here we live, by March 15th weather has changed and winter is in the rearview mirror. That has proven to be the case again this year and pent up motorcyclists rushed to take advantage of the nicer weather. The past several weekends have been nice and there were bikes out everywhere. Unfortunately, along with the early riding season bliss, comes an increase in motorcycle crashes and fatalities. It breaks my heart to hear of people being hit while moving in traffic and even rear ended while sitting at traffic lights. All too often we get so taken up in the scenery and the rush of the wind in our face that we forget how unforgiving motorcycling can be. I see people gawking around and waving merrily at other motorcyclists and it scares my mule! Now, don’t get me wrong, this is the stuff our passion is made of, but one must always apply a certain amount of cautious observation about your surroundings. Motorcycling takes copious amounts of awareness to both sights and sounds that may be warnings of trouble. You know, squalling tires and even weather can make your heart skip a beat. What I am trying to say is pay attention and, hopefully, you can avoid an unpleasant situation. Remember, the cagers are subject to the same (and even additional distractions) as motorcyclists. Add in a cell phone, loud music, and a couple of friends to create a receipt for danger. I believe that this shifts more responsibility to us since people in cages are not near as vulnerable as those on two (or three) wheels. I am sure that you will agree that we want to avoid accidents at all costs. I love motorcycles and riding is one of my passions. If you have ever been in an accident or one of your riding buddies has gone down, you know that the fun ends when someone gets hurt. Everything changes in an instant. A fun day turns into pain and sometimes a trip to the hospital or even worse, the mortuary. Please be careful out there. Enjoy your ride to the fullest, but try not to put yourself and others in a bad position. Know your limits and ride accordingly. Now get out there and live life to the fullest. Here’s wishing you the best riding season ever.

10th Annual Hogs & Rags Rally

By: Wendy Rogers 10 years! Yes, 10 years and counting for the Annual HOGS & RAGS Rally ride going from Fayetteville, NC to Myrtle Beach, SC totally escorted! This event is part of the Dogwood Festival of Fayetteville and has been growing every year to become the biggest motorcycle day rally in the Carolinas. The HOGS & RAGS RALLY! - The premier community charity event that combines convertibles and motorcycles, great food, good causes, and a good time. All makes and models of bikes, trikes, street rods, and muscle cars are welcome. Let me be clear about this: Even though the name of the event is Hogs and Rags and “hogs” usually refers to Harley-Davidson motorcycles and “rags” usually means convertible cars (that is how the event started out), we invite all motorcycles and cars to participate. This is a wonderful event, which supports wonderful causes and we want everyone to know they are welcome. Last year we had over 350 participants. WE WANT YOU! Fayetteville Mayor, Nat Robertson, and his wife, Kim, who are also motorcycle enthusiasts, will lead this year’s event again. They will be leading us along with a Cumberland County Deputy Sheriff’s escort, all the way to Myrtle Beach, SC. Knowing that the ride will benefit others just makes the day that much better. Proceeds will benefit the Green Beret Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and Kidsville News Literacy and Education Foundation. Even though there is a Cumberland County Deputy Sheriff’s escort for the entire ride from Fayetteville to Myrtle Beach, SC, the Hogs & Rags organizers know that keeping hundreds of riders safe is a huge undertaking. Before the ride we have a safety briefing and it covers the route, hand and arm signals, things to do in a ride, and how to ride safely as a group. And it is nice to have the cops in front of you instead of behind you! While everyone loves a good time, raising money for a charity is a big part of the Hogs & Rags mission. For anyone who rides or chooses to donate, here is where your money will go: American Cancer Society: The goal of the American Cancer Society (ACS) is to prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from cancer. They are committed to fighting cancer through balanced programs of research, education, patient service, advocacy, and rehabilitation. Kidsville News Literacy and Education Foundation: Despite ongoing efforts to provide reading and educational resources

