and took him to a vet. The vet said nothing was wrong with the bird, just knocked out. So the biker went home, built a coop to put the bird in, and put a cup of water and some stale bread inside with the bird. Then he covered the coop. When the little bird woke up, looked around and spotted the water and bread, and he thinks “ Holy moly! I killed the biker.”

Mrs. Ravioli comes to visit her son Anthony for dinner. He lives with a female roommate, Maria. During the course of the meal, his mother couldn’t help but notice how pretty Anthony’s roommate is. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Anthony and his roommate than met the eye. Reading his mom’s thoughts, Anthony volunteered, “I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Maria and I are just roommates.’’ About a week later, Maria came to Anthony saying, “Ever since your mother came to dinner, I’ve been unable to find the silver sugar bowl. You don’t suppose she took it, do you?” “Well, I

This biker was riding on a hot sunny day. He wanted find a bar where other bikers go and have a cold beer. As he pulled in this little town he noticed some choppers and some bikers at this little bar. So he pulls in and noticed a lot of bikers wearing patches and some wearing their colors. Some of these guys really looked bad. He parked his bike right by the front door. He decided he better take his gun and went into the bar. Some of the bikers in there decided to mess with him a little bit. He decided he better let them know he was tuff, too. He ordered him a beer and decided to walk out side to check on his bike. Wow, it was gone, not there. He walks back inside and pulls his gun; fires one shot at a wooden post and got everyone’s attention. He yells. “Hey look here, my damn bike is missing! And when I finish my beer and go back outside, it better be right where I left it or I don’t want to have to do what I did at the last bar.” So he sits down and the bikers got real quiet. The bar tender goes over to him and says what did you do at the last bar about your bike? The guy replies, “I’ll tell you when I check on my bike and it better be back right where I left it.” So he finishes his brew and walks back outside to check on his bike. Wow, it was back and right where he parked it. He walks back into the bar and says, “I’ll being leaving now. You guys have a good day.” Bartender goes: “Hey, wait a minute, what did you do at the last bar when your bike was missing?” Guy goes, “I had to call a taxi.”

Diet And Exercise I went to the doctor the other day and he told me I needed to lose some weight, like I didn’t already know it. After all it’s only 8 pounds. He said the key to losing weight is, (are you ready for this?) diet and exercise. You know, putting in the right foods, and then working muscles until you raise your heart rate and sweat like a horse. I don’t remember it being that hard to put the weight on. Just stop at the nearest buffet and eat until you cannot breath. Now being a motor head, I had to apply this to my motorcycle. For instance, I never feed my scoot anything but premium gas. It starts easier, idles better, and runs allot stronger. I even treat it to a few gallons of Cam 2 race fuel in the winter months, because regular fuel just won’t do. And, well, as far as exercise, if you drive anything slow all the time it will become sluggish. You see you even need exercise an engine to blow out all the gunk that accumulates as time goes by. I prefer the “full throttle” method. Start the engine and warm it up, put transmission in gear then ride at full throttle until reasonable speed is reached. Repeat if necessary. The spirit man also needs diet and exercise. We need the Word of God to feed our soul. Spending time in the Word will nourish us, kind of like running high-octane fuel. Living our life according to the Word is our “spiritual exercise”. It too will remove all the gunk in our lives. Helping others, for instance, will make you feel better. Do it on a regular basis and

helping others will become second nature. Just like we need doctors and mechanics to keep our stuff running right we need Jesus as a constant source of “diet and exercise”. If you don’t know Jesus as your personal savior, please ask Him into your life today. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me”. (John 14:6) Then change your diet and exercise plan. Ride safe, ride free, but most of all ride saved. Later…