to our nation’s youth, illiteracy is still a problem in the United States. Founded in 2011, this charity provides literacy education and character development resources FREE to children K-6th grade. It strives to increase literacy in our nation’s youth by providing support to various early learning and literacybased initiatives across the country. The foundation approves grants to qualified projects and institutions that endeavor to instill strong reading and education skills and solid characterdevelopment traits in America’s youth. Find out more at KidsvilleNews.com Green Beret Foundation: The Green Beret Foundation provides unconventional resources to facilitate the special needs of our wounded, ill, and injured and imparts unique support to the Special Forces community in order to strengthen readiness and uphold Green Beret traditions and values. The United States Army Special Forces, commonly known as the Green Berets, produces some of our nation’s finest and most elite warriors. They fight across a broad spectrum of missions in the pursuit of freedom for those oppressed and to protect our nation from those who seek to do us harm. They are known as our country’s quiet professionals. Registration starts at 7:30am at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum located at 100 Bragg Boulevard in Fayetteville, where there will be coffee and donuts. Kickstands up at 9 am. The Cumberland County Sheriff will provide the riders an escort to Altman’s Rockin’ “A” Ranch, in White Oak, where everyone will be served a full breakfast. Then the ride continues on to Magaritaville at Broadway at the Beach, for a tasty and filling lunch. There will be a reverse raffle for $2500 and some guns, door prizes, music, and great socializing for a great cause. The entire event ends around 3pm, leaving plenty of time to make it back to Fayetteville or to enjoy other surrounding activities in Myrtle Beach. Registration is $50 per person. This includes a T-shirt, breakfast and a lunch and a great contribution to the great charities. So, please plan on joining us on April 25th. Spring Forward At Greensboro Harley-Davidson By: WildThing On Saturday, March 7th, Greensboro HarleyDavidson held their ‘Spring Forward” Open House aptly named for the weekend change to daylight savings time. Mother Nature contributed beautiful weather to complete the portrait of the beginning of the riding season. The dealership had lots of shiny new motorcycles on display in the parking lot with black and orange balloons waving in the breeze – an invitation to come for a closer look. Inside, there was a schedule of Work Shops, a Scavenger Hunt, and refreshments. The Scavenger Hunt was indoors, and you had to answer a questionnaire of Harley trivia by scouting out the answers. The questions weren’t easy and it took some serious sleuthing to discover the answers. Dana from Greensboro won the hunt and was presented with a $500 gift card. He told me he was eyeing the ‘Boom! Audio’ system for his bike. He was surely pleased with his prize. Customers that day could also register for a Mystery Gift Card with the winner to be notified via email the following Tuesday. The sales and service staff members at Greensboro HarleyDavidson were on hand conducting the various Work Shops at the assigned times to whomever was interested in the particular topic. The topics covered were: Riding Gear, Boom! Audio, Dyno, Infotainment Center, and LED. At the Dyno Work Shop, the service manager, Paul, and David, the Dyno tech, demonstrated hooking up a motorcycle inside the specially constructed Dyno Room to the machine and running the Dyno test. They explained how it worked and what the benefits of Dyno testing were. There was a Riding Academy class on hand that day participating in the Work Shops. The staff was very well versed

in the features of LED lighting, various types of riding gear, and Harley’s audio and entertainment products. They fielded questions as the customers and class members associated these products to their own riding style and type of motorcycle. It was a great day to become acquainted with the latest products Greensboro Harley-Davidson has to offer. As the festivities were winding down, many of us naturally gravitated up the hill to Chunk’s Hawg Haven to relax with a cold beverage. Robin and Renee and their friendly bartenders convey a warm welcome and relaxing atmosphere in Greensboro’s best biker bar. The next Greensboro Harley-Davidson’s event – the Spring Fling, on April 18th is listed in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine’s Cruisin’ Calendar. Plan to be there. You will be glad you did.

The Legend Of Kaye Perper

By: Everette “EZ” Short On Valentine’s Day of this year, we lost a legend of the beach riding community when Kaye Perper passed us on her last ride home. Born on October 20, 1941, Kaye was one of the first solo female motorcycle riders on the sands of The Strand. She was one of the first of her kind to start a trend that would get women off the back of the bike and behind their own set of handlebars for adventures on two wheels. She started out riding a Honda Rebel 250cc until the day in the early 90’s that Handlebar Mike built her an 883 HarleyDavidson Sportster. Then, on Mother’s Day in 2003, her son, beach biker icon and City Line Saloon owner, JC Childers, gave her the 1200 Harley-Davidson Sportster that she rode until recently, and only gave up riding after a quick turn left her with a broken leg. Think about it; at 62 years old, Kaye mounted a new Harley-Davidson 1200 Sportster and rode it like a champ. She was always a truly amazing individual. On Saturday, February 28th, close to a hundred of Kaye’s friends and family met at The City Line Saloon to celebrate the life and times of this wonderful woman with a feast of southern goodies that surrounded a table full of memories, pictures from the past, and several noteworthy personal items. Kaye was a biker to the core and was a long time member of ABATE for most of the 80’s and well into the 90’s. Since moving to the beach from Charleston in 1971, she was

a major supporter of all the local motorcycle events and most of the people that have come together in this area to become one big biker family. Kaye leaves behind a sister, Roxanne, her son JC Childers, and hundreds of friends who became family through the years and over the miles. I have personally met over a dozen women whom she convinced or showed the way to ride solo on their own motorcycle. Her presence will be missed by so many that she made an impression on. Ride on Kaye. You are still with us in spirit and we can still see you smiling across the miles. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.

4th Annual Kids Of Childhood Cancer Chili Cook Off

By: Caroline This is an event that everyone at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson and elsewhere look forward to every year and this year was no exception. It was originally scheduled for February 21st, but was cancelled and rescheduled for Saturday, March 14th, which turned out to be a cold rainy day for riding but an excellent day to eat chili. Most importantly, it benefited Kids of Childhood Cancer, an organization that supports families and children devastated by this disease. Competitors could enter their chili for a $20 fee if they pre registered. For a $10 donation, you could taste them all and vote for your favorite. This year’s event raised $3,099 and Nicole Francisco was recognized and awarded for the most money raised online. The winners for the Chili Cook-off are 2nd Place - Mark Jones and 3rd Place - Kerry Alexander; each winning $25. Cindy Perez took 1st Place winning $100. However, Kerry Alexander also took home the People’s Choice award. Congratulations to all the winners, and to every chili entry—it was all super, and a treat for all us chili lovers. A special thanks to our celebrity judges, Biggie from Rock 92 and Tanya Rivera of WFMY News 2, for stopping by and judging the chili! Smokin’ Harley-Davidson has promised that there will indeed be a 5th event next year for us all to look forward to.

21st Annual Burlington H.O.G. And Down Home Harley-Davidson Hospice Bike Show

By: Scott Wicker Remnants of snow, ice, and less than ideal weather had little effect on this year’s 21st Annual Burlington H.O.G. And Down Home Harley-Davidson Hospice Bike Show. A handful of brave riders actually rode through the snow to get to the show. The Show was held, as usual, inside the Holly Hill Mall in Burlington on Saturday, February 28th and Sunday, March 1st. 69 motorcycles represented 37 classes and categories to raise over $20,000 for Hospice of Alamance and Caswell Counties. This year’s total was the 4th best in the show’s history. Throughout the shows history, it has raised over $270,000 in contributions. Donations were also raised through sales of 50/50 tickets. $427 was raised on Saturday and $1283 on Sunday, and the Ladies of Harley Bake Sale raised $366 during the event, too. A special one of a kind Harley-Davidson leather outfit that belonged to Sandi Davis was auctioned off for over $500 and was won by Beverly Corbett. Each bike had milk jugs tied to the front wheel so spectators could make contributions by putting money in the jug of their favorite bike. As in years past, everyone was allowed to raise contributions prior to the event. Trophies were awarded in each class to those who raised the most and to those who raised the 2nd and 3rd highest amounts also. All the bikes were also judged separately by a panel of judges making it two shows in one. As in years past, the support was overwhelming. The winners and top finishers in each class are as follows. The 4th Annual Ft. Bragg H-D / Freedom Biker Church Chili Cook-Off