Custom Built By Dum & Dummer Randy Welborn of Sophia, NC and his friend Richard Wall built this beast over the winter of 2012 with the intention of taking it to the Easyriders Bike Show in Charlotte. However, that plan was delayed by Randy’s neck surgery. I am not sure if the Open House at World Class Powersports on February 22nd was its debut, but that is where I saw it, and I loved it! Here’s the scoop. Randy and Richard built the frame and fitted a 350 Chevy stroker motor that develops 510 horsepower into it. Everything is custom built. The power is transferred to the Cadillac wire wheels (with vintage Ford hubcaps) via a Franklin Quick Change rear end. It has a ’61 Chrysler dashboard, a Ford Edsel grille, Farmall tractor seats, and STOP lights from an antique school bus. The handle bars are made from double barrel shot guns and what looks light a gun sight from an old open cockpit airplane. There is another shotgun mounted on the right rear fender within reach of the driver. The rear fenders on each side are fabricated from two 37 Chevy fenders that were welded together and turned around backwards and fitted with 59 Cadillac taillights. The parts and the shotguns all came from flea markets and they just put it together as they went. This baby isn’t a cookiecutter production bike. It’s CUSTOM, BABY!

Hurricane Alley Fall Rally 2014 The Best In Years By: Everette “EZ” Short While no one will ever agree on the name, since some call it the Myrtle Beach Fall Bike Week or The Pilgrimage and now some are even calling it Murrells Inlet Fall Bike Week, whatever you call it, this is a serious migration of friends, family, and strangers that come together on the beach for a hell of a good, week long, rip roaring bash. This year, many said it harkened back to the days of old, with wild men, hot women, cold beers in most every hand, and limited police involvement. The numbers from a decade ago are gone, but the crowd has been replaced by a little older and wiser demographic. The events started on Friday, September 26th with hundreds piling in by the hour and it all ended today on Sunday, October 5th, with only one motorcycle fatality, as far as we know, for the entire time. On the North end, The Swingbridge Saloon held their bi-annual Welcome Home Party to a constant crowd of revelers piling in all through the day to enjoy the return of Karaoke Bob under the Tiki Hut bar. Just before sunset, Jeff Long and his bevy of beautiful servers, as well as beefy biker bouncers, doled out a free helping for everyone to sample the incomparable pork’n fixins straight from the kitchen of Dem Boyz BBQ’n. Unfortunately for us all, Dem Boyz could only make a brief appearance as their mother has fallen ill. We all said a prayer for her and we wish her a speedy recovery. Then, it was time for some rockin’ good tunes when Tammy’s Tangent lit up the main stage. The lots were full and this was a great place to see all your old and new best friends. Just up the road, Harley’s Roadhouse, a 22 acre big time fun factory in a ginormous Red barn off Hwy #9 and the #31, had the tunes blasting and the drinks flowing with Steve Price taking the reigns again to bring the old girl back to her previous glory. Down the road at Beach Customs, Terry, Drew, and the crew talked casually to the sound of wrenching, while showing off their latest trike and big wheel conversion kits. If you

get down here and you’re a gear head, go to see them. You’ll be impressed with these world famous wrenchers. Up to the North end on King’s Highway in Little River, Rickey’s Dockside had to postpone their Redneck Rodeo, but they welcomed all the incoming bikers crossing the state line with open arms. Meanwhile, The Harley Shop at the Beach had the big tent set up with motorcycles selling like hot cakes with games, prizes, and some really cool deals going on there. It’s the people that work there that make the difference. In Myrtle Beach proper, Dog House Donny’s Saloon hosted parties until dawn for every night of the rally and a “Ridin’ with The Dogfather” old skool reunion on Saturday, while Knuckleheads held their “Ride Without Reasons” for breast cancer research. Red and White (The Big Red Machine) held their heroes ride on Saturday as well, with the grand finale at The Hard Rock Cafe in Broadway at the Beach on The Ride For Trey Benefit Run. You know we’re in a new world when patch holders do more to benefit kids than the local church groups. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that The Lost Boys all held court across from the Zip Line in the middle of Myrtle Beach at Guage’s new bar, Barnacle Bills Rum and Raw Oyster Bar. If you left there hungry, it was your own damn fault. Guage and his crew will make you have a good time no matter who you are, but if you bust a rib laughing, well that, too, is your own damn fault.