By: Jody & Pam Shotwell February 28th was the date for the 4th Annual Ft. Bragg Harley-Davidson/Freedom Biker Church Chili Cook-Off. It was a cold, blustery, but sunny Saturday morning with the temperature of 36º, and a wind chill that made the real-feel 27º. This was a perfect day for chili taste testing. There were sixteen chili cooking teams in place. Cooking team names were Rat Rod, JT’s Mom and Dad, Team Beam, Thomas and Robin, Run Elsie Run, Holt, Second Chance, Solfyre, Fat Baby Chili 2, Mingo Swamp Rats, Bruce and the Steele Angels, Neighbors, White, Pope, Harrison, and GiGi. Each had their secret ingredients cooked and tweaked them all night long. There were approximately two hundred taste testers/ judges ready for a hot cup of chili. At the end of the chili line was the Freedom Biker Church Iron Angels Bake Sale with brownies, fudge, cakes, cookies and other desserts one might like. When the taste testing was completed and all judges had voted for the “best chili” the winners were announced. Fourth

Place and a Medal went to “Pope” - Kenny Pope. Third Place Trophy and a $25 FBH-D gift card went to “Solfyre” - Jason Burney. Second Place Trophy and a $25 FBH-D gift card went to “JT’s Mom And Dad” - Jason and Wendy Olson. The 2015 Champion was “Harrison” - Perry Harrison who received the First Place Trophy, $100 Cash, and $50 FBH-D gift card. In closing remarks JD Tew, Preacher for Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville, thanked Ft. Bragg Harley-Davidson for donations and allowing us to have this chili cook-off at their place of business. He also thanked all the participants and everyone who came out. He welcomed anyone who did not have a home church to visit Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville, located at 455 Rock Hill Road Fayetteville. AMA Pro Racing Adds The Don Tilley Memorial Charlotte Half-Mile To 2015 AMA Pro Flat Track Schedule

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 19, 2015) - AMA Pro Racing is pleased to announce the addition of a half-mile race to be held at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC, on Aug. 29 to its 2015 AMA Pro Flat Track schedule. The world-class dirt track at Charlotte Motor Speedway will play host to the best dirt track riders in the world in an event that will be known as the Don Tilley Memorial Charlotte Half-Mile to honor the Harley-Davidson racing icon. Tilley’s storied career started in the 1960s. He led several championship teams including the famous Lucifer’s Hammer Battle of the Twins Harley-Davidson with rider Gene Church. Tilley maintains the record as one of the most successful racing builders in AMA history. “Adding Charlotte to our 2015 schedule is very exciting,” said Michael Gentry, Chief Operating Officer of AMA Pro Racing. “Not only is the facility top-notch, but its location in the heart of America’s racing country means we can expect to see plenty of fans, both new and old. We’re also happy to be able to honor someone who made such an imprint on motorcycle racing as Don Tilley.” AMA Pro Flat Track last raced in Charlotte in 2002 in a halfmile race won by Kevin Varnes. The two other AMA Pro Flat

Track races held in Charlotte were won by Will Davis in 2001 and Mike Hacker in 2000. “We’re excited to bring AMA Pro Grand National flat track racing back to Charlotte,” said Steve McLaughlin, of SMI, the company promoting the event. “As we all know, this region of the Carolinas is a world center of racing and there was a real hunger on the part of motorcycle fans to have an AMA Pro Grand National in North Carolina. We’re also humbled by the opportunity to get to honor one of the true legends of motorcycling in Don Tilley, my friend for over 40 years. His passing last year left all of us in the motorcycling community mourning and it will be wonderful for fans, family, and friends of the Tilleys to be able to come together and not only memorialize a legend, but to also celebrate his life in the way that I’m sure he would have loved.” Both the Harley-Davidson GNC1 class presented by Vance & Hines and the GNC2 class will be featured at Charlotte. The 2015 NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, CA was the first event of the season for Ray Price Racing. Going into race day, defending Top Fuel Harley Champion, Tommy Grimes led the pack as the #1 qualifier. “We ran well on the first pass. We went a little light, because you want to make it in the show right away. We ran a 6.35 elapsed time which was good,” said team owner, Ray Price. “The next few passes allow you to play with different things and make changes and that’s what we did. In the second session we stepped things up and ran a 6.30.” Price and his team were looking forward to running even faster in the third qualifying session, but Mother Nature had other plans. “On the last pass we were really hoping to do a good number. We had read the track really well and understood and what conditions were like. But then it rained and we didn’t get the chance.” Grimes had the Low E.T. of the event with a 6.302 and also the Top Speed of the event going 229.27 mph. Grimes faced #6 qualifier, Joey Sternotti, in round one of eliminations. Unfortunately, race day ended early after Grimes fouled out with a red light start.

Price went on to add, “The team did a marvelous job overall; they really did a great tuning job. We set a goal and ran faster than we thought we would.” The next race in the Top Fuel Harley Series is March 20-22 at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, Louisiana. FBI Admits All Registered Motorcycle Owners Are On Classified Gang List http://washingtonpost.com.co MSNBC correspondent Jeremy Lancaster sat down with government official Darrin Cornia to discuss recent rumors that have been in circulation in regard to registered motorcycle owners being placed on a classified FBI gang list. Darrin Cornia who currently holds a position within the National Security Branch of the government agreed to complete transparency prior to the interview with MSNBC’s Jeremy Lancaster and did remain direct and seemingly forthright throughout his conversation with Lancaster. After a few moments of introduction, Lancaster bluntly asked the following question,” Mr. Cornia, if I were to make the statement, all registered motorcycle owners are currently showing on a classified FBI gang list, would the statement be true or false? Cornia responded by saying, “That would be a true statement, the FBI has been collecting and compiling Department of Motor Vehicles and Drivers License Division records for the purpose of adding those that own motorcycles to a classified gang list since 1994. We may not like to admit it, but the truth of the matter is that those that own and operate motorcycles are 67% more likely to be involved in illegal or criminal activity than those that do not own or operate a motorcycle.” The National Security Official went on to explain, “It’s the same as firearms, if local P.D. or Highway Patrol were to pull someone over that is a registered firearm owner, that officer has the right to know this information going into the interaction. The same could be said about a local P.D. or Highway Patrol Officer that pulled over a registered motorcycle owner, the situations are honestly interchangeable in the eyes of National and Homeland Security. MSNBC correspondent Jeremy Lancaster asked Cornia if placing citizens on a gang list just because they are registered motorcycle owners is considered as profiling, Cornia responded to the question by saying, “As a nation, do we complain when we add someone that has a Crips or Bloods tattoo to a gang list even though the individual swears up and down that they don’t have gang affiliation? Again these are 2 situations that are interchangeable, we can’t pick and choose.” Lancaster asked how individuals can find out if they are on this classified gang list to which Cornia responded, “Did you register a motorcycle or obtain a Class M license anytime between the year 1994 and 2015? If so, than you are on the list.” The MSNBC correspondent concluded the interview by asking Cornia, “Aside from potential profiling from law enforcement, are there potentially any additional consequences of being on this gang list?” Cornia responded by saying, “The purpose of the list is to collect and utilize data, not to create consequences. Aside from notifying law enforcement that you are a registered motorcycle owner or operator, it can show up to potential employers on select background checks.” CONTINUED ON PG #80

By: Kickstart In December of 2014, a group of people that are trying to promote the cause “Awareness = Prevention” for abused children came together and founded C.H.A.N.C.E.. On March 7th, Crusaders Helping Abused and Neglected Children Everywhere (C.H.A.N.C.E) held its first “Meet and Greet” from 2-5pm at South Lake Saloon in Lexington, SC. Many local bikers from surrounding areas gathered to support C.H.A.N.C.E. enjoy a plate of Spaghetti and, of course, socialize while a DJ spun some of their favorite tunes. After all, it was a Meet and Greet and who could resist a free plate of spaghetti? A 9-ball tournament and a 3-ball match were held. T-shirts were sold and donations were accepted. All the money raised was earmarked for all area child advocacy centers. Ray B. won the 50/50 and donated the money back to the cause. This was a great day with a good turnout for this new organization. Saladin Cycle Shop By: Anchor Saladin Cycle Shop opened up on September 1, 2013 and they’re coming up on their second anniversary soon. Josh and his wife, Elizabeth and his wonderful daughter Maddie own the shop. They also have one on the way to help with the cycle empire. ShopRag, a gentleman working with them, seems to be a very good authority for builds that they both work on. Josh and ShopRag specialize in vintage Harleys due to the fabrication abilities of the shop. Josh started building and repairing bikes about 14 years ago. A friend of his turned him on to building motorcycles and choppers and moved him away from hotrods. Josh comes from a small town in western Oklahoma and is a lifetime member of the NRA. Josh wanted to get into more of the motorcycle side and started to work for some big name shops that were in Baltimore and Washington, DC. Then he decided to come to Western North Carolina and build the shop so that he could focus on building and working on motorcycles from scratch or repairing bikes that are almost impossible to get parts for. I have seen him take motorcycles that are not even from this area (like Russia) and find a way to make his customer happy with a bike that ran just as good as it’s supposed to. I have personally taken my own bike to Saladin Cycle Shop and was very pleased with the service. They also offer 24 hour motorcycle emergency towing and they have the best tire prices around. As I said once before, there isn’t anything that Saladin Cycle Shop cannot do that involves your motorcycle needs. If you have a bike and you have had it for years and years and you don’t know who to trust, then take it to Saladin Cycle Shop. Just to help you with your decision, one of the biggest references they have is that the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC trusts Josh to repair bikes for them. Josh is