On the edge of town, Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson’s main store was kicking it with venders on the side and out back, but it wasn’t up to previous levels thanks to the lack of permits issued. Can you believe the city of MB still hasn’t figured out that they shot themselves in the foot and issued a total of 22

vendor permits? Across the street, JC Childers and his crew of lovely lasses were singing, slinging slop, and showing off their newest edition of The City Line Saloon woman’s wear and there was a lot of jumping up and down going on. I guess you had to be there to see it. Tony wore some nice tight leathers and I don’t know exactly what she was doing, but she should keep on doing it. On the South end of the sands, Patty’s Dew Drop Inn was full of characters all night long, including Patty who has just recovered from a heart attack, but was there just for immoral support. Further to the South, Coastal Victory Indian Motorcycle had an open house with two of the new Scouts on display and a whole lot of Indian and Victory motorcycles on the premises. They have a great atmosphere there. Just sitting at the bar with their crew and taking a minute to talk to them is always a pleasure, but getting to an open stool at the bar is the trick. Meanwhile, all week long, Murrells Inlet was the obvious winner in the Myrtle Beach grudge match that continues to fuel the feud. At SBB, on Saturday night, Rebel Son hit the stage to a hot mess of a crowd that spilled out into the back lot and all down the street. I personally LOVE these guys and Lee Johnson went on a rant about “If you THINK country music is a preset on your car radio, then you have no idea!” He is outstanding and these guys are the real deal. Down the street, at Kathy’s Rockin’ Hard Saloon, Joe Santana was killing his guitar to a packed house as well. You have got to love worldclass musicians playing their hearts out just inches from your face with no cover charge! We live in a blessed world, here at the beach in South Carolina, but nothing beats The Fall Rally to get you lickkered up for no good reason to dance like a white man. As a side note, if you come down without your bike and you see it’s a good day to ride, stop by BJ’s Scooters to rent one. That’s right! They rent Harley’s, Buells, and other full sized motorcycles, as well as scooters. And they’re good peoples. If I missed anyone I am so sorry, but I think I will have to sleep for a week to get over the past few days. Y’all is so crazy and thank you for all coming down just to be yourselves. Y’all come back now, ya hear? And check out your photos online at www.FullThrottleMagazine.com on the interweb. See y’all soon.

BFBF’s 3rd Annual Tim Diffin Memorial Run “Riding With Angels” By: Jeanie Hood Carter, BFBF I am sure many of you remember reading about the past Tim Diffin Memorial Runs in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. It is always a bittersweet event and one where you truly feel the love. This year was no different with 57 bikes on the run, 75 riders, and approximately 150 people supporting and participating throughout the day. Vendors and Bikers For Bikers Foundation met at The Dog House, did the usual set up at 10am, registration at 11am, and KSU at high noon. Believe me, the registration line is a long one and it’s all we can do to get everyone registered in time for KSU! Mickey, President of BFBF, and “Bullet”, VP of BFBF, were working hard and fast to meet the deadline, while Ted Hedges sold the annual event tee shirts. The tees are in limited quantity and sell out fast! The fun part of the registration is seeing people you haven’t seen since the last event, seeing bikers you knew 30 years ago (if you still recognize each other), meeting new people from your friends on social sites, and of course admiring all the fabulous motorcycles, their ornaments, helmets, and vests! The camaraderie is the highest at this event every year. Susan Graham with the Cumberland County Department of Social Services - Foster Children set up to explain the needs of foster children and good homes in the county. It was a pleasure to have her. Susan’s Supervisor made an appearance at the event as well. Both are extremely grateful for the support the event brings in for these often forgotten and needy children. The funds made from the event ALL go to The Cumberland County Foster Children’s Christmas Fund. Two years ago, after the first Tim Diffin Memorial Run, BFBF found a very worthy and needy cause with the local foster children. Twin brother, Tom, and the BFBF Board of Directors decided to make this cause the recipient of funds annually. There are 755 children in the system this year in Cumberland County alone that will need Christmas. There is very little other support for these kids at Christmas. As all gathered around before KSU, Tom said a prayer for a safe ride and thanks for the blessing of a crowd. Stops on the run were Speed Demon/M & M Leather, Mugshots, and Lost Memories. Some riders made the usual stop to see Tim’s 93 year old dad, ex-vet, and pay respects. live music by “Southern Run” and a catered buffet style meal provided by Evan’s Catering and The Dog House greeted riders returning to The Dog House around 4pm. The food was well above the usual biker event food. There was baked pork loin with a bourbon and apple sauce to die for, cheesy creamed potatoes, fresh squash cooked in garlic and white wine, the best baked homemade mac and cheese I have ever eaten, seasoned green beans with a tad of sausage, and hot homemade rolls! Everyone loved the food, including me! Kudo’s to the cook at The Dog House and Evan’s Catering for the outstanding food and for