The appetizing smell of Boston Butts cooking on the grill permeated the air. Tom Kat of Rock Hill was there with his delicious boiled peanuts. Iron Station Thunder is dedicated to their customers. Pam Williamson Benefit By: Kickstart & Wendy On March 7th a benefit was held for Pam Williamson. The run began at The Hanger where Pam worked as a bartender. About 100 bikes participated. The weather was perfect and a $15 donation put you in the line up. The ride went to Animal’s, Bunky’s, Double T’s, Jake’s Place, and Tommy’s T Bar. Pam was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma in December 2014. Prior to her diagnosis, the cancer affected her ability to work on a regular basis and like many people; she could not afford health insurance. In her attempt to find out what was wrong, was bounced between several doctors and visited the emergency room twice before ending up at SC Oncology. She had surgery on Jan. 20th and was hospitalized for 2 nights. She will be out of work for another 3-4 weeks, with NO income at all. Anyone that knows Pam knows the huge heart and giving spirit that she shares with all. While at The Bar of Lexington, she hosted numerous benefits and raised thousands of dollars for many individuals and organizations. Unfortunately the tables have turned and now Pam needs our help. In addition to the ride, there was an 8-ball and a 9-ball tournament and the winners donated the money back. As for the ride, Wendy won best hand and donated the $200 back and Robert, the guy she rode with, won $100 for worst hand. They both donated their winnings to Pam.

The EPA And My Motorcycle

By: WildThing I am, by no means an expert, but I have been trying to keep up with the Environmental Protection Agency and their Renewable Fuel Standards. The EPA was deluged with complaints from motorcycle manufacturers, small engine manufacturers, and motorcycle rights groups like the American Motorcyclist Association and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, not to mention the motorcycle enthusiasts. Now the retail stations that use blender pumps must also provide at least one pump with at least one dedicated nozzle that will dispense gasoline containing no more than 10% ethanol. That may be a band-aid for now, but it’s not over yet. In an effort to prohibit the proliferation of E15, US Senators Pat Toomey, (R-PA), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) introduced S.577 on February 26, 2015. This bipartisan bill, ‘Corn Ethanol Mandate Elimination Act of 2015’ would eliminate the corn ethanol mandate in the Renewable Fuel Standard. The action was read twice and referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works. In following the progress of bills through the legislative channels, everyone knows that they sometimes never get out of committee and are never acted upon. Let’s not let that happen to S.577. Find out whom your Senators are and call, write, or email them and ask that they get on board as a co-sponsor. If we all work together as individual motorcycle enthusiasts and support the national legislative lobbyists, AMA, and MRF, maybe we can get this done. Be sure and tell them why you are concerned (you don’t want your motorcycle damaged by E-15) and that you will be following the progress of S.577 and respectfully request that they vote in favor of the bill. Nazareth Children’s Home 1st Quarter Birthday Party By: Darby L. Dillard I’m truly appreciative of all who came out in support of the children at Nazareth Children’s Home on 3-7-15 for the 1st Quarter Nazareth Children’s Home Birthday Party. If just two or three can ask two or three others, the support seems to come our way. Thank you all for the time well spent with the children. Usually after a successful Christmas Toy Run the next event is somewhat of a let down. But it wasn’t this time. Thank you all very much! I just received an audit on my tax return for 2013 from the IRS. It puzzles me! They are questioning how many dependents I claimed. By: Samantha Hayes Even though the weather was less than pleasant to ride in, hundreds of customers piled in to Ray Price Harley-Davidson and Ray Price Triumph where the annual Ladies Of Harley Pancake Breakfast and the popular Brunswick Stew Cook-off took place on Saturday, March 14, 2015. All proceeds benefit the North Carolinabased Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and the Ladies Of Harley charities. The family friendly event also featured a vintage British bike show, plus a motorcycle parts swap meet. The Ladies Of Harley Pancake Breakfast took place at 8 am followed by the Brunswick Stew Cook-Off at noon. Six chefs came out in the rainy conditions to start cooking and some even started at 5:30 that morning. The charity cook-off brought together area families, church groups, and restaurants that cooked up their best stew recipes at this fundraiser. Competition was fierce with cash prizes of $500 awarded for First Place to Wash Pot Stew, Second Place ($250) went to Bomb Squad, and Stewed, Screwed, and Tattooed took home $100 for Third Place. The Peoples Choice trophy went to The Clubhouse Grill. The event raised $845 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

The nonprofit Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation is dedicated to finding the cause and a cure for childhood brain tumors by supporting medical research and helping children and families affected by this disease. Ladies Of Harley are Raleigh H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) members who meet regularly for rides and philanthropy. Their process will benefit the Open Door Clinic, Food Bank of Eastern NC, and Women Veterans Support. If pancakes and Brunswick stew weren’t enough, a parts swap meet and vintage British bike show took place Saturday. Individuals and professional bike accessory and parts suppliers participated. The 4th Annual Triumph Vintage Day also welcomed all makes and models of classic bikes and modern-retro bikes. The event featured live music by The British Invaders. Even though the event was filled with activities for everyone, the list went on with a Blood Drive held by Rex Hospital. 2015 Burlington L.O.H. Chili Cook Off

By: Scott Wicker As in years past, an enthusiastic crowd looking to get great chili at Down Home Harley-Davidson came out on Saturday, March 7th to show support for the Burlington Ladies Of Harley Annual Chili Cook Off. Each of the members participating served an ample portion of chili to those that made a donation to benefit the Burlington Ladies Of Harley. Also, baked goods were also sold making this very popular event successful as usual. Several varieties of chili were served giving a variety of different flavors to this year’s event. All of the contestants served up some great chili, making it difficult to pick whose was the best. When all was said and done and all the votes were counted, Myra Crawford was named the 2015 Burlington L.O.H. “Chili Bean Queen”. This was the third year in a row that she has won. Myra also received a beautiful trophy and a $50 cash prize for her winning recipe. Myra will also represent the Burlington H.O.G. Chapter at the 29th Annual Bike Show and Chili Cook-Off to be held at Rommel Harley-Davidson in Durham, NC on Saturday, March 21st where several of the State’s H.O.G. Chapters will bring their best entries to compete for H.O.G. Club bragging rights!