being big supporters of this event. Next, more fun, with the auction, door prizes, and raffle items! There were so many! The high auction items were a rocking chair provided by Mickey, 2 vintage and numbered china dolls provided by Beverly Rose Designs, and a stainless steel pot rack provided by Blue Damsel Vending. Yes, the bidding war was on! Other prizes ranged from tees, leather vests, leather bags, coolers, koozies, vest extenders, ladies spandex short sets, hand beaded serving sets, oil changes, candles, jewelry, movie passes, and so many more I can’t even remember! Most of the local motorcycle shops and leather shops are real supporters of this and extremely generous. High hand from the run paid $100 and low hand paid $50! Tons of fun was being had by all! A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to those who supported this wonderful event, to all the volunteers and members who worked the event. These folks get it and are wonderful supporters! BFBF will continue to take donations until just before Christmas for the Tim Diffin Memorial Fund which ALL goes to the Cumberland County Foster Children’s Christmas Fund. There will be a “BFBF Angel Tree” set up at Ft. Bragg HarleyDavidson for gift cards or to donate and support these children. Go to http://goo.gl/udSJNK if you would like to donate.

Mark Walker For Congress

By: Mark Infield If you have read The Carolinas’ Full throttle Magazine for any length of time, I am sure you realize that politics is not a big part of our content. In fact, it is virtually non-existent. However, I think that this election is critical for the future of our country and we have always been strong advocates of voting. It is just my personal belief that our country was founded by men who were inspired by God when they created the documents that are the foundation of our nation. I also believe that we have got to return to citizen legislators who have the best interests of our citizens and country at heart instead of career politicians to escape the cycle of cronyism and corruption that is so prevalent in Washington today. I am not endorsing any one party, but prefer to focus on quality candidates to fill important seats in Congress to move our nation forward. One such man, Mark Walker, is a candidate for the seat vacated by the retiring Howard Coble in the 6th district of NC. Mark believes that our liberty comes from our Creator and not from the government. He believes the time is now to elect people who will stand on conviction and principle to begin, with the help of local citizens and guidance from above, to rebuild the foundation of our nation. Even though he is not a politician, Mark Walker has the credentials to be a leader in Congress. He has worked in

finance, education, ministry, and missions. The Sheriffs of Guilford and Alamance Counties, the Mayors of Summerfield and Stokesdale, the former Guilford County GOP Chairman, North Carolina’s most recent 6th District Chairman as well as a host of city council officials and county commissioners have endorsed him. Mark Walker is a family man, married 21 years to his wife, Kelly, and the father of 3 children. If you are in the 6th Congressional District of NC, I urge you to consider Mark Walker to represent you in Washington, DC. You can learn more about Mark Walker at Walker4NC.com. If you do not live in the 6th Congressional District, please research your candidates carefully and vote for those who hold liberty dear and adhere to the principles set forth in the US Constitution and the Bill Of Rights. Remember: Not voting is not protesting the system or the candidates. It is surrendering your right to help mold our country and the direction it takes into the future. Think about it and VOTE November 4th.