Not everyone is cut out for anarchy because, at its heart, anarchy is the proposition that no one can govern a person better than himself. Anarchy isn’t bedlam, but control. Not chaos, but responsibility. Rules and laws are for those who have no self-control or sense of responsibility. Governments are made to administer those rules and control those people. Unfortunately, anarchists get tarred with the same authoritarian brush. By extension, anyone who governs himself completely and scorns another’s rules will be labeled a non-conformist. Every Anarchist is a non-conformist though not every non-conformist is an anarchist. But as the TV costume comedy series Sons of Anarchy illustrates, anyone can adopt the affectations of non-conformity and still be slavish to rules. It is simply the process of trading one set of rules for another, one suit for another. The columnist, Bill Vaughn once said, “If there is anything the nonconformist hates worse than a conformist, it’s another nonconformist who doesn’t conform to the prevailing standard of nonconformity.” Untangle that and you will realize that never were truer words spoken about the motorcycle-riding community. Everywhere are Tweets, Facebook posts, reviews, and videos railing and ranting against anyone who doesn’t non-conform just like everyone else. One video said weekend riders should be run off the road. Another said slow Harley riders should be banned. Still another gave rules for waving. According to the rules, you cannot be a true biker unless: -You’ve ridden 1,000 miles in 24 hours. -You ride no matter the weather. -You go to Sturgis -You ride everywhere you go -You’ve been riding since you were 9 -You ride a Harley -You don’t ride a Harley And so on and so on. To all this, I say, “Bull$hit!” I have my own rules. I bought just the motorcycle I wanted. I fixed it just the way I wanted it and I ride it exactly when and where I want to ride it. That may not conform to the prevailing standard of non-conformity, but I truly, truly do not care. I’m just sick to death of all the criticisms and people telling me how unworthy I am and how I must obey their rules. I enjoin everyone to ride what they want, when they want, and where they want. Wave the flag of anarchy and forget every rule anyone has ever told you about what is a real biker. Therein lies the true freedom of motorcycling. It’s not the wind in your face or the asphalt at your feet. It is being your own master. It is obeying your own rules. Have fun with life and ride safe, so you’ll have more of it. National Center For Policy Analysis Report www.NCPA,org Crude oil prices are dropping and Congress now wants a 15¢ increase (almost double!) in the federal gasoline tax, which currently stands at 18.4¢ per gallon. This increase would be in addition to the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), a hidden tax that Congress could repeal. Lawmakers argue the gas tax has not kept pace with inflation and in order to keep the Highway Trust Fund in the black, increased revenues are needed. A recent study from the Manhattan Institute found: • The RFS has been in effect since 2007 and requires fuel retailers to blend corn ethanol into the gasoline they sell. • American motorists pay more than $10 billion per year in extra fuel costs above what they would have paid if they had purchased gasoline alone. • Since 1982, on average, ethanol costs 2.4 times more than an energy-equivalent amount of gasoline.

• Ethanol-blended gasoline has lower energy density than pure gasoline, which means ethanol adulterated fuel renders poor fuel efficiency compared to its non-adulterated counterpart. Congress has imposed a de facto fuel tax on American motorists by forcing them to consume fuel that is more expensive than gasoline on an energy-equivalent basis. Furthermore, by not eliminating the Renewable Fuel Standard, Congress’ regulations prevent ethanol producers from competing in the motor fuel market. Kyle Petty Charity Ride Announces 21st Anniversary Route The Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America has announced the route for its 21st Anniversary motorcycle trek, taking place May 2-8, 2015. NBC Sports NASCAR analyst and former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty will lead 200 motorcyclists along the 2,500 mile-route, stretching from Santa Cruz, California to Branson, Missouri, to raise funds and awareness for Victory Junction – a camp created to enrich the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. “Each year, we select a route that’s full of breathtaking scenery, while also allowing us to spread the word and build excitement around our mission along the way,” said Petty. “Year after year, the ride creates lasting memories for our riders, most importantly, it provides life-changing opportunities for children at Victory Junction.” Spectators, visitors, and locals along the 2015 route are encouraged to attend one of the ride’s eight overnight stops or daily fuel stops to greet Petty and the riders, purchase ride memorabilia or make a donation to Victory Junction. The 2015 Kyle Petty Charity Ride Schedule: Day 1, Saturday, May 2 Santa Cruz, California to Bakersfield, California Day 2, Sunday, May 3 Bakersfield, California to Tonopah, Nevada Day 3, Monday, May 4 Tonopah, Nevada to Bryce Canyon, Utah Day 4, Tuesday, May 5 Bryce Canyon, Utah to Moab, Utah Day 5, Wednesday, May 6 Moab, Utah to Colorado Springs, Colorado Day 6, Thursday, May 7 Colorado Springs, Colorado to Hutchinson, Kansas Day 7, Friday, May 8 Hutchinson, Kansas to Branson, Missouri. As a result of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride, 7,815 children have attended Victory Junction at no cost to their families. My email has been blowing up with a story that is circulating on the internet, purportedly from the Washington Post, claiming that all registered motorcyclists in the U.S. are on an FBI gang list. The story goes on to say that motorcyclists are 67% more likely to be involved in illegal activity. This is not a Washington Post Story. I had my paralegal (who is an amazing cyber-sleuth) track it down. The story originated from a website called the National Report. This is a satirical website. It is a false story from a not so funny website.
